McLean is going to start on Saturday as Montas has been taken out of the rotation. Sproat is also one of their highly touted prospects. So Carlos talked about why McClain's the guy getting the call up.
Carlos Mendoza
Like I said yesterday, both of those kids were in the conversation but at the end we decided to go with McClain. But I think he says a lot to about where Sprott is at in his development with the fact that his name was in the conversation too. So yeah, we just decided to go with him.
Don Hahn
Now Blackburn, you remember him from earlier in the season, he was called up and Carlos explained why after what happened.
Carlos Mendoza
Last night, you know where Haggie pretty much saved our bullpen and for him to be able to finish that game felt like we needed the length there, you know, to protect some of our guys. There he was in Syracuse or where they had getting ready for a start earlier today and we got a hold of him and kind of just presented the option like hey, you want to just stay there and pitch and or you want to come back and Be in the bullpen. And without hesitation, it's like, I'll come back. Says a lot about how much he wants to help us. And here he is.
Don Hahn
Yeah. So lost in the Alonzo, two home runs and breaking the Mets record, the Met scoring 13 runs and winning the game against the Braves is the fact that again, Holmes gives you nothing. He's out. Can't get through four innings, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
That was hilarious. We did the bit yesterday on the show.
Don Hahn
Yeah. But with the over under, I had a four and two thirds. Jacob's the only one who got it right. We all thought he'd go over, and he ended up going under again. So Montas taken out of the rotation. Holmes is eventually going to have to as well. So I think Sprott eventually is going to get his time. But Carlos talked about why he likes McLain.
Carlos Mendoza
There's a lot to like. We all see the pitches, the sweeper. Everybody talks about the sweeper, the mid-90s, the sinker and all that. But it's just the way he carries himself, you know, I remember talking to Dickie Scott, our AAA manager. His name always comes up. And it's just about, you know, how he carries himself. Like, how do he deals with adversity, like his ability to navigate lineups, the way he feels his position controls the running. Like the. There's a lot to lie when you're talking to a manager and the people that seen him outing after outing that you probably don't see with the numbers and with the computer will tell you. So I'm excited to have him here.
Peter Rosenberg
Hear that?
Don Hahn
Yep. So we're going to have to find out. Can he give any length? I think that's going to be the biggest question, too. Mike Tannenbaum is going to be joining us in 10 minutes. We've got that now, Mike T. Are you and me.
Peter Rosenberg
You're going to tell him how you feel?
Don Hahn
I'm going to tell him how I feel about his comparisons. Dart to Sanchez and throw out your. Your tables to him, too. Don't be as scared of that.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? I think he's very. Is my. Is it my T? I think my T is very bullish on Jade.
Don Hahn
Well, I think everybody is. Anybody that's seen him play is bullish. But the question is, how bullish? Are you that bullish on him, or.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you think it's bullish?
Don Hahn
Yeah. Let's go to Dennis in North Carolina. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Dennis?
Caller
Hey, guys. I was gonna be mad if you put Daniels in the first table. But then I was thinking about it and I was going over his numbers and he really does have top five arm accuracy, arm. Arm strength. And then his late game decision making is incredible. I forget who they were playing when he hit through that Hail Mary for that comeback win.
Peter Rosenberg
That's Chicago. Yeah.
Caller
But, yeah, that was incredible to watch and I'm a Giants fan and I could just tell he's the real deal.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Caller
If you had, if you're the Eagles, would you trade Hertz for Daniels if you had the opportunity? And if you were the Chiefs, would you trade Mahomes for Daniels?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I mean, if you're the Chiefs, you're probably never trading Mahomes on principle. I don't think anyone's ever considering doing that. Just given that he's maybe the greatest quarterback of all time.
Don Hahn
He's time off of winning a Super Bowl. So you're not trading Jalen Hurts. Right? That's just.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, at this point, that's not a thing anymore.
Don Hahn
But I, I think McDaniel, I think Daniels is the better quarterback, you know, that he can come and do the same even more than Hertz can. But the guy just. He's begun to suit Super Bowls. He's won. What? You're not doing that. But I would have no problem with Daniels being ranked higher than Hurts, for sure. But Hertz works with what they do because they've got so many other things working for them. That's why getting Barkley was so essential to them, because they knew they had a limited quarterback. Listen, Jalen Hurts is just not built to throw for 5,000 yards or 4,500 yards and 35 touchdowns, but he's built for what they've created. That's why it made sense for them to spend the money on Barkley, where a team that had an elite quarterback wouldn't because they would get more out of their quarterback. So it's not, it's not shade thrown out. I think it's just the reality of who's the better quarterback. But it doesn't mean that you, any Eagle fans, could be trading Hertz anytime soon. That would. That would be ridiculous. How about Matt in Middletown? You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Matt?
Peter Rosenberg
Hey there, Matty.
Caller
Hey, guys. What's going on? BD so, gentlemen, first off, love the show. Obviously couldn't get TD Beach Bash this summer, so I apologize for that, but it must have been a great time. But getting back to the quarterback tables, Peter, you put Justin Herbert on a different table than Tua Taglabailoa. And I'm a Dolphins fan. So my question is why, if Herbert and Tua both don't do anything in the playoffs and they both have, you know, lingering issues, Tua with the concussions and Herbert with plantar fasciitis, and then Don, I do have a time where you did bow out. So once we get through that, I can hop in with that swap.
Don Hahn
All right, well, let Peter answer the question.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I just. I just think again, this is. This is giving. This is giving Herbert credit for history as well. I mean, to a tongue of a lower finding the amount of good full seasons he had is going to be challenging for you. Whereas with Herbert, even though he has his issues, you're still talking about multiple seasons where he put up gigantic statistics. So, yes, the last couple of years, you have some concerns for sure, but he doesn't have. Tua doesn't have 20, 20, 2021 and 2022, where in each of those years he still put up monster stats.
Don Hahn
And the thing is, I was going to say, well, Herbert threw for 5,000 yards to a. Threw for like 4,700 a couple of years ago. So they're very similar. But to a. It's. It's one thing getting hurt. The concussion things scare the crap out of.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you just can't be sure if it's going to end on a dime. That's the. That's the hard part.
Don Hahn
So I was thinking of a time that I bowed out. What time are you thinking about?
Caller
So I recall during the iteration of the show that was the Michael K Show, where some moron, when the Knicks were making a playoff run wanted to talk about the Yankees not bunting. And you proceeded to take off the headset and put on those beautiful hokas that we saw on the yes. Network at the time. That guy was definitely an instance where you took the headphones.
Don Hahn
I do remember that. And, you know, I think that I did the right thing. I mean, that was more of in protest than not, lack of debate. The other time I tapped out was why is his name escaping me that he did the gambling spot with us, R.J. bell? Oh, it was during COVID We were working from home, and he, like, he. He discredited me in some way, like it's the Michael K Show. And I just got up and I literally went to my living room and just watched the rest of the segment on. Yes, I told you. Remember that? No, you don't remember that.
Peter Rosenberg
Although I found all the RJ Bell segments painful, I was never into it. So.
Don Hahn
So the times that I tapped out, I do it again. Griffin wants to take issue with your list.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no.
Don Hahn
Grifter, what do you got? Griff?
Caller
Peter, I love you and I'm not talking about cable one. I don't have problems with table one.
Don Hahn
Really.
Caller
Yo and Hertz maybe is my thing. I'm a big Jane Daniels fan. That's because he played LSU and that's my college team. So. But for football. But I have a problem with Trevor Lawrence being at table three. If I'm Jordan Love and Matthew Stafford and I'm walking into the wedding and I'm thinking myself, I gotta sit down with a guy that we're having questions. If he's the quarterback in Jacksonville, you know what? To me he should be a tribal 4. If anything should be maybe ahead. I know the concussions are are an incident are question, but we have tons of question marks for Trevor Lawrence. We don't even know if he's the guy in J. Jacksonville and Jordan Love and Matthew Stafford in the same table with Trevor Lawrence.
Peter Rosenberg
I gotta tell you, it's a great call by you, Griffin. It's a great call because last year you're right. I mean obviously he was hurt and didn't finish the season, but he was not good. And his numbers in 2023 were done yardage wise. Still impressive, but not fantastic. Touchdown to interception wise for Trevor Lawrence.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
I am giving. I'm still giving Trevor Lawrence one more year benefit of the doubt to be a three. But just like I said about being at table two, if you're not ready to take a step forward, if you're Dak or Justin Herbert, I feel the same way about Trevor Lawrence. On he within a few weeks I could go, this guy's table four.
Don Hahn
He shouldn't even be again, Trevor Lawrence is my guy. For why you don't tank, Peter. He was a can't miss, can't miss.
Peter Rosenberg
I know.
Don Hahn
And now we're not even sure that he's going to ease. He can be. He gets hang in this league. So give me a break with the tanking stuff. Everybody killed the jets for winning that game. What was it against Tennessee. And they could have had Trevor Lawrence. Would Trevor Lawrence still be a Jet if the jets did tank and get him first overall, would he even still be here with the way he's played in his career, with the scrutiny in New York, with the changing of the coach and general manager, all the things that have happened to the jets over the last few years with. Would Trevor Lawrence still be Here.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a great. It's a great question. We'll never know.
Don Hahn
He'll still. In Jacksonville, they just gave him a contract extension. Right. But you could do that in Jacksonville and nobody's going to say anything. Would the jets have given him a contract extension? So real interesting conversation about these quarterbacks. That's why you don't tap out.
Peter Rosenberg
You can't tap out, Don. You got to keep fighting it through.
Don Hahn
Let's go to Moose in Jamaica. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Moose?
Caller
What's going on, fellas? How are we?
Don Hahn
Very good.
Caller
Good to hear. I'm as a Yankee fan from Queens whose name is a fan who I'm desperately trying to get her back into watching the Mets because she hasn't watched him like 30 years since I was a kid watching the Yankees. So she wanted to keep up with the max, you know, the. The library in that respect. I have the utmost respect and basic admiration for Peter Lonzo because of my mom's fan hood. So that all was deserved. This man hit 53 home runs, broke Aaron Judges home run record as a rookie. And I saw it on tv and he was standing there, they were playing that nostalgia music. He was just absorbing it. Is willing to die for the team. So anybody who's saying it's over the top doesn't know anything about the Mets struggle? Respectfully, Yeah.
Don Hahn
I mean, that's what I'm saying. And that's why I get upset when I look at people on the outside. Like, you don't. You don't get it. Now Russo should get it because even though he does a show for serious, he's a New York guy and I think he gets it. But this time I don't think he got it like it's Alonzo. It just hit different for Met fans. I don't expect somebody else to. To get it. So lay out, don't say anything. And if you want to rip the.
Peter Rosenberg
Call about the polar bear, you can.
Don Hahn
Have fun with that because I think that that's up for grabs. I think even Gary would admit that that's. That could be up for grabs. That maybe that didn't hit well with even some Met fans that might say that was a little bit over the top. As far as the polar bear on the iceberg, that's a little bit much, but that's fine. Not everybody's, you know, not everybody loves every call.
Peter Rosenberg
Now you can't. But it's different than saying. It's different than ripping the entire concept of a Met record even mattering.
Don Hahn
And because imagine a Met fan saying, I just hate the Sterling Yankees. Well, you know what? You're not supposed to get it. You're not a Met, you're not a Yankee fan. Yankee fans got it. It hit different with Yankee fans because they grew up with John. They love that because it's for them. Because Jon didn't do it for some Brewer fan in Milwaukee that would happen to hear the call. I'm sure that's why John Sterling's not in the hall of Fame, even though he should be, is because outside of New York, people prob didn't understand it and get it. Like, what's this guy doing? It's a little bit of a different world. One of my favorite people in the world.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, thank you.
Don Hahn
Is Mike Tannenbaum and he joins us here on Don Han and Rosenberg. Mike T. No Han, but we got the other 2/3 of it. How are you, buddy?
Mike Tannenbaum
You're one of my favorite people as well.
Peter Rosenberg
That was nice.
Don Hahn
That's nice. Now let's tear into each other, shall we? I wanted to get you on because I felt like I was criticizing you. Not criticizing you, but disagreeing with you. And you weren't here to defend yourself. So I wanted to get you on to defend yourself. I quite frankly do not understand why you would be so hot to start Jackson Dart Week 1.
Mike Tannenbaum
Well, he's the best quarterback on the Giants roster and the NFL is the ultimate meritocracy. The best player should play. And let me just take you into the room of typically, what kind of conversations you're going to have with coaches. I'm not saying this is necessarily what's going on with the Giants, but typically coaches would say, hey, let's go with the veteran. They know the system. Let's bring the rookie along slowly. And to Rex Ryan's credit, in 09, we started Sanchez from day one, rep won, minicamp won, and obviously it worked out. We got to the championship game. And what I would say to Brian Daboll is like, let's Give Jackson Dart 10 concepts for downfield passing.
Caller
That's it.
Mike Tannenbaum
And we're going to run the ball. We're going to have a quick game, we'll have a lot of plays to Malik Neighbors behind the line of scrimmage screens, whatever it may be. So we could go win a lot of games and bring Jackson dart along slowly. And if we were running the Giants, I'd rather have a young ascending Jackson dart and win whatever it is, five, six, seven games than an older Russell Wilson, who. When I watched him last year, guys, he just didn't move very well anymore.
Don Hahn
And that's fair. And that's obviously your opinion. I don't know if we've seen enough of Jackson Dart to say he's definitely better than what Russell Wilson could be. Remember, he was the 24th overall pick. Like, I understand starting somebody that was drafted high, like Sanchez was drafted fifth. I mean, right, you guys traded up for him to get him fifth. You believed in him. I mean, the Giants didn't pick him third. They still took Abdul Carter third and then traded back in to get him at 24. I still think he's a project, Mike. I don't want to. I don't want to ruin him by giving him too much too soon. I would rather sit and let him watch and then when he's ready, then give him that opportunity. I just can't imagine that the 24th overall pick in the draft is ready to become the quarterback of a team that only won three games last year.
Mike Tannenbaum
Yeah, again, I think that it's all how you manage him. And that's part about, you know, coaching and developing is how you manage a player. So, you know, do you give him the full playbook of day one? Absolutely not. But again, like, Jackson darts a very good athlete. When you watched him at Ole Miss, like, he can make people miss. He can run away from players. And when you're dealing with an offensive line that, let's. Let's face it, we still have question marks about it, right? You watch Russell Wilson not from a career standpoint, but the 2024 film of him as a Steeler, he just doesn't move as well anymore. And that's one of the reasons, like Jackson Dart can do things to buy a second chance to get out of trouble, that he can do things right now that Russell Wilson athletically just can't do.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, is there any. I know it's. I know it's. I. Sometimes I think it's silly to make decisions based on how it makes your previous decisions look, Mike. But if they were to do that, doesn't it make them look just foolish for running out in the off season and filling their quarterback room with not only Russell Wilson, but also Jameis Winston?
Mike Tannenbaum
Yeah, look, that's a fair point. But, you know, there's so many examples, right, of, like, the 49ers gave up an historic amount of draft capital for Trey Lance, and they go to the championship game with Brock Purdy, and now they don't look back, you know, RG3 was a top three pick and Kirk Cousins was a fourth rounder that beat him out. Barring something unforeseen, I think Shador Sanders outplays as a fifth rounder Dylan Gabriel, who's a third rounder. So I rather overpay Jameis Winston, Russell Wilson and win with Jackson Dart than justify assigning and lose with those guys. I just think there's a real ceiling if you play Winston or Wilson compared to what could be a very intriguing offense with Jackson.
Don Hahn
Yeah, I guess the reason I disagree with you, Mike, is just I know this market as you do too. And I just think there's a lot of quarterbacks that are good quarterbacks that fail because they started too soon. I think it happened with Sam Darnold in New York. I think it happened with Wilson in New York as well.
Mike Tannenbaum
Let me push back on that. You should be answering that question during the draft process. Right. Mental toughness, resiliency, that's all part of being a quarterback and knowing that you're drafting a quarterback for this market, which we know is very unique. You should be answering that question in November, December, all through the draft process, relative to what kind of makeup does he have? Because that can happen on September 1 or candidly, on December 1. If he throws five interceptions, can he come back? Coach Parcels would tell you he knew Phil Sims was Phil Simms when he threw four interceptions. And when he got into that huddle for Wednesday's practice, all his teammates believed that Sims could take them to where they wanted to go. And that's what you hope you have in dart.
Don Hahn
I guess where we're, where we're not jiving here is like, even Phil Sims was a top 10 pick. This is the 24th overall pick in the draft, which, which tells me it's a kid that's a project. Like he could be everything that you're saying he can be. But he still went late in the first round because there's still things he has to work through. I don't want him working through that with a bad offensive line on a really bad team in New York. And the thing with Sanchez, you bring up like you had Kellen Clemens as his backup, so it wasn't like you had a veteran and he was the fifth overall pick in the draft on a team that won eight games with an injured Brett Favre the year before. So I don't see the comparison because I think Sanchez had a better chance to succeed on a team you were trying to win with and probably did better than Kellen Clemens would have done. Than I think what the Giants have right now in Jackson D. Even though I think Dart will be a better quarterback.
Mike Tannenbaum
Yeah, I just, I just see once they're in the building, I don't care if you're the first pick or the seventh, seventh rounder. You know, like a more recent example obviously is someone like Dak Prescott who was a fourth rounder, started, you know, his rookie year because he played well in the preseason and there were going to be growing pains and Romo got hurt and the rest is history. So I. Once they're in the building, to me, guys, you know, it's the ultimate meritocracy who gives us the best chance to win. And there's a way you can do it and still develop a good young player like a Jackson Dart and Brian Dabal to his credit. That's why he's sitting in the head coaching seat. He had a big say in how Josh Allen was developed and coached. And to me I would say, hey, don't tell me what he can't do, tell me what he can do and let's build a winning plan based on that.
Peter Rosenberg
So Mike, we do every year I like to make my quarterback tables where I, you know, it's the same as anybody's rankings except at the time I guess I came up with it, I was working on my wedding. So we make them wedding tables instead of just tears. And today I added to the tier one and it's created a bit of controversy here on the program and I'm curious to get your thoughts. And you can, you can gladly scream at me like Don the Greco if that suits you. You obviously know who the first four quarterbacks at that at table one are, I would assume.
Caller
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
However, I decided to spice things up a little bit and my criteria that allowed me to add was is there, is there a quarterback who regardless of circumstance can go out there and potentially win a game for you essentially by himself? And to me, that quarterback is Jaden Daniels and I added him to table one. And then I rewarded the last few years including the Super Bowl MVP of Jalen, that is Jalen Hurts and said no, I know he's not skill level maybe at the first five people at this table, but at some point I'm going to reward someone who just keeps putting up double digit wins and gets a Super Bowl. And how do you feel about these two being added to the top of the list?
Mike Tannenbaum
Yeah, look, we just talked about Jalen Hurts with Seth Wickersham who has a book coming out about quarterback play and Jalen Hurts the Super bowl, guys. Like if we're just being honest about it. He's outplayed Mahomes the last two out of three Super Bowls. So he has earned it. You know, he certainly didn't start there. And I love Jaden Daniels. I thought what he did last year was just absolutely incredible and really deserves to be in that conversation, by the way. I agree. I'm assuming we all agree that your wedding would have been tier one as well in this analysis.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, are you kidding me?
Don Hahn
I was there.
Peter Rosenberg
It was a hell of a. You had not to mention tables with the likes of Michael K and Don McGregor. Are you kidding me?
Mike Tannenbaum
Yeah, it would have been nice to.
Caller
Have been invited by that.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, listen, that I have to say, looking back, it's an unfortunate. But you're not the only. You're not the only great or near great left off that list, trust me. Bring it up with Rick D. Pietro. He's still upset that he was a second tier addition.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And turn me down by yeah, no, Rick and Dave got the add on invitations at the end. Both sent lovely gifts.
Don Hahn
But Mike said once you're in the building, it doesn't matter.
Peter Rosenberg
I said about my wedding, it's a great ameritocracy.
Don Hahn
But Mike, thanks for being a good sport with us man because we love your opinion and even if we disagree, I respect it and I'm looking forward to talking to you throughout the rest.
Peter Rosenberg
Of the football season.
Mike Tannenbaum
Yeah, look forward to it guys. And just for the record, if I was a B lister I wouldn't have gone but sent a gift. So it really wasn't my loss at.
Don Hahn
The end of the day. That's right. Or the loss of the invite. Right. Because then we don't pay for the plate and yet we still get a.
Peter Rosenberg
Gift, which is awesome. You know what I'll remember if should my wife leave me. I will remember that next time around.
Don Hahn
Thanks a lot, Mike.
Caller
All right, guys, see you.
Don Hahn
Great. Mike Tannenbaum. You know, we agree to disagree by.
Peter Rosenberg
The way and it sounded like the way he worded it, he essentially agreed with my, my table.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
He had no issue with Jalen hurts and Jaden Daniels being there.
Don Hahn

Caller
Hey, guys. How's it going?
Don Hahn
What's up?
Peter Rosenberg
What up, Dave?
Caller
So, Peter, I originally was about to.
Mike Tannenbaum
Jump you about your.
Caller
Your tables.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Caller
I felt like your commander fandom was showing.
Peter Rosenberg
It is.
Caller
But then after hearing you talk to Mike T. Yeah. I just don't know if Daniels is good.
Mike Tannenbaum
He's great.
Don Hahn
I get it.
Caller
I just don't know if he's there yet. After one season.
Peter Rosenberg
That.
Don Hahn
That's the. That. That's.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the whole thing, right?
Don Hahn
Turn down your radio, man.
Caller
Sorry, it's the echo from my phone because I'm in my car.
Peter Rosenberg
Sorry. We understand.
Caller
Anyway, so the. The thing that I'm talking about more is that I just think that really there's always been those core four guys every year. Like you said, you mentioned before.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Caller
I felt hurts because of his season.
Don Hahn
How he got to.
Caller
And also winning the Super Bowl. That super bowl was a really good, like, I feel like five guys make sense. But if you want to put them there again, I'm not going to jump you. And Don, random devil's question for you, Luke. Who's going to sign soon?
Don Hahn
It feels like it's going to happen. It doesn't seem like people are overly concerned about it. I do think that's going to happen. Oh, and I never got a chance. We filmed a commercial over at the Rock yesterday.
Peter Rosenberg
I heard.
Don Hahn
I heard about it and a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
Of people chatting about it.
Don Hahn
And I was telling Anthony, I don't know if I said it on the air or not. There is. There's controversy.
Peter Rosenberg
You did and you didn't tell us what it is.
Don Hahn
No, I'm not going to tell you. You'll see it yourself. You will see it. And then you tell me you did.
Peter Rosenberg
This exact same thing yesterday. Yeah, but it made me want to punch you right in the face.
Don Hahn
Why is that?
Peter Rosenberg
Because I don't know what it is.
Don Hahn
You gotta wait. Listen, I wanted your tables yesterday, but I knew I was gonna have to wait till Wednesday, and today's Wednesday, and I got it.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, Anthony, did you see Weapons yet?
Ty Butler
No, I plan on seeing it this weekend.
Don Hahn
What is that?
Ty Butler
Good horror movie.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm trying to convince. I'm trying to convince the lady. See if she wants to do it tonight.
Ty Butler
I think you probably should.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, everyone's saying. Everyone's saying it's like a very high level horror movie. And considering I see most low level horror movies, or at least a good amount, feels like I should.
Ty Butler
Well, Jordan Peele turned this one down.
Peter Rosenberg
He turned this down?
Ty Butler
Yes, his. He was upset that his production company turned down. And it's the same guy that made Barbarian. So if you like Barbarian, you'll probably like this.
Peter Rosenberg
I did like Barbarian, right?
Ty Butler
Wasn't that the one I was on, the whitest kid? You know what? That was a YouTube thing when we were. When me and Jacob were younger.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, really? Yeah. This one's also a Julia Garner vehicle from the Bronx. Julia Garner from the Bronx to you and me. So anyways, it's supposed to be great. Don and I see that my babysitter's available, so I'm asking Natalie, you want to do it? Because I realize I easily fall into the pattern of we just do the same thing every night, you know, and we go home, take care of the baby, which. And it's hard. You don't waste one night with the baby, because this age is so precious. But at the same time, after, like, when did our vacation end? Two and a half weeks ago. Whatever. Every, you know, 17 straight nights, if you just come home and go to bed, it's nice to be like, hey, let's sprinkle in a night where we can go spend two hours together and take something in. That didn't sound right back.
Don Hahn
Because that would change it up.
Peter Rosenberg
Certainly would. Back to the caller, though, for me. A, I want to make things interesting. B, if Daniels goes out there and does the exact same thing he did last year, next year, Don, you putting him at table one the next year?
Don Hahn
No, no, I know. I would expect more than 3,800 yards and 25 touchdowns. 9. He needs to be better than that.
Peter Rosenberg
But for the record, again, you're leaving out the rushing yardage. It's 47 yards. It's 4700 total yards and 31 touchdowns.
Don Hahn
All right, fine.
Peter Rosenberg
Isn't that relevant, though, Jacob? You can't leave out Jaden Daniel's running numbers.
Don Hahn
The Russian is relevant. But I guess my question to you is, what happens if he does have a step back in the season?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, then. Then I. Then, then maybe it's an egg on my face situation to me, if he goes out there and delivers a comparable season. Maybe Don's right. Maybe you want to see the passing yardage go up a bit. They added Debo Samuel. Hopefully they resigned Terry McLaurin. All bets are off if they don't sign Terry.
Don Hahn
Exactly.
Peter Rosenberg
But assuming they. They run, they get Terry back and Deebo's decent, I think his passing yards go up, too, if that. Okay, Don, riddle me this. He similar sort of record. His passing yardage goes up by 300 yards. He adds five more touchdowns. Is he table one?
Don Hahn
Yeah. Because now he's. He's ascending and he's done it two.
Peter Rosenberg
Years in a row.
Don Hahn
I'm saying if you do the exact same thing and listen. All right, so six. Listen, almost 900 yards rushing is incredible. All right, but six touchdowns. So I throw the six touchdowns on top of the 25. That gives me 31. To me, you're throwing 40. You know, you look at Baker Mayfield, guys threw for almost 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
And we're not even considering putting him at the top table because why we want to see a little bit more consistency with that. He's got to ascend. So if he gave you the exact same numbers, I think I'd be a little disappointed. Again, not crazy saying he's Done.
Peter Rosenberg
But no, that's fine because now you're.
Don Hahn
In your second year and you're putting up what I still think the reason his numbers were impressive is because he's a rookie.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. So they should go up. That's a fair point. What I'm saying is if they go up a bit and we all agree the okay, year three, it's time. @ that point, I'm too late for me to do this with a little bit of edge. This is the time to do it. I think he will be there. I'm. I'm doing it retroactively for Jalen Hurts. I'm doing it in advance for Jaden Daniels. I think it's time. And maybe there's a part of me that as much as I love those top four quarterbacks in the afc, I'm just ready for a little bit of.
Don Hahn
New juice at the quarterback. And listen, this is all stupid because let's say he puts up the exact same numbers and goes to the Super Bowl.
Peter Rosenberg
Well then. Yeah, then we're.
Don Hahn
Then was a matter. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way, if he were to win a Super Bowl, I'm sure you'd be comfortable putting him in table one.
Don Hahn
Well, because now you'd be talking about the championship, like everything that you know. And now he would have gone to a championship game and a Super Bowl.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, we're.
Don Hahn
Now we're talking about how that's, that's pretty good. Let's go to Blanderson. Hooper, you're on ESPN New York. What's up, Blanderson?
Caller
How's it going, guys? Before I get to my, my baseball point, Don, did you know that on August 29th that Sirius is going to start having a dedicated Metallica channel?
Don Hahn
Yes, I did hear that. Yes, I did that.
Caller
And that that should be really Metallica. I think it's number 40, channel 42. All right, so about this Mad Dog thing. So I'll preface it by saying I'm a Yankee fan, so I don't have, you know, a dog in the fight or whatever. But the idea that, that he would say that, that Mets fans shouldn't care. I mean, we're talking about arguably one of the most popular players in the history of the franchise breaking what's probably the biggest individual record in the baseball teams, you know, franchise history held by.
Don Hahn
One of the biggest all time in Daryl Strawberry.
Caller
Right. And so you know that that's crazy. I mean, if Judge were to stick around long enough and get to 715, you can say that people shouldn't celebrate that. So the Idea of that is ridiculous. But speaking of Judge and I can't believe nobody else has said this yet. So you had that lunatic who called in before and I'll call him a lunatic who said the Daryl Strawberry was a better player than Aaron Judge. And Peter pushed back and he a attacked Peter for being from Maryland and.
Don Hahn
A attack that was interesting.
Caller
His age which listen, I get the idea that Peter grew up in Maryland, but I grew up here and I'm only a year older than Strawberry. He was like how many times did you see him? I saw him play plenty of times. And I get the whole idea that his career went off the rails because of drugs. But we've been spending this whole year talking about how when all is said and done, Judge might be on the Mount Rushmore of Yankees, which that Mount Rushmore is probably only rivaled in American sports by maybe the Lakers Mount Rushmore. And you're going to tell me with a straight face that Darryl Strawberry is a better player than Aaron Judge. The man is quite possibly the greatest right handed hitter of the last 50 plus years in the game of baseball. He gets for a better average, he's a better fielder, he's got more power. I mean if you look at his statistics across the board, they are way better. I just. The idea that, that somebody would think that Darryl Strawberry is a better overall baseball player than Aaron Judge to me is complete.
Don Hahn
No, it's so easy. And listen, I wasn't going to argue two different points at the same time. So that's why I wanted to finish the point. The other point that I was making before we can dive into that, of course Judge is a better player, as you said, hits for a betting better batting average. The Strawberry's lifetime batting average was.259. Strawberry was a hell of a player all right. He was hitting, you know, 39 home runs when that would, you know that led the league in 1988. He had 39 home runs that led the league.
Peter Rosenberg
So it was a lot harder to.
Don Hahn
Hit home runs back then. It wasn't all about launch angle and exit velo and all that. Daryl Story was a hell of a player. Might have, might have had a better arm than Judge if you could believe it. He was an A plus fielder like Judge is. He was faster than Judge so he incorporated stolen bases into his game a lot more. You know, he was doing 30 for 30 when that was unheard of back in the day. But Judge is better. But if you want to say that, hey, maybe the numbers would be a lot better had he not got into drugs, he finished with 335 home runs and he ended up becoming just a journeyman player. If he had been able to stay healthy, stay off of drugs, his stats would probably have him clearly a Hall of Fame player. But he's not Judge, and I'm the biggest Met fan going he's not Judge. That guy was fool that's trying to get your goat.
Peter Rosenberg
I love you, you know. I love straw. I love it. But it's it's just a ridiculous.
Caller
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
He was a that guy's a and again, when you say things while trying to make an argument that include a huge factual error or an outright lie, like the guy earlier who said that I talk about my lake house that doesn't exist, or when Chris Russo gets fundamental statistics wrong that he's talking about.
Don Hahn
These are the issues with the argument. That's right.

Thanks for listening to the Don Han and Rosenberg podcast. I didn't listen to anything you just said.

Peter Rosenberg
Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts.
Don Hahn
Don on and Rosenberg take you up until 6:30. Mets Braves tonight. Weather pending apparently because thunderstorms are coming through the area. Tarp is on. On the field right now, but I was handed during the break. I guess this was the topic of conversation last week. Magnolia Bakery banana pudding. Is that what this is?
Peter Rosenberg
So last week during the intern debacle, which was a horrible experience for me.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Really upsetting to learn that nobody cares about anything.
Don Hahn
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
We treat these snowflake interns like gold. And when I say, do you want to stick around and wish a happy birthday to the guy who treats like a gentleman? They all just walked right out the door and treated me like pure.
Don Hahn
Well, you said one of them stayed. Which one?
Peter Rosenberg
Connor.
Don Hahn
All right. Connor's good.
Peter Rosenberg
Connor's good. And he emailed me, by the way, and I said, good on you. You're the only. You passed the test. No, him and one other one. What's the girl's name? I'm going to get it right.
Don Hahn
There's a couple of those. Lana, Olana.
Ty Butler
Lara.
Don Hahn
Lara, probably Gabby. Gabby. Gabby. Gabby. Gabby.
Peter Rosenberg
Gabby passed the test too. Not that test, but she at least like built a little bit of a relationship. The other ones just basically they should have just held up the middle finger when I walked.
Don Hahn
But I loved them all and I thought it was great we had them on. They all text after thanking.
Peter Rosenberg
I thank you for no reason. I got a full bit on. I got to just go perform on the radio. Even though I never interacted with them for once the entire time they were here. I would be excited too. Now, when I. When I. When I.
Ty Butler
There was a lot of this last week.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, it was.
Don Hahn
They interact. I did things with them.
Peter Rosenberg
You did what?
Don Hahn
Oh, we saw him at the beach bash. I did a video with them early on.
Peter Rosenberg
You did a video?
Don Hahn
I just don't like your face.
Ty Butler
Well, Don. Don's here little longer than me a little earlier.
Peter Rosenberg
Spends a little more time is what you're saying. I still listen. I still. I still don't think it was segment worthy. Sit down and tell me all your hopes and dreams on the radio. I mean, I get. It's the. It's the doldrums, the dead of summer. I understand.
Don Hahn
We made it work though, right, Anthony? I don't remember.
Ty Butler
Peter thinks I'm a hack.
Don Hahn
All right, well, listen.
Peter Rosenberg
Never said that. Well, not about this. So.
Ty Butler
Exactly.
Peter Rosenberg
So I. Because I had missed Anthony's birthday the day before, because in a revealing moment when I found out Ty Butler is a horrible human being, he, knowing it was Anthony's birthday, didn't say one word to me all day. Let the day pass just so the next day he could say, I can't believe you didn't wish happy birthday to Anthony.
Don Hahn
That's not right.
Peter Rosenberg
Not right?
Don Hahn
No.
Peter Rosenberg
So I then turned around and ordered some Magnolias.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
I ordered some cupcakes. And I've heard Anthony speak kindly before about the banana pudding.
Don Hahn
All right. Which is right here in front of me.
Peter Rosenberg
And I just asked Don, I just looked in the fridge, and I went, what kind of wuss are you? Anthony, you left some of the banana pudding.
Don Hahn
You think it's still good?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's from last week. It's been sitting there. No one touch it. So, Don, granted, it's a week old, but it's been in the fridge. Don, for the first time ever, is going to taste a true New York City delicacy known as the Magnolia Bakery banana pudding. And I want to let him take it in here. He's. It's called best banana pudding.
Don Hahn
No, that's what I'm calling. Oh, no, it is. I believe that's the best banana pudding I've ever had. Oh, this is fabulous. And this is a week old.
Peter Rosenberg
This is a week old. Honestly, what are your thoughts?
Don Hahn
That was terrific.
Peter Rosenberg
Can you believe he even left that in the. In the. In the fridge?
Don Hahn
I ain't gonna put it to the side because I would, like, be chewing on the box right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you finish it during the break, though? No one otherwise getting wasted. That's going straight in the garbage.
Don Hahn
Yeah. But I.
Ty Butler
We also found out that Ty and Jacob don't like cupcakes.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was troubling, too.
Don Hahn
Ty and Jacob don't like cupcakes. Now, I will be honest. I'm not a huge fan, because I don't. They're awkward to eat. I love icing. And then you have the icing, and then this guy. And then the cake is like, yeah, it's all right. I do feel it's not my choice. I would rather have a piece of cake, but to not like it. But what is.
Ty Butler
Well, you're the perfect pair to eat cupcakes. You like the icing. Jacob likes the icing.
Don Hahn
How do you not like the icing? It's everything life's about. No, it's too much for me. I'd rather just give me the plain cake. I'm a pound cake kind of guy, so you give me a pound cake is fabulous, but a good icing. I understand sometimes icing is a little over the top and not all icing is created equally. But I gotta tell you, if not for the icing, then cupcakes. I'm with Jacob. Then they were kind of worthless. Yeah, if you're not icing makes.
Peter Rosenberg
No, if you're not into icing, let's. Can we just be realistic? For the most part, cupcakes are mediocre cake. Cut into small portions, covered in icing. It's not the best cake you've ever had.
Don Hahn
It's the hot dog of desserts.
Peter Rosenberg
It's the hot dog of desserts.
Don Hahn
Yeah. It's kind of like the leftover cake. Let's make a couple of cups.
Peter Rosenberg
What's happening on my TV right now is making me think about the hot dog of desserts. The fact you are so.
Don Hahn
You're like a cat with like a reflection on the wall. What?
Peter Rosenberg
The tv.
Don Hahn
The things that pop up. Listen. Oh, believe me, I 100% agree.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll tell you what. But you can't even change a thought. Certainly made things pop up. You know what I mean?
Don Hahn
My dear God.
Ty Butler
I think it's that seat.
Peter Rosenberg
This seat? Yeah.
Ty Butler
Bart does it.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it's a lot of TVs up there. You know what I mean?
Ty Butler
I don't know if Rick does it all that much, but. Yeah, you're the one that's staring at the television.
Peter Rosenberg
It's right there. It was a good looking site.
Don Hahn
Let's go to Kadeem in the car. You're on ESPN New York. What's going on?
Caller
Good afternoon, gentlemen. Don. How are we? My friend? Welcome back.
Don Hahn
Thank you. Good to be back.
Caller
Of course, of course. Now, Don, if you were here last week, I was burying Peter. It's funny that he segue me into this just about Anthony's birthday, but this week is a quick aside. Peter, I'm 100% with you with the whole group chat fiasco.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, thank you.
Caller
No, you are entitled to just disconnect and enjoy your time away the second people are coming at you. I took exception.
Mike Tannenbaum
I didn't appreciate it.
Don Hahn
I got a lot of.
Peter Rosenberg
A lot of people online. A lot of people seem to think it's like very rude. In fact, it was talked about on the. On the unsportsmanlight today. Did any of you hear it?
Ty Butler
No, of course I heard it.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Kadeem real quick, I'm. We're gonna let you finish your thought.
Caller
You're good.
Don Hahn
Do you think.
Peter Rosenberg
What did they say, Anthony? Cause I saw rj. RJ sent me a screenshot this morning of the television, and the caption on the TV said, ESPN New York's Peter Rosenberg leaves group chat.
Don Hahn
What was said?
Ty Butler
Well, Pat Costello, who is one of the people that work on that show I used to go to Fordham with, so he says, I need the full story, what happened here.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Ty Butler
I just get. But also, like, give me the spark notes of it. And I'm trying. Okay. I actually found the. I actually went back and found the text that I sent that morning.
Peter Rosenberg
The original text.
Ty Butler
The original text that led to this whole thing.
Peter Rosenberg
We know about the original text. We've discussed that.
Don Hahn
No, no, no, no, no. Not you.
Ty Butler
What I said.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. I think you read that to me, too.
Ty Butler
I don't know if I did. Hello, friends. Ugly Mets weekend. LeBron's future. NFL binge at 430. Full vehicle today.
Peter Rosenberg
And then what?
Ty Butler
I say, Don said something. Allen gave a thumbs up. Peter said, I love you guys. I may leave this chat for a while.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. Well, I know that. We all know that.
Don Hahn
What did I say, by the way?
Peter Rosenberg
Choppy God said anything.
Ty Butler
You said something.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. Which is rare now. Now. Now. So. But do you know what was talked about?
Ty Butler
So Canty and Evan Cohen were banting back and forth.
Don Hahn
Banty with Canty.
Ty Butler
Banty with Canty. Very interesting segment.
Peter Rosenberg
Where was. Where were small men. I don't know where. Michelle was the only one who loves me on that show.
Ty Butler
My only true friend Chris does. What's wrong with Chris, anyway?
Peter Rosenberg
I just don't think he loves me.
Ty Butler
All right, well, Chris. Chris said the thing that everybody's been telling you. Just disconnect or don't even be on your phone on vacation.
Peter Rosenberg
What did Rick text you?
Don Hahn
No, sorry, I whispered in Donzi.
Peter Rosenberg
What he said.
Don Hahn
He told me what I texted.
Caller
Yeah, I could.
Ty Butler
What am I supposed to say?
Don Hahn
I couldn't say it.
Peter Rosenberg
I say, Meyer. What I did is.
Don Hahn
I texted the affirmative. Anyway.
Ty Butler
Anyway.
Don Hahn
Kind of what distracted you on the tv?
Peter Rosenberg
Just Evan.
Ty Butler
Evan said he sees where you're coming from about it. Okay, but he still. It's not the right thing to do. What you did was not the right.
Peter Rosenberg
It was not the right thing to do.
Ty Butler
So then nobody killed you.
Don Hahn
And then Nuno.
Ty Butler
Nuno, by the way, I heard Peter say that Alan's one of the top five most sensitive people that's ever worked. And Canty, of Course, defended his guy. Cuz Allen's his guy. That's kind of what the sentiment of everyone.
Peter Rosenberg
I got it.
Don Hahn
I just. I'm laughing at my response. Sorry.
Ty Butler
Kadeem, go ahead.
Peter Rosenberg
Because it was, you know, it was.
Don Hahn
In the affirmative for sure, but go ahead, go with your call. I apologize. We hired you.
Caller
No, no, no, no, no, no. You guys don't understand. This is. This is me building up equity. My eventual goal is that, you know, I get. I get 30 minutes or so down the line with you guys. This is great. But. But, okay, so now, as you know, I am King Hurts over here. You mentioned it earlier and we talked about it, and again, to side with my man Peter, I think his take on it is exactly what mine is. I mean, I have two questions for you, Doc. Okay. First one is you mentioned you. You parallel with the Eli Manning portion of it. Has Eli Manning ever been or been a 10 up for the MVP?
Mike Tannenbaum
That's the first question.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he hasn't.
Don Hahn
No.
Caller
Okay, so then my second question is that there's a gentleman that you know will throw for 4,000 yards, 40 touchdowns, and the gentleman I'm speaking of is Dak Prescott. Would you take Jalen Hurts or Dak Prescott?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's interesting, but if Dak Prescott.
Don Hahn
Were an Eagle, he'd win a Super Bowl. But here at least have a chance. Because here's the thing with Dak.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's the thing with Dakota.
Don Hahn
I don't think Dak is clutch. Dak usually plays awful in the second half of games and seasons. And so I would rather have Hertz, but that puts up better stats. But no, I agree with the winning. He is one, just like Eli won. But when you're talking about elite quarterbacks, I don't think Jalen Hurts, if given everything, is a guy that's going to go out and throw for 4,500 yards and 40 touchdowns. That's not how he's built.
Caller
Yes, he doesn't have to, as you said.
Don Hahn
Don't you understand? He can't. That's why he was drafted in the second round. They had to pay Barkley because he's limited. It's a fact. Why can't you be happy? You have Super Bowls, for God's sake. Why do you need to have everything? You gotta have a Super bowl and your quarterback be a lean. The facts are the facts. They went and got Barkley because there's limitations to your quarterback, but it works for you. What don't you understand? He has never thrown for 4,000 yards. He's not going to throw for 40 touchdowns. He's not built that. That's why they have all the weapons around him. I, I, come on, man.
Caller
Don, Don. When he has to play in the biggest game other than 15 that plays for Kansas City, I would trust him more than the.
Don Hahn
And that's because he's got, he's got a winning gene like Eli's got a winning gene. All right, he's clutch. I'm giving you all that. But he is what he is. Nobody's paying running backs. The Eagles did because they needed to because they don't have a quarterback that's going to throw for 40 or throw for 4,500 yards. He's not built that way. But it's okay. You still win. But that's why you have a brilliant general manager that puts that insurance policies around him because there's limitations to his game. But he knows how to win. He's clutch, he can handle the situations, all that. But don't make him into something that he's not. Peter, that's the problem.
Peter Rosenberg
I agree with everything you just said. I feel the exact same way about Jalen. Hurts. The only thing I'll say is he has put together the consecutive seasons he's put together probably put him above Eli. He is on a better trajectory than Eli. That's fine. But everybody else.
Don Hahn
But he's way better teams.
Peter Rosenberg
But he's also a better team.
Don Hahn
Right? I mean he's Again, I'm not in love with their coach, but boy, their general manager is the best. And you look at the players that are around him and there's nothing wrong with that. But I'm not throwing Shade. It's a fact. Like we had this conversation with Kadeem when he was listed as the eighth best quarterback of the NFL. What's wrong with eighth?
Peter Rosenberg
It's bad.
Don Hahn
Justin Herbert was ahead of him because Herbert's thrown for 5,000 yards. All right, but I'd rather have Hertz than Herbert. That's a, that's a no brainer. But as far as who the better QB is, it's a different conversation. But don't give me the whole he doesn't have to. The reason they built it around because he can't. And that's all right. He's still a really good quarterback, if not a great quarterback, but because he can't throw for 5,000 yards and 40 touchdowns. That's why they built a team around them. But given a chance to win, he has been able to do that. And that's why you love him, and that's why you want to keep him. And that's why you would never think about trading Justin Herbert for him or anybody else. But come on, man, don't make him into something that he's not.
