Peter Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Don Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers. All right. You teased us, Don.
Peter Rosenberg
I certainly did pay it off.
Don Hahn
You said, I'm gonna love the Arizona Cardinals.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. Because the Rams are playing in Arizona, as you know.
Don Hahn
Yeah, against the Vikings. Sure.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. So according to Adam Schefter, the Cardinals are sending two of the team's 777 planes to Los Angeles this afternoon, picking up the Rams team, its staff, their families, six dogs and two cats. Yes, six dogs and two cats, per an official, and bringing them to Arizona tonight. Cardinals are turning over their training facility for the evacuated Rams to use in advance of their Monday night game versus the Vikings at State Farm Stadium.
Don Hahn
That's awesome, man. That is awesome. I wonder how do you think they're gonna do. I mean, we just announced the tickets are on sale on NFL.com. but how do you do the ticketing for this game? Like, do you sell it full price like you would a playoff game at home somewhere? How can you.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I guess it really depends on what the demand is. Now, I would think if you have a ticket to the game, you can use that or exchange it to get a ticket in Arizona. And for the people that can't go, they're probably able to give them back, so they can then be resold. And I guess the price of the tickets will depend on what the demand is. I don't know what the demand is.
Don Hahn
Well, I just. I'm opening up and looking at it right now. Give me if you want to. It looks pretty reasonable. Wow. It looks like you could be down on the Viking sideline. This is on seatgeek. Are these. I can't tell. No, I think these are. I can't tell if they're box office or resale. You know, these days you can never tell. But it varies. It varies. I'm seeing some low seats in the 3, 400 range. But then you see some for a thousand and then you go up higher and it looks like you get higher up. Yeah. 200 bucks. 150. So yeah, I don't. This feels like a bit lower maybe than it would be for a home playoff game for one of these teams.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Because again, I. It's. It's pretty quick turnaround. It was, it was, you know, fairly late last night. I guess it was like after 7 o'clock that they announced that the time change. So it gives you a few days, but there's some people that, you know live in Los Angeles that just can't go to Arizona. But you know, if you all of a sudden had a playoff game in MetLife Stadium, Peter, I'd go, wouldn't you? No matter who was playing? But no, I don't know.
Don Hahn
I would not even. I would not even consider going.
Peter Rosenberg
Really interesting.
Don Hahn
And you're lying and you just. I want you to take a second. No, no, real quick. I want you to stop for a second and I want you to think about it. And then I want you to apologize because for the first time ever, I think you just accidentally lied to the audience.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I mean, obviously my circumstances, there's availability even.
Don Hahn
No kids.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but. No, no, no, no. Listen. You don't think it would be kind of cool like if I had no kids, if I was available to go? It was an option to go. There's nothing else going on. I've got that kind of disposable income to say the Rams are playing the Vikings in a playoff game at MetLife Stadium. And I could go, why wouldn't I go? It's a playoff game. I'll finally get to see something decent at MetLife Stadium. And then that isn't something to talk about like that. How often are playoff games move to a different venue? And to say the. I would definitely go.
Don Hahn
I wouldn't even consider. No, I'd have to be. I'd have to live outside the stadium. You know, it, it is such a pain to go to games like. In fact, I think you'll be on an island here. Anthony. Would you, Would you consider going to a game that your team wasn't involved in? Just cuz. No, probably not.
Richard
And I know how we all feel.
Don Hahn
About, about live football. Live playoff football. I don't know, like if I was in Arizona and I. And I said, you know what, what do I have going on this weekend? Let me go catch the Rams Vikings game. I probably would partake. But. But the Way that to get out of MetLife Stadium.
Richard
The air conditioner.
Don Hahn
That's. But that's. That's what. I'm all set.
Richard
I'm good.
Don Hahn
But. But either way, I'm sure Dom, by the time we get to game time on Monday, I'm sure locally you'll be able to walk in that game for pretty cheap. Because as many people as make the trip, it's not going to be like it would like. It would be an actual home game in one of these two markets. I would think so. Kudos to the NFL for doing the right thing. It was definitely the right move. I'm glad they did it. I'm gonna. I don't know if this is the right move. Don. Yesterday this man, when we picked him up, he in one click. We heard from him.
Peter Rosenberg
We were talking about how many clicks.
Don Hahn
Do you think he can repeat it?
Peter Rosenberg
No. Massive amount of clicks.
Don Hahn
Let's see. Richard, don, Peter.
Richard
Vikings versus Rams 50 years ago. Roman Gabriel, Fran Tarkington, Ahmad Rashad, Lawrence McCutcheon. Man, those were great playoff games. I remember they threw a bot at the referee when the Rams scored and they threw in Minnesota. They threw a bottle at the guy. Donnie, last night that was like a playoff game. You three together. That is such royalty. I put you guys, and this is hard for me to say. I put you three as the best announcing crew. I'll put you above Susan and John. Really? That's what tv, radio, whatever you want to say. I mean, no offense, Donnie, but Kenny, that's Marv Albert's sire. Come on. He is royalty. You what you do pre game, intermission after the game. Unbelievable. And Donnie, of course is Donnie. I mean you. Dave Rather is fantastic. You guys, last night was on top of your games, man. I listened to you guys from start to finish and I enjoyed myself so much. Only one thing today, guys. You didn't mention this. This is super important. The Islanders went to Las Vegas and beat the best team in H4 nothing. I mean good is this keeps them alive for a playoff spot. As did last night's Ranger game. Now the Rangers got to go play Utah Islander's got to play Las Vegas. It's still tough, but as long as we can post. Both played their 41st game, by the way, last night, so they're halfway through. But as long as we can keep it going for a little bit more and have that taste of hopefully playoff.
Peter Rosenberg
Hockey for both Richard, I'll tell you this. If they play the way they played last night, they're going to be in good Shape. The question is, can they continue to play at that clip? That was a tremendous game. But Richard, I'm sorry, it's an. It's an NFL Friday going into playoff playoffs, you know, and we're only an hour and 10 minutes into the show, but maybe, you know, mention the Rangers double game because it was a great game and we plan on talking about it later on. But, you know, you're gonna scold us for not bringing up Islanders Vegas.
Don Hahn
I'm just curious if you were a game Richard. Yeah. If Richard were leading this show, which is an interesting and terrifying thought, what would have been the segment? Like, let's just. Are we breaking it down? What would he want to really do? It's a great win for the Islanders. It's a playoff football Friday, Richard.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. It's not like we do updates anymore where you're going to get caught up in what happened last night. It's. It was a good one. Do you remember how you said to come up.
Don Hahn
Do you remember how you used to do your updates?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Did you have like a rhythm and like a set way that you wrote and did the update?
Peter Rosenberg
Absolutely, I did.
Don Hahn
You think you still know it? Like you think you could still do it in the exact same old school Don legreco way?
Peter Rosenberg
I think I could, yes. If There was a 4:00 update.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That I would have done. I would not have mentioned the Islander game from last night in my 4 o'clock update.
Don Hahn
What would have made the mention right now? What would a 4:00 update have been.
Peter Rosenberg
The lead for me, it would probably be Nick's Oklahoma City because it's on our air. It's a game coming up in a few hours.
Don Hahn
Here we go.
Peter Rosenberg
Would be my. I don't. Guys, I'm not gonna do it.
Don Hahn
Oh, come on. I just. I just. What about lady? Can you do one?
Peter Rosenberg
I just got a D. Chill. And you know what the D means. I did updates for a long time. It was my bread and butter. It's what got me into this business. Don't make me ever do it again.
Don Hahn
Even.
Peter Rosenberg
Even. Even for a goof. Okay. It's. No, I've moved on from that. It's another time in my life if I had to do it to save my job. Sure. For blanks and giggles at 4:11. I'm good.
Don Hahn
1-800-919-3776. Whatever. Whatever is floating your boat. Ray in Brooklyn wants to talk Knicks. What's up, Ray?
Richard
Hey, good afternoon, gentlemen. Listen, let me just say one thing before I get into my next Peter. I greatly appreciate one time several years ago, because I'm a proud Boric when you said that Big Pun is greatly underappreciated, might be lyrically the most gifted rapper of all time, because I wholeheartedly agree with that, you know, with that assertion. And I think that even though Puerto Ricans are minorities and people of color, I think the hip hop community, a lot of people within that community have a hard time embracing someone that is not all the way, you know, African American. So definitely wanted to say that. I appreciate that you being honest because it wasn't and probably still isn't a very popular opinion, but I greatly appreciate it as a. As a Puerto Rican. Thank you for that.
Don Hahn
Thanks, man. And what you got on the Knicks?
Richard
On the Knicks, Right. So I wanted. Listen, I want to. I want to defend Tim's just like Michael K. Did when he was ending his show. I want to start a petition here, guys, to defund the minutes police, because I don't want to hear anything about minutes when all I hear is that these athletes are bigger, stronger, faster, and that, you know, the sports science and medicine is way more advanced than it was even a generation ago when I was watching guys go 40 minutes every single night and 82 games. The other thing is that he is a Hall of Fame coach. He's got three, you know, coaches of the year. He probably deserves one or two more. But at everything that he does leave does get infinitely, exponentially worse, right? And the next, he and Jalen Brunson have cultivated this, you know, this environment, this culture where, you know, it's all selfless, right? The two leaders, especially Jalen Brunson is a self environment. Look at how much better the Tibs and, and Brunson have made cat, as opposed to being in that environment where Anthony Edwards, where, yeah, Anthony Edwards would like to win, but he's more of a Carmelo Anthony to me, where he's still pretty happy getting his numbers because he's got a little bit of an ego there. Jalen Brunson has zero ego. Look at, look at the guys who come to the Knicks. Josh Hart is 10 times better than he used to be playing with Daniel Lillard. Your cat has had a renaissance as opposed to, you know, playing with Anthony Edwards. And look at Julius Randle and, and even Chenzo. They've got exponentially worse. They've taken three steps back and all of these guys were way better playing with Brunson. And, you know, I'm, I'm tired of the hate for Tims and a little bit of the hate that Brunson is getting because people are now saying, hey, you know, they're in love with the new toy and I love Cat, but everybody say, hey, you know, Cat is our mvp. There's no way in hell this team is doing anything without Jalen Brunson. He's the one who facilitates this. He's the one who makes guys better. He's the force multiplier. That's all I have to say. Guys, I appreciate it, you guys have a great day.
Peter Rosenberg
But I just think Ray's argument is flawed when he says, well, these athletes are bigger, stronger, faster, they're well conditioned, they should be able to go out there, play 40 plus minutes every night. Sure, but who is it more of an advantage, Peter, once you get to the playoffs? The team that's more rested or the team that's had to work harder? That's what we're saying. We know they're conditioned, we know they can handle the minutes. But the problem is in this league you've got teams that don't go by that philosophy. They dial it down, they load, manage. So when they get to the playoffs, they're better rested. So these world class athletes, I'll take the rested ones over the ones that had to work their tail off for 82 games to get home court advantage in the first round. That's what we fear. Now, I don't think I'm arguing for load management, Peter, but what I'm arguing for, take care of business against Toronto, be up by 30 in the fourth quarter and have Brunson play 30 minutes instead of 38. Those are the things we're talking about. Be able to try to develop a bench. So you're not going with the same eight guys every single night. They're going to try to get to as high as a four seed or higher because they see the value in trying to avoid Boston in the second round. Well, that means you're going to have to work your tail off to get there. And now at some point you're going to have to take on a team that didn't have to work as hard. Don't you think that team's going to be at a bit of an advantage? That's what we're talking about. And certainly nobody is questioning what Tibbs can do with a team or what he can get out of a team. The only criticism I ever hear about Tibbs is working his guys too hard. So you don't have to defend Tibbs to us. We think he's a fabulous coach, but I do think the minutes is an issue. So I will not defund those police.
Don Hahn
The minutes police.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, well, not defund the minute police. Thank you for making sure.
Don Hahn
I said let's specify you're not making too much of a statement one way or the other because you know this place.
Peter Rosenberg
They'll make it a drop and I'll.
Don Hahn
Yeah, I'll be Don has a new drop that just. I will not defund the police. If you need three new reasons to love Jack wraps at Jack in the box even more, here they are. Don Hahn
Peter, how are you man?
Richard
And you two dance? I have never gotten a chance to say it on the last show but I've always wanted to say it. First time, long time.
Peter Rosenberg
Cool.
Richard
Really appreciate you guys. Been a big fan. Knicks fan from Toronto. But I won't talk about that because like you guys said, it's a freaking football week wild card weekend. So let's talk about that. Let's talk about that.
Don Hahn
Please, please, please.
Richard
My question is I'm a. I'm a Broncos fan. I got no disillusions. We're not going to win. I think the spread is a Little bit too big, but that's another, that's a question for another day and I don't think it's going to be as big as the game suggests. My thing is with especially how the AP voting suggests that it seems as though Josh Allen isn't going to win the mvp. How much pressure do you think is going to be on him? Because I don't think they've exactly added the stars that they did with Baltimore for Lamar's case. So you can't exactly put it at that scale. But I do think there's pressure on him to perform, especially with how last season was with the Chiefs and the meltdown. So I don't think there's no pressure on him, but it is not as much as Lamar. I want to get your guys thoughts on that.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, it's a good question. Listen, do I think there's more pressure on Lamar than, than Allen? Maybe. But I think there's way, way, way more pressure on the Bills than the Ravens as a team.
Don Hahn
Yes, team pressure. There's no one has more pressure as a team than the Bills. Done. Like I, I actually believe, and I've said this before and I'm going to tell you say it again now, and I say this knowing that the Bill's defense is severely limited. Right. If the Bills play the Chiefs, which it feels like Don every year, invariably it feels like they always will. But we'll see. It will be as high pressure a game as we've ever seen for a team and fan base. And I've talked to Bill's fans who have been like, oh, you know, I don't want to think about it in that way. We always assume we're going to lose anyway. So the pressure is not even going to be that bad because like we never expect. Nonsense. You, you are going to feel like Don, you never have a better chance.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
Than you have this year. And can you lose to the Chiefs again?
Peter Rosenberg
No, you can't. And also listen, Lamar's got his own personal pressure because all these MVPs are stacking up and it's really difficult to be a quarterback and win MVPs and not have played in a Super bowl, never mind won one. But the Bills have a cut. But the Ravens have a couple of super bowl championships. All right? They've got one somewhat recently Bills have, you know, they haven't been to a Super bowl in 30 years. They're 0 and 4 in the Super Bowl. They've never won. So I think there's an immense pressure on the Bills to get it done at this point. But from an individual standpoint, I do think the pressure is probably a little bit greater on Jackson, but there's still pressure on Allen for sure. Because. Because of what you said, I don't think anybody's going to expect much from this defense, but they're going to want him to go out there and they're going to want him to perform well. And I think if he does, I think they'll get there. But losing to the Chiefs again, Peter, then it. Then it just becomes a problem. So there's pressure.
Don Hahn
Oh, it's. It would be so brutal. So, so brutal. Let's go to Joey and Montclair. Hey, Joey.
Richard
Hey, guys. How are you today? Happy Football Friday. Real quick, I want to say congratulations on the show. Well deserved for you both. Wishing you both nothing but great drops of high ratings. I trust you both and I want to ride with you if you'll be so kind. Yeah, you cook me up a nice five leg touchdown parlay for this weekend. I have my five picks, but I trust you guys. Whatever you say, I'm rolling with you.
Don Hahn
Ooh, five. And you don't mean. Not money line. You cover points. No touchdown parlay. I just touchdown parlay. I just. Touchdown. Just touchdown.
Richard
Touchdown scores. All right.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Richard
So right now I have Saquon, Henry, James Cook, Jordan Addison, and Mike Evans. And I want to hear if you guys have anything different.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, just scoring a touchdown. I. I have to have Josh Allen in there. He's going to run for a touchdown. He always seems to. I got to have Josh Allen in my parlay. And I love the Saquon one.
Don Hahn
I love. I. I feel pretty good about Henry Anthony suggested Terry McLaurin. I don't hate Terry McLaurin. I. I also don't hate Jaden Daniels. Like, they use him a lot down there as well. I think he has like 10 this year. I don't hate where you're at right now, though. Mike Evatt. Yeah, Honestly, I hate to say it, but I don't hate Mike Evans.
Peter Rosenberg
And I like Evans. I like Barkley. I'm getting Allen in there. I think I'm getting Jefferson.
Don Hahn
Oh. Oh, yeah. Well, Detroit doesn't play this week. Damn it. I was gonna say Gibbs is like free money.
Richard
Well, I'm definitely gonna review this on the podcast I subscribe to and these sets will be placed on the glorious espn.
Don Hahn
Well, you know what? We appreciate you. We hope you do a great job. Joey, Congratulations.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, I think Anthony had a good one. He whispered in my ear lad McConkey for the Chargers. If they're going to score a ton of points, I got to think he's going to be involved there. You're not picking winners, just guys that score touchdowns. And I just think Josh Allen scores touchdowns. Right. So I, I got to have him as one of my five. And he didn't have Allen originally, so.
Don Hahn
How many, how many touchdowns? Do you know how many touchdowns Josh rushed for this season? I'm gonna find out right now for it. I might. If you guys give me five, I'll put it in for us as a show unit. Oh, you don't want to. He threw for 28, in case that does anything for you.
Peter Rosenberg
It's definitely north of 5. I would think he rushed for 12.
Don Hahn
He rushed for 12. Yeah, that's, that's a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a, that's basically almost won a game. Yeah. So I, you gotta have Alan in there.
Don Hahn
How many Jaden rush for their whippersnapper? Let's see here. I'm gonna say jaden rushed for 10 himself. You know, Lamar rushed for a lot, obviously. Yeah, Lamar's got his share too. Jaden Daniels rushed for six touchdowns. That's a lie, that's all. Where are you getting your stats? I don't believe it. Espn. Espn. They're pretty good. What they do. Let's go to Jonathan in la. Hi, guys. What's up? Jonathan, this is interesting.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead.
Richard
Hey. Hey, guys. Hey, guys. How's it going again? This is the second Jonathan shout out to the og.
Don Hahn
Sorry, it's not hi guys. Jonathan. It's the Toronto. Toronto la John.
Peter Rosenberg
Just, just for my own, just from my own entertainment. Jonathan, can you do a hi guys?
Richard
Hi, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
Okay, that's where you got hi guys.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys sounded a little alike, but now, now I notice the separation. Okay.
Don Hahn
Yeah, Very big difference.
Richard
Yeah, it doesn't, it doesn't hit the same. You know, I respect that shout out to him. So, you know, we gotta, we gotta figure this out, how we're gonna label each other, you know, There you go, guys. Let's talk about the elephant in the room. Or, or, you know, or the Michael K. Or the Michael K in the room. It's the end of the last week, which means, like who's winning, who's winning this week. I think I have a couple categories if you, if you bear with me for a minute. So I broke it up in five or four maybe. We have the show picture. You guys won the show picture by far, right?
Don Hahn
Really?
Richard
Michael K has absolutely Michael K. It's a little bit. No, the smile is force. There's too much forehead in the picture. So. So you guys definitely want to. By far, yours is a lot more natural. It's funny. It's different.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think Michael took a new picture either. We tell. He did picture.
Don Hahn
This is a picture. Yeah, it's a new picture.
Richard
It's a bad choice.
Don Hahn
It's. It's. I don't hate it. It's not a horrible photo.
Peter Rosenberg
But ours being better is. Is the right answer.
Don Hahn
That's all right. Keep going.
Richard
Absolutely. Absolutely. We have music. Michael, why is he so lazy? He didn't even change the intro music. Like the ops chord is. Is off. You guys are. You guys are bad. Balanc. The rock and the hip hop. And obviously the intro is spot on, especially for a Friday. Like you guys said, it's crazy. Like, it's. It's the. It's what I need here in LA right now. So you guys won the music.
Don Hahn
Yep.
Richard
The guest. The guest was hard, right? Because. Because Michael has some of the heavy hitters and he has somebody. The hot takes. Yeah, he has a lot of the hot takes. You know, hot take of Lasky. He has a lot of the hot takes. So I'm gonna give that to Michael.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Richard
And last but not least, the sports knowledge. This is. This is a sports show. The sports knowledge. I mean, it's three against one. He knows a lot. To his credit. He knows a lot.
Don Hahn
Yeah, sure.
Richard
Too heavy on the Yankees. When the Yankees aren't even playing.
Don Hahn
They're not even close to.
Richard
They're not even close to playing. And I am. I am a Yankees fan, but I believe Knicks right now in the winter.
Peter Rosenberg
Sure.
Richard
So, you know, so I think. I think you guys take the sports category as well. So three to one, you guys are the winner.
Don Hahn
Everyone.
Richard
You know, Michael only cares about himself. So, you know, just make sure that he knows that you guys have the upper hand for not with them.
Don Hahn
Wow. Jonathan. Jonathan from Toronto originally and now in la, breaking it down to a fine powder, giving us a much deserved win over K in week one.
Peter Rosenberg
And I agree with all the things he said.
Don Hahn
It was a. Yeah, Michael definitely won the. He came strong with the guests.
Peter Rosenberg
He did.
Don Hahn
No question. He dug deep into the Rolodex. We knew he would. Although I'll tell you right now, our spot with John Ireland and David Wright yesterday were fantastic.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, if he just isolated yesterday, then. Then we win. But overall, I mean, he had some big hitters. He had Mike Breen on Steve Young.
Don Hahn
Yeah, he you know, you knew he was going to do what he did. And although I'll tell you what, we come back strong with Ryan Clark on the show today.
Peter Rosenberg
No, we do. And then David Wright yesterday, as you said, we've had Namath on the show. You know, don't, don't sleep on the guests that we've.
Don Hahn
Yeah, we did. We did have Namath, Seth Rollins, David Wright, we had John Ireland, we had Jordan Ron on. You know, listen, I thought we put together a really nice show. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I didn't listen to anything you just said. Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. This is a Football Friday and It's presented by bet365. It's never ordinary at bet365. Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
You know who this is, right?
Don Hahn
I guess I should say just say no.
Peter Rosenberg
This is Pantera. Walk off the album Vulgar Display of Power, which is one of the greatest albums of all time.
Don Hahn
And that's their, that's their greatest album.
Peter Rosenberg
I believe so. Some might say Cowboys from Hell. I say no, it's Vulgar Display of Power.
Don Hahn
Did you see that? The story. Oh, first of all, let's, let's. We have a lot to get to coming up in the five hours.
Peter Rosenberg
Show me.
Don Hahn
It's gonna be. It's gonna be hot. I said it hot. Of every phone line. Now fall. We got to get to Pete Alonzo. There's a Richard correction to get to interest. There's foot. There's multiple Alonzo calls. So Don, in the, in the, in the 5 o'clock hour. We have a ton to get to. You realize that?
Peter Rosenberg
Tons.
Don Hahn
Now, what was your overall takeaway, your biggest takeaway from the College Football Playoff last night?
Peter Rosenberg
That the Giants should not be taking the Penn State quarterback. That was my. Listen, I don't want to judge the kid on one game and. But that was an awful decision at the end. The, the pick was a competitive game and Penn State just can't seem to win these big games. They blew a 10 nothing lead and that was just a horrifying final possession. You can't throw an interception there.
Don Hahn
They get the ball back. You know, it looked like Notre Dame was going to end this thing and then Penn State and Aller get the ball back. Plenty of time and just to immediately make a back foot throw across the field. Just a really bad decision. And of course they don't get the ball back again. Notre Dame is able to get in the field position, win the game with a field goal. It was. No, it's. It's. You said it, Don. You don't want to judge the kid, but let's be honest. So many people, this is when they tune in and start paying attention, and.
Peter Rosenberg
That'S what you see. Well, not only that. It was just that, hey, he said he's going back to Penn State for a senior year, but it was kind of a cryptic social media post where my intention is to come back. So many people looked and said, are you telling me if he's got a big game against Notre Dame, they win and they win the national championship, he's not going to reconsider? So it wasn't just made up. It was just, well, hey, here's an opportunity, possibly a couple of games, to kind of change his mind, change the narrative and maybe put himself in the conversation, be a top three pick.
Richard
Of course.
Peter Rosenberg
Course he would change his mind. Well, that wasn't the case last night.
Don Hahn
He should stay. Yeah. Yeah. I'll tell you what. You know, who ends up coming across again as someone who I'm very open about this does not watch a ton of college football. To me, Don, if you're watching that game and thinking, who would I want to see be a part of my organization? How is not Marcus Freeman like, you know, listen, I think sometimes we get a little overly caught up with the X's and O's talk when it comes to being a head coach. And I think so much of being a great head coach is about just being the kind of leader that you are. You know, anybody can sort of. You can find good coordinators if you have a good eye for it. What is sort of your quality? How do you lead? Lead people? Marcus Freeman is 39 years old and now has Notre Dame playing for the national championship. By the way, how's Brian Kelly doing?
Peter Rosenberg
I was gonna say, that was my.
Don Hahn
I'm here with my family.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm gonna go to LSU because I can't win a national championship in. In Notre Dame. Are you kidding me?
Don Hahn
So now, Marcus Freeman. Who? Don, if you want to feel really, really young, I'm here with my family. Was not alive when the giants went the 86 Super Bowl. Okay. He's born January 10, 1986. He's a kid in terms of coaching at least, but he's a man. I mean, I was just so impressed by. By that guy. I mean, Don, he may have jumped off the page more than anyone else.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
And now Notre Dame will await the winner of Texas Ohio State, which Of course, is tonight. And you can Hear it on 10.50am in full or in progress after the nick game on 880 tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
Ray Row.
Don Hahn
That's right on the rail.
Peter Rosenberg
Texas. But how dead sexy would Notre Dame, Ohio State.
Don Hahn
But it's a great point because, like, don't get me, Texas is a sexy program, too.
Peter Rosenberg
No, that's not. It wouldn't be an awful matchup. Not at all.
Don Hahn
No. But Notre Dame, Ohio State, it's like, it's. That's. That's crazy. And I'm sure there were. I'm sure there will be some excellent places to consume. Notre Dame in the national championship in New York. Because as you mentioned yesterday, there's so many Notre Dame alum here, and I'm sure they were all celebrating yesterday. My buddy Jim Scranton. McGee was having a party. You could hear. I could hear Don all the way from his house in Maryland.
Peter Rosenberg
Pinhead wings.
Don Hahn
That's it. Scranton, Pennsylvania. No interest in Penn State. All about Notre Dame.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Don Hahn
Yeah. Notre Dame's a different kind of thing. Because you made the point, too. Your dad rooted for Notre Dame and he wasn't anywhere near getting into Notre Dame. I say that respectfully, but he was a proud Catholic man.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, was.
Don Hahn
He rooted for Notre Dame.
Peter Rosenberg
But how do you know his educational status. I mean, you're right, but how did you know? Because you think because I'm stupid, my dad had to be stupid.
Don Hahn
Well, I don't think either of you are stupid.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm just not Notre Dame. We're not.
Don Hahn
I've just heard stories. I've heard stories about your dad. He didn't strike me as he was applying to Notre Dame, but because you guys are a good Catholic family, guess what? Notre Dame runs in the house. That's what. That's what happens in this country.
Peter Rosenberg
Priests were allowed to marry in the Catholic religion. My dad would have been a priest. That's how religious he was at one point in his life. Things turned. I can tell you that story. It's really interesting. It'd be more interesting than anything. We'll talk about the rest of the day, but I'm not going to bring it up on the air.
Don Hahn
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
I look forward to hear things turned.
Don Hahn
All right. I look forward to hearing that as well. Obviously, he was very religious. But there was only one thing more important than religion. I respect that and agree with the man. Thanks for listening to my Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, man. I just want to know. It's good hear My more of Don Allen and Peter Weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
