Don Hahn
Absolutely.
Rosenberg
Just very briefly in the Everyone on social media, well, particularly Twitter, I don't like. We shouldn't keep labeling all social media the same. It's not all equal. X is at this point the stupidest social media that exists on the planet. I mean my Instagram stuff is whatever, but Twitter is just every time I look at it, I'm dumber and less happy.
Don Hahn
Correct.
Rosenberg
A brilliant man named Stuntman Mike wrote Rosenberg. Don't use Vic and Brady in the same sentence. Vic was an awful qb, great athlete, Hertz, although average at best better QB than Vick. You need to pay attention. Context matters. We played a Dan Orlovsky clip where he was talking about who would look impressive just wearing shorts and chucking it around. No one was talking about Brady versus Vick in terms of all time quarterback status. What I'm saying is if you watch the two guys chuck it, you'd probably be more impressed watching Michael Vick. And if you don't remember that or you didn't pay enough attention to know how sick Michael Vick was as a talent, that's on you.
Alan Hahn
No, Terrific.
Rosenberg
No, it was the. He had the biggest arm in the NFL.
Don Hahn
So I found a Reddit that has the top 100 quarterbacks of all.
Rosenberg
Here we go.
Don Hahn
All right. Beware.
Rosenberg
This could be the rest of the show. Let's get into it.
Don Hahn
An NFL fan did this, and it did it only two months ago, so it's fairly recent.
Alan Hahn
Sure.
Don Hahn
So since the end of the last season. So it is a top 100 of the best all court. Now, again, it's subjective because it's one person's opinion, but, you know, I mean, there's.
Alan Hahn
There's some names.
Don Hahn
There's some names. Brady's at the top, which again, I don't know if we're talking about talent or we talking about just success and talent. So this feels like success and talent. And so Brady's at the top. Peyton, Montana, Unitis. Otto Graham at five, by the way. That's a choice.
Rosenberg
That's. That is.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Rosenberg
You're trying too hard, bro.
Don Hahn
You think so? Okay, well, let's.
Alan Hahn
Athletics could be one.
Don Hahn
Yeah. You know, you don't know. He could have said. I've seen with my own eyes. Right. Fav at six, Rogers at seven, Marino Young, and Sid Luckman, number 10. There's your top 10.
Alan Hahn
What are we doing?
Rosenberg
Let's stop.
Alan Hahn
We gotta stop now.
Don Hahn
I'm not going with rankings anymore. I'm just saying these are 100 guys. Let's throw them in a box.
Rosenberg
Who is the yo yo on Reddit that you just chose? This is crazy.
Don Hahn
It's just. I don't know. There's no name on it
Alan Hahn
either. If I had far of a Vera.
Rosenberg
Yeah, he has far carved directly ahead of Roger.
Don Hahn
I don't know if he's ranking. This is power ranked, or he might
Rosenberg
have been in alphabetical order. I'm not sure what he's doing.
Don Hahn
Okay, well, anyways, what I'm trying to get to is this, that I couldn't. I could care less where he's got ya. Tittle and Fran Tarkenton. Okay. All I know is they're there. I know Sonny Jurgensen's on this list. I know Van Brocklin's on this list. I know lamonica's on this list. Okay. You get what I'm saying? I know the names that should be on this list. And I'm looking at him saying they're all here. All of them Boomers on this list.
Alan Hahn
Sipe.
Don Hahn
All of them. Meredith. See him? He's there.
Alan Hahn
Dandy Don.
Don Hahn
And as I'm going through it, I'm saying, okay, Kirk Cousins got to be coming up at some point because I'm seeing now Matt Schaub and Andy Dalton,
Rosenberg
but this is the worst. Well, this list is insane, though.
Don Hahn
But don't worry about the ranking, man.
Rosenberg
But it.
Don Hahn
It's just people.
Rosenberg
Yeah, but we have to worry.
Don Hahn
They're all getting invitations. This is 100 people we're inviting to the party.
Rosenberg
But are you going to tell me in the end, Cousins wasn't invited?
Don Hahn
Cousins was invited.
Rosenberg
What number?
Don Hahn
Where do you think? Where would you put them? Since you think I'm crazy, I just
Alan Hahn
want to know what number.
Rosenberg
Can you humor me? What number was Max Schaub?
Don Hahn
Matt Schaub? I just saw his name a second ago.
Rosenberg
Was it. Was it. Was it 100 to 90?
Don Hahn
It was 71.
Rosenberg
Wow, that is extremely high.
Alan Hahn
I would think Cousins would be ranked.
Rosenberg
I would think then cousins 46.
Don Hahn
No.
Alan Hahn
62.
Don Hahn
No.
Rosenberg
Well, okay, what number?
Don Hahn
All right, 62 is Matt Hasselbeck, if
Alan Hahn
he did play in the Super Bowl.
Don Hahn
Look again, better than Matt Hassel. But this doesn't feel like a ranking. This feels like I am giving out 100 invitations. Yeah, and you're all getting one.
Alan Hahn
You know what this is, Alan? And I'm thinking of gave their top hundred players. They didn't rank them one through 100. No, these are the top 100.
Don Hahn
So don't look at this as this guy's better than that.
Alan Hahn
So I do have numbers next to them, though, so that there are numbers.
Rosenberg
What numbers? Cousins.
Don Hahn
Don doesn't want to guess. One more time. I love playing the guessing game.
Rosenberg
Don. Don, I'll tell you this.
Don Hahn
Justin Herbert comes up on the list after Cousins.
Alan Hahn
Okay, wait, which.
Don Hahn
Which I don't.
Rosenberg
I don't understand is at this point,
Don Hahn
Jared Goff comes up after Cousins. So I feel like this is just stream of consciousness. Think of quarterbacks and throw them on. On the list.
Alan Hahn
But where did they have Justin Herbert?
Don Hahn
Herbert is 84.
Alan Hahn
And cousins is ahead.
Don Hahn
Ahead of him. Steve Grogan is 85, by the way, and Jim McMahon's 86.
Rosenberg
Hit the drop. Let me find it.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that's true. Jim McMahon.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Rosenberg
We can't say the name Jim McMahon without doing it.
Don Hahn
I know. Like, Jim Plunkett and Doug Williams are 92.
Rosenberg
The moment the bear scotch McMahon.
Alan Hahn
So 82.
Rosenberg
Don, please.
Don Hahn
Cousins is 82.
Rosenberg
Don, please answer.
Don Hahn
Cousins. Yes, you're right. 82.
Rosenberg
Oh, it's 82.
Don Hahn
So he's 82. So he is on this list. Steve Deberg is, by the way, at 100. Andy Dalton's head of Joe Burrow. Why are we. Why are we. Why are we doing this? I'm telling you, this is not about ranking.
Alan Hahn
I'm just saying they have a number.
Don Hahn
If I'm putting a group, I know the number the number is so we know we got to 100. I'm not looking at it this way. You guys have to understand my mentality is. But then you can I think of 100 guys.
Rosenberg
But then you're the one saying, guess what number?
Don Hahn
So the number is fixated on it. So you're not irrelevant.
Alan Hahn
Like I said, The NHL gave their top 100 players. They just gave 100. Like they didn't number them. These are, these are the best 100.
Don Hahn
But the point I'm making is probably what this kid.
Alan Hahn
This kid.
Don Hahn
Are you 12? Are you.
Rosenberg
We have no idea.
Don Hahn
Don, he said autogram. Are you thinking of a hunt? Can you think of 100 quarterbacks before Kirk Cousins is someone you would put on the list? And as I'm looking at this list, there's like, he, he's. I guess he is.
Alan Hahn
Well, but I wouldn't deserves to be in the hundred.
Don Hahn
All right. If I gave it. So because of the ranking thing, you guys are so fixated on the guys that are listed after him. I would put ahead of him.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Hahn
Guys like Deberg, guys like even Ryan Tannehill. Guys like Plunkett, Doug Williams, Jared Goff, Brunel, Ken o', Brien, who was prolific, by the way.
Rosenberg
Doug Williams ahead of who Now Kirk
Don Hahn
on the list ahead of Kurt Andrew Luck and Michael Vick are right behind him. All right, so this is.
Rosenberg
It's not so that's why when I'm
Don Hahn
thinking of quarterbacks, I don't know if I'm putting Kirk Cousins before I'm putting these guys on the list that I just named to you that are after him.
Alan Hahn
I.
Don Hahn
That's why I think he's pretty close to 100, if not 98 or 99.
Alan Hahn
There's. There's, to me, three.
Don Hahn
But he's made a ton of money and God bless him.
Alan Hahn
All right, there's like, there's different categories of quarterbacks.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Alan Hahn
There's elite.
Don Hahn
Yep.
Alan Hahn
Which means there's no question everybody would agree this is a great quarterback.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
On his way to the hall of Fame.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
Then there's that rung below where you're very good on the right team, right circumstances, you could win. Then on the back end, you've got bad quarterbacks, injury prone quarterback. But somewhere in the middle, there's value. That Third rung of guys that's, hey, he's always healthy, he's always prepared, can play any system and could put up numbers if the circumstances are right. And Kirk Cousins falls into that category. Plus, he seems to become a free agent at a time where multiple teams need quarterbacks and he gets paid. See people get caught up in the money. There was a time Eli Manning was the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. There was a time that Ryan, Matt Ryan was the highest paid quarterback in the NFL. That doesn't mean you're the best. It just means you, you were a free agent at the right time. And Kirk Cousins has always had that ability because he's durable, he can play any system, and if I just need a guy, he could do it. That adds value. It does.
Don Hahn
I agree.
Alan Hahn
You know what? If you got Kirk Cousins your quarterback, it shouldn't blow up because of him. And I think that there's value to that. Now. He'll never be elite. He's not going to lead you to a championship. But if I need a quarterback to win me a few games, sneak me into the playoffs, not embarrass me.
Rosenberg
No, you're. You're understating Kirk Cousins.
Don Hahn
You think he's, you think he's that good?
Rosenberg
I think he's better than what Don just said. At his best. At his best. On, like, I've gotten to watch Kirk Cousins have games where he's absolutely lights out. Like, where he's not. You're describing him. I'm not saying you're crazy for your description because history says you're basically right. But what I'm saying is he's not a game manager. Like, when he's smoking, he said that he went. But like, that's kind of the, the way you're describing, and it feels that way. There are times when he's straight up an asset and he's going off.
Don Hahn
I think he's. I think he's a top processor of the game. I think he's that. I just don't know if he is. If he really has all the physical tools, but he is a top process.
Rosenberg
I think he has the physical tools. Well, he doesn't have a huge arm.
Don Hahn
No, he doesn't. And he's not very. He's. He's sneaky athletic, but he's not very athletic.
Rosenberg
No, he's not super duper mobile either. But it's. It's more like sometimes he has mental errors.
Alan Hahn
Honestly, he had a monster year in 16 with the commanders. They're probably the Redskins at The time they were through almost 5,000 yards but just 25 touchdowns and 12 picks.
Rosenberg
Rocking off of another whatchamacallit, getting the max money possible a couple of times
Alan Hahn
he threw the part that gets you 30, 35 touchdowns. 33. But he's, he's had double digit interception meaning he's thrown 298 touchdown passes and 131 interceptions. Like that's a good number. No, he, he has the ability in moments in seasons. But it's not like I want to win a Super Bowl, I got to go get Kirk Cousins. But if I need to win some games, if I need to have a good season, I mean at this stage of his career, you know, that ship sailed, him throwing for 5,000 yards and 30 touchdowns. But all makes sense why he makes so much money, why he always has a job in a league where you joke during the Kaepernick time where anybody with at least one arm was backing up somewhere in the NFL.
Don Hahn
By the way, he's not on this. And I, I'd put him on this list. Colin Kaepernick, when he was healthy was really good. Oh yeah, Yeah. I don't see him.
Alan Hahn
Listen, Super Bowl.
Rosenberg
Yeah, not only that, not only that smoked Aaron Rodgers in the playoffs.
Don Hahn
No, no, he again, really like that's a talent that should be here and is not. I mean luck was short lived, but he should be on, he's obviously on this list. Well, this list, you know, Vick was short lived. He's, he's on this list. Well, you know, he should be on this list. So you're taking someone out as we'll play the who you taking out game. But I don't know, like, look, didn't want to turn this into a big thing, but I, I just look at him, I marvel more at the fact that he was able to turn 11 straight years of guaranteed contracts in a league where guys are begging for them, can't ever get them. He gets them handed to him year after year. And I wouldn't put him in the category of one of the game's all time elites. I wouldn't do it. So God bless him for getting it done.
Rosenberg
It's impressive.
Alan Hahn
But he's still finding a job.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
At the age of, you know, 38 years old, you know, still getting it done. Because listen, we've got a quarterback problem in this league. You desperately need one to be competitive and there's not 32 good ones in the league. So the fact that a 38 year old who's clearly at the end of his career can still land a job. Tells you there's just not a lot of great quarterbacks. That's why you get a situation like he did last year in Indianapolis where Philip Rivers, you know, at the age of 43, whatever. Can go out there and actually look halfway decent. Well.
Don Hahn
Well, I don't have to survive.
Alan Hahn
Hey, he was halfway decent for what, 43, getting off the couch, hadn't played. No. In how long?
Rosenberg
I hear what you're saying.
Alan Hahn
Pretty decent. He was pretty decent.
Don Hahn
He did okay.
Rosenberg
I think you. I feel bad because you're going to think I'm like trying to jump you on everything you're saying. I'm not. No, I'm not. He wasn't halfway like until you saw him throw. Not even. Because he looked like a fat schlub. But then when he threw, Don, it looked like his arm didn't work. He could not make like. I didn't see one crisp ball leave his arm. Did you, Allen? There wasn't one crisp ball.
Don Hahn
Yeah, I don't know how I'm going to phrase that, but I would just say that.
Rosenberg
Excuse me.
Don Hahn
It was like, crisp pass.
Rosenberg
Did you see a crisp pass?
Don Hahn
He physically looked like a guy that came off the couch and is sort of trying to make it work. Physically, he definitely looked.
Rosenberg
But your point remains, Don. The fact that they had to go there, it also shows they're morons too, because there have been other people who I think were still capable of throwing the football better than an out of shape Philip Rivers, and they were not interested.
Don Hahn
Yeah, they wanted. They wanted to really hope that his brain was still there as far as like processing and understanding his system. And he knew the system because he obviously had a relationship with the coach. So it felt like that late in the year, a more seamless move to make.
Rosenberg
But two years just. I just want to remind everyone, two years after Colin Kaepernick was. No, maybe three years after he was in a Super bowl, they were like, sorry, it's gone too long. He'll never be able to play.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Rosenberg
And then they were like, Philip Rivers.
Don Hahn
It was more about that.
Rosenberg
Oh, we know. I know. I just. And, and Alan, I'm.
Don Hahn
They didn't want to deal with everything.
Rosenberg
Exactly. It was just the plausible deniability that he wasn't able to be a backup that made me irate.
Don Hahn
Well, he didn't want that for.
Rosenberg
At first, but then he just wanted
Alan Hahn
to be in the league.
Don Hahn
He was like, yeah, they're like. And then. Yeah. And then too far gone. Yeah. We all. We all know what that story's about.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but again I listen, it's the semantics what I say. How did I describe him again? Pretty decent.
Don Hahn
Yeah, right.
Alan Hahn
I'm just looked. I'm trying to. I'm trying to get the game log.
Rosenberg
Oh, no, you don't want to see them.
Alan Hahn
No. But in three games.
Rosenberg
Go ahead.
Alan Hahn
Completed 63% of his passes, 544 yards, four touchdowns, three interceptions. It's pretty decent.
Rosenberg
It doesn't tell the full story, but I hear what you're saying because when I watch.
Alan Hahn
43 years old, hadn't played in six years and he threw four touchdown passes.
Rosenberg
I'm 46, was never in the league. I think I would have done better.
Alan Hahn
We just wondered if they'd be able to. We. He was drafted second overall. Zach Wilson. He couldn't throw. He couldn't throw a screen pass.
Don Hahn
No, it was really.
Rosenberg
He struggled with the screen.
Alan Hahn
43 years old, he threw it.
Don Hahn
Football coach, remember he threw it at Garrett's shoes.
Rosenberg
He really struggled.
Don Hahn
It was a breeze. He threw it at someone's shoes one time and all it was was a simple. Just dump off screen.
Alan Hahn
What was that movie? The. The Rookie.
Don Hahn
Yeah, yeah. With what's his name.
Alan Hahn
There's the brothers. There's the good looking one and the wacky one.
Don Hahn
Exactly. He was the good looking brother.
Alan Hahn
And yeah, he plays for the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. And they discover him at 48.
Don Hahn
He was a high school. He was a high school coach and all of a sudden he's just throwing gas.
Alan Hahn
It's the. Philip Rivers was like that level man, around the same age, hadn't played in six years. Difference is that the other kid, the other guy never played at all. But the point is people are trying to kill you. And again, Peter, it looked awful. It would look sad. But even in sadness, in people trying to kill you. He threw more touchdowns than interceptions. Do you know how many quarterbacks we've seen that are young and fit and 100 times more capable not be able to do that? How many times Jeff fans were like, wow, imagine if Zach Wilson could complete 63% of his passes. Throw more touchdowns than interceptions. We were just asking the Allen that could complete a screen pass.
Rosenberg
It couldn't do.
Don Hahn
Was so hard to watch, guys. It really the whole.
Alan Hahn
But we have him coming back to the huddle going like, I know you're
Don Hahn
open, I just can't see you. Like, well, that's not good.
Alan Hahn
Where it is the most important position in your sport and there's just not enough of them.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And not even close.
Don Hahn
Yeah, Think about it. In hockey, if you didn't have enough goalies to a point where you had to like, like some teams in the league knew this guy doesn't belong in the league or is a glorified backup, but we have nothing better. So he's got to be our. Our starting goalie. And therefore your team has no chance to win unless they just can score five, six goals a game. Because this guy's just. He's getting lit up left and right, and there's nothing you can do about it. If there was a shortage of goalies in the NHL, it would stand out probably more than the shortage of quarterbacks in the NFL.
Alan Hahn
However, I could. I could give you a history of teams that won cups in spite of their goal.
Don Hahn
Totally true.
Alan Hahn
You can't do that in the NFL. How many times have you said, oh, team won a Super bowl in spite of. Of their quarterback? Well, we're talking about Jalen Hurts as a guy that's not elite, but he contributed to those championships. He played well in the Super Bowl. He won an mvp. You know how hard it is to do anything without getting at least better than average quarterback play.
Don Hahn
Yeah. In the modern game, too, You've got none chance in the, in the modern game, too, Don. Right. Like you could get like, the Ravens won a Super bowl, the Bucks won a Super bowl without a elite level quarterback. I don't think.
Alan Hahn
20 something years.
Don Hahn
Right. That's what I mean. I think, I don't think in the last 15, going back to 2010, I defy you to tell me the team that won despite the fact that they had like a mediocre quarter.
Alan Hahn
And you wonder, though, guys, you're starting to see the rise of the running back again. Giants might actually take a running back at five this year. You're starting to see some of these running backs get paid. McCaffrey got paid, certainly, you know, in Philadelphia, they paid Barkley. Or is the NFL finally recognizing, hey, maybe we can't be the passing league we want to be if we don't have any quarterbacks. And we got to try to figure out other ways to win because I just can't throw away my season because I'm searching for the quarterback. I got to find a way to see if I can jimmy switch this whole thing. Find the cheat code. Right. Square, square X. Square X. To get the. To get the cannon in Vice City or whatever so that I could figure out a way to win a football game with my quarterback not being involved.
Don Hahn
Right, right.
Alan Hahn
They tried it with a wildcat. But even that's 20 years ago.
Rosenberg
Wow.
Alan Hahn
Well, this was quite the baseball conversation, I'll tell you that.
Rosenberg
Well, yeah, we really. I know we haven't really hit the
Alan Hahn
baseball because Soto's on the il and stop score runs without him. And Yankee fans like listening to K today just not in general. Not happy what with having the best record in baseball.
Don Hahn
Not happy with the team going by
Alan Hahn
the calls, complaining about Boone about boom, the bullpen.
Don Hahn
Well the bull look all right, we'll get. I have plenty to say about this.
Rosenberg
All right.
Alan Hahn
Love it. So baseball, we'll get some calls in at 1-800-919-3776. Don on a Rosenberg take you up until 6:30 on ESPN New York.

an interesting because no one has their coats anymore. We put them all away. It's spray. I get it. It packed away your coats. God forbid we could put a jacket on.
Alan Hahn
It's a rug.
Rosenberg
Yeah, it's not right.
Alan Hahn
I get it. You buy tickets for a night game in April. You shouldn't be shocked that it's going to be cold. But tomorrow's forecast for Flushing.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Is a low of 31 with 22 mile per hour winds. It's baseball, it's not football.
Don Hahn
The winter we had, that feels Like a nice day.
Alan Hahn
But I don't know. You're paying these players a lot of money. You need them out there in, you know, 30 degree weather with 22 degrees wind chill is probably going to be in the 20s.
Don Hahn
No, no. First of all, I'm being sarcastic.
Alan Hahn
No, but I'm not.
Rosenberg
It depends. It depends on. It depends on a playoff game.
Don Hahn
Like it's just a game.
Rosenberg
I get it.
Don Hahn
I can move it to get to. At least you have decent temperatures before the game's over. Fine. It sucks for those who, you know, that's the thing.
Rosenberg
It sucks for.
Don Hahn
You bought tickets.
Rosenberg
You know, the whole people who pay the salaries for the players. It stings for them because you make plans and it's not. I don't know what adults. It's easy for to go at 3 o'.
Alan Hahn
Clock.
Rosenberg
You know, the day before I found out the game is no longer a 7:30, it's a 3:30 now. At least they had a full day. So you can just decide you're not going right. And, and, and you'll be able to get out of it. But God, also the wussification of America. Is it, is it literally going to be in the 20s, Don, or is it going to be 40 again?
Alan Hahn
The low. Low, I guess. You know, it's supposed to be like a high of 45. Low with 31 with 22 mile per hour winds.
Don Hahn
The wind part is.
Alan Hahn
So I go to a football game. It's once a week. All right. You kind of expect that that's gonna be, you know, the weather. I get it. You mentioned the wussification. I just, I'm not gonna go right. I mean, if I'm a season ticket holder, I'll sell my tickets or whatever. I'm not gonna go this tomorrow night. You're talking people. This is tomorrow night and Wednesday night. Now, Wednesday, it's supposed to be like a lower 35. Wind's supposed to be like 12 miles per hour. Like you said, we've seen the first
Don Hahn
series games for seven. For seven o'.
Rosenberg
Clock.
Don Hahn
First pitch. You're talking about 43 degrees and windy. If we're going to play two hours of baseball, it'll be 38 by the time the game's over tomorrow. That's that, that's what we've got here. The, the official actual feels like. All right, that's different story because feels like the. Feels like at first pitch is 29.
Alan Hahn
Come on.
Don Hahn
And by the time the game's over, it'll be 23.
Rosenberg
So the wind.
Don Hahn
The wind is what the story is here, but to be clear, night right
Alan Hahn
now, so now you got the fans, but you also have the players. Like do the players want to be able to play in those types of conditions? All right, now I'm sure I shouldn't say I'm sure I would guess that the Mets probably were in touch with some of their season ticket holders because that's obviously who you care about the most, right? These are the people that have invested.
Don Hahn
You say this a lot, Doc. How does a team get in touch with season ticket holders? How do they do this? Is there a panel, is there like a committee of season ticket holders that they reach? And I'm not, I'm not trying to be, I'm not doing, I'm not trying to be that guy. I'm seriously curious.
Alan Hahn
Well, I'm going to tell you, all right, I was a partial season ticket holder, but that was like a decade ago with the Mets.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
I through the Devils was able to get tickets for the first time. Montreal came to the Rock for Nancy, Jaylyn and Marco. All right, so that was back in October or November, I think was like November 6th. Nancy still gets emails from the Devils about, you know, come back to the Rock. We've got this special, we got that special. Once you buy tickets, they've got your email. So if you're a season ticket holder, I'm sure they've got even more than just an email. They might have a phone call, a number and maybe call and just say, if we move the game to 4 o', clock, would you be in favor or not in favor? If 80% of them say, yeah, I'd love it. Be warmer out. Remember a lot of these people, the, they open the doors two hours before first pitch.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
So there's a lot of people that if it's a normal day, they'll be there at 5 o', clock, watch batting practice, walk around the concourse, get something to eat.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
So the game gets shifted to four and they were going to probably go at five o' clock anyway. It's not that big of a difference. Plus there might be some people say, no, I was going to get there at first pitch. I can't do it. But there might be other people who go, heck, I wasn't going to go because it was going to be seven o'. Clock. But now I'll go with it being at 4. It's probably not that big of a difference. Peter. What I'm surprised about is that the, it's one of those rare times where the Yankees are also Home. The Yankees, as of right now, have not changed the time. Really could be warmer in the Bronx. Like, so it's interesting that one team decided to do this, the other team didn't. Now you might say, well, Yankees probably have more of a presale. Maybe their fans don't want it shifting. Both are garbage games, right? Mets are picking on the Diamondbacks. That's nothing. And the Yankees are taking on the Ace. That's nothing. So it's not like the Red Sox are in town and they don't want to mess around with it. I just found it interesting. I'm not criticizing because to Peter's point, you could rip the Mets for doing it. You could rip the Yankees for not doing it. But I just found it interesting how the Mets could decide to do something and in the same city, what are they, seven, eight miles apart from each other?
Don Hahn
Literally the same temperature. Yeah, same temperature, same feels like so is the difference.
Rosenberg
So are the Yankees going to be the real bad guys and try to hang on for as long as possible to see if maybe the weather changes and then make a decision to do it later, making it even more annoying for fans?
Don Hahn
Yeah, they only. They only postpone after you bought your parking tickets.
Rosenberg
That's what they say. They're going to wait.
Don Hahn
They would never make a game earlier.
Rosenberg
They're fresh off of yesterday, of ruining people's Easter yesterday.
Alan Hahn
Delaying a game for three and a
Rosenberg
half hours till five o'. Clock. So now your whole Easter is gone. So they'll probably hang on for dear life, Don. And wait till tomorrow.
Alan Hahn
Tomorrow.
Rosenberg
And then when everyone's in, they'll make the change.
Alan Hahn
This is why Rob Manford just drives me crazy. All right. And you got full blown interleague play now, right? So the Yankees are playing the Marlins. They've got to wait on that game, Peter, because they don't play the Marlins all the time. The Marlins only come in once. Why is opening day in April where there could be inclement weather, games postponed, games delayed, that you're taking on the Marlins that early if it's, if it's a divisional game, it's like they could have postponed that game, play a double header later. Blue Jays will come in again, Rays will come in again, Orioles will come in again, Red Sox will come in again. But they put these, these interleague games in early April where now they got to make people wait four hours in their own stink, wait for a freaking game because the Marlins aren't coming back. So can't you put these games where you when our team's only in once. Think about it. They've got the Marlins in and then the A's are in. They only come to New York once. So why aren't you loading up the visual games early and late where weather can be a problem.
Don Hahn
Well, you get divisional games late. You do get divisional games in excitement
Alan Hahn
and you're all pumped up. Although because of interleague play. Allen, you can't have divisional games full blown because again, everybody's got to play. Right, because of the odd number of teams in each league. But why are you playing the Marlins and the A's back to back in April where you're going to have the possibility of cold weather, postponed games, rain, snow, possibly. You know, back in the day when we were kids, you'd play everybody multiple times. They'd come to the Mets would have to go out to LA twice to play the Dodgers. But now you've got 30 teams and now you've got interleague play. So why would you schedule Yankees, Marlins in April, Yankees A's in April. Well, now you have to wait, Peter, to your point, all day because you don't want to postpone that yet because the Marlins aren't coming back. Right?
Don Hahn
You have to play them. Exactly.
Alan Hahn
God, it's an easy fix, man. Well, use their brains.
Don Hahn
The bigger part, the bigger part of the story, aside from what the Yankees did, is you telling me that nine games into the season were already complaining
Alan Hahn
because there were two games yesterday and again earlier when they lost to Seattle
Don Hahn
where Aaron, Seattle game was an extra innings game, wasn't it? Or bottom of the night, at least
Alan Hahn
there were decisions made. Because hey, you're in it for the long haul, right? You're not going to be taxing your starting pitchers. You're not going to be using your closer every single day, right? Because hey, it's about winning series. But these fans want to win every single game. Go 162 0. You can't analyze it every single day like that to a fine tooth comb. The fact is they're 7:2. They're right now running away with the division. It's still early, I get it. But you're off to a phenomenal start. I don't know why you just can't appreciate. I think most fans do. But like listening to Michael Show. I was preparing for the show, listening to Michael Show. And why did Boone do this? Why are they doing that? Why? You know, infield's been a problem, bullpen needs to be. But God, you're seven and two. You can't possibly win every game that you play. The 27 Yankees and the 98 Yankees did not win every game. 142 games in 98. Do the math, Peter. How many losses is that? 162.
Rosenberg
Not six and one, but six and one.
Don Hahn
Here's the thing. If you. If you are following this team and you know yourself as a Yankees fan, Ryan McMahon, you already know what you're getting. Any. Any thought that he was going to have a Scott Brocius year for you, let it go, okay? He's giving you elite defense at the corner. That's what you're getting. You're getting run prevention. You're not getting. Like, anything he does with the bat is a plus, but you're not getting that. So don't expect it to a point that you're starting to get mad at the bottom of the order. Caballero, a little surprise. All right, Little surprise. I thought you'd get a little more pop out of him. You know, Wells has had a struggle at the beginning. You know, like, you know what he is. I don't understand it. Stanton is playing so well, so good. Looks good. That's a great thing. I don't think Judge has even gotten on. He hasn't even gotten caught yet. Like, Judge is not even on yet. And yet you still have seven wins in your first nine games. I don't know what the problem is. The bullpen, when you are getting to a point now where, look, in the beginning, you're going to use your guys regularly, you know, start to, like, figure out who your main guys are. Putting Jake Bird in a game yesterday was because you got nothing else. You got to play somebody. He continues to be the bad choice by. By Brian Cashman. Last year they thought they could turn him into something. He was out of gas last year. He looked decent in spring training and he did not look good at all. He still walks people too much. But what do you expect when your bullpen was taxed because you've played a couple of games, you've had a rain delay. There's things that happen in a baseball season where you got to go deeper into your bullpen than you want to. And then when you do, you realize teams, bullpens generally either are good at the beginning and fizzle out or aren't good. And that's the last. It's the last thing you work on before you become a championship team. And you know, in July, that's always where you can fix it. It's the easiest thing to fix, is getting an arm or two and just hoping that one of them just happens to be great. Bednar's been really good.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, he's been good. He's not like what? But he's been good.
Don Hahn
No, but.
Alan Hahn
But what?
Don Hahn
I just don't understand what is the complaint other than you know what, this team doesn't suck to watch. They aren't as boring to watch. They aren't as frustrating to watch. And you know, sometimes you're going to bring in a guy, you're going to see, you're going to see the name on the lower third when he comes in and you're going to go all right, well let's see if he's got it today. You don't know if he does or not. It's part of the roller coaster of deeper in your bullpen. But their starting pitching has been phenomenal. Freed was really good again.
Alan Hahn
He's been. And it's going to get better with Cole coming back and Rodin coming back and.
Don Hahn
And he's not.
Alan Hahn
I'm sorry.
Don Hahn
They're not going to shut everybody out. Like that's the other thing that I can't understand. So they get off to a hot start where they only give up one run. Right. And it's this becomes this dominant that those first two series when they came home, all the stats they were throwing at us and it's like wow, that's a nice start. If anyone believed that that was just going to keep going, stop it. They're going to give up runs. It happens.
Alan Hahn
And you know the Soto on the il but they've been scoring without him. I thought that was a nice bounce back after that loss in San Francisco to start the series.
Rosenberg
They won three row considering the season was victory yesterday considering Don the season among some fans felt like it was canceled by Thursday. Nice to have a good weekend and have a winning record come Monday.
Don Hahn
It was important though for them to give you. They had to get some offense. That is still a big. A big problem. Scoring runs is a big problem.
Alan Hahn
And the other thing that I think quietly it's happened it hasn't resulted necessarily in wins but I thought Kodai Senga's looked good. You know, pitching into the sixth inning back to back starts and you know, get him built back up.
Don Hahn
That's important.
Alan Hahn
Been the forgotten guy in the rotation.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Alan Hahn
Somebody that you thought might have been an ace going into last year and kind of an afterthought now with the call ups from last year and the acquisitions during the off season. But I mean if he can find himself anywhere close to when he first came to the States. You know, pretty good stuff out of the Mets as well.

let's hear from you. 1-800-919-3776. Take up until 6:30. At that point, we're going to be handing off to our coverage of the Knicks and the Hawks. Game's not nothing. That's a big game. Knicks want to make sure they finish at least the three seed twos. Looks like it's that ship sailed with Boston getting the 2 seed. But the Knicks don't want to drop the 4, maybe have to face Atlanta in the postseason. That's not the kind of prize you want to get for the season that they had for sure. So we'll see if they can get off the mat. What are you doing pre and post, right, Allen? Yes.
Rosenberg
Oh, no.
Alan Hahn
All right, let's go to the phones. Don, in the car. You're on espn. Hey, Don. Hey, Don. How you doing? How you guys doing? Good, man. So, bud, Fantastic. So this whole thing about, you know, playing in this kind of weather, I mean, you sign up for it, you know, if this is a World Series game, it's not going to be moved. So I don't understand why, why they would have to move a game. Yes, Grant, I know it's April. Doesn't really matter his games. I can do anything for the Mets at all. However. But if this is the World Series, you're not moving that game from, you know, 8 o' clock to like 6 or 5. Well, you're not going to do it because television wouldn't let you do it. Fox would be like, no, you're not moving the game. But I think if this were a World Series game, could the game possibly be postponed? I mean, a windshield factor of 29 degrees is not an ideal way to decide a World Series baseball game. I mean, it's baseball. It's not football. It does compromise the play. You do have a chance to get hurt. I mean, you have the chance to do it. Why not do it right? Have your fans be a little bit more comfortable.
Rosenberg
Listen, I was the first one complaining about it and thinking it's lame and thank you for the call, Don, but when you start getting down to the 20s, like to me now, we're okay. That's reasonable. Now, Don, if you had told me the low was going to be 40 and it was like regular wind at 40 degrees, I'd say, hey, you buy a ticket for April Baseball. It is what it is. You're talking about the lows and with the feels like being in the 20s, that's guys. Also from a player standpoint making contact with the baseball when it's 20 degrees outside, it's, this is just not good. So it is what it is, but
Alan Hahn
you have the chance to move it. Yes. Some people are going to be aggravated and not be able to go. Some people might be like, hey, I wasn't going to be able to go, but now I can go to the game. I just, I think you could be playing in front of an empty building. Players are going to be miserable. 22 mile per hour winds and Nancy, I always have this conversation. What's the temperature? Our temperature is 45, but the feel like is really what the temperature is because it wasn't matter what the temperature is.
Don Hahn
It's what it feels like with the wind going.
Alan Hahn
So if the Temperature says it's 38, but it feels like 29, then guess what, it's 29 now. The Yankees decided not to do it. They probably have more tickets sold for. All I know is they got in touch with their season ticket holders and they're like, no, we're good. But I just found it interesting that two play the same sport, same kind of matchup, same city, both have two completely different takes on it.
Don Hahn
It's again, it's the old conversation of we built two new ballparks here in 20 and 2009, and neither one of them thought, hey, let's put a roof on it.
Alan Hahn
It was stupid. I know it's expired, I know it's a lot more expensive and all that,
Don Hahn
but everybody else, you see Safeco, how come? How can it be done in other places? But here it's like, it's sacrilegious again. Think about it, the new stuff, MetLife and those two ballparks. And no one thought, I'll be the one that puts a dome so I can do other things through the winter that no one else can.
Alan Hahn
And you make your fans sit there for hours on end, wait for games. It just, it's. Yeah, right.
Don Hahn
So yesterday doesn't happen at Yankee Stadium if we just think of a creative way to keep it still looking like Yankee Stadium, the facade, the whole thing, and yet have a way to just cover the thing so that if it's raining, we're not sitting around for three hours.
Alan Hahn
I just find it interesting. Baseball's got to keep it old timey. Meanwhile, in every other sport, right? Like when they built that gorgeous stadium in Minnesota for the Vikings, they didn't go. Let's try to make it look as much like the old stadium as possible. Let's make sure it looks like the Metrodome.
Don Hahn
We don't want that because that's old school.
Alan Hahn
Let's play it outside like they did. Let's honor Bud Gray and make it look like it. No, they said, let's build a beautiful, gorgeous facility that embarrasses MetLife to the point that I'm surprised ownership doesn't cry every night before they go to bed saying, I can't believe I said $6 billion on venetian blind.
Don Hahn
Think about it. Think about it. Where's the Final Four?
Rosenberg
That's it. That would be at the field house in Indianapolis.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Lucas Oil Stadium.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Who plays in that stadium?
Alan Hahn
That'd be your Indianapolis Colts. Yeah.
Don Hahn
How much money do you think that they are pulling in every time they host a Final Four? Is that a city everybody's dying to go to? No, but they have a.
Rosenberg
Have I mentioned the shrimp?
Don Hahn
Huge. That's a fair point. Huge facility that they could house this thing in. And in New York, they were like, we're all set. We don't want to pay the extra because we'll never make that money back. It's moronic. But again, we do this every spring with the baseball teams when the weather becomes a factor up until about the end of April, early May, then it goes away until it rains. But it still goes back to these bonehead decisions that were made that we all have to live with because others decided, no, I'll never make that money back. Which I.
Alan Hahn
How. I think you would. Because you know what? There's nights where there's 10,000 people in the stands, and you would have 50.
Don Hahn
There you go.
Alan Hahn
If you had a. Don't. Christopher in Brooklyn. You're on espn, New York. Hey, guys.
Don Hahn
Hey.
Alan Hahn
Happy Monday, guys.
Don Hahn
Happy Monday.
Alan Hahn
Hey, guys. Hey, Alan, Question. How do you feel about Stephen A. Smith this morning going after Mike Green? Or for what my Green said on Friday night about the Knicks and what they went from being. Yeah. Like when they went from being bad.
Don Hahn
I'm aware of what. I'm aware of what Mike Breen said. And. And I.
Alan Hahn
Because I. I agree with him. We came a long, long way.
Don Hahn
Yeah. We lose that. What Mike was. I think what Mike was trying to say was not to take. I don't think Mike Breen's trying to say, hey, it doesn't matter if they win or lose.
Alan Hahn
No, no.
Don Hahn
There's no chance he's doing.
Alan Hahn
No, not Mike. I'm talking about what Stephen A. Smith.
Don Hahn
I know. I'm getting to it. So Stephen A. Then, you know, goes after him about it, and I. I don't Think like that's, that's not the, that's not the target that you want in your crosshairs. Stephen A. That's not the guy you're going at. Because we all know Mike Breen and his history with the organization. And also as the voice of the NBA. If anybody understands it, any, any, no one understands it more than he does. That there's two things that you have here. There's, number one, the ambition that continues every year to advance the cause to a point where you can finally put an end to what has been 50 plus years of not winning a championship and a long time, 25 since getting to the NBA Finals, just getting there. So we all know that's the. We all know that's the goal. We all know that's the ambition. We all know that's what they want. But there also has to come a time where in the midst of all this anxiety, you stop for a moment ago. How great is this that we have the privilege of this anxiety? We have the privilege of sitting here talking about chasing a championship legitimately and not have people giggle at you like, yeah, that's cute. Like, a couple of years ago, the Knicks beat, won a playoff game against the Hawks and they flooded 7th Avenue. Why? Because it had been so long since they saw a playoff game. 1. And the league made fun of you for it because you don't win. So you don't know what it's like to win. But now, a couple of years later, you're in a place now where you know what it is to win to a point where you're demanding it. And that's what Mike Breen was trying to say. Think for a minute with all the frustration you have and the criticisms of the roster and all this stuff that Leon Rose, William Wesley, James Dolan, and put Tom Thibodeau in the conversation because he needs to be in that conversation. Created something that puts you in a position now where you have the audacity to be mad at your team because people aren't saying they're a championship contender, but yet the statistics tell you, you absolutely are. This is going to be one of the great statistical seasons in franchise history. Understand that. So while, yes, the goal is to do more, I get it. But Nick fans, you know, you become, you become Yankee fans where nothing's good enough until we get to the postseason and they do the whole win the whole thing. Thing. Think about where you've become. You've gone from being a Jets fan who were just happy to win a damn to make the playoffs, and in five years you've become a Yankees fan where only winning the championship is good enough. That's a pretty freaking good place to be, I gotta be honest. And so all Mike Breen was trying to say is let's not lose sight of the fact of where this franchise has come from and where it is right now with the ability to win. And by the way, if you're paying attention in Milwaukee, the Greeks getting restless. That'll be a big story this summer if they can't get there this year. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.

Date: April 6, 2026
Hosts: Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg, Don La Greca
Episode Focus: Football debates (Reddit’s top-100 QBs), New York baseball in cold weather, evolving sports fan cultures, and some Knicks/ESPN discourse
The trio delivers a lively “sports bar” conversation, bouncing between a viral Reddit list of the NFL’s top 100 quarterbacks, how teams and fans deal with Major League Baseball’s frigid early-season games, and the ever-raised expectations of New York sports fans (with a Knicks segment). Throughout, you get authentic, rapid-fire debate, storytelling, and plenty of ribbing.
[01:28–20:26]
The List Revelation:
Don stirs the pot by referencing a recent Reddit post ranking the top 100 NFL quarterbacks, sparking a segment-long debate about the validity and utility of such lists.
Kirk Cousins’ Place in NFL History:
The panel focuses on Kirk Cousins’ ranking (eventually revealed as No. 82) and what it says about his reputation.
Kaepernick, Vick, Quarterback Scarcity:
Commentary on the NFL’s shortage of elite quarterbacks, referencing the aging Philip Rivers and the blackballing of Colin Kaepernick.
Analogies & Broader Points:
Alan makes NHL/NFL comparisons to emphasize just how dire the quarterback vacuum is, and how changes in offensive balance (the rise of the running back) might be NFL teams’ workaround in QB-starved times.
[24:18–32:46]
Game Time Changes for Cold, Angry Fans:
A lengthy breakdown of the Mets moving start times to earlier slots to avoid night-game arctic conditions, stirring debate about what fans deserve.
Fan Experience & Logistics:
How teams communicate with season ticket holders, and how these changes affect game attendance and overall satisfaction.
MLB Scheduling Critique:
Alan takes issue with the logic of scheduling rare interleague home games during April’s unpredictable weather.
[32:46–38:12]
Yankees: 7-2, Still Unhappy?
Despite the Yankees’ division-leading record, fans fill the airwaves with complaints—over bullpen management, the bottom of the order, etc.
Big-Picture Perspective:
The hosts urge fans to appreciate how far the team (and the city’s sports culture) has come.
Pitching Strengths & Outlook:
Praise for the Yankees’ pitching staff with promise of greater strength as a few arms return.
Mets’ Kodai Senga:
A brief aside gives credit to Senga’s solid growth, despite being a mid-rotation ‘forgotten man’ (Alan, 37:41).
[44:12–46:47]
