Game time is brought to you by Televardu Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, it's Tully time. It's Tully time. Mets open up their series with the Marlins coverage immediately following us on 880 at 630 and the Yankees visit the White Sox at 7 40. The Liberty play host to the Mystics at 7 and Rutgers takes on Ohio over in Piscataway with Carlin on the call tonight again, 6 o' clock, Tullamore due the original triple still triple blended and triple cast matured Iris Whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore do or try the new Tullamore do, honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. So Yankees lineup is finally out. Allen and Anthony Volpe is in the lineup. He is batting ninth and playing short.
A
Of course he is. We'll need an explanation. There's nothing that really tells you that he should be in the lineup. And it's not like they're playing Caballero somewhere else.
B
He's not in the lineup when Volpe's been in the lineup, right? Correct me if I'm wrong, over the last three days, Caballero has not been in the lineup. Definitely yesterday I don't think he was in the line. So again, he's not tearing the COVID off the ball either. But he's doing much better than a guy that right now is batting.204 and over the last 11 games has one hit and it's his only time on base. Was it a 0.027 on base percentage? Something ridiculous like that. But he's still out there.
A
I don't understand it. I don't understand the thinking. They're being very defiant about this. And again, it's like it just reaches a Point where as a fan, what you now need is, you need an explanation that goes beyond the stubbornness and the. We believe in them and all the positives and anything that, like Boone has said over the last couple of days, you got to give me more than just the platitudes. You got to go a little bit deeper and explain it because you know you're in a run right now. The division is still there for you. You're playing a team in the White Sox that, by the way, while record wise, they are an abomination, they have played better of late. So you can't have a Mets vs Nationals kind of series right now coming off of what you just did to Washington where you smoked them, you had a million home runs and then you. Now you're on the road like, you've got to win these games. And if he continues to be a hole in the lineup and he looks as lost as he looks and just everything he looks like at the plate has been really hard to watch after, like, again, fans are going to be mad. And I expect you to. 800 now with 937-76. You could be mad about this. But you know what really pisses me off now about this. This is not good for the kid. This is not good for the player. Don't even tell me about how it could hurt the team because he. We saw him have two outs in one inning and they still scored nine runs in the same inning. So it's not like he can make them lose. But this doesn't make him better. This doesn't help him. And you can't tell me that you believe in him and keep throwing him out there. You've got to get him right and putting him out there game after gay. What do you. Well, he's out of New York now. He's away from those bad fans that boo him. Now he's somewhere else. Where maybe take the pressure off in Chicago where there'll be nobody there or maybe a handful of Yankee fans in Chicago, but he won't have to face that kind of scrutiny. Maybe he'll be better off. Oh, his issues. According to a lot of scouts, his mechanical and mental. His issues aren't. They're being mean to me. No, you're not doing right by the kid, Don, by doing this.
B
And also explain to me why you benched him for two games. You benched him for two games.
A
They were home because they were home and he was playing bad and they didn't want him to hear the boom.
B
But you still put him back in the lineup for him to go over nine the next two games that both home games. We've got breaking news.
A
More breaking news. Yes, is this big.
B
Ian Rapoport has it. Adam Schefter has also picked up on it as well that Micah Parsons is now a Green Bay Packer.
A
Wow, they really did it.
B
Traded to the Green Bay packers and they gave money 40 mil. Highest paid non quarterback in NFL history. He'll get $47 million. TJ Watt got 41. Jamar Chase got 40.25, Miles Garrett got 40.
A
What did the Cowboys get?
B
Well, that's what we're looking. Well, you know, the rumors were they were gonna get two first round picks. I have not seen. Here we go, two first round picks. See if there's anything else. But Schefter said the Cowboys are trading all pro Micah Parsons to the Packers. They agree to a four year $188 million deal including $136 million guaranteed at $47 million. Parsons is the highest paid non quarterback in history and nets two first rounders for Dallas.
A
This is not about him anymore. This is now about the Dallas Cowboys. This is not about Michael Parsons anymore and the packers and all that. Like that's a secondary story.
B
Yeah, of course it is. Yeah.
A
Because every team probably was calling the Cowboys about a move and like, can I get this guy? What is it going to cost me? Because it's worth it to them. What are the Dallas Cowboys now?
B
They just lost.
A
You have to think to yourself now I've said this before about Jerry Jones. Those who don't remember George Steinbrenner at his worst, just look at Jerry Jones. You have a franchise that prints money, that is a huge brand that is living off winning. A long time ago, early on in your ownership and ever since then has been kind of like a team that has lived off of drama and not as much on on field success. And Jerry's at the helm of it and Jerry's fingerprints are on everything and he makes these decisions. This felt like it turned into a personal battle with the agent and now you let a talent like him walk out the door. When you're trying to win Jerry Jones, you might want to put him at the very top of the list now as worst owners in sports. Despite the fact his franchise just prints.
B
Money, his ego gets in the way. And again, I fight with Cowboy fans all the time. They print money worth billions of dollars. You know, off the backs of the guys that built that. All right, that star, that logo, what the Dallas Cowboys means America's team was long before he got there. But now you just traded a 26 year old who was only missed three games in his career or four games actually. And it was the four games that he missed last year. Four years, four time All Pro, two time All Pro, all, you know, Pro bowl. But then four time all pro, two team. The other two times rookie of the year. And he's 26. 26 years old. Four years 52 and a half sacks. Averages 14 and a half sacks a year. 13, 13 and a half. 14 and 12 actually. So what does that come out to on average? Because again with the games played, according to Pro football reference extrapolate out to 17 games. He's good for more than 14 sacks a season. At the age of 26, you got two first round picks. Where are you going to be drafting Alan? Green Bay packers are going to be a pretty good team. All right, so what are you hoping for? Getting, getting like the 17th overall pick and the 20th overall pick in the draft over the next couple of years. You tell me that either of those two first round picks are going to be able to produce a Parsons. Right? I mean, so you're hoping, right? It's ego. Like if you want to say, oh, we're paying Dak and we got cap issues or whatever because it is money, but these are the guys that you hold on to for dear life. You hold on to them. Guys that get to the quarterback, that are young. Those are the guys that you pay. And I just wonder what this does to the rest of the team. Think they're all disgusted to begin with.
A
Jake. Jake said this in my ear and I was actually thinking about it too. So since he said it now, I know it's definitely something we should throw out there because that means I'm not the only one faking it. Luka Doncic was just traded in this calendar year too. Yeah, close to the same age, due to get paid big money. Yeah, but where exactly moved him out.
B
But, but at least now partially like what's going on in Dallas, at least. But at least now they had a reason. At least the Mavericks can say. I don't know if I want to pay a guy. He's kind of out of shape.
A
It's just weird. Like think about this is part city.
B
Like that he's 26 years old. He's a beast.
A
Green Bay, Green Bay's like Green Bay's right there. I mean, look at the nfc. Well, Green Bay is a team that Jordan love has a lot. Now all of a sudden it's like, yo, you better be good because this team could win.
B
The Lions are still the team to beat in that division. You think? But you know what, right, what, what do you want to do? You want to be able to get to golf, right? If you're going to beat the Detroit Lions, get pressure on golf. Slow down that offense. Minnesota's got essentially a rookie quarterback in J.J. mcCarthy. The Green Bay packers got themselves one of the best defensive players in football. Yes. They sacrificed two first round picks. That's not nothing. I get that. But if Green Bay is trying to make the playoffs and trying to make a run in a wide open nfc, I know the defending champions are there, but they have to feel like, you know, we could be in the conversation and it ends up being like two picks that are like not even in the top 20. Possibly. Now they paid him a mint, but he's 26.
A
No, you're, you're getting. Yeah, no, you're, you're, you're getting.
B
This is a special player and I don't like the way that it was handled on the Parsons camp or whatever, but when you start to hear he had a problem with the, the agent and it just becomes ego.
A
Yeah, the agent got involved and Jerry didn't like it because he thought we had a deal. And you, you just took it. This is a top 10 player in the NFL and you just traded him away for a pair of first round picks and he top, sorry, top 10 player in the NFL in his prime. And you're the Dallas Cowboys. This wasn't about, oh, we can't afford it. This was, we don't want to play.
B
It was just the ego of it. And also, listen, I still think the Eagles are the team to be in that division and you've got the commanders there as well. But it's not like the Dallas Cowboys are awful.
A
If you're the Giants, you love this.
B
If you're the Dallas Cowboys and you're like a four or five win, let's say, let's say the Cowboys are the Giants and they've got a disgruntled defender in Parsons and kind of like a situation with the Giants were in. Although it's a much different position with Saquon. It's like, listen, we're not going anywhere. I'm not going to pay this guy all this money and have these prime years be wasted on a team that's not going anywhere. The Dallas Cowboys are a playoff team and now they've got two probably mid first round picks for a stud guy and now, now, what are you like, if I'm Dak Prescott, I'm like, what am I doing? Here we go. Where are we going? Where, where are we going? Where are the Dallas Cowboys going right now? Winning the division?
A
No.
B
All right. And you just made the packers stronger. So now the packers are obviously stronger to be a playoff team. The Vikings could be a playoff team, certainly if Washington doesn't win the division. Philadelphia is a playoff team, like, so. So what? Hey, listen, I'm no Cowboy fan, but I'd like to see a Dallas Cowboy fan defend this. And you didn't trade him to a place where at least next year you got a top five pick.
A
Don, the talk about the Dallas Cowboys coming off last season was they had like, they wanted to get back to a point where they could be a team that can win a Super Bowl. And when you looked at the roster, you felt like at full health, that was possible. Dak. Healthy, like all the pieces were there. Now they made a coaching change that some people scratch their heads about. But, man, Jerry just gets in the way.
B
He's just in the way.
A
Like, that's what, what is the, what explanation could you possibly have that that was the right thing to do for the franchise? It's just.
B
He thrives off this drama.
A
Is he? Come on. Worst owner right now. Worst.
B
Well, how many owners are trading away their best player a week before the first game of the season out of spite.
A
Out of spite. Not that you can't afford him because you're the richest franchise in North America. Not that you. Not that. Not that he's got an attitude problem, all that stuff, because when he's playing, he's fine. It's just when he, when all this stuff went down, he started acting up to get himself out of there.
B
All right, Schefter saying it also includes a frontline player. But you're not replacing him with Parsons, right? You're not going to get somebody as good as Parsons. Now. Maybe you'll get a defender in return. Kenny Clark.
A
All right.
B
Kenny Clark and two first round picks. That is what Adam Schefter is reporting. Kenny Clark, for those of you that do not know, tackle is a defensive tackle who is going to be 30 on October 4th. Good player, nine years in the league.
A
Doesn't replace him.
B
Does not replace him because his sack totals, he's never had. He had seven and a half sacks in 23 last year. Had just one. Played every game. Although he was, he was a right defensive tackle last year. Defensively, he's a nose tackle. So it's a different position. He's a three time Pro Bowler. He's not nobody. He is a frontline player. Yes, but you did not replace the production of Parsons. You got a guy that's four years older than Parsons and you got. When in all likelihood is going to be two middling picks in the first round for a 26 year old stud. Now Green Bay is going to pay him. But once it's all paid, they now got themselves one of the best defensive players in football. The Dallas Cowboys trade away their best player and have taken at least a hit because they're not going to get that production sack wise. They're going to get, they're lucky like a quarter of the sacks from him that they would have gotten from Parsons. And it's a different position to boot. I don't know how you defend it.
A
You can't. You made a decision based on spite, not on talent, not on finance. Spite. That's what you did. Everybody else got paid. CD Lamb got paid, Dak got paid. Who didn't get paid with the Dallas Cowboys? Zeke Elliott got paid. Like this doesn't make sense.
B
No, because is. It doesn't make sense because it's not football sense. It's ego. It's. I was getting into it with my player. He probably got ticked off what happened in the preseason game when he was laying on the training table. He's getting into it with his agent and he wanted to say, hey, I'm Jerry Jones. I'm not taking this garbage. I'm trading him away. But because of that now you've hurt your team in the. Now you just don't. This, this makes. This is so stupid on so many different levels, honestly. So we'll see if it works out. I don't see how it does. Certainly doesn't make you better. You're not in any. And here's. And here's the thing. He's cutting off his nose despite his face. He's the one that wants the champ. He's 82 years old. He's not buying green bananas as Michael K. Would say. So now you picked up two first round picks. What the future. Your future's now, man. You got an aging quarterback, right? You're in a division where you're the third best team at best, but at least a playoff team. And now you're thinking about the Future as a 26 year old walks out the door. You know what you're going to be looking for with those draft picks? Allen when they're on the clock taking the packers pick. You know what they're going to be looking for? Micah Parsons.
A
Yeah. A replacement.
B
You're going to try to replace the guy that you walked out the door.
A
Valuable things you can have in the sport. There's three critical positions that you have to have. Quarterback, offensive tackle, and an edge rusher. Those are the three things you got to have. And they had an elite one, arguably the best in the league. Arguably.
B
Now, if you want to argue the $47 million, $36 million guaranteed that the packers gave them, well, that's not that much different than what was the Watt contract that was over 40. Right. What was that? 43, 42, we just said.
C
And then. And Watts.
B
Watts. Four years older than Parsons.
A
Yeah.
B
So this is the going rate.
A
Yeah. 41 annual.
B
41 annual. All right. For a guy that's four years older. So the Steelers, to keep Watt, who's 30, who's going to be 31 October 11th, they gave him the money because they understand the importance of having an amazing defensive player. You had a guy that's four or five years younger, and you let him go because you didn't want to pay him five, six million dollars more a year. Who's the better player right now in the stage of their careers? Now, T.J. watt is an amazing player. Had 11 and a half sacks last year, led the league with 19. But he's going to be 31 and gets hurt. That's a good point. He only played 10 games in 2022. The only four games Parsons ever missed were the four games he missed this year. I guess the reason I get animated about it is because whenever I criticize Jerry Jones, the Cowboy fans come out of the woodwork and rip me. I'm telling you, he's a detriment to your team. All right, There may have been a time where he made your team a blank load of money. I get it. But he ran Jimmy Johnson, a great coach, out of Dodge. You haven't won a thing since he ran you. He ran him out. He. He could not get along with him. He wanted to take all the credit. He couldn't stand it. People thought Jimmy Johnson was a great coach. I read Jimmy Johnson's book. He would sit there and Jimmy Johnson would make the trade and he would go to the media and he would be the one saying, I made the deal. I know the one. He signed off on the deal, but he couldn't stand that there was somebody smarter than him in his own room and he ran a great coach out the door and hasn't been able to hire one since only Parcells, where he finally caved and gave Parcells a shot and then Romo fumbled the snap and they didn't win that playoff game. How many? What, two, three playoff wins since Jimmy Jim gone? Never mind. Super Bowls were killing the Yankees for not winning a championship since 2009. America's team hasn't won since 96 because of him. But I get killed all the time. Oh, you don't know he did. He's in the Hall. He's in the hall of Fame. Cowboy fans, the guy that is pissing all over your organization is in the hall of Fame because he made millions and millions and millions of dollars building Jerry World. How many championships does Jerry World gonna get you? That's your guy.
A
That's the line.
B
That's your guy.
A
When you talk about how much money he's made the franchise and how big the franchise has gotten to a point where they didn't. I just see that link. Anthony, did you send that with all the franchise valuations? Forbes came out with it today. Yeah. Yeah. Where's the Cowboys? Oh, they're number one.
B
And I give him credit for that. But you're working with an incredible, incredible value with that star and the low. Everything about the Dallas Cowboys that I've always said were built by Gil Brandt, Tex Stram, Tom Landry, and you bought it and you opened the doors to make a mint. Great. You put a lot of money in the pockets of billionaires. Billionaires have now more billions because of Jerry Jones. But now the Cowboys are going nowhere because of Jerry Jones. What do you want to have? Do you want to win the Forbes wealthiest franchise or do you want to win a Super Bowl? I ask that the Cowboy fans, there's a ton of them in New York. 1-800-919-3776. What gets you up in the morning? What gets you fired up to be a football fan? That I've got the richest franchise in sports or I'm on the cusp of winning a Super Bowl. What do you want? Because apparently Jerry wants a bunch of people talking about him. He's much said it. As long as the attention's on him and they get their seven primetime games and the money is coming in and he's in the hall of Fame. He's good. Because it can't be about winning because this deal does not help you win. This is an ad by BetterHelp. These days it feels like there's a vice for everything. All right. 1-800-919-3776. Parsons now a Green Bay Packer. Remember Green Bay Packers? They hu with Philadelphia in the playoffs last year and you've got J.J. mcCarthy, essentially a rookie in Minnesota. So Green Bay has to feel like they can be right there with Detroit.
A
You're Chicago, you're like, damn.
B
Well, you're just hoping Caleb Williams turns out to be a player and then you're okay.
A
Well, he's now got to run for his life against two teams.
B
But it affects, you know, obviously a lot of cowboy fans in New York. And obviously it helps the, you know, the Giants that, you know, the best player on the Dallas Cowboys is now a member of the Green Bay Packers. So let's hear from you. Let's go to Tommy in Queens running ESPN New York. What's up, Tommy?
C
Hey, Don. Hey, Alan. I love the show.
B
Thank you.
C
I. So I am a humongous Giantsman. Just gonna start it off with this.
B
Okay.
C
But I'm in the military and I'm just gonna make this analogy. So I'm a recruiter right now in the. In the military right now. Now let's say we have individual that can recruit his behind off, but super disrespectful to leadership. How does that affect everyone else? I think it allows like non productive ways of doing things for other players. It's counterproductive for other players because if the superstar could do certain things because that superstar produces so many sacks, then that means the small player could feel the same exact way and disrespect leadership.
B
It was a contract. I understand. I think it's. I understand your especially being from the military, Tommy, and thank you for your service. That laying on the table, the train that. That was disrespectful by Parsons. I agree, but I'm sorry. You got to work it out, man. He's 26 years old. He's your best player. Every draft pick you have, you're hoping to find the next Micah Parsons. You just trade him away, walked out the door. All because of the ego of the owner. Getting into it with his agent, not being able to work something out. Does he deserve to be the highest paid player outside of a quarterback in the NFL? I guess that's certainly debatable. But look at the money that Pittsburgh gave J.T. watt, who. Who's four years older. And yes, they were seven and 10 last year, but you know what? They only had Dak Prescott for eight games. They're a playoff team that just traded away their best player. That doesn't make sense.
A
Not a playoff team now.
B
Well, they were, they were a player.
A
I mean, they were, they were a borderline. Like they were trying to get. To get their emoji back.
B
I'm telling you, if he's 30, I get it. If the Steelers did this with Watt, I'd say, you know what? You're in the division. You got Baltimore there, you got Cincinnati there. You know, it's really tough for you to be able to win the division. He's going to be 31 years old in October. Don't give him the money. Steelers still gave him the money. You know why? Because he's a really good player and they want to compete. Dallas had a similar player. He's four years younger, right? Yeah. You got Washington and Philadelphia to contend with, but two first round picks in Green Bay just got better. So where do you think those picks are going to be?
A
Like, Jerry must have been just in. He must have believed that that conversation he had with Micah, the private conversation that he had where he had the, I guess the framework for a contract that he believed. And then Micah had David Mullen get a call, Jerry to sew it up. And Mullingetta obviously was like, well, wait a minute, wait. You didn't discuss this with me. There's more things that we need to talk about. This is reason why a player has an agent, reason why all of us have agents, because we talk about things and not think of details that the agent is supposed to think of that I don't know. We gotta have this in there.
B
Right.
A
And so once Moulin getta started doing that with Jerry, Jerry's like, no, no, we had a deal. Like, we're not changing.
B
And also Jerry dealing with Parsons is a way to kind of hopefully usurp what's going on with it. Yeah. Circumvent the whole deal. Yeah.
A
Because you want to get over on.
B
Him, which is not the right thing to do. It's not smart, but it's not the right thing to do.
A
You thought he had a deal. And when all that changed, Jerry's mood went from. You had to see it. Because I remember all through the summer, a lot of times I was on get up and hosted get up that we had. Obviously we do a ton of Dallas Cowboys because that's one of the hits. I mean, that draws a lot of attention.
B
Cowboys, Lakers.
A
Oh, yeah, yeah. So we did a lot of it and we played a lot of Jerry sound and Jerry would have a tone about him that was sort of like, you know, yeah, we'll get it done. Like. Like him making it clear that this is part of it and we'll get something done. We'll figure it out. There's things to figure it out, but they. Oh, this is how we want to do it. But he never seemed exasperated. And then once the agent got involved, he looked pissed.
B
Yeah, he was mad.
A
He looked like. And that's when people, like our NFL guys at espn, who are so good, that's when it's. They started to kind of suggest, like, this, this might go the wrong way. And no one would believe. Like, no one believes he would have done.
B
Alan. This never happened.
A
Nobody trades players.
B
Like, this does not happen.
A
Khalil Mack, like, was that the last guy in his prime. Edge rusher in his prime that was traded like this? Who else got traded like this?
B
It doesn't happen at this age. No. From this. From this team. No. No way. Charlie, in the car. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Charlie?
C
Hey, how you doing? Good. I've been a Dallas Cowboy fan. I'm 58 years old. I've been a Dallas Cowboy fan since 1973.
A
Okay, okay.
B
They were around the same age.
C
When Jerry bought this team. I was kind of upset, but, you know, it went in the right direction and everything. And then he played that bullcrap with Emmett Smith. If you remember, back then, I was watching the next Netflix thing and it just brought it up, and it got me so upset. You know, you just came off a Super bowl win, and you with the best running back in the league, and you're playing all this crap on him. I understand we didn't win a Super bowl, but your best player. I understand you didn't play every down, Jerry, but this is like getting punched in the face. I grew up in Hell's Kitchen, Manhattan. I go out and get punched in the face all the time. And fighting bars or whatever, this feels like I just got dragged through the bar and, like, everybody beat on top of me. I don't know what to say. I'm sorry I'm screaming. It's just.
B
No, this is what. You let it out, man. I'm. Listen, I'm no Cowboy fan. You know that, but I don't understand this either.
C
Sorry. I'm so sorry. Why would you do that? Why would you do this, Jerry?
B
Because you got a bad owner, Charlie. Tell me I'm wrong. I know you got a bad owner.
C
No, no, you're 100% right. Ever since Jimmy Johnson left him, all he's been doing is killing. I'm driving on the New York State Thruway, going home, and I am so upset. I just want to.
B
Oh, listen.
C
I don't know what to say. This is so frustrating, bro. This is so frustrating. I just want to go home and rip up every piece of Dallas Cowboy memorabilia. I have. I collect cards. I got Mike is rookie. I got all. I got Roger Starbucks autograph. I got Tony Dorset. I. I mean, I am a die hard. I got the tattoo on my arm, and this guy goes and does this, and you're like, what? I'm sorry. I know I give you a chance to ask me back, but.
B
No.
C
It's so frustrating, man.
B
I just.
C
I don't even Know what to say?
B
I don't know. There's nothing to say. You traded your best player basically on the eve of the season. And the Khalil Mack is a great comparison. Alan, he was 26. Oakland traded him away to Chicago. 10 and a half sacks, 11 sacks, 15 sacks, 24 years old. It's at that level. But you know what? Oakland was dysfunctional.
A
Yeah. They were winning. They didn't want to pay him.
B
They didn't want to pay him. They were, you know, the 2017 team was a 6 and 10 team. Jack Del Rio wasn't a great coach. You know, it was. They, they were a bit of a mess. I mean, The Cowboys were 7 and 10 last year, but they lost their starting quarterback for half the year. And. And Mack never lived up to the expectations in Chicago. And then eventually he was, you know, six sacks here with the Chargers. So he's bounced around. Believe me, Parsons, a better player.
A
Think about this. The packers not only got better, they got younger.
C
Yeah.
A
Because they trade away a guy who's going to turn 30, who's. Again, he's a serviceable defensive tackle.
B
He's a starter.
A
He's a player. Yeah.
B
He's a frontline player.
A
He's fine. Like, it's not. He gets paid. So he. He's gets paid. He just got a contract. He gets paid. But he was also.
B
He's 30.
A
The packers got younger and got better.
B
Yeah. And it's. And it's a team, one of the younger rosters.
A
Like, They're a top 10 team in the league. And now they have moved themselves into. You could argue. You could make the case. Think about the NFC teams. Eagles just won the super bowl, so you got to put them in number one.
B
Yeah.
A
The Detroit Lions were for what, 15 and two, right?
B
Weren't they? No, they're good.
A
They're right there. Number. You know, the commanders were right there last year, but would you put them three? But after that.
B
Well, the Packers. Are there a playoff team that might be able to. Hey, what do you do?
A
49Ers aren't what they used to be anymore. Like, they've lost a lot of pieces.
B
Go after the quarterback. There's got a guy that's going to go after the quarterback. He's going to play with a chip on his shoulder, man, think now.
A
I got to see something.
B
Muhammad on Long Island. You're on espn. New York. What's up, man?
C
What's going on, man? Don. Love the show. I just wanted to say that. I just wanted to say I had two Things do you guys. And the callers have been hitting on it for a while now. I think this is par for the course for Jerry. That's one thing. I mean has there ever been a superstar associated with the Cowboys that hasn't gone through some kind of contract dysfunction or contract dispute and bat. I think this is just who he is. And you guys already alluded to how the fact that he let go of the coach back in the 90s which was like everybody didn't. No one saw that coming. So I think this is just who Jerry is. Nobody's going to be bigger than he is in his own organization. But I wanted to make the point. If you look at the last I think maybe four or five super bowl champions, they all have had like game records on that D line except for I think the Bucks which they had Tom Brady but and they still had an amazing D line that was taking over games. If you look at, look at the.
B
Pressure they put on Mahomes in that Super Bowl.
C
Exactly. This is what I mean. And if you look at the other Super Bowls with the Chiefs last Super Bowl Chris Jones he almost single handedly won that game in the fourth quarter. Look what Aaron Donald did. So. And what the Eagles did last year. So it's like I don't see how you could see yourself trying to win a Super bowl without having a dominant D line. And like you guys said, arguably the best DN in the league and you traded away. So I don't know what's going on.
B
Here's the NFL Muhammad in a nutshell. The NFL in a nutshell. To me if you, you want to dumb it down, get great quarterback play. Stop great quarterback play. Yeah that's what, that's what it really.
A
Essentially the three most important positions because tackle is to protect the quarterback from that edge rush, edge rusher, kill the quarterback and quarterback. That is the most important. The NFL is the greatest live drama ever. And here's why. Cowboys open the season Thursday night, right. They'll be there'll be the opening game September 4th against Philadelphia. Then they play the Giants at home, right. Then they play the Bears in Chicago. Then On Sunday night, September 28th at 8:20 they will host the Green Bay Packers. There you go Jerry World with Michael Parsons in a Green Bay packers jersey. If you are, if you are NBC this is how unbelievable that that will be an unreal rating you just gave me.
B
Just out of curiosity that Prescott running.
A
For his life from Michael a teammate.
B
So give me so Dallas where's that game against when they Play Philly.
A
Philly's in. In Philly.
B
Is that the Brazil game, though?
A
Oh, no, no, it's. It's opening night. Right. Lincoln Financial Field.
B
Yeah.
A
Okay, let's open it September 4th.
B
Okay, September. All right, so at, so Philly at.
A
Philly home against the Giants, Right. All right, that's one o'. Clock. That's in the, you know, Jerry world. The Giants come to town, then they go to Chicago and they play the Packers.
B
So they're likely. Can you imagine? They're one and two national television at home against the Packers. You're telling me that Parsons sacks Prescott. Can you imagine that that building is going to erupt. Cheering Parsons.
A
It's going to be.
B
This is going to be like Shockerman coming back with the Red Wings. They're going to be chant Parsons.
A
I mean, think about the drama, though.
B
No, that's the only, the only, the.
A
Only thing even say to himself, I can't trade him.
B
The NFL wants to move that to Thursday. They want to move that to this upcoming third next week.
A
You don't have to flex it. It's already on a national.
B
I know, but they have to wait. You got to wait a minute.
A
Green Bay, when I see you in four weeks. I can't do that.
B
Yeah, they got. What are you doing? It's just, it's, it's, it's so, it's so delicious.
A
And you know what, too? If you were all along going to trade him because you just weren't going to pay him and you knew this was coming. This is very similar again, going back to Luka Doncic. Like, think about the amount of suitors you could have gotten for him. How many teams would have been fighting each other to get this play before this season? I know the packers were always interested. They were the ones that were calling. Other teams were calling too. And Shefte was saying that those, that the sense was that Jerry was no longer saying no. A week ago, Jerry was saying no to people. Then all of a sudden, Jerry was listening.
B
Yeah, well, I think I do agree with that last caller, although I don't agree that that's a reason you trade him. There was probably a point of no return after he laid on the training table. That, that, that's a, that's a big fu to Jerry.
A
You find a way to get over it.
B
No, you do, but Jerry can't. 1-800-919-3776. Take your calls up till 6 and then it's enn till 6:30 and then it's Mets baseball here on ESPN New York.

B
So weird. I was listening to this driving home, Mets were between innings and I just flipped on Sirius and this is one of my favorite REO Speedwagon songs. The one song you should have played from REO Speedwagon. Jacob it's time for me to fly.
A
Oh great song.
B
Great song, but also makes sense because it's time for Parsons to fly to Green Bay. Yes, I guess the only negative is no offense to the great people of Wisconsin, but but go from Dallas to Green Bay. A little of a downgrade I'm sure for Parsons. But, yeah, he'll find something nice to live in with the $48 million he's gonna get paid, right?
A
Yeah, I think he'll be all right.
B
Although he's gonna take a hit tax wise, right? No tax in Texas. Sure, there's tax in Wisconsin, right?
A
You think I'm crying for him over that? No, no.
B
You're crying, not taking a hit.
A
You sound like my wife.
B
Seriously, how so?
A
Listen, we were just talking about this. Where's the lottery out right now? Anthony Powerball is 950 million. 950. And the question was, because we know, like, playing lottery is. Is the biggest crapshoot little tax on the poor, my dad would say, yeah, so that's good. And what number does it have to get to for you to say, screw it, I'll throw it. I'll buy a packet. You know games.
B
No, because I know what you're gonna.
A
Say is that, like, what number is it?
B
Well, it doesn't.
A
It's at 950. When it gets to a billion and you're like, you know, you just. You never know, lightning might strike.
B
No, it's no number for me because, of course the logic is, what? No, I can't use 950, but a billion, I need that. You know, I'll take the hundred million.
A
But Stephanie's go to is always, you know, it's not really a billion because after taxes, like, that's her, but that's everything. And it's like, oh, after taxes, it's still. What is it still? 650 million. Like, it's still a lot of money.
B
But when.
A
If you're so 47 million doll dollars after taxes is still a lot of freaking money.
B
Let me ask you this. I want to get in your pocket.
A
Which is cheaper to live than in Dallas.
B
I don't want to. I don't want to get in your pocket.
A
All right, Please don't.
B
But whenever you got whatever job you've gotten since you've been married to her, I'm sure the topic of conversation came up, well, how much they paying you?
A
I never tell her.
B
Really? Interesting. I have to tell.
A
She doesn't because she's.
B
She handles all the money. I wouldn't want to do it myself again if she.
A
As far as she knows, I'm still making what I made at Newsday.
B
It's like, you know, you know, they're paying me, you know, $100,000. Which would you say? Well, it's not really 100,000 because they're.
A
Going to take that's her whole thing. That's her whole thing. Anytime.
B
I've never met her.
A
Any bonus? Any. Anything like that? She's always like. Well, it's not really that. That's why I don't. I don't want to tell her any numbers. I lie to her all the time. It's not really what it is. Okay, it's not. But it's still pretty good.
B
It's still better than Nancy has to remind me how much I'm making. I really don't remember. I never can remember.
A
Oh, I know. Every penny.
B
I just. I don't do it for the money. I do it for the love of radio.
A
Of course you do.
B
I would do this for free, Alan. You kidding? They have to force the checks.
A
Don't ever say that out loud.
B
I know. Listen.
A
What the hell is wrong with you?
B
I know.
A
I delete that.
B
I was interning at kroc. I think I told this story. Interning at kroc, middle of the night. Maria Melito is the dj, and she let me sit behind the board. And I segued from Rolling Stones shattered.
A
Yep.
B
To To Bad to the Bone.
A
Nice.
B
And I thought it was the coolest thing. And I. And I. And I did it.
A
You did the fader?
B
The fade. Fade up, fade down. Oh, right. And I go, man, I love that. I would do this for free. And she said, shut up. Don't ever say that you never do anything for free. Now somebody might hear you.
A
Yep.
B
And that was 35 years ago. And it's still true. But I have no idea what. I mean. Something came up. I had to go. I had asked Nancy, how much is it? What is espn?
A
You. It's so. You make so much that.
B
You know, it's not that. It's just that.
A
Don't even know.
B
I miss Jacob. And that's not just. I literally, right. Give it to hand. It. I. Michael. Michael thought that it neuters me, but I. I'm. I feel freed by it. Is that, like, Nancy will just, like, give me money for, like, the week? Like, I really. I don't handle it. She pays all the bills. Oh, yeah. I don't. I don't do any of it. I don't want to know about it.
A
She's my cfo.
B
If Nancy wanted to, she could completely siphon it all and disappear on a separate account.
A
You'll never know what went there.
B
And I said, and you'll find my skeleton body with empty containers of Chinese food all over the living room. And my skeleton body would be like, On a lawn chair in the living room, watching a TV on top of a broken TV. I'd be. I'd have nothing.
A
You would have tube TVs.
B
I would have tube TVs. I would just.
A
You don't even have flat screens.
B
So broke. If she left, you'd have to have.
A
A black and white tube TV on top of another one. That's how broke you'd be.
B
I. I would. I would cry if she left me because I love her and I don't want her to leave me.
A
That's.
B
So part of that cry would be, I. I don't know what to do. It'd be by leaving Marco at the Willowbrook Mall and then disappear. It would be the same thing. He'd have a better chance of getting home. It would. The home Alone. Forget it. That if they made Home Alone with.
A
Me at 57, that would be hilarious.
B
You know, the movie would.
A
You don't know where anything is.
B
And it would be a short. It would be 15 minutes because at the end, I'd be dead.
A
I just need some nail clippers I.
B
Got floating in a pond somewhere. Like, how did he end up there? I don't know.
A
He just fell.
B
He just. He was looking for the Panda Express, and it's never made it.
A
Panda Express.
B
JT in Jersey. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, jt?
C
Wow, man, Don. That got there.
A
Yeah, I know.
C
I don't know what was going on. Like, we went down a path, but I just wanted to call and talk about this Jerry situation, man. Like Stephen A. Calls it, I. I think he's called it the gift that just keeps on giving, man. This HBO comedy special that is the Dallas Cowboys. It's like. I think Jerry operates under this. This. This operative, like. Like, assumption that he's going to leave behind a legacy of, like, as being the top business performer with the most business acumen in the NFL. And I think he parallels himself a lot with. With the legacy that Steinbrenner left. I think he hears a lot of the conversation that's still going on about Steinbrenner, and I think he kind of wants to insert himself, like, with this Persona, and instead of running the football team to get wins and leave behind an actual legacy, that's going to prove something, something the fans want and something that'll actually cement himself in the annals of the NFL history. He's. He's completely spiraling, and I think he's, like, trying to adopt this Persona that is just absolutely ridiculous and, frankly, delusional.
B
Well, you nailed it, jt. You mail. You nailed it. Even going back to the heyday, he'd be down on the field clapping before the winds were cemented, you know, just to get the camera time. Always constantly speaking. That's why a lot of coaches didn't want to go there because he was going to just get in the way. He's very, very hands on and I will give him credit. He knows more football than a lot of owners do. But he thinks he's the Dallas Cowboys and he's not. He bought the Dallas Cowboys and he bought their legacy. And if nothing, if you're a Cowboy fan, you should be looking at the damage he's done, not celebrating this hall of Famer. We've got ENN coming up next here on Don on and Rosenberg. Episode: Hour 3: Parsons Blockbuster
Date: August 28, 2025
Hosts: Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg (not present this hour)
Key Theme: The stunning trade of NFL star Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers and the fallout for both franchises, with broader discussion on sports franchise management and owner ego.
This hour centers on the breaking news of Micah Parsons’ blockbuster trade from the Dallas Cowboys to the Green Bay Packers. Don and Alan dissect the implications for the Cowboys, Packers, and the balance of power in the NFC, while fielding emotional calls from fans. The hosts critique Dallas owner Jerry Jones’s handling of both contracts and organizational culture, paralleling sports management mistakes from the past. The show is lively, emotional, and cutting in its sports analysis, especially concerning ownership ego overtaking football acumen.
Alan (on the Cowboys):
"You can't tell me that you believe in him and keep throwing him out there. You've got to get him right and putting him out there game after game... This is not good for the kid. This is not good for the player." ([02:11])
Don (on Jerry Jones):
“Jerry Jones, you might want to put him at the very top of the list now as worst owners in sports. Despite the fact his franchise just prints money.” ([06:11])
Alan (on owner ego):
"You made a decision based on spite, not on talent, not on finance. Spite. That’s what you did." ([15:35])
Don (on the NFL business):
"What do you want to have? Do you want to win the Forbes wealthiest franchise or do you want to win a Super Bowl?" ([20:40])
Caller Charlie (lifelong Cowboys fan):
"I just want to go home and rip up every piece of Dallas Cowboys memorabilia I have...I got the tattoo on my arm, and this guy goes and does this, and you're like, what?" ([31:06])
Muhammad (on D-line supremacy):
"Have you ever seen a recent Super Bowl team without a game-wrecker on the defensive line?" ([34:31])
Don (on NFL priorities):
"The NFL in a nutshell. Get great quarterback play. Stop great quarterback play. That’s what it really is." ([34:54])

The hour is punctuated by fiery rants, devastated Cowboys fans, and a sense of awe at how Jerry Jones prioritized personal pride over generational football logic.
