Alan Hahn
Oh, good call.
Peter Rosenberg
Looking for the white puff of smoke, maybe when he decides where he's going to go. But that momentarily. But the Knicks conversation has been a strong one. Don asked a question. That's a good one. About so many of these fans. Like there were people sharpening swords when they saw the bridges. Quotes about minutes and all that. Stu. And the first taste of controversy for this next season. Just some people can't wait to get rid of Tom Thibodeau. It doesn't make sense. He's been your best coach in the last 25 years. But he wants to know why. So let's ask you why. Let's begin. Let's see with Mike in Brick, you're up next, Mike.
Alan Hahn
What's up, Michael? Hey, Mikey.
Peter Rosenberg
Making lines. It's line six. Oh, there we go.
Alan Hahn
Anyway, Yeah, I just wanted to get to. It was an interesting part of the conversation. We got just one middle.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, let's go to Nick and North Bergen on line seven. Nick.
Alan Hahn
Hey, what's going on, fellas? What up?
Peter Rosenberg
What's happening? Hey, good talking to you guys.
Alan Hahn
I was laughing. You guys had me laughing with the music conversation.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I was just.
Alan Hahn
When I spoke to the person who answered the phone. You know, I feel like Knicks fans are very similar to, like, Dallas Cowboys fans and jets fans. I feel like they're real delusional sometimes. Like, they go into this crazy, like, oh, we were one player away from winning the championship. I'm like, just stop it. They just need to cut it out. Like, I. The. The Knicks have never been good for as long as I've been alive, and I feel like a lot of it has to do with the ownership.
Peter Rosenberg
How long have you been. Hang on, hang on, hang on. Before you do all that garbage, how long you been alive? How long you been alive?
Alan Hahn
I've been alive for 46 years.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay? They've never been good. 46 years. Never been good.
Alan Hahn
They've had good. They've had good moments like when Ewing was there.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, that's 15 years. But that's 15 years.
Alan Hahn
And then Carmelo Anthony's year, three year.
Peter Rosenberg
They never won again. Like, I don't understand this. When you say never won. If you're saying championship, then, okay, you're right. But never won. Like, this, this. This. When people say the Knicks were never good, that doesn't make sense. They've been good.
Alan Hahn
Years.
Peter Rosenberg
Were good years. What they've done here with Tibbs and Brunson, this has been a run. They've been one of the best teams in the league. And this year, by the way, they're the. They're the fifth best team in the who. Like. Like what?
Alan Hahn
What are you saying?
Peter Rosenberg
That they're never good? Are their fans delusional? Every fan base is delusional. Or they have a pocket of people who are delusional that I can't argue with you. But please don't call this show and give me the whole the Knicks have never been good thing. Have they had bad years? They did, but they've gotten past it recently, and it's been really nice.
Alan Hahn
I think we've become. There's a. There's a generation of fans that they don't want to be bothered. They don't want to be troubled with their time in sports unless their team's gonna win a championship.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. Talk about snobby.
Alan Hahn
When they say they haven't won anything. He's right. If you're gonna hold it to the standard of winning an NBA title, yes. The Knicks have not won since 1990.
Peter Rosenberg
The Mets have won. Mets have won nothing then in the last 40 years.
Alan Hahn
And you want Tibbs to be fired because Tibbs looks like he's not the coach to lead you to a championship. Well, I think Tibbs job when he first got it, correct me if I'm wrong, Alan, just get this team on the right path.
Peter Rosenberg
Bring back, get them in the playoffs.
Alan Hahn
Get them to be a consistently good team. Maybe, maybe he won't be the guy that can lead them to the promised land. I think he can, but maybe he's not. But he doesn't get any credit for at least putting them back on the map. Having them in the top five of the NBA. Having them becoming a team that you can watch and be proud of, that's got a chance to win every single night. Just unfortunately might not be as good to win a championship, but still a very good team. So we're just going to throw it. But this is the tanking crowd. Alan and Peter, this is the. Wake me when we win a champion and we cannot appreciate a good basketball team because they're not going to win. So fire the coach, get a new owner, blow it up and try again until we can finally win a championship. Well, listen, there are people. I'm not referring to the caller just now and maybe his ilk. There are some basketball people. And Alan, I know that you see this as well, who really know the game, who do not believe in Tibbs as a championship head coach. That is a separate conversation that some people feel he's just not the guy for it. For X, Y and Z reasons. That's whatever. You cannot say that what he's done so far with this team is not enough to give him a chance to get there. He. They're 42 and 23 guys. This is not the most loaded team in the NBA. They've got a few talented, talented players. This is a very well coached, good basketball team. Peter, you know basketball. They're not good enough to win a championship. Not quite. Not right. I think they're very close. They're very close. But Alan's been saying it this. Right, right at this particular moment. But that doesn't mean that, you know, fast forward to next year, a couple of moves here or there. Growth of some players. Let me, let me throw this at you though. In a year like this where you have weird teams at the Top of the heap in the NBA if they were to get fully healthy at the right time. Is there a world in which they make the playoffs and the Celtics end up getting bounced? They play against Cleveland, who, who they've always been good against, historically, who falters isn't as good as they were during the regular season. Is it a year where they could find their way to the Finals? I think it is.
Peter Rosenberg
I would tell you I'm not willing.
Alan Hahn
To rule that out. Alan.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I would tell you the reason why. I keep discussing the resilience of this, this team and how they've had games that should have, for most teams would have just ended in losses. It's almost like they refuse to lose games. There's certain games that, you know, like, okay, they'll let go of the rope here, and they don't. And somehow, some way, they just come up with a win where it's a big shot, a big moment, whatever it is. And that's like, to me, I look at it and I just say they're made up of something that tells me that you're, you know, in a playoffs, they're not going to be easy to beat because of just this resiliency. That's, that's something that they're made of a collective. So could things work out where, again, take advantage of injuries, whatever it is? Yeah, they're made up of a team that could win a championship. I just don't think there's enough compared to the better teams in the league. But the thing is, is only maybe four better teams than them in the league, but they're just not at that level yet. And as you said, it doesn't mean you go into an off season. And, you know, you tinker here, you tinker there, and another player just suddenly has an off season that he comes back and now you're like, wow, this guy really took a step, and now you're back in the game. But this, this notion that they never, never won, that, that stuff, like, I can't tolerate that kind of talk.
Alan Hahn
What, what the conversation is, is the definition of win. And, and to. And there's a bunch of fans that winning, it's all about just the chip. Like, that's how Yankee fans feel. When you say win, that means win the whole thing. Yes, but some may look at it and say, do I have a winning team? Do I have a team to be proud of? Do I have a team that's competing for a championship? And you just know that might be a little a year too early. Are they moving in the right direction? That's all I ever ask my teams to be. Are you trending in the right direction? Now, if we fast forward three years from now and the conversation's exactly the same with the Knicks, then you know what? Maybe it's time to let Tibs go, and maybe it's time to. To reconvene and. And blow it up or. Or move in a different direction. But this is year one of this roster, and let's see where this goes.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's take Lewis in the car in line four. Louis.
Alan Hahn
Hey, what's going on, fellas? How y'all doing this afternoon?
Peter Rosenberg
Good.
Alan Hahn
Hey, Lewis. All right, so before I get to my head coach, New York fans hating their head coach on point. I. I wanted to call yesterday about the COVID song. Did y'all know that House is Not a Home?
Peter Rosenberg
Is that.
Alan Hahn
That's actually a cover? Luther Burns actually covered that song.
Peter Rosenberg
I did not know that. No.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's actually a Dion War. That's why I was wondering why I didn't even mention it. Like, he turned that song into his. His own song. That's actually a Dion Warwick song that he covered. Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Another good one to add to the playlist. Love it. Right?
Alan Hahn
So the. The point. I was, like I said, for some reason, because I'm a Giants fan and a Yankee fan. I'm not a Knicks fan. I'm a Bulls fan. But I had Tippetto as my coach, and everybody was saying the same thing. Oh, he burns his players out. He burns the player. No, no, there's no such thing. These guys are athletes. They condition themselves in practice so they prepare themselves to play those minutes. But for some reason, even when we had Tom conflict, he won us two Super Bowls, and the fans still turned on them. Like, I don't understand why we turn on our head coaches and we blame them for the performance of the players. That's the part I don't understand.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a great question. I, like, I always wonder, is it because the. The vast majority of people. And thank you, Louis, for the call. Do you guys think that happens in all sports? Because the vast majority of people don't like authority? Does that make sense? Am I thinking too deep into it? Like, there's a guy in charge and it's his way or the highway, and we want to hold him accountable despite the fact that the workers aren't really producing enough. But you always want to blame the boss, so he's the. Like, we don't like the authority figure, so we'd Rather turn on them. Does that make any sense? That's a society thing.
Alan Hahn
It might be. Or is it just, you know, it's just easier, you know, it's just easier to let the coach go than, than to, than to come to grips with the idea that the players that we root for aren't good enough. Because you could fire. There's been tons of examples where you fired a coach and all of a sudden everything comes together. But. But you're talking about making trades. You're talking about maybe blowing it up, going with a different roster. That's. That's a lot harder to do. So is it having a problem with authority or is it just that that's just an easier thing to do? Let's just blame the coach because that's easier to replace.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, easier is probably.
Alan Hahn
I just don't know who they'd want. Like, who would Nick fan. Usually this is because there's somebody out there looming that you say, that's the guy I want to be the head coach. But who, who, who would they replace him with? Who's out there that everybody's jonesing to have be their coach that's available? You don't wake up dreaming of McDonald's fries. Oh, there's. You'd be surprised at different names that I've seen come my way, but neither here nor there. The thing you could say, look, that caller was a Bulls fan. Have the Bulls looked since they fired him? Have they done irrelevant they have not been good. Yeah, they went. They lost their standard. They went right back into almost irrelevancy. They've tried all kinds of players and trades and all kinds of stuff, and nothing has stuck. And there's a reason for it. All right, so we have these calls. We'll keep going with them. I don't want to sit on one topic because there's a lot going on in the world of sports, guys. And, you know, I found. I find it interesting that as much as we've been talking about quarterbacks and different quarterback news keeps coming up. Did you see who signed with Cleveland, by the way? The Cleveland Browns signed Kenny Pickett, and Kenny Pickett's telling everybody that. They told him he's going to have a chance to compete for the starting role. But they have Deshaun Watson, who's coming back off Achilles. They also have the number two pick in the draft. But if that's the case, and Cleveland's kind of out on quarterbacks, right? Mason Rudolph back in Pittsburgh. We know he's not a starter, but, you know, they're still figuring out Russell Wilson, Aaron Rodgers, the Giants as well. There's some story about the Vikings, and it does feel like that Aaron Rodgers is sort of holding up the works, doesn't it? And now it's like the way people are talking is like, it first was, we could know tomorrow, we could know today, and now it's, we might not know for weeks. Well, Peter, this thing is crazy.
Alan Hahn
Oh, no, this is. This is now turning into. I gotta tell you, by the way, we do have. Jacob, do you have the Rogers watch? Because we did have that. Alan, you brought it up. I forgot. Yeah, there already was. You forget. We did this once before.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Well, it doesn't really make sense now.
Alan Hahn
Why is that? It says, I think it's either between.
Peter Rosenberg
Green Bay or the jets for Rogers.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that's in the intro. Oh, you bet. You bet it is. I'd still like to hear it when you get a chance.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, whatever you'd like.
Alan Hahn
We could change it. Yeah, it was still lovely. Do we have the technology? Assume we did, yeah. By the way, you know what Anthony's dealing with over there? You know, I do know. He has to cut the. He has to cut audio with scissors. Wilson supposed to reel to real.
Peter Rosenberg
I have my razor with me right here.
Alan Hahn
But. But I'll say this about the Rogers thing I was with. I've now been on every side of this because I really do think there's some appeal to Rogers. If you're a Giants fan, I also thought the jets kind of rushed to making the decision. Almost like they, they had to have this demonstrative look at us, we're moving on. Look at, look at Glenn. He doesn't mess around. But now I think on the other side, I think Don's theory that he's been, he's been running with recently of Rogers is he. Maybe he's up to be a mentor. He's going to show up hat in hand. It's a different Aaron Rodgers. Allen. The more the hours go by, the more this is about Aaron Rodgers not knowing if he'll ever have a good year again and relishing holding court over the entire NFL. And it goes completely against on the philosophy that he's going to be a different man. Well, I disagree. Go ahead, please explain. I think he's waiting. I think Giant fans think that they're involved in this. I just wonder if it's just trying to choose between two teams or is it they. Do we know for a fact the Steelers really want him?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I'll tell you what I mean.
Alan Hahn
Like maybe he's waiting for the Steelers and maybe, maybe they're not courting him as hard as it's being reported. Or maybe it's, you know, Minnesota. He's just kind of waiting for an offer that maybe he hasn't gotten yet. I, I don't know. You think he's sitting there like mulling things over or.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. Yeah. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And I'm just gonna wait and make everybody wait and everybody sweat or, or is it like maybe he doesn't very.
Peter Rosenberg
Good or he's not happy with maybe what. Whatever these offers are. And so he's just kind of hanging out for the time being. Who knows? We do have it, so we might as well do an Aaron Rodgers watch. All right, Rogers, watch.
Alan Hahn
Here is the guest host of Jeopardy.
Peter Rosenberg
Aaron Rodgers. Welcome to Jeopardy. Lot of unknowns going into this offseason now.
Alan Hahn
It is a beautiful mystery. B. How are you feeling today? Not good, Bob.
Peter Rosenberg
Relax.
Alan Hahn
We're going to be okay.
Peter Rosenberg
So Adam Schefter, it's a different one.
Alan Hahn
I never heard that one.
Peter Rosenberg
Adam Schefter on with DNR this morning gave us the latest on the Aaron Rodgers watch. We're in the same spot we've been.
Alan Hahn
We continue to wait for Aaron Rodgers. We are on his timeline. I was told two days ago it could, quote, unquote, take some time. I don't know whether sometime is a day, a week, a month. When he's ready, they'll let the teams know. We'll know at that point in time. I have no idea whether that'll be today, tomorrow, next week, or next month.
Peter Rosenberg
How about that?
Alan Hahn
Now, I still think we're in the early stages to say that he's, like, calling for attention. It might be a very difficult decision. I agree. If we are waiting a month from now, then that's just stupid.
Peter Rosenberg
Right?
Alan Hahn
Because now we're dangerously close to the draft and. But maybe the offers aren't blowing him away. Maybe he wants to drive the numbers up. Maybe he's really thinking about, do I want to do this or should I just retire again? Maybe I'm grasping at straws here because you might be right, Peter, and because I ended up being wrong, he ended up not being on his best behavior the whole time he was with the Jets. I still think he has his hat in his hand, but I'm going to err on the side of it's a difficult decision. And I don't think he's being motivated by attention because I just. What are we waiting for, really? Is anybody, honestly, in Pittsburgh, in New York, with the Giants in Minnesota? Are they gonna be doing backflips if he makes the decision to go to your team? This is not Aaron Rodgers from two years ago. I mean, honestly, I could see a lot of people in Pittsburgh going, oh, God, he picked us. People in Minnesota going, oh, I don't know about. It's not going to be. You know, when. When. When he made this decision, we went to the Jets. I mean, there were some people that didn't like it, but there were. 90% of Jet fans were thrilled. They were excited.
Peter Rosenberg
It was a party.
Alan Hahn
I can't imagine that you're going to. It's still going to be, what, at best, maybe 60, 44, whatever team he chooses. So, like, you're talking about, what are you waiting. We're sitting there waiting for fireworks and a firecracker goes off. I mean, come on. If he's really to that point, dude, get over yourself, man. This isn't LeBron and the Decision. This isn't the first Aaron Rodgers. This isn't Juan Soto. This is nothing. This is not a big deal. This is grand closing.
Peter Rosenberg
This is the grand closing.
Alan Hahn
I mean, I want the Giants to sign him, but it's not like I'm going to be running around my house, like, high fiving the neighbors, like, we got Aaron Rodgers, like, oh, nice. That's a nice signing. And then I'm going to go back to scratching my head, just wondering what I'm going to have for dinner. What are you doing if you're not.
Peter Rosenberg
Just waiting on Aaron Rodgers like the Steelers and other teams are? How about Russell Wilson? So he was in Cleveland today to visit the Browns. As I mentioned, Kenny Pickett just signed with them and he's telling everybody. They told me I'm gonna have a chance to compete for the starting spot. He left without a deal. And Jeremy Fowler, our ESPN good buddy, he said, now Wilson's on his way to New York to visit the Giants. And the Giants are now in that situation where they are also wondering what's Rogers going to do. But in the meantime, I guess we should also entertain other options which include Russell Wilson. Now, quickly here, listen to what Mike Tannenbaum said on get up in reference to what the Browns should have sold to Wilson, knowing he was going to go to New York to talk to the Giants next. Listen to this.
Alan Hahn
Hey, Russell, come on in. You could start. We were a playoff team two years ago. We just retained arguably the best non quarterback in the NFL. If you walk out of this door, which you have the right to do, we are signing Jameis Winston.
Peter Rosenberg
And if you go to the New.
Alan Hahn
York Giants, it will be the professional grave because what was the last time since Eli Manning, a quarterback went to the Giants and he had a good story to tell. So, Russell, come on in.
Peter Rosenberg
You could start.
Alan Hahn
We may or may not draft a quarterback, but if I'm Cleveland, if I had Russell Wilson and Kenny Pickett, I have maximum flexibility in the draft. So I am creating a sense of urgency to see what Russell Wilson.
Peter Rosenberg
The Giants, a professional grave.
Alan Hahn
Mike. Mike. The Cleveland Browns calling out the Giants is like, like the Elephant man going, that dude's ugly. Oh, that's tough to the elephant, you know. So Cleveland should shut up. Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I mean, it wasn't Cleveland saying it was Mike saying that that's what he would say if he was running Cleveland.
Alan Hahn
Right. And so they weren't saying it there. No, but Mike would even look and say, listen, we're Cleveland. I gotta shut up. Until we start winning some games here and having some quarterbacks. My God, that's where quarterbacks go to die. But don't you.
Peter Rosenberg
I guess the point I'm trying to make here is we're at the point of free agency with quarterback. We're at the point with quarterbacks in the NFL. I think right now is right about. It's like quarter to one and the bar closes at one. You get what I'm saying?
Alan Hahn
Well, this is Peter's wedding, which was a Phenomenal wedding. Sorry, Al. And then, and then. I didn't know. They come over and the choice is a ham or baloney sandwich for your dinner. Like you're starving to death. So you'll take it and it might be the best bologna sandwich you ever had. This is, this is not a buffet anybody's lining up to get excited about.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Alan Hahn
These quarterbacks are all just, you know, it's a six foot sub at a wedding.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Or like I said. Or it's quarter to one and the bar closes at one. Is there nothing by yourself?
Alan Hahn
So. So, but, but the most tasty part of the sub, Don, with the, with the, with the condiments and the extra cheese and some jalapenos. Whatever it is you like that, that is the Aaron Rodgers part of the sub. I think at this point there's not a lot. Six foot sub is great. But if you go to a wedding and then they, they bring out, they bring out the food and it's a six foot sub, you're like, I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys are going food. I'm going a different direction.
Alan Hahn
I know you are and I'm trying.
Peter Rosenberg
To save you, but. No, don't save me me. This is, this is literally like you end up. Whoever you end up signing, you're not bragging about it. You're not telling anybody about it. You certainly don't want to be in any pictures. I got to do what I got.
Alan Hahn
Mid. Yeah, maybe mid minus. I was never really a runner. The way I see running is a gift. Especially when you have stage four cancer.

Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Can you at least isolate that part, Jake? Because Don did tease it and we stayed quiet just in time for the. The part we forgot that he said.

Yeah, try to get that. Because people that don't know what we're talking about.

That'd be a great drop. Just on its own. In the meantime, it is game time. Brought to you by Telemardu Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, it's telly time. All right, so the Rangers are. Yeah, See how you ruined it?

Alan Hahn
Is that true? All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you guys see my poll?
Alan Hahn
I did.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a nice poll. Yeah, it was long. Yeah, it was a good poll. So the Rangers on the road in Minnesota. They play the Wild. Coverage begins at 7:30 because we have 8:00 puck drop Eastern time, right?
Alan Hahn
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. So 7:30, that's after another grasser vehicle.
Alan Hahn
I don't know, because grass have filled in for Michael today.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that's right, it is. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
30 minutes of Grasse. He can give an extra half hour. It's not that big of a deal.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, easy enough. So anyway, 7:30 is your pregame. 8:80. The Devils host the Oilers tonight at 7:30. Nets visit the Bulls at 8. Telemore. Do the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey before. Be sure to grab a Telemurdo or try the new Telemurdo. Honey. During tonight's action, glasses up to enjoying Telemurdu responsibly. Anything on the Rangers tonight in Minnesota? This is a road trip. Obviously it's you. You mentioned how it's going to be difficult. So after this is it, what's the.
Alan Hahn
Next game after this Saturday night in Columbus.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. Okay, so Columbus was the next game. I know you mentioned this was a tough one because it's starting in Winnipeg, working your way down to Minnesota now going to Ohio to play Columbus and still desperate for points.
Alan Hahn
I'm going to go your route. I'm going to throw a must win on this. How about that? Wow, look at that. And probably a lot more important because we don't know this team's making the playoffs. And you know, Montreal got a point last night. You know, Detroit won Boston's 20 since making the Marchand trade. So they've got teams, they're amongst a bunch of teams here. Got to start winning games. They've got two points in their last four games. Blue leading the third against Washington, blew a lead in the third against Ottawa, got blown out against Columbus. They just, they got 22 shots against Winnipeg. I'll live with it. Winnipeg is the best team in the NHL. Minnesota is a 500 club at home. You've beaten them for the last five times you played them. You got to get a win here because then you got back to back games Saturday in Columbus, home against Edmonton on Sunday. So you got to start getting points here, guys. Then they still have a west coast trip that's coming up next weekend. You know, you got Toronto, you got Minnesota again, you've got Toronto. You've got to play Tampa a couple of times. I mean the schedule is really a beast now. I respect Minnesota. They got 10 more points than the Rangers do. They're in fourth place in a very competitive Central Division. Got to start getting wins, boys. I mean, you just got to. Because now all of a sudden that's five games without a regulation, without a win. It's. It's starting to pile up here. Gotta, gotta get two. Get to tonight you got lafreniere playing the left for the first time in two years. He's shaking things up here. So go get it done. And just. We didn't get a chance to talk about it yesterday. My bad. I should have brought it up. Good job bringing Quick back for a third year. He is such a mentor to the young kids. He's won 27 games here in a year, plus as the backup goaltender. He's been tremendous. And he probably never thought in a million years when he signed last year with the Rangers he'd parlay this into, you know, extending his career by three years. He won his 400th game here, grew up a Ranger fan in Connecticut. He's already got his cups and now he got a contract extension by a year from the Rangers. I thought that was a good job by Drury and good for Quick. He's a really, really good guy. But I'm gonna go you, you had the guts to do it yesterday with the Knicks.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
Alan Hahn
Doing the same with the Rangers. Must win tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
Must win. Rangers tonight. Minnesota again. Coverage begins at 7:30 and the puck drops at 8. See if they can get that win because as Don just laid out, it's true. You listen to the teams that are that are waiting for you. Columbus and then Edmonton at home, it just gets tougher and they need to get points. 800 now. 193776. We'll get back to your calls. Back to the Knicks conversation. So I said must win. They got the win. I mean they got it at the buzzer, but they got it. But there's more to talk about with this team because things that were said before the game made bigger headlines than even a buzzer beater.
