This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Peter Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Alan Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers. All right. In the to the 5:00 hour we go with Don Legreca and Peter Rosenberg. I'm Alan Hahn. And boys, before we get into everything, let's let me give you a game time brought to you by Tullamore. Do Irish whiskey. Because when it's game time. Oh, we're not gonna play the drop now, didn't we discuss we were gonna play the drop?
Don Legreca
Yeah, I forgot about that.
Alan Hahn
Wasn't that now the plan? We were gonna play the drop.
Don Legreca
Yeah, it's jolly time. I don't understand that one. The second one I don't even understand. It's like there's six Dons at the same time.
Alan Hahn
It's amazing. It's a lot going on. The Knicks tonight at the Garden. Their final game, final regular season home game against the Cleveland Cavaliers. No one's dressing for the Cavs. No Donovan Mitchell and some others. The Knicks, we'll see who they dress for tonight. But it is the final regular season game at home for the Knicks. That of course, with our coverage beginning at 7 right here. The Mets visit the A's. But that's the Athletics. The Athletics. But that's in Sacramento.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right.
Alan Hahn
Keep up, everybody. Sacra tomato. Which is. The great Steve Summers used to say that that coverage on 880 begins at 925. So I'm guessing the Knicks game is on 1050 tonight. Okay?
Peter Rosenberg
You would be correct.
Alan Hahn
I am. Okay. The Devils host the Penguins at seven. And then, fellas, the Yankees are opening a series with the San Francisco Giants. The San Francisco Baseball Giants, as they call them.
Don Legreca
Oh, yeah.
Alan Hahn
At 7:05. At least that's the scheduled start time. The Nets also take on the Timberwolves at Minnesota. So all you Knick fans that you know, miss Julius Randall, just watch that game. That's on. That's at nine. Nine o'clock. Tip. Now, Tullamore Dew the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab Tullamore Dew or try the new Tullamore Dew Honey during tonight's action. Glasses up to enjoying Tullamore due responsibly. Why did I say that? The Yankees series with the baseball giants open at 7:05. That's the scheduled first pitch time. Why would I say that? Oh, because it's freaking raining right now in New York City. In fact, it's just starting to rain harder. In fact, at 6 it's supposed to really rain harder and harder. Then at seven it's going to rain less hard but still rain. Then at 8, guess what? More rain 9. Rain 10, more rain. 11. The worst rain midnight till 3am how that torrential downpour. Wait, do you see what I'm saying here?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
So with that in mind, the Yankees a little while ago put out a tweet to tell all their Fans as of 3:50pm Gates are scheduled to open on time at 5:30pm for tonight's game. We will continue to monitor the approaching weather and provide updates as they become available. So at 3:50pm this was what they told us. The gates are opening at 5:30, which means of course, parking is available. You can come and park and pay for parking. There has been no updates since. Fellas, we're getting traffic updates. We have them on here on the station. What are we hearing about traffic? Brutal, miserable, awful, painful traffic. But I have a ticket for this game. I want to bring my kids. It's the only chance we have to go to a game. It's a Friday night. We thought let's get to a game. It's pouring out, the traffic's awful. But they said the gates are open and we probably should go. We got to pay the parking, got to get in the building. Only to find out what, what do we know? What is the freaking inevitable that you know is happening tonight? And yet we are being suckered anyway? This is the bait and switch. Come in the building. Oh, and then we'll give you the refund and you can come back to the next game. What are we doing? Why are they not just looking at the weather report and understanding that this is a no go tonight? No chance. And yet these poor people are going to show up at this place and there's going to be some people that are going to realize when they go back to their cars, oh, wait a minute. I'm not getting a parking refund. I still have to pay for parking even though there's no Game doesn't matter. You parked. We can't, we can't do anything about it. This is, it happens every year. I know, but I'm telling you, when I saw that tweet, I thought to myself, what are you doing? You know, this game is not getting in tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
Now I would hope they have a lot better technology than weather.com but I'm looking at the same that you're looking at. And I'm seeing just rain from 7:00. 78% chance, 79% chance, 86% chance. Not light rain. Rain. Oh, and not to mention 12 to 17 mile per hour winds.
Alan Hahn
Oh, like I'm actually going to text Amy Freeze. And just let her confirm to me that it's going to pour all night.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. So now. But tomorrow, you know, it's going to rain early. But there's a, there's, I think an excellent chance they can get the game in tomorrow. And I think they could definitely play two on Sunday then. Now be proactive. I'm going to tell you, I'm not, I'm not blaming the Yankees because the Mets do the same thing. It's all based on money grab and it's not what you think because they don't control the parking. That's all. Those are all independently owned and they don't own the commissions for the food and beverage and all that's all done independently as well. But they want you in the ball because they want to get this game played because they don't want to have a double header. They don't want to have a straight double header. And they, and I don't think they can do a day night double header on Sunday because then that spills into the ESPN window. So usually they're trying to avoid having double headers. The player association doesn't like double headers. They don't like split double. They don't, they don't, they don't like straight double headers because then they lose the gate.
Alan Hahn
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
And so they're. And I get it's the Giants only time in town. I know they're going to come in to play the Mets, but that doesn't help the Yankee situation at all.
Alan Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
And you don't want to have teams. And again, I don't know why they would schedule the Giants to come to New York in April. They play 3,000 miles away, come to town to play the Yankees once and they schedule it in April when there's an excellent chance that there's going to be rain or cold or have to reschedule the game. It's stupid. I'm telling you. Rob Manfred's the worst commissioner in professional sports. He has no forward thinking whatsoever. It's all a money grab. That's all he's about. Because you don't call the trophy a piece of tin and tell me that you are in tune. What your fans care about, what about.
Alan Hahn
And the problem is that we talk about this every year and every year the same thing happens. And I'm just looking at the comments to this post. That was from over an hour ago now and there are fans that are literally almost begging the Yankees. One person, Craig said, would it be what it would be considerate if a decision was made sooner since people already have to leave for the game. Another one's named Josh said it's disgusting how you do this every single year. No, there's like a less than 30% chance of the game being played, but still opening doors, allowing fans to splurge on food only to be told to go home. Like more and more of this now.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. And listen, I don't want to completely don't change it. And again, just because the, the concessions are separate and the parking separate doesn't mean that they don't have a deal with the Yankees. And they're like, hey, you got to open those gates, man. You got to get let us make our money. And then there's merchandising. It definitely benefits the Yankees and the Mets to have people in that building and spend a fortune to find out that there's going to be no game.
Alan Hahn
Can't treat people like this.
Peter Rosenberg
I completely have this conversation every year. To your point that they don't seem to do enough about it. I'm not going to sit here and pretend to know how to schedule. I'm sure it's very, very difficult because you have more eastern teams than you have Western teams and everybody's got to play each other. So it makes it really hard. But I'm just telling you, don't have the Giants come to New York in April. Don't have the Blue Jays who come once to New York to play the Mets playing games in March. It doesn't make sense. Play have the Yankees play. Have the Mets play the Blue Jays in April in Toronto where they have a dome. How they allow new buildings to be built without a dome is completely ridiculous. How Rob Manford right now, can't say. Probably not in our lifetime. But I'm just putting down an edict for the best of baseball. I am not going to allow a stadium to be built unless it has a retractable dome.
Don Legreca
And by the way, even crazier guys that in this same city this week they decided to change a game time for Mets fans, which could have been seen as annoying the other way. All of a sudden now you've got a day game they'll allow you to reschedule. And it was for a maybe. What guys? 8 degree difference between first pitch in the afternoon or evening. Yet across town they're gonna claim that they're gonna play through a monsoon tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
And also, don't, don't even think for a second that had anything to do with the fans. They were thinking about the players. The players would be like, I don't want to go out there and play in 29 degree weather. Change this game. You think that you're thinking about the fans, right? Exactly.
Don Legreca
Of course not.
Peter Rosenberg
Keep messing with them, keep messing with us. And I know they sit there and go, oh, yeah, but we'll have 50,000 people in the building when the sun comes out. I get it, we're suckers. But you have to live with yourself, taking advantage of people. And again, I'm not, I'm not Met fan. Picking on the Yankees, Mets too. Because the Mets would pull the same garbage. And I'm sure they pull the same garbage in Philly and they pull the same garbage in Detroit and Minnesota and all the other cold weather cities, they pull the same garbage with them. So it's not picking on the Yankees, it's picking on major League baseball. Major league baseball should step in and say, all right, guys, you're calling this game.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, we're not doing this. Like, and that's, that's why I have. Every year I feel like I get, I get frustrated by this and every year I react the same way. And so when I saw that tweet and I knew, of course, you know, we got to do a game time, so we got to talk about all the games and stuff. And I said, I can't let it go because if we stop talking about it, because you know what happens after a while you just get so beaten down. You just know, like, it's going to fall on deaf ears. Who cares? It's the same complaint. But you have to continue to make this the thing. You have to like, whenever, whenever you have Rob Manfred on whenever there's an opportunity to interview the commissioner of the sport. And as much as you don't want to, like, oh, well, if we do this, she'll never come on again. You gotta ask him, like, what are you doing having them open the building, knowing that it's pouring out and it's not gonna change?
Peter Rosenberg
And what is that about?
Alan Hahn
And why, like. And why can't you put a stop to that? But I also will say this. And I am the Yankee fan, so it's not, you know, you're the Met F. You know, you don't want to look like you're beating up on the Yankees. I will. Because it always seems to happen, and it always feels like every time, the Yankees just shrug at, like, oh, well, this is the rules. Like, we're supposed. It all is. If there's a window for us to get the game in, we have to do this. And it's like, okay, if that's the case, and I'm sorry, there has to be a way, because I've done. I've lived this. Where you park in that parking lot over in the Bronx. I don't know what it's up to this year, but I know it's like 50 bucks. It could be even more now. And, you know, you go get your ticket, you prepay, you walk away. There has to be a way that if I'm the Yankees, you have to show me your ticket and you will get refunded because we're not making. You have to pay for parking for a game that didn't. But that wasn't played. You wouldn't have come here. It's bad enough you drove here in awful traffic. A day like today in awful weather, and then you pay that. You pay for parking, and you're still got to put that. That's. You could say, well, we don't get part. That's another company. I don't care. I'm not letting my customers. I'm not letting them deal with that. I don't think that's right because we didn't provide them entertainment. We did nothing for them, and they had to pay for parking. So even if it has to come out of your pocket, it comes out of your pocket. But there has to be a way. Those are machines now. There has to be a way.
Don Legreca
So Don. This will probably make Don sick to his stomach because the event makes him sick. But, Alan, there's a fun storyline happening at least wrapping up right now at the Masters. I don't know if you paid attention at all today, but Bernard lang, Bernard Langer, 67 years old, Bernhardt Masters winner. Sure, I'm not German. And he is on the verge of making the cut. I think if he sings his last putt here, he would likely make the cut, right. Which the cut line is currently plus two. That's where he is right now. Freddie Couples, by the way, is on 17. He's at plus three. And I bring this up, guys, not only because it's a fun storyline thing to watch, but it is sort of one of the things I always think about with regard to Tiger and why even when people give up and we stop thinking about him winning, there is always fun to having these guys playing in this tournament because you never know what can happen on a given day.
Alan Hahn
The old school guys, right? The old guys you just always want.
Don Legreca
Six to seven years old.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, yeah. Like, and I think Donald remember this. You remember the Jimmy Connors night at the US Open when he just went on the sick run.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that was. And everybody just 93, right?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, like, and everybody got caught up in it. It was fun because you love those, you know, those moments where a player can reach back and give you one last performance. And even in the loss, the ovation that Jimmy Connors got that night was.
Don Legreca
Yeah, but I'll push back on the comp though. Jimmy was at the way end and had no business being there, but was legitimately winning matches. This guy longer is not going to win this tournament. And by the way, oh, he missed the putt by a centimeter. He'll bogey 18 and go in just over the cut line. But whereas these guys can't actually win anything. But the fact that they could, you could go into the weekend and think that they could be there. It just makes golf unique. I mean, it's one of the things not about it not being a physical sport that makes it, I mean, or that physical a sport that makes it interesting.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't make me out to be an animal. I am not interested. I think the Masters is pretentious and I just have no interest it whatsoever. But as somebody that for a living talks about competition when there is a story line like that. Yeah, it's not so much I'm interested in golf, it's just that's a cool story. It would be a cool story. That's like you said, they don't have that in the NBA where like Vince Carter can decide tonight, you know, jump onto the court and play for the Raptors for 15 minutes. You know that, right. And if he did, we would all be paying attention to it.
Don Legreca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
We'd be watching it thinking it's a really cool thing to see. So I love it. Especially a certain age.
Alan Hahn
It's cool.
Don Legreca
He's got to be kicking himself too. They just they just showed him. And like for, you know, you guys out there driving aren't watching and you probably aren't unless you're a big golf fan familiar with the look of Bernard Langer. He, he picture like Clint Eastwood 20 years ago. That's kind of what he looks like, right? What was the, what was the movie, Don, where he was the best guy sitting on his long.
Alan Hahn
Gran Torino.
Peter Rosenberg
Gran Torino, that's right.
Don Legreca
Gran Torino. That, that version of El Camino was.
Alan Hahn
A good car too.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, El Camino was the spin off movie from Breaking Bad.
Alan Hahn
Right, right. Oh, yeah, I think it was.
Don Legreca
And by the way, he's gonna be kicking himself because he played a great round, guys. He. He had a double bogey on a par five late in the second round and that's the one that he's gonna be kicking himself on because besides that, he was playing basically par golf all day. He'll come up just short, but fun stuff. Justin Rose currently, By the way, eight under Bryson DeChambeau, under Rory. Rory's in third at six under. You got the big dogs at the top. Scottie Scheffler 5 under. All the big names up there.
Alan Hahn
Dottie, you know what? Sunday, it'll be a great nap.
Don Legreca
Great, by the way, but don't, but don't say that with disrespect. It truly is napping to Sunday golf is one of the all time great things you can do as a man in this country. I don't mean it by disrespectful.
Alan Hahn
Not at all. It's Sunday. Sunday majors. On an afternoon when the AC is hitting just right and you're right on the couch, I think you dream about.
Don Legreca
It really is.
Alan Hahn
Did you see this?
Peter Rosenberg
Ian Rapaport report.
Alan Hahn
Oh, a Rappaport. Rapport.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. The Saints suddenly have a major quarterback question. Starting starter Derek Carr is now dealing with a shoulder injury that threatens his availability for the season. As far as laying options, including the.
Don Legreca
Possibility of surgery, which by the way, if. It means that if, if there's a world in which Derek Carr doesn't play this season, I hate to be negative. You could basically call it a career that he, he's in a spot now, guys. He can't miss a season right now. He's still showing that he's capable of being a guy for a complete season right now, isn't he?
Alan Hahn
At the end of that contract?
Don Legreca
I think so.
Alan Hahn
Wasn't a three or was that a three year deal?
Peter Rosenberg
I'll tell you what, when you look at Carr's situation and you Say, and whenever we bring up why did the Giants give Daniel Jones that contract? Or why did the jets go out and trade for Aaron Rodgers? Derek Carr's name comes up in both of those situations. And even though it didn't work out for either the jets or Giants, it sounded like if they got car, it would have ended the same way.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's been not a gone well either.
Peter Rosenberg
It's been an absolute mess. And I'm telling you, we could probably get into this at some point whenever you guys want. Football's got a quarterback problem. And the reason it's a problem is, is because it's the only. It's really the only way to be competitive in this sport. And there's just not enough of them to go around. Now, Philadelphia kind of bucked the trend because I don't know if I guess, you know, Jalen Hurts has to be considered a franchise quarterback because he just won a Super bowl and went to one. But he's also got a ton of talent and it's not like he was taken as a top pick. But unless you've got one of the big elite quarterbacks, you're probably not going anywhere. And if Philadelphia was in the AFC and he had to compete on a consistent basis trying to get through the playoffs to beat a Mahomes and beat an Allen and beat a Jackson, it might not necessarily have gotten to a Super Bowl. But the point is, is that there's only like a handful of elite quarterbacks. And we get to the draft and you're trying to make these draft picks into potential elite quarterbacks. Not because you think they're elite, because you. You have to. You have to find one, otherwise you really can't compete. But there's just not enough of them. There's not enough of them coming up in the draft. They're not developing quarterbacks because the other problem the NFL has is they don't have enough good coaches to develop good quarterbacks. It's really a problem. That's why Flacco still has a job. That's why Aaron Rodgers, if he doesn't retire, is going to have a job. These guys play forever because there's nobody to replace them.
Don Legreca
It's.
Alan Hahn
I would argue if Tom Brady wanted to, he'd have a job too, at his age.
Don Legreca
I think you're right, by the way. He could probably announce it next week and have a job.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, no doubt about it. Don, I have an answer to what you just said and how. I think if you're the Giant, maybe this might point to what the Giants are doing based off what you said, and it does go back to what they've done in the past when it comes to this. So it's. But you're. I agree with you. I think you're right. It is something that is happening again in the NFL and it is something that has to be addressed. But we should just, we should talk about that. We have lots of calls here too. I see fellas to get to as well. Fraud alert Friday A lot of fraud questions already started off with. I mean, it was fantastic and now I feel, you know, I feel attacked. But it is what it is.

Don Legreca
You break Orange Juice Jones vehicle.
Alan Hahn
Orange Juice Jones. Yes.
Don Legreca
Dom. Was this on your radar as a.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think I ever heard this song.
Don Legreca
You never. You don't know.
Alan Hahn
Really? Yes, you have.
Don Legreca
It's more your age range, Don, than mine.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I could. I can hear the way it sounds that it's from the 80s.
Don Legreca
Oh yeah.
Alan Hahn
But you've heard this. Everybody sings this song.
Don Legreca
He's dead. He was Def Jam's like first R B artist.
Alan Hahn
I didn't know that. That's a fun fact.
Don Legreca
Yeah. Orange Juice Jones was Def Jam.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Legreca
And I believe, and I want to say related to someone famous, but I could be wrong.
Peter Rosenberg
Is. You know what it kind of sounded like? Is it. Is it sharon from like 84 and we started dancing in love? You know that song kind of had that count.
Alan Hahn
No, it's not the same. That was actually a female. This. The Orange Juice Jones is a man.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm just talking about the sound of it.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, the sound. That was that sound of that. Of that time. Yeah, definitely that sound. But his debut album, naturally, called the Video Don. You would enjoy the video, which would make you like the song even more because the whole song is about how he took. It's also actually a stalker. So he took a day off from work because he thought his girlfriend was cheating. So he followed her around, caught her cheating, and waited for her to come home. And when she did, he had all her stuff packed up and waiting for her. All the things he bought for her and told her, you're out, you're gone. Kicked her out.
Don Legreca
It's very Michael K. Like, that's what.
Peter Rosenberg
I was thinking about.
Don Legreca
If Michael found out that Jody sent a text message that had a heart emoji in it, he'd pack her bags.
Peter Rosenberg
No. Is There lyrics about changing the locks. That isn't Michael K. That's what Michael's lines.
Don Legreca
It would be. I would say that that argument about. About cheating was a top. Don, was that a top five recurring argument on the show?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah.
Alan Hahn
It was the verdict, though.
Don Legreca
The verdict is verdict. The crux of the argument was this, was that I said Don and I felt that Michael was a maniac because he said that there is not any circumstance in which Jodi could have made any mistake. Like, literally, if she'd gone on a work trip, she got hammered. The next morning, she called Michael. You're not going to believe this. I'm horrified. I kissed a man on the lips. Okay. It happened last night at the end of the night. We were drunk, and when he went to say goodbye, we kissed for a moment, and I'm just mortified. Locks are changed, done. Doesn't matter.
Alan Hahn
I've heard this. Yeah, I've heard this.
Don Legreca
So it's a recurrent. We didn't realize, Don, that Orange Juice Jones could have been the theme. Real quick to put a bow on this because we don't want to do too much music. We can get a little music crazy. The year was 1986. The song the Rain peaked at number one on the R B charts, and Don made it to number nine on the Hot 100.
Peter Rosenberg
How about that?
Alan Hahn
So good, that song.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe I would have heard it.
Alan Hahn
You know, it was popular in my day. But I want to answer what Don was saying about the. The. The. Is it an epidemic you have in. Is it epidemic, sorry, term in football, in the NFL, where there is this. This desperate need for a quarterback, yet there aren't enough to go around. There is a problem that everybody's trying to find one, but we are seeing now. I think, Don, what you're saying is, is that the teams that have the quarterback are going to rule the league. Yes. And that's why it's become more of an NBA kind of league now, where a parody sounds cute until you realize that in the very end, it's still the same teams every year. It's the same cast of characters. It's going to be the Buffalo Bills because they have Josh Allen. It's going to be the Chiefs because they have Patrick Mahomes. Like, it's going to be all the different brand names, you know, because of the quarterbacks. And that's when I say. And that's probably why the Giants, instead of the desperate, swings for JJ McCarthy that they opted not to do. And maybe even now at three to take Shador Sanders, which it doesn't seem like they're going to do for them. It's like I am not taking a chance. Instead, I'm going to build my defense because if I don't have a quarterback, I better have something that can stop those quarterbacks. And if I could build up a defense like the 86 giants, like the. Like the 07 and 11 giants teams, those Giants teams were about having great defense and what quarterback play. Not great quarterback play, but steady, reliable quarterback play. And maybe that's just got to be the blueprint. If you don't get lucky and land one of the superstar quarterbacks that you know, whether it's the Rams trading for one and winning a Super bowl or the Eagles stumbling along one after already drafting a guy like Wentz, they get. They get hurts. And hurts becomes their guy. And nobody saw that coming. Maybe that's just got to be the blueprint. Instead of these swings and misses every year at people that they know in their hearts, that's not the guy for us.
Peter Rosenberg
And I think that just now, you still need to have talent around them, good coaching and all that. But, you know, Buffalo's gonna Buffalo, Kansas City's gonna Kansas City because they got the guys. Cincinnati, Cincinnati, Buffalo, Baltimore. But, you know, Roseman has been able to put together just an elite team, and he's got a very good quarterback.
Don Legreca
I was just going to say that. But remember the other year, it was. It was Carson Wentz and Nick Foles, you know, like, they managed that as a team. They may be the only exception. And not to take it away from Hertz, like, he's not good, but we're not sure how great Hertz is. And certainly that 2017 team wasn't incredible quarterback play. And they also won.
Peter Rosenberg
But to Allen's point, that's Eli Manning. You know, Eli Manning was never an elite quarterback, but he was very, very good. And he had a great offensive line and he had some weapons, and they had a great defense, and they were able to win a couple of Super Bowls. And as the talent started to wane, you started to see that Eli just couldn't do it on his own. Where a guy like Mahomes, as they were transitioning, they've been the last couple of years, transitioning, different stars, different personnel, but because Mahomes is so elite, he keeps you afloat, then you get your sea legs back and you're winning Super Bowls again. And that's what's amazing. But there's only a handful of those guys, and I feel like we're not developing these quarterbacks. We're not paying enough attention to the rest of the roster with these general managers. And we're trying to make these quarterbacks coming out of college into something they're not. Because you're chasing a phantom.
Alan Hahn
Yes. And Don, with that in mind, this is why I don't understand what I've seen the last couple of days. As you know, again, these mocks and the rumors all change. I know that's going to drive you crazy, but people do react to all this stuff. It's because that's how big the NFL draft is. It's a monster. And so when now all of a sudden it's, wait a minute, are the Browns thinking of taking Travis Hunter instead because he's the bigger talent. That would leave Abdul Carter, the edge rush linebacker, you know, at three for the Giants to take. Carl Banks was on social media for end of the show and he was talking about how it could really work because you have Burns and you have Thibodeau and now you got three layers of it that you could just rotate around. You got fresh legs. It could be a real dominant, you know, quarterback crushing defense. You know, Dexter Lawrence in the middle just breaking up your offensive line. It could be really, really good. And Giants fans are going at him first of all, which is hilarious. Like, Carl Banks doesn't know what the hell he's talking about. So Joe Average fan with my blog in my basement is going to tell Carl Banks what's what about defense in the NFL. But they're there. It's Giants fans are like, oh, I don't want that guy. We don't need that. We need to go into. We should trade back. We should like avoiding taking what a lot of people feel like is just as a generational impactful, quarterback crushing player that the Giants could get at 3. I don't understand that. Think of it as, all right, we can't get the quarterback, then we will build a killer defense. And it sounds like a lot of Giants fans are really not into this.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, because they're so down on the roster, they're thinking to themselves, well, yeah, we can get Carter, but if we trade down, we'll get a bunch of picks and we'll do what Philadelphia did. Philadelphia didn't have a ton. They had picks. They didn't have high picks, but they were able to find gems throughout the draft. You know why? Because their general manager's better than everybody else. If I don't, Shane can have a thousand picks. If he's not Good at what he does, not going to matter now. I'm hoping that he knows what he's doing, but I get the idea. Well, we don't have much of a roster, so let's get a bunch of picks and let's build from there. But if you think you've got the quintessential talent, if this is the next Lawrence Taylor, if this is the next Reggie White, if this is the next Derek Thomas, if this is the next game changing defensive player, that's hard to pass up. Now, I don't know how they feel about him, but. And I get you wanting bulk and more picks, but every once in a while drafting this high, you have to say to yourself, is this is Hunter or Carter enough to be able to change the game? And if he is, then I think you got to go after and get him. I don't know the answer to that. There's been plenty of guys that look like they couldn't miss. We talk about quarterbacks all the time. There's plenty of defenders. Brian Bosworth was a guy that wasn't going to miss, remember?
Don Legreca
Oh, I couldn't miss. How could he miss?
Peter Rosenberg
He's. He's got Bo Jackson cleat marks on his chest.
Alan Hahn
If you saw Carter, by the way, playing it as smartly as you can, tweeted a picture of Lawrence Taylor let everybody know.
Don Legreca
That was pretty cool.
Peter Rosenberg
Is it?
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Legreca
Well, the, the picture was cool.
Peter Rosenberg
No, Nothing to do. I don't know Lawrence Taylor the person. I'm good. But Lawrence Taylor the football player, that's my guy.
Alan Hahn
But, but that's what he's saying.
Peter Rosenberg
But once a Giant, always a Giant. Was what he put.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Was the quote. Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
What if he's not a Giant? How's that team gonna feel that tweets out there?
Don Legreca
Well, that was. That's my head.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, I'm all for it. If the Giants pick him, then it's great. It's a great story.
Alan Hahn
But if Cleveland takes them, he's not going to. No, I'm saying I think he knows he's not going to. Is why you tweet something like that.
Peter Rosenberg
But do we know that they're going to take him? Because maybe they'll take Hunter. I don't know. Was it. Didn't Mike Tannenbaum say that if he was, he were the Giants, he would take Hunter? Well, the way these mock drafts go, I guess depends.
Alan Hahn
Hunter could be gone at 2 to the Browns.
Don Legreca
These guys, I got to tell you, I either a lot of jobs, you know, I see the success of other people in the business. I think all of us, you know, have our own issues with professional jealousy. You see people and you go, wow, look how good they're doing. I would love that opportunity. Let me tell you something. Never have had that thought with the draft prognosticator.
Alan Hahn
This.
Don Legreca
I mean, they're at the point now. I won't be surprised if Monday, you know, Schefter or Tannenbaum gets on TV and goes, you know what? I see the Saints picking Post Malone. There's nothing left to say, Don. It's insane. The conversation is going for too long now.
Peter Rosenberg
When we had Schefter on, I asked him about, what do the Giants do if Hunter and Carter are both there? He's like, well, I don't think that's going to happen. Well, who knows? Because two weeks ago, that was a scenario. The scenario keeps changing. How does it change? In what other world do we live in where you're just taking the pulse every two seconds? What's changed? We're removed from the combine. We're removed from the pro days. They all have already played their college seasons. They're already going to the NFL. The only general manager that has any appetite to tell you what he's going to do is in Tennessee because they've got the first pick and it doesn't matter. So I just think. And I'm not mad at these guys because they're all doing their jobs, but it just shows you how much people just need football information. But is this really Information, guys?
Don Legreca
That's the thing.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, it would be. It would be like, I made a different super bowl pick every day during the bye leading up to the super bowl. Like nothing's happened. I'm gonna pick Kansas City. Then Tuesday, I. You know what I'm feeling Eagles, you know, Wednesday. You know, I've been talking to some people. I think Kansas City's gonna win.
Alan Hahn
It gets.
Peter Rosenberg
On Thursday, Don McGregor's mock Super bowl pick. On Friday, Don McGregor's mock Super bowl pick.
Alan Hahn
It gets traffic.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that's why I can't be mad at.
Alan Hahn
He's out.
Peter Rosenberg
But I don't have to pay attention to it.
Alan Hahn
You don't have to, but get some people going that, do they?
Peter Rosenberg
No. That's why I can't get mad at.
Don Legreca
Let's. Let's. Let's all agree that we want to hear from Carmen in upstate New York who just wants to lay into Alan Hahn.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Legreca
Carmen excited about.
Alan Hahn
Hey, guys. How you doing?
Don Legreca
Go ahead.
Alan Hahn
I'm not gonna lay In Alan. But I was kind of. It's definitely fraud. It's definitely fraud. And Don, I'm glad that you agree. Carmen. I did not root. I was, I, it was for my parents. I was like, all right, well, my team sucks. They got smoked. My parents have been way. They bought a bottle of champagne. They felt like this was the year. And I was like, it doesn't matter. I would, I would Mark story. That's a Hallmark story that you were, you know, rooting for your parents, but not Islanders, Rangers.
Don Legreca
It's a bridge too far.
Peter Rosenberg
It is a bridge.
Alan Hahn
It's a bridge too far.
Peter Rosenberg
Rangers, Islanders.
Alan Hahn
Exactly. Exactly. I put myself out there for this, though. I could have hid this information. I put myself out. You should have. You should have hit it. You really should have. Because being an island, being an Islander fan. I know 93 was a great season. Oh, yeah. Topier got hurt, you know, and, and then he get hurt. He got, he got destroyed. Yes. Dirty. Yeah. And, and then see that in 94, everybody knew that the Rangers are going to beat the Islanders in 94. I think Hextall was the goalie. Yeah. It's embarrassing. Yeah. It wasn't even close, that series. Not even close. That's why I was so fed up. And I just, I don't know, I got caught up with them and I just kind of like, I was like, yeah, you know what? You know, go ahead. Go get one. Go get one. I've seen four. I've seen enough. You get one. Go ahead. That, that's, that's how I felt.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Legreca
But either way, Jacob, do you have the, the alert? Because either way, Don made a, you.
Alan Hahn
Know, you know, I, I, I'm already convicted. Okay. Well, I guess I never got to throw myself at the mercy of the court. And you still, you just, you want to bring me right to the, right.
Peter Rosenberg
To the gallery I'm going to give you. Remember, I wanted honor to tease that the buddy said that he was, he was happy the Mets won for his wife. I had a similar situation happen. June 9, 2015. Citi Field, Giants, Mets, Mets went to the World Series that year. But the Mets were down five nothing in the bottom of the ninth inning. And Chris Henson had a no hitter going. My wife's standing next to me and she's cheering and she's sweating and she's excited. She's gonna see a no hitter. And you know what? I never saw a no hitter in person. So I was happy to see him get the no hitter. Mets were gonna lose anyway. They were down 5 nothing. What would I have gotten out of a broken bat single that broke up the no hitter and the Mets still lose five nothing. So I was very happy for my wife. That's why I gave the other caller. I said, you know what? No fraud. And Rothenberg killed me for that. But I'm like, come on, it's June. They're down five nothing. My wife's all excited. And also, selfishly, I had never been in the building for a no hitter.
Alan Hahn
And also team, though. I know, but does it really your team?
Peter Rosenberg
What does it matter? They still went to the World Series that year.
Alan Hahn
Well, but you didn't know that.
Peter Rosenberg
I wouldn't have rooted if it was one nothing. I wouldn't have rooted for it. If they needed the game, I wouldn't have rooted for it. It's in June. They're down five nothing, bottom of the ninth inning. My wife's happy. I'd never seen a no hitter in person.
Alan Hahn
All right, she's happy.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Alan Hahn
And she was really into it. Intense. Right? So there was some kind of, like, when it happened, she must have been euphoric, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Alan Hahn
So she had all the adrenaline and. Right. So did. Did Donnie benefit then? Do you have a reason to root then? I got you.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? I. I remember it vividly because it's one of the six times it's happened since 2015. So I can line them up all together.
Don Legreca
There you go.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't worry, Peter, you laugh now. You'll be. You know what you'll be like. You know what? I hear what you're saying. Maya gets older and, you know, done.
Don Legreca
I'm done, done, done. I'm. I'm 45 years old. Okay? I'm not. I. I don't. I. I've seen it all, okay? I'm not 19. 19 was a long time ago. I loved it was a great time.
Alan Hahn
Donna. TaxAct can think of a million things more fun than filing taxes. TaxAct is going to name some now. Sitting in traffic, folding a fitted bedsheet, listening to your co worker talk about his fantasy team digging a hole. Digging an even larger hole next to that original hole. Unfortunately, TaxAct's filing software can't make taxes fun, but TaxAct can help you get them done. TaxAct, let's get them over with.

I don't have the reference point here, Jake. Oh, rain. We're going. No, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Rainy days.
Don Legreca
Drink one today. It went a different route. That's interesting.
Alan Hahn
It's a hard rain. It's gonna fall.
Peter Rosenberg
Anybody can rain like rainy days and Mondays. Anybody can do that, right?
Alan Hahn
That's easy. That'd be. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Jacob.
Alan Hahn
How would we play? How would we play? Little Beatles. Here comes the sun. That'd be nice.
Don Legreca
Oh, positive energy.
Alan Hahn
Yes. We need that game time brought to you by. Tell them to do Irish whiskey, because when it's game time, it's early time. Unoriginal. That sounded like it hurt.
Don Legreca
It sounded like he was trying to push something out.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll be right back, boys.
Don Legreca
We're back in Calgary tonight.
Alan Hahn
7:00 is our coverage beginning on 10:50am why on 10:50am you ask? Well, because the. Why visit the Athletics. And that coverage is on 8:80, of course. And that begins at 9:25. The Devils host the Penguins at 7. Yankees tell their fans that they're going to have a game tonight against the baseball Giants. But we all see the weather. We know this isn't happening. But you're going to go and you're going to have to spend money on parking and concessions and then be told that the game will not happen. So have fun. The Nets take on the Timberwolves in Minnesota at 9. Now, Don, the Devils already know who they're going to play in the first round. That is the Carolina Hurricanes. Do you know already the Hurricanes have put it out. Now, Devils fans are just flipping out about this, but I find it funny because if you're an island fan or Ranger fan. You're just nodding along, going, oh, yeah. And you know what I'm talking about, Don, right?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Alan Hahn
You can't buy tickets to Carolina home games if you don't live in North Carolina.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes, I've heard that. That's always been a thing. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. There's a lot of displaced New York. There's a lot of New Yorkers who moved down there. New York area people have moved down there. And so they'll buy tickets, they'll go down there for the weekend, they'll go watch game. Like this has happened the last couple of years because the Islanders and Rangers always seem to play the Hurricanes in the first round. And so now Devil's fans are like, this is ridiculous because this is what they do. So they're at odds about this right now, but we should explain to them this is just what they do in Carolina because they're aware that you're trying to take over the building because there's a lot more of you than there are of them. But that's not going to happen unless you have a friend or a relative that can.
Peter Rosenberg
But, but, but also there's part of that. But also because I've been there when they won the cup and that's a very underrated building and it's a non traditional hockey mark. I'm like I said they got a ton of fans, but they can fill the building. But, you know, obviously people from the metropolitan area can get aggressive and they might shut out some of the fans that are there.
Don Legreca
It.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's.
Don Legreca
It's like Irish. It's like I simultaneously respect it and it like feels weird. Like reading it. It does. It reads weird. It's like this is limited to people from here. It feels weird.
Alan Hahn
But I don't want none of you outsiders in our.
Don Legreca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
What made me laugh, though, Peter, is that anyone paying attention over the last couple of years have already known this was a thing already. So that I just. Because my daughter is a Devil's fan, she loves the Devil. So she sent me this text and she's like, this is ridiculous. And I'm like, yeah, this is what they do. You should already know this.
Peter Rosenberg
But I don't feel bad after what they did to Chuck Caton and Forsland hall of Fame announcers. And that's happened.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Yeah. Those are two. Just talk about two guys that have seen it all from the very beginning. Right. They go back to Hartford.
Peter Rosenberg
They went back to Hartford and one's in the hall of Fame. One's going to go to the hall of Fame.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Matter of fact, Chuck Caton's the guy that is in charge of arranging the announcers to end up in the hall of Fame. Called the Foster Hewitt Award and let them go with the. With the whole nasty.
Alan Hahn
Oh.
Peter Rosenberg
We offered him a contract at a quarter of what they were making the year before, so you looked like you walked away. I'm on to you, Tullamore Du.
Alan Hahn
The original triple distilled, triple blended, triple castman shirt. Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Telemar Deux or try the new Telemurdu. Honey, during today's action, glasses up to enjoying Telemurdu responsibly. Where did you teach something for this? And did I just blow it up by doing a game time read for you?
Don Legreca
Well, a. It's not you, because us, as a show, we're the only people who can turn a game time read into seven minutes of content. But that's. That's a team effort to. To do that.
Alan Hahn
Hey, listen, we covered the Devils today, right? Right. We did that.
Don Legreca
We went down to Carolina. Yeah, we did it all.
Peter Rosenberg
Carolina. James Taylor's very good. Big.
Alan Hahn
Very good.
Don Legreca
Big fan.
Alan Hahn
We've got a lot of frauds, a.
Don Legreca
Lot of fraud calls, a lot of fraud alerts.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what we teased.
Don Legreca
Yeah. Yeah. We have to hit more fraud alerts. I'm already amazed and I'm. There was someone on the line who I think disappeared, who wanted to call Don out, who had claimed, Don, that you had called them a fraud for the very same thing that you gave someone a pass on today on fraud alert Friday.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's very fluid, but not knowing what he was going to say. Well, people change. They evolve.
Don Legreca
That's right. And you're evolving in front of us. What you're saying, right, it's not fluid. No.
Alan Hahn
Guys, before I run, because I have all the pregame stuff to do here, so I will yield the floor to both of you and see you on Monday. And we'll all be together every single day now, which will be awesome, but I just want to leave it here. Is that again, Nick's Knicks Cavs. Tonight, the Cavs are sitting a couple of their main players, including Donovan Mitchell. The Knicks expect to have pretty much everybody available, although I don't know about Towns, but the Pacers are sitting everybody tonight. So it's like, who. Maybe every. Nobody wants the third seed because they don't want to have to play Detroit. It is starting to feel scoreboard tonight. It's gonna get crazy, but the Knicks need one win. And they get that third seed. Can they get it? Tonight at the Garden? We have the coverage again. It'll be on 1050 to hear Tyler Murray and company and then you'll hear all of us on the MSG Network as well, starting at 7. I gotta get to that, boys. I'll see you on Monday.
Peter Rosenberg
I love you.
Alan Hahn

Come in the building... then we'll give you the refund,” Alan vents [03:11].
Management Decisions Critiqued: Don La Greca criticizes the Yankees’ management for prioritizing revenue over fan satisfaction. “Why are they not just looking at the weather report and understanding that this is a no-go tonight?” he questions [05:11].
