Don LaGreca
502 in the big city. Don Lagreca, Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg, take it at 6:30. Our coverage begins. It begins, Peter. Game three, Knicks.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I can't wait. I'm visibly excited for that game tonight.
Unknown Speaker
I love when don does the 502 in the big city. It's just something. It hits, right.
Peter Rosenberg
Is there any other time in your life, Don, when you refer to the big city, or is it only when giving times on the radio?
Don LaGreca
It's the only time. That's the only time I do.
Unknown Speaker
And that's like a, that, that's like, that's like a comic, right? Like, like that's from the, the old comics, right? Well, the big in the big city.
Don LaGreca
Where I'm parrying it from is the old George Carlin bit from like, wait, one of his, like, first albums. The, the Hippie Dippy Weatherman. That whole thing. It's like Bing Bong, five minutes past the hour of five o'clock, right. It's 52 degrees at the airport. I don't know anybody that lives at the airport. That kind of stuff that's, that's kind of what I'm channeling a little bit there.
Unknown Speaker
So the goofy radio stuff, but for some reason I find it nostalgic and I love it.
Don LaGreca
It's fun, you know, Cousin. Cousin Brucie.
Unknown Speaker
Thank cousin.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, I only really know cousin Bruce, what Cousin Brucie sounds like from hearing Howard Stern's impression of Cousin Brucie.
Don LaGreca
Now you never. Well, no, because you didn't grow up in New York.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
But don, you listen to 70s on seven, right?
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Unknown Speaker
So you know that some of the old school DJs from back then are working on that. And so you hear that, that old school voice, the old school stuff, the way they do it, bring you in and out. Old AM radio stuff, it was just, it's great stuff.
Don LaGreca
I'm a connoisseur.
Unknown Speaker
Jokes, like, all that stuff. It's great.
Don LaGreca
It's a haven for dad jokes and all that stuff.
Unknown Speaker
It's the best.
Don LaGreca
Meanwhile, not nothing wholesome was happening off the air back in the 70s. I think the reason they played Indigotta Davita was because they had something else to do it for 20 minutes.
Unknown Speaker
Play stairway to Heaven. Okay.
Don LaGreca
There was a time, Peter, because you're a connoisseur of radio. But I don't know if this was a thing in Washington the way it was in New York and some of the other big cities, like Los Angeles and Chicago, like DJs back in the day had groupies.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
They would hang out outside the radio station. There were women in the 60s and 70s that would do anything to hear their favorite song. And DJs were more than willing to supply that music for them.
Peter Rosenberg
Sure, sure. Well, I mean, listen. How do I say this delicately?
Don LaGreca
I don't know.
Unknown Speaker
Nope. Can't break it.
Don LaGreca
Say it.
Unknown Speaker
I wouldn't.
Peter Rosenberg
I wouldn't. The word groupies would be strong.
Don LaGreca
No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Peter Rosenberg
But I would say that there are still other radio stations that aren't listened to by only dweebs with male genitalia that exist. And there's still benefits to those situations that make sense.
Don LaGreca
Are you talking about payola?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. What I'm saying is there are radio stations in the world in which you can exist in them, and there are still attractive women who want to be around the things that. It's just not this. Do you understand what I'm trying to say to you?
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
When I got to New York and started on hot, I was meeting women unlike I've ever before in my life. And then I got here and I don't know if a woman exists. I don't know if there. I don't.
Don LaGreca
You.
Peter Rosenberg
If you were to come to our station events, unless the woman is being dragged there against her will by a guy, you wouldn't think women lived in New York.
Don LaGreca
I gotta tell you back. My friend Tim Reed, who got me into this business, we interned. He worked at kroc. I interned at kroc. KROC was Howard Stern and Classic Rock. And sometimes he would get the van for the weekend and we would take the van. It would be cars beeping, people trying to pull us over. It was really just amazing. So you're right from a music standpoint, but that very same Tim Reid. When I got the job at the Fan, and I was all excited, it's like the WFAN hired me. I'm gonna be on sports radio. And Tim said, don, I'm so happy for you. It'll never get you a woman. And he is never been more right about any of this.
Peter Rosenberg
Never, never has he been more right. I mean, it's crazy.
Don LaGreca
The.
Peter Rosenberg
The difference here is wild. Both have wonderful attributes. Just.
Don LaGreca
Just different. Just different. Diana Rossini tweeted this out. I don't know if you saw this, guys. Hours away from the start of the first round, Browns general manager Andrew Perry has been actively listening to offers for the number two overall pick, and many believe he's willing to move a few picks back. Cleveland has holes to fill and have just three top 100 picks to address them. So this is where it really becomes interesting because that last part where she's right, you're a team that's got a lot of holes. You only have four picks out of 100, but you have the second overall pick. If you can drop down to wherever and be able to get a bunch of picks and now maybe you're picking seven, eight times in that hundred instead of four. That sounds to me like it could be real, guys. So who wants to go to two and who they picking it to? So assume Tennessee is going to take Ward. That seems to be where everybody's going. So Now Cleveland's at 2. They could take Carter, they could take Hunter, they could trade. Who's making that deal and who they picking and who are they making it for?
Unknown Speaker
I can't even imagine because normally these types of deals are done because you're trying to get your quarterback, but I don't see a world that you're going to do that. Although did the Niners not trade up for Trey Lance in a similar situation? Third pick?
Don LaGreca
I don't think anybody's trading up for a quarterback because.
Unknown Speaker
No, but what else are you trading up for other than, you know, you think Travis Hunter is going to change your. Your organization. Are you really trading up for a cornerback slash wide receiver or.
Don LaGreca
Or just that you just love Carter. You think you're a pass rusher away from being really special?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, that could be it. Maybe.
Don LaGreca
You know, so is there a team out there that just, you know.
Unknown Speaker
So this could work out for the Giants, couldn't it?
Don LaGreca
Well, you know, it's interesting because if.
Unknown Speaker
They'Re trying to get past you, get ahead of you to get Abdul Carter, then that means that Hunter falls to you.
Don LaGreca
Right? If that's what you want. You know, I don't know. Again, we were taking calls. We'll take More calls at 1-800-919-3776. Who do you want? You want Carter, you want Hunter? So it really depends on how it falls. I don't know.
Unknown Speaker
Have to get a quarterback at some point tomorrow or Friday.
Don LaGreca
The Giants, you're saying?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, the Giants.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, I would think so.
Unknown Speaker
Really want to know what Giants fit?
Don LaGreca
I would think so.
Unknown Speaker
You know, with three, you're not taking a quarterback. You got to feel like you're not. So is the draft satisfactory or is it only satisfactory if in the second round or late first round you come away also with one of the. One of the higher projected quarterbacks? That's what I'm curious about. But it's where we are. It's where we are. This is that. This is the part of the day now where there's always the one rogue team that you thought everything was going to go chalk until that team starts to get a little jumpy and not necessarily wants to settle in. No, they want to play ball, get business going.
Don LaGreca
The reports are that Hunter is who Cleveland would take. Correct. Although they could be wrong, but that seems to be what's being suggested.
Unknown Speaker
Yes.
Don LaGreca
That it's probably going to go Ward, Hunter, Carter.
Unknown Speaker
Yes.
Don LaGreca
So whoever trades up for him, that doesn't necessarily mean that's the case. So I don't know. Who do the Giants have on their board? Is Carter ahead of Hunter just because they know that Hunter's going to be gone, or would they rather have Hunter? And this would be great if somebody is going to trade to get Carter. Like, I don't know where the Giants are. Do they have them dead even? I'll take either of the two. I don't know. It's curious, like, how the Giants would feel if it's not Hunter taking it, too. Would they be like, okay, great, he's.
Unknown Speaker
Taking the running back even though everybody loves Ashton Genti. Nobody's trading up to get him at two like that.
You can't.
They're not doing a Saquon Barclay. No one's got to believe that's going to happen, right? Is it. Is it. Does New England say to themselves, carter fits exactly what we want to be? Does Mike Vrabel feel like this changes us? If we can get a guy like that, is that just a simple leap over the Giants? Because, you know the Giants will take them. You know, could it. Is it the Raiders you don't like? It makes it interesting because there's no way, if you are the Browns that you're. You're going to be moving out of the top 10. So it's got to be somebody that's in the top 10 that would make that aggressive move up and is that aggressive move up just simply to get Carter or is it to get again one of these. These moves are made to get a quarterback.
Peter Rosenberg
I'd be.
Unknown Speaker
I'd be stunned if someone traded assets to get Shador Sanders or Jackson Dart because they're afraid that by the time it gets to they won't be able to get that guy.
Peter Rosenberg
It doesn't feel like it's that kind of draft doesn't.
Unknown Speaker
But you never know.
Peter Rosenberg
But you do never know if someone decides that they're in love with someone all of a sudden and you can't resist it and you're like, I mean, let's not forget. Now granted it went terribly in my opinion but you guys remember how early Daniel Jones was picked by the Giants?
Don LaGreca
Six.
Unknown Speaker
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
No one there. There were rumors Daniel Jones could slip down close to 20.
Don LaGreca
Now they didn't trade up to six.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no. But still it wasn't thought of.
Don LaGreca
What you're saying is that there is somebody out there that just is in love with sh.
Peter Rosenberg
Sanders potentially.
Unknown Speaker
Or Jackson Dart.
Don LaGreca
Or Jackson Dart and don't believe he'll be there from wherever they're picking.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. And. And you know, now again the Raiders situation at quarterback is settled. Like we know that.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Unknown Speaker
But that doesn't mean that, you know, they wouldn't want something else that they don't think is going to be there at six. Now jets are at seven. I mean it'd be stunning. Don't see that at all.
Don LaGreca
No. Now let's look at the Saints. Looks like the Saints are going to need a quarterback. They're take their drafting at nine.
Unknown Speaker
That's a good.
Don LaGreca
Now they want a quarterback but do they want to take the chance that one of the quarterback that they like will be there at 9 and they don't want to. They don't want to risk it. They just want to move up to whoever will trade with them so they can secure their quarterback rather than roll the dice and hope. And I guess what you're looking at like who would. So. So let's look at it then with the Saints at not. Like who would be the team that would take the quarterback away from them where they feel like they absolutely have to trade up?
Unknown Speaker
Carolina 8. Jacksonville no. New England.
No.
Peter Rosenberg
But doesn't Carolina. Aren't they running it with Bryce Young? And are they.
Unknown Speaker
Are they like, you know, they. Doesn't mean you can't have a backup plan. Remember the Eagles had Carson Wentz. It's interesting. Again, the Raiders, you would think they just settled in with Geno but Gino's also older. It's not like he's going to be around for the next.
Don LaGreca
They gave him a contract.
Unknown Speaker
They gave him a contract. Is he going to be around for the next 10 years?
Don LaGreca
If I, if, Listen, if I'm the Saints and I love one of these quarterbacks, rather than trade up to 2 and give up all that draft capital, I think, I think the percentages are high enough that that quarterback will be there for me at 9.
Unknown Speaker
So this can't be about a quarterback then. It can't be.
Don LaGreca
I don't think it is.
Unknown Speaker
And if it's about Carter, you're looking at a team that wants to get a piece defensively that could, that could move the needle for them enough that it's worth, maybe they have extra capital and they're like, it's, it's worth to us.
Don LaGreca
It is so interesting.
Unknown Speaker
I don't, I, you know, this is one where we could play the game of who could it be. But I, I really think, like I said, the only team I'm looking at is New England and Mike Brable because they, you, you know, with. When you bring in a guy like him, like, you're not looking to do a long term rebuild, you're. You're trying to make it happen. Now you've got the quarterback, you love him, and now you've got to build a roster around him that can win while he's in his rookie deal.
Don LaGreca
Now Field Yates was on with DNR earlier today. Great stuff from Field, which is odd because he was on a show where the producer looks exactly like him. I wonder how awkward that was. Although he wasn't in studio so it didn't matter any.
Unknown Speaker
Who's more handsome? Who would you say is more handsome?
Don LaGreca
Oh, wow. Don't make me answer that question.
Unknown Speaker
Put him side by side. Who would you take?
Don LaGreca
Well, I'm not taking either of them. I'm gonna take air. But if, but who's the better looking of the two? No offense to our guy rj, but I think Field Yates is really.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I think, I think he's, he's fair.
Don LaGreca
He's Peyton and rj Z Lock.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that's not even close.
Unknown Speaker
How dare you.
Peter Rosenberg
You mean a term that's just.
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Unknown Speaker
What is wrong.
Don LaGreca
No, I'm not talking about. No, I would take RJ every day of the week. Friend wise, talent wise. But you're saying look wise. Peyton's a better looking guy than Eli.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, wait, you think, you think I think it's ridiculous.
Peter Rosenberg
You're saying actual looks. I Think you meant Peyton the player over Eli the.
Don LaGreca
No, no. Then that would be insulting. Rj.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I think. I think first of all, Peyton and Eli. Neither is winning a beauty contest. But I. I don't think Peyton's better looking than Eli.
Don LaGreca
Well, that's.
Unknown Speaker
Obviously, I don't either because, you know, but you think about the Frankenstein head he's got.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's a tough. Wow.
Unknown Speaker
I'll tell you what.
Peter Rosenberg
Frankenstein head, that's.
Unknown Speaker
I'm sorry, I had to go there. I'm protecting my guy.
Don LaGreca
Rj. I. I think.
Unknown Speaker
I think RJ Santillo has the dashing, you know, dark, handsome looks, but so does. I don't think Field. Field, he's. They got similar looks, but he seems a little paler, a little more like milk Toasty, A little more like, you know, Midwest. Whereas, rj, he's giving you New York. Him in a Hugo Boss, little silk.
Peter Rosenberg
You're putting him in silk now?
Unknown Speaker
Forget it, man. He'll not. Yeah, a little silk suit and knock it out of the park.
Peter Rosenberg
Interesting.
Unknown Speaker
He'll own a room when he walks in.
Don LaGreca
So there's more from Diana.
Peter Rosenberg
There we go.
Don LaGreca
Even though this subject is.
Unknown Speaker
Enough of this.
Peter Rosenberg
There's a lot here, but go ahead.
Don LaGreca
The phone lines are getting busier as the first round nears nearest purse source. The Broncos and Texans are attempting to move up the draft order while the Giants are trying to acquire a second first round pick at the back end. Back end of the round. So because the Giants have the two third round picks, they could probably take their second and the two third round picks to move back into the first round. So it's just a matter of who they could deal with.
Unknown Speaker
Denver's at 20 and who's the other team?
Don LaGreca
The. The Houston Texans.
Unknown Speaker
Texans at 25. Yeah, you'd be crazy not to make a move at 2025. You'd have to know. I mean, Minnesota's not taking a quarterback. The Rams not taking a quarterback. Well, Ravens aren't taking a quarterback. The Lions aren't taking a quarterback.
Don LaGreca
Well, here's what, here's what Fields was saying about Sanders dropping and what that means for where quarterbacks will be taken in the first round.
Unknown Speaker
It's possible he drops. Not a lot, but it's possible. What I would say is this year compared to last year, we have a more finite number of teams in the market for quarterbacks. Let's just go through the board and let's get past the first. Let's call it seven picks. The jets being the end of that run. The Saints at nine, the question is, do they love them enough to take him at 9? Sounds like not the next quarterback needy team. Is the Steelers at 21? A long way to go, right? Well, are they certain to take Shador Sanders?
Don LaGreca
Could.
Unknown Speaker
Is it a guarantee? Not a guarantee. So if they don't take him at 21, the question I think becomes this. There are, in my estimation, if once we get past 21, the Steelers are kind of out of the quarterback mix for right now because they don't have a second round pick, then you're talking about four quarterbacks not named Cam Ward, Shador Sanders, Jackson Dart, Jayla Milro, Tyler Schuck, and I would argue three obvious quarterback needy teams. The Browns, the Giants and the Saints. If we get past 21 and there's four quarterbacks left and three quarterback needy teams, it begs this question. Are those teams going to get into a derby to move back up the board or are they going to say, hey, we can be a little bit patient here and hold our powder in the middle to late rounds because they're so, so much talent in the day two slash day three range of this year's class. So I think patience could prevail tonight. And that would be the way in which Shador Sanders slides to maybe towards the end of the first round, which is where I had him in my mock draft, 29th overall to the Browns in a trade up, which perhaps I don't know ironically, but maybe very coolly, if that's a word, reunite him with Travis Hunter in Cleveland from Colorado.
Don LaGreca
And that's. And that's why I don't think if Cleveland trades out of two, that the team trading into two is going to do it for a quarterback.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys want me to talk to my guys?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, talk to you guys.
Peter Rosenberg
You want me to call Adam Peters, see if we're willing to talk?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, see if he's got that. But you know what, what he said there at the end though, guys, don't, don't, don't like just completely glaze over it. The idea of somebody taking.
Peter Rosenberg
You turn the music up a bit. Yeah, I'm sorry, the Rick Ross. Yeah, no, sorry, continue.
Unknown Speaker
If you get Shador later after getting Hunter, that's an interesting scenario, isn't it? Like that, that all of a sudden.
Peter Rosenberg
Because now that's sexy now. Now we're having that conversation.
Unknown Speaker
So if you're the Giants and somebody trades the two takes Carter, which lets Hunter fall in your lap at three.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah.
Unknown Speaker
And then later in the first, you find a way to like pick 20 or pick 25 and take Shador. Are you now Don, you're a Giants fan? Are you now like is it moving now? Did it move for you?
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, wait, you mean movement?
Unknown Speaker
A little bit of move.
Don LaGreca
Get some movement. I don't see how that doesn't do it for you. Right? I mean I, I would think you would have to consider that a success. You get a quarterback, second rated quarterback at least at times during the draft analysis on the board. And you get a forever player in Hunter, which I think also turns on John Mara because again, their forever guy was Barkley. Hunter can be that star guy. Right. That you could sell jerseys for all the places they love that, you know. So yeah, there's a lot of different scenarios here, but it's really, really heating up, guys. It's, it's, it's really going to be fun to see how this is all going to go down.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't take it all. I just wish it was coming tonight.
Don LaGreca
And here is Adam Schefter just now on NFL Live. Okay, Giants aren't taking Sanders. Whoopee. This is how they feel. I'm not telling you that this is what's going to happen, but I think that they feel like they have amply addressed the quarterback position. They signed a 10 time Pro bowl quarterback. They signed a former number one. I know they're not taking him at three. Honestly, is there anyone and I could be dead wrong about this and I'll be on tomorrow at 3:00 to take your slings and arrows. Is there anyone really right now thinking that the Giants are going to be taking Shadur Sanders at 3? Anyway, thanks for playing but I have.
Unknown Speaker
To love a ten time Pro Bowl. I know.
Peter Rosenberg
Stop.
Unknown Speaker
Former number one. When was Winston. I love Adam too. When was, when was Winston drafted?
Peter Rosenberg
19, something like that. 18. No, 18.
Unknown Speaker
Like it's got to be like right. That first former first round pick isn't on a resume anymore when you.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you mean where in the round?
Unknown Speaker
No, he was the number one pick.
Peter Rosenberg
He was number one overall year.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Seven, eight years ago.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker
Like don't you think if you've been in the league more than five years, you're no longer.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, we can't refer to that. You know that now we want to be talking Pro Bowls.
Don LaGreca
At least an athlete which didn't Jim Thorpe. I don't think the Giants should take him either. This is, I gotta tell you, you know I love the guy.
Unknown Speaker
No, I, I do. I have such respect for Chef.
Don LaGreca
I just don't.
Unknown Speaker
You could tell when he gives you, when he's delivering those answers, that's him saying, I'm so sick of this. I'm just gonna keep. Keep repeating the same thing because I'm done talking about it.
Don LaGreca
Well, come on, let's get the calls going. What do you want? What scenario you want the Giants and the jets to do here? The G. The jets could make a deal. We talked about that. Sounds like Cleveland's hot to get rid of the second pick. Who do you want the Giants to take it? 3. Who do you want them to take? A quarterback if they're able to move into the first round.
Unknown Speaker
1-800-Let'S make it like this, Don. Let's make it like this. What will like using Peter's vernacular, what has to happen tonight for your team, any NFL team you're a fan of, to make it move a little.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, you're saying it worse.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
To get a little movement is reasonable for it to make it move.
Unknown Speaker
Make his move.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Alan, no, no, no. You're gonna get us fired here.
Don LaGreca
I'm not even. I'm not sure anything Peter does tonight is gonna create movement.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don LaGreca
Or just enter my mind. No offense to you. I love you, but no, no, no. What would Peter do? Or what's moving on Peter?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, that's not what he means. He means what has to happen in the draft for the listener to feel some movement tonight.
Don LaGreca
But my point is, is that if I'm worried about other people's movement, it's a Peter thing. And I don't want to think about Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't want to think about my movement.
Don LaGreca

It's all Ray, man.

But Alan's going to be. It's a TV vehicle for Allen, so good job. Out of him as Walt Clyde Frazier. A little under the weather. So Alan is filling in for him. He'll have the call with Breen, right?

I'm gonna do the right thing tonight.
Unknown Speaker
Wait, what is the right thing? Because you know, some people at the station are going to have my game on mute.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, believe me, I'm not doing that.
Unknown Speaker
You know, you know, I take, I, I take offense when a teammate is. Is having an opportunity of a lifetime.
Don LaGreca
Well, in fairness, not that I think it would change at all, but when he said that he didn't know that you were calling the game.
Unknown Speaker
I don't think it'd be a difference.
Don LaGreca
I don't think it's gonna make a difference either.
Peter Rosenberg
I question whether they even consider you a teammate.
Unknown Speaker
Oh, that hurt. But I felt that one. Right. I felt. I have taken knee here real quick.
Peter Rosenberg
But that's, let's, you know, take it, Take a, take a Few counts. Give it a second. Standing eight. Take a standing eight.
Unknown Speaker
Standing eight now.
Peter Rosenberg
Now. I'll.
Don LaGreca
I'll be.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll be locked in to the MSG broadcast. I'm not going to be watching the draft because it's 2025 and I have an operational smartphone. So I'll know what's happening over there. Not to mention my commies don't pick for a long time. You know what I mean? Might be midnight before they get up the.
Unknown Speaker
You're. Eric. I actually admire it. I want to be there one day as a Jets fan. I'm just so bored of it all.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not saying. Listen. I'm not saying we're going to win the super bowl next year, but I can say, say 100. Watch this right now. Listen to me now and remember this later. I can say with absolute and complete certainty we will get a good grade for our draft and Adam Peters will do the right things this weekend. I'm sure. I'm sure.
Don LaGreca
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Sometimes you get. When you get a guy, you know, it doesn't mean you're going to win, but I know that they're not going to do something that I go, oh, my God. They. I can't believe he just. That that's what. To me, that's almost as important as finding the quarterback is. Did you find that guy? And one of the frustrating parts of the jets and the Giants over the last several years is there were a couple times where we thought we might have found that guy. You know, Joe Douglas pulled off a trade or two that made you go, oh, this Joe Douglas, he's. He's on to something. Same with Joe Shane. But then over time, in the case of Douglas, obviously didn't work out. Shane, it remains to be seen. But you guys would, I'm sure, both agree this is a critically important draft for Joe Shane.
Unknown Speaker
Yes.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, absolutely.
Unknown Speaker
This is his career.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, at least here or anywhere.
Don LaGreca
Because when you fail in New York, man, it just seems to be epic. Not too many guys that fail in New York get a second opportunity someplace else. And that's why I do think that the idea that Shane is going to put all of his eggs in the 25 basket, yeah, that looks good to save your current job, but it looks awful for you to find another job someplace else. It's like this dude only cared about himself. That's not what good general managers do. Good general managers try to leave a place better than where they found it in the hopes that they can land another gig. So, yeah, of course, he Wants to be as good as he can for 25 to save his job, but also part of saving his reputation is to say, hey, look at what I did for the Giants even after they fired me. Look at those draft picks that are still flourishing in New York. Or look how much better they are because I was there. You still want to do that. You still want to get another gig somewhere. So the idea that he's just going to completely blow up the Giants future. So what you're saying, Peter, is that you'd be a little, you would look cross eyed at Washington if they traded up to two to take Sanders. Like that would be, that would bother you.
Peter Rosenberg
That would be a moment where I go, oh, you know what I said about Peters, I disagree. Whereas you know, the off season coming along and you're the team that takes a small risk on giving Debo Samuel a shot on a prove it year. That's the kind of stuff I want to see for my team.
Unknown Speaker
I want to know the last time Peter face palmed about something his team did.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh my God. How, how much time do you have?
Unknown Speaker
Right?
Don LaGreca
The last time.
Unknown Speaker
No, I mean the last time.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, fate. Face palm or like ouch. No face palm.
Unknown Speaker
Like as if like to say we are just a joke of a franchise. When you face palm that's like that ultimate disgust and embarrassment about something that happened.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's only been, I've only been not facepalming for a year and a half.
Unknown Speaker
Well, okay, so the last time you.
Peter Rosenberg
Did it, I'd probably have to go back to just the year before. I mean, I don't even remember Alan. It was so often for so long.
Unknown Speaker
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, God rest his soul. The Dwayne Haskins draft was a complete disaster. That was just, that was just a mess. Awful what happened of course to him. But it didn't work out in Washington at all. That was a pick that was forced by Dan Snyder. It was, it was repeated over and over again. This is only the first time. Now they have moments still where I go, oh really? I don't like that. I didn't like love that they let Diami Brown go in the off season. I thought he was coming along. I didn't love that they let John Dotson go win a Super bowl in Philadelphia. But overall what I'm seeing consistently is a, is a group now that's making reasonable decisions over and over again. That's all you can hope for.
Don LaGreca
All right, let's get back to the busy phones. 1-800-919-3776 Dave and Wes Caldwell. You're on ESPN, New York.
Unknown Speaker
Hey, guys. How's it going?
Don LaGreca
Good.
Unknown Speaker
So with the draft, as a Giants fan, I think I'm leaning more Carter than Hunter. But you were talking before, like, which team could trade up that would probably trade up for something like Carter more than anybody else. I think the Lions, they need another pass rusher and everything. So that would be my team that I be worried about the most. If they trade with the Browns, how.
Are they doing that?
I don't. When it comes to draft capital and all that stuff, it's always a guess, it's fanfare. But that's the only thing I can see. Like which team? Like, you know.
Yeah, but they're. They're a 28. They don't have. They. They don't have enough to make that kind of a move.
It's just about capital in a sense. With that, you're right again, that was. That would be someone who I would consider. If you're going to trade up to get someone like Carter and you need a defensive end or an edge rusher, then in my head, they're the first.
Don LaGreca
Team that comes to mind because they are. Everyone got hurt by the team. It's not an awful point. But if I'm Cleveland and I'm trading the second overall pick and the most attractive thing you can offer me this year is the 28th pick, now, if you're telling me I'll get the first round pick next year. But guys, I think Detroit's gonna be a really good team, so they're gonna be drafting probably north of 25 next year, too.
Unknown Speaker
If.
Don LaGreca
If I'm trading the second overall pick and you're telling me I've got to wait until 28, I don't think that's going to happen. But I understand his thinking. That would be a nice thing for Detroit to add. For sure.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. Logic. Right.
Don LaGreca
But I just don't know if that's a trade partner. James in New Hyde park is on. Don Han and Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
Hi, James.
Unknown Speaker
Hey, guys.
Don Han, Rosenberg.
Love you guys.
Big fan.
Don LaGreca
Thank you.
Unknown Speaker
Thanks for taking my call. I'm a big believer in offensive and defensive line. I think we need Carter. I don't think Hunter would add much value to our team at this point of the development. And I hope, because I think we have Wilson and Winston for a year or two. I hope the Giants draft Milroe late in the first round. Trade up, get him. He's an athletic freak. They could develop him for a couple years. Unlike the Colts did With Richardson.
Right.
And I think Milroe can be the quarterback of the future. I think he could be a stud. They'd have their defensive line, get some offensive line. Later on in the draft, they'd have their quarterback of the future. And I'll be super happy. That's an A plus draft to me.
Don LaGreca
I'd be happy.
Unknown Speaker
Fantastic call, James.
Don LaGreca
Fantastic. Very good.
Peter Rosenberg
Was that Ballard? The man's been Milroe horny for weeks.
Unknown Speaker
But that's fantastic because of the thinking that you have there in that, that that's what Milroe is. Melrose. A guy that you draft but you don't rush. And really, Richardson was that too. But, you know, the Colts couldn't help themselves because he just looked. He looked the part, but then he couldn't be the part once the lights turned bright.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, and, and, and to me, if you filled your draft room with veteran quarterbacks, you obviously, if you're going to draft a quarterback, are not going to get someone that's a rush.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
What would be the point? Why did you go out and get Russell Wilson to be your quarterback if you're going to rush to get him?
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Rush to get Russ out.
Unknown Speaker
The only problem is, is that if you have yourself a season where you're middling around and you'll get those fans that will get the calls, you know, Artie and Canarsi will be all like, you know, they did this with Eli halfway through the season. They started him. How come you can't do this with this kid? You know, you'll get that. And it's. It's not the thing. You cannot rush the process just because there's an impatience or a history of it.
Don LaGreca
John, North Carolina, you're on espn, New York.
Unknown Speaker
Hey, what's up, guys? I listen to you guys every single day. It's awesome.
Don LaGreca
Thanks, man.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, I appreciate it. Hey, nobody's talking about this team, which is really weird because they're very loud. He is a very loud person. What about Shador going at 12 to Dallas?
Don LaGreca
They don't have a backup.
Unknown Speaker
They have Milton and Greer. That's it. Dak has a tendency of being hurt all the time.
What a disaster that would be. It's. Here's the thing. You're right in the sense that Jerry Jones loves to just flip things over. He loves to do what he wants to do. You know, the relationship is there with the Sanders family. All of it makes sense. They want to get out of the Dak business at some point. Point. So what you're saying logically like is. Oh, yeah, I could see it because he's crazy enough to do it, but what a disaster that would be. Cowboys team that just needs to get more talent. It wouldn't make sense.
Don LaGreca
You wouldn't think for a guy that's north of 80, that's going to be thinking about, you know, that kind of a project. However, Jones did talk about taking a quarterback at 12.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, well, we've got a major commitment with Dag, and so you weigh all of that. But I was going to add to this whole conversation very often that somebody will step up and say, now we got this guy right here. We've got him, and we just signed him under contract. But guess what? Guys get hurt. So you bet your whole house that you got him, and then all of a sudden, you don't have him. So that's when your old mind starts saying, well, if this guy did get hurt, what would we do this year? There you go.
Don LaGreca
Well, listen, he's talking. He's.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, he's saying, no words were coming out.
Unknown Speaker
Just.
Wouldn't that be like the. The Romo, Dak Prescott situation where Romo got hurt?
That came in.
Don LaGreca
But, yeah, but you're still. First of all, you don't even know if he'd be ready to play in year one to fill in for Dak. You've got that kind of financial commitment. You want to win with Dak now you've got a 12th overall pick that you go out and get somebody that can help your team. Now what? Jerry's going to turn. When does he turn? He turns 83, October 13th. You know, God, hope he lives forever, but this guy wants to win now. And the kind of draft capital at 12 where you can go out and get a player that can help you now, and you're going to pick up a quarterback that you don't even know for sure can play in the NFL in 2025, and that's going to be your backup to Dak in a year where you feel like you have to.
Unknown Speaker
Win, the fans would revolve as if they haven't yet.
Don LaGreca
But he said it, so he's got to be held accountable for what he said. Now, maybe he's just playing a game, but I can't beat up the caller for his opinion when the owner said he's not ruling out that possibility.
Unknown Speaker
It's not on John. He. His call, all of it. When you piece it together, it makes sense, but it doesn't make sense in reality.
Don LaGreca
I know, but, you know, Jerry's. Jerry's Jerry, Jerry is Jerry for sure. There's no doubt about that. Danny on Long Island. Always fun to talk to you. Danny on ESPN New York. Hi.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, it's funny you listen to Peter that, that's the demeanor of a guy who has the guy. He's going to be watching the draft tonight, locked in on the next, drinking an old fashioned, feet up on the table, laughing, laughing, laughing as his, as his football trap explodes, as Jet and Giants fans are pulling their hair out. Look at. Peter has the quarterback just like about 25 other teams. It's. And I'm in the same boat as the Giants so I'm interested to see what the Steelers do. I'm watching the Knicks. To me it's a non sporting event. The only thing I can't stand any more than the draft now is tomorrow when we get draft grades for people who never sat for the professional football. We're going to, we're going to grade, we're going to grade the draft.
Don LaGreca
It's really crazy how Dan Peter are coming together recently.
Unknown Speaker
It really is.
Peter Rosenberg
Language.
Unknown Speaker
Danny. Danny, I just need to know because you said you're going to watch the Knicks now you're watching msg, not tnt, right?
I watch them. I'm watching msg. My other kids will be filling up my chat, I'm sure. And I'll take a little mill rail for the Steelers. I like that play in that court. The Steelers, besides having a better team are really in the same identical situation as the Giants in regards to the quarterback. I mean, I mean we're going to Mesa Reel for God's sake. Come on.
You don't have, you don't have one. I know.
I, I think, I think that the Steelers would take standards. I think that the organization has enough gravitas to settle him down to tell the old man to shut up and to send him on a good course of learning for a year behind, you know, he cannot go to a circus. It certainly can't go to Dallas. My God.
Maybe they're that team that's trying to move up. Who knows? Don't know, you know, but that's a Good one though. 21 Pittsburgh.
Peter Rosenberg
The only thing I'll push back on from everything my, my good friend Danny said was that he said that I'm in a situation like 25 teams. No, I mean 25 teams may have their quarterback but not, I would say about 10 have the guy.
Unknown Speaker
10 have the guy.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean even, even in just this division in, in the AFC east, you can only say for sure one team has the guy.
Unknown Speaker
Well, New England has a guy. They.
Peter Rosenberg
They have a guy. No, no. They have a guy.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah. They feel like he's it.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, they can feel however they want. Alan. I'm speaking on that.
Don LaGreca
They drafted him. They must think he's.
Peter Rosenberg
They think he's a guy. And by the way, I think we all agree that without health problems, Tuatanga Valoa is a guy. Could be. Could be a very good guy. But how can you count on Tuatanga Valoa?
Unknown Speaker
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
So then you go to the. Then you go to the AFC North. Half the division has a guy. Lamar and Joe, The AFC South, a CJ Stroud. Appears to be a guy.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, he's a guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Trevor Lawrence seems to be hovering in the middle of nowhere. We thought he was the guy. Is he a guy or the guy?
Unknown Speaker
Yeah, he's hovering between. Between the guy and a guy. They just paid him to be the guy, though. So when you pay that much for the guy, he's got to eventually become the guy.
Peter Rosenberg
But you poke around, and the more you poke around, the more you realize.
Don LaGreca
He'S the guy behind the guy. Right?
Peter Rosenberg
And there are a lot of guys. There are a lot of teams playing the guy behind the guy.
Don LaGreca
Listen, don't show off. You're in good shit.
Peter Rosenberg
Sorry.
Don LaGreca
Sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, who knows? Maybe. Hey, by the way, maybe he falls off a cliff next year. I don't know.
Don LaGreca
Don't say things like that.
Peter Rosenberg
I hope not.
Don LaGreca
Words have power.
Alan Hahn

Peter Rosenberg
Wait. Don, you need to understand.
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
This is triumph.
Unknown Speaker
Yes. Let this roll.
Don LaGreca
I never heard it.
Peter Rosenberg
It's one of the greatest Wu Tang songs ever made.
Unknown Speaker
It's gonna. It's gonna be number one.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's instrumental, but still.
Don LaGreca
Ah, sounds good. What album? It's on.
Peter Rosenberg
It's on the second album. Wu Tang Forever, their first single off the second album.
Unknown Speaker
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Which is a huge deal. They're coming off of an album that surprised the entire world. Came out of nowhere, and then four years later, with a huge budget, they dropped that. Which is why it sounds so much bigger and more produced and clean.
Don LaGreca
Cool.
Peter Rosenberg
You're making me sick right now.
Don LaGreca
1-800-93776.
Unknown Speaker
Some news here at the. I'm sorry. You know, everybody wants a voice today. We'll be all back together again on Monday. But just a little bit of news here at the series game three tonight here in Detroit. Isaiah Stewart who missed game two ruled out a game three. So once again a guy that is one of their. They're physical tough guys. Not available. Knicks got to take advantage of this.
Don LaGreca
And coverage begins at 6:30 right after ENN at 6. So this is your chance to call. Oh and by the way since we're on that subject, game time is brought to you by telemundier Irish whiskey because when it's game time it's toilet time. Knicks and pistons tonight right here on 880 right after our show at 6:30 and coverage of the NFL draft will be on 1050 starting at 7 and then we'll be on 880 after the Knicks tullamore. Do the original triple distilled triple blend in triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore dew or try the new Tullamore Dew honey during tonight's action glasses up to enjoying Tullamore due responsibly. How about Scotty G on Long Island? You're on ESPN New York.
Unknown Speaker
Don Allen love the show. Alan, love you on get up.
Thank you.
As far as the draft, what do you think about Justin 7 Shador is there. Do you think that Muji and Aaron go get their quarterback?
Don LaGreca
Zero. They think they have their quarterback Justin Fields.
Unknown Speaker
No, I gotta tell you it wouldn't shock me. Wouldn't shock.
Don LaGreca
No, there's zero chance.
Unknown Speaker
I don't think it's gonna happen. I'm just saying that it, it's it. I wouldn't be stunned.
Don LaGreca
Zero.
Unknown Speaker
You're going zero.
Don LaGreca
Zero chance. What do you think the offensive lineman or the tight end then I'd probably go offensive line. They've got to reconstruct that the tight end is a need and is a good one. That's there at 7 for sure. But the thing with Sanders you went on and got Justin Fields was like it was almost like a first round pick. A Jace Young K 24 years old, very cap friendly contract giving him a chance in those two years to prove that he is your franchise quarterback. And what if he is? Then you just wasted the pick of Sanders like they did this.
Unknown Speaker
Like I said, you're speaking in logic. I'm speaking as a fan. I just think Sanders gonna be really good. So you know is there a moment that they just go we can't let this guy pass. Like, like could that happen? That would tell me a lot about this. You know this New regime. But, you know, do, do I think your logic is what prevails? Of course I do, but I'm just. As a fan, I'm like, I, I wouldn't be stunned. It would be really interesting to see.
Don LaGreca
I, I just listen, anything's possible, right?
Unknown Speaker
Because if he's not like, if Fields isn't any good, then you're right back where you started from.
Don LaGreca
But.
Unknown Speaker
And there's no evidence that Fields is going to knock it out of the park. There's no evidence of that, no. He's on his third team.
Don LaGreca
But you're also going to be trying to develop a young quarterback and you figure, I might be able to crack this code here. And oh, by the way, I'm also trying to develop Shador Sanders and becoming the next great franchise quarterback. I mean, can you focus on one? It's down. Focusing on two.
Unknown Speaker
Focus on two and see if I got two chances to get it right. I'll think about that. But again, if, if the, if, if Mason Graham's on the board, you take him and you don't even. And you just. That's it. You close shop. Done for the day. Perfect pick for them. I like Tyler Warren. The idea of a tight end. Tight end at 7, though, you know, I don't know.
Don LaGreca
I get it. That's why I probably think they go alignment offense or defense before they would go tight end. But remember, you know, having two quarterbacks trying to develop two quarterbacks, that means, you know, one of them failed and you don't want it to be the quarterback that you took seven overall. Now, again, it's not a hard contract to get out of with Justin Fields, but I think the reason you went after Fields is I don't think you were in love with any of the quarterbacks. Not so much. I don't think there'll be a quarterback at seven. Clearly there's going to be quarterbacks at seven and most likely Sanders is going to be there at 7. If you had to bet that's he's going to be there at 7.
Unknown Speaker
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
And if they did their work, they would know that that was a distinct possibility. So why even mess with Fields if.
Peter Rosenberg
If I, I don't want anyone to draft Mason Graham just because I don't like the look of his face.
Don LaGreca
Really?
Unknown Speaker
Let me see.
Peter Rosenberg
Take a look at it. I don't like what's going on here.
Unknown Speaker
What don't you like?
Peter Rosenberg
He's got a pusick.
Unknown Speaker
He was.
Peter Rosenberg
He's got a pusick.
Don LaGreca
Oh, well, that's not a nice thing to say while he's in the room and he can hear you well.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, sorry, Anthony.
Unknown Speaker
I definitely want him on the team. Oh, I know you can't see me.
Don LaGreca
But I just gotta.
Peter Rosenberg
But by the way, Anthony, there's one thing to be a small man with the fusik. There's another thing to be a 6 foot 3, 320 pound giant with the pusick. It's not what you want. It's not what you're looking for.
Don LaGreca
Well, what I'm looking for some enn. Hopefully Peter is ready because how often do you get an ENN on draft day and a big game three between the pistons.
Peter Rosenberg
And if you hold your breath and you play your cards right, I won't even mention this godforsaken draft.
Unknown Speaker
No, no no, no no no no.

Podcast Summary: Don, Hahn & Rosenberg – Hour 3: NFL Draft Rumors
Release Date: April 24, 2025
In the third hour of the Don, Hahn & Rosenberg podcast, hosts Don LaGreca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg delve deep into the swirling rumors surrounding the upcoming NFL Draft. As teams jockey for position and strategize their picks, the trio provides insightful analysis, engages with listener calls, and shares their perspectives on key players and potential trades shaping the draft landscape.
The discussion centers around the intense activity surrounding the draft's first round, with particular emphasis on the Cleveland Browns' potential strategies and the New York Giants' maneuvers to secure advantageous picks. The hosts explore the implications of trading up or down in the draft order and the impact of these moves on team compositions.
Don LaGreca highlights Cleveland's active interest in the number two overall pick, noting, "Cleveland has holes to fill and only three top 100 picks to address them." This scarcity of high-value picks may drive the Browns to consider trading back to accumulate more selections, thereby bolstering their roster depth.
The Giants emerge as a focal point, with speculation about their intentions to trade up for specific players. LaGreca discusses the possibility of the Giants leveraging their third-round picks to maneuver into better first-round positions. A listener, James from New Hyde Park, supports this by expressing, "I think Milroe can be the quarterback of the future. He could be a stud."
Peter Rosenberg raises questions about the Patriots' intentions, pondering whether General Manager Mike Vrabel might view players like Abdul Carter as pivotal to their success. The Patriots' potential to cherry-pick talent that aligns with their long-term vision is a topic of interest.
The Cowboys' quarterback situation is scrutinized, especially regarding their relationship with Dak Prescott and the implications of drafting Shador Sanders at pick 12. Rosenberg shares skepticism, stating, "Zero chance [they'll trade up for a quarterback]." The discussion also touches on other teams like the Los Angeles Rams, Baltimore Ravens, and Detroit Lions, analyzing their draft needs and possible moves.
A significant portion of the conversation revolves around the prospects Travis Hunter and Abdul Carter. LaGreca posits, "They’re trading up for Carter, so that means Hunter falls to you." The debate centers on whether teams prioritize immediate impact players like Carter or invest in developing talents like Hunter.
Shador Sanders' potential slide in the draft order is examined, with Rosenberg suggesting he might fall to the end of the first round: "I had him in my mock draft, 29th overall to the Browns in a trade up." Similarly, Jackson Dart's prospects and his impact on teams like Washington are discussed, with an air of uncertainty about his drafting position.
The Giants' quarterback situation is a hot topic, especially their commitment to Justin Fields versus the introduction of Mason Graham. LaGreca debates the feasibility of developing two quarterbacks simultaneously: "Can you focus on one? It's down." Rosenberg voices concerns about the Giants' ability to manage this dual investment effectively.
The call-in segment features passionate opinions from fans like Dave and Wes Caldwell and John from North Carolina. Key takeaways include:
Dave and Wes Caldwell: Leaning towards drafting Abdul Carter over Travis Hunter for the Giants, citing the need for offensive and defensive line strength.
"I think we need Carter. I don't think Hunter would add much value to our team at this point of the development."
John from North Carolina: Expresses concerns about the Giants potentially drafting both Fields and Sanders, emphasizing the risks of overextending.
"They're going out and get somebody that can help your team now, and you’re going to pick up a quarterback that you don't even know for sure can play in the NFL in 2025."
The hosts collectively underscore the volatility and unpredictability of the NFL Draft. LaGreca emphasizes the strategic depth required, stating, "It's really heating up, guys. It's, it's, it's really going to be fun to see how this is all going to go down." Rosenberg adds a note of cautious optimism, hoping for a balanced draft that benefits teams without precipitating undue turmoil.
The conversation concludes with reflections on past draft decisions and their long-term impacts, highlighting the importance of thoughtful selection and the potential consequences of rushed picks.
