Peter Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Alan Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New
Don Hahn
York app, and your smart speakers.
Peter Rosenberg
How does it feel? It was big and ruins.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that's. That's.
Alan Hahn
Is that a reason to be in the Rock and Hall of Fame, though? A lot was done. Done. The 80s were a long, bad time.
Don Hahn
I admit. I admit I will be the first to Admit and I'm big 80s music guy. And there are a lot of new wa. You know, OMD, Depeche Mode, the Cure. Like there's a lot of really good new wave music. I don't get this.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I will say this.
Alan Hahn
Go ahead.
Peter Rosenberg
To put a sports perspective on it.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
The Rock and Roll hall of Fame and who they let in the equivalent would be. I know Gus Farot being a borderline hall of Famer.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
That's, that's.
Alan Hahn
It does feel like, you know, spit in your face. That is a. There are a few people.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm like, all right.
Alan Hahn
Really? That's a big. If you're going Gus Farat.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
That means that you're saying they don't belong.
Peter Rosenberg
I need a better cop. I want them over. I want to. I want to come up with a better cop sitting it.
Alan Hahn
Sit.
Rich Eisen
You stink.
Alan Hahn
So do you think.
Don Hahn
Is it Ed Morrow, how do you say.
Peter Rosenberg
Would be a Hall of Famer?
Don Hahn
Right? Like he, he was on the. The. He was most of the season quarterback the undefeated Dolphins. But you know, they put him in the hall of Fame because of that.
Caller
Right?
Don Hahn
Like Earl. Earl Morrow. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Earl Morrow.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
That's. That doesn't feel close enough to me either.
Peter Rosenberg
I got to come up with a better. Wait, wait. All right. There's got to be a better modern day comp.
Alan Hahn
Give me, give me a.
Peter Rosenberg
How about trying to think.
Alan Hahn
How about. How about Kevin Johnson of the Suns hall of Fame?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah. How about that? Bang.
Alan Hahn
Great player. Really, really great player.
Don Hahn
But I don't know.
Alan Hahn
A couple all stars.
Don Hahn
It's disrespectful to Kevin Johnson.
Peter Rosenberg
See?
Alan Hahn
So you think KJ is better.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but he's not a Hall of Fame.
Alan Hahn
Marley Thunderdam. Marley.
Peter Rosenberg
Very good.
Don Hahn
That's pretty good.
Alan Hahn
How about that? Because that's really. He's more famous from the video being a great player.
Don Hahn
Because Dan Marley as a son was Joy. Joy Division, then as a Heat was New Order. Yeah, but neither.
Peter Rosenberg
Neither one is.
Alan Hahn
You should go to the hall hit. But folks, well, this is why you're here on a Tuesday at 504. Because.
Peter Rosenberg
No, because what? They're heavy on the whole influence thing, right? Like you put Nirvana in the hall of Fame. Huge band. Right. But not much of a body of work.
Alan Hahn
So if.
Peter Rosenberg
If Nirvana were a basketball player, he played, you know, five, six really good years. And we would have been saying, what if they stayed healthy? He would be in the hall of Fame.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but it would have to be. They were literally the biggest player of the era. You know what I mean? Before they phase out.
Don Hahn
I think the thing with Joy Division really is that it set the stage for that sound, synth pop sound. And that's why you give them that credit. Because, well, they also from that it be got like, you know, Pet Shop Boys, you know.
Alan Hahn
Well, it also.
Don Hahn
And girls.
Alan Hahn
It also set. Boys and girls. It really set the table for game time, which is brought to you by teleporter Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, folks,
Peter Rosenberg
I like that.
Alan Hahn
It's totally time. Coverage of Mets Dodgers immediately follows Dan Grass on 880 at 9:30. Yankees continue their series with the Angels at 7:05. The Devils close out their season in Boston against the Bruins at 7. And the Islanders host the Hurricanes in their final game of the year at 7. Tullamore do the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Irish Whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore do or try the new Tullamore Dew Honey, during today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore do responsibly.
Don Hahn
So we've come to the end of the road.
Peter Rosenberg
Love that song.
Don Hahn
See, Don, don't be hearing that in his ears after the game's over. Just wiping away game 82.
Alan Hahn
Why do you make him Chris Rock saying it? Be calling me.
Peter Rosenberg
That's where I know all of a sudden I'm crack.
Alan Hahn
You're pooky now. He made you. You went from just listening to end of the road once in Boomerang to now you're. You've switched movies, you've gone back a couple years and you're smoking Crack. You're freebasing crack in New Jack.
Peter Rosenberg
What did I do there?
Caller
Calling me man. Calling me man.
Peter Rosenberg
You're the prom queen now. You're the prom fiend.
Caller
Drop.
Don Hahn
Such a good movie. Such a good movie.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, honestly, I said this to him. What? It's the best role he's ever played.
Rich Eisen
I see.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. No. Chris Rock.
Alan Hahn
Chris Rock. Oh, Chris Rock.
Peter Rosenberg
Chris Rock is Pookie. That's his best work. As in movies, obviously. His stand up is tremendous. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
No, you know, listen, he's had big movies, he starred in movies. But he wasn't the strongest actor. Whereas in that. It's a. It's a smaller part, but he's a really good act.
Peter Rosenberg
Outstanding.
Don Hahn
I thought, I thought in Dogma when He played the 13th apostle.
Alan Hahn
Totally forgot about that, man. I don't know. Long time and saw my accent.
Don Hahn
It's really good. Yeah, well, I mean now, now.
Alan Hahn
But I was, I wasn't hit you with another one. We just mentioned end of the road. Don't forget Chris Rock is in Boomerang and is hilarious as the guy in the mail room.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Alan Hahn
Yo, Marcus, he's. He's so funny, dude. Yeah, that is a. Another as the bit roll young Chris Rock was really. Man, it really makes me feel old to remember Chris rock from like 20 something bit roll guy to just like the biggest comedian in the world.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Let's talk to the people. Nick and Woodbridge been waiting to talk Nick's for a while. Nick, what's up, bro?
Peter Rosenberg
What up?
Caller
Hey guys, thank you for taking the call. I do have a comp that you guys were talking about with the Rock and Roll hall of Fame starting to kind of feel a little bit like Monument park for the Yankees where if you're notable and you're pretty damn good, not get into the big hall, but you're going to get your jersey retired. You know what perspective A lot of these bands, I don't even know who they are, if I'm being honest with you. But anyway, from a. From a Knicks perspective. Want to talk OG for me, he's the X factor. I think there was a stat Allen shared last week at The Knicks were 22 and 4 this year when he scored more than 20 points in a game. Yeah. So to me, I mean, you, you know, you're going to get with Jalen Bronson. They're going to throw all different types of looks at him, try to make him uncomfortable. He'll get his. I want to see Cat get involved early. But the X factor, if they're going to get through Atlanta and make a deep run. I do truly believe it's OG So I hope that ankle is good to go. And I'm excited. Man, I can't wait for playoff basketball. Let's go, Knicks.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's do it.
Don Hahn
It's a good call. And definitely Anunobi is always going to be an X factor. Like they asked us this morning on get up, you know, obviously Jalen Brunson, but who has to be like his. Like, who's got to be the best of the wingman? Like, who's that? Who's that next guy? And it's obviously Towns, right. And I think Brunson's the best player, but Towns might be the most important when it comes to whatever the Knicks are going to do in this playoff run. But Anunoby is the X factor almost that you take it for granted what he provides each series, because each series, you know what he's going to do. He's going to guard the other team's best player. And that's not easy to do. And on top of it, have to hit those corner threes at the. At the rate that he hits them at, which is, you know, some of the best in the league in the corner. So that's a guy you definitely want to keep an eye on. Now, the. The week off is helpful because he did roll the ankle. They said he was day to day, so he rolled it Friday. Didn't play in the second half Friday night, didn't play Sunday, but nobody played Sunday. And they had him at Day to day, but with a weak before he has to play again. Bodes well for him to be at 100% for game one on Saturday. So that's definitely a name to keep an eye on. And the matchups that he's going to have to handle from series to series.
Alan Hahn
Let's go to Wayne in North Carolina. What up, Wayne?
Caller
Hey, what's going on? What's going on? My bad. How you doing?
Peter Rosenberg
What's going on, guys? Peter, what's up?
Caller
And Alan, I want to apologize for Don. Last time I was on, I called him Ron.
Alan Hahn
We love. We love Ron. We love Ron.
Peter Rosenberg
I still have a bruise from that.
Don Hahn
It's a good moment, though.
Caller
Well, listen, maybe I'll be a 16 seed and y' all could put me up against a one Don Ransom.
Alan Hahn
Well, listen, Drop Madness is dead as a doornail, but it's a nice thought.
Don Hahn
Win, right? We got you, though.
Caller
Right? Right. I was thinking when we were talking about comps, the great players who don't seem to get their due with Mike Trout. I was thinking George Gervin, like the original big guard, the original, you know, scoring guard at that height, playing the guard position. And you never hear people mention.
Peter Rosenberg
I never heard anybody.
Caller
George Gervin. Right, right. The Iceman was crazy. When I was a kid, the poster with the sitting on the iceberg on the ice.
Don Hahn
On the ice throne. Yes.
Caller
Yes. That was crazy.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was a good one. Most of his career was in the aba, though, right, Alan?
Don Hahn
A lot of it was San Antonio, obviously, and with him, too. His biggest claim to fame that people remember most is his battle for the scoring title with David Thompson at the end of the season many years ago, where they. They both went crazy, like they knew how many points he needed to get. I think David Thompson went for 71. I think Iceman had, like, 66 in that last game of the regular season, trying to win the scoring title. That. That's, like the. The best and biggest, you know, George Gervin story that people like to tell. The legend, of course, but as a player, you know, the finger roll. Everybody talks about how just smooth he was as a player, but, yeah. Kind of obscurity when it comes to what market he played in.
Alan Hahn
Wayne and Charlotte. What's up, Wayne?
Caller
Hey, Pete. How you doing?
Peter Rosenberg
What's up, Ron Allen?
Don Hahn
Ron. Yeah, it's Ron Burgundy.
Alan Hahn
I'm Ron Burgundy. Steve, in Middle Village on the Rock and Roll hall of Fame. What's up, Steve?
Caller
Not just rock and roll, since you have such an interesting show. First off, Peter, you're absolutely right about Rock and Roll hall of Fame. Timeline is what you said. Really? I don't follow the Rock and Roll hall of Fame anymore, but, damn, I'm old enough to remember Chubby Checker. He should have been in there years before. I was a judge on an industry hall of Fame. And one guy who was an industry insider. Always use the same word. You have to, especially when it began. You have to have a timeline. And I got a couple other things. One other thing I want to mention that life give credit to the Yankees. Well, I call the new ballpark Macombsdam Park. They still call it Yankee Stadium. There's no corporate sponsorship. Yep. So,
Peter Rosenberg
any rate, guys, Madison Square Garden.
Don Hahn
Garden, too. The Garden doesn't.
Caller
Oh, yes, definitely.
Don Hahn
They won't sell it.
Caller
Without question. And how many Madison Square Gardens have there been? Three, I think.
Peter Rosenberg
I think technically 4.
Don Hahn
4.
Peter Rosenberg
There was the one in the late 1800s that was on Madison Avenue.
Don Hahn
That's the original one, which is where the what's the building? The one with the gold dome. Right. That's what they ended up putting there.
Caller
Oh, yes. I used to work on 26th Street. I'm retired now, and I used to go sometimes in the spring or summer to have lunch in the. In actually Madison Square, which was the old. Which is the park there.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Caller
Anyway, guys, thank you for everything you do. And I really look forward to watching on YouTube and using the. The ESPN app, even though I'm over 70 years old. Thanks a lot.
Alan Hahn
Thank you, buddy.
Peter Rosenberg
Appreciate you, Steve.
Alan Hahn
A lot of people over 70.
Don Hahn
Get out, Steve. Oh, no one has an excuse.
Alan Hahn
I mean, listen, I gotta say, I'm not even impressed. I mean. Yeah, but, like, my parents are pushing 80. My dad's on apps Galore, by the way.
Don Hahn
It's. It's literally just pressing.
Alan Hahn
That's what I'm. That's what I'm saying. I'm not exactly, like, you know, I win an award here. It's. It's. You know.
Don Hahn
But, hey, he made the effort.
Alan Hahn
We appreciate it.
Don Hahn
Absolutely.
Peter Rosenberg
The original. Original garden located just northeast of the actual square between 1879 and 1890.
Don Hahn
The Hippodrome.
Peter Rosenberg
Then the second garden was 1890 to 1925.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
That was the one that had a roof. Demolished.
Don Hahn
Yeah. That was a Stanford White vehicle, if I'm not mistaken.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. And then it obviously moved to 49th. Between 49th and 50th on 8th Avenue from 25 to 68, now the current place. So there were technically four gardens.
Don Hahn
You know the story about that second garden, because the first one didn't have a roof. It was just. It was just there was an open right thing in the middle, surrounded by walls. But the one. The second one, Stanford White, the architect, was murdered on the roof.
Caller
Oh.
Don Hahn
Because he had taken a. He had taken a. An affair with a married woman.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. I've heard about.
Peter Rosenberg
Back then, that was the equivalent of a killing spree.
Don Hahn
And the man didn't. The man didn't like it.
Peter Rosenberg
So he did.
Don Hahn
He. He did what back then was considered. Well, he was right to do, which is he just shot him in cold blood.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Legal at the time.
Peter Rosenberg
Crime of passion.
Don Hahn
Crime of passion, yeah. It's quite a story, though.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. It's not what you want.
Don Hahn
No.
Alan Hahn
Not an ideal for a nice movie.
Peter Rosenberg
I didn't see that picture when I go around the garden, you know, I.
Don Hahn
You don't see the picture of. There is actually an illustration that was in one of the newspapers, Harper's Bazaar, whatever that was back then. Of like. Like what it would have looked like. And it's literally like him sitting at it at a, at a restaurant with the woman and you know, the, the offended man holding a gun and firing it at him.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, I've seen Messier holding the cup and Larry Johnson's four point play. I've seen that.
Don Hahn
Haven't seen Stanford White being murdered?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I didn't. And I've been at every inch of the guard picture of Springsteen's.
Don Hahn
I mean, that picture's on the fourth floor.
Peter Rosenberg
Can I tell you this? I know this bothers a lot of people because he's very polarizing figure. Go ahead.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Having been now to every NHL arena, you know, you go through the bowels of the arena and they'll have pictures of obviously the hockey and basketball teams that play there and then famous artists that perform there.
Don Hahn
Sure.
Peter Rosenberg
Every single building has a picture of Bruce Springsteen.
Alan Hahn
Really? That's crazy. That's kind of telling about how viewed as big he is across like everywhere. That's interesting. All right, a couple of interesting things to play for you.
Peter Rosenberg
First, do it first.
Alan Hahn
Let's hear from the Yankee manager, Aaron.
Don Hahn
It's Aaron actually.
Alan Hahn
Why no rice tonight? Aaron.
Caller
Ron.
Yankees Manager Aaron Boone
So my plan going into this series was to have Ben play today, but I've just been able to so aggressively use Benny. Like even though he's not in the starting lineup. Like I view him playing a major and the last two games that he sat against a lefty, he's gotten five at bats, homer, walk, single. I've been able to kind of fire him at the most important part and it might be early in the game. So, you know, he is going to play against lefties and we're in a unique spot to where Goldie is obviously superpower at this point in his career is he's really great against left handed pitching and has, you know, been outstanding so far to start the year. And I'm not ready to catch Benny yet. You know, I would put him in a game, you know, but I'm, you know, not ready to go 5, 7, whatever innings with them yet, so. And also just early in the season here trying to keep our bench in play. And Goldie brings powerful presence, you know, at the top of the order against lefties. I, you know, I just want to keep that going as well. But again, having the ability to cherry when I fire.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, you know, you know, Don in
Don Hahn
it, he's giving us the, the specials tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
God.
Don Hahn
We also have a nice cod fillet. The.
Alan Hahn
You're not going to believe them in a Gut.
Don Hahn
What. What I love though is, is first of all, the nicknames are great, but
Peter Rosenberg
Benny, his whole name is literally two syllables. Ben Rice, I could give his whole name barely in a quarter second, but it's Benny.
Don Hahn
Everything is better than Ricey nickname.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's better than Ricey.
Peter Rosenberg
Goldie makes that gold. Schmidt. You know, God forbid we say a full name.
Alan Hahn
You know, maybe we figured out the problem with the Yankees. Maybe the reason the Yankees play soft in the playoffs is. Is because they literally have to have pet names for each other. I mean, could you be softer? No softer.
Don Hahn
Let's just.
Alan Hahn
No soft. Wait, I literally add.
Don Hahn
Why?
Alan Hahn
I'm gonna. I'm tell you guys who I add ey to
Don Hahn
women.
Alan Hahn
I'm in love with my child and my dog. But like, that is who gets the y. I pet name.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm waiting for the day where there's a player.
Alan Hahn
I do.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm really waiting for the day where there's a player whose name is Sweetney. You know, we got. You know, Sweet Knees is going to play shortstop this week.
Alan Hahn
Well, it would be the Yankees. It would have, because they're.
Don Hahn
The last name is Sweetney.
Caller
No.
Don Hahn
Yeah, his name is Sweet.
Alan Hahn
His name is Jim Sweetney, and we call him Sweet Knees.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Alan Hahn
And there's nothing weird about. Him and Sugar Ass are really the two best players we got.
Peter Rosenberg
I was going to say, but. But we're thinking the same thing.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. No, no, no, no. Hold it's because his name, he has an asterisk, so we call him Sugar Ass. It's not what you're thinking. And that's Sweet Knees and Sugar Ass.
Don Hahn
I don't understand, but I love Anthony's like the juice box theory because I love that. It really, really feels like that's what's going on here. It's like we're going to give Benny a juice box, but, you know, he's got to drink it before the fourth inning because we're probably going to need him come fifth, sixth inning because he's hitting the ball so well. But I want to get Goldie going. You know, he deserves a couple at bats. You know, he's really good against lefties.
Peter Rosenberg
Whose turn. That's what I would say. Whose turn is it to bring the apple slices and the. The juice box?
Don Hahn
Right, Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Whose parents bring in that?
Don Hahn
Mom brought the apple slices and the juice boxes. That's my turn now. You know what's the worst thing is when you're. When it's your turn and you forget, oh, you feel awful
Alan Hahn
now. Now on the other side of things, we have some football sound. We have Josie with an update on.
Don Hahn
It's Shane now.
Alan Hahn
I'm pretty or.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not spelled that way.
Alan Hahn
It's not spelled that way.
Peter Rosenberg
Cheney.
Alan Hahn
It's fanatical.
Peter Rosenberg
Shaney spoke.
Alan Hahn
Here's Shaney. An update on Dexter Lawrence.
Peter Rosenberg
Just a quick, quick update on that for you guys. We've had good conversations with his representatives throughout the last five or six days. Coach dawn, myself, we've all been in communication, you know, trying to find some resolution. I'll echo what coach said last week. You know, we'd like for Dexter to be here. And at some point, point we'll. We'll come to a resolution here, whatever that may be.
Rich Eisen
We'll see.
Peter Rosenberg
But conversations have been really good. They've been productive. And again, we'll. We'll see what happens here down the road. But I'm not going to say any more about it after that. But that's. That's the update. That's really all there is.
Don Hahn
Yeah, Dexie, you know, we had a good talk with him, and it's definitely about money.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, he wants to get paid and he's really good. He wants to get that money.
Peter Rosenberg
I guess the equivalent of good conversation is successful surgery. Right?
Don Hahn
Right. He just underwent successful surgery. Yeah, we just had good conversation.
Alan Hahn
It's all the same now while we're already playing, since Don says. I already have Don reeling from multiple audios, and this one's under 30 seconds. He should survive.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, thank you.
Alan Hahn
Here's Windy. Move it to the Knicks. Talking about the Knicks having a size advantage over the Hawks in the first round.
Don Hahn
They're just very susceptible at the big spot. This is a series where Mitch can probably, if he's on his game and what have you. Mitch can wreak havoc, particularly on the offensive glass.
Peter Rosenberg
They do not match up well with
Don Hahn
Carl Towns or Mitch Robinson's size on the interior.
Caller
So the Knicks advantage in this series, in my view, is their interior, and
Don Hahn
I would expect Mike Brown to lean into that.
Alan Hahn
So there you go.
Peter Rosenberg
Makes sense.
Alan Hahn
You agree with that, Alan?
Don Hahn
Absolutely. You know, that's. That size factor. Okongwu is their center. He's. I don't think he's 6, 10. He might be listed as such, but he does stretch the floor. He does shoot threes pretty well, and he is a very physical, active defender who can switch. But he doesn't have the size to handle Towns, especially when Towns is in the post or driving the basket. And then Robinson is literally with his hands in the air. Bigger than everybody on the floor so they should should dominate the glass in this series. I don't know. They have a backup center named Jock Lindell who I know you've all heard of and know him really well. He he was injured. I don't know what his status is, but if they don't have him it makes it even worse for the Hawks. So just something to keep in mind.

Wondering if I made a mistake that I went to work at PST&G with my dad costing me more money to get there than I was getting paid. Blaring this on the way. So you were into it on the cross Island.
Alan Hahn
I don. I could have seen you at that age, like not being into this at all.
Don Hahn
I'm with you, Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
I enjoyed this album.
Don Hahn
I'm shocked.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Fame is strong for me.
Don Hahn
Oh, they were.
Alan Hahn
No, no, no, no. It's, it's, it's. No, it's not strong. I mean the. Given the level of that they made it to and, and how long they've sustained even without a huge body of work.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean that's.
Alan Hahn
They came back a year ago though and, and do stadiums.
Don Hahn
It's just like they didn't leave.
Alan Hahn
They're monsters.
Don Hahn
But it just shows you like they came in. They came in hot and then just disappeared but yet never went away. If that makes any sense.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's, it's, it's. It's a. I. It's a wild run that they albums.
Don Hahn
Oh my God.
Alan Hahn
It's. I have to tell you, it was one moment I was having. Natalie and I were having brunch with Ballard and Katie a couple years back. Maybe two years ago. It always is. By the way. Don't be. Michael Ballard's a great hanging and his girlfriend's even better.
Don Hahn
It was the delivery done?
Alan Hahn
Well, no, but he.
Don Hahn
But he's.
Alan Hahn
But he's being. No, but he's being lazy.
Peter Rosenberg
He's.
Alan Hahn
He's just taking off.
Don Hahn
He was good.
Alan Hahn
It was flawless. But that's what made it hurtful. It wouldn't have hurt if it wasn't if it wasn't. If it wasn't done well. But we were sitting there. And the story, by the way, is gonna make his take just play out fantastic. That's. That's the unfortunate part of the story. I'm going with the story. And we're sitting at brunch and that song comes on, and Natalie and I, like, naturally just start singing with. Obviously, Nor me. Me and Natalie, there's no. Like, we're not an Oasis household by, you know, any stretch. But we like to start singing along.
Rich Eisen
Right.
Alan Hahn
And Ballard, like, rolls his eyes and is like, ugh, I hate this song. And. And then Katie's like, oh, me too. And I'm like, you know what? You guys have found each other.
Don Hahn
Dinner's over.
Alan Hahn
I know. I mean, it's not enough. I'm not gonna feel strong enough that it's. Dinner's over. It's just. You're weird. You're both weird, though. Like, hate it. Like, I get if you say Oasis is not my thing. That's just, like, not my kind of music. But, like, to not fundamentally think the melody to that song is a banger is tough. Like, that's a tough argument.
Don Hahn
That's. That's. The entire arena sings along. No.
Alan Hahn
As good as anyone you can think of.
Don Hahn
I agree.
Alan Hahn
And every part of it. Like it. Each melody. So you have the first melody of just the verse.
Don Hahn
Yep.
Alan Hahn
The melody of the bridge is incredible. And then the melody of the chorus. After all, you're my one. Each one is, like, better than the last. And then I'm like. And then I go.
Don Hahn
And this is.
Alan Hahn
I don't want to do a whole fight. And hopefully Ballard's not listening because I don't want to have this fight. And this is what makes you a fish person, Ballard. You don't care about building to actual choruses and having a moment where people can sing along. It's like, you're against commercial success, and this is that song. Wonderwall is the definition of a really well done commercial.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don Hahn
That's it. Yes. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's also a very. It's a. It's a good song, but it's a damn good song.
Alan Hahn
That's the thing.
Peter Rosenberg
I. I just. I guess you can't come up. It's difficult to compare Sports hall of Fame to be the Rock and Roll hall of Fame, because that. There isn't much of a body of work as significant as it was. So if you had a. If you had a player that just had an amazing couple of years, they wouldn't go to the hall of Fame.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
How great. Those two years were just not enough.
Don Hahn
Oasis is like Jeremy Lin. People still talk about it.
Alan Hahn
No, no.
Don Hahn
It was just an amazing experience. People still talk about it.
Alan Hahn
I hate what you just did.
Don Hahn
What do you mean? Because they had a moment, it disappeared.
Alan Hahn
But they're not a one hit one.
Don Hahn
Jeremy let go.
Alan Hahn
Jeremy Lynn's a one hit wonder.
Don Hahn
They had six games. They were very good.
Alan Hahn
No, no, I. No, it was one of my favorite moments in. Since I've been in New York again.
Don Hahn
But they're oranges. When you try to do the comp, the comp is. It's something that happened that was brief but people still talk about it.
Peter Rosenberg
True.
Alan Hahn
They hear about it, love it.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know if Peter will get it.
Alan Hahn
Oh, God.
Peter Rosenberg
Tim Linceum, Giants pitcher, youngs, couple of no hitters. But it all happened in like a four or five years and then just fell. Never go to the hall of Fame. But for that period of time.
Don Hahn
Lyncum's a very, very good.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but we.
Peter Rosenberg
One of the great.
Alan Hahn
I hate to break this up, but unfortunately Don ruined the game. We were looking for a music comp. That was another sports comp.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but I bet that.
Alan Hahn
All I'm saying is it's a one hit wonder. You can't include Lynn. Oasis is more the equivalent of you were a player on a team and you won two championships and left and we're gone. Jeremy Lynn was literally a great month.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, Jeremy Lynn was just. Yeah, that's.
Don Hahn
I'm just saying.
Alan Hahn
But I also don't downplay.
Don Hahn
It was great. People talk about it to this day.
Alan Hahn
No, it was special.
Don Hahn
Like it changed their lives.
Peter Rosenberg
He was honestly was on the COVID of Sports Illustrated twice when that was still a thing.
Alan Hahn
Twice. No, it was. It was a special moment. I remember where I was for the Toronto game that Sunday afternoon. I was at the Laker game. I mean it was. It was an epic moment. I was completely being a fraud Knicks fan even back then. Okay, so Don, I want to get to some calls here and we have a few about the Mets. But where are you at emotionally, mentally, physically, intellectually at this moment? As the Mets now at like 10 o' clock tonight will have to deal with Yamamoto and it will be facing seven straight losses right in the face.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, we talked about it earlier because it's Yamamoto because of the Dodgers. If you found a way to win the game, it'll feel like you won five in a row. And that's what you got to hope over the Next couple of games that you just find a way to win, you'll find feel better beating the Dodgers. You know, you got a pretty decent pitching performance from Peterson last night. Just couldn't hit. But this team is going to have to figure out a way to hit. That's baseball, Susan. Right. They'll, they'll put up 10 runs tonight out of nowhere because that's just how it works. But there's got to be some sustainability here and try to put something together. Two games against the Dodgers, then you got to go play the Cubs like so. You got to start putting together some hits, you got to start scoring some runs. And the thing that I would have mentioned in talk about it Tuesday if we didn't decide to just jump in on the World cup is I'm tired of hearing these people and I see it on social media all the time. Well, look, look, they got off to a great start last year. Look what happened. Or they got a miserable start in 24 and look what happened. I'm tired of these little spurts. They're like the Metro, like diarrhea. They go on runs. That's what they do.
Alan Hahn
That's where the franchise, they go on runs.
Don Hahn
Okay, you got to go back to
Peter Rosenberg
the 80s when they were consistently good in 84, 85, they would have went to the playoffs as there was a wild card, win the championship at 86, 87, 88, 89, 90, consistently good with a wild card. They would have went to the playoffs all those years. But I'm tired of, well, well, maybe they'll go on a run again. Is that what you build? Is that what David Stearns decided to buy Build here is, hey, maybe we'll catch lightning in a bottle and get hot, make the playoffs. When are they going to build something that is always good? And that's why I jump Allen when he complains about the Yankees. At least the Yankees have built something as frustrating it is that they haven't won that you know where you are, that every year you're going to be good. Sometimes you're great, but you're always going to be good. When are you going to get people in here that are going to make this team consistently good? You've got the money, you've got the building, you got your own network, you got the fan base, you got all the things that you need to make that happen. When are you going to do it? Instead of trying to piece something together, hoping to make a run, maybe we'll make a run in the second half
Alan Hahn
and stick it to the play.
Peter Rosenberg
Is that what this is supposed to be about? How about being sustainably good?
Don Hahn
But how do you build that, Don? You build that through players that are sustainably good, that are consistently year after year playing at a high level. You got that in Juan Soto. Now he's hurt right now. So we don't have the evidence of Juan Soto giving you offense and, and carrying you through what has been an awful run right here of three shutouts in the last four games and back to back in 20 straight innings without scoring a run. But by the way, if they don't score in the first inning tonight, 21, that matches the longest of the season so far. The Chicago White Sox, the team you don't want to be related to. But what I'm saying is that's what it usually is. Those teams you talked about, they had guys, they had Carter and Hernandez and Strawberry. Like they had players that every year you knew you were getting something out of them. The Mets have Soto. What is Lindor, other than a guy that has had that roller coaster type of.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a great point because. Because what the Mets had during that time in both making trades and young players, they played to the back of their baseball cards. You know where you're going to get out of Doc and Darrell, you know you're going to get out of Carter and Hernandez. Are you getting consistency from Lindor? You know, I mean, you gave the guy a 10 year contract. Are you really getting bang for your buck? I know he hit the grand slam against the Phillies. That was great. But are you really getting consistent with play from him? Soto, you did last year. Let's see, he's hurt now. That's not his fault.
Don Hahn
But his whole career's been consistency, right? His whole career has been production.
Peter Rosenberg
But I want to see it on a consistent enough basis.
Don Hahn
You answered the question on Lindor, though. Don, you answered the question on Lindor is a $300 million player who isn't consistent.
Peter Rosenberg
He isn't consistent, but by the end
Don Hahn
of the year his numbers look good. But is he a guy that is good enough to be part of carrying a team year after year?
Peter Rosenberg
And also, and this is important when you look at their young players, all right, Alvarez has been okay, but overall we're still kind of waiting Vientos Beatty, like, you know, where, where is their guy that they. Now McNeil looks like he might really be a special pitcher. Right? So. And we'll see all those young kids and how they end up being. But from an everyday player standpoint, you know who have they brought up and Alonzo gone, Nimmo gone. And for reasons at the time, I was willing to give them the benefit of the doubt. Let's see if they can do better. But you also need the guys that you draft and the guys in the minor leagues to come up here and be a part, be a part of this. Because even though the Mets did go out and get Gary Carter and Keith Hernandez, they drafted Doc, they drafted Darrell. They are. Lenny came up and was Wally Backman and, and bringing, you know, getting Ron Darling from Texas as a kid and cultivating him, and getting Sid Fernandez as a kid from LA and cultivating him, you know, and, and, and getting young kids that were able to contribute, are they doing that enough?
Alan Hahn
Well, let's, let's talk to Leon in la, who wants to weigh in on the Mets. Leon, what do you got?
Caller
Hey, how's it going, guys? Long time listener, first time caller.
Peter Rosenberg
What's up?
Don Hahn
Awesome.
Caller
Hey, can you guys hear me?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, we got you.
Caller
So sorry about that. Long time listener, first time caller. Yeah, frankly, big Mets fan, I have a feeling we got to start getting ready to, to see Lindor get traded sometime soon. Now. I think Stearns kind of. I think Lindor, you know, wasn't part of Stearns's agenda going into this. And I think that's sort of the last domino that has to fall. And I think, yeah, Lindor is probably going to get traded, I got to imagine.
Peter Rosenberg
I think the reason that they made the moves they did is because how immovable Lindor is. He signed, but I'm surprised.
Caller
I think we have a lot of, I think we have a lot of infielders now. You know, it feels like he started setting it up.
Peter Rosenberg
Who's going to take that contract? He's under contract through 31. I mean, it's, it's a, it's too big of a contract to think that you're going to get. There's six what you need for him. That's why they made the eight guys, because I don't think Lindor is movable. Yeah, so you gotta bring in a guy that always starts out slow. You're gonna bring in a guy that's under.
Alan Hahn
How.
Peter Rosenberg
Because how old is he now?
Don Hahn
32.
Peter Rosenberg
And you got to pay him till, you know, so he's gonna be, you'll be paying him big money deep into to his 30s. That contract's not going to age well. You already feel like it's not aging well based on how poorly was defensively last year.
Don Hahn
But how do you make it, how else do you make it Soto's team? Which is clearly what Soto wants, right. If there is something going on between them, you got to figure out a way can you, can you eat the money? Can you eat some Steve Cohen?
Peter Rosenberg
You can do whatever you want. You saw eat the money with, with the two pitchers back in the day, right? With Verlander and Scherzer, that is a
Don Hahn
lot of money, certainly, but it's a
Peter Rosenberg
lot of money to eat.
Don Hahn
But again, if, if that's causing enough trouble and Soto is, you know, feeling away about the personalities in the room and maybe he doesn't look at Lindor as a guy who's locked in all the time that as he should be. You don't know. But there's something clearly going on there. And at some point you do have an owner that has the kind of money that can clean up mistakes. And if this might be one that you figure we've got to take a step, is that the step you take to just continue to reshape the team?
Peter Rosenberg
But don't you think that that was probably a conversation at the end of last year and the decision was, well, listen, we can't move the contract, so we're going to have to do all these other things. If they could move it, they would have moved it. And I don't think that changes, you know, a few months later.

Did we touch on everybody so far today? Oh, Maiden. We haven't played any Maiden.
Don Hahn
We haven't. Yeah, we did. We played Maiden earlier, didn't we?
Peter Rosenberg
Did we?
Don Hahn
Yeah, we did. Yeah. We might have missed it.
Peter Rosenberg
Had to put Maiden in after you put priest in.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Priest and Maiden. It's like Led Zeppelin and the who. They're right. They're right there. Can't have one without the other.
Don Hahn
I think you're right. Although I preferred Maiden over priest.
Alan Hahn
Whenever I hear iron Maiden, you might
Don Hahn
spit on the ground me saying that. But I do.
Alan Hahn
Both of them could. They could both walk in wearing T shirts and say, hey, I'm an iron maiden. And the bat could say, no, I'm a Judas Priest.
Don Hahn
Whatever.
Alan Hahn
I'm not sure what you are.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, what are you going to do now?
Alan Hahn
All I think of when I think of Iron Maiden is Bill and Ted's excellent adventure.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Alan Hahn
You know the part. And pie mount.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, I don't remember seeing that movie.
Alan Hahn
What?
Peter Rosenberg
I know. I don't feel terrible about it, but
Alan Hahn
it doesn't go with 80s Don to me. Oh, but yeah, I mean, they're like. They're metal kids. Like, yeah, but it's a comedy about two weirdo, you know.
Peter Rosenberg
But I was Peter Rosenberg. Hip hop with metal. There were times I frowned down on things like that because it was a little too stereotypical.
Don Hahn
Very cliche stereotypical.
Peter Rosenberg
That probably would turn me off at the time, Peter. Because I took my metal very seriously and I didn't like the whole vibe the movie was giving off where it was kind of playfully making fun of my. Of me, you know.
Alan Hahn
Right. And I get that. And I could be the same way. And I'm sure. But anyways, there's a part where they go send them to the iron Maiden and they're like, excellent. And then they're like, behead them and they're like bogus or something like that. I just Got this from Ballard, by the way. Ballard has weighed in.
Peter Rosenberg
Here we go. See, he's being. He's mocking. You know what?
Don Hahn
Sounds like Cartman.
Peter Rosenberg
He does.
Don Hahn
He sounds like Cartman.
Peter Rosenberg
Sunday night. That's what he said.
Alan Hahn
It's whiny. His complaint is it's whiny. It is whiny.
Peter Rosenberg
Very English. There's very few.
Don Hahn
Yeah, of course it's whiny. They're English.
Alan Hahn
No, and they're. And they're Liverpool, specifically.
Caller
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
But usually you lose your accent when you sing. They're one of those bands that, you know, was quintessential. Quintessentially English.
Alan Hahn
That's right, man. You know how I feel about.
Peter Rosenberg
I gotta say, love or hate. Ballard. I think he listens than any. More than any of our friends do.
Alan Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't have friends that listen as much as Ballard.
Alan Hahn
No. And not only that. Used to have us on in the house while, you know, he's his. He's a publicist and he works from home. He'd keep the TV on now that he's become like a family man. And he's in New Jersey driving his stepdaughters here and there everywhere. Now he's listening in the car. I mean, how many. Who do we have? My wife barely listens. I think Don's mom is out.
Peter Rosenberg
She's out.
Don Hahn
She's good.
Peter Rosenberg
No, she's done.
Don Hahn
Stephanie listens.
Alan Hahn
Does she?
Don Hahn
For the record.
Caller
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
I think for the kids.
Alan Hahn
What do you mean, for the kids?
Peter Rosenberg
Meaning she has it on so the kids could hear.
Alan Hahn
Why you think the kids want to hear?
Don Hahn
They can hear Daddy's voice because he's never around.
Caller
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Sad.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think Mom Marco has much interest in breaking down Knicks Hawks.
Alan Hahn
Not yet.
Don Hahn
Not yet.
Peter Rosenberg
Not yet.
Don Hahn
He will, though.
Alan Hahn
Well, I don't know. Maya could be close, though, considering this week she's added. She's up to, like, four words. We had. We had. We had up. And we had duck. But now. But now she has added high.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Alan Hahn
And this is a big one. Chicken.
Don Hahn
Chicken.
Alan Hahn
The other day, we were like. She. We were like, oh, you like chicken. You're enjoying your chicken.
Yankees Manager Aaron Boone
Chicken.
Alan Hahn
You want to say it? You want to say it? And then she's standing there and she's looking at us and she's thinking. And she just goes, chicken. Like she was happy. I mean, like, so happy. And like, she decided, I'm making a decision. I'm going all in for chicken.
Don Hahn
I'm saying it now.
Alan Hahn
She doesn't know that chicken's an animal. She only knows chicken, the food. Well, that's all right, which is unfortunate for the chickens, but you get the idea, right?
Don Hahn
You'll point at it. Hey, look, there's a chick.
Alan Hahn
She's like, what?
Peter Rosenberg
So Mama was just that one time.
Alan Hahn
Mama is not. Has not made it back.
Don Hahn
What? No, she played for her a lot.
Rich Eisen
Mama.
Alan Hahn
And they tell her and show her the video. Look, Maya is saying mama, and she hasn't said Maya either, because Maya and mama are pretty close. Once you get one, you kind of got the other. Yesterday, she. I got to hide that hi Da. I didn't get, like, dad dat yet or daddy, but I got hi da. Okay, we're getting there. We're making some serious. But by the way, the dunking right now in our living room, I mean, she's literally a dunking machine. She's grabbing the rock, jamming it.
Don Hahn
Is she Shaq, or are we talking a little bit more like. Like. Like, just like a basic.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
What are we doing here? Is she tearing a rim?
Alan Hahn
It's more like Sean Bradley. Okay? It's not. It's not.
Don Hahn
All right.
Alan Hahn
You know, she's getting to the rim, and she's dropping it in. You know what I mean? Sometimes it's more thunderous than others.
Don Hahn
Thunderous. Okay?
Alan Hahn
The thing she really wants to do that she can't do yet is we have three. Three different basketballs. The three little, like, rubbery basketballs. She really wants to get them, like, all up at the same time. So she'll go up to, like, grab the one basketball, and she's like, I need another one. And then I'm like, you don't have enough hands. Your hands are not big enough to make this work. I try to help, but it's a disaster. Let's go to Anthony before we get to enn, Anthony and Charlotte. What's up, Anthony?
Caller
What's going on, guys? How's it going today?
Alan Hahn
We're good, man. What do you got?
Caller
So, yeah, I think, Don, first of all, I never thought I would say this, but I am a huge fan of diarrhea. But I think it is. It is very apt. The Mets. I mean, it's just the inconsistencies are crazy, man. And I think this year, you know, I was willing to give David Stearns, you know, a chance to sort of rebuild this and make this look like what we thought we were wanting, which was a team that would be consistent. But you look at what Nimmo is doing right now, that one I never really agreed with. And, I mean, Look, I know Don is preaching patience. I wonder, are you still preaching patience or is this really irritating you right out of the gate?
Peter Rosenberg
It's irritating me, but we're still only 17 games in. You don't have Juan Soto. You can't make major decisions this early in the process. But they got to be on notice because the one thing about baseball is it's every day. So we reconvene two weeks from now, that's going to be like 11, 12 games. And if there's still three, four games under.500. And now we're in May.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Now it's a trend now.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, now, now, now we've got enough of a body work to say, is this going to turn around and what's it going to look like when it does? But I don't know. How do you. I guess you could do whatever you want, but like, how do you fire somebody 17 games into a season and their best offensive players been out for half of those 17 games?
Don Hahn
That's your excuse. You're missing the key piece.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I think you kind of wait, but at some point you're going to say, even if we do turn it around, it might be too little, too late.
Alan Hahn
Did he just. Did he just start the call by saying he's a fan of.
Don Hahn
Yep.
Alan Hahn
Listen, I have five stage diarrhea. I had diarrhea that you dream about.
Don Hahn
I still love this Anthony.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe he was a fan of my analogy.
Don Hahn
I think that's what he was trying to suggest.
Peter Rosenberg
But I can't say that you're a fan of that diarrhea that you dream about.
Alan Hahn
It's got so much. Is that a Don laugh in the drop, too?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it might be.
Caller
It's.
Alan Hahn
That's not you laughing right now, right? Listen, Listen how good that is. In the drop. I had diarrhea that you dream about.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was.
Alan Hahn
It's got a lot there that just. I'll tell you what, for my money, I think that guy could have went right up against Chris Carlin, had things broken differently. I saw Chris today, had a great moment.
Peter Rosenberg
He's a good man.
Alan Hahn
We embraced really, really nice.

Peter Rosenberg [01:15]:
“The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame...the equivalent would be, I know, Gus Frerotte being a borderline Hall of Famer.”
Don Hahn [07:14]:
“Anunoby is the X-factor...you take for granted what he provides each series, because...he's going to guard the other team's best player, and that's not easy to do.”
Don Hahn [31:12]:
“I’m tired of these little spurts. They're like the Mets are like diarrhea. They go on runs. That’s what they do.”
Alan Hahn [17:12]:
“Maybe the reason the Yankees play soft in the playoffs is because they literally have to have pet names for each other.”
Alan Hahn [44:01]:
“But now she has added 'hi'...and this is a big one—chicken.”

“Oasis is like Jeremy Lin. People still talk about it. Just an amazing experience.”
Lively, sarcastic, nostalgic, and New York to the core. The banter is kinetic, the language direct, and good-natured roasting is never far away. Sports knowledge intermingles with pop-culture savvy, all with the hosts’ signature blend of self-deprecating humor and strong opinions.
This episode is vintage "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg": sports argument disguised as comedy club banter, music nostalgia, New York trivia, and fans who love a passionate, culture-infused breakdown of their city’s teams. Stern opinions and laughter abound, making for an entertaining, insightful listen for any sports—or pop culture—fan.
