Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
Ty Butler
Two hours down, two and a half more to play with on a scorching hot Friday here in New York City. Ty Butler going till 630-800-919-3776 at tydbutler on Twitter and Instagram. My man John Jastremski. He hosts the New York New York Pod. He's also my colleague at sny. He's got the Yankee hat on. He joins us on the show. JJ on a little staycation, still joins us. I already know what you're reacting to. The Rodan news, man. You don't feel good about that one.
John Jastremski
No, you can't. I mean, listen, Rodon, beginning of the year, you're dealing with injuries. Now you're dealing with injuries once again. And it just goes to show you, Ty Butler, you can never have enough starting pitching. But you're right, dude, I'm enjoying the staycation. It's scorching hot in early July. The good news for the Yankees, they're lucky and they count their blessings that they play in the American League. That to me is the best thing the Yankees have going for them right now. They have problems. We're going to dissect them. I'm sure you're going to ask me a bunch of questions on it. But as you want something to feel good about this holiday weekend as we celebrate America 250. If you're a Yankee fan, it's a good thing you're in the American League.
Ty Butler
But hold on, I got to ask you this because you were heavy on the don't want Tarek school ball. Now does this injury change your mind? We've seen Cole struggle a bit. Freed is coming back, but, you know, still don't feel good about that injury. And now Radon's on the shelf. So have you now altered your perspective as it pertains to trading for Scuba?
John Jastremski
I'm so glad you asked me this because I got a tweet I literally opened up the phone and opened up the computer to come on your outstanding show right before I got out of the pool and somebody asked me this exact question and I just retweeted, no, it doesn't tie because I don't think this is a season ending injury for Rodon. Number one. Number two, I think the Yankees are fine from a starting pitching perspective. Cole's going to be good by the end of the year. Max Freed's coming back from an injury. Great. I expect him to pitch well when he gets back. Schlottler, I mean, the guy's the front runner for Vegas as far as the Cy Young is concerned. So you got to figure out your fourth starter. I am much more willing to go and take the prospects I use to go and get Tarik Scoville to go get Mason Miller. Like Mason Miller is such a better fit for the Yankees. And oh, by the way, dirty little secret, you can have Mason Miller for next year as opposed to Terry Scribble, who is the definition of a rental. There's no way in the world you're paying him. There's no way in the world you're resigning him. And I'm not a prospect hugger. You know this Ty. I'm not one of these guys who says, oh, we've got to hold on to every single one of these prospects. I'm cool making a move. I don't think Scubal is the all in move. And here's a little food for thought. I'm not sold. The Tigers are trading them. Dude, the Tigers all of a sudden are getting back in the race in the American League Central. The Central stinks. The wild card stings. I don't know what the value would be in return for Tarek Scoble. Don't be surprised, ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls, if Tarik Scubal is trying to pitch the Tigers into the postseason come August.
Ty Butler
Well, I mean, it helps when you sweep the Yankees, right, J.J. so this losing streak that has hit seven, they've now lost was 11 of 14. What do you think's the biggest issue right now?
John Jastremski
Well, the obvious tie. They're not scoring runs. This is where it's baseball. One on one, it's as easy as ABC. And 1, 2, 3. It's what you teach your kids, what I'm teaching my one year old daughter. These are the simple basics. You don't score, you don't win. The Yankees have not hit over the last 10 games. That's why their performance has gone in the tank. Paul Goldschmidt who is red hot, has gotten cold. Cody Bellinger hasn't had a hit in weeks. Ben Rice has gotten cold. I say all of that. That's the number one reason they're in this position. But I do want to bring this up with you because I think it's important. The Yankees, with all of the injuries on offense, not having Aaron Judge, not having John Carlos Stanton, not having Trent Grisham. I can't believe how excited I am to get Trent Grisham back in my life because he was raking before the injury. Nobody roasted Brian Cashman for that qualifying offer anymore. But I think what has really hurt this team, Ty, they have so many guys that have been out of position where to me, hey, you're not going to be a great offensive team with these guys out. Why isn't run prevention being prioritized? Why do I have to see Jose Caballero every single day playing a new position when he's by far and away the best shortstop on the team? Running Anthony Volpe out there is insulting to any of the Yankee fans. I don't care what people are going to say. Oh, well, he hit for a couple weeks. He stinks. Get him out of my life. I'm sick and tired of watching him. Send him down in a minor leagues and I've not seen the lineup. So you could break this news to me. Is Jose Caballero starting shortstop today?
Ty Butler
He is the shortstop tonight.
John Jastremski
That is a beautiful thing. I did not know that. This is why the Ty Butler show on ESPN Radio is where you want to be on a holiday weekend. I'm learning something new. You're giving me the news because I haven't been on Twitter all day. Like, that's the beautiful thing about being off today, Ty. I'm literally in the pool. I'm chat with you then after the pool, I'm going to watch the Yankees and the Mets. I'm calling it a day, baby. But not having that continuity within the lineup I think has really been problematic.
Ty Butler
All right, so I'll give it to you here. Grisham back in center field, leads off, followed by Ben Rice. Dominguez is in right, Bellinger in left. Goldschmidt first base. Chisum at second, McMahon's at third. He's back up from the IL. Caballero is at short. Austin Wells is your catcher. Garrett Cole's on the mound. So no, no Volpe in the lineup.
John Jastremski
Ty, let me say this. Other than the catcher spot, which needs to be improved at the trade, that line. Can I see that lineup basically rotate McMahon and Rosario at their base and let that be my everyday lineup. Now for the next two weeks, that's what I want the Yankees to do. And late in the game, if you have a lead, Hey, I was talking run prevention. Spencer Jones, you're in for Jason Dominguez. That's all very simple managerial stuff. Make it simple, stupid.
Ty Butler
Talking to John Jastremski, he of the New York New York Podcast and of S and Y, to your point, 17 errors in the last 12 games, that's just not going to be good enough for any team. Gary Cole, sneaky big start for him tonight because we were on TV and I spoke about this. I think our brains got hacked because he was so great when he first, you know, came back that we just forgot he missed an entire season. He's going to turn 36 in September, so there are going to be some bumps in the road. But listen, seven straight losses. We need you to go out there and perform. And so this is a prime spot for him to get the Yankees back on track against a team that you and I both know they have historically owned.
John Jastremski
You're absolutely right about the Minnesota Twins. I mean, the historical nuggets on this going back to, like, 2001, it's stuff you wouldn't believe. It's so crazy how dominant, how lopsided, how insane these stats have been between the Yankees and the Twins. And that's why it's like an automatic three wins. That's normally the way you look at it. Like winning two out of three against the Twins for the Yankees is like a disappointment. Yeah, it's like a disappointment because you expect to just go and beat the living daylights out of them. I think this series has some extra significance tied because of that losing streak. Because you know what's coming up? Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Yankees go to Tropicana Field. All of a sudden, now the Rays have grown some distance between them and the Yankees as far as the American League east is concerned. And you don't want to see this trickle away where you don't take advantage of the Twins. You're compromised. Going to play Tampa Bay, and all of a sudden you go to the All Star break and it's like, holy smokes, we're six out of ten, we're seven out, we're eight out of the loss column. These games matter. We learned that last year, despite the run differential advantage the Yankees have had over Toronto. Right. All year, myself included. I'm like, hey, Toronto's fraudulent. They can't keep Doing this, there's no way in the world it's going to continue in the playoffs. Well, they got home field. They played great in their building against the Yankees. Sound familiar? It sounds exactly like the Rays against the Yankees at Tropicana Field. And they matched up in an alds. You don't want history to repeat itself here. So I'd like to see the Yankees here get it in gear if they're serious about going and winning this American League East.
Ty Butler
All right, let's talk some Mets before we get to the NBA. Your biggest takeaways from the Steve Cohen presser. Let's start here. I did not like him rehashing what happened between Soto and Lindor. And I get that, you know, as media like we want our questions to be answered with honesty, but I just felt like there was a better way to answer it. And now your adding more fuel to what was a fire that felt like it had been flamed out. I didn't like that. What were your takeaways from this interview he did with the New York Post?
John Jastremski
You know, it's interesting. That was your biggest takeaway. I'll tell you mine. The idea that he is not necessarily optimistic about the 2027 season, that kind of raised my eyebrows and it makes sense. Ty, listen, they took all of their big prospects. They're already up on A team. A.J. ewing is here. Carson Bench is here. Noah McClain is here. The guys who were pitching a Triple A have stunk. That's why they are not here. So to hear Steve Cohen bluntly say, yeah, I don't know what 2027 looks like, forget about the labor negotiations and everything that brings to the table. I'm like, oh boy, that's. That's not super encouraging. I for one wasn't as alarmed about the Soto Windor stuff just because I think it's the worst kept secret in the world. We all know, unless you are planet delusional and you were not paying attention to any of this throughout the off season. There were too many smart and well connected people that told you being in the clubhouse every day, hey, Francisco and Lindor and Juan Soto don't really like one another. And you know what? Here's my thing about this. If the team was winning, nobody would care. I gotta be honest, I wouldn't care. They don't have to be best buds. They don't have to be going out for beers after games. They don't have to be going out to dinner. I don't care if you both hit and perform. Go and Just find a way to coexist within the clubhouse. And I think, more importantly, bigger picture. And this was not discussed, but it's something I would bring up to Steve Cohen if I had the opportunity to talk to him for a few minutes. You got to tell your general manager there is something to be said for finding and identifying guys that are better fits for this marketplace. I'll give you an example. Trade deadline. They added a bunch of guys that from a number sense and from a baseball sense, fit perfectly. Right. Ryan Housley, they need a reliever. Boom. Cedric Mullens, they need a center fielder.
Ty Butler
Boom.
John Jastremski
Nobody answered the fact that these guys had never been traded before and it was the first time they were traded. Oh, by the way, it's the first time you traded and you got to go to New York in the process. Is that individual going to be wired for everything that comes their way? But it was obvious watching Cedric Mullins and watching Ryan Helsley, they were not. They added guys this offseason that also were not wired to play in New York. There's been an adjustment period for Boba Shep. Maybe it gets better. Who the hell knows? But he's looked a little spooked playing here. Marcus Simeon, guy is Gold Glove defensive second baseman now. He shot offensively, but his defense dips. You tell me that's not the New York factor. I most certainly think it is. People say, oh, that stuff doesn't matter. That's Mr. New York being overblown. No, it's true. You have to have the right mentality in order to play here. That's why the guys on the Knicks have thrived. And I think Leon Rose has gone out of his way to. To identify players that have the right makeup, even if they might on the surface seem a little sensitive or, you know, whatever it might be. You got guys that fit the marketplace and played their best when the games mattered the most. That's lacking with the Mets. That's where the soul searching's gotta come in for David Stearns. Gotta do a better job of that.
Ty Butler
And that's what didn't make sense to me. Because, like, it's one thing for you to be bad, but at least there'd be some consistency. I just didn't understand the plan. So run prevention. And we've all brought this up. You bring in a bunch of guys who are playing out of position, and to your point, there was no scouting of could they play in this market. And so Steve Coleman says, you know, David Sterns is going to finish out this contract. But then when he's almost punting on 20, 27, you're going to allow three straight bad years with the amount of money you're spending with Lindor and Soto? You're two guys who may not get along, but they're the stars of the team in the primes of their career. You're just allowing those to go to waste. To me, that just doesn't make sense.
John Jastremski
Well, ty that guarantee, and I was surprised we got it from Steve. But if you go back and re. Listen to him with Joel and with John Heyman. I had Joel on my pod like 24 hours ago. He'll tell you, yeah, he said they're going to finish out the contract, more likely than not. He also said this is all subject to change. So to your point, if next year is another unmitigated disaster, they go and win 75, 80 games again. Steve Cohen is well within his rights to say, you know what? You're not finishing out that last year. Like, nobody's going to look at all. While you said on the, on the Joel John Heyman New York Post baseball podcast, they finish out the contract, all of a sudden things have changed. Right? Like, he did acknowledge things are subject to change. So I was guilty of that, too, because I was surprised that you got that sort of like, hey, this is what we want. But, hey, you heard from the Mets as of like a week ago before Friday, Carlos Mendoza, safe. So I'm. I'm always a little leery and careful
Ty Butler
that, you know, things begin to change. I've got two basketball questions I want to sneak in. Did you see my. My guy, Rich Paul? Because we talked about this the other day, say that LeBron was going to the Knicks had they not won a championship, much to the dismay of my man J.J. well, you know what, Ty?
John Jastremski
It's funny you say that. We had a passion debate in the SNY newsroom because you were stirring it up in our group chat, which I applaud you for. I always love when you can get a reaction out of me and I'm like, lebron don't want him. Like, didn't want to come here. In 2010, the Knicks won a championship. I'm good, don't need him, and I know how great he is. Top five player, all time. Some people listening and say he's the best player of all time. That's beauty in the eye of the beholder.
Ty Butler
I'm not.
John Jastremski
I'm not even going to engage that one with you. We'll save that for another day. We'll save that for when there's nothing going on. I'm more than happy to have that debate. That said, if the Knicks had lost this championship, right, and I was like, holy smokes, they're a player away, I would have been all in, dude. But they won, Ty. They won. They won. With this beautiful mix, organic mix of players. I am not bringing in the rich Paul circus. I am not bringing in the Farewell tour for LeBron James, which, by the way, is well deserved. He's one of the best players who's ever lived. He's well entitled to that. I didn't get the LeBron brilliance, you know what I mean? Not that he's not great now. He's still a top 20 player in the sport. I understand all of that, but I didn't get LeBron. LeBron. I am not going to go and sit there at Madison Square Garden and have every game celebrated for LeBron James. I don't want this season to be about that. I want this season to be about these guys defending a championship. I don't need the sideshow. I don't need the circus. And LeBron's smart. He's better off going back to Cleveland. He's going to be beloved there. Miami, he goes in poise with Giannis. The King's back, you know, like, I want to see that theater. He knows if he comes to the Knicks, the only thing he can do is win a championship. Like Ty, if he goes to the
Ty Butler
Knicks and they lose, oh, man, he's gonna get kicked.
John Jastremski
You know what I'm saying, dude? Whether it's fair or unfair, and it's probably ridiculously unfair, people gonna say, see, it's because you brought LeBron in. I wouldn't want that. Not my final year, no way.
Ty Butler
And that's a good point, because even if he does win, by the way, like, there will be. MJ stands discrediting that championship. They discredit the bubble ring. It's like they already won. It's like the Kevin Durant thing all over again. Not to that extent, because the warriors beat the Thunder in the playoffs, but this would be different. Last one for you. As far as LeBron goes, so you're a Knick fan, which one of these two options would strike the most fear in your heart as it pertains to you wanting to see this Knick team repeat as champions? Is it LeBron going to the Sixers, who now all of a sudden are a player because they got Jaylen Brown, or is it him going back to the Cavs? Which team would.
John Jastremski
Oh, my goodness, Todd, it's not even close. It would scare me so much more if he ended up in Philadelphia. Thousand percent.
Ty Butler
Really? Injury history and all.
John Jastremski
Listen, Embiid's a loser. Wake me up when he wins. But just think about a mix of Tyrese Maxey, VJ Edgecomb, Jalen Brown, and LeBron James that you talk about versatility. Holy smokes, Ty. You got a ton of versatility. And we could talk about Joel Embiid being a loser. Have you seen the Cavs team? I mean, come on. Come on. That's why this Nick playoff run was so good for the bankroll, was so good for Ellie's college funds. You have no idea. Like, that was free money. Any one of those games that will play the Cleveland Cavaliers. Like I was, like, this series is over in four or five games. Then game one happened and I just kept doubling triple and quadruple, and it was amazing. Ty. Ty. I'm going to be living off this all summer, buddy boy.
Ty Butler
I love it. So the New York, New York pod, you just dropped the episode. What'd you have on that episode?
John Jastremski
Oh, we got a good one. We had Joel Sherman on his big sit down with Steve Cohen. He was the one to get the scoop. So we wanted to have Joel on. We had the great dean of Nick's film school, Jonathan Macary. We did the Mitchell Robinson Celtics move the off season. All that big picture. And rumor has it a certain ESPN New York host is going to be joining me on Sunday.
Ty Butler
I hear that. I hear that. Making his debut.
John Jastremski
And long overdue, might I add. Long overdue.
Ty Butler
We keep. We keep bringing up LeBron, so we might as well quote him back in 2012 after he beats the Thunder. About damn time.
John Jastremski
About damn time is right. Maybe LeBron will have a new home by the time we have a conversation. That'd be cool.
Ty Butler
So I don't think that's gonna. I don't think that he is going to allow the World cup to take, you know.
John Jastremski
Oh, you think he's going to wait till the end of the World Cup?
Ty Butler
Yeah, I think that.
Jacob
Wow.
John Jastremski
I. You're. That. That's tough, though, with these teams, with the salary cap, though.
Ty Butler
I don't. He's LeBron, man. He's like. He can.
John Jastremski
I almost think if he's going to do that, though, Ty, he's got to go and whisper, hey, Miami, hush, hush, wink, wink. I'm coming.
Ty Butler
I don't.
John Jastremski
You don't have to do anything else. Save the money for me because I
Ty Butler
don't think he wants this decision, which is going to be the final one of his career, swallowed up by what's going on, you know, with everything in soccer he wants to.
John Jastremski
That's fair. Although they did. The one thing I would say is there are days that are a little bit more action packed than other days. Like, I don't think LeBron would drop this nugget on a United States soccer match. But if you pick one where it's like, it's a little bit of a slower day in the World cup, maybe
Ty Butler
this is the time we shall see. Jj, my man, go back to the pool.
MLB TV Announcer
I am.
John Jastremski
I got all the kids yelling at me. They want me back in. So Uncle JJ and Papa JJ is jumping back in. I'll do a cannonball. Just feel.
Ty Butler
Go ahead, do it. I'll be on your podcast on Sunday. That is John Jastremski of the New York New York 5. And Sny, always love talking to him. 800-919-3776. How about we squeeze in a little New York weather? That sounds like a great idea. Sounds like a fantastic idea. Not just New York weather. It is weekend weather brought to you by neutral. So tomorrow along the shore, partly cloudy with a high of 94. Down the shore with a chance of thunderstorms at night. Sunday, not as nice with rain and thunderstorms with a high of 83. So I checked my weather app. Today we hit a hundo, boys. A hundo?
Anthony
Feels like it.
Ty Butler
So what did you. What was your car reading on the way into the station today?
Anthony
I took the train. You know me.
Ty Butler
You took the train?
Anthony
Yeah, but it was hot.
Ty Butler
It was very hot because you said it hit. What did you say it was last night?
Anthony
Last night, driving home. Eight o' clock at night to Brooklyn. It was 104 driving home.
Ty Butler
So as you would imagine, ladies and gentlemen, there is an extreme heat warning. These conditions are expected to last until 9pm and so we're hitting 100 today. I plan to go for a run in the morning and I try to schedule it around, like, where it's not as hot. 4am 82 degrees. 5am 82 degrees. 6am 81 degrees. So I don't know where I'm fitting that in, but we shall see. That was your weekend weather report brought to you by neutral. Keep it tasty with neutral vodka seltzer made with real vodka and real fruit juice. Enjoy responsibly.

Fellas, this is 100% not a beach day. Now, I guess I'm the wrong messenger because I hate the beach, but I don't. I can't understand how going to the beach would be a good idea today.
Jacob
Yeah, I'm not a beach person either with you. Like, I'm right there with you. Something about going home with sand everywhere doesn't excite me, bro.
Ty Butler
It's everywhere for like a good week. Even in places where it's like, yo, I wasn't even over there. How does now you know, having the two young kids. It's all in the car. But a bunch of people decided it was a good idea to go to the beach this weekend. So what? I. So what's the ideal plan for this weekend?
Anthony
Barbecue. Barbecue tomorrow. Right.
Ty Butler
But you need a water situation.
Anthony
Yeah.
Ty Butler
Pool.
Anthony
Gotta have a pool.
Ty Butler
Yeah.
Anthony
Somebody with a pool. You got to go to someplace with a pool. Especially it's gonna be 90. I think it's gonna be cooler tomorrow. And I say cooler. And like, it's only gonna be in the 90s and not reach 100, so it's still gonna be hot.
Ty Butler
Like having a Cold front.
Jacob
Yeah. Even if you don't have a pool, get, like a nice little slip and slide. Get a water fight going, like that type of thing.
Ty Butler
Yeah, I don't know, man. Heading to Jersey tomorrow morning. You guys got anything planned yet or. Still figuring that out.
Anthony
Still figuring it out.
Jacob
Yeah, same here. Anywhere that has a burger for me, honestly. I'm ready.
Anthony
Give me a burger. Give me a hot dog.
John Jastremski
I'm all set.
Jacob
Yeah, that's it.
Ty Butler
Hit me up. I'll pull up.
Anthony
Go down to Nathan's and Coney Island. You guys have any extras?
Ty Butler
All right, so if I asked you guys, what's the biggest events of the sporting event of the weekend, what would you say
Anthony
they're not? I would. I'd say the US if they were playing, but they're playing on Monday, so if you're not counting them,
Jacob
I.
Ty Butler
Biggest sporting event of the weekend.
Anthony
I'm going to be missing something. It's going to be embarrassing. I'm going to say the baseball, but I'm obviously wrong.
Ty Butler
No, it's not embarrassing, because I fooled you. It's actually the Taylor Swift Travis Kelsey.
John Jastremski
Okay, I feel better.
Anthony
I feel better about this. I feel that.
Ty Butler
Which technically is a sporting event. I actually got the hot dog eating concert, but this is a concert contest. This is a sporting event because it's happening at msg. And I'm scrolling through my timeline and I got duped because I saw this tweet. It says, watch live Taylor Swift wedding. Watch live outside of msg. And I click it and I think that they're bringing me to the actual wedding, but it really just is the celebrations that are happening outside the venue. And to that I ask, like, why would you care to watch that?
Jacob
I mean, you and. You and I might not care about it, but somebody out there does.
Anthony
She has a she. And I'm talking about Taylor Swift.
Jacob
Of course.
Anthony
I don't think there's many people that are looking for Travis Kelsey, you know, whereabouts. There are people that are dedicated to see Taylor Swift any chance that they could get.
Ty Butler
And you're not seeing her.
Anthony
I. The glit. The possibility of a car that might be driving her up to. Can you imagine? Does she have to walk the ramp like the. Like the. Like the. Like the away guys do? Yeah, that would be pretty funny.
Ty Butler
I don't know what the setup is. I'm very conflicted about how I feel about this wedding.
Anthony
It's because your invite got lost in the mail, I would imagine.
Ty Butler
Yeah. Clearly my Kansas City Chiefs ties didn't do me Any favors?
Anthony
You're Mikhail Bridges. You just won a championship in the building.
Ty Butler
Just won a championship. Did any Knick players get invited?
Jacob
Starting five got invited.
Ty Butler
Are they all going? Do we know?
Anthony
I feel like I don't know if anybody's going, but if you're not doing anything, you gotta go, right?
Ty Butler
Wait, timeout. Only the starting five got invited. Hold up, wait. So if I'm Jose Alvarado and I scored eight points in my backyard, fourth in that fourth quarter Cup. Yeah. I'm from New York City, I can't get an invite to this wedding? Nah, man. This might have to be one of those. If we all can't get in, we. We're not going to. Only the starting five. So Mitchell Robinson can't go because you're not a starter.
Jacob
So that might be fake news, but I have711.com.
Anthony
I think Jacob May got sports.
Ty Butler
Listen, that was fun.
Jacob
Page Six picked it up at one point. It was. I just saw it everywhere. But yeah, it happens to be fake.
Anthony
That's not what you. That's not what you want. So. So to answer your question, Ty, the. The obvious answer being no. Unless they had a relationship with one of them. And I don't think that any of them are that close.
Ty Butler
But shouldn't they have been invited? It's their vendor.
Anthony
I don't know how that works.
Ty Butler
But Taylor Swift's, you know, all of a sudden, some big Nick fans.
Anthony
Well, here's the thing about that, though. And we can. We could debate whether she is or isn't. She clearly has an affinity for New York. I don't even think a die hard New Yorker would say if they had the means to that. I'd love to get married at msg. She clearly values the venue. She lived on Mulberry street for a while.
Jacob
Yeah.
Anthony
So I think that she certainly is. She considers herself somewhat of a New Yorker. I think that she. That this is kind of solidifying that. But she, of course, as she got more busy, was not going to knit games as often as she did when she was a country singer. That's for sure.
Ty Butler
But she was at games in the finals.
Jacob
That's right.
Ty Butler
Cheering for the Knicks.
Anthony
No, I know. I'm aware.
Jacob
We saw it with her name shirts.
Ty Butler
Yes. And so if you are a big Nick fan, invite the Knicks.
John Jastremski
You're saying.
Anthony
I get what you're saying.
Ty Butler
They just won the championship.
Caller Bobby
You're.
Ty Butler
You're having your wedding.
Anthony
You already got a thousand people.
Ty Butler
Listen. And I understand these things don't get decided like, you know, weeks in advance. Like there's. There are months and months of planning. It's intricate, I get that. But it would be nice to invite the team.
Jacob
Well, I'm looking. I'm just reading this article. It said they invited the star lineup, but they were unclear if they accepted it. So we just don't know if they're going to be there. But invites.
Anthony
They were invited?
Jacob
Yes.
Anthony
Okay, so they were. But only, as you said, only the starting five. Ty, I have a question for you that's slightly more interesting. Where on the 53 man roster does it stop for Travis Kelsey, who's not getting the. Who's not getting the invite?
Ty Butler
Is it like just Patrick Mahomes?
Anthony
It's apparently a thousand people at this wedding. Who's not on that list?
Jacob
I know the one guy.
Anthony
One guy. One guy's.
Ty Butler
Otherwise, Patrick's definitely there. The offensive line has to be there.
Anthony
Yeah, you got to think, right, Maybe there's some defenders that don't get it.
Ty Butler
Well, Chris Jones has to be there.
Anthony
You would think.
Ty Butler
I mean. Yeah, you're right. Andy has to be there.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Anthony
They, they, they didn't. He introduced them or like he was like part of the reason that this happened.
Ty Butler
Well, didn't they have affirmative fist fight or. Not a fist fight, but they got into it on the sidelines, so I'm sure they patched things up since then. That's a great question. Where do we stop?
Anthony
Where on the 53 man do you have to stop?
Ty Butler
So awkward.
Anthony
Any football player. But I'm not just talking about a. And any football player. Of course, the high profile wedding because they've got more money than we can imagine.
Ty Butler
Chris Canti would be a great person to ask that question. That. Because he just got married a couple years ago. That's.
Anthony
That is a good. And he had a couple teams, too.
Ty Butler
Yeah, I've got a great take and I just thought of it.
Anthony
Okay.
Ty Butler
Knicks get invited to this wedding. The entire Knick roster, out of respect for the great. And I put an emphasis on Great. Monica McNutt. They say, no, nah, but she's cool now.
Anthony
Monica patched that up. They're all good.
Ty Butler
Nah, the way the swifty was, the swifties were coming at her. She's like, nah, we're doing this for Monica McNutt.
Anthony
Our last hit with her this year because she was great with us last season with her. We. What did we play? What did we play, Jacob?
Jacob
Oh, was it bad blood?
Anthony
No, we didn't play bad blood.
Ty Butler
Gotta give me something better than that. What's the song y' all play for Monarch. Do we get this? Does Taylor, do we, does the DJ at this wedding play Taylor Swift songs or is that weird?
Anthony
I think that's weird, right?
Ty Butler
Like during cocktail hour, it's like, oh, that's my song.
Anthony
Shake It Off. Was it Shake It Off?
Jacob
It was shaking. We played Shake It Off.
Ty Butler
That's good though. It's appropriate. I like that. I like the touch. Like you shake off the beef and you know, they patch things up. Has she met Taylor Swift?
Anthony
I don't think so. That I don't think happened. I don't think they've met.
Ty Butler
Oh, this Monica McNutt. Just to patch things up, get an invite.
Anthony
I bet Tyler Murray would have loved an invite.
Ty Butler
Oh, he's a big Taylor Swift.
Anthony
I think his wife is for sure. That's how that, that's how that all germinated. By the way, Tyler knew that his wife would be excited to see the Taylor Swift was at the game.
Ty Butler
Oh, so that's why we got beat. That's why we got smoke.
Anthony
That's what happened. That's what happened.
Ty Butler
Oh, so. So what I was saying earlier was I feel conflicted about this wedding because on one hand it's like dog, it's July 4th weekend. Do we really got to create more traffic in the city, more of an inconvenience to folks trying to get around because of this? I don't want to be mean, but ill timed wedding like as people are, you know, whether it's public transportation or driving through the city, that commutes gotten a lot worse because of the wedding. But on the other hand, everyone deserves their dream wedding, right? If they decided this was their dream wedding, who are we to, you know, critique them? Who are we to say anything about it?
Anthony
I guess you'd have to to talk to someone who is going to Penn Station today or is driving around Penn Station today and how much of an inconvenience it was good. Look, it was no picnic during, during the finals run either. We were up there and people had their issues with the way that the security was, but it seemingly everybody got in okay. So that was fine.
Ty Butler
Yeah, well, I mean one of the biggest Knick fans on the, on the planet, the president pulled up. It created chaos outside the arena.
Anthony
That is true.
Ty Butler
That did happen now. I guess the game was so boring he fell asleep. But I mean you got to do what you got to do. 800-919-3776 I did want to mention just quickly soccer. And I'm not gonna act like I'm some soccer aficionado. Where's Harvey when we need him? But I was on Wednesday night, and I had said that if the US had beaten Bosnia to advance to the round of 16, everything the rest of the way was gravy because they would have, in many people's eyes, exceeded expectations. So it's all gravy from here. You know, we use the term house money that, you know, by the way, Anthony, I don't know if you remember the house money conversation. Me and Alan Hahn. Oh, yeah, 2017.
Caller Bobby
Oh, yeah.
Ty Butler
Just saying that now. I got PTSD and now I'm angry again.
Anthony
I'm so angry again.
Ty Butler
By the way, Alan Han was on cp, the franchises show earlier today. I don't know if you saw that.
Anthony
Always a busy man.
Ty Butler
But anyway, I said house money the rest of the way. They get to the round of 16. And we would have had proof of concept that, you know, similar to what we do in basketball with the Olympics, when we say, look, the rest of the world is catching up to us, it would have flipped for the US Catching up to the quote, unquote, rest of the world and soccer. And that in itself, massive victory, huge W. And I specifically use the word fulfillment in that just getting to this round would make us all feel fulfilled in a way. Obviously, still rooting for them to win, obviously. But having gotten as far as they have done, you know, that would have been fine. Disappointed, but like, hey, fun ride. There's some momentum going forward. I guess what I didn't account for was something controversial completely leading to the demise and the upending of this whole thing. And so we would all agree, even us neophytes who don't particularly become this invested in soccer until the World cup, that Baligan should not have been given a red card and thus suspended. And 48 hours later, we've kind of beaten that, you know, to a dead horse. We still feel the same way. Here's what I don't seem to understand, and maybe soccer experts out there can explain this to me. Whether you're in the chat or at 800-919-3776, I dbutler on Twitter and Instagram. How is it that FIFA, they don't have higher ups who can go back, review this and make a decision retroactive to, you know, to all of the information being presented. Like, for example, I use the NBA as the case scenario. We went through this whole thing with wimby. The league is able to downgrade or upgrade flagrant fouls. And you know why that's important. Well, because not only do officials make egregious mistakes, but you're dealing with a sport where a lot of flopping happens in both basketball and soccer. And so now you have the biggest games of the tournament being decided by poor officiating that you can't even go back and correct. And the US Is now going to play without its best offensive player. And the part that just makes this so objectively unfathomable is like, the ref didn't even initially rule it a yellow card. So this whole thing is just a mess. And you'd think that the video assistance ref would correct it, but no, it just ends up getting upgraded. So people are rightfully pissed. And it makes this whole thing look like a clown show. If you want the VAR to have the final say during the match, fine, cool. Have the final say during that given match. But on no planet does it make sense not to have some type of a appeals process.
Anthony
So there is.
Caller Bobby
Okay?
Anthony
There is.
Ty Butler
All right.
Anthony
US was told that he cannot. That they cannot appeal.
Ty Butler
Why?
Anthony
And he's serving the one game suspension. See, that is the thing that, that people brighter than me need to need to tell me. There was actually talk that it could be even more than the one game. But they were, they were told, I guess it was earlier today, looking at an article on ESPN now, that he will only serve the one game suspension. And if they make it to the quarters, Baligan will be able to play. I don't know why they weren't able to appeal, though. That I do not know.
Ty Butler
And so that's the problem. That's what makes this whole thing silly. It's the biggest match of the season. You're making a decision to suspend a player. And when these calls are discretionary, you need a committee to look at it. And look, we all sound biased because we're Americans, we're rooting for Team usa. But something that rises to that magnitude has to have a committee involved where they can either upgrade or downgrade. And it just didn't happen. And now going into this match, you already feel like you're operating at a disadvantage. And the story is going to be if they lose, look, it was a suspension. The suspension is going to eat at you for the next couple years. Belgium's up next. What's that game Monday? Monday night, belgium.
Anthony
Monday night, 8 o'.
Ty Butler
Clock. Monday night, 8 o'. Clock.

We are a city of Champions because the New York Knicks have ended the 53 year drought. Ended the drought. We are City of Champions. And speaking of champions, Anthony, there's something that you have to tell us.
Anthony
Oh thank you very much Ty. I want to tell all of New York you need to hear this this summer all lines lead the Champs Sports Fan Central Station. I've heard that what the big crowds run MSG right now are for a soccer pop up shop open right in the heart of the city at 125 W. 33rd St. This is the soccer destination in New York. Jerseys for every national team you ride with. Usa, Mexico, Argentina, Brazil and way more. All under one roof. If you want to gear up, rep your country and feel the energy of the city Champs Sports fan Central Station, 125 W. 33rd St. That is where you need to be. And Knicks fans, they have championship gear to celebrate your team's first title in 53 years.
Ty Butler
Jacob, you got any gear yet?
Anthony
Oh, I saw him buying stuff.
Jacob
Yeah, I got a couple Knick shirts. I'm waiting. I pre ordered some Knicks fitted. I'm just waiting on my whole thing.
Ty Butler
Yo, what's all of the people saying? They're not getting their stuff until September, October.
Anthony
That is accurate.
Jacob
Yes.
Ty Butler
Post very much. Yo shout out to the Knick fans. 800-919-3776 before we get back to the phone lines, I did get this tweet idbutler from Jennifer Hart. She says I kind of get why it's at msg. Taylor Swift gets a lot of death threats and has stalkers. MSG is safe. No drones, tight security, and they've donated at least 26 million this week alone to charities to give back. Not a major Swifty, but she's a really good person. Oh, I don't want y' all to misconstrue us having some fun with me saying Taylor Swift's not a good person. It's not how I feel at all. I love Taylor Swift. We have some Taylor Swift joints ringing off in the crib. Sometimes I'm just having fun, you know, having a good time while the weather is scorching hot outside. Want to entertain the people. All I said was I'm conflicted with how we feel about this wedding happening at MSG that is causing chaos just for the travelers, but it's all fun. 800-919-3776. Bobby's in Belmore. He checks in on the Yankees. What's up, Bobby?
John Jastremski
Yeah.
Caller Bobby
Before I get to the Yankees. Hi, Ty, how are you? You know, I, I'm going to change my thought. If LeBron goes to the Sixes, you know, even if he gets hurt, I mean, they're going to be a formal fault for the Knicks if that does happen. So I just want to change. I said what, you know, because if people always get hurt.
Ty Butler
But LeBron, I mean, LeBron to the Sixers. Yeah, LeBron to the Sixers makes them to me, the second best team in the Houston Conference. I'm still going to defer to the Knicks. They've earned that. LeBron to the Sixers. That's scary, man. That is. That is absolutely scary. Yeah.
Caller Bobby
Edgecomb, Brown, Moxley, him and beat and Simon coming off the bench as a six man. Yeah, that, that is vulnerable. Let me get to the Yankees now. I just want to get to Bellinger before I get to the pitching staff quickly. I mean, this guy did nothing in the playoffs last year, okay? He signed a contract, gave him 42 million, got 10 million signing bonus. Makes him the highest paid Yankee. Morning, Judge. I wonder how Judge feels about him. This guy, watching him play, you know, when he's out in 254 in the All Bears in the last 13 games. His band average is 100. You know, this guy, you know, supposed to be, you know, carrying Judge's weight and He's. He's not a 2 and he's a 200 postseason career hit him. He didn't hit for the Dodgers either. So I don't Care this guy a lot of money for this year and next year and I, I just think, you know, he is not a one old year, not an Alpha. So you know, I think it was a big mistake, you know, giving this guy all this money.
Ty Butler
But no Judge. Well, so you just, so you just asked. You wonder what Judge is thinking watching him? Judge. Judge would have been okay. Judge told us this much. He would have been irate if the Yankees did not bring him back. He thought that, that, he thought that there were moves that needed to be made. Cody Bellinger was one of them.
Caller Bobby
Oh, he's not earning his paycheck. 42 million. He's not having a great season.
Ty Butler
But he was awesome last year.
John Jastremski
Yeah, he was.
Caller Bobby
He was. Let me get to the. But not in the playoffs though. Let me get to the play to the pitching staff now. You know, Cole's coming off. Tommy John hasn't pitched well his last five starts over 60. Raid has a history of army and it hasn't pitched. Didn't pitch well against Corral in the postseason last year and it has a few since that 2021 Rosaries has not done well in the postseason. You know, the Red Sox got less and notwithstanding and Rodan is Rodan. I mean hit or miss with him and now he's injured. I mean do you think they should go up to school and an outfielder, they have to get more hitting obviously because no one hit over.250 other than Judge in the playoffs last year. So you know, I think they need a lot of holes and I don't think McMillan and Chisholm, you know, and with their defense and you know that's not going to cut it. They got to get an outfielder that could actually hit. I mean over 235.
Ty Butler
You also and I appreciate the call, Bobby. We're up against it. You need, you need some more offensive production at third base. You need a right handed hair catcher. You need some bullpen help. To answer your question about Scuba, would I go after him? I would be. I, I would be, you know, part of the bidding services for school. I don't quite understand. It's not an area of need. Make it a superpower. Make it the best rotation in baseball and by the way the best rotation in baseball we talked about earlier took a hit today because Carlos Rodan, he's headed to the Il Yankees called it heavy inflammation and so we'll see what that means.
