There is another story today and that's Breece hall getting a three year contract extension from the Jets $45.75 million. As Adam Schefter reported earlier today, Rich Samini is all over and he joins us here on Don Ham and Rosenberg. Thanks for a couple of minutes. What's the latest on this?
Rich Samini
Yeah, I mean three year deal. I was a little surprised. I thought this would go right down to the deadline in July, you know, the franchise tag deadline. But you know, the jets felt that this was their negotiations were in a good place when they paused in early March and they started focusing on draft preparation and Hall's agent Nicole Lynn was agreeable to that and they basically picked up talks last week and got it across the goal line here with a three year deal for what amounts to basically $15 million a year.
Peter Rosenberg
Before we get into the money and all the others, the commitment take us back to though, it was a place I don't even know if it was. It was probably last offseason. But Definitely early in the season where it did feel like a divorce was coming. Right. Breece didn't seem happy, didn't know about his future with the Jets. The jets were kind of lukewarm at first about him, although Aaron Glenn, I guess, consistently said that he wanted him on the team and expected him to stay on the team. Take us through that of, like, how we've gotten to this point after what felt like they were heading for a divorce, right?
Rich Samini
Yeah. I mean, basically a year, Alan. It started with the 25 draft where the rumors were starting. I had heard that there was a chance they could trade him during that draft last year. And then as Breece hall noted. I mean, basically, Breece hall spent an entire year answering draft rumor questions. And. And it came pretty intense at the deadline on November 4, the day they traded Sauce Gardner and Quinn and Williams. There was a lot of rumblings that, you know, Breece was in that mix as well and that he could be traded. I know there was a report that said Kansas City had offered a three. I don't think that report was accurate, but I do think there were some teams interested. I think the jets would have had to have been blown away by an offer. I think they decided as soon as they kept him on November 4th. I think they decided that we want this guy to be part of our future. He ends up having a pretty solid year. He rushed for over 1000 for the first time in his career. And you're right, Alan, they've been consistently saying publicly that they want to keep this guy. You know, I recall some quotes from Aaron Glenn saying, I'm a Breeze hall fan. Yeah, I want to keep him. Yada, yada, yada. And so, and you're right, Breece has expressed some mixed feelings along the way. I think the losing has really frustrated him at times. You know, he's been very cryptic in some social media posts. Last year, it almost sounded like he wanted out and wishes he had been traded along with his two teammates. But now here he is. Based on his social media post, he seems pretty thrilled. He said he got emotional, that he cried for the first time since tearing his acl. So, I mean, he's a happy camper. And I guess 29 million guaranteed will do that for a person.
Don LaGreca
And I do remember there were times, Rich, you probably could specifically mention the game because you're at all of them and you see it that I thought he played hard for somebody that was on a losing team, somebody that didn't know his future. I felt there were a few games Especially down the stretch where I really thought he brought it. And that had to impress the jets brass when they saw that.
Rich Samini
Well, he played the whole year last year and you know, he had a horrible injury his first year. I mean his rookie year was going to be off the charts when he had that ACL in Denver and yeah, I mean he had a good year last year. I mean I. He didn't feel it was his best year though. He felt it, you know, in the 23 season when he had 76 catches. He felt that was his best all around year. Last year he went past a thousand, which is not what it used to be, you know, in the 17 game schedule. I thought he was solid last year. I don't think it was a great year. I think he was very solid and I think he wants to get back to being that dual threat that he was a couple of years ago. And I'm very, very interested to see if Frank Reich and Geno Smith can figure out ways just to get him the ball more. Because remember last summer that's all they were talking about here, how they were going to split him out as a receiver and he was going to do this and that and it never happened. And I think a lot of that was. Justin Fields was just essentially clueless back there and you know, the. Tanner Angstrand was a rookie coordinator who was in over his head.
Judge Legreca
Rich, how big is this from. From what you know of this locker room, just as a locker room guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Good question.
Judge Legreca
To give them sort of that leadership, to have a loved guy and now know that he's going to be there for a while. How big is that you think for this group trying to grow over the next couple years?
Rich Samini
Well, it's important because all of their key young players are under contract for at least through the 28th season. I mean I'm talking Breece Hall, Garrett Wilson, the two tackles, Membu and Fashano and now you got two first round skill players in Sadiq and Omar Cooper Jr. You know who are. Cooper hasn't signed yet. It's just a formality obviously. And so all of those key guys are under contract. The jets have nine players on offense, either first or second round picks who are all going to be under the age of 28 on opening day. So they, they have the makings of a really strong offensive unit. Of course there's the one, the one like elephant in the room is that they still don't have the long term answer at quarterback. And that's going to be the problem that you know, has vexed. It's a problem that has vexed this franchise for decades. And until they solve that, is probably going to prevent them from becoming a championship level.
Peter Rosenberg
On that. On that point. Exactly on that point. Right. When you have. It does seem like, at least on paper, and we're so good at this, and you know this better than anybody, the off season is. The optimism is effervescing because you look at it on paper and you just say, like, you know, there's a lot of talent on the offensive side of the football and something that has been an issue of late. I mean, in. During the 15 years of not making the playoffs, but not last year. They might have an offensive line, a good one. Can Geno Smith, even if he finds something close to what he was in Seattle, I mean, can he really help this team?
Judge Legreca
Could.
Peter Rosenberg
Could this team actually win or at least be a. A competitive team because of that talent? And you have a veteran quarterback who not too long ago was throwing 4,000 yards in a season.
Rich Samini
Yeah, well, I mean, I can guarantee this, it'll be better quarterback play than last year. No, I'm not exactly going out on a limb there.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a hot take, Rich.
Caller Dave
That's a hot take.
Rich Samini
Right? I mean, that was historically bad quarterbacking we saw last year, and it just limited them in so many different ways. And we saw, I mean, minus 7 yards net passing in one game. Right. I mean, that's just. I still can't do my head around that. But, yes, Geno Smith will raise them a notch or two from that for sure. Now, I don't know if he can get back to the Seattle thing. I mean, last year was dysfunctional in Las Vegas. There was a lot going on. I talked to Pete Carroll after the season, and he blamed himself. I think without saying it, he was blaming his offensive coordinator, Chip Kelly, whom he fired during the year. He said they didn't do a good enough job with the offensive line. So basically, he was giving Gino all the alibis for a bad year. So we'll find out, you know, was it all Las Vegas or was some of it, you know, the slipping of a quarterback? And Geno Smith. So that. That's going to be fascinating to see.
Don LaGreca
Well, Rich, enjoy your summer. And it won't be that long before the preseason starts. And we're at it again, man. Thanks so much.
Rich Samini
All right, guys, Just talking to.
Don LaGreca

It didn't come to me while I was talking to him, guys, but the one specific game, and I looked it up while we were doing that interview, and I remember saying it at the time that impressed me about Breece hall was that game in Baltimore. Jets lost that game 23 to 10, but they were trying to fight back in the game. And if you remember, I don't know if it was a reception because he had a. He had a lot of receiving yards in that game, actually 75 to the the 44 on the ground, got near the goal line and he was given a second, third, fourth effort to try to get into the end zone, fumbled the football and the Ravens recovered and basically iced the game. And then they showed hall on the sidelines. He had his towel over his head. He was like, devastated. And I remember commenting that Monday, the next day about, you know, the jets are out of it, hall doesn't know if he's back, and yet he's busting his ass trying to score a touchdown in a meaningless game. Like, that impressed me. That was the moment that kind of impressed me, where maybe it impressed the jets, too, to say, you know, here's a guy that really could have one foot out the door and yet he still wants to be here and still working hard. Then I think this is an excellent move by Muji and the Jets.
Peter Rosenberg
It really does. Also, it shows you kind of a turn, and I hate to use that word because that's literally what Aaron Glenn kept referring to when this thing turns. And I feel like he was. He's like a key piece in that because, look, Sauce said it, he didn't want to go, but they traded him because of what they got for him. I don't think Quinn and Williams is crying that he's not in New York anymore playing for the jets. But, like, there's. There's been this sense of like that place was a sinking ship and there were guys that couldn't wait to get out of there. And Breece, for a moment at that trade deadline Sounded like a guy that felt like, can I go, too? I wish I could go with them.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
But he. He. Now you could see it again. Money also changes everything. But I think what you're referencing also is a great example of him kind of saying, okay, no, this is where I want to be and wanting to be here. And Garrett Wilson, for everything you want to say about him, he's never wavered. And knowing him like I know him, he's also incredibly defiant about anything that people say about the Jets. He takes it personal because he knows. He knows the history, understands it. And there's something about that that tells me the question Peter asked, I thought was a really good question because it can sort of start to create something in the locker room when guys want to be there and want to stay and be part of it, especially the ones that have been through the mud and the crap. So this is a very interesting turn of events when you consider a year ago where he was mentally and where it seemed like this was headed for him to now be paid to be a centerpiece of their offense going forward.
Don LaGreca
Sure. I also.
Judge Legreca
I just got the impression, guys, this whole time, it's like we've become so accustomed to seeing the posturing and the beginning of the end with a player, and you can just really get the sense, like, oh, they're saying they want to go. They really want money. We saw it with Dexter Lawrence. We know where this thing is going.
Don LaGreca
It's over.
Judge Legreca
Breece Hallman, I. He's always given. No, I want to be here. Like, I really would like to be here. And I love that this got done. And just. You're a team that's trying to figure it out. Do yourself a favor. And the Giants deserve the credit for this, too, for moving on from the Dexter thing. Remove distractions. Like, let's. Let's. Let's get into a full off season, Don, and be ready to start building something. Not thinking about a contract.
Don LaGreca
You know, it's an outstanding point.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's talk about the money. Is it a good deal? Like, at the. In the end, is it a good deal? 3 is 47, 45, 29 of it is in guarantees. The average. So the average is 15.25, which is third. Saquon and Christian McCaffrey are the two higher paid. Now. You could say, well, Breeze hall can say all he wants, But Saquon and McCaffrey are who you're trying to become, right?
Don LaGreca
Yeah, sure.
Peter Rosenberg
But he could because he's got the same skill set. Both guys can catch it out of the backfield as well as run it. And he has that same ability as well. Third is, I mean, that's for running backs, as we know in this league and not everybody wants to put a premium on it. Is that right about where you think he should be?
Don LaGreca
Yeah, I think so. But you've got so much room under the cap. Why would you worry about, you know, setting the market like that? That's what always bothered me about Shane and Dable's attitude towards Barkley. Well, we don't want to reset the market. What do you care? You know, what responsibility do you have around the league? Just worry about yourself.
Caller Dave
Right.
Don LaGreca
Like, why should the jets worry about resetting the running back market when they have a tremendous amount of money under the cap and if they value a player and want to pay him a little bit more than maybe the rest of the league thinks he's worth, so what? That's the benefit of being so far under the cap that you can do that. And to Peter's point, this is why you keep a breeze hall, and this is why you let Dexter Lawrence go. You know, Breece hall has every reason to want to get out. The jets never win. And we don't know what Muji and Glenn are going to be, you know, moving forward. We can like what we see, especially from Muji, but you don't know. And then you get the Giants, that also have been terrible and they finally get the coach and Lawrence still wants out. Breece doubling down tells me that's a player that I want to build around. That's a player I want to keep. And if Dexter Lawrence is doubling down, I get. Now even after we get one of the best available coaches out there tells me, you know what? You're not somebody I want to build around. You're not somebody that's a foundational player, despite what your stats may be. Because I think that room is important, man. I think building around players like that are what helps you become a winner.
Peter Rosenberg
I completely agree.
Don LaGreca
So I, I dig what they did.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. And again, it's the timing of it's right. But I'm not going to do it. I'm not going to start talking about, oh, it's turning and all that stuff. Because this is what we do. This is. This is when Lucy starts singing her song, holding the football, bringing it out to the field. I'm not doing it. It's the off season. I still want to say it. Darren Mujee, like, he has really proven to be a general manager that is in control, knows what he's doing, but I feel like is in charge. I. I feel like that's what the way he talks with. He has a voice of authority, and that is something that stands out to me. So this all bodes well and it all looks good. But I still got to get to the first couple of weeks of the season before I'm going to start saying, hey, things have really turned around.
Don LaGreca
I get it. But don't listen. You look at the overall team and the history. Yeah. Of course it's going to take a lot of. For you to believe that they've really turned it around. But if you want to be specific to the gm, he's giving you more than enough reasons to believe that he's the right guy. Will it lead to a championship? You know, we don't know. We don't know if Glenn's a good enough coach. We don't know how the whole landscape is going to look. But maybe for the first time since Parcells was. Was here that you feel like you've got a guy in the room that really understands how to build a team. Now, there's a lot of other things that have to go right for it to show up on the scoreboard.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah.
Don LaGreca
But I think Muji has done enough for you to believe. Hey, I think we got ourselves a good executive here. I think this guy knows what he's doing.
Peter Rosenberg
I almost think it puts more pressure on Glenn. Now prove to me that you're the coach. You're running the defense. He talked about his superpowers. Okay. Show me.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, this is all stuff that's got to show again. Nobody's saying you got to win 10 games and all that stuff. It's got to be a steady climb back out of the. Out of hell. But it's got to start looking like. Okay. Because the front office stuff looks right. Second straight off season where you just kind of look. The Fields thing was a. Was a bit of a risk and a gamble. Let's see. We can do it. And it worked out poorly.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But everything else he, like Muji has done, he's done a really good job. And what he's got to keep his fat hands off everything but the head coach. He's got to be the one. Now that. That I want to see week one. Is your team ready to play week one? You ready to play? Like, that's what I need to know. And I can't. You can't buy in until you start seeing that.
Don LaGreca
Javier and Queen John ESPN New York what's up, Javi?
Caller Javi
What's going on, boys? Great show. I think what Moji did was like really smart. Like I'm, I think there's a great start to the weekend and I think I'm just waiting for a late night video from Russ. Maybe like a Yo, Florham park. You know, maybe he makes this big announcement. What do you think? Hey, yo, Woody. Hey, yo, Woody. But listen, with the Knicks. Sorry guys, I'm having too much fun with the Knicks. You know, I, I think they have a great shot at, at doing it this weekend. I don't want to call. The thing is, historically, the Knicks haven't swept, you know, four games in a row, seven game series since 1999. Right? So I just think it's improbable. So like I'm, I'm of the take one of two this weekend. But you know, they, they could, they could very well take both. And I think, I don't think you play OG I think, you know, you don't play that game like you, you don't risk anything. I think even without OG they could do it this weekend.
Rich Samini
So just, just stay the course.
Don LaGreca
That would be the perfect storm, right, to win without OG have him rested because then maybe you don't even play him on Sunday if you're up three games to none. And now that, that, that would be the perfect storm if you're able to do it.
Rich Samini
Possible.
Caller Javi
It's possible. Philly folds just because the arena is just so full of Knicks fans. Like it's. And also Maxi is also kind of prone to injuries and he doesn't normally play.
Peter Rosenberg
Jammed his finger on his shooting. He jammed his finger on his shooting and he said so he's been dealing with that. His shooting has not been great, but again, he's also a guy that hit two clutch buckets against Boston to kill them in game seven. So, yeah, you know, like you, you don't ever take it for granted, which is why, like I just keep harping on tonight needs to be a pedal to the metal, you know, high gear right from the gate. Just understanding and having an urgency up 2 0, if that makes any sense. Right, Javi? Like that's, that's what I'm looking for from this team is just to know, like, I don't want to have to deal with any pressure on Sunday in an early game. A 3:30 game. No, like this is the game. You say all out tonight, empty it and that's. Then you're in full control. Tonight's the bigger game.

I'm a fraud with a capital F.

Is your friend a fraud?
Judge Legreca
I have been a complete and utter fraud.
Don Hahn
Are you a fraud?

What is fraud?
Don Hahn
Let's ask Dom McGregor. Screw.
Don LaGreca
Go scratch yourself.
Don Hahn
Brought to you by Dagostino Law.
Judge Legreca
Oh yeah, you know the vibes folks. Fraud alert Friday. Brought to you by our dearest of friends at Dagono Law, Dagostino. Judge legreck, are you ready?
Don LaGreca
Oh, you kidding me? I am so ready because I was off last Friday, so it's been a while.
Judge Legreca
Yeah, you were. You shot out of a cannon after a week of built up fraudulent. To the honorable Judge legreca, I'd like to preface my question by letting you know I'm a classic New York die hard fan of the Yankees, Rangers and Knicks.
Don LaGreca
Okay, good. No. Football. Interesting.
Judge Legreca
Where this takes a little twist is regarding football. Okay. My father was a fair weather fan of the Giants and did not by any means pass down the tradition to myself and my brothers. So much so that the first game I remember watching was the 94 NFC championship between the Niners and Cowboys. My best friend, who was a Cowboys fan, came over that Sunday afternoon and put on the TV and we both sat down to watch the game and I was hooked up. Going forward from that fateful day, I have been a die hard Cowboys fan without any wavering. Whether it was Quincy Carter, grab that strange pull. Drew Henson, another one. Or suffering or suffering during the Dave Campo days. Wow. From Romo's botched snap which I contended until this day, he still ran for the first down to Des's clear catch. I have faithfully remained a diehard Cowboys fan and have given over this fandom to my children who now suffer miserably by the whims and irrational decisions Jerry makes on any given day. So as I digress, Hon. Judge Legreca, my question is twofold. First, my brother, who grew up as an even more suffering jets fan, contends I'm a bandwagon Cowboy fan. However, I always retort, they are the first team I saw play for football. Am I a bandwagon fan or a true die hard Cowboys fan without any tarnish on that shield of fandom? And secondly, a little more nuanced question. My friend's father was clearly a bandwagon Cowboys fan due to all the success of the 70s. Does his fake fandom, which was passed down to his son and then subsequently to me, have any ill effects towards my fandom? Or am I a pure blooded Cowboys fan? Nate, from the Five towns. I know, Don. You get frustrated by lengthy email, but that was some good detail.
Don LaGreca
No, there was a lot of detail that was very. That was needed.
Peter Rosenberg
A lot of evidence.
Don LaGreca
I will say no fraud. D'. Agostino. I think his journey to being a Cowboy fan is similar to most Cowboy fans either. The jets and Giants were bad and so they wanted to watch good football. But that wasn't even it for him. It was just that his dad was a wishy washy Giants fan. He was the bandwagon or jumping on when the Giants are good, ignoring them when they were bad. So you had no guidance, football wise. And you're watching a great championship game. I always get confused because they met a couple of times, the Niners and the Cowboys. Was that the mud bowl game? Trying to remember. But either way, it was a great game. Two great teams. You chose the Cowboys and 32 years later, you stuck with them. You've handed it down to your kids. There's no fraudulence there. Everybody gets introduced in some way, shape or form. He had no allegiance before. He's never wavered since. No fraud.
Judge Legreca
Wow. An authoritative.
Peter Rosenberg
No problem.
Don LaGreca
His dad's the bad guy. But, you know, what are you gonna do?
Peter Rosenberg
Why is this dad a bad guy?
Don LaGreca
Well, just not choosing a football team to me is a sign of weakness. That's just me. All right, listen, I got no leg to stand.
Peter Rosenberg
That's just sign of weakness.
Don LaGreca
It's just my instinct. I just think that you, you know, you should choose a football team. Yeah, it's almost. It's almost like. You know what?
Caller Dave
I'll go.
Don LaGreca
Here's. Here's the hot take of this segment.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don LaGreca
It's sports agnostic. Like, to not be a football fan is almost like being sports faithless. Football's got to be there.
Judge Legreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
You can't be a sports fan if football isn't one of the sports.
Don LaGreca
It's odd to be a sports fan and not love football. It's odd.
Peter Rosenberg
So it makes you agnostic.
Don LaGreca
To me, it's. It makes you sports agnostic.
Peter Rosenberg
So you don't have a. There is no God in your life if you don't like football. No.
Judge Legreca
That's atheist.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. He's not atheistic.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't really have anything.
Don LaGreca
I could be swayed. Let's have a conversation. I'm not sold. You know, that's how I look at it.
Judge Legreca
So.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. It's a very interesting day.
Don LaGreca
Hey, I understand I might be on an island by myself. Although I think Peter's kind of on my side.
Peter Rosenberg
With it.
Judge Legreca
I hear you, but you're on that island too. Yeah, I'm a pretty agnostic guy in real life, so, you know, I could be. I. I don't know anything. What the hell do I know?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think you're obnoxious at all.
Don LaGreca
Well, no, no, those are different.
Judge Legreca
Anyways, hey guys, let's follow up with another. This is such a great topic. Because the Cowboys are such a source of fraud. We have another Cowboys email.
Don LaGreca
Okay, let's go.
Peter Rosenberg
Nice.
Don LaGreca
Let's do it.
Judge Legreca
Born and raised New Yorker, die hard Yankee fan. You guys notice everybody's a diehard Yankee fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Die hard.
Don LaGreca
Well, because they're, they're. They're. They're. That's probably Yankee fans. The same reason they're Cowboy fans.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, you're Yankees fan because you have God in your life. That's how that works.
Judge Legreca
I was about to say. And, and. But the difference is, Don, at this point, being a Cowboys fan has actually required dying hard.
Don LaGreca
Listen, it's been. It's been 30 years. 30 years, Spence.
Judge Legreca
A long time. Die hard Yankees, Knicks, Rangers fan. Wow. Just like the other guy. Or similar. Growing up in the 90s, everyone's favorite football team was either the Cowboys or the Dolphins. Oh, okay. I chose the Cowboys after seeing them win the super bowl. Fast forward 30 years later. The team has had so many bad seasons, I lost interest to even watch. I ended up marrying into a Bills family. We had a baby boy last summer. He is on track to also be a Bills fan and has tons of Bills merch. Jerry Jones is a joke. And when he traded away Parsons, that was my final straw. Plus, I have zero desire to ever visit Texas. I know I'm a fraud, but I also think this was the right move.
Caller Javi
Well,
Don LaGreca
both could be true, as obviously he ruled himself he's a fraud. Yeah, he's the definition of a fraud. But you know, I can understand it. I mean, if you. If you don't mind owning the moniker of fraud. He probably did save himself some years on his life and some aggravation, right? Although the Bills haven't won anything either. And they might be moving in the wrong direction. Who would have thought maybe the Sabres would win a title before the Bills, but not fraud. But maybe he did do the right thing. But right now, the Sabres, they're good. They're playing.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no, I never thought of that. But wouldn't that be amazing? They hadn't made the playoffs like Josh Allen wasn't even in college the last time they made the playoffs. Am I right?
Judge Legreca
20.
Peter Rosenberg
What was it their last playoff appearance was? 2010? 2011.
Don LaGreca
11.
Peter Rosenberg
11. Okay, so he. Yeah. No, he wasn't in college yet.
Don LaGreca
No. So.
Peter Rosenberg
And you thought that Buffalo.
Rich Samini
Wow.
Don LaGreca
But can both things be right, guys? Where if he's cool being a fraud, he might. Maybe he did make the right decision, but it's. It's kind of a crime of passion.
Caller Dave
Right?
Judge Legreca
You. You get it?
Caller Dave
But it's right.
Peter Rosenberg
Like what Chris Rock said, it's like.
Don LaGreca
I'm not saying it's right, but I understand.
Caller Dave
That's right.
Judge Legreca
That's right. The honor will judge the director. I'm a die hard Rangers fan, okay, who doesn't follow basketball, all right?
Don LaGreca
I love them.
Judge Legreca
So obviously my allegiances would traditionally be with the Knicks. As much as the Rangers have struggled lately, it has brought me great comfort over the years knowing that Madison Square Garden has also been home to a perennial loser franchise in the Knicks. No matter how things have spiraled on the ice, at least our neighbors on the court have had to suffer an even more excruciating run of futility. My potential fraud question is this. As someone who isn't an NBA fan and has no rooting interest whatsoever, I found myself actively rooting against the Knicks playoff run for the pettiest of reasons. If the Rangers are years away from even contending for the Stanley cup, then any amount of Knicks success will only make our failures look worse by comparison. Does this make me a fraud New Yorker for against what should be my favorite NBA team? Or am I just being a faithful and loyal, albeit selfish Rangers fan? I throw myself upon the mercy of the court? Jeremy.
Don LaGreca
Well, you are being a selfish Ranger fan, but there's no fraud in there. Matter of fact, I love when Dagestino. I understand it. I get it. Like, it's the same reason. The whole fundamental part about being a fraud is like, you can't like the other New York teams because again, they're throwing shade at you. Like it makes the Rangers look bad at the Knicks when he doesn't have an NBA allegiance, he doesn't like the NBA, so he shouldn't feel any obligation to almost be fraudulent to all of a sudden start rooting for the Knicks if you don't like the sport.
Judge Legreca
But can we. Can we also say maybe not fraud, but bad guy, bad guy?
Don LaGreca
Well, the bad guy's on the table, sure, but he doesn't like the NBA. And so why would he want the Knicks to celebrate a championship when the Rangers haven't won since 94, if you remember, And I'm not saying it's right, but it happened. If you remember, Giuliani is at the podium as the Rangers are all sitting down in the canyon of heroes after the. They win the Stanley cup in 94. Right. And they're all sitting back there, leech Messier. They all have their sunglasses on. They just finished the parade. And now Mayor Giuliani is going to start the ceremony. And he said to the crowd, I hope next week we're doing this again for the Knicks. And the crowd booed because I do think there's a thing between NBA and NHL fans that hockey fans feel away about the NBA because it's, it's, it goes up against them. You don't really see a lot of die hard NBA and NHL fans. Allen's has to be an outlier. Be honest. Allen loving basketball and hockey, that usually doesn't happen.
Peter Rosenberg
You rarely see that crossover because again, either way, you rarely see.
Judge Legreca
It's hard to.
Don LaGreca
They're in the same season. Like football and baseball, there's, there's overlap, but they're two separate seasons. NBA and the NHL overlap way too much to really be a die hard for both. So I can understand, as a Ranger fan, you're sitting there going, we haven't won since 94.
Judge Legreca
We're struggling.
Don LaGreca
I don't want the other team in our building to get a celebration, especially if you're not a fan. I love it. No Fraud.
Peter Rosenberg
It's so bizarre.
Don LaGreca
It makes sense.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, it's, it's just a bizarre way to think. First of all, there usually is usually synergy and symmetry, like between the two tenants in the same building in different sports. A lot of times you get that kind of support. Like you, you know, Hank goes to a lot of Nick games, by the way. Lundquist. But you, you, you, you. That back then in 94, when they were both simultaneously on a run, everybody was caught up in it and watching both. And Anthony Mason was. And it wasn't just Mason. He actually brought a couple other teammates with him to some games and then the Rangers would do the same thing. They'd come to Nick games and it was like a cool thing to see the, the support. And it almost kind of felt like community type of thing where it's like both our teams are good and you get into it. Right?
Judge Legreca
Yeah, but, but, but I don't understand
Peter Rosenberg
rooting against it for your own selfish reasons of. Because I don't want to. Like, it'll make me feel like we suck more. That's weird, man.
Don LaGreca
Like, that's Weird, but it does come from a place of jealousy, you know? And also, I can understand it more from a Ranger perspective than a Nick perspective, because, let's face it, the Knicks are way more popular, but it's not
Peter Rosenberg
like the Islanders winning the Cup. Like, that's different because it's another team.
Don LaGreca
They have nothing to do with you. They. But they do, in the sense that it's in your backyard. It would almost be like somebody having a barbecue in your backyard that it's
Judge Legreca
not you, it's Alan. You know what it is here. But here's the thing. It's. It's the.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's your brother having a barbecue and you in your house, and you can't go.
Judge Legreca
You. Wait, no, no. You're mad that your brother has more friends than you, so you wish that everyone canceled on him and he'd stay home and cry. Like, it's. It's the opposite of me. I. I am now a. Basically a fraud because I root for the Knicks, because I want to see
Don LaGreca
the people around me be happy. This is.
Judge Legreca
I just want people to be miserable.
Don LaGreca
Just text the group or what he said. He goes, I've never once cared about the Knicks failure to make me feel better about the Rangers. But. But here's the thing. I don't think Anthony hates basketball. I think he may not be as big a Knick fan as he is Yankees and Rangers.
Peter Rosenberg
No, his dad's texting about the Knicks now.
Don LaGreca
How about that? But. But if you are a person that is not a fan of the NBA, then I. I kind of get it. But then you don't care.
Peter Rosenberg
Then you're apathetic.
Don LaGreca
No, but, but, but again, it's happening in your home building. It is a little.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know.
Don LaGreca
I understand.
Peter Rosenberg
I get it. Look, it's. I always say it's your way of fan. That's how you fan. You're not wrong. It's how you feel. I could just tell you it's a little weird. But can I go back, though, to the Giuliani thing? Because if I remember right, he wanted to wait for the Knicks to finish. Remember, the Knicks played Game 5 that day? Because that's the. That's the parade.
Don LaGreca
The whole thing.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the OJ Day. Yeah. So he wanted to. He wanted to hold off the parade and have a double parade. And, like, Ranger fans were pissed because they're like, that. The series.
Don LaGreca
That would. That would be dumb.
Peter Rosenberg
And so I think that's what that was about when he said, like, come back and do it again. As people was like, really, dude? Like, like, it was. They already knew. He sounded like he cared more about the Knicks winning it than the Rangers winning it. And so people already were annoyed with him about that.
Judge Legreca
Well, also.
Peter Rosenberg
But at least they got a parade. The Knicks never had a parade.
Judge Legreca
Yeah, but the one thing I Don and Anthony, neither of them will fight is that hockey fans being the fourth sport, people that they are there and very niche, they. They can be miserable and just also be annoyed whenever anyone does anything related to their sport because it's never the right.
Don LaGreca
I think that's part of it. I think yell at you.
Judge Legreca
They'd rather call up and yell at you for not talking about it enough than just talk about.
Peter Rosenberg
I have this problem. Like, as a. As a hockey fan myself, I've always said this, like, like, hot. Like, basketball is my game. Right. But hockey's my first love. And anytime, like, it would be, we'd have arguments about sports and stuff like that. I would take it personal if someone who talked baseball, which is another one of my loves growing up, but if somebody talked about baseball in an authoritative way over hockey, I'd laugh at them. Like, it would bother me because I'm like, what are you talking about? Like, you know, when you're football either, like, it would just sort of be that. That feeling that you're a local sport, just like hockey is. So I understand that feeling when it comes to defending your sport. That does seem like it's always kicking.
Judge Legreca
Going to the point of rooting against the other tenants in the building is crazy to me. Let's put a line one. I have a follow up here. There's a call on the line. We have Dave in Connecticut. What's up, buddy?
Caller Dave
Hey, guys.
Caller Vinny
Yes.
Caller Dave
My son is Jimmy from Connecticut, the guy who called in on front alert about a month or so ago, and you guys invited me to call in and. And tell the tale, or at least tell you that I. That I did pull off, I think, the greatest Trojan horse of all time. And I live to tell the tale. I did buy the eagle hat on the way in after I was, uh, basically, uh, you know, pelted with rocks and garbage. Mostly garbage. But. But yeah, I. I pulled it off. And I had actually had a segue into a story with Jimmy. We go to the Jersey Shore every year. We go to Seattle City. We've been going there my entire life. I take the kids there every year. And in 2017, Jimmy's playing college football. He's a junior. He's going into his Junior year. And our hot dog guy that we've had since the early 90s or the mid-90s tells us, he goes, hey, there's a Eagles player on the, on the beach. It's Jason Kelsey. And you know, Jimmy, you know, you play football. Maybe you want to go see him. And so Jimmy runs up. I basically hang back because I don't want to, you know, you know, you know, get in the middle of his thing. And Jimmy goes up. Jason was. Again, everybody remember this is before the Eagles won the Super Bowl. So Jason's just a guy who's a pretty good player in the NFL. I think maybe he had been an all pro by then, you know, certainly doesn't have the fame he does now. Meets Jimmy, lovely guy. And I got to say this, and I want to. This is why I wanted to call in we go the. We go to the Seattle city every year. I'm sure Don knows from Ocean City. The Eagle fans are lovely when we're down at the shore with them. We, we, you know, it's, it's fun scratch talk, but it's, it's all in. In good fun. But Jimmy met Jason. Couldn't have been nicer. Jimmy went on, had a great year and, you know, anyway, but, but we love the show. I listen every day. You know, you guys are great. Thank you so much. More stories, but I don't want to take.
Judge Legreca
I love it, Dave.
Don LaGreca
And then thanks for continuing that story about, you know, having to wear the Eagle stuff so you just don't get destroyed. But listen, I think JC Kelsey is a really nice guy. I'm good, but I still think he's a really nice guy.
Peter Rosenberg
You're all set.
Don LaGreca
Can both be true.
Peter Rosenberg
You've had your fill.
Don LaGreca
Well, I just. I don't get it. I don't get why he's got to be on everything. But he said that. That doesn't mean he's not a nice guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, because it's opportunity.
Caller Dave
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That's why he's on everything.
Judge Legreca
I love when Don said that. I love when Don pulls us. Seems like a great guy, but I'm good.
Caller Dave
It's the best.
Judge Legreca
All right, that'll do it.
Don LaGreca
All right.
Judge Legreca

Want to let you know that today's Mets Diamondbacks game can be heard on 1050 starting at 9 o'.
Caller Javi
Clock.
Don LaGreca
Game 3 of the Knicks and Sixers can be heard on 880 ESPN New York at 6pm and all games can be streamed on the ESPN New York app. And again thanks to the Mets for making the switch. Whenever the Knicks and Mets are pretty playing at the same time. The Mets will be on 1050 and the Knicks will be on 880. Let's go to Edgar in White Plains. You're on ESPN New York. Hello Edgar hello.
Caller Vinny
I love your show man.
Don LaGreca
Thank you.
Caller Vinny
Love the show, love the station. Forever going back to like Lupica and and Mike and Mike and love the show. I've been, I was at the 20 year anniversary. I've been trying to get on to Fraud Friday but I have so many meetings I try to clear my Fridays and I finally got through so I want to, I want to bring this up to to you Doc. So I started following hockey because of you.
Caller Dave
I ended up loving you listening to
Caller Vinny
you all the time. I started listening to the games and I started becoming a Ranger fan. So now that you switched over to the Devils I found myself kind of. Let me listen in. What's happening with the Devils here now? I think my fandom is sort of switching, so I don't know if I'm a hockey fan or just a Don fan. And does that make me a fraud? I have friends that say yes.
Don LaGreca
Well, here. Here is. This is. Oh, this is the first ever dual fraud.
Caller Dave
It.
Don LaGreca
Depending. Well, it's a dual answer. I should say. Not dual fraud. If you are a hockey fan, Edgar, you're a fraud, and there's no hiding from that. But if you're a Don Lagreca fan, you're not a fraud, d', Agostino. Because as a Don Lagra fan, you're doing the right thing. You follow me to where?
Rich Samini
Wherever I go.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, this is. Peter, this is.
Don LaGreca
No. It's accurate. This is the only answer.
Rich Samini
Peter.
Don LaGreca
No, honest. Peter, don't.
Peter Rosenberg
Stay quiet.
Don LaGreca
Peter, look at me.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don LaGreca
That's the answer. Hockey fan. He's a fraud. He's jumping from team to team. That's a bad. That's a.
Judge Legreca
That's a clear fraud.
Don LaGreca
But if he's a Don McGregor fan, what else are you supposed to do?
Peter Rosenberg
I see what you're doing.
Caller Vinny
It was overnight.
Judge Legreca
Don is right. Don is right. He is a fraud hockey fan, but a legit Don McGregor fan, that's fine.
Peter Rosenberg
But you can't say no. Fraud.
Don LaGreca
It's fraud. Fraud. No, it's. It's.
Caller Dave
No, it's.
Judge Legreca
It's no fraud.
Don LaGreca
If he's a Don fan, it would be fraudulent if he gave. If he stuck with the Rangers after I left. If he's a Don fan, then that's all first.
Judge Legreca
If he's doing the right thing as a Don fan, now, is he still a fraud? He hit the siren. He's still a fraud.
Don LaGreca
Because. But if he's. But it doesn't sound like he's really a hockey fan. Listen, I talk really good hockey. I give good hockey. I give tremendous hockey.
Judge Legreca
Not as.
Peter Rosenberg
And I just like, yeah, man.
Don LaGreca
But no, I give way better hockey than I do lineup. But if he's a hockey fan and you don't get won over by somebody else being a fan like this late in life. If he's a hockey fan, he's a fraud. If he's a Don fan, he's anything but. That's the only answer. All right, what about Brian? He's in New Jersey. You're on espn New York.
Caller Dave
Hello.
Judge Legreca
Hello,
Don LaGreca
Bryant.
Judge Legreca
Hello.
Caller Dave
How y' all doing today?
Don LaGreca
Good.
Caller Dave
All right, so my question is, all right, I'm a Die hard, football fan, Gold Birds, Eagles all day.
Caller Javi
But now when it comes to the
Caller Dave
other sports, I wear different hats. So I like, I'm a Yankee fan, devil fan.
Don LaGreca
And so when it comes to, like,
Caller Dave
style and stuff, you know, I wear different baseball hats, different hockey hats. Am I a fraud to those fans?
Don LaGreca
I need to know what hats. All right, so you're a devil fan. What other hockey hats do you have?
Caller Dave
But I have them currently. But I've worn. I've worn an Islanders hat.
Peter Rosenberg
You can do that.
Don LaGreca
They were in the same division. Bro. Bro. Why did it come out that way?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know why. Like that. But you were. It was pain to. You were in pain.
Don LaGreca
No, because we've had. We've had the merchandise conversation before. Now. If he had said, I've wore a Shark's hat or a king's hat or, you know, then I'd say, you know, I. I think I'll allow it. But the first one, he said Islanders, same division. Come on. You can't wear apparel of a team in your division or a team that's a known rival. Example, a Giant fan cannot wear in Eagles, Cowboys, or commander's hat.
Caller Dave
Right.
Don LaGreca
But also cannot wear Niners 49ers hat.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Don LaGreca
That would be bad form. But if you're telling me, oh, I've always. I could wear a Dolphin, then that's. I can. I can allow that.
Peter Rosenberg
You can certainly wear a Patriots hat. You can wear it proudly.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, absolutely.
Peter Rosenberg
Kidding me.
Don LaGreca
It beat him twice in the Super Bowl. It would be only right.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
To do that.
Peter Rosenberg
You're celebrating it in some cases. But.
Caller Dave
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
No, and the fact that he had to do the, you know, Eagles go Birds. Like the. Like that.
Rich Samini
Yeah.
Judge Legreca
That's how, you know,
Don LaGreca
it wouldn't irritate me if he was from Camden, then that's Eagle territory. But if he's from North Jersey, how'd
Peter Rosenberg
he go that way? Anyways, we don't need to go down that rabbit hole anyway.
Judge Legreca
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
We don't need to do it.
Don Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
