This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. That sounds like heaven to me. Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers. Not gonna lie to you, the magnolia cupcakes are ringing off. You didn't have one?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I can't do that.
Don Hahn
You want. You won't break even on a.
Peter Rosenberg
Not doing it. Not today.
Don Hahn
Why?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't even like cupcakes. I'm not big on sweets to begin with.
Don Hahn
That's not your heart. That's not your hard temptation. What's the hard part for you? What's hard for you?
Peter Rosenberg
Temptations will probably just be like fried food, fried chicken.
Don Hahn
Really?
Peter Rosenberg
Go over to grandma's house.
Don Hahn
We're talking a lot about race today. Yeah, this is. My man just said, oh, you know me. It's gotta be the chicken.
Peter Rosenberg
That fried chicken. Big Mac and cheese.
Don Hahn
They be calling you, man.
Ty Butler
It be calling me. It'd be calling me.
Don Hahn
Come on, buddy. Come on, buddy.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo, I've got.
Don Hahn
This is really.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo. That's my favorite movie of all time. New Jack City.
Don Hahn
Oh, one of the better movies.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Favorite of all times. A bit much.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on. Who are you to judge my favorite movie of all?
Don Hahn
You know, that's a bit. But, like, hold on.
Peter Rosenberg
It's my personal preference.
Don Hahn
I love New Jack City. All right? I've seen it a thousand times. I've been. I've literally been a fan of it since before you were born. Literally. But. But the part. But that teacher you killed.
Peter Rosenberg
That was my mother.
Ty Butler
That was my mother.
Don Hahn
Judd Nelson can't be in your favorite movie, bro. And ice tea of that era. This isn't today's iced tea. That was ice tea. Had literally. He walked out of the acting class onto the set. He was like, I still have my notes in my hand.
Peter Rosenberg
Wesley Snipes, though. See, I want it to be. And we got to get to sports. I want it to be growing up. This sounds crazy. I wanted to be in that mob life.
Don Hahn
I'm surprised it didn't work for you.
Peter Rosenberg
Aspirations.
Don Hahn
Yeah. You come off as someone who would have fared really well in the gangster space. I'm surprised you ended up being a sports talk radio nerd instead. Who, according to Rock, who's the guy who calls you Urkel?
Peter Rosenberg
Eddie and Rocklin.
Don Hahn
To Eddie and Rocklin. You're a long ways away.
Peter Rosenberg
That's how I fell in love with General Hospital. A mob show.
Don Hahn
I don't have time to find out what you mean by that, but I am curious. General Hospital's a mob show.
Peter Rosenberg
It is. The foundation of the show is mob Sonny Corinthos.
Don Hahn
Oh, really? Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That's how I got into it.
Don Hahn
That's the origin story of General Hospital.
Peter Rosenberg
You guys laugh at me. I'm watching soap operas.
Don Hahn
But really it's a gangster show is what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
It's now deviated from that. Like, significantly deviated from it. But at its core.
Don Hahn
You know what always weirded me out about. About the soaps? They always feel like every scene feels like the music and mood is like dark. Like everything's dark on a soap opera. It's so rarely light. Like actually feels like authentically light. It's. You know what I'm saying?
Peter Rosenberg
Ironically, there's a guiding light show.
Don Hahn
I'm aware. All right, so you had a question for you, Sports Quay. We're into the callers. Some of the all Stars on the line. You said you had a sports question for me.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, so day by day I'm getting more confident and it's not really a hot take, but in my assertion that the Giants will win Week 1 against the Commanders, I think it's the perfect confluence of events. Russell Wilson, freshest he'll be all season. You, you look at me a certain way. I'm not expecting him to be great, but that's the freshest Russell Wilson is going to be all season.
Don Hahn
Great.
Peter Rosenberg
The Giants should have beaten the Commanders twice last year. Historically, they own them. Week one, we know it's the toughest week to bet because you just have no idea what's going to happen. It's like the most anything can happen on the schedule.
Don Hahn
Yeah, it's barely. It's barely football.
Peter Rosenberg
So the Giants come in, vastly improved defense. The Commanders be on the lookout for like over exceeded expectations hangover. And now you've got this Terry McLaurin situation. So I'm feeling better about my prediction that the Giants are going to upset your Washington team in week one. And then I'm driving in, or wasn't driving in, but I was Driving earlier today, listening to Barton Carlin and my man Harry Douglas was on the show and he was asked this question. Which team could take a step back this year?
Don Hahn
A team that actually could fall off, in my opinion, could be the Washington Commanders because of the Terry McLaurin situation. This is a team that was sixth on third downs. They were the number one fourth down conversion team in the NFL. They went 20 of 23. So if I'm an offensive coordinator and I'm Cliff Peensbury, do I feel confident going forward on fourth down if I don't have my number one wide receiver? Better yet, look at that roster and you say to yourself, who on that roster, from a receiver standpoint, can do the things that Terry McLaurin did for us a season ago or could do the things that Terry McLaurin has done his entire career being in Washington, playing with multiple quarterbacks, on and on and on Again, he's been the most consistent and the most constant for that organization, especially one that wasn't too sought out prior to last season. And I would also say this. There's already a lot that Jaden Daniels has to make up for when it comes to Washington. All the deficiencies. Last year, he was the leading rusher. He had 891 yards rushing. He led the Washington Commanders. That football team was 30th stopping run last season. You want to know who made up for those deficiencies? Jaden Daniels. So now to ask him to make up for that deficiency and not having a number one wide receiver, I don't think that's right for the Washington Commander.
Peter Rosenberg
I think they can be had week one.
Don Hahn
Well, all right. There's so many ways for me to break down this horrible, horrible take.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, coming at Harry Douglas. I love it.
Don Hahn
It's a bad take. It's a bad take. Number one, Terry's gonna be playing. So this whole thing is done on this idea of like, what are you gonna do without Terry McLaren? You won't. You won't be doing without Terry McLaren. I'm gonna go with the report from our colleague Diana Rossini just two days ago saying both sides really seem to feel like they're going to get this done. It's just not done yet. So I believe it will get done. You know, people who are serious about sitting out, in my opinion, and really might not come back, they don't show up to camp to like, take pictures with fans and walk around. I don't. I see this getting worked out. So that's my number one. Number two, the running, the Football thing. I do think they have one of the most underrated running back rooms in the. In the sport. But there was a problem last year, however. They went out and got a guy. There's this Laramie Tunsil character that they added to the left side. They're going to be a better team running the football. Brian Robinson underrated my opinion put the ball on the ground a couple times and there was a lot about that. Austin Eckler still had more in the tank that the people haven't really seen that much. And why are we acting as if Debo is just going to stink? He's not. We've decided last year so we decided it won't. It couldn't be different in Washington.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not a fat shamer, but the dude looks fat. He showed up to camp like put on. Put on some weight. You looking like Jock Peterson. Jock Peterson, my man Jock Peterson the other night. So look, I. I'm not saying Washington won't be good. That's not my take at all. I just think that week one they can be had. And the case for the Giants is fresh out the gate. Defense looks awesome. Dable looks closer to the guy who a couple years ago was the coach of the year.
Don Hahn
It could happen.
Peter Rosenberg
And Russell Wilson just plays average quarterback football. They beat the team that last year. They should have beaten twice.
Don Hahn
Should have beaten twice is a.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on man. Like it's an interesting. Neighbors is like dropping a ball on fourth down. We're not having to kick her.
Don Hahn
What happened in the second game that.
Peter Rosenberg
Was a close game.
Don Hahn
Was that the one that Malik dropped it though or. That was game one. That was the first game. That was the field goal game where Malik Neighbors dropped the one ball.
Peter Rosenberg
Then in the second game it was another close game. Would they win by six?
Don Hahn
Listen, what you're saying is a possibility. Week one is a complete toss up. And you know, if you have a team that has not found its groove yet like Terry's getting there, sure it's. I'm not. It's not the hottest take of all time but this huge step back Jaden made up. So for so many deficiencies they want a few close games that probably should.
Peter Rosenberg
Have been split Bengals, the Bears. Like there are a lot of games last year that. But real quick there is a correction to be had.
Don Hahn
Sure. But like for example, the. Everyone knows I talk about the Giants from a few years ago. The Giants beat Minnesota who was a very average playoff team and then they went to Philadelphia and literally. No, literally because I had Giants fans Coming up to me and they tried to like laugh in my face and act as if the commander's loss in Philadelphia was similar to the Giants loss. It wasn't similar. The Giants were not in that game from the opening drive. Right. The game was over literally before they got the ball. The game was over. Okay, so that's not a fair comp. The Giants taking a step back versus Washington, who went on the road and beat Tampa, who's not special. I'd probably put them as better than Minnesota from the year. From the Giants year. And then went to Detroit and beat who many people thought was the best team in the NFC soundly on the road and then, truth be told, against Philadelphia. I don't care how this sounds. People can shout me down all they want. They made mistakes and they deserve to lose. They put the football on the ground. But let's not act like the Eagles had solved the commander's offense. They just handed the ball back to the Eagles a few times and ended up getting losing to a better team.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but when people talk about a regression like that is obviously a negative connotation. The regression simply is. We don't think you're getting back to the NFC team.
Don Hahn
But that's not what. That's not what. Harry Douglas. Harry Douglas quotes sound a little stronger.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, so let me ask you this. What do you think Vegas has the over under and wins for the commanders this year?
Don Hahn
Well, I think I remember it. Nine and a half.
Peter Rosenberg
Nailed it. That feels awfully low for a team that was just in the NFC championship game.
Don Hahn
But. But that's be okay. Well, then I guess you and I aren't really arguing because them winning 10 or 11 games to me wouldn't be a regression. That would just be another really good year.
Peter Rosenberg
Or Vegas is saying it's on the table. They win nine games. Nine and a half. So it's on the table. They're a 9 and 8 football team.
Don Hahn
9 and 8 does would feel like a regression. A step back. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And all I'm saying is, you know.
Don Hahn
Vegas had them at last year. It wasn't. It wasn't near where they ended up.
Peter Rosenberg
I wasn't like four and a half. Five.
Don Hahn
I think five and a half.
Peter Rosenberg
All I'm saying is week one that's in anything can happen week.
Don Hahn
But that's why it's not a hot take. Yeah, you're right. Yo. Week one and week 19, 18, when I can't keep track anymore. Week one and week 18 are the same thing. What are you picking? What are you really.
Peter Rosenberg
It's hard. It's really hard to bet. But I guess the point of this conversation.
Don Hahn
What's the line right now? Washington minus three?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I think it's seven and a half, actually. They're more than a touchdown favorite.
Don Hahn
Oh, I do not like that line.
Peter Rosenberg
But the point I'm trying to make and why people locally should care is like, how do the. You see the Giant schedule to start the season? It's at Washington, it's at Dallas, then you're home for Kansas City, and then it's home for the Chargers.
Don Hahn
It's Washington minus six and a half, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, so it's come down since I last looked at it.
Don Hahn
That's a big line.
Peter Rosenberg
But at Washington, at Dallas, home for Kansas City, home for the Chargers, immediately you're like, yo, that's oh and four.
Don Hahn
But not necessarily, is what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
Is what I'm saying, because you can't the first week.
Don Hahn
Listen, I don't like them to be much better than 1 and 3.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not.
Don Hahn
But they could get to 2 and 2. I wouldn't be. I'm not shocked. If the Giants get to two and two. I'm not shocked.
Peter Rosenberg
I think there's no chance they're beating Kansas City.
Don Hahn
But are you. You're sure Kansas City comes out hot.
Peter Rosenberg
Because of how they lost?
Don Hahn
You think they're going to start this year smoking?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. This is like a different Kansas City team.
Don Hahn
You know what? I. Yeah, I think you're probably right.
Peter Rosenberg
I hope that, that because, remember, they were able to get away with not being.
Don Hahn
Because they were coming off the super.
Peter Rosenberg
Bowl because they were winning. Now you just got embarrassed. So I think I almost give them no chance to win that game against the Chiefs, the Cowboys, as long as Dak is healthy, they're not beating them. So those are the two losses right off the bat that I say you're not winning. Commanders and Chargers is where you. You kind of feel like, all right, we have a chance here. And that's before we get to the Saints, where the Saints are probably the worst team in football. So I don't know, man. I just feel that that game right there, Week one, right off the bat, that's their best chance to have fans, like, be excited early. It's the best fan, by the way. So the Giant over under is five and a half for wins this year. The only team worse than that is New Orleans. So there's a chance they're picking number two.
Don Hahn
Only five and a half is the second worst in the league.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, tied with a couple of other teams.
Don Hahn
Right, Right.
Peter Rosenberg
But four and a half is, like, the low point with New Orleans. So there's a chance, man, we're doing the same thing, looking ahead to the draft and. And I'm just trying to, like, game plan a way for us to not get there. Like, how do we avoid us having the same conversation again with the jets and the Giants?
Don Hahn
You're praying is what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm praying.
Don Hahn
I believe there was a New Jersey resident man named Jon Bon Jovi living on the prayer. I think he wrote. Yeah. Something about how you're feeling. And I get it. I've felt this way every year. It's in some ways even worse.
Peter Rosenberg
But that makes your job more fun. If they're good, bro, I want. They're not beating your team.
Don Hahn
I want the Giants to be good. I want the Giant. It's a nightmare. And by the way, it's not even fun when the commanders are good. And neither team here is good because people just get mad when I talk about them. So, I mean, don't get me wrong, the great Chris Russo can be on the air here for 30 years talking about, of all teams, the San Francisco Giants. You talk about a team distant from this market, the commanders might as well be in the market compared to the San Francisco Giants. I mean, I guess there is a history, but you get the idea. At this point, it's completely distant.
Peter Rosenberg
There's also division rival elements. Giant fans don't want to hear you waxing poetic about the commanders, but at.
Don Hahn
Least there's a relevance. They're connected.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
What the commanders do matters in this. In this market. We'll see. Listen, I do have fears about a commander. Step back to some degree, but it's to be expected in a year, too. I do think Jaden's still going to be very, very.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he's awesome. I've got no questions about him.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
It's like a.
Don Hahn
It's a dude.
Peter Rosenberg
He's awesome. He's. He's incredible. Jackson Dart we did here today is going to be starting in the preseason, so that's exciting, right?
Don Hahn
Yeah. Maybe we'll hear from Jackson Dart during the old ENN coming up at 6.
Peter Rosenberg
O', clock, which Anthony actually is able to do today because we don't kick him to the curb for our point.
Don Hahn
But it was the right call, wasn't it?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know.
Don Hahn
What.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm just kidding.
Don Hahn
We wouldn't have had this from New York. I'm not supposed to Say that. No, it's okay. We got it.
Peter Rosenberg
It's all good.
Don Hahn
But. Yeah, but we're live radio. I can't say no, don't say it again. We're gonna run out of dump time. But that's a bad word. That's one of the words.
Ty Butler
Stop. Stop.
Don Hahn
By the way, the beginning part of that could be a drop, like in one of our intros. Listen, From New York. You're telling me that's not just a drop on its own, it was not great.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe part of enn. But you're not from New York, you're from Maryland.
Don Hahn
I know, but.
Peter Rosenberg
So here's the thing with Anthony. Doing enns, what do these interns do? You know how sometimes in baseball you become concerned with DHS because it's like they're not playing the field, so they're not all that engaged. That's how I feel about Anthony. If he's not doing E and N, like, do we have full peak engagement? Anthony Pusick?
Don Hahn
You know what? I hate to say this. I think you're doubting his professionalism. That's the part that I don't like, is you're. And by the way, can you really trust a guy who goes, I don't really like cupcakes? Who doesn't like cupcakes? I'm right there with you, Ty.
Peter Rosenberg
See?
Don Hahn
What does that mean? You don't like cupcakes? I'll wipe the icing off and just eat the cupcake as is. You don't like icing?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I'm not.
Don Hahn
What about regular cake? Regular cake?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm doing the same thing.
Don Hahn
Did you get one of these?
Peter Rosenberg
Nope.
Don Hahn
All right, good. I'm just glad we didn't waste one on you. Wipe off the icing. By the way, what kind of farm were you freaks raised on don't like cupcakes? Anthony, are you with me on this at least?
Peter Rosenberg
As you saw, I ate a cupcake and the banana pudding.
Don Hahn
Wait, and neither of you had the banana pudding? I mean, I guess Ty is preparing for his decathlon. Dan and Dave over here can't eat anything but Jacob. What's your excuse? Well, I already. You didn't have banana pudding? No, I didn't. But that's the best banana pudding I've ever had, though, so. And yet you opted against. Well, I'm in. I'm a hate studio.
Peter Rosenberg
I think you're questioning his profession.
Don Hahn
You couldn't say, anthony, bring me a plate. Do you want me to bring you some during the break?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
Why not?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
So I will lift my ass in there.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh no, no. Matter of fact, Conor. Whenever Conor gets a chance. Hang on. I think he actually his name is.
Don Hahn
Colin and he's not here.
Peter Rosenberg
He read the email from Good Karma that said, when we get to the new studio, food is not allowed.
Don Hahn
Oh professional, professional.
Peter Rosenberg
There we go.
Don Hahn

Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I didn't listen to anything you just said. Catch the show on demand whenever you want. Just subscribe to us wherever you get your podcasts. But are you that somebody?
Peter Rosenberg
I got that shirt. So that's why you're playing it.
Don Hahn
See?
Peter Rosenberg
See, her birthday was yesterday too, by the way. Oh yeah.
Don Hahn
Damn. I didn't say happy birthday.
Peter Rosenberg
The anniversary of her death is coming up. August 21st. It's.
Don Hahn
It's the end of the summer. I know that.
Peter Rosenberg
I remember when I was 22nd. I want to say it was like.
Don Hahn
22Nd, 23rd, I think it's definitely. All I know is it's end of summer. Remember it well, that was a bad one.
Peter Rosenberg
Tough. The story, everything about the story is depressing. Super shooting a video and I had.
Don Hahn
An opportunity to meet her that summer and skipped it.
Peter Rosenberg
And you got to live with that for the rest of your lives. Your life and lives.
Don Hahn
Both of our lives.
Peter Rosenberg
Why do we do that? Every time someone dies, we come up with a story. Like we personalize the story.
Don Hahn
It's a natural, natural thing to do.
Peter Rosenberg
We make it something about us. Well, how.
Don Hahn
But see, people overrate that being, like, a selfish thought.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, how do you feel about, like, posting pictures, like, when someone dies?
Don Hahn
So now that. See, this is. That is complex. The posting pictures with the dead is a bizarre thing that has happened. And I'm not dissing anyone because I'm sure I've done it at some point and I know people that I love who do it. Like. But, like, I don't get. It's. It's weird. Like, it is a we. We. Like, it's some black mirror. That is some straight up black mirror stuff that when people hear about a celebrity dying, they're going on their hard drive and searching through every picture to see if they have one with them. And if you have a bunch of them and you can prove that you really knew the person. Now listen, if a person dies, God forbid, on a Tuesday, and you really cared for that person and actually, I guess if you really cared for the person, it's kind of off the table either way. Like, you knew the person, you had love for them for real, then wanting to share your grief and celebration of that person makes sense. But if it was just like a celebrity who you met once or twice, and you feel the need to run and post that picture at that moment, it's truly some black mirror. We have lost, like, sight of what.
Peter Rosenberg
Things are, I think validation.
Don Hahn
That's called everything on Lan Majin.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what it is, everything.
Don Hahn
Because you're then going in, you're going back and looking and seeing people liking the photo. Like, how many people liked my photo that I had with so and so about you.
Peter Rosenberg
Which another thing I don't like. Now that we're on the conversation of death, I don't need pictures of caskets like, at the funeral. Let's stop doing that.
Don Hahn
Who does that?
Peter Rosenberg
There are people who do that. Yeah, there's a lot of people that do that at a funeral, man. They're posting a picture, like, of the casket on Instagram.
Don Hahn
Yo. I.
Peter Rosenberg
It's the weirdest thing. I. I can't imagine being at a funeral and thinking, like, this is what I'm gonna do.
Don Hahn
No, it's the craziest. I get it. If, like, later in the day on your story, you post like, the program or something, like you celebrated them. And here's the program from the funeral so people see it.
Peter Rosenberg
That is gravesite.
Don Hahn
That's. I have no words. People are out of their gourd.
Peter Rosenberg
So this. There's like, videos going viral online of.
Don Hahn
It was a couple weeks Ago of.
Peter Rosenberg
This guy was in basketball shorts, like.
Don Hahn
Laying in the casket. And he has friends and family. Well, he didn't have. But I guess one of his wishes was to be sprayed with champagne bottles like they won a championship game.
Peter Rosenberg
This was probably one of the most bizarre things. And it goes to your point that.
Don Hahn
People do anything to go viral, just even in death? Yeah. I really don't understand. Even in death. He was like, I still want to go viral, though. Guys, we are living in the matrix. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
We saw people celebrating the Diddy verdict with baby oil outside the courthouse.
Don Hahn
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
And now he's like, you know what? MSG, here we come.
Don Hahn
So that's what they're saying about to have that concert. I don't see it happening.
Peter Rosenberg
Why not?
Don Hahn
I don't know. You think MSG is. You think msg. I guess they'll give anyone the building if you ask for it, right?
Peter Rosenberg
You saw what happened last year.
Don Hahn
If you pay. What are you referring to?
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, we already got criticized for it. Let's not. Let's not go down that route.
Don Hahn
No, I'm kidding. Keishian isn't here, but he considered coming for that event. All right, let's. Let's. Lonnie's been on hold for a while. Lonnie? Who's lying? Ty.
Ty Butler
What'S going on? Guys, shout out to the company. Of course, as always, Peter. Peter, I don't understand, man. And first of all, Todd, let me get to you. Let me start off with you.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait.
Don Hahn
I didn't do anything to catch it.
Ty Butler
You. You. You. You didn't do anything. But, Ty, you gotta stop with the dry snitching, bro. There's a lot of things being known because of you. Like, last week, we knew what Bart was eating because you like distinctly down to a tea, hot sauce and all. Then now you're over here telling about. Now he. From what we been told today, you're not supposed to have food in the building now. So things like that, you gotta like.
Don Hahn
Yeah, the dry sensation is great. Lonnie, you're not wrong.
Ty Butler
Brooklyn, bro, you gotta chill out on.
Don Hahn
He sounds nuts, bro.
Ty Butler
If they throw some water on you when you walk in the building, you might catch in the flames. Now, Peter, you want to give me a. A booty backhand comment and say, oh, he's a nice guy.
Don Hahn
True.
Ty Butler
You know, I get you. I get you baby gifts, diapers, get you custom, baby.
Don Hahn
That was honestly amazing. I was a beautiful. You're. You're a very sweet and thoughtful man.
Ty Butler
I mean, and the reason Why I personally get close when I talk to either one of you. Me, personally, I would love to hug all of you for everything that you do for us. Very sweet, Friday. But personally, why I get closer because I don't necessarily talk that loud, nor do I want to. And every time I talk to one of y', all, it's not about sports, because I listen to y' all every day. I don't need to ask you anything about sports.
Don Hahn
Facts.
Ty Butler
It's usually because I'm asking you something personal, and I'd rather not have that information out there.
Don Hahn
Facts.
Ty Butler
That's fair.
Don Hahn
That's fair.
Ty Butler
That's. That's why I get close. And me, personally, I know my breath don't smell, so I don't know what the hell I was all about.
Don Hahn
Well, no, no. Ty threw in that is extra sauce. He went. He went. Oh, you could smell his breath. And I gave him a look. You could. I gave him a look like, nah, bruh. Nah, bruh.
Ty Butler
I think. I think what he meant is, like, if he's that close so you can smell it.
Don Hahn
That's exactly what. That's exactly.
Ty Butler
I. I know my joint don't be humming. And as you can see, I like to make sure. I like to make sure I show up to these events, dress nice so I'm dancing. That's when. About time. I have my breath smelling and all of that.
Don Hahn
Hell, no.
Ty Butler
Again, I just. I wasn't calling in to defend myself. I was just calling in to let y' all know why I personally get close.
Don Hahn
So, by the way, so. So in all fairness. In all fairness, then you don't disagree with me? You acknowledge you are a bit of a.
Ty Butler
No, no, no, no. Oh, no. Yeah. Again, I get close because I don't want people in the conversation. I. I usually ask you about your family, the kids.
Don Hahn
True.
Ty Butler
I don't know, Lonnie.
Peter Rosenberg
Personally, I think you need to get a little closer. That's what I.
Ty Butler
No, no, no, no, no, no. Not at all. I think the reason why I put. And the reason why I put my hand on your shoulder, Peter, is because, you know, I tend to do that to show the people. Sorry.
Don Hahn
Oh, you went.
Peter Rosenberg
He went there. You went there. Dropped the flex bomb on him.
Don Hahn
By the way, he really. He did give some very thoughtful gifts for the baby. I was touched by that. It was very nice and touched because he touches me every time he sees me.
Peter Rosenberg
And then for you to just disparage his name on the air like that.
Don Hahn
I didn't do that. I didn't do that. I simply pointed out that he's a bit of a close talker and he did not deny that.
Peter Rosenberg
But he gave you the reason, so there's some context behind it. It's all good.
Don Hahn
It doesn't necessarily help in the moment, you know what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
And now, you know, going forward.
Don Hahn
But does that mean that if we're having a casual conversation, he'll allow a little more space?
Peter Rosenberg
But he's just saying he's not there for casual conversation.
Don Hahn
So if he's just like, hey, man, what's up?
Ty Butler
You good?
Don Hahn
Like. Cause the truth is you don't have to get close to someone, be like, yo, how's your family?
Peter Rosenberg
But see the a, what's up, man? You good? Is why he's grilling you the way that he is. Like you said, like once you see him, first time you see him, he's grilling you. That's his asking of yo, you good. That's what you said.
Don Hahn
I guess you're right. He does do the grip. Yeah, maybe. You know what? It's all coming together. You know someone who we haven't spoken to in a while. Let's say hello to Spike and St. Pete. Spike.
Ty Butler
Hey, boys. I called for a couple of reasons. I think I'm a numerologist. And Peter, happy birthday. And I called to wish Anthony a happy birthday. It's the program. Yeah, he. I spoke to him.
Don Hahn
Okay, good. Okay, good.
Ty Butler
I think you and Ty together are my age. You're what, 46, Peter?
Don Hahn
I'm 46 now. Yeah.
Ty Butler
How old are you, Ty?
Peter Rosenberg
32.
Ty Butler
Okay. I just turned 79. So you're still beating both of us. Yeah, well, I'm one year ahead. That don't mean much. You get older. But the one thing about Ty Butler, you know how big a fan I am, he's pragmatic, he's pious and he's thoughtful. And his career, like your career, is skyrocketing in many venues. And I'll tell you another thing I noticed. I didn't know he was on sny and I looked through some stuff and he's a good looking guy, man. I'm telling you, it's. It's all in front of you. And Peter, you already made, made your mark. And I'll leave you with this because it's, it's very interesting with, with the sports talk. I'm a basketball guy and I watch a little bit of baseball. It's tough for me to watch baseball growing up the way I watched it. And I don't know how it work out with these robotic umpires. But I had a little granddaughter just born two weeks ago. So Maya has a little. Little playmate. Yeah. Named Leighton Jane. That was my little lj. Unfortunately, I couldn't go up and visit it because my health's pretty bad right now. But we'll figure that out next week. But my point is, you guys together, so you're seven. You were 41, 32 and 46. So you're 78. You guys together got making magic. And I'm not blowing smoke up your rear ends because I know you're both. And it's different. This is a different show. This is not sports. This is people talk. So you could be on a soap opera and you could be on a late night show where one of the guys just got booted off. And I know you tried that. Peter, I don't know what happened. You never explained what happened on that late night show. You around, which I really enjoyed because I like you.
Don Hahn
Thank you.
Ty Butler
Whatever happened, did it just not get numbers or what?
Don Hahn
Yeah, it didn't. It they. Format wise, we really tried to make it like a long form kind of show. And that. That's not really where the Internet was going in that for that kind of.
Peter Rosenberg
Show was this complex.
Don Hahn
Yeah. So we did like. We did multiple segments, but it was all one long thing, which isn't something that's really done online. Usually it's either one long interview or.
Ty Butler
No. People don't have patience. But I recollect you saying this is what you wanted to do. Besides the music and the wrestling and all the other things you're an expert at so called. You said this is what I wanted to do. I wanted to do a talk. And it resonated in my mind. And I've kept it that way. And I don't know if it'll ever reappear because unfortunately, I'm on the 19th old. You kids are in the middle of your life. The attention span. I see with my own four. My own four. My oldest daughter wrote a book and it's been published and she's 49 years old. And the attention span. Tell me a little bit about it while you can read it. Click on this. Here's the link.
Don Hahn
No, you're not wrong, Spike. That part is challenging. But I am glad that you have found this version of the show different. This is why I love the Summertime, because you get a chance to try out some different, different stuff. And listen, I'll be totally frank with everyone because everyone already knows this about me. I don't see sports talk the way everyone else here or everywhere or anywhere else really sees it. Like, I don't see sports talk as the default. And I just, one of the things I enjoy about Ty is that he enjoy you at least seem to enjoy rolling with the flow. I don't think the default position on sports talk radio has to be serious. Like to me, that's always the default position that, as we were taught it is like, what's the serious angle today? What is what's happening in the news? I'm like, we, we are no different than Entertainment Tonight. Like, we're talking about. Like, everyone tells me, like, wrestling's fake. It's all fake. As I've said many times, if the Yankees beat the Red Sox, we don't invade Massachusetts. Okay? It's all just pretend fun. Basically. Grown children take a stick and smack something and everyone talks about.
Peter Rosenberg
A couple of years ago, Dodgers fans were literally invading Yankee state, by the way, I remember that story.
Don Hahn
And then they really took it to the next level in the World Series and just celebrated on your field. It was completely disrespectful. But I do, I really do enjoy like leading with fun and letting the sports kind of organically show up when they show up.

Peter Rosenberg
Not a great look for us.
Don Hahn
That would be entertaining though. All right, I want to hit every. I want to hit every caller here, so I better be start with Richard first because.
Ty Butler
Peter Tighe, who's that lady? Isley brothers. October of 73 and that's when the Mets, when the Oakland A's were in the World Series. That was the number one song at that time. Great song. That is a great song. Great, great.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. I love the noise that Richard picks when he first gets on.
Don Hahn
No one better. He's got the best noise.
Ty Butler
See you guys. One of my favorite of all time songs. Isley Brothers. Who's that? Okay. Did you see Bednar yesterday? He looks like Goose Gossage.
Peter Rosenberg
You loved it.
Ty Butler
I couldn't believe Boone. I've been telling you guys for years, leave the pitcher in if he pitches a good eighth inning. There's no rule that says a closer has to go one inning. The guy threw 42 pitch. You're never going to see that again. Boone went up to him on the mound in the ninth, looked at him in the eyes. That was old time baseball. That was Billy Martin baseball. That was what they did, Peter. That's what they did. Ty, in the old days, games were played from the heart. That was wonderful. And then look across the way at the Met game. Did you see the fans give that guy, Gavin Williams a standing ovation? He threw 126 pitches. Jesus, that was unbelievable. I was rooting for him. 126 pitches and he was still going. But of course he didn't get it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo, Richard, can I say something real quick? I know you got your long list of things. Yo, you had a, you had a great take on Barton Carlin earlier.
Don Hahn
About what?
Peter Rosenberg
So because pitchers don't throw as many innings anymore, he said, yeah, on a complete game.
Ty Butler
I said, you know what, Ty? I grew up with sport baseball statistics. We knew the number of shutouts to complete games. Okay, you can't have complete games anymore. Let's make it seven. An incomplete game. So we know at the end of the season, max freed through 13 complete games, seven inning games. That's great. That and the other fact, instead of five innings for a winning pitcher, let him pitch four innings yesterday. Tie. Ohtani pitched four great innings, eight strikeouts. He left with the lead. Of course they lost the game, but he should have gotten the Win if they won the game. He pitched great. Four innings, one run. Let's short and it's a four innings now, you know, you got to make the statistics still mean something. That's what the fans love. They don't want to see a cy young winner nine and 16, when he could have won another six or seven games because he didn't pitch enough innings or whatever. He didn't pitch the fifth inning if he pitched four pure good innings. Give him the win if he deserves it. So I say they change it to four innings and complete games at the end of the year. Peter, we love to see how many complete games we love.
Don Hahn
But baseball ends up ruining the numbers, and I had to hang up on them or we wouldn't get to anyone. Chauncey, what's going on?
Ty Butler
Hey, what's up, guys? So I just. Just to start off, Ty, you're kind of like the current situation with John. With John Carlos stand on the Yankees stand of the station. Like you're elite and we need you in there full time. We just don't got a. There's just not a spot at the moment. You know what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
Argue there were slots, but, you know.
Don Hahn
By the way, you could argue there are people here who lobbied for him to get a slot. But that's neither him which the days.
Ty Butler
The day is coming. No doubt the day is coming. But also, Peter, underrated move by you yesterday. Yesterday I defended the interns yesterday. They. They couldn't breathe the same air as you. Why they get airtime today. Use them as chess pieces as a part of your scheme to, you know, celebrate Anthony's birthday, to patch up your mistake. That's an underrated, weaselly move.
Don Hahn
I will go to my deathbed saying that today's performance by the interns legitimized everything I said yesterday. And Ty won't tell you the truth because he wants to make good radio off the air. I said, my man, are you not surprised that all these interns just walked out after I asked them to say? He was like, I won't lie. That's. That's crazy. He. I'm sorry, I have to air you out. He said, it's crazy.
Peter Rosenberg
Joe. Chauncey walking out when we. When he offered to, like, help celebrate Anthony's birthday is wild. That part is wild.
Don Hahn
It helped my take age.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I don't. I don't. I'm not defending, like, his commentary yesterday because I thought it was, as you said, Weasley, sleazy. He sounded, like, privileged.
Don Hahn
And it's the Opposite, but it's the opposite of that. But keep going.
Peter Rosenberg
But go ahead, Chauncey.
Ty Butler
Well, I agree. If they agreed to stay and they walked out in that, that is, that is messed up. But maybe they're doing it as revenge from yesterday.
Don Hahn
I don't know.
Ty Butler
I can't speak for them. But next, my point on the jets is they. Why did they or Ty. It's more of a Jets fan question for you. Why is it that you don't expect seven or more wins when they had back to back seasons of seven wins with historically bad quarterback play and apparently a worse coach?
Don Hahn
Last year wasn't historically bad last year. I got bad news for you.
Ty Butler
No, no, not last year. Oh, the two, the two, the two years with Wilson and Salah. Bad quarterback and bad coach. So if you're saying you. They can't get to seven wins, you're different, man.
Peter Rosenberg
They're playing, they're playing the NFC north this year. That's a different schedule.
Don Hahn
Yeah. And there's no, there's gonna be a lot of tough outs there. Let's go to Jose in Brooklyn. What's up, Jose?
Ty Butler
Good afternoon, Ty, Peter, shout out to the company. And I definitely got a good kick out of the conversation. You guys were going back and forth with the, with the bad guy stuff. Hilarious. But I wanted to bring up, you know, Ty's hall pass. Did I hear a sharpie? Was like. Was my hearing correct on that?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ty Butler
Oh, wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you got a hall pass?
Ty Butler
Me, Do I have a hall pass?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm talking, I'm talking to Rosenberg.
Ty Butler
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I think my past life has precluded me. I don't think I get a hall.
Peter Rosenberg
Ashanti's one of them One Jacob, you know, that's one of them ones.
Don Hahn
A lot of people would know.
Ty Butler
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Honestly, it was just the sideburns that always threw me off.
Peter Rosenberg
Ashanti in her prime, man. Now I was hating a little bit when now they got back with her, I'm like, come on, man. At a versus.
Ty Butler
Oh, that was crazy.
Don Hahn
That's super crazy.
Ty Butler
Yeah, it happens. But I wanted to talk about the jets also. I don't think I'm kind of looking at this as not going to be a nightmare, nightmare situation if we win seven to eight games. I think that's kind of, you know, where, where this team's roster is at. But we'll see. But we will see. I do think that this team, even though it doesn't look like it, even though it doesn't have all the hype, I still think that this team is still very talented and could possibly, you know, surprise a couple teams, which is what I'm hoping for. But wanted to thank that up and keep getting the muscles up, Ty, because I see you getting to that Nelly status, man. Have a good one, man.
Don Hahn
He could be the next Nelly. We will. We will see. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, but I just want to know it's good.
