All right, well we've got some surprises coming this summer involving football, so stay tuned. Mets win. Mark Viento is hit by a pitch fractured hand on the il. So even when they win, something happens. But they win a series for the first time since they took two out of three from the Braves last month. But the Yankees are the topic of conversation here people. Now they won their game today. They were down 1 nothing but they put up a 6 spot and ended up rolling 12 to 4. Getting continued production as Rice has gotten it back. He's gotten a swagger back, guys. He's, he's, he's now preparing for the home Run Derby.

[Peter]

Ah, perfect.

[Rosenberg]

How many home runs does he have in like the last three games?

Last three games. He had another one today.

the old season but he had been like slumping but I think he's got like four or five over the last like three games or whatever. So he's getting himself ready.

He doesn't slump for long.

But Yankees get the bats going. But bats were not going. Rice got 28 before the game today. They lost two out of three to Tampa before the game today. So they ended up splitting the four game series. So they don't gain any ground on Tampa but they don't lose any ground. So that's important. So where do they stand now as far as games Back of the Rays with the win today they're five back. So that's why today was, was big because had they lost the game today and they had an opener today guys, and they were down a run going in that they would have fallen seven games behind. So the stat was, Chris Carlin mentioned it earlier today that teams this deep in the season that were seven or more games back of first place since divisional play started in 1969. So that's what, 57 years ago to you and me, only 19 teams have overcome that deficit. Now I still would feel like the Yankees could do it because they're missing their best player and one of the best players in baseball. So if you're going to come back from a deficit, that's the kind of guy you want to add. Plus, you know, Stanton had a setback, but he still can come back. And you got. Freed's going to come back. Rodon. So the Yankees are going to get healthier. So I don't. I am not conceding this race to the race. Even if they had lost today and we're seven back, would you. I mean, it would be tough, but I'm not conceding anything.

[Don Hahn]

Certainly not conceding.

[Rosenberg]

Obviously still not in a good place.

But today was a big deal.

To get the win. But before Brian Cashman spoke to the media after the Yankees had lost another tough one last night. Three nothing. It's. It's so amazing. Like, not only the Yankees getting shut down, like the games are over in a blink. Like, I, all of a sudden I was. The kids went swimming. So I come home, we have dinner, I'm watching a game. And then I had the. I give everybody showers now. Declan, he's going to be 11. He's good. I still have to keep an eye on the eight year olds because if you don't all of a sudden, things will start growing off of them because they're going to miss areas.

[Don Hahn]

Sure.

[Rosenberg]

All right. Especially the key ones.

So did you see Don doing like the prison shower thing where he's holding the hose and he's just.

[Rosenberg]

There is. There is a little something to that.

Yeah, right. You like the liquid soap. You just spray him with the liquid soap because they're getting down.

But here's the thing.

I can see done doing that because

they're getting turn around. They're getting to the age now you can't reach in and do anything. You're just telling them what to do.

So, like it's, it's not like they're three. You know what I mean? They're eight years old, kind of like at a distance.

I'm just. This was. This is how my dad was. My dad had like zero patients and I'm just like. So my dad would show me how to do something like, let's say, vacuum under the table. And then I would start to do it. Just give me the damn thing. And he would do it himself.

[Peter]

Right.

[Rosenberg]

Because he doesn't want to have to. You Know, go through it. Should be done in 30 seconds. He's not going to spend five minutes to show me how to do it.

[Don Hahn]

Side note, my dad did the same thing with me. Right. You know what? Zach learned, and we'll see if Marco does this.

Zach learned, if dad wants me to do something, I say, how do I do it? Then dad shows me. I screw it up, Dad'll do it.

David again, love my brother. Brilliant at what he does, but, like, he would just stand in the middle of the living room with the vacuum cleaner, just going back and forth over the same two feet, and then be like, all right, give me. Give me the damn vacuum. And then he realized, you know what?

I don't have to do anything anymore, so I'll end up grab. There's like, they got a loofah. I'll just grab and I just start scrubbing because I just, I just want to get this over with. You're not doing that.

Caddyshack. Loofah my stretch.

I got loofahs. I, I. That. That was a Nancy decision. There's a pink and an orange loofah. So anyway, so I'm done with the showers.

Showers took, what, 50 all of a sudden? Let me check in. The game's over. Like, these things fly by. They don't take up a lot of your time. So anyway, Brian Cashman spoke on the

Yankee struggles not playing well on all sides of it. That's why we've got the record we've got during that time frame. So we came out of, I think it was Cleveland and Detroit and into Boston. And ever since then, we've been a different version of ourselves. So every day, we're certainly hopeful that we can get back on track and start building more positive momentum. Obviously, it's a tough sport, tough game. I believe in positivity and positive momentum, but I also believe that consequently, too, if you get going in the wrong direction, you know, that can avalanche as well. And that's what we're dealing with right now.

[Rosenberg]

Love, Brian. Brian would come on my, like, night show when I first started working here. What a guy. He's a gem. But all he did was tell us everything we already know. Just added a few extra words to make it longer. Yeah. So we didn't.

I can we all agree there was nothing really learned there.

Are you surprised the whole team is slumping.

[Brian Cashman]

Yeah. Obviously Some of the injuries don't help. And then having slumps collectively happen during that time frame makes it more difficult, clearly. So right now I'm sure our hitters are choking, you know, the handles of their bats. And they know every day it's go time. And sometimes that can work against you, you know, by added pressure. And, you know, we're certainly fighting it and fighting ourselves right now as we're trying to get back and find that good stride.

[Rosenberg]

I don't know how you feel about you're the Yankee fan in the room. I don't like when my managers, head coaches, general managers bring up the injuries. Like, I would rather. We all know that you've lost Judge and Stanton. Stanton almost doesn't count because you know he's going to get hurt. You know, there's going to be a month, he's going to mess.

[Don Hahn]

Did you hear he's the calf injury that he suffered while running bases is a new injury.

[Rosenberg]

Oh, yeah. No, he's a mess.

[Don Hahn]

So he got an injury while being injured.

[Rosenberg]

Right. So, you know, you know, just got

[Don Hahn]

to get him right for October.

[Rosenberg]

You can never with a straight face say, oh, we lost Stan. He's on the team. Of course you lost Stan. You're always going to lose Stan. Yeah, you just hope you don't lose him in the postseason.

[Peter]

Right.

[Don Hahn]

It's like Mitchell Robinson, but you know what I mean.

[Rosenberg]

Like, I know it's an old cliche. It's mostly like a football thing. Like injuries are an excuse. Listen, I know, but still, you've got good players. You just can't go into a slump just because you lose a couple of players. I mean, there's still very good players on this team that shouldn't, you know, get. You shouldn't be getting three hit every night. But this is important. Brian Cashman, his update on Aaron Judge.

[Brian Cashman]

Yeah, we're going to reimage him during the All Star break, so that'll give us a real idea of where that currently sits. I don't think we want to put him at risk of coming back while still injured, which would imply, again, he should be asymptomatic before we turn him loose. So I think if he's asymptomatic and not feeling anything and they're showing healing, then it's probably appropriate to get him going again. But we don't want to because the schedule is what it is, put him in a position where he could him in jeopardy, where somehow it gets worse.

[Rosenberg]

All right, so he's going to.

[Don Hahn]

The problem is he's not asymptomatic.

[Rosenberg]

Right.

[Don Hahn]

And, and he's still feeling symptoms and

[Rosenberg]

they don't know when he's going to stop having those symptoms. So it's hard to figure out when he's going to come back. He's not going to get reimaged until after the All Star break, which is coming up next week. So we are probably not going to see him, I would think until August. Oh, at the minimum.

[Don Hahn]

Right.

[Rosenberg]

It's already July 9th. He's not going to get imaged until after the All Star break. So that, that means. Because it's, it's. Nobody's going to play until the following Friday. Right. They're going to play Sunday. They're going to. You'll go to Philadelphia for the All Star game and then they're going to be playing again on Friday. So I'm assuming he's not going to get any imaging done until late next week.

[Don Hahn]

Does he have to go? Does he go? Well, does he just show face for All Star? I don't know.

[Rosenberg]

I guess that's up to him.

[Don Hahn]

I'm trying to remember in baseball, is it expected? Did you come out when you're introduced?

[Rosenberg]

No, I mean why, why make the guy. Well, listen, maybe he'll do it because it's. I don't know where he's, where he is right now, but if he's still in New York, in Philadelphia is close enough that maybe you do it. I wouldn't get on a plane and fly to Seattle.

[Peter]

I was hurt.

[Don Hahn]

He was in the dugout today, so.

[Rosenberg]

But I don't know what his plan is like as far as. But if he's going to stay in New York. Yeah, I would go to Philadelphia.

[Brian Cashman]

Right.

[Rosenberg]

It's a two hour car ride. But if he doesn't want to go. But it would be nice, I guess to just tip your cap. Right. You know, you'll be an All Star.

[Don Hahn]

Yeah.

All right. So, Brian, the deadline is coming up. We got a ways to go. It's not until the end of July, but on the deadline coming up, we're

open minded in the deadline to try to improve ourselves, period, end of story. We'll evaluate what's available and try to push in on anything that makes sense that we can acquire that will make us better, you know, whether it's pitching or offense. So it doesn't change anything.

[Peter]

That might be, that might be a sign, guys.

So it's not like they. They have a serious need as a starting pitch.

Like, Duval's got to put him on a rocket to the moon now.

And then you go out, you trade for school. That gives you five. Somebody ain't pitching. So I guess it would be Rodin or whoever's not pitching well.

Well, he was. That was his day. Why they had the opener was because I think his today exactly like so.

But if everybody comes back healthy, that gives you five. You need four for the postseason. But do you do it just because, hey, guys get hurt. I want to make sure that I got depth at pitching. What do I have to give up? Because, you know, Brian doesn't like to give up prospects willy nilly. And is it a need? I know pitching stops hitting, but right now, do you look at the Yankees and say whenever, when all their pitchers are healthy, like right now? Weathers has cost you games. Warren has cost you games. But they're not going to be guys. They're going to be pitching in the postseason. They're not pitching when everybody comes back healthy. What has stopped you from being a championship team is bats and the bottom of the order. You can't. The bottom of the order and getting nothing out of your catching position.

[Don Hahn]

Correct.

[Rosenberg]

To me, I would think that would be the priority. Brian, is trading for a bat a priority?

[Brian Cashman]

I'm gonna keep it general. I think trying to find ways to get better is both with what we currently have, but also in evaluating that on a daily basis with the alternative choices that we might have at AAA and then what's available outside the organization, and constantly seeing if something's available that makes us better and if we can match up on it. You know, there's a lot of levels to that, but, you know, I expect more of those heavier discussions to take place after the draft. It seems like a lot of teams are trying to evaluate where they're sitting, but most more importantly, a lot of them are just evaluating where they're in on the draft currently, trying to get past that first.

[Rosenberg]

And he did Say later on we don't have the cut here about, you know, obviously needing a catcher. A freedom through will throw live BP Saturday. Rodan was supposed to play catch today.

[Don Hahn]

Play catch.

[Rosenberg]

So they're coming back. They will be back. Now will these affect your chances of winning the division? Possibly, but you should have for the stretch run and the postseason for stud starters all healthy. Do you really want to go out? Do you really feel like you need to get another starter?

[Don Hahn]

I don't think starter bullpen for sure. Every year they always go out and get bullpen help. Right. Jeffers, you know, for catcher because you need the righty and he's available. I'm playing what I got. But as a general manager, for you to say that we have injuries tells me that you did not build me the right kind of depth. Because injuries have to be part of the equation. When you're building a team, you have to be thinking about all of the risk management that you got going on. And highest risk is injury at key positions. So what do I have depth wise that can get us through? And the guys that you brought in are not getting you through. Is it fair that Goldschmidt, who's 38 years old, is complaining every day? He shouldn't be. You didn't bring him in to do that. No. That's fine. But there are still are other pieces that you're asking right now. Just get us through this patch. I'm not asking to get me through 100 games. I'm asking you to get me through 40, 30, they got to do better. So that's on you as a gm that you did not assess well in the type of players that you brought in. Is that fair?

There's three teams that. From the beginning, really, there was two, but there's three that just seem to be in the hunt, as they say. The Cleveland Cavaliers, the Philadelphia 76ers, the Golden State warriors, and somewhere on the periphery is Pat Riley in the Miami Heat.

Which, you know, I put them at a distant fourth.

But this could be over with last week. This could have been over with Monday. This could be a. With today. But he's just doing what he does when he's a free agent. He makes it about him. He waits till everybody else does what they're going to do. And then the teams that are now kind of held hostage because they got to. They can't make any other moves yet until they know if they're going to get him or not and what they need to do if they do get him, it's kind of holding the whole thing up. He's 41 years old. This might be a farewell tour kind of thing. Was this the time for him to one more time hijack free agency and turn it into. We're all waiting with bated breath to see when LeBron James will make his decision. To a point now where the. The trickle of information that's getting out is as mundane and as inane as, you know, teams are sending voice notes to Rich Paul to send to LeBron. Voice notes.

But, like, he's. He needs to have something every day on this, right?

Some of the leading suitors for LeBron James, whether that's a Golden State, Cleveland, Miami, Minnesota, Philadelphia, some of them have been able to send a voice note to LeBron James via Rich Paul. So whether it's an owner, a president, or a general manager being able to Record a voice note, I'm told, send it to Rich Paul, and that makes its way to LeBron James. This is just a part of LeBron James process of studying as he makes the decision. And it's unclear whether Cleveland or Miami have been among the teams that have sent a Voice note to LeBron via Rich Paul. Again, they kind of don't need to. They already had him in their buildings in the recent past.

Like, did you hear the chuckling going on as Shams is trying to, like, be professional and just report this voice note, send them to me, and I'll make sure he gets them. Hang on a second. I can't talk to him.

Or are we all just like, hey, dude, just pick a team. Just pick a team?

So that's why it's like this. This feels like doing too much. And this is like, you've just been that guy. You just love doing this. You just want. You want to create this facade of this Being the big story, and the whole league is going to be gripped, and where's he going to go? The problem is everybody's like, man, whatever, just pick a team.

And that's why I hate it, too. I don't like it for him, but I have to say, he's just kind of being that guy right now.

What do you need to think about the media? Because we're the media, of course. NBA Today all over it. I'm sure Fox is doing specials. And when he makes his decision, are television networks and the media, do they truly believe this is still a big deal, or are they just kind of going through the motions here? Hey, it's LeBron James. It's the summer. There's a lot going on.

We don't want. We don't want to not cover it because he's still a big force in the league. Might be an owner one day. I'm not going to cut ties. Nobody around him is going to keep their job. If they put their arm around LeBron James, say, Listen, LeBron, nobody cares anymore. Do whatever the hell you want. Nobody cares. Right. They'll be fired instantaneously. Is he such a big name that it's just nobody's got the heart to say, dude, no one cares anymore.

Yeah. I just feel like. And listen, I don't blame him because I'm sure it's Tough to give up greatness and tough to give up. And he's probably got enough, yes people that he still believes it. But God, it feels like this ship has sailed. Am I in the minority?

[Peter]

No, no. The interest it is 100% waning. Obviously. We want to know when it happens. And when it happens, it'll be a news item and there'll be. And then when the year, depending where it is, will shape how big the news story becomes. For example, if he goes to Cleveland, I do not think it will be a huge deal. I think it'll be very expected. But then if Cleveland is what they've been the last couple of years and you see them playing really well, top three in these. As the year goes on, a lot of Saturday night Cleveland games, when they play the Lakers big, when they play Boston big, when they play the Knicks big, when they. So it will become a thing, especially if they're playing well and he's playing well. But yeah, overall right now he is that guy in that like this just doesn't have the judge. So, like you're making everyone wait. It was like, oh, is Rogers coming back to the Steelers again ever?

[Rosenberg]

Like, well, that's what happened. Come on. Rogers was never LeBron James, but he was the NFL's version LeBron. I mean, close. He. Listen, he's a surefire hall of Famer, great quarterback. And when he was going to the jets and was he going to retire, it was a big deal. Not just because we were in New York. People cared where Aaron Rodgers was going to go because he still had something left and he wanted to get that second title. And even going to Pittsburgh because it was the Steelers, there was something, but now it's. It's dead. Like, it doesn't matter.

[Peter]

Let me ask you a question, though. If you were to like, poll random, like non sports fans on the street, wow, is LeBron. Regardless of this, we all were on the same page. We all agree. Regardless of that, though, here's what's interesting. I think he's still the biggest athlete in the world.

Yes. Does he then, like. Because then, first of all, you. He would be. They probably have a statue of him already.

He's, you know, beloved. Is that when he just goes, you know what? Did my best. I'm done. Because, you know, he'd still probably live here, be revered, all that stuff. Because it happened at the beginning and then everything went to crap and, you know, then all the bad stuff started happening with him.

Like. And he's just blasting it. We're upstairs. So he was. And I said what are you doing? He's like, I was just trying to get you to come down and listen. So. But it came out great.

so mine was my, my thought was simple for the that guy.

The opposite of mine. So this is, this is a. My favorite, my favorite drop ever. So this is my. This is a very typical thing for a pet owner who lives in the city. You have interactions with, with other pet owners. You also have interactions with non pet owners that can be annoying.

[Don Hahn]

Yes.

[Peter]

So long story short, Bear is now minimum 15 and a half.

God bless him. And he's doing pretty good. He's amazing with the baby. You know, he's got his shortcomings that are challenging, but wonderful, wonderful animal. And I'm so blessed to have him. Still, taking him out of the apartment has gotten harder.

[Rosenberg]

He.

[Peter]

He's never in the mood to walk down the halls. You're kind of like dragging him or really waiting for a long time.

[Don Hahn]

He just wants to cuddle.

[Peter]

He gets out there and he just sits there and doesn't want to go. I don't know, maybe his sight got worse. So like walking down the hall makes him uncomfortable. He can't quite see what's going on. Who knows? He's old, but he went from being the fastest dog to take out ever to now. Each time it's a little bit more of a labor of love. And sometimes I just say screw it and pick him up and carry him outside, then lay him down out there. Once he's out there, he'll get to it. But, you know. So anyways, yesterday I'm leaving my building and when you walk out, not the front door, guys, you could take an elevator down and kind of go out like a back door that leads you to the parking garage and leads you to a street and out that door of the building, there's like an outdoor corridor. So you walk out that back door and now you're on cement. You're outside and there's a sky above you, but you're between the wall of the building on one side and sort of another wall of building on the other side. Alleyway it's an alleyway.

[Don Hahn]

Yeah.

[Peter]

So you're outside of the building, but you still. I still have to make it another 50ft to where I'm on the street. And he can go, right. So yesterday, we make it outside of those doors and make it, like, five feet. And he stops to poop.

[Don Hahn]

Mm.

[Peter]

And he stop. I go, okay. And a woman. I hear a woman coming up behind me, and I say, oh, I'm sorry. And I get out of her way as I'm picking it up, and she goes, you know, he shouldn't go here. And I went, oh, I. And I'm very. I have to tell you guys, I'm very calm in dealing with strangers, even if they're, like, aggressive off top. My first words will always be, she can't help herself.

[Don Hahn]

She had to say that.

[Peter]

So I go, oh. I said, ma', am, he's. He's 15 and a half. You know, he just didn't make it that far. And she's like, well, but he's not supposed to go here.

[Don Hahn]

Oh, boy.

[Peter]

I'm like. And I said to her. I said, miss, do you think I wanted him to go here? I just said, He's. He's almost 16 years old. I'm doing the best.

[Rosenberg]

He's incontinent.

[Peter]

I'm doing the absolute best that I can. Well, you don't have to embarrass him. I wouldn't go that far. I made it outside, for Christ's sake.

[Don Hahn]

I consider this a w. Yeah, that's good.

[Peter]

I'm doing the best. And. And then. And then she's like, well, you know, there are, like, bugs here because of stuff like that. Now, as Natalie pointed out later when I told the story, Natalie said, you know, bugs do come there because of that. That's because people take their dogs out and dogs pee there, and the pee will sit there, and bugs will come. Not because of poop that you pick up in a bag and go throw in the garbage.

[Don Hahn]

Yes.

[Peter]

And so after she said something the last time, I was like. And I just went, thank you for being obnoxious, though. I said, thank you so much. This was really obnoxious. I just.

[Anthony]

Who.

[Peter]

When do you. When do you become that person in life who scolds another adult who's not blatantly doing something that's affecting you? Like, yes. We all live in this place, and in a perfect world, you would not like for there to be dog poop in this alleyway. This is not affecting you enough where you need to say something. And certainly with an attitude to another adult.

[Don Hahn]

Some people can't control it.

[Rosenberg]

Yes.

[Don Hahn]

They have no control over their ability to reason in a moment like that where they're just tired of it. They can't help it. They're busy bodies. I'm gonna let him know. All right? And that's when you just take the bag and you go, you want to take it to the street? Like, what are you gonna do?

[Peter]

Say Al's gotta go into the street.

[Rosenberg]

There's a condition. I don't know what it's like.

[Don Hahn]

Tell you what, you take it to the street. He's not gonna make it.

[Rosenberg]

I sometimes have it. I think we all have it at times where you just can't let things go. Like something is wrong and you feel like you gotta write it. Somebody did something wrong and you. You've got to let. You got to be the hero, right? You've got to do it. It's not even about hero. It's like, I've got to let that person. I just. You cannot let it go. Like she couldn't walk away and just let it go. She had to let you know even. But then not supposed to prove.

[Peter]

So when I respond and I go, I'm sorry. He didn't listen. I said, He's 15 and a half. I tried my best.

[Don Hahn]

She didn't care for your reason. She wanted you. She wanted the last word. And all she wanted you to say was, I'm so sorry. You're so right.

[Peter]

I think I did say sorry, but

[Don Hahn]

she didn't want to listen to any of the how old he is. And what she wanted to do is go out some other way. Don't go this way. That's all.

[Peter]

So that is that. That's my. That guy. Those are the worst people. People who just feel they gotta tell you that.

[Rosenberg]
