Between you, your friends and your family.

This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. That sounds like heaven to me. Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
Peter Rosenberg
Yo, it's our number three of dhr, Ty Butler, Peter Rosenberg. We're in Florida today. Sunny Florida just happened by coincidence, but we're here getting it popping with you. 800-919-3776. Talking to y' all HR on ESPN at Rosenberg Radio. Ty D. Butler, the phone lines are filled, but before we get to the phone calls, want to get into some. Let's do a little potpourri. How about this? We started talking about the Yankees last segment. I am not at all confident in this. Stanton move to the outfield being something that they can sustain. Like it's sounds great because you don't want to lose his bat with Judge coming back as a dh, but I just don't think it has a long shelf life. The Yankees, of course, back in action tonight against the Houston Astros. I just don't look at this situation as one that's going to, you know.
Ty Butler
Old Timers Day tomorrow.
Peter Rosenberg
Old Timers Day. No Derek Jeter, no Jeets. No Jeets.
Ty Butler
Why not?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, he says his daughter's birthday party, you know, gotten in the way, but do a little quick research.
Ty Butler
Uh huh.
Peter Rosenberg
Daughter's birthday is not till next weekend.
Ty Butler
Well, he decided to have the party on.
Peter Rosenberg
Decided to have it. And they're celebrating the 25 year anniversary of them beating the Mets in the World Series. Your boy Paul o' Neal is going to be out there.
Ty Butler
Hey, it's me, Paulio. Just excited to be there. Polio. Polio. String cheese. That's what they call me now.
Peter Rosenberg
Another station here in New York came down hard on Jeter for not that's any old time.
Ty Butler
I wonder what station that was.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you feel the same way? Like you take exception to it at all? You feel like he's being an elitist or is it not all that big deal?
Ty Butler
Give me a break, losers. The man, by the way, Derek Jeter is what, 54 or something? 57 ways.
Peter Rosenberg
57.
Ty Butler
Hey Siri, how old is Derek Jeter.
Anthony Pusey
He'll be 53 next Saturday.
Peter Rosenberg
Derek Jeter is 51 years old.
Ty Butler
You're close.
Peter Rosenberg
Just turned 51.
Ty Butler
He's 51.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you wish Derek Jeter a happy birthday?
Ty Butler
I did not. That's a great point. Derek Jeter is 51. He's going to have a lot of old timers days. He's got young kids.
Peter Rosenberg
I hope so.
Ty Butler
I certainly do. And he's no longer with another team. I think he's done doing that. He's got young kids. We know that. Leave the guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Old timers days. Whenever you're celebrating the anniversary of a.
Ty Butler
Champion, bro, it's the Yankees. Every year they're celebrating the anniversary of a championship.
Peter Rosenberg
Hold up now he's. He was.
Ty Butler
Last year was 15 since 09. In a few years it'll be 20 since 09.
Peter Rosenberg
So you're saying Yankee fans are spoiled. Brad, since we should approach.
Ty Butler
I'm just saying he has. Jeter has an anniversary every frigging three years.
Peter Rosenberg
Which. Which sounds great until you realize the Lone World Series MVP was that championship against the Mets in 2000. He was a pretty big part of it.
Ty Butler
How was he a big part of 01?
Peter Rosenberg
They lost in 01.
Ty Butler
What about 02?
Peter Rosenberg
They didn't make the World Series in 02.
Ty Butler
What about 03?
Peter Rosenberg
03? They made the World Series and lost.
Ty Butler
So there's not a celebration for a while is what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
04. Are we going to celebrate 04 when they blew that three? Nothing leading the championship series.
Ty Butler
By the way, that'll be an interesting anniversary when they do 25 years since the worst defeat in the history of sports.
Peter Rosenberg
So you don't really feel away about it.
Ty Butler
So this is the last one to get to celebrate from the core four. I guess that one for 25, but then there's 30. In fact, they're going to roll into 30 any. Any day.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but World Series MVP Old Timers Day. They're actually. And so my, my theory was he doesn't. He has said for a while he does not have any hope or any like interest in playing in the game.
Ty Butler
Is it. Is it. Sorry, is it 96? 98, 99? 2000?
Peter Rosenberg
96, 98, 99, 2000.
Ty Butler
So hold on. So real quick, isn't the 30th of 96 two years from now? Like what are we really. This is ridiculous. This is a nothing. Anthony, am I wrong here? Am I getting this wrong?
Anthony Pusey
I'm not upset about it.
Peter Rosenberg
2000 means something.
Ty Butler
It does. But there's so many with that team.
Peter Rosenberg
But 2000 means something because he's the face of it. He was the mvp.
Ty Butler
He doesn't care about the mvp.
Peter Rosenberg
That's not who he is against the mats.
Anthony Pusey
Look, they also used to play an actual game. Now they're going to play softball, right? This isn't a thing.
Ty Butler
It's not even a real thing.
Anthony Pusey
I give credit to the Yankees and anybody that's going to be there. I used to go with my dad all the time. It's not. I've gone where they haven't played the game. It's not the same.
Peter Rosenberg
Let me ask you. And they're playing the game now. So. Anthony, a softball game?
Anthony Pusey
I don't think they're even playing a real game. I think it's a softball game.
Peter Rosenberg
Is it a softball game?
Anthony Pusey
I'm 96% confident that it's softball.
Ty Butler
That has to be 96%. A high percentage for Anthony Pusey.
Peter Rosenberg
And how do we get to 96?
Ty Butler
It's the first year of the Core Fours championship run.
Peter Rosenberg
But here, my theory was because they're bringing back the game, and he has no interest in playing in the game. He doesn't want to be the only guy. That's just like, I'm a lot of.
Ty Butler
This on the table.
Peter Rosenberg
So that's what I thought.
Ty Butler
Probably I was on the table.
Anthony Pusey
I take it back. Brian Hoak has a story, says it was a traditional game. I know they were talking about playing a softball game, thinking that that would get everybody involved. For people like Jeter who didn't want to participate.
Peter Rosenberg
Any merit to that? Anthony, he doesn't want to play in the game. So how foolish would it look if he's the only guy that's like, I'm above all of this.
Ty Butler
I think it doesn't want to look that way.
Anthony Pusey
I think it's a. I would say this whether he's thinking about it or not. I don't think it's a good look if you go and don't play.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, exactly. So. So I rather not show up.
Anthony Pusey
Is it convenient that, like, you know, I could schedule a birthday party around the time such that if there is a game, which there they have this year, that I won't look like I'm. I don't want to be a part of it.
Peter Rosenberg
You think he waited until, like, the date came out? It's like, this is a good time to schedule a birthday party. Could have. Oh, man. That's like Hannah.
Anthony Pusey
But by the way, I don't. I don't think that that's I really don't think that's a bad thing.
Ty Butler
Yeah, it's fine.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't. God, there are a lot of Yankees.
Anthony Pusey
He was just there last year.
Ty Butler
They were. People were really upset about.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait. I was driving in listening to the case show shout out to him back from his only four day. Some of us take a month, you know.
Ty Butler
You know. You guys don't remember these old drug commercials they used to have back in the day. I learned it from watching you. That's how. That's me in Vacation with Mike.
Peter Rosenberg
There was a guy and I'm not making this up. Ant you were listening to the show. He was emphatic about how done he is with Derek Jeter because he's not attending Old Timers Day tomorrow. If you playing this up for radio, that dude was like legitimately aggie.
Anthony Pusey
If you bought it, if you bought a ticket expecting to see Derek Jeter, I get it. I understand.
Ty Butler
But you're also dumb. If you're. If you're that big a Jeter fan, you should have known there's a chance he's not showing up. Am I wrong?
Anthony Pusey
There were a couple of events that old that. That former Yankees went back to, especially when it was part of the Marlins, that he didn't go. He gave a little video. So this is not uncommon. And I don't. It doesn't change my opinion of Derek Jeter, to be honest with you.
Peter Rosenberg
But didn't. Wasn't the reason back then. He thought it was poor form.
Anthony Pusey
Yes. To be now it's. Now it's another reason.
Peter Rosenberg
So he's just. I mean he's been back twice. Right. Like the hall of Fame.
Anthony Pusey
And he was there last year, wasn't he?
Ty Butler
Yeah, he was there last year, I think. But listen, Jeter is not the most nostalgic legend of all time. We know that. Okay. He's not Mr. Warm and Fuzzy.
Anthony Pusey
He introduced Cece at the hall of Fame. It's not like he's got bad blood.
Ty Butler
With the Yankees, but. Exactly. But it's not.
Peter Rosenberg
He's this guy. Like they're. They're mad cool.
Ty Butler
But it's not like he's disconnected completely either. People are just. People really got like bent out of shape and were screaming about this.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. A lot of people who are upset and at the other station, dude called him out, said he's an elitist. And Jeter actually fired back at the.
Ty Butler
Guy who was just tell me I'm not like these people. Who was the guy? You know me. I call out everybody.
Peter Rosenberg
Boomer Esiason it was Boomer. Yeah.
Ty Butler
Boomer is maybe the most holier than thou person in this market. And that's saying a lot in this market.
Peter Rosenberg
And Jeter's like, yo, all you had to do was text me and find out why I'm not coming. It's not that hard. And I think he walked it back.
Ty Butler
Damn, he walked it back.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ty Butler
By the way. So Boomer stepped out, insulted Jeter for no reason. And all Jeter did was put over Boomer by making him look good and say, you could have just texted me.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I've got a birthday party for my daughter.
Ty Butler
No, but even just saying to Boomer on a text basis, he responded by making him look good.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ty Butler
That's a really nice response by Jeets.
Peter Rosenberg
So you're not one of these guys who thinks that we have to say the other station? It's like sacrilege.
Ty Butler
No, I'm aware of what the fan is. It's a pretty popular New York thing. And Boomer Assassins a well known figure, and I've called him out a million times. I think he's a nozzle.
Peter Rosenberg
So executives actually think that if you utter like the acronym no here, it's.
Ty Butler
Never been a big deal. I've never. At this station, I've never had anyone say like, oh, we don't like to.
Peter Rosenberg
Say that, but, like, gonna send people over there.
Ty Butler
Yeah, that's like the old school philosophy of radio. I think it's silly. I think whatever makes the best content.
Peter Rosenberg
You should do.
Ty Butler
So. I don't, I don't. But, like, I just. I don't know why it sometimes feels like people like Boomer and others in this market are, like, playing a stereotype. Like, you really have to be the like. Come on, Cheetah. You got it.
Dave
You.
Ty Butler
What are you doing? Do you love the team or not? Like, and you really care? It's Old Timers Day. Yeah, I just don't. And by the way, I don't even. I don't think about Old Timers day being for 51 year olds. To me, old timers. And I could be wrong because.
Peter Rosenberg
But I think that the most important piece of this is that they're honoring a championship team that he was a part of the face of. But again, and by the way, I agree with you.
Ty Butler
How many more times are they going to honor Tibbs, though, that he was on? If he skips all of them? Let's talk.
Peter Rosenberg
So here's another element. There were people thinking that maybe this is like him. I think Allen might have said this like, he might be protesting cashmere because we know they don't have the best relationship.
Ty Butler
That's equally stupid on the other side.
Peter Rosenberg
So you're calling Alan stupid?
Ty Butler
No, I'm saying it's a stupid. That is an unrealistic. Protesting cashmen.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, he's just like, I'm not. I don't approve of what's going on.
Ty Butler
No, that. That. I'll tell you one thing. Derek Jeter does not care that much about what's going on.
Peter Rosenberg
He was on national television.
Ty Butler
Well, that's his job, because they pay him handsomely to do so. But, like, do you really think. If you guys really think Derek Jeter or a rod is losing sleep about what the Yankees are doing on a given season, I have a bridge to sell you.
Peter Rosenberg
I think they are.
Ty Butler
No, they are not.
Peter Rosenberg
I think they are living and dying with every pitch.
Ty Butler
Yeah. I'll tell you what. Alex Rodriguez is living and dying with the play of one team, the Minnesota Wolves.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that is it. Which also kind of looks phony. He's gotta look like he knows when to celebrate. And I know this is, like, nitpicky sometimes. He's. He's like, sitting courtside and he's celebrating first quarter, Anthony Edwards, three pointer. And it's like, bro, come on, we've got three quarters left.
Ty Butler
Calm down.
Peter Rosenberg
I get. He's excited as an owner, you know, but even.
Ty Butler
Even so that these got very few of them, truly. I think cece cares about the Yankees. I think cece cares about how they're playing. He has relationships with the players who are on the team. Like, him and Judge are still close. Like, I think it's a different kind of thing for cc.
Peter Rosenberg
It wasn't a rod. Like, I could. I could totally be making this up. But wasn't he Anthony brought into spring training as, like, an assistant, a specialist?
Ty Butler
At some point he was. Yeah. That's not the same, though.
Peter Rosenberg
I think he cares deeply.
Ty Butler
Deeply. That's a bit of a reach. All right, let's go to the phones, talk to the people, shall we? Man, every. Everything's. Every line is full. We have.
Peter Rosenberg
It's diversity.
Ty Butler
Yeah. True diversity here. Let's start. Let's start. Since we're talking Yankees right this second, let's start with Mike in Queens, who wants to talk about the boonies we just heard.
Peter Rosenberg
Yikes.
Ty Butler
Hey, Mike.
Dave
Hey. What's going on? Hey. Very good timing. So I just left work, and my wife and daughter are away in Florida for my daughter's dance stuff, and she knows I was going to The Old Timers game tomorrow with my dad. I got on the phone with her, and I said, because I talked to a buddy I'm gonna meet, and she said, I think Old Timers days tonight. I was like, no, that's tomorrow. She was like, who are you going with tonight? And I feel like I had the same boonies answer.
Ty Butler
What?
Dave
I just. It was. The timing was perfect. That's all. That's it. I love you guys. You guys do a great job. That's it.
Ty Butler
Yeah. He.
Peter Rosenberg
He.
Ty Butler
Look, He's. He's.
Peter Rosenberg
I think that's a drop that has to stay on the show.
Ty Butler
Oh, I know that. That line. I think that's gonna. I think that'll last till Don and Alan are back. That's.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a real use that in different situations.
Ty Butler
Joe and Chappaqua wants to shed some light. I probably on the Dave Rothenberg conversation. Hey, Joe.
Dave
Hey, guys. Thanks for taking the call. So, yeah, you were talking with Rothenberg earlier about his kids and their athletic ability. I did read somewhere that that comes from the mother, so that does explain a lot.
Ty Butler
Well, listen, I don't know if that's true in every case. You know, Shador Sanders might want a word, but in this case, I know it's true because, guys, the fact that he has a son who's going to play college baseball. Have you seen Dave Rothenberg swing a bat?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's awful.
Ty Butler
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, he's not as bad as Ray. My man Ray Santiago.
Ty Butler
Well, no one's that bad. Respectfully, Ray is the worst.
Peter Rosenberg
But that was like. That was like a level of bad we've never seen before.
Ty Butler
No, no, it was. And listen, I say that as someone who embarrassingly grounds out in Don softball.
Peter Rosenberg
Game every year, but at least you're making contact.
Ty Butler
But no, it's the first pitch I just ground out every time. Watching this man swing and miss in softball repeatedly is very challenging.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's my question for Ray, and I love Ray, which is. It's weird. Every time you feel like you're, like, almost offending someone, you got to throw in that you love them.
Ty Butler
Oh, yeah. I knew where we were going.
Peter Rosenberg
Did Ray know that he was that bad prior to agreeing to play in the softball game?
Ty Butler
It's a great question. I think so, though, because he played in it multiple times, so why would.
Peter Rosenberg
You not just, you know, I'm gonna sit this one out, y'. All. They pull a Derek Jeter plan a birthday that weekend, just don't show up.
Ty Butler
I couldn't agree with you. Anymore. He should have recognized the situation. He absolutely should not have shown up and swung the bat.
Peter Rosenberg
You can't.
Ty Butler
By the way, I think Dave can't throw a football very well either. Although we had an athletic competition though. You remember a few years ago we went. We went head to head in a bunch of sports.
Peter Rosenberg
Who won that? I don't remember.
Ty Butler
Oh, it was me.
Peter Rosenberg
You won that. Now, DPA, RJ's pretty good at athleticism. DPHO, you'd say saving the show.
Ty Butler
Athleticism wise.
Peter Rosenberg
Like athletically, you know, Rick's pretty great at softball.
Ty Butler
Rick's a great athlete. I hate his guts, but he's a great athlete. If we're being honest, it's not talked about enough hosts. I'm not going to get into breaking down every producer. This show's the most athletic show.
Peter Rosenberg
So you, Alan and Don.
Ty Butler
Yeah, there's no true embarrassment in the group.
Peter Rosenberg
So Bart Carlin, I've never seen.
Ty Butler
I don't know, maybe I'm judging Carla.
Peter Rosenberg
Looks like we're judging based on.
Ty Butler
I am. Because if there was like a, you know, if there was a running, jumping, you're thinking, although, look at me this week. So who am I to talk? But. But you know, Carlin plays golf. I know that. I just don't know if he does anything else athletically.
Peter Rosenberg
And golf's not really an athlete.
Ty Butler
That doesn't mean.
Peter Rosenberg
So like some people have said, golf is not really a sport.
Ty Butler
So if we were to score it on average, for example, the morning show, I'd go ahead and give Rick a ten. Right. And I'd give Dave a three. So they end up averaging to six and a half.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ty Butler
You go to Barton Carlin, It's a similar situation. I'm going to go even lower. I'm going to go 10 for Bart again, two for Carlin. They're six now.
Peter Rosenberg
Now we get to K. K is.
Ty Butler
Just a four sitting on its own. I may tell you he did this and he did that.
Peter Rosenberg
But state.
Ty Butler
Yeah. And particularly current state. Four or five, you get to afternoons. Allen is a probably a nice eight.
Peter Rosenberg
Allen's pretty good.
Ty Butler
I think Don is probably a good seven and a half.
Peter Rosenberg
And he's doing the kick boxing.
Ty Butler
I'll put myself consistently like a nice.
Peter Rosenberg
Six, six and a half in the celebrity basketball game.
Ty Butler
And let's be honest, and on national tv, just bang, knock down a long range jumper. Who else done that on this radio station?
Peter Rosenberg
You also tried to jump up a.
Ty Butler
Few stairs and badly injured myself. That is true. But I am. Here's the Thing about me, I'm capable of playing everything. Excel. What do I excel at? I can shoot the basketball. All right. I can hit a tennis ball pretty good. I can throw the baseball. I can do it all. I'm not great at anything, but I, there's very little I will embarrass myself in and that's why I like. So the average of our show, that 8, 7, 6, 15, 21, we end up being a 7. And I think we end up winning. I really do.
Peter Rosenberg
The most athletic show on the stage.
Ty Butler
That's, that's my, that's my personal.
Peter Rosenberg
Hey, Dan Grass is at night at.
Ty Butler
7Pm I don't think Dan is going to surpass 7.
Peter Rosenberg
He's a runner though.
Ty Butler
That is not athleticism though. But it's great for your endurance.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes, but burning calories, capable of, you know, moving. Yes.
Ty Butler
Getting away from a bad guy. That's fantastic. I'm truly happy for him, but I just don't know if it's athleticism. Let's go to Cody in San Diego.
Dave
Oh, hey Cody. Thank you for picking up. Hello guys. Peter and Ty. So I've got a fraud Friday involving the Yankees and my fandom towards them. So I was born in 1991. I grew up loving baseball in a baseball home. Went to more Mets games than Yankee games. My dad was a Cubs fan. In 2001 I became a Diamondbacks fan. I was completely against the Yankees, totally against the buying of players, etc. I've subsequently become a Yankees fan maybe in about 2011, 2012. Does that make me a fraud?
Peter Rosenberg
Come on man. Wait, so you were a Diamondbacks fan in 2001 when they won the World Series.
Dave
So I, I, I hated the Yankees so much. In 2001 I became a Diamondbacks fan. Stuck with them for say 5, 6, 7 years? Ish. Continue to hate the Yankees. I actually went to numerous World Series clinching games. I was actually at the 04 game where the Red Sox blew them out in game seven or whatever. I've been through many games and I hated the Yankees, but I've come around to love them.
Ty Butler
No, this isn't even. Cody, this isn't even a conversation.
Peter Rosenberg
The story doesn't even make sense.
Ty Butler
Cody. This is not even hit the gavel.
Peter Rosenberg
Hit siren about this story makes sense. He's a Diamondbacks fan in 2001.
Ty Butler
No, because he hated the Yankees. But he hated the Yankees so much he became a Diamondbacks fan.
Peter Rosenberg
But then how do you go from hating a team to becoming a fan of that team?
Ty Butler
I don't Know, I guess it's hate.
Peter Rosenberg
Watching like you start watching them more. He's a fraud.
Ty Butler
That was a.
Peter Rosenberg
He knew and he said too, but. But then he tried to throw a little 2011. You became a Yankee fan in 2009 when they won the World Series.
Ty Butler
The whole thing is embarrassing. Jonathan in LA called us yesterday. We didn't get to him. He's very loyal. We love Jonathan in la. What's up, Jonathan in la.
Dave
Hi, guys.
Ty Butler
Hi, guys.
Dave
Peter. Good having you back, Peter. And great show, by the way. All weekend long, man. You guys done a great job. Oh, Peter, you forgot man. On your athletic resume. 247 champion, baby. That was a good day. To our truth.
Ty Butler
It's a great point. Celebrity Game Champion. A lot has happened.
Dave
And you know what, Peter? I've been. I got a question for you, Peter. Two questions. So I was watching yesterday the. The Netflix, the wwe, like behind the scenes, man. I thought it was. It was gonna be a little man. Kind of boring. It's pretty good, man.
Ty Butler
And that show is awesome.
Dave
I can't wait to. I can't wait to see the last two episodes. And also, do you get confused a lot with Sam Roberts? Because my son was like, oh, look, Peter. Like, no, it's not Peter. Do you know who I'm talking about?
Ty Butler
Oh, yeah. We're very good friends and we get confused all the time by listeners and it is like. It's super annoying. I'll tell you why. Because I'm much better looking than Sam.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, man.
Ty Butler
No, I love Sam.
Peter Rosenberg
That's how I feel about when people. People confuse me with Mikel Bridges.
Ty Butler
That you're you. That you're better. You are much better looking than me. But the thing is, I think a lot of times people don't like, like Sam. Oh, yeah, you're much better looking. I'm looking at this guy. You're much better looking. And I bet your jumper's cleaner too. Is the weirdest jumper. But thank you, Jonathan. But yeah. Oh, no, sorry, go ahead. What are you gonna say? Oh, he's got. When they. The second they hear the thank you. Not Jacob's ready to chop your.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but that's good.
Ty Butler
No, it's way. You should be. Wow. Wow. If I knew any. If I didn't know better, I would think you were calling out Johnny Culture. Because you listen in the morning and you know he leaves people. You know, he leaves that line open and you as a radio guy, you probably hear it. Yeah, that like we say goodbye to the person and you could just hear the Phone line still open. And then I'm like, thank you. Thank you, Steve. And then I'll see John, like, oh, oh. But no, I love Sam. And from. I don't mind getting confused with him in the sense that him and I both worked our tails off to make it to wwe and we got there at the same time. And he's a radio guy. I'm a radio guy. We both, I think, have great respect for what the other one does. I'm the one who told Sam, you got to shave your head because he used to have. Sam's a host on Sirius. We're also on the same channel now on Pro Wrestling Nation. Sam used to have this long, curly hair. I was the only real enough friend to say, it's time. It's time. The hairline is time. And he thanks me to this day. But then Ty, after he shaved the.
Peter Rosenberg
Head, the unintended consequence.
Ty Butler
Then he ended up adding a beard. Now we have the same silhouette from a distance. So last week on WWE tv, one of the wrestlers solo Sikoa was like, what's up, Sam? On tv?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm like, how do you react to that on television?
Ty Butler
Well, he's a heel. So I let it. Like, I just under my breath was like, no, I'm not. I looked at Biggie and I went, I'm not Sam.
Anthony Pusey
He also could kill you.
Ty Butler
Well, he could kill me, but that's neither here nor there. But. But that's the part that's frustrating because I love Sam, but, like.
Peter Rosenberg
You got to do something to shake it up.
Ty Butler
Well, I added glasses.
Peter Rosenberg
That doesn't.
Ty Butler
I added glasses to the look. You guys should get, like, jacked up so no one could ever confuse us.
Peter Rosenberg
Or do the Marcus Stroman durag.
Ty Butler
That's.
Peter Rosenberg
Imagine.
Ty Butler
You know what? That's an interesting take. Wait, you mean like when Vince McMahon and the. You've seen the ECW.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Ty Butler
You guys go Vince with the durag. Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what we gotta do. The do rag.
Ty Butler
That is a way to distinguish myself so they know Sam looks like me, but I'm the one with the do rag. I like what you've come up with. All right, we're gonna take a quick break. Will come back and talk to more of you. The phone line's been jammed and Ty, talk to me.

I disagree with your take, by the way. That. Or maybe it wasn't your take. I'm just assigning it to. You didn't like starting the album off with the emotional, you know, the mom.
Ty Butler
That wasn't my take.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that was someone else.
Ty Butler
That was Rory and Mall.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, okay.
Ty Butler
Or one of them.
Peter Rosenberg
I liked it.
Ty Butler
There was one. It was Mall.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I liked it. I don't really agree with a lot of Mall's takes.
Ty Butler
I love Maul. But I also disagree with a lot of. But that's what makes him a good. A good host. When you. When you enjoy someone but you don't agree with their takes, I think that's what makes.
Peter Rosenberg
What are his thoughts on Drake's latest IG post?
Ty Butler
I mean, he probably loves it. He loves everything.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you think he put the actual like button on the post?
Ty Butler
He has to. He loves all things that Drizzy does.
Peter Rosenberg
Can I throw some news at you real quick?
Ty Butler
You have news.
Peter Rosenberg
Sham Charania just announced the NBA Christmas Day 2025 on ABC and ESPN. And you, as I'm saying it, nailed the Knicks opponent.
Ty Butler
I did. Because that game is always a slog.
Peter Rosenberg
Last year was the Spurs, Cleveland Cavaliers at the New York Knicks.
Ty Butler
Oh, like you dream about the noon start.
Peter Rosenberg
No, it's a great game.
Ty Butler
It's a great game.
Peter Rosenberg
But also, why is it the noon start?
Ty Butler
It's always the noon.
Peter Rosenberg
Spurs, Thunder, Rockets, Lakers, Mavs, warriors and Wolves Nuggets. I feel like we get Wolves Nuggets every year, let's be honest.
Ty Butler
Because the weird thing is the Knicks always get tossed in the early one.
Peter Rosenberg
But why are they putting them in that noon spot? I always do, but they're. It's a different.
Ty Butler
It's. I don't think it's that. I think it's like an MSG thing. I seriously do. I. Maybe MSG on Christmas, they like to have their employees home or something. I don't know. But, like, it's always that slot.
Peter Rosenberg
I just don't understand.
Anthony Pusey
The only east coast game that's the.
Ty Butler
Only east coast game, only pure east.
Peter Rosenberg
Coast game is the opening night NBA Rockets at Thunder. So we get Durant going back to OKC against the defending champions. That's sexy.
Ty Butler
That actually is pretty good.
Peter Rosenberg
Then you get warriors at Lakers. Did new and improve Luka Doncic.
Ty Butler
I love how that's playing out right now. I hope he's you for Luca. Yeah, absolutely.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Ty Butler
When everyone started hating, like, there was just like, such. I hated how Reddick threw him under the bus when the season ended. Like, he really, to me, was very like, Redick has this way. And this is Duke. You know, it's Duke. Redick has this way of carrying himself. Like Aaron Glenn. Like, you don't have rings jingling and jangling in the pocket. My G. Don't talk about Luka. Needs to be in better shape. Like you had. You had a great. Compared to me. J.J. redick had a great NBA career compared to you. Compared to me, compared to Luka Doncic. You need to be quiet and be somewhere else. So, like, with the fact that, like, immediately. I get it. You can argue that the fact that Luka wasn't able to play two ways in the playoffs made them a more susceptible team. But, like, you know, he was giving them 30 a night. He's doing Luka Doncic things. How much more are you getting from.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. Something just dawned on me that I didn't quite put together two of the teams I root for. I just don't like their head coaches. Like the vibes. No I went to Knicks, Lakers, as I do every year. Maybe I shouldn't say this, but. So I'm in the press conference room, and I just didn't love Reddick's energy.
Ty Butler
How would you. It's Reddick. It's like he's got terrible energy.
Peter Rosenberg
Terrible, condescending. I'm above you.
Ty Butler
Listen.
Peter Rosenberg
If you ask him a basketball question.
Ty Butler
He talks to you like you're a mom.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Like he'll try to talk circles around you. Oh, wow.
Ty Butler
It's still hard to lift my leg up, bro.
Peter Rosenberg
You were limping around pretty much.
Ty Butler
And the crazy thing is it's actually, like, spread. So the.
Peter Rosenberg
It's contagious.
Ty Butler
Is that what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
It's the COVID vaccine.
Ty Butler
That's what it's.
Peter Rosenberg
That.
Ty Butler
That's right. That's right. No, no, it's. What did I. What. My meniscus is here.
Peter Rosenberg
But it was at the back of your knee. Remember? It started at the back of your knee, and now.
Ty Butler
I swear to God, it hurts down here in my.
Peter Rosenberg
Which define you. Bell said could happen.
Ty Butler
She's good.
Peter Rosenberg
We've had some great guests on.
Ty Butler
We really have. We've done it all. But for the record, I would just want to be clear. I was someplace recently where J.J. redick had been.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Ty Butler
And I expressed not a fan of J.J. redick to him. No, he wasn't there.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh.
Ty Butler
The other people around there who had dealt with him were like, oh, your take is dead on. But the energy he gives that. No, you're reading the. You're reading it right. Well, it's not me. Like, he has. Like he has a rest. How do I say this nicely? J.J. redick has resting bitch face all the time. That's not me misreading it. That is the. That is who he is.
Peter Rosenberg
But even the first take stuff just. I'm like, this is who the Lakers are hiring as their head coach. Like, that's the type of demeanor and attitude.
Ty Butler
Listen, they turned out to have a good year.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, they got bounced in round one with Luke and LeBron, so. Sure, I guess, comparatively to.
Ty Butler
Well, sorry. The way the season started to where it ended. They pulled it together. And I thought he was completely a wuss. I thought, you know, I said this to you. One of the main things that irritated me about the Bronnie situation was not the nepotism or whatever. I don't care particularly. It makes no difference to me. It was that they were allowing that, like, in a year when you guys should be figuring out how you're going to Win a championship you're worried about. It's nonsense. Ultimately, it's nonsense. It doesn't have to do with the team getting better. You're talking about roster spots for fan. It just all seemed like, yo, yo, bum Chuck, small time small ball. And you're the Lakers. And you had the Celtics at the time before everything the wheels fell off. You thought were chasing another championship to get further ahead of the Lakers. And I just thought the Lakers were kind of goofing around.
Peter Rosenberg
And then the Celtics also had a hornball as their head coach. But go ahead.
Ty Butler
Well, I'm not making this a franchise thing. I wasn't based this on the franchise.
Peter Rosenberg
Franchise. On franchise crime. Now, I disagreed with you, but we've had that argument.
Ty Butler
Yeah, I just thought it was yo, yo, they. But that's. That's who they are now. They. They do what LeBron feels like doing.
Peter Rosenberg
Which by the way, he might be out like this could be it. Not NBA. But from, you know, as far as.
Ty Butler
A Lakers fan, are you Sad about the LeBron era coming to an end? Are you ready to like, get to a next thing?
Peter Rosenberg
My question is that, can you win a championship if he's your second best player at that salary? And I keep landing on. I don't think so. Because as good as he is during the regular season and we can go through the numbers, come to playoffs when you're playing every other night, he just runs out of gas and he's taking possessions off defensively. And when you're already dealing with Luka not being a defensive, you know, he's not Bruce bowen. I love LeBron. I love what he brought to this organization.
Ty Butler
Can you believe it's been like seven years?
Peter Rosenberg
It's the longest he's ever been with the team, which is crazy to think about.
Ty Butler
No, no, no. That's insane. Is that true?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, because he was seven years in Cleveland and now this is going on year eight for him and with the Lakers.
Ty Butler
That stat. Guys, please tweet me and tell me if you're like seven.
Peter Rosenberg
Seven.
Ty Butler
Yeah, this going into eight.
Peter Rosenberg
This is seven. Because it's 19, 18, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24. Yeah, going into eight. I'm right. It's going into eight.
Ty Butler
If you are listening to our radio program right now, please at least tweet me and tell me if this stat just blew your mind. That blows my. Yes. Seven in Cleveland.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ty Butler
Four in Miami. Four in Cleveland. Going into eight here. So the jersey, his hall of Fame jersey still probably ends up being a cab jersey, right? He spent the most time there overall, but this is the team that he stayed straight.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's.
Ty Butler
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
It's bizarre to think about.
Ty Butler
Man, can you believe I was at that game sitting right there in the second row.
Peter Rosenberg
Which one?
Ty Butler
When Kobe went to see LeBron play against Luca, right before he died.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, with. And he got the picture with. And his daughter. You were at that game sitting right behind him. Did you get caught in any photos? Yeah, we zoom in. Oh, yeah.
Ty Butler
I have one framed in my house.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Ty Butler
Yeah, the Slam magazine photo that they took. I'm in the background, me and Dip.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you blurred out or is this.
Ty Butler
No, it's. It's pretty clear.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's. You should mention that more context.
Ty Butler
First of all, it was so incredibly depressing because, like, I was always a huge Kobe fan, which I know is a weird. People don't. Whatever. Everyone thinks I'm a fraud anyway. We all have different players that we. I like. When the Lakers are good, I go to Lakers games. When I go to la, I. Even though I love rooting against the Lakers, vis a vis the Celtics, I enjoy the Lakers because I enjoy the Celtics. Lakers. Je ne sais quoi. The whole there. To me, they're forever connected. Right. I'm fine with that. I'm fine with that. I have a. I have a. I have a Magic all star jersey. I have a. I have the gold Kobe authentic throwback. I have the Magic shooting shirt.
Peter Rosenberg
Colby. It would have made sense. Colby worked out for the Celtics pre draft.
Ty Butler
Really? Hold on. That's the.
Dave
Hold on.
Ty Butler
That wouldn't have helped me at all.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but I'm saying worked out for.
Ty Butler
The Celtics is not a thing.
Peter Rosenberg
He's got a Celtics jersey. Oh, now we're going to Magic.
Ty Butler
I got. Well, they're Mitchell and Ness. I have mad Mitchell nest stuff. Anyways, Love Kobe. In the early 2000s, he was my absolute favorite athlete to watch. Went to his last game in Boston, and when I went and saw that game, it was coincidental, obviously, that he was there. So Kobe walks in. I was in the ESPN seats. So ESPN la, our sister station in la, has like two areas of seats in that building, and they had these two seats that are like, right behind the floor. There's the front row. There's a little gap, and then there's seats. I'm in that seat right there. Kobe walks in, I'm like, oh, my God, Kobe's here. So me and Dipperstein are just watching Kobe. We ended up watching Kobe the whole game. We didn't even watch the game. We're just watching Kobe. Kobe interacted with LeBron. Kobe interacts with Doncic, Kobe and Gianna. We're just like watching them. And Dipperstein, ever the manager, is like, why don't you go talk to him? Because he's always wanted me to, like, you know, introduce myself to people. And I've interviewed Kobe before. Kobe's actually pretty aware. I thought there was a chance we might be able to have a nice chat. And I was like, ah, let me wait till I see him in a situation where I can like, properly talk to him. And it was funny. The whole day, my feeling on seeing him was he is someone who's finally at peace in his life.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, because.
Ty Butler
Because history gets rewritten. Kobe was a mess for a while, and his. His brand was a mess, but not only that, he wasn't comfortable in his own skin. He had found his way like he was a dad. He. Kobe found his way as a dad. And I was like, that's so nice that he's like in a really good place.
Peter Rosenberg
And then prior to that, got to finish off his career the way he wanted. You know, can't win without Shaq wins the back to back champions. He. He went out on his own sword last year. I'm done.
Ty Butler
Last season. Last season was horrifying. But even then scored 60.
Peter Rosenberg
And a game that got, I think got moved up to ESPN because that same night the warriors were going for 73, right? So ESPN had to figure out, what do we do here? Did we go for the warriors history or do we go for Kobe? Kobe gets on ESPN, scores 60. Shaq is there.
Ty Butler
It was awesome.
Peter Rosenberg
Snoop was there.
Ty Butler
Kendrick and Top Dog, yo, it was.
Peter Rosenberg
It was awesome. You know what breaks my heart above and above everything, as much as I love basketball, I am never gonna love a player as much as I love that dude. So that's just gone, right? Like just knowing I'm never gonna have an athlete that I love as much as Kobe, it just. It's really, really stinks.
Ty Butler
I will tell you this, though. You think you wouldn't because he was your childhood guy. But I will tell you, if one day your jets get a real quarterback, you never know what's still in your heart because I swear to you, I didn't think I'd ever love a player as much as I love Larry Bird or Mario Lemieux. But that Jaden Daniels, number five, if this thing keeps going, could get pretty.
Peter Rosenberg
But basketball, and it's a close second like football and the NBA are right there like you could.
Ty Butler
But because basketball is your sport, Lakers are your team.

Mustard. All right, let's get some calls real quick. But first, leaderboard updates brought to you by Schweppes. I know Ty's been locked in all day to the FedEx St. Jude Championship.
Peter Rosenberg
You know me well.
Ty Butler
Yeah. Round two action. Now Tommy Fleetwood finds himself in first place, 13 under Kala Morikawa right behind him at nine. Well, four strokes behind him. Let's see. Scotty Scheffler, seven under. That do anything for you?
Peter Rosenberg
Does a lot for me headed into the weekend.
Ty Butler
Ricky Fowler at 4 under. How about that?
Peter Rosenberg
We do the same thing when we do these leaderboard updates. We just look for people.
Ty Butler
We Tony fee now 300. Sure, sure. Let's use dead last. Maybe we should include that. Min Woo Lee is at plus eight. And that is your leaderboard update presented by Schweppes. Schweppes offers a hole in one refreshment experience and is proud to sponsor PGA of America. Enhance your summer with Schweppes Seltzer or Schweppes Ginger Ale. By the way, you pointed out that, like, I was limping earlier, and, like, I've been like, ah, man, that kind of hurts right now. My cat. It's definitely because I walked all through the airport. I definitely did more today than I've been doing.
Peter Rosenberg
Take the assisted. They give you a wheelchair?
Ty Butler
Yeah, they asked. They were like, I walked in. I was like, is there anyone who can, like, help me? They're like, oh, like a wheelchair. I was like, I don't want a wheelchair. I would catch a ride with someone, like, in a car wheelchair. I'm not getting pushed by.
Peter Rosenberg
Someone's gonna catch a picture of you and throw that on the Internet.
Ty Butler
Like, I'm not. I'm not Snoop Dogg. And the Murder Was the Case video.
Peter Rosenberg
That's definitely making rounds.
Ty Butler
You know, if they would let me get in the golf cart or, you know, those carts.
Peter Rosenberg
Saw that moving around LaGuardia today.
Ty Butler
Yeah, I see those. How do I get on that? Because, yeah, my leg is definitely humming a bit today from all the walking. Let's hit some phone calls before we get to enn. Let's go to Chris in Rockaway. What up, Chris?
Dave
Hey, what's going on, guys? Love you guys. As a duo, I have two quick things. One, on yesterday, you were talking about Jaden Samuels or Jaden Daniels and his second season. And I was curious if you. If you knew what the Latin word, like the meaning of the word sophomore in Latin was.
Ty Butler
Of what?
Dave
Sophomore. Like a second season sophomore.
Ty Butler
Oh, what does sophomore actually mean? I don't know.
Dave
Yeah, it means wise fool. And so you used to always, like, tell us that. That for the second season when you play in college, a lot of people kicked off the team because you just naturally go backwards. So I think 9 and 8 in a playoff win should be the ceiling, and that would be a great ceiling for Jaden. And the other piece I just want to mention on Jameis Winston. I'm a Jets fan. Just from core memories. I actually hate the way the organizations run, but I just wish he came to the jets because his positivity is just incredible. And I think the good versus evil of the aura and awfulness and curse of the Jets, I just would love for him to. To be in, you know, the other side of the locker room. I don't know if you see the viral videos with the field goal challenge, but I think it would have Been like the ultimate good versus evil test. And I'll leave it and listen to you guys.
Ty Butler
Thank you. Chris. I, it's an interesting, interesting thing about.
Peter Rosenberg
The definition of sophomore wise got a wise fool. Yeah, yeah, very interesting. I didn't know that until I just looked it up.
Ty Butler
Yeah, I don't.
Peter Rosenberg
I pulled a Dave Rothenberg during Stump. Rothenberg. You asked the question, you just look it up.
Ty Butler
No, that's not what happened. That's. This is different. You didn't break any sort of. Let's see, let's. Speaking of Dave, let's hear from Dave. Not Dave Rothenberg, Dave the person.
Dave
Yeah, guys, thanks. 30, 35 minutes ago. Ty, you said a call a cold K everything. You don't know the name, whatever. Okay? So when you do a show, if you're going to refer to someone, use their name because you can remember everything I said which you wrong. Why don't you remember my name is Dave and clues. Because I remember your name. I don't say, oh Mr. Show today.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't come, don't come on chatting like that.
Dave
Okay, okay, okay, so let me talk to you about my.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, the caller I heard. I did not remember your name. It was not a sign of disrespect. I did not remember your name. You called the talk. Yeah, but like TI said you started with some bull, so stop it.
Dave
No, there we go. Why is it bull? Because it's opposite you.
Ty Butler
No, cuz it's a reach.
Dave
Hello, why, why is it both of his opposite your tape? Listen, Derek Jeter, okay, He has kids, okay? Wow. We all have kids. He can bring his kids, right? He has private planes many times in old time as they brought children many times.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, cornball, you sound like you're cornier than me.
Dave
You're cornier than me. Listen, let me tell you, I'll go toe to toe with you any minute, okay? You're way cornier and people don't people know that. But let me tell you this, that's not, we're not trying to take hits on each other here, all right? Because it's not like that. It's a talk. It.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I'm taking hits on you because you came. Hi Dave. Good night. Good night. Good night, Dave. Good night.
Ty Butler
I, I kind of didn't pay attention to the first thing he said. The first thing he said was that you referenced him and you didn't reference his name.
Peter Rosenberg
His name. I, I, I like legitimately did not remember his name. I said I was listening to the K show and it was someone who Called in and he was irate about Jeter not attending Old Timers Day. And he's. He thought that I was doing it out of a sign of disrespect.
Ty Butler
You should have memorized. When you heard him, you go, that's Dave from Queens. And sometimes people are a little.
Peter Rosenberg
Guys, come on, man.
Ty Butler
And by the way. Don't, don't. Everybody's got kids, all right? And guess what? And you don't have the opportunity to play an Old Timers game, Right? None of us do. To us, it would be the biggest deal in the world.
Peter Rosenberg
He should have brought the kids.
Ty Butler
Derek.
Peter Rosenberg
Yankee Stadium. Come on.
Ty Butler
Derek.
Peter Rosenberg
Serious. Had a serious phone call.
Ty Butler
Derek Jeter has the opportunity to be a part of Old Timers Day every year.
Peter Rosenberg
Is that a serious phone call?
Ty Butler
Well, no, it's not weird to bring your kids, but, like, that doesn't solve the problem.
Peter Rosenberg
The entirety of the phone call was ridiculous. They were coming at me because I didn't remember.
Ty Butler
It's Dave from Queens, for God's sake. I think he made a salient point.
Peter Rosenberg
And he's saying, I know you have this birthday party scheduled, Derek Jeter, but maybe you should rethink that and bring your kids to Yankee Stadium, because how dare you not miss the Old Timer's Day. Come on. Is that a serious phone call?
Ty Butler
If. If you cared about going, then moving. Your daughter's birthday is obviously on the table. That's you. That's not hard. You could do that. Hey, baby. Sorry, it's.
Peter Rosenberg
But he doesn't have to, and he doesn't want to go obligated to do that.
Ty Butler
Like, I just.
Peter Rosenberg
And this is the dude who I said, who was.
Ty Butler
When is it enough for you people? By the way, Judge, it's. It's not enough. And I get it, because he hasn't performed in the playoffs. Derek Jeter may be the greatest Yankee playoff performer of all time. It's not enough that it doesn't come to Old Timers Day. When is it enough? Who. Who gives you enough?
Peter Rosenberg
And yes, Dave, you are cornball.
Ty Butler
You don't seem in the day from Queens.
Peter Rosenberg
Nah, he's just. There's a couple of things that, in the heat of the battle that I got to remember. I got to remember who I am, what I do right? Who I pray to at night. I gotta remember.
Ty Butler
You gotta keep your. Stay focused.
Peter Rosenberg
Gotta keep myself disciplined, because that's the type of phone call that'll send me off the radio.
Ty Butler
By the way, you got very. It's funny, that wasn't one that Would have bothered me as much.
Peter Rosenberg
I just don't like the way he came at me. You came at me crazy. That's the. That's the problem. That's the problem. You came at me on some energy. That was crazy.
Ty Butler
It's so funny.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't feel that way.
Ty Butler
I'm not triggered usually by the way they come at me. It's the. What did they say? Because sometimes it sounds like they're gonna come at me crazy, but then what they're saying it about is benign and I don't care. But when. That's very funny.
Peter Rosenberg
The energy was wild off the rip.
Ty Butler
The energy wasn't great. It wasn't great.
Peter Rosenberg
But anyway, game time.
Ty Butler
But you know, I have strong theories about black men and white men having different lines of offense.
Peter Rosenberg
We go in the race route.
Ty Butler
It's true. It's true. Because there are certain things that white guys will say to each other and it's nothing. And I've said it. And then I said it to a black guy and they were like, did you just invite me to your genitals?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, that's great.
Ty Butler
I'm like, I said, that's my brother yesterday.
Peter Rosenberg

Ty Butler
Yeah, I should.

Ty Butler

Peter Rosenberg

Ty Butler
