Game time is brought to you by Tullamore Dew Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, Alan, it's talentime. It's folly time. Just one local in action. You're gonna have to stay up late to see it. Mets face the Mariners. That's going to be in Seattle coverage immediately following us and ty Butler at 9:00'. Clock, 9:40 is the first pitch as the Mets will start a six game Western Swing in Seattle and San Diego. Tullamore Dew, the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Iris whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew. Try the new Tullamore Dew honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. I say this with no shade thrown, but whatever you you want to say, I'm doing it. I don't care. Is that last night? Allen kind of alluded to it in the last hour. It felt if you felt lost, like something's missing, right? I should be checking on something.
Alan Hahn
There's nothing going on now.
Don Hahn
The Yankees gave you a little bit of a late feel. Like that game didn't end until like close to 7:30. But usually there's something on, right? There's an NBA playoff game. There's an NHL playoff game. Yeah, there's something going on, right?
Alan Hahn
And that's what done early.
Don Hahn
Mets were done early. Yankees were the you know where four o' clock start. But it was over. It's like, but like you're sitting there, it's like nine o'. Clock. Like I should be checking on something, right?
Alan Hahn
It's weird.
Don Hahn
Like you go from there's four things to check on, right? You got match, you got Yankees, you got Stanley cup playoffs, you got NBA playoff. There's like a million things going on. So all of a sudden having nothing like last night was really strange. Like the night before you had game seven, right?
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
On Friday you had the Mets and Yankees playing like it's so didn't it feel odd last night?
Alan Hahn
Friday was hockey too.
Don Hahn
After eight o'. Clock. Yeah. And now you got. Then you go from everything to nothing for. And you got Mets tonight again, it's 9:40. So you can still have that feeling like at 9:00 clock you're sitting down like all right, put the kids to bed. Right. You just finished up whatever you had to do and no, but this time
Alan Hahn
of year because of the playoff, because you do get into this condition for every other night. There's you know, Western Conference, Eastern Conference. Western Conference, Eastern Conference. And it threw all the rounds and then you have both sports, you have hockey and basketball. So there's just non stop stuff going on. Plus the baseball tossed into it and all of a sudden it just kind of got real quiet real fast. Now that's going to go away though, of course. As we know.
Don Hahn
Oh yeah.
Alan Hahn
In the next couple of days and then we'll have that every other night. But on top of it, Don, this coming weekend, not only are the NBA finals coming to New York for games three and four, you're also getting the US Open coming to Shinnecock and of course the World Cup.
Don Hahn
I know two things that what the hell if they. It's what the hell from a traffic standpoint. But the legrack a home again. If they're. If it's happening in my backyard, I'm turning the hose on, right? So you talk about two things that I do not care and I'm not even going to listen if it gets me. I can't feign. Why would you want to know what Donald Greco thinks on those two things when I'm telling you there's zero interest, no, none, nothing, zero at all in
Alan Hahn
your take on if Peru could make a run in the World Cup?
Don Hahn
No, I don't even know if that's a thing. Is that I don't either. I know it's a country. I don't know.
Alan Hahn
I thought about a country that probably plays soccer and just went there.
Don Hahn
First thing I think about Brazil be too easy.
Alan Hahn
That's obvious. Argentina. Those are easy.
Don Hahn
And it just shows you how uncultured I am. The first thing I think of when you say, well, two things that come to mind with Peru. All right. The first thing that comes to mind is in better off dead when the mom says that they're going to have all French stuff because of the French foreign exchange students. So they have French bread and she holds up the bottle of Perrier Peru and what's the bear's name? Paddington. Paddington was From Peru. And then they had Paddington goes back to Peru. Move it. So I'm a completely, I'm an uncultured.
Alan Hahn
That's. I don't know what else to say.
Don Hahn
So but the shade I'm gonna throw. And this is not because we don't have it anymore. But there was a time in my life where like, like last night on my. No matter who was playing Sunday Night baseball would have still been a thing for me. Let me check in and see who's on Sunday Night Baseball. Not even a thought. No, not, not. And again, I would say that if ESPN re upped with it, was it,
Alan Hahn
was it Cubs, Cardinals, what was it something like that? It was two teams. I'm like, all right, I, I, I get this.
Don Hahn
It's not nothing.
Alan Hahn
This is national. But I'm not watching.
Don Hahn
There was a time, you know, now,
Alan Hahn
but am I wrong? Like, I thought it was Don and
Don Hahn
Peter with you until seven. And then we were going to have the great Brewers Pirates game coming up at 7 o'.
Caller 1
Clock.
Alan Hahn
Brewers Pirates.
Don Hahn
That. And, and that was you when I said the great. I was expecting to see Alan Hannah next, right? And then I saw Brewers Pirates and I, I tried to pivot.
Alan Hahn
Let me see, what was the, what was the game? What was the scenario?
Don Hahn
I think, I think you're right. I don't, but I, again, I don't know. But is that, am I the only one?
Alan Hahn
I got Cubs, Cardinals. Yeah, I was right.
Don Hahn
But, but so like two rivals, so they lost me. But it used to be a big deal and I clearly, if, if the Mets or Yankees were playing, then there would have been something last night. Right? But you know, watching the Cubs, Cardinals, that's, that was not in my, that
Alan Hahn
was not something you were ready to just like.
Don Hahn
But you're right if you're, if you're like, like, like, obviously we're all into the NBA, but even though it's not a sexy matchup, Vegas and Carolina, I think it's gonna be a hell of
Alan Hahn
a series tomorrow night.
Don Hahn
I'm gonna watch the Stanley at least beginning tonight, at least for the next, you know, few days. Rest of the week. There'll be something every night. NHL, NBA, NHL, NBA. And it's kind of what we had in 94 when it was like Rangers, then it was next Rangers. That was just amazing.
Alan Hahn
You can't even describe that because that was too local. Just back and forth like that. That just had everybody, like the Garden was the place to be. Like you just went every night and that's.
Don Hahn
And it hasn't been close since really.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don Hahn
I mean, because now it wasn't that long ago Rangers were going conference finals, and in 2014, they went to the Stanley cup final and the Knicks were awful or not 13.
Alan Hahn
Right. 13 was when both teams, The Knicks got at least advanced around 13.
Don Hahn
In 13, they both made it to the second round.
Alan Hahn
Second round, Right.
Don Hahn
The Rangers lost to Boston in the second round, and then the Knicks lost to Vienna in the second round. So they were both in the second round.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
But since then, it's like, one's good, one's bad.
Alan Hahn
Is that the last year both teams won a playoff series in the same year?
Don Hahn
It has to be, because. All right, before the Knicks played, obviously lost to the Pacers.
Alan Hahn
Well, no, no. More recently.
Don Hahn
No, no, no. You know, it was. It was a couple of years ago
Alan Hahn
because I remember joking. The Rangers had the year that the Knicks were supposed to have, and it was. They got to the conference finals and the Knicks didn't.
Don Hahn
So it was three years ago when the Knicks lost to the Pacers. They're in the second round. The Rangers, they advanced to the conference final.
Alan Hahn
There it is.
Don Hahn
So they both played in the second round, the Rangers event. Because I remember I did three of the four games of that series against Washington in the first round. And so I was basically in D.C. for like three, four days doing games three and four of that series. And on the off nights, I'd be at the bar, know, watching the Knicks. Knicks were playing the Sixers.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
So that was kind of a cool back and forth, but still felt like, you know, the Knicks maybe, but the Rangers were you know, gonna, you know.
Caller 2
Right.
Don Hahn
Like, it felt like the range. You know, they won the President's trophy that year and they were gonna. They were gonna make a run. And. And that. That's why you got to appreciate all. What's going on. Nick fans, I'm telling you because I do hear a lot of us. The beginning of. Stop. All right. It might be, you know, for all I know, they might win for the next five titles. I wouldn't bet on it because it doesn't seem like the NBA headed that way. But. But you have to appreciate the moment. Ranger fans will tell you. All right, Two of three years, they went to the conference file. Now they're in a complete rebuild. Right. Missed the playoffs now two straight years. It doesn't feel. It feels like it was a hundred years ago. They were in the third round of the playoffs and it was two.
Alan Hahn
All right, I'm going to say something. Don't Be careful. Yeah, I'm gonna piggyback what you're saying, because I'm gonna say something that I. I tell a lot of fans when I meet them in various places and you talk with them and stuff, and they always. They want to ask you about chances and all that stuff. And. And I just keep. You know, people are caught up in the run, and you should be. This is. I. I keep telling everybody, these are the glory days, right? Like, the. This is. This is the time period that you will talk about to your kids. And like, we talk about those 90s teams and how. How many times. Five, six years ago, whenever we'd bring up the 90s Knicks, how many times did young Nick fans just roll their eyes like, here we go again, right. Anthony. Anthony does it all the time. Rolls his eyes. 90s. Oh, yeah. I don't. I hardly remember them. And it's fair because, Don, you and I think of the 90s like it was like, two weeks ago. I know, but we don't realize that to other generations, they're like, guys, you know how long ago that was. And all you got to do is put the perspective of 54 years since the Rangers won their Stanley cup in 94, 53 years since the Knicks won their last championship. And like, in 94, we thought 54, 1940, man, that's forever ago. We don't think the same way. Right. So time is different the older you get. But this run, whatever comes of it, has still given you enough glory days type conversation. What you want, though, is to have that pinnacle of winning the championship. So now these days feel more like when the. When the grandfathers talk about the 70s, because none of us can even imagine what that's like. We weren't around for it. We didn't see it. It doesn't feel like modern era. That's why I feel like this team is. The Knicks are playing a team that feels like they're the team of now and future. The Knicks know they're a team of now. They're all 28 to 30 years old. They're in the sweet spot when it comes to experience prime of your career and the understanding that the opportunity is now for them and it might not be as good as it is ever again as it is right now. And I wonder if they'll play with an urgency to win that, like, almost urgency, desperation, all those things you cannot. Like somebody called earlier saying, complacency, don't want to be complacent. I don't expect that. I expect them to play Desperate like they know this is our chance and if we can't let this go.
Don Hahn
But you just said a mouthful with these are the glory years.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And for Nick fans of another generation, the glory years were Ewing and Oakley and Starks.
Alan Hahn
And they didn't come with a ring
Don Hahn
and they didn't come with a ring and you know, this weekend and it didn't get a lot of attention, but you know, Bobby Valentine and Lee Mazilla were inducted into the Mets hall of Fame. Now Lee came back and won in 86, which I think was great, but Lee was put in there because he was the kid got called up and hit the home run in the all star game in Seattle. You know, Bobby Valentine, you know he's in there because of 99 and 2000. Like you're celebrating the also rans again. I'm not trying to take anything away from Bobby. I'm just saying that I think some fan Nick fans feel this. You're tired of your heroes being the also rants.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
That the greatest generation is for you. A team that almost won.
Alan Hahn
Well, think about it. I'll let you go. It's just the Starks dunk was in a series that they lost. The LJ four point play was in a series they won but then didn't win the championship. Like these are moments that are celebrated and they. As they should be because they are in the, in the moment. Great moments. But you still. So. So what? You know, how do you finish the book when you tell the story of those moments? Yeah, they didn't win. And that's, that's the part that kind of takes this, it takes the wind out of it. All the stuff that happened in 86 with the Mets, all those miracle games and unbelievable comebacks and Dykstra home run, obviously the, the Buckner play, but that's beyond that. I'm talking about the Houston series before that. They led to an epic.
Don Hahn
It's a, it's, that's what I'm trying to tell these fans is why you want the championship so badly. I'm able as a Mets fan to look at the Ventura grand single as an embarrassment because I saw the 86 World Series. So to me I'm not taking any gratification of extending a series they eventually lost anyway. You know, and as great as Piazza was and as great as Alphonso was and as great as Al Leiter was and like all these guys that were a part of those 99, 2000 teams and to a certain generation they are the gold standard to Me, it's again, it's also ran. So if you're like an older Knick fan that lived through 70 and 73, I wonder if you still hold that, those, those 90 teams in high regard or you just look at them as the osr. Of course, you know, and, and the same goes for in other, in other teams too. Like I've talked about it with Dave Maloney. Like, you know, those, that 79, those 72 and 79 teams for the Rangers were celebrated, you know, and then once 94 came, it's kind of forgotten about. It's a shame for Dave because they almost won in 79. Almost won. But once you win, that becomes the thing, you know, and I. And it would really be a shame to have Cat and Brunson and OG fall into the Ewing, Starks, Oakley category of the also rants. This franchise deserves to have that moment and these Fans deserve it. 53 years, I venture to say what, 90% of our audience wasn't around in 73. 80%, something like that. I don't know.
Alan Hahn
It's gonna be a high number.
Don Hahn
Obviously Spike was around, Richard was around. Like there's certain guys that call, but
Alan Hahn
you gotta be over 60 to really remember.
Don Hahn
You gotta be over 60 years old.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And even though, and even the people that were around in 73. Hey, is it, is it too much to ask that every half a century you win a championship?
Caller 3
Right?
Don Hahn
Is it too much to ask Jet fans too, man? Like I again, I'm not, I'm no Jet fan, but you know, I worked 16 years for them, talked to their fans for two hours after every one of those miserable laws like they did. They deserve a certain fan bases deserve it. You know, and I'm not saying that, you know, that Yankee fans wouldn't. Shouldn't celebrate a championship or Giant fans shouldn't celebrate a championship.
Alan Hahn
It's difficult, Don.
Don Hahn
But dude, man, when, when you've never seen it and you're a grown ass man and you've got kids and grandkids possibly and haven't seen your favorite team win, or when you did see him when you were in diapers or in first grade. Come on, man, you deserve this.
Alan Hahn
This is going to hit. Like, first of all, I do. Without giving any predictions away, I do feel really good about this team. I, I really do. I feel good about their chances. There's something about a team of destiny and, and when a veteran team just kind of like they've been through some wars and some losses and some pain and they just know like like, this is, this is our time. Like, we gotta go, you know, again her Brooks. Now go out there and take it. Right? Like that's that kind of what it feels like.
Don Hahn
It feels like that. But you got to go out and do it.
Alan Hahn
But you have to do it. And, but, but for me, from a personal standpoint of what you're talking about, about fan bases and, and people who have been through staying with a team is that I've seen the Yankees win seven. No, six championships, seven in my lifetime. And I was a fan throughout all of it. I've seen the Islanders win four in a row and really get to the fifth one, which I thought for sure they were going to win because they just, they had the number of the Oilers. It's just they, they ran out of gas, they got old, they broke down and they, they lost that, that final, but they lost it with dignity. But still, that was a hell of a run. We'll never see again. So with that in mind, I still feel like this one, like, I, I'm thinking about it just to prepare myself emotionally because I have to be on air. If they win, I'll be on air moments after it's over. How will I handle it?
Don Hahn
Like, how will I. I don't know, because I.
Alan Hahn
This will hit totally different than anything I've ever experienced in my life when it comes to following professional sports.
Don Hahn
I'm so envious of you because, listen, I got, I got the runs with the Rangers. I, I, I was able to go, well, I was there in 14.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Don Hahn
15. I was there, you know, calling games, you know, in 22 and 24.
Alan Hahn
Well, doing the Kings.
Don Hahn
That was amazing.
Alan Hahn
What an experience.
Don Hahn
No, it was just. And being over, I don't think. God, I was just so nervous in the, you know, they were in overtime. Game one, Stanley Cup Final. I mean, that's like, oh, my God, I can't believe I'm doing this.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
But it still wasn't my team. It became my team because I wanted to see them win. Of course, you know, and I had been with them since 08, and it's natural.
Alan Hahn
Don't.
Don Hahn
But. But it still wasn't my team. The jets, the same thing. Conference final or the championship game in 2009 and 2010. Me and Buddle doing shows. We traveled to New England, we traveled to Pittsburgh, we traveled to Indianapolis. We were there, and it was amazing. And it would have been incredible if they had won the Super Bowl. To be at the super bowl and the jets still, it wasn't my team. And we'll see if the Devils ever get there. We. What I'll be doing, because I'll be doing the games in the first round, but I don't know if they'd have me doing as much that you're doing if they ever did make a run. But to be able to do what you're doing for a team that you grew up following, I mean, that. That's. That's amazing, man. I'll. You'll. You'll be one of the guys that I'll be the happiest for.
Alan Hahn
Spike.
Don Hahn
Spike's going to be up there. You. But to be. But to work it. And that. That is going to be. Must see tv when that clock zeros out on whatever game they win the championship. You got to watch msg. You got to see my guy Alan on how he handles it. Will he be euphoric? Will tears be flowing out of his eyeballs like. I don't.
Alan Hahn
Don't even know.
Don Hahn
You don't know.
Alan Hahn
And if they lose, I don't know how I'll be either, because it might be just one of those. Like, I'm. I. I really. I've thought about this real morbid thought I had over the weekend. Just quiet moments, just thinking. Get yourself prepared for what's going to be two weeks where I'm just gonna be. It's 247 and I know it and I'm ready for it. I want it. But I said, like, it's gonna be really hard if they lose. Like, if they. It's gonna be really hard. Like, just. Just.
Don Hahn
It depends on.
Alan Hahn
I might have that realization at my age. Okay. I'm never going to see them win a gym. Like, I might. I might have that gut.
Don Hahn
I.
Alan Hahn
That. That's. That. That sick feeling in my gut. If they don't do it this year, I may never see it in my life.
Don Hahn
And. And I guess that now goes down. Right. That's tough because I don't think this is in the cards at all. But, like, if they got swept, I think by game four, it would probably be something you'd be able to handle because you'd know there would be.
Alan Hahn
Well, once you go down three. Zero, then.
Don Hahn
Then you're not doing it.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, you get down three. Oh, you're.
Don Hahn
You let go, you know, a heartbreaking overtime. Game seven. I. You would. Instant Emmy. At least you'd have that right, that you didn't pass out. They'd give you. You give you an Emmy. But like that. And. And Breen, too. I'm curious. Like, honestly, Breen's admitted it. But. And Breen's a pros. Pro. Yeah, but can you imagine the emotions calling that.
Alan Hahn
No, no, I.
Don Hahn
And even like as we talked about this, and we'll get into it more as the series goes on. It's only a handful of people that have been able to call a championship on television nationally for the team that they do play by play for during the year. Doc Emmerich comes to mind and Doc did a phenomenal job. But, but you know, Doc, Doc didn't grow up in Devil fan. There were no Devils when he was following the sport. He was, he was emotionally committed to them. But when they won in 95 and he called it for Fox, he had only been doing the Devils for what, like five, six years. You know, obviously Joe Davis, he's only been doing the Dodgers for a couple of years and then he got to call the championship the last two. But he's unique. For Mike, this is, this is uncharted territory of a guy this committed to as a fan and as an announcer to be calling his team's championship.
Alan Hahn
If he gets emotional and it's again, it's national, do you blame him if he can't hold it back? You can't. Right. Like it's, it's. You could be as professional as you possibly can. There's a human moment there.
Don Hahn
It's got to be the biggest challenge of his career. Let's hope, let's hope we get there.

Don Hahn
I think that's Friday, right?
Alan Hahn
Wait, wait. We might have three.
Don Hahn
We might have.
Alan Hahn
We will have had five games by then, right? No, the fifth game is on Saturday. Okay. So we could be two. Two. Yeah, we could be three one.
Don Hahn
I have my prediction tomorrow, but the way I'm feeling it.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
That the winner of game one wins
Alan Hahn
the series 70% of the time.
Don Hahn
But I think the reason I say that is because I think it's going to go every other. Oh, like it's going to go Nick Spurs. Nick Spurs. Nick Spurs.
Alan Hahn
Back and forth. Huh? Spurs also have never lost an NBA Finals game one. I mean, none of these guys were on those teams. I know. I'm just. Listen, I'm just. Chance.
Don Hahn
I love the host. Stats are completely.
Alan Hahn
ESPN puts out these. All the. All the history stuff, which I find funny because. But it is historical. People love historical data. And so they'll want to say that's the first time they've ever lost a game. Like, they'll do that. But anytime it's that Warning because his fans would do that to me. They'll come up to me like, you know, they never lose game ones. I'm like, really like Sean Elliott playing this game. No, like it. Like that doesn't matter. But after that you could say, hey, you know, this franchise just never loses game once. That's. You know, Wally always kills me for useless stats on the MSG postgame show when I come up with stuff like this. So I, I will agree that that's one of those useless.
Don Hahn
Yeah, but I think all stats are useless because the moment everything's right in. In life. But, but it's a, it's a, it's a way to. What's the old Vin Scully thing about like us with a stat? There's like a drunk leaning on a lamppost that should be for illumination, not support something.
Alan Hahn
Oh yeah, that's. Yeah, that was. Josh Hart said that.
Don Hahn
Yeah, but analytics are like a lamppost.
Alan Hahn
Right. They're good to lean on, but they won't get you home.
Don Hahn
Right. The same. But it's a nice little foundation. But.
Alan Hahn
Oh, it is.
Don Hahn
And let's. That 70% stat to me is way more important like in history.
Alan Hahn
How about this one? So teams that sweep that face a team that went to a seven game. So. Right. So the Knicks are the team that swept.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
Spurs of the team that went to seven when they meet in the finals. This will be the ninth time that situation happens.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
How many times do you think the sweep team wins? Eight in the first eight times?
Don Hahn
I'll say eight.
Alan Hahn
All eight times.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
No. What's it, Five out of the eight.
Don Hahn
Okay. Yeah, I have three.
Alan Hahn
Is not. Remember, not what you think.
Don Hahn
Because history, especially with the NBA where there was only a handful of teams that could win and you usually kind of go off of the same. Not, not that it's scripted, but the same script of like the best teams win.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Like the NBA was the one sport where the best teams win. So if you're so good, you swept the conference final and you're going up against a team that had to go seven in their conference final, most likely the team that swept is a way better team.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
But I wouldn't say that's the case here. Knicks could be better. Not way better. So I don't know if that's as much of an indicator. And plus with the rest that the spurs are still going to get without having to travel and three full days off, they should be okay.
Alan Hahn
They should be fine.
Don Hahn
But it's, it's still interesting. I just think it's going to be a great back and forth series. It's going to be a lot of fun. Now my quick question before we go to the busy calls.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Is that Joe Davis got a lot of heat last year, if you remember, for hosting the Dodgers parade.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Hahn
But Breen would have to host it if the Knicks won. Right.
Alan Hahn
Oh my God, who's it who.
Don Hahn
No offense to Tyler Murray, he's been here five minutes compared to Mike Breen. Yeah, like. But is he going to get the same shade?
Alan Hahn
Well, first of all, if you're doing the Canyon of Heroes thing and then you got to go to. Is it City hall or Gracie Mansion? Which one is it?
Don Hahn
City Hall.
Alan Hahn
They go to City Hall. Right. So if you go to City hall and you're going to do the whole thing there. Who's it. Who's. Who's doing the introducing who's. Who's emceeing this thing?
Don Hahn
You can't. I don't think, I don't think he would do it.
Alan Hahn
It's Mike.
Don Hahn
I don't think he'd do it.
Alan Hahn
Well then who does it if it's not him?
Don Hahn
Bill Peto.
Alan Hahn
Oh, damn.
Don Hahn
Well, because Troutwick would, would. Did it for the Rangers, right?
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Hahn
So Bill Peto is the new Al Trout wig.
Alan Hahn
It should be Bill.
Don Hahn
I mean, listen, I'd love you to do it.
Alan Hahn
I felt the way though felt the way that you didn't even pause. I didn't even go like, you know, did you see?
Don Hahn
I was just going. I was just going by the logic of the roles. Right.
Alan Hahn
For the record. I'm joking.
Don Hahn
All right.
Alan Hahn
You know, we'd be on remote somewhere. You'd be out. Sorry, Alan. Yeah, yeah, fair point.
Don Hahn
We're doing a roasting float. But you know.
Alan Hahn
No, no, I'd probably be too drunk anyway. I gotta be honest with you now. Not be right that day.
Don Hahn
And again, Tyler would do a terrific job knowing me.
Alan Hahn
I'd have get up and then we'd have a remote to do. So I wouldn't be able to go to the parade. Be too busy.
Don Hahn
But you know, if, but in now,
Alan Hahn
Bill would be perfect for it because he's, he, first of all, he's as invested as anybody emotionally.
Don Hahn
Right. And he's. And he's taking over the Troutwick role. So I would think that that would be. That would be logic. Trowig did stuff for the Knicks and Rangers just like Bill does stuff, you know, for both. So. Yes, I just think that, listen, Alan would be terrific.
Alan Hahn
No, no, you, you said Bill without Even pausing, like it's almost. If you. You. You drove right over me as an option.
Don Hahn
But I. I think Breen will be asked, and I think Breen will decline.
Alan Hahn
You think he will politely decline, but
Don Hahn
just for that reason is that. You know what? I. There's got to be separation here.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And that's why I think you were talking about how emotional he might get if they. I don't think he will. I think inside he will. But he will do.
Alan Hahn
He will. After. He'll hold it in. So. Well. Yeah.
Don Hahn
But it is a very unique situation to be in, for sure. All right. 1-800-919-3776. Blanderson, Hooper, you're on. Don Hanna, Rosenberg.
Caller 1
How are you, gentlemen?
Caller 3
Good.
Alan Hahn
Don't say anything crazy.
Caller 1
Don't worry. I'm nothing crazy this time, though. All right, so listen, I've said to you guys before, I've been watching since 87, since I was 9, and 94 broke. It broke my heart. 99. I didn't think we had any chance. So it was. It was not the same kind of thing. I'm feeling relatively confident about this. I think it's going six or seven. I really think it could go either way. I mean, I'm. I'm crossing my fingers because, you know, I think that if they were to weep, you know, Alan, you're talking about how emotional you'd be on camera. I think I might weep like Michael K. Weeps when he has the chicken fingers at msg. But I wanted to ask you, Alan, about. About one person on the spurs in particular, and that's Stefan Castle. And obviously he's a really good young player, but, I mean, you've been watching him. We've all been watching him over the last couple weeks. And he has a tendency to play with a little bit too much emotion. He gets a little bit out of control. He does and he does. They do. You know, Dylan Harper had to pull him back or hold him down.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Caller 1
The other day. And I'm just wondering if that's something that the Knicks can try and exploit, like just get him off his game by going at him, maybe get him to do something that, you know, he shouldn't, you know, and maybe they can, you know, take him off his game.
Caller 4
Somehow.
Alan Hahn
I don't think that's a weak spot for him. I think what you saw was just how maddening it is to guard SGA when it comes to the officiating and the stuff he gets away with, the pushes, getting elbowed in the side of the head when he's doing a push off and they don't call it. And then they call you for the foul because you lunge forward like that, they make you crazy. Seven games having to guard that dude will, will set you off. And I think Castle, that's. That was emblematic of him knowing my job is to try to slow this guy down as best I can and deal with everything that comes with it, including the whistles. He was also turning the ball over a lot, which was getting in his head. He's like I said, this spurs team, all season long, those who have watched get up have heard me talk about them since March. And I'm telling you, I have said to everyone who'll listen, that team and those four guards, never mind Wemby, he's special. But the four guards, they have all of them. And I. Castle is one of my favorites, but I love all four of them for each, each thing that they bring. And he's really good and tough. He's six, six strong as hell. And he's going to give Jalen Brunson a lot of work this series. Like, he is going to really like. He's. He's going. Think about this, Don Stefan Castle, at 21 years old, who is a great player at UConn, he is going to go from having to guard, say, Gilgis Alexander for seven games. Now he's got to deal with Brunson. Like, that's a lot for a 21 year old to deal with every game. Your job is to deal with somebody that is seriously. It's like trying to hold sand in your palm, trying to keep it in your fist. Like it just slip. There's no way to hold on to it. And that's, that's what it's going to be. It's going to be maddening. And it's a different type because SGA is more of like slithery. And then he'll pump fake you into like drawing foul. He'll. He'll draw cheap fouls. He'll flop. Brunson is footwork and pump fakes and just little hesitations and then power that can drive you crazy and make good defenders look bad. So for. For Castle, if he doesn't have a migraine at the end of this whole thing, I'll be surprised because that's a lot of pressure to put on a young player. Let's go to Bobby.
Don Hahn
Bobby in Jersey City. You're on. Don Han and Rosenberg.
Caller 4
Hey, what's going on, guys?
Don Hahn
What's up?
Caller 4
I had a point to make on The Knicks. Don, can I give 20 seconds on the Odell thing that you were talking about earlier? Because I think I have a reason for you.
Don Hahn
Sure, go ahead.
Caller 4
I think the. Everything you said is right about how Odell, like, exposed the dark parts of the Giants organization at the time. I think the fan reaction to him coming back, he was the first Giant athlete to go viral. So there's a whole generation of kids who have grown up into young adults who experience sports through social media, and Odell is the poster child for what that became. So I think that's just pure nostalgia in that regard. Unlike you, it's like, take it or leave it with Odell. The point that I wanted to make about the Knicks. So this whole last week has been a celebration, rightfully so, of all the die hards who have ridden through the tumultuous times over the last 50, 27 years. Whatever you want to call it, I'm a Bandwagon fan. I don't love basketball enough to care about the results. When the team is bad. It's just like, you know, soccer, hockey, baseball. I have other sports that I love more than basketball. But I just hope that everyone who's going to be locked in on this, and I think this is going to be an amazing final, just try to take a moment to appreciate what this ride has been and what it could possibly be. You guys are big proponents of it, enjoying the journey while it's happening because you have to latch on to those moments. But you know, just everything, the pomp and circumstance of the finals, the Larry o' Brien trophy back on the court, the subway entrance outside the Garden. I just hope that all the people who have written so hard for this, that deserve this moment, just. Just try to enjoy every second about it. And like, game on, let's say it
Alan Hahn
really is because we don't do that enough. And a rare situation, too is you've had eight days to kind of bask in the glory of a conference championship, rather than like, you had to get over it within a day, right? Like that. Like that. This has been at least the opportunity to enjoy the moment and to have this feeling for a whole week of accomplishment before the last and final, you know, the most important level, right? This is the biggest level. This is the most important one to accomplish. But rare do you get the chance to just spend. Spend more than two days of really basking in it, enjoying it, celebrating it, you know, sharing, like, now I can't pass a Nick fan who doesn't yell out an obscure Nick player's name. If they win this thing, there should be a float or at least a show where it's all of the obscure Knick players over the years whose names have come up most often and how like you guys are celebrated as we survived you, which is an odd thing, but it's sort of what's happening. But yes, you really do need to enjoy the moment and enjoy the situation and then on top of it enjoy the style that this team plays. This is not a clutch and grab team. This is not a singular ISO centric team. This is a this is a team that has developed over the last two months into a pure basketball team, which I think this city really appreciates.

1-800-919-3776. Let's get back to the busy phones and talk to Deep. He's in the car. You're on. Don Hanna, Rosenberg. What's up? Deep. Deep. Bye, Deep. Let's go.
Alan Hahn
I guess we got to the end of the boys.
Don Hahn
Steve in New Jersey. You're on ESPN New York.
Caller 3
Hey, how you doing guys?
Don Hahn
Good, how are you?
Caller 3
I'm good, thanks. First, I want to I am going to be 80 years old in June, God willing. And I'm somebody that was there for both the 70s championship and the 73 championship.
Don Hahn
So what did a 27 year old Steve do in 73?
Caller 3
I was in the pharmaceutical industry.
Don Hahn
But I have to tell you that what they call it now, I have
Caller 3
you that the courtside tickets back then were $50. So wow.
Don Hahn
Yeah, that was still a lot in 73.
Ethos Life Insurance Advertiser
But.
Don Hahn
But that's not this much.
Caller 3
73. There's a lot. Well, I didn't sit courtside though. I sat in the blue seats that we used to call them and those were like, if I remember correctly, like $10. But I just want to say that I am extraordinarily happy for all Knick fans who are going to get to experience this now, especially my own kids and grandchildren who are die hard Knick fans and have always told me over the years how lucky I am that I got to see that. I was lucky enough I didn't get to go to any of the 73 games, but I got to experience two games in the 1970 playoffs that were two of the greatest in Nick history. One was game five of the finals against the Lakers where Willis Reed went down. That's the game that he got injured in and they were way behind. And then they came back with Dave Stallworth and Cassie Russell and Nate Bowman and Frazier and those guys. But I one of my favorite games was in the semifinal round against the Bullets and the Knicks. If you, you may or may not Remember the Knicks and that Bullets team were mirror images of each other. That's when Earl Monroe was still with the Bullets. And the night that I went, Willis Reed and Wes Unsell used to go at it. They were mirror images of each other the night that I went in the semifinal round. Willis Reed had 36 points and 36 rebounds that night. And you can not a lot of people talk about that game. But think about those numbers, 36 and 36. And I'll never forget walking out of the garden that night. John Condon used to announce all the scores. What everybody had, you know, this guy had this many points and this many rebounds or assist. And then he got to Willis Reed as we're walking out and he goes and Willis Reed 36 points. And then, and then he stopped because everybody knew that Willis had a lot of rebounds. We were waiting to hear he goes and 36 rebounds.
Caller 1
And the crowd erupted.
Don Hahn
See, that's what's. So you don't have that because you can't. People don't have to wait till the end.
Alan Hahn
They are on scoreboard.
Don Hahn
They got it on the scoreboard.
Alan Hahn
They didn't have a score. They didn't have a center court scoreboard back then.
Don Hahn
That is a great, great moment. Let's squeeze. Let's squeeze in one more. Brian and Sleepy Hollow, you're on ESPN New York.
Caller 2
Hey guys. Alan, I just want to say that I'm the guy that said like the post Nick win on MSG is like the post coital cigarette. You know, it's just, it's just a nice thing, you know.
Alan Hahn
You know, if only we could use that in a promo.
Don Hahn
Yeah, right.
Alan Hahn
But I don't think we could.
Caller 2
Yeah, it's great. You know, you're sitting back.
Alan Hahn
You know what? For you I might. If they win and we're doing the postgame after the championship, I might pull one. Pull out a cigarette. Just, just. And you'll know the joke. I won't light it, but I'll pull it out and I'll just kind of hold it. You'll know. That'll be for you.
Caller 2
Perfect. Perfect. So, Alan, I have the same fandom as you, so. But this like baseball was like caught on third for me because, you know, it's kind of boring when you're a kid. But just I. I just love this team and I just want to see them go down forever. And I'm starting to get a little nervous, but I do feel good. But I just know it's going to be a roller coaster. It's not going to be as easy as it was. Oh no getting here. But I feel real good and I just wanted. I love this team. I love the players, they're so likable. I just want to stamp them into forever and get all the friggin merch I can get. You know, have a good one guy.
Don Hahn
That's what you got to feel good about. But yeah, just, just buckle up because I think everybody would love a sweep and tie the NBA record for consecutive wins of the postseason with Golden State and lift that trophy and not have any sweat. But no, it's, it's, it's coming.
Alan Hahn
Not. Yeah, it's going to be a roller
Don Hahn
coaster these next two weeks. As much fun as it's going to be if they win. This is going to be kind of torture. Watch. I think these games are going to be close. I think these games are going to be fun if you don't have a dog in the fight. But for any kind of Nick and Spurs fans, it's going to be torture for two and a half hours to see who comes out on top. And hopefully at the end of the rainbow there's going to be that pot of cold and that's what you hope for.
