yeah, it's tough time.

So The Knicks are two wins away from going to the Finals for the first time since 1999. Now Pat Riley said this and we always bring it up kind of like when Bill Parcells you are where your record says you are. We always credit Bill with that. We always credit Pat with, you know, a series doesn't change or turn until a team loses a home game. So I think there's something to that. So let's see what the Cavs can bring to the table tomorrow. Our coverage will begin at 7. Tip off a set for 8 o' clock right here on 880. But we open the show with this and we'll finish up with your calls at 1-800-919-3776. Before we get to the Giants and the Yankees is that, you know, we talked to Frank Isola about it. What is it that would concern you that could bring the Cavaliers back into the series or dare I say, win it? And to me, outside of an Unforeseen event, an injury, kind of what happened against the Heat. Players coming off the bench in a brawl and getting suspended. I think we're at that level. I don't think we're being conceited, Nick fans. I think we're talking facts here. His team's won nine in a row. Only 12 other teams have ever done that in the history of the NBA to win that many games in a row. The Cavs, I don't think are that kind of a team. I know they did it against Detroit, but that was Detroit. They're not going to do that against this Knicks team. Am I wrong to proclaim that if everything stays the way it is, the Knicks are moving on to the NBA Finals?
B
No. Something has to change, Don, for this team. And the first thing to point to is in game two, their bench was one for 15 from three point range. And you can't survive that. You just, you don't survive those type that, those types of shooting nights. Because the Cavaliers defense isn't elite. It's good, not elite. Their offense is what can be elite at times. So we knew, and the Cavs knew coming in, the only way they could compete with the Knicks is to make sure that their offense was clicking because they're going to have to score to beat this team. Because that, that Nick offense is very good and their defense is good. Why they beat the Pistons was because Detroit's offense was very, very pedestrian. They were known for their defense. So low scoring games. But the Cavs could take advantage of playing low scoring games because they have a better offense in this series. They've got to get more than 105 points. And you're not beating the Knicks with 105 points.
C
No, you're not going to do that.
B
So especially if you don't have an elite defense. So I think they've got to get, they know it. They've got to get somebody to knock down some threes. They, you know, Merrill can't go oh for seven from three. You know, you heard Frank bring up Dean Wade. Dean Wade's a starter. He didn't. He scored three points in the game. You can't have a starter give you three or four points. You got to get, especially if your bench isn't doing anything. So you go home where you're six and one in the playoffs and you're comfortable and benches traditionally play better. At home you're more comfortable. That's what you're watching is to see will their offense open up and put up some points and put Pressure on the Knicks to try to keep up
C
Now, Peter, I'm going to kick it old school with this, all right?
B
Kick it old school.
C
He said that the giants back in 1986, rolled to the Super Bowl. They played the 49ers in the divisional round, beat him 49. Nothing killed them, pillar to post. But early in that game, Jerry Rice caught a pass, a slant, and he's off to the races. He's going to score a touchdown and God knows why. He dropped the ball, fumbled it, Giants recovered it, didn't score. And my feeling was at the time, all right, Giants would have won the game 49, 7 instead of 49 nothing.
E
Okay.
C
I mean, he was like, oh, that would have turned everything around. That would have changed. No, it wouldn't. The Giants were better. It just would. It would have changed the score. That's how I feel about the Merrill miss. If Merrill hits that shot, I think the Knicks win in five. I really believe they're just better. And they proved it. It just that all we would have looked at is, all right, the comeback just fell short and it rimmed out. I think the Knicks proved that that was your shot. You didn't get it. If they got the shot, I don't think it really changes anything. Everybody would have talked about the next day, oh, Knicks lose game one at home. You know what that means? I think history is going to show that if that Merrill shot went down, it would have just been a win. It wouldn't have changed.
E
No, I hear what you're saying, and I think in the case of a one individual game, it really makes sense. I think changing the. Changing the winner, changing the outcome of the first game of a series has such a ripple effect. Like, while I do agree with you, the Knicks are just a better team, better teams lose series. It happens. And as we saw statistically, and we pointed this out, particularly when you lose the first game at home, teams lose series.
C
I can't prove you wrong. But now we're playing the game of the emotion, the fragility, if you will, of a team that can't have something bad happen to them. I think the Knicks kind of have proven that they could dust that off more than past teams can. And I think learning the lesson from last year is one of the reasons why seeing this whole thing started, this whole streak started. Allen after falling behind 2:1 to Atlanta. Right. I think that was the old Knicks. If this team is what I think it is, I think that I can't prove it, but I don't think it Would have been the same old Knicks if that shot fell. What do you think?
B
No, I don't and I think you're right. And remember the two losses they had to Atlanta were by one point each. And they had, they had same as Sam Merrill. They had a chance to survive that game too where they gave a lead away. If they had just Joshua, coincidentally Josh Hart had that corner three that if he knocks that down, we're talking, I think it would have been made it a four point game that would have put the game away essentially. But they don't hit that shot. And then the second game is the same story where they don't get the opportunity to score late. And because of it they lose a game by one, by one point. That didn't crush them, it just galvanized them. I'm telling you though, this is, this goes beyond, with the Cavs, this goes beyond a talent thing or a try harder thing. This goes to. I think they like, I think they're ringing out as much as they can out of this team. To get out of the first round. They had to go seven against the Raptors team that was good, but not that good. And then they went seven against a Pistons team that was number one in the east and yet looked like they had flaws that the Cavs wanted Detroit. That's why they wanted to be on that side of the bracket because they, they knew how to beat them, they knew what to do. This is a different animal for them. And so do I think they're going to get a home game? Of course I do. But I don't know if it changes the fortunes of how they feel. If, you know, game one they were able to hold on. So I think that that was, that was for the Knicks, just a rust game, a bad game. But they, they, they went into the series pretty confident in what they needed to do against this Cavs team. It's not going to be easy, but it never supposed to be. But here, here, I'll give you why game three is something to watch when it comes to the Cavs offense in the playoffs. All right? They're now two and seven on the road where they average under 105 points a game. They shoot low 40% and they shoot 30% from three at home this year. They're six and one in the playoffs. They score 114, almost 115 points a game at home. That's a 10 point difference. They shoot almost 50% from the field and 38% from three. So it's as simple as they're very much a team that likes to play at home and they're a team that will play better at home. The caveat I throw out at you guys is what did we learn about the Knicks and playing on the road in the playoffs?
C
That they know how to beat teams on the road.
B
It's almost what they do exclusively. They close series out on the road. It's what they do. So that's where the rubber meets the road when it comes to this weekend.
C
Now, I just think we've gotten to a point with this Knicks team that if they lose, it'll be because the team played better, not because of some psychological thing or, you know, like it's. We're always finding excuses, right? Like, you know, typical Knicks or the karma or not his team is. I just think it. Hey, you'll lose a game because you didn't shoot well. It just wasn't your night or the Cavs can't you the cab is brought it. No. No other reasons besides that. 1-800-919-3776 Always nice to talk to Spike in St. Pete. You're on ESPN New York.
F
I listen to everything. You're like. You're like a bunch of brothers having a brotherly spat. I love it. I love your coverage. Yeah, I watched eight quarters of the. To me, it's so simple, Alan, and you may agree with me or not. I've never seen the inconsistency. Incon. Inconsistent inconsistency of Jared Allen and Evan Mobley. They could ever. Mobley didn't take a shot in the second half.
B
Doesn't make sense.
F
Didn't take a shot. Doesn't make sense. Now here's what I see on the screen. I watch a lot of defense. You know, I'm a newbie guy. They're on the screen, they're moving, they're setting their picks. They're setting their screens. They're going after. They're slapping at the ball for three, four, five minutes. Then you don't see them. They're off the screen for 12 minutes at a time. There's no consistency there. And if you. Depending on the backcourt, Donovan Mitchell is got either an ankle tweak or something, but he did the fatigue setting in and I said hardness washed. Not offensively. He's a liability on defensive. Why Kenny's coming to his aid. I guess he has to do that. I guess Dan Gilbert extended the contract. I think if they're going to win. It's all that you've told me. There's thousand Times. Bench players like the rims. They shoot better at home. Maybe they'll win a close game tomorrow. But what I've seen with the team that we love so much is they've got more gears on their bike than anybody else. And I've seen them shift gears, change strategies, go from the hub or the. Or the elbow or go from the corners. Anunoby's cutting better. Josh Hawk almost came out and banked his. Just like Tarzan. And I'll show him. I'll show him. He was brilliant. And I've seen the guys come off. That was all starters yesterday. They were the 90% and they played about 80% of the minutes and they did about 90% of the damage. They have other gears to go to. The Knicks are not even close to playing near the best they can play. And one last thing. I'm going to watch the game tonight very, very carefully. I know you hate it, or maybe you don't hate it when I go through this official thing, but it bumps me up when I said Mark Davis, the Pistons weapons out. That's. You didn't agree with me. That's fine. Let's see how he referees. Because both of these teams do the same thing. They send their subs in, they swipe at the ball. And you saw Zach last night. Not because we had some fun with him. He established the game and it was fine. Am I wrong?
B
No, it's true. Everybody kind of understood what was going to be called and that in the beginning there was some grumbling about the amount of whistles, but once the players adjusted, the whistles slowed down. It's true.
C
Let's go to JT in New Jersey. You're on. Don On. And Rosenberg.
D
Hey, fellas. How's it going? First. First, Donovan Mitchell. I don't see anything with an ankle,
F
man.
D
They just went through seven with the Raptors and then another seven against the Pistons. Back and forth, back and forth, home and away. Like eventually, like Spike just said, fatigue is going to set in one way or the other. To my point, though, so for the Knicks, the starting five men, the unselfishness, that's kind of been the theme all year. They. They play their roles and every night one or two guys is going to shine. That's what we saw last night with Hart. We see it with Brunson and Towns on a daily basis. Bridges has his nights. That seems to be the team's identity. And it feels. It feels fun in that sort of way, you know, like. Like before the Big Three era. They're Kind of playing as a whole team, it kind of. It's almost nostalgic. It, like, brings you back to an era before, you know, they just had throwing them up, like, every night. And another thing, I think the Knicks have the most underrated bench in the entire league. And ultimately, this all goes back. I think we got to give credit to Mike Brown. I. For some reason, I feel like he falls to the wayside in all this, and he's done nothing. But all season, first of all, all season, he's got these guys rotating in and out. They're getting rest, and we're seeing the product of that on the. On the court. Now we see everybody's fresh, everybody comes in, they're ready to go, they're ready to step in. That goes back to Mike Brown. That's a complete shift in. In philosophy from what we saw with Thibodeau, and now we're seeing it with Brown. And the second thing is. Okay, the second thing is, with Brown, I think that he. You know, he's got him playing this, like, no panic ball. He must be out there saying, like, guys, if you get down 10, if you get down 15, do not panic. Just keep with the defense, keep with the pressure. And we see how. How tough this team is on defense, and they just keep at it. And then they come back. We see it time after time, and I think that's got to go back to Brown. You know, it's.
B
I. I would give credit to the veteran players, too, have been through a lot of wars, and they just don't panic because they've kind of been there, done that. There's not much they haven't seen other than the NBA Finals at this point. So I think you do credit the. The experience of the team, which is why, as a fan, while losing to Miami and losing to Indiana and then losing to Indiana again, and, like, those suck, right? Those are terrible experiences. But it's how you write the story to get to a point like this where it's sort of like, it's not much they haven't seen or done or been through or experienced. So that's that part of it. I think there are times Mike Brown is willing to listen to players when he puts out lineups. He's willing to try things, and there's times during a game where you're like, that's not working, you know, but he's trying it. He wants to see there's something happening. He'll put a lineup together. He's trying to find something. And what he's Willing to do which guys, as we know in professional sports, is not easy. And no matter what the sport is, is, if he's got five working, he's not going well. You know, but Jalen's a starter. I got to get him back out there or, you know, Cat's a starter. I should have him out there. Josh is a starter. He should play. Bridges is a starter. He should be back out there. No, these five guys are working. I'm going with them. They're all. They all understand, like, nobody, Nobody, nobody feels away. They're just like, well, that's just the way it's been here.
C
Yeah. I don't think people have left, you know, Mike Brown by the wayside. I just think that, you know, there's so much going on on the court, but I. It's hard not to give him credit.
B
He's managed it well.
C
But I think you'll start to see it because they've gotten as far as they went last year. Right. We talked about this at the beginning of the season.
B
Two wins. You're absolutely right. This is literally where they were.
C
So, you know, getting past this series, I think he'll finally start getting his flowers because now you'll. You'll actually see the benefit of why they made the change. They wanted to get him over the hump. They would be over the hump. They would be where they had not been since 1999. And obviously, if they win the whole thing, for sure, he will get the credit. But I think it'll. It's. It's a little slow because after, believe it or not, we're. We're Right. We were last year.
B
Exactly.
C
You know, so we're. How many wins you have? Last year it was 10, and you got 10 now. So now it'll start to change for sure. Lang is in Connecticut. You're on espn, New York.
F
Yeah.
B
Hi.
F
Good evening, gentlemen.
D
This has been quite the ride.
F
I'm enjoying every moment of it.
C
I'm savoring it all in relishing.
F
I'm enjoying the journey. With that being said, I want to look at things a bit strategically, and I. Alan, I understand you take things
D
day at a time, but it doesn't mean we can't kind of look a little bit ahead.
B
Don't.
F
So if the Knicks come out.
B
Don't do it. Don't do it. Don't do it. I'm telling you. You'll set me off. Don't do it. I see what you're going to say, and I'm telling you, don't do it. Don't do it.
F
Don't tempt state.
D
I understand.
B
Don't do it.
D
If and when they win.
B
Don.
D
What about resting OG and OBI game four?
B
Because it's very easy. I'm going to injury.
F
When you have a hamstring and it's
D
tight, you can easily re aggravate it.
E
So you're saying if they get game three, if they steal game three tomorrow, would you consider resting OG
C
it's so performative and thank you for the phone call. I guess. No goodbye.
E
Why is it performative?
B
Because this is not what you do.
C
It's not what you do. He's right.
B
Because look, trying to give us something different because it's, it's, it is a very performative thing that's happening right now. Let me think of something that no one else would say. And it's a completely absurd thing to do. First of all, OG Anunoby right now, if they're up 30 and you said, you know we're going to sit you OG you know what he's going to tell you. The hell you are.
C
Yeah. Come on, give me a set for
B
two freaking weeks, dude. I'm playing in this game.
C
You saw how rusty he was in Game 1 because the Knicks hadn't played in forever. And tack on what, four more days for him because he hadn't played since game two of the Sixer series. Now if you sit him in game four and you win and now you got to sit and wait for the spurs and the Thunder. Now he can be even more Rusty for Game 1 because he would have sat a couple of days longer than everybody else.
E
For what?
C
If he's hurt? If he's really legitimately hurt, it's a different story.
B
If it's three zero, aren't you going, let's finish this thing in four. Let's finish this thing as soon as we can. Not tempt fate, not mess around. Why would you do that? This is the problem with the NBA fan though. This is exactly it. Don't they complain about load management? What's the first thing they all run to though? Got to protect him. I get hurt. He might get hurt. Playing war doesn't get you hurt. Playing more get you in better rhythm.
E
Let me. I'll just say two things. One, I don't necessarily agree it's a performative argument. I think the person could actually believe that. I don't think that's.
B
I think Link believes it.
E
Yeah.
B
I don't.
E
I don't think he's just. I don't think he's just putting on. You might hate the, you might hate the idea, but I see why you'd say it.
B
I mean, he's on brand with this stuff, though. This is what.
E
But if you believe, if you're out there as a fan and you believe the only thing that can keep you from a championship is losing one of those Big three players, I do understand why you'd be nervous about this particular kind of injury that can be re aggravated. While I also agree with you, though, it's not the move now, if, now if you win, if you're up 30 heading into game four and you think, you know and you're getting any sense that you don't want to give him a heavy load on in Game four.
B
Okay, different.
E
That's a different conversation.
B
The smart thing to have done here is just say no. Next call.
E
Yeah, no, I don't think so.
C
I don't think so. Well, listen, I enjoyed. I enjoyed. We spent a minute yesterday on a
A
guy who said OJ Was the reason that the Knicks lost in the final.
B
Did I miss that call?
A
You did.
C
Here's the thing. Here's another yo yo. Here's another one. Ill prepared. At least Lang was prepared. We just disagree with him.
B
Okay.
C
The caller yesterday was right after the HD thing where the guy called him and said he blamed O.J. for them losing in 94.
B
Why?
C
Because he goes. Because it happened in game five, and it, it, it killed their momentum and kind of ruined everybody. Everybody was watching that instead of the game. It was game four. It wasn't game. Well, it was six. Six. He said it was in game six.
B
Yeah.
C
No, it was in game five. He thought it was in Houston. The game was at the Garden. So he, first of all, blaming OJ Was a yo yo opinion anyway. But the reason we spent a minute on it because it was another caller ill prepared with misin. We had the wrong year for the finger roll. And that was followed by the wrong game for OJ and he said, I was watching it. Well, you were obviously squinting your eyes because you thought Madison Square Garden was Houston.
B
Yeah. Was the summit, when instead Bob Costas was courtside at the Garden. In fact, that's literally what he says. And people were watching on TV monitors in the Garden.
C
No, I'm telling you, Alan, don't ever leave again. I understand you got an mhg, but really, the weirdos come out at night
B
after you le the creeps come at it.
A
Lang was on this wall for a
C
long time for a reason. He's Trying to get back.
B
Yeah, that's a good point.
C
Lang is.
B
He was banned.
C
He was banned because he does come up with like, listen, I give Peter credit for trying to make it work for him, but I know the cut of his jib. I know where he's coming so.
E
But whatever that part's, you know, the person individually may be that I don't think the question is all out insane. I get it. It's not. It's not an insane thought to say I'm nervous about OG and anobi's availability the finals. It's not an insane thought because you know that. So OG goes often is the way the Knicks go. So I get being concerned about it at this point. Everything's going so well. It's logical to look for how could this thing get derailed the most. The most likely way that this thing would get derailed at this moment, sadly, and God really won't happen, is an OG Anunoby injury. That's the most likely thing.
C
Right. But, you know, I'm sure Brunson's feeling something. He probably would like a day off too. Can't afford to lose him. Well, how about play the entire bench? You're up 3 0. Anyway. Give everybody a rest.
E
But Brunson's not dealing with anything.
C
At least they're all dealing with something at this point.
B
Can we not talk? Let's just not speak this out.
E
What are we doing? What are we doing here?
C
Is this amateur?
E
We're not a bunch of fanboys.
C
Role of Michael K is being played by by Don Legrec. It's time to break.

Joe Shane signs a contract extension with the New York Giants and it's kind of interesting. Many people, myself included, felt like, you know, a clean house. Dable Shane let him go move on, but he stuck around because I guess he was going to help with the transition. And actually it was labeled as he was going to help find the new coach. Ends up being John Harbaugh. They work together, they deal with the draft. John Harbaugh likes him and he keeps them. So I'm all for that. If you're on board with John Harbaugh, you got to be on board with his decisions. But I thought about a little more guys, and I'm just thinking that what the Giants did by extending Shane is they doubled down on what they thought the problem was and that was Brian Dable. They basically have told you that the debacle that has been the Giants over the last few years was a Brian Dable problem and they got rid of him. Shane stays. They obviously didn't think he was the problem. They replaced Abel with, you know, a future hall of Fame coach. Aren't they telling you guys that problem solved?
B
I think so. I think first thing that you acknowledge is that Shane and Dable were sort of a collaborative, right? They were not one wasn't in charge of the other type situation. That changed when John Harbaugh showed up. We all know who's running things, right? So Joe Shane's new boss is the head coach and his willingness to work in that situation. And you know, like I, I think Harbaugh probably wanted to see like, all right, let me work with these guys. I, I, I'm sure the Marist probably said, you know, we like him. He's done Some good things. See what you want to do with them. We'll leave it up to you. And from what I know, they went through the draft process. John liked what he saw and was like, yeah, we can work together. I think we can do. I'm fine because I'm still making the final decision anyway, so you're working for me. And Joe was quite happy to do that.
C
And if you like this roster, I mean, a lot of it is him. You know, if you're excited about Dart, well, he traded back into the first round to get Dart. You're excited about Neighbors. Hopefully he'll be okay. It's not sounding great about him being ready for the season, but from a career standpoint, you're happy he's here and. And he drafted him. So I don't think there's reason to celebrate the extension by any stretch of the imagination, but I also don't think there's any reason.
B
Continuity, stability, you don't. You don't put any value into any of that stuff.
E
I mean, except it all gets thrown out the window if things go really bad. They'll end up getting out of it anyway. So if things, if things all go

bad, they're tearing it up that Harbaugh would come in. And if he just does, you know, I'm not vibing. I'm not feeling this like he just. He would like, you know, we'll move on.
E
Well, that, that. No, I guess. I guess the best part, Don, to Alan's point, would be it shows that they're at least good with each other. So, you know, the head coach and him like each other, and that's a positive to know that there's some, you know, some. Some gel there is good.
C
Yeah. And. And I guess that's. If you believe in John Harbaugh, then I guess you got to believe that him wanting Shane to stay has some value. Ray Robertson, Harris, defensive tackle, out for the year. Now the Giants have lost two. Obviously, they traded Lawrence and now they lose Harris. Now, Harris played every game last year, but he didn't have a great season.
E
There's a reason they got him for $4 million.
C
There's a. But I really believe in my heart that you can make the case. At least 75% of the reason why a team wins is because of their coaching. And I think that Harbaugh is going to figure it out. Now. I also think people are silly to think all of a sudden they're going to win 10, 11 games and win the division. I mean, I think it's Going to be a little bit, maybe not a slow burn, but it's going to take a while for them to find it. I think they'll be successful this year to a point. But you know, the roster is the roster. But I have faith that they'll, that Harbaugh will figure it out. So I'm not going to get nuts with every injury, with every lost player. I think Harbaugh knows enough what he's doing that he'll be able to piece together a team that's going to be a lot more competitive than it's been over the last few years.
B
But the losing Robertson Harris is not insignificant at all.
C
Of course not.
B
Here's a guy that was, you know, Jordan Renan said he's probably the starter at detach.
C
But.
B
And so you now have to find a starter. And I know they, they signed. Remind me after they made the trade they did, they signed a veteran and I'm trying to remember the name. Yeah, I'm slipping me right now.
C
Right now.
B
Yeah, but, but, but still, like that's depth you need there. It's a starter and it's depth that you needed that position. That was already a bit of an issue for them to stop the run. So it is an area now where Joe Shane now with his new multi year contract extension is probably got to go find somebody.
C
Well, I mean, you didn't lose this guy in the last preseason game. You lost him in the middle of May. I mean, so there's plenty of time to.
B
Tackles don't grow on trees, my man.
C
No, they don't.
B
That's why they get paid what they get paid.
C
Yeah, but also we're talking about a team that had both Lawrence and Harris on a team that still couldn't stop the run. Like, so there was a lot of issues with this team then I think most of it was coaching. The Giants are telling you that it was coaching based on the decisions that they made, especially on the defensive side of the ball. So we have that.
B
What about the Malik neighbor stuff before you get.
C
Yeah, you know what? You worried about that because now all
B
of a sudden it's not, you know, first we were told that's just a cleanup. Now all of a sudden it's, it's not that simple of a thing. And you know, he is working on rehab, but John Harbaugh is not really sure how soon he'll be.
C
No one is committed to him being ready for opening day.
B
Wow. Opening day meeting, week one.
E
But we have, we've been here. Yeah, it's been Sounding like it's been sounding like a month into the season
C
for a while now, you know, and if you're talking about doubt for the season in May and now, now I got to wonder when are you going to be available?
F
Yeah.
C
And how much of an impact can you have on the season if you're going to miss maybe the first few games, which means you missed the training camp and now it's going to take you a few more games to kind of get going. And all of a sudden we don't actually have malik neighbors at 100% until like November. That's a problem. A problem for your young quarterback. It's a problem scoring points.
E
I don't want to, I don't want to be that guy and I don't want. And I don't feel like having Tess Thursday. I don't feel like having Tessa call to yell at me.
B
Oh boy.
E
Because it would sound like I'm here to just poo poo the Giants and I'm not. But to go into a season super excited about the offense of this team led by a quarterback who showed some things. But again, I remain one of the holdouts who does not think he's a bonafide hall of Famer yet. I think we've got some work to do before we know you have the
B
guy anybody's calling a Hall of Fame.
E
You know what I'm saying? No, I don't think he, I don't think, you know, he's your forever starter.
B
Yeah.
E
I didn't listen, as I just said to Anthony during the break, if the jury is still out on Jaden Daniels, the jury's still out on Jackson, of course. So we don't, we don't know 100% we have there. We don't know if we have neighbors until October 1st. A lot of the offensive excitement that people had last year was put into an overachieving fullback who broke his everything and is going to be coming off of that next year. There's, there's some concerns about the offensive side of the ball in this team.
C
Well, I don't look at the Giants as it's got to be this year. I mean, this has Juan Soto vibes like, oh, you didn't win the World Series with him in his first year. Like, no, I, it's a long term thing. I'm trying to become relevant again. I want the Giants to start playing meaningful games in December again. I don't want them to be an embarrassment anymore.
F
Anymore.
C
But the thought of all they're going to win 10 games and be in the playoffs this year. Yes, that thought takes a hit when you hear about, and you hear about the problems on the defensive line.
A
65 or sooner.
C
That's the slogan. 65 or sooner. To me it's about getting this team back on track and having some respectability and just the hiring of John Harbaugh has done that. Now we'll see the moves that are made here. But yes, Peter, you're right. If you think this team's going to win nine, 10 games and be in the playoffs, that's taking a hit. But I don't, I don't think the relevancy of this team or them eventually turning a corner has yet. You're right about Dart. I think people have been a little quick to anoint him as the next star. But you have to like what you've seen and I think just having competency at the coaching position. Think about that. Your best coach over the last decade has been Dable because he won nine games in his first year and was coach and was coach of the year and that's not nothing. But otherwise, I mean what, what kind of confidence did you have in McAdoo or Shermer or Judge? Now you got, if you end up having a tough year, it's not all lost because John Harbaugh is my head coach now there's finally somebody as a grown up in the room now there's somebody that actually has a resume that doesn't have a name and a Social Security number on
B
is you've got a guy with a resume.
E
Yeah. And he got a couple of, and he got a couple of top 10 picks that you're really hoping to turn into something and as we know more often than not in the NFL at offensive tackle and linebacker you'd love to see them be impactful year one but you're thinking about year two and year three. So to your point. Yeah, this is about a build. I think there are a lot of people based on the high and because of the market we're in the excitement about a flashy looking quarterback like Dart and people started getting like playoff horny for 20, 26 and I don't know, I think you could have a year where you go 7 and 10 or 8 and 9 and feel that was a good step forward year.
C
Well, you look at a team, you say oh well you know, if we had Harbaugh we would have won the Lions game and if we had Harbaugh we would have won the Cowboy game. And then now they start, they start Adding wins based on. If we had a coach, we would have won eight games last year. So of course we're going to win eight games this year. Different schedule, different set of circumstances.
E
I love that there are Ravens fans going, if we didn't have Harbaugh last year, we would have won the Cincinnati game.
C
So you know, he's got.
B
That's how it always goes.
C
Yeah. So.
B
But let's also remember that you know, your schedule is going to include, you know, some pretty good teams. Right. When your schedules not going to be one, you're just going to roll through.
C
Well, when you're in the NFC east, you've got six tough games. Two with Philly, two at Dallas and two with Washington getting their quarterback back.
B
Did you guys play the win loss? Did I miss that?
C
No, we did not play it.
E
We waited for you.
B
You want to. You want to do the Yankee thing or do you want to do that?
C
I'd rather do the Yankee thing.
E
Wow.
A
I think we'll have a whole off season to play the win loss game.
B
Last I checked, the schedule won't change. I know, I know. It's always fun and I feel like I'm going to miss out.
E
No, we'll do it.
B
But yes, the Yankee we do have. There's a lot of Yankee things happening here.
A
And if we did it, if we
B
did it before the Roy Robertson Harris
A
injury, we'd have to completely change our entire outlook.
B
You know what? Honestly, you are being disrespectful to the defensive tackle position. Critical position. When you lose a starter, you are in a deficit on defense. They can't afford that.
C
65
A
or sooner.
C
Oh, God.
B
That is nails on a chalkboard.
E
No, you. I gotta tell you, I have a hot take. I think Alan hates Dave Rother.
C
No.
E
What do you think? What do you think?
C
You're not a fan.
B
At least say that I'm not a fan of that.
D
That.
C
No, no, no, no, no, no. You're not a fan of him because that's all he is.
E
That's. That's who he is.
B
He is.
C
It's a lot of.
B
Not all he is, but that his nails on a chalkboard. Sorry. Okay. I've had three hours sleep. The last thing I hear.
E
I want to hear one more time. I want to hear. Let me see if he's right.
B
I want to judge it.
D
Sooner.
E
No, that's. He's not wrong. That's terrible.
C
Nails on a chalkboard.
E
That's painful.
C
Never been a way to describe someone that you're a fan of.
E
That now that's also true that that thing.
B
Cuz he does the thing with his voice there.
E
Both are true.
B
He doesn't talk like that.
C
There's a lot of.
B
It's almost Cajun Don doing it. Okay?
C
So Cajun.
B
Don't take advantage of me because I'm sleep deprived, okay? Because now I got no filter. Be careful. Dump button. Get ready. That's funny. What I mean is he's got like a little southern thing going on when he does it. He doesn't talk like that.
C
That's always.
B
But when he does the 60, like that's not how he talks.
C
What that kicky gonna do?
A
Listen, Giants Dave has been in a
D
cage for a very long time. You want to put him back now?
B
I want you to be out of your cage. This is the problem.
E
Let him go.
B
If he was that bad, you want to unleash him, see how bad that sounds? That's terrible, man.
C
Yeah, but nails on a chalk, that
E
was almost Southern Don. That's. I mean Al. That's terrible man.
B
That's terrible man.
C
Terrible. That's terrible.

I know, Alan, you're knee deep, actually probably neck deep in the Knicks, but the Yankees just couldn't find it offensively. The last two games of the Blue Jays series. Just one run in the last couple of games, shut down by an opener and a bullpen last night. And you know Judge is really feeling it. So this is a big series coming up, starting tonight against the Rays because if they don't get it going, you already got a lead four in the loss column trying to catch back up with them. You don't want them to all of a sudden run away and hide. No, I still think you'll find a way because I think you're more equipped to improve as the season goes on. But this offense has just disappeared all of a sudden it has.
B
Again getting shut out in a game where they're using an opener. Blue Jays again, they're that team. It's just like the Rays are. They just kind of find ways with you. They needle you. But they, they've gone into an offensive slump. There's no question about it. And it's the usual suspects, of course. And then judges entered the Fray. The last 10 games isn't a home run or even an RBI. He's got like 14 strikeouts. He's the golden sombrero. The other night and he even admitted he's like, yeah, I'm not doing anything. Like I'm not, I'm not bringing it right now. He's allowed to have a slump. That's the problem though is because when they don't score and we see that he's going through a slump where we know he's A high strikeout guy at times. He will be a mess for a while till he recalibrates. And he does. We always recalibrates. And then he goes on a tear. But because the. Like, if everyone else was scoring and he was going through a slump, nobody'd say a word. But because the offense is producing nothing and your most important players going through a slump, it magnifies his slump right now. And I think that's unfair.
C
I just wanted to correct myself. You're four and a half back.
B
Okay.
C
But six in the lost column. Behind the race again. Still very, very early here, but it's just incredible. Rays just don't lose. And then the Yankees lost last night. The Rays had the night off.
B
So now one thing to watch. They have two righties going here.
C
Yeah.
B
And Garrett Cole tonight, too, which is definitely something to watch. Like, do you guys think. Because Cole is making his debut this season. Debut. Coming off Tommy John's first look at him in the major level. He has obviously had rehab starts.
D
But.
B
But you can't put a lot on this start. And if it's the raise. I know. So this is going to be. As Don just said, it's a value of 2. But I just want to see Garrett Cole going to get through it healthy. Show me a little something. We know he's got to work his way back. And if he's. If you're. If you lose because, you know, he gives you two good innings, but by the third inning, maybe it's fallen off and then they just kind of blow him up. I don't know. It's may. Can you get. Can you sacrifice that? You all right with it or is it. No, no, no. You got to win this game. And no matter what. Like how like Cole to get. The most important thing for me is Cole gets through it. He's. He finds a little something, a little rhythm, and we know he builds off it. And if he gives up some runs, it costs you winning the game. You got to move forward. You gotta. You can't focus on this.
C
You gotta look at it as losing the battle to win the war.
B
Yeah.
C
I mean, you could have him play. You know, you got pitch in Scranton tonight if you wanted to. But like, what's the difference? If he's ready, he's ready. Now you're probably going to be a little careful with him, but you're going to get him back into the rotation at some point. And what ever happens today is all in walking forward to him becoming the ace that he's supposed to be in this rotation and, and, and that's, that's all there is to it. I mean, so, yeah, you can't, you can't get caught up. It's one, it's May 22nd. It is early to start standing around what they are. Yeah. And yeah, you don't want to fall 7 back in the loss column.
B
Yeah.
C
But then you win the next two after that, you get back to five and you kind of stabilize things. Let's. It's a, it's as big A game as May 22 can present to you. Fair and a little bit bigger because Cole's going. But the idea tonight is let's get him back in the bigs, face some real batters because he's, you know, he's getting back and this is part of the process of getting back from Tommy John and it might as well be tonight as opposed to, you know, Scranton. And then the next first start is, you know, you're kicking the can down the road. Right. So let's do it.
E
It just happens.
C
The Rays, I get it.
B
It's just because of the opponent is. But like Radon, even, even last night, Radon wasn't terrible. I watched back as much as I could this morning just to get an eyeball on it, just to see what it looked like. He wasn't, he was fine. Like, he gave you a good start. He just couldn't get any runs.
C
You got scored at least.
B
He's like I've said, like, Radon's gonna have a couple of starts. He's got to get himself, he's got to get into his rhythm. He'll be better when the weather gets hot. We know that's how he is. The warmer the weather, the better he is. I think like as long as you have that going on, get the starters in line and get the rotation moving, get Freed back. Hopefully, you know, you know, Schlitler is, is the real deal. You got to feel pretty good about that part of it. The outfit, Caballero back tonight, maybe that starts to work. And a very interesting, one little thing to add here. Don't. A very interesting caveat all of a sudden is Anthony Volpe has worked his way back into favor. Not necessarily to be the long term shortstop, but now Boone said that on, on days he's not starting in the field, he's going to do some workouts at second base. Yeah, very interesting.
C
And the Rays going with Nick Martinez. He's 4 and 1 with a 1.51 earned run average.
B
Pretty good for.
C
He's raised Ford and kid, Fordham kid and raised.
B
He's doing it.
C
