Game time is brought to you by Tullibore New Irish whiskey because when it's game time, I like when he holds it. The Mets are closing out their series with the Braves tonight at Citi Field. Covered Jimmy Lee following us on 880 at 6:30. Yankees have the night off Telemardu the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Telemore door or try to do Tullamore do honey during today's action. Glasses up to enjoying Tullamore do responsibly. All right, we gotta get into the baseball. Mets, Yankees both win. This is why you bring in a Max Freed. He's supposed to end losing streaks, so no surprise there. How well the Mets played is really, I think the story they finally beat the Braves, right? Pretty amazing that it took so long to do it. But how about Juan Soto? Two home runs, 27th time, Peter that he has had a multi home run game. He's the youngest player to have that high a number in the history of baseball.
Don Hahn
I mean, what's the record for most multi home run games of all time?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm sure it's probably, you know, Ruth or Ruth, Bonds, McGuire, something like.
Don Hahn
But this season, how many. Okay, do we know how many it is this season though? I feel like it's the fourth time. That's my guess is four already.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know that I feel like.
Don Hahn
It'S been a few recently. I have a very interesting thought about the Juan Soto of it all. I'd like to share it with you, Don, if you don't mind.
Peter Rosenberg
Please.
Don Hahn
If only we had a platform, a place where we could talk about such things. We had a lot of first of all, it is the time in which the people who are chirping the loudest about the Soto trade Time to call up. Phone lines are open. 1-800-919-3776 and just admit you freaked out for no reason. Juan Soto is Juan Soto is Juan Soto. He's currently pacing to have the best home run record, best home run season of his career. He's batting over 250 he is the guy you expected him to be. He's having the. The kind of at bats you expected, always making pitchers work for it and doing Juan Soto things. So all of you, pipe down. He's lost his smile. Juan Soto. I'm hearing he's not happy. Where's the shimmy? Everything with Juan Soto is fine. But then those are not the other only people who need to pipe down. Yes, the Soto haters need to pipe down, but also Allen Hahn. And we'll bring this up tomorrow on the live show from Bar A in Lake Como at the beach Bash.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
Allen is looking foolish also because Alan Hahn was insistent that Don should care. Oh, you're going to care about Soto versus Judge. Who gets the best of it, Soto or Judge? And Don's response was always, I do not care what Soto does as long as the Mets are winning. And wouldn't you know it, the Mets were doing nothing but winning and Juan Soto was hot trash. Right now, Juan Soto is playing to the back of his baseball card. And this team, with the exception of last night, really can't buy a win. And Don, I think I feel pretty safe in saying you were enjoying this much more when they were winning at an unbelievable clip and Soto wasn't playing well.
Peter Rosenberg
Exactly. Because that's all it should be about. Right? All the other stuff, and I want to get on Allen, he can defend himself. Tomorrow is all just about trying to dress up what could be a very mundane long baseball season. It's like typical newspaper stuff. Let's make it Judge versus Soto. Let's make it Alonzo versus Judge. All these wacky stuff. Why can't we just make it about. Can the Mets go to the playoffs? Only twice in the history of this organization have they gone to the playoffs in back to back years. Like, that's enough to entertain me. All right. I want Juan Soto not to stick it to the Yankees, not to be more popular than the Yankees, not for him to be better than anybody on the Yankees. I wanted Juan Soto to help the Mets win. And you're so right. He couldn't hit the side of a barn. And the Mets were the best team in the National League and at times the best team in baseball. And now they're sinking like a stone. They've lost 10 of their last 12 games. He's the hottest player in baseball.
Don Hahn
Yeah, but good news, Don. When you look at. When Don. Well, I would say when Don looks at the box score, but of course he's watching every game he's taking. When Don goes to the tv. Let's say he's having dinner with the kids and then he makes it to the TV and he sees the Mets are down 4 1. Do you think he looks at the box score and goes oh, but good news, Soto's two for two.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
All he cares about is that the team hasn't been able to win. Right now I'm not. By the way, none of this is an indictment on Soto. No, I don't think the team was winning because Soto was playing bad and they're losing because he's playing well. But the bottom line is when you're a fan of baseball team all you want you do, you want your team to win, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Well that and that's all that matters because that's what I was trying to tell Allen over and over again. Even with like complaining about like judge not winning a championship. One player can make a difference over the long haul. But you know, no better example than the Mets were the best team in the National League. He couldn't hit their 9 and 11. So more so far in the month of June and he's been hot. Now I do think eventually it's going to come together where Soto's going to get hot and it's going to help the Mets get hot. I think that's eventually going to happen and he certainly helped them win. I thought was an important game last night. We'll see what they do to salvage at least a split of the four game series tonight. But it can't be about one player and how he performs because he could be hot, hotter than hot and not help the Mets win games. If your quarterback's hot, you're going to win. If you've got a goalie that's hot, you're most likely going to win. If you got a basketball player that's that's going to hit 10 out of 11 three pointers, you're probably going to win the game. But last night he hits two home runs, they win the game. He could have very at least lost the game if they didn't get pitching, if other guys around him didn't hit. So that's the difference. Here's the stat that I wanted to give you. Soto 27th multi home run game, breaking a tie with Jimmy Fox for the most in major league baseball history before turning 27 years old.
Don Hahn
So Jimmy Foxx, he was a hell of a player.
Peter Rosenberg
He is just listen, Soto is not going to put up the gaudy numbers of 60 home runs and drive at 130 RBIs but he's going to get on base all the time. He's going to have a great ops. OPS plus slugging. And eventually it's all going to tie in together and he's going to help this team win. But there's so much that. I'm glad you brought up the whole, how do you like me now? After all those people said he wasn't happy. He's got no swagger, he really wants to be a Yankee. And the idea that it was anything other than just the team winning the damn game, that's all that matters. It's nice that Soto plays well, but listen, I didn't have any thoughts of Soto until all of a sudden he became a free agent. And I wanted Soto here for no other reason but to win. So the idea Soto against judge was stupid on so many different levels, because no matter how good Soto is, he's not judge. So why would it ever be judge against Soto? Judge is the best. You got it? Good, Great, grand, wonderful. But I want. I want a chip. I haven't had one in 36 years. I was a freshman in college. It was pretty.86 was a great year.
Don Hahn
I've heard how you've told me of.
Peter Rosenberg
The glory, but also the glory of being a senior in high school, going to college. I mean, it's all coming together.
Don Hahn
It all came together for you that year.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I'm an 18 year old and I know.
Don Hahn
Were you a Nancy? Were you Nancy together?
Peter Rosenberg
Our second stint, that was.
Don Hahn
Second stint was 18.
Peter Rosenberg
She was at my graduation. That was a big deal. Not as big at college graduation. That was off the charts. But high school at the time, you don't really get anything for being 18 except. Or you get drafted.
Don Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Voting and you can vote. Well, what movie was that where he got the fake ID so he could vote? Oh, in Breakfast Club, it's like, why do you have a fake ID? So I can vote. 21's the year where everything comes. Then that's when you can really. Yeah, that's the thing, because you get your driver's license at least in New Jersey at 17. Some places 16. But in Jersey it was 17, some places 18.
Don Hahn
Mostly 16.
Peter Rosenberg
But there's just something about the line of demarcation, turning 18. It's like, you're a man now. You don't have a curfew when you're 18. Like, you get to do what you want. There's something about coming and going as you please.
Don Hahn
Sure.
Peter Rosenberg
My baseball team is winning a World Series. My. My football team is soon going to win The Super Bowl. I follow sports both for the first time that I can remember. Whereas the mets won in 69. I was only one. So that's what I'm looking for. I want to win a championship. I want Soto to help me win a championship. I don't need entertained by great catches and home runs and losses.
Don Hahn
You want to, you want, you want a chiparoo.
Peter Rosenberg
What do I say about the Robin Ventura grand single? Yeah, one of my game. They lost a series. Who cares. What do I care about? About all these great things. The nd Chavez catch in a game. They ended up losing that game seven. I just want to win. I want to see my team win a championship. Is it so wrong? My baseball team, my football team, they've embarrassed themselves lately. But I still have their last super bowl on my dvr. That's at least something, right? So good on Soto, good on the Mets. We'll see if they can continue it. But both teams win yesterday. But Soto has been absolutely terrific in the month of June. 10 home runs already. Pretty Cal Raleigh, he's been amazing for Seattle, he had 10 as well. So it's, it's a, it's a good way to go. But let's get, let's get a win, baby. Let's keep winning. And now they got Pittsburgh coming up over the weekend. Take care of business there. Get back on trap track. 1-800-919-3776 let's go to Luke. He's right here in Soho. You're on ESPN. New York just swung by. The studio said hello, we would like you Peter. What's up guys? Let my brother and we let anybody in. That's right, that's right. You guys can let me in. But I just wanted. I called a few weeks back. I told you guys, I remember there's not even a panic about Soto. He eventually is going to play to the like you said, back of his baseball card. So, you know, there shouldn't really actually he's playing a little bit better than that, you know, with the home runs and all. But I think our the real focus should once again go to go to one Peter Alonso and how he's kind of progressing, as I would have or anyone should have really thought. And so I think the question is now is, you know, does he take that, that you know, that second part of his deal right for the opt in or should the metal can move him? I mean, I know that's really to think about because there really is no other big slugger on the market right now. But it is a question and I do have one. One other thing for Peter, because I'm staring at my 8 month old right now. Peter, when are you going to give her access to a phone? Because we're thinking when she turns probably 12 or 13. What do you think about that?
Don Hahn
You know, we have not gotten.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don Hahn
We have not. We have not.
Peter Rosenberg
Why are you asking him? He's got an infant. I've got seven and a half years. I'm closer to that decision than.
Don Hahn
But him and I are closer in locating, in range.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you got. Well, she's already. Well, she's what gen Beta or your kids are what. What generation are they? I think we're already a generation apart. So that's what I'm asking.
Don Hahn
Yeah, him and I are the same generation. You're close. What are you thinking? Don't you guys have a lot?
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you, guys. Thanks. Thank you. You know, I'm probably going. I'm going to take the easy way out and I'm going to see how their classmates, parents play it. Because I might give you a number arbitrarily, say 13, but if their friends are all going to have phones at 10 or 11 and they're the only ones without it, then it could become kind of a stigma.
Don Hahn
I know.
Peter Rosenberg
Now they're out.
Don Hahn
I know.
Peter Rosenberg
So I kind of will follow the lead of everybody else and because you want to kind of keep up with the Joneses and also it's important, too, that's the way they'll socialize. I don't want them to be outcasts and not being able to participate in things, not get invited to things.
Don Hahn
Because on the flip side, Don, there could be stuff going on and the kids are on too early and you're like, you know what? We don't think they should be a part of it. And maybe you go, let's weigh this out and see how long we can go until it seems like they're being left out.
Peter Rosenberg
If I don't think they're ready, they're not ready. But again, it's hard. They're seven and a half. So how. How am I know they're going to be at 13? My daughter is ready now. Marco may not be ready at 40. Then how do I deal with that? You know where his sister has it and he doesn't.
Don Hahn
Anthony, how old were you when you got the phone?
Peter Rosenberg
Different time, of course, because now when I was able to get a cell phone, it wasn't a computer in your hand.
Don Hahn
It was still like a regular phone.
Peter Rosenberg
Flip phone, like you know, I was probably in fourth grade.
Don Hahn
Fourth grade, which was very late. And you were on the late side.
Peter Rosenberg
I was on the. I think I was one of the thing. Well, that's like 10, right? Yeah. Again, it was a different. But again, it's such a different time.
Don Hahn
But it's such a different time.
Peter Rosenberg
You pay per text message. What was the point of having it?
Don Hahn
But remember, at that time, Anthony's parents weren't sitting there worried about what he was gonna see on the phone. They weren't worried about his brain being poisoned by an algorithm. He was just to make phone calls. So now to give the kid the phone, it's such a different thing than just communicating with your friends.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Here's the thing. They're already using iPads. They're using iPads at school now. I understand it's different with the algorithm and all that, but the algorithm is already kind of happening just in their. You know, using the switch or using the iPad anyway, so it's not even the computer. More dangerous than a phone sometimes, by the way. It's just the. But there's also. We live in a world now. In a world, it's really the only way to communicate. So if they're. They're in a dangerous situation to be able to have a cell phone, like, I think there is a necessity for it at some point, but, God, I think you gotta be. I can't imagine him having it now. But, yeah, fourth, fifth grade, 10 or 11 does seem like that's.
Don Hahn
I'll tell you. I'll tell you the one thing that I am dealing with right now at five and a half months, her awareness of screens is. It's wild. Like, how quickly. Like if. Like if I am trying to feed her and I just. Like, I want to watch a game and I bring her out there. It is harder to feed her if the screen is on because she is watching the cell phone. She was following a lot at first. Now I'm it. Now I find myself, like, if I really want. Like yesterday, I want to watch evolve. While I was feeding her, I was able to put the phone over here and watch while I'm feeding her. She won't be obsessed with watching it, but I will say, and I'm acknowledging here a bad parenting moment, but it will distract her. Like, the noise will distract her.
Peter Rosenberg
But that's where it starts, is that it can become a babysitter for you. Like, if you need her to stay put while you leave the room, you'll know that she's not gonna go Anywhere not her age. But, you know, when I get to like 2 years old where, you know, this is. It's a tough decision.
Don Hahn
The other day we had our. We had our most successful tummy time, like really got her head up and looking around because Natalie said, oh, what am I doing? Let me face her towards the television. And when she faced her towards the television, she did a better job lifting her head up than she ever had before.
Peter Rosenberg
And the reason I don't, you know, you even did it to me, like with the iPad. It made me feel guilty when Margot grabbed the iPad.
Don Hahn
I'm glad that I'm that kind of.
Peter Rosenberg
Friend, but it's really no different than what we went through with TV when we were younger. Was the same thing. TV sometime acted as the babysitter for us, plopped us in front of a tv. And that was just as bad in the sense of, you know how productive it is. What are we watching?
Don Hahn
Only get to me, the only place it gets different and gets me nervous is when it gets to the swiping of different things immediately.
Peter Rosenberg
That's.
Don Hahn
That's putting a show on, putting on Ms. Rachel and dropping in front of your kid on the iPad. That.
Peter Rosenberg
That is what I worry about.
Don Hahn
The screw.
Peter Rosenberg
I will tell you, when we got the kids the iPads, the first thing we did, restrict YouTube and have you two kids, you will be surprised how bored they get of you two kids. They do a terrific job and. But there's going to be a certain age where it's like these things aren't going to work anymore and they're going to. And then. So you gradually allow them to go to YouTube and check things out. But you're right, there are times you can go to a very, very dicey place. You got to be careful. Jeff in Blue Point, you're on ESPN New York. What's up, Jeff? Hey, guys. So I got the perfect sweet spot.
Don Hahn
For the phone situation, right?
Peter Rosenberg
So when the kids are around fourth grade, eight, nine years old, there's this gizmo watch.
Don Hahn
It's kind of like a smartwatch.
Peter Rosenberg
Declan, my nephew, has only right. So it can only call or text and it only can call or text like pre slug things and the people.
Don Hahn
That you allow them to contact. So you know that's right around the.
Peter Rosenberg
Age they're riding their bike up to the deli or the pizza place. You want to be able call them. Then middle school, everybody's got a phone, but you don't let them download TikTok.
Don Hahn
And Snapchat and that nonsense for another Year or two.
Peter Rosenberg
And then there's another app that you can pay for that restricts like usage per day. It turns off at 4pm or it.
Don Hahn
Turns off, you know, during dinner time.
Peter Rosenberg
And stuff like that. So we founded my house.
Don Hahn
I've got three teenagers.
Peter Rosenberg
That was sort of the sweet spot. No, that's important. I think the last thing you said was very important, too. Where? All right, nine o' clock shut down. You got to be able to wind it down a little bit. You got. Listen, nothing is ever going to absolve a parent from having responsibility. You've got to pay attention to what your kids are doing. Have to. As busy as you are, you have to. As much as that, you know, they got things going on. You got to stay on top of it. There's no cheat code for that. There's never going to be anything that's going to absolve you of the full responsibility of taking care of your business. Go to Chaz. He is in the Upper east side. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, man? Hey, guys. First time caller, long time listener. I actually had one comment on the show. Yeah. So, Don. I like you, Pete. I like you, Anthony. I like you, Alan. I like him, too.
Don Hahn
Oh, okay.
Peter Rosenberg
One thing I'm finding, the one thing I'm finding here in this kind of two plus one format that's going on today is I think when Allen is in a three plus one format that you guys are, he's a little bit too word dominant. And I would like to see better balance between the three plus one with the plus one being Anthony. That's all I wanted to say. All right, duly noted. I'm not mad at you. I want to hear, you know, you're.
Don Hahn
Saying, you're saying that Allen's a ball dominant player.
Peter Rosenberg
He's a. He's a word dominant sportscaster. Yeah. You know, we've only been together since January 6, so it's going to take some time, but we do appreciate it.
Don Hahn
No, no, listen, everyone. And then there's.
Peter Rosenberg
Alan wants you dead. But Peter and I both think no. Basically a point.
Don Hahn
No. Can I tell you the truth? One of the best qualities about Alan is actually his openness to feedback. Yeah, I actually, I, he. Everyone has a tough time getting feedback in the moment, but his, the way Allen receives it and then includes it. And like he really. He's one of those teammates, he wants to be a better teammate all the time. So in other words, I'll tell him STFU every once in a while. I hear what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
I will. I mean, I say this. I listened to him when it was Barton Hahn and, you know, in the two, in a two man formation, it's great. You know, his give and take with Bart was great, but in the current, like three plus one that he's in, I think he's got to be a little less word dominant.
Don Hahn
Well, I like how you frame.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Listen, the way you've handled this. Yes.
Don Hahn
You want to. Are you available to jump on a call next week?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I know you're on the Upper east side, but can you swing by the Beach Bash?
Don Hahn
If you feel really strongly, just go ahead and show up tomorrow and have a chat. Thanks, dude.
Peter Rosenberg
I get the punch in the face, right? No, no, no. We'll give you a freshie. We'll hold them down. What'd you. What's your nick point? Okay. Oh, just getting back to, I mean, I don't know, maybe it's just overkill at this point about how, you know, you guys are pointing out that. All right, so the option of any coach is better than tips. And so I would like to maybe invert that a little bit and just say that, you know, they had reached, I guess they had come to their decision that they would rather take a shot on the unknown than what was known with tips. And so I don't know if that's, you know, but it's a shot, man. Because you're talking about what you had bird in the hand, right, Is a conference final appearance. Never got a second year of Katt and Brunson together. It's funny how we were just talking about chemistry with the three of us on this show. Katt and Brunson had one year together, essentially, and also a regular season in which Mitchell Robinson missed a ton of time. They were trying to adjust without really having a bench. Now, you could say maybe they had a bench and didn't know it. But, you know, you lost Hartenstein, you lost Divincenzo. A lot of leadership went outside the room, and yet they still won 50, more than 50 games, three consecutive years and came within two wins of going to the finals. So, you know, you have that and now the unknown of, yeah, maybe you do take the next step, but there's a chance maybe you don't. And then what are we going to do if we're sitting here a year from now talking about a Knicks team that got bounced in the first round or, God forbid, didn't make the playoffs? And the Rangers were just saying that the other day, 1-800-9193776 more of your calls and of course we've got an EN coming up at 6 o' clock and then Mets baseball at 6 right here on ESPN. The Family Feud thing's gonna happen. So we're excited about that. Should be a lot of fun. So definitely swing by. It'll be nice. Like, it's been 100 degrees and I don't mind it hot. But like today it was like in the mid-70s. I'm like, this is. This is doable, man. This is nice. Got the alpha picked out. It's all good.
Don Hahn
So I have first take tomorrow, right? So I'm gonna be wearing a suit. And then my plan is, Don, I'm thinking I change into like, am I going to change it to like, jeans and a sweatshirt? Like, what's that? What. What is the appropriate. What are they saying for temp tomorrow?
Peter Rosenberg
Like, high of high of 69. So I was looking. What did he say? He said Hi.
Don Hahn
No, no, 69, bro.
Peter Rosenberg
I know.
Don Hahn
And high.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God. Really?
Don Hahn
What?
Peter Rosenberg
I swear to God, sometimes I'm thinking it's My, it's my sophomore year in high school. I tried to save it. You know what? Well, save what? It's going to be a high as 69. It was like Beavis and Butthead. Entertain me clowns. All right, here is the hourly temps. So we're going to get there around noon. 68 and 69. 69. 68, 69, 69. So it's all going to be around like really high 60s.
Don Hahn
But really maybe. But maybe a breeze too, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Easterly wind at 15 mph. So it's going to be. I don't know if I'm gonna be able to wear my outfit. My outfit is. Got shorts. That's the. What. What's gonna happen? And then there's gonna be showers, but it'll be in the 8 o' clock hour. They'll be already breaking the set by then.
Don Hahn
So what's again you're gonna go jeans? I mean shorts, long sleeve.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, my outfit. You remember what I wore last year?
Don Hahn
Is that bananas Banana.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a similar outfit, but just a different pattern.
Don Hahn
So you're wearing like thin shorts and at 69 degrees.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Anthony, what do you think you'll do at that temp?
Peter Rosenberg
Probably. I got. Now I got the ESPN New York polo ready to go and I got the jeans.
Don Hahn
There's a lot, by the way, a lot of people around this place where the, the pants and polo, it's like, it's like a uniform. Do they have to. Does everyone have to wear?
Peter Rosenberg
Some people do, yes. You're not a polo guy?
Don Hahn
Me?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I occasionally wear a polo. I wore. I have a grave. That gray polo one that you complimented.
Peter Rosenberg
Recently, by the way. That might be cold for me. Like that might be. Like I might.
Don Hahn
No, I think.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't.
Don Hahn
What do you think, Jacob? Jacob's black. He's airing on long pants, long sleeve. Guarantee it.
Peter Rosenberg
I might go long sleeve shorts though, yet. I was considering that.
Don Hahn
Like do I wear my fatigue shorts that I'm wearing right now, but throw on like a little sweatshirt with it, you know, something like that.
Peter Rosenberg
See, my main problem is I'm always cold up top the bottom. I don't care. You, you can breeze straight through it.
Don Hahn
By the way, I can wear shorts in the winter. Yeah, it's just up top.
Peter Rosenberg
Now keep this in mind. When the show starts, it'll be 69, 82% humidity. Okay. I love my mom. Get the spiked AIDS ready. I love my mom to death. Kids call my mom to say goodnight. And my mom being a typical 83 year old oh, it was muggy today, right, Jaylen? Like my daughter's gonna have any opinion on the mugginess of the day. God love her, but you gotta come with something different than boy, it was hot today.
Don Hahn
And also, I don't think kids know muggy.
Peter Rosenberg
Kids don't care about weather. They just want to make sure it doesn't rain.
Don Hahn
By the way, I got news for you. I don't know if Natalie would know the word muggy, but you. I know, muggy, right? But like Natalie's from a foreign household. No one was saying muggy.
Peter Rosenberg
But humid would be more accurate. But still wouldn't be helpful. 7 year olds don't know humidity, you know.
Don Hahn
Is it hot or cold?
Peter Rosenberg
Boy, Marco, how was your day? Boy, the dew point was really high today.
Don Hahn
Chance of precipitation. Plus, you gotta keep in mind the wind chill. Anyways, it's gonna be really nice. I like this news because here's the thing. I know it's called the Beach Bash. We're not going swimming in the ocean. So it being 98 degrees does no one any good. You know what we're doing about it?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't want 98. But you also want to be comfortable.
Don Hahn
But don't you think like basically 70 degrees?
Peter Rosenberg
But isn't that the temperature in your house?
Don Hahn
Well, that's what I'm saying. So like, you can actually wear whatever you want. If you're a shorts person, wear shorts. If you're a jeans person, wear jeans.
Peter Rosenberg
See, that's the great point, is that you know the temperature in my house. Well, Nancy likes to keep it cold. But even if the temperatures of house like 67 degrees, I'm not wearing a jacket in the house. I got my. I got my gym shorts and T shirt on and I'm not cold. So let's get to work, everybody. Come on, get down there. If you've got the free time and you don't go down to the Beach Bash, what's wrong with you? It is such a good time. And it's free. You're not paying to get in there, right?
Don Hahn
No one's paying to get in there. Listen, by the way, I just want everyone to know I'm getting drunk on the air tomorrow. I might. I might pass out right through a table.
Peter Rosenberg
And Gary from Elite has hooked us all up, including Allen. I got him to get a car for Allen. That's a game changer for him. The last two days of the draft.
Don Hahn
You did that?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Cause he lives on the surface of the soil.
Don Hahn
But at last we left it. Alan Felt bad even asking Broadway Elite for a ride.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but that's why. But you said, man, Gary reached out to me.
Don Hahn
What about Alan?
Peter Rosenberg
Does Alan need a car? And I'm like, that's why he's great. So I, you know, I made. I made the hookup, and Alan took care of it.
Don Hahn
The rest he's got to make sure Alan know. And Alan's a classy gentleman. I'm sure he knows this, but you got to bring a little case in the pocket tip.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. You don't say, thanks for the good job. No.
Don Hahn
You got to give him a nice tip.
Peter Rosenberg
It's just like Goodfellas, you know, going through.
Don Hahn
Yeah, a little. What'd you say, Anthony?
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe a thank you text.
Don Hahn
You got to do more than a thank you text.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, way more. Let's go to Stephen. He's out in Lakewood. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Stephen? Hey, guys. How are you? Thank you for taking the call. No, you're not. For. You're not far from Lake Como, right? You could swing by. No. Let's see. No, maybe it's meant to. The call goes if the Cocos men may go stop by. All right, thank you. I'm going to tell you guys who's going to be the next coach for the New York Knicks. Let me first start by saying I'm not a fan of Tom Thibodeau. I think think the main reason is he's just stubborn. And that was a big reason why. Why the players didn't like him. And that's a big reason. What the minutes showed when he didn't have the minutes for the players that they didn't want to. That the players didn't want. The players didn't want to play for Faith, but they don't want to play for him. But the next coach is going to be, I think, Rick Bronson. Because they're making such a spectacle about going after all these coaches, which they know they're not going to get. I don't think that's the way it's usually done. Other times when they fire a coach, they go ask every other coach. They're not going to ask if Spolster is available, if Jason Kidd is available. They're not going to go ask all these guys. I think they're making a diversion to try to push everyone aside to make it look like they're looking for a coach. But they got their coach. Right. But why not act with conviction, Steven? Like, if they wanted Rick Brunson to be the coach Then the day they fire Tibbs, they introduce Brunson as the head coach and say, this is our pivot. This is our guy. If they go to Rick Brunson now, after asking everybody and their mother, they want to coach the team, it sounds like they're desperate and they're settling. Why would you want to do that? I don't know how it would have looked if they would have gone to Jalen Brunson's father the day after the fire. Thibodeau. It would just look very bad. But why would it look that? You think it would look better if they waited and went to Rick now? They tried. They said, listen, we tried to get everyone out there. We tried to get Jason Kidd, we tried to get all these guys, but we couldn't get anybody.
Don Hahn
I will say your phone's about gonna hang up, but I will say this. I don't agree. And anytime anyone's brought up the Rick Brunson thing, I think it's the most preposterous thing I've ever heard.
Peter Rosenberg
Right?
Don Hahn
I will say this, though. Tell me if you feel me on this. The only way they could have gotten there would be if, like, it was a complete disaster and everything failed. Is there a world in which you go there because you're like, nothing worked out well, and there's some plausible reasons we could do this? I don't think that would happen, but this would be the only way you could.
Peter Rosenberg
You still have to sell. Even though I don't think MSG cares that much about the public's perception, they want to go with who they think the best coach is. But I do think you have to have a little PR involved. Don't you want to hire somebody and at least give out the vibe that this guy was on your list all along? That, yeah, we did kick the tires on some other coaches. But you know what? This is the guy that we had targeted. We wanted to do our due diligence and see if there were certain other coaches available, but Rick Brunson is our guy. Like, you gotta sell that. Not, hey, we've tried everybody, and we had to settle for this. You never wanna have the settle press conference, right? We kicked out every door, and we had to settle for Rick. He just happened to be Brunson's dad. So, no, I. I think they wouldn't play great. But don't you wanna at least give the semblance of, hey, we had a list of five coaches and we found our guy. Now, we had a list of 30 coaches and we went with number 31. That makes you look worse. If it was gonna be Rick Brunson all along, Peter, then have that be the conviction. This is the guy. We love him. We fire Tibbs because we want him to be the guy that's better than we settled on somebody.
Don Hahn
No. No, it's not great. I guess you're right. It just would have sounded so nuts to me if they'd be like, big move. We got rid of Tibbs.
Peter Rosenberg
We're firing a guy that took you to the conference finals for the first time in 25 years. Fair. Let's go to Sam in New Jersey. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Sam? Hey, Don. Hey, Peter. How are you guys today? Good. Two quick points, Don. First callers like that last one. I don't mean to make fun of your. Your callers, Don, but what. What was he saying? Even Rick Brunson is not going to be the next coach. I wouldn't. It's going to be either Mike Brown, James Borrego, or Taylor Jenkins. Rick Brunson doesn't have experience. They're not going to put him as a head coach. I think James Bo would do very well, actually. He's won two titles as an assistant under Popovich, apparently. They're interviewing him today. And, Don, I just wanted to say one other thing. I'm really proud of your brother. He did something spectacular today. I really hope you. I mean, I'm sure you're proud of him, too, but I used to listen to his show when he was one guy a week. One hour. And he's killed it. Absolutely killed it. No, that's what. That's why I wanted to have him on. And we gave him an hour, and that's what makes me so proud. In case you missed it, my brother David legreco was in studio for the first hour as they made the announcement today that starting July 1st, he's gonna have his own channel. Pro Wrestling Nation 24 7. 24 7. And my brother started out doing one show a week on a Tuesday at 2, and people jobber, bro. And I remember having conversations with him like, yeah, we're trying to get three days a week. And then he would get three days. We're trying to go. We're trying to get Monday through Friday. And then they added weekend shows, and then. And now he's got his own channel. Hey, you know, let me just put. Let me put that in a picture. Chris Russo got his own channel. Okay. Bruce Springsteen has his own channel.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Andy Cohen, you know, not Nobodies. And he did it all himself.
Don Hahn

Don Hahn
We never do it ever.
Peter Rosenberg
But you know what?
Don Hahn
And we got to be smart. But it would be fun if like maybe during the Feud game, it was like a bit of a drinking game as well. Rick will be tanked by the time Family Feud starts.
Peter Rosenberg
I think he'll be tanked by the. The time you show up. What time do you think you're going to get there?
Don Hahn
Well, I'm doing first take, right. So realistically I'm going to get there by 1:30.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. He's gone, he's damaged. I've got no on air responsibility other than the Feud. And as you said, that would be entertaining right now.
Don Hahn
Although I will. I got to tell you, I had the best conversation with John Winthrop. Best conversation I've ever had with management with regard to this event.
Peter Rosenberg
John was in a good mood today. I enjoyed. I enjoyed John's company today.
Don Hahn
So. So here's my favorite thing about what he said.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don Hahn
We were chatting about tomorrow and he was like, I just do your best to hustle to get there. I said of course, don't worry, I'm a hustle. And I said, I said so are you just like of the mindset of like whatever combinations, whatever. He was like, whatever is going to be fun to entertain the people there. No serious radio tomorrow. It is literally put it on for the people that and I. He said, he said if the p. And I'll just lift it all up for you. He said if the people listening on the radio hear it and go this isn't the best sounding thing but it sounds fun. I wish I was there. That's all he's going for. I said, I respect the hell out.
Peter Rosenberg
Of, you know what I like. And I didn't like it. I'll be honest is I was a little taken aback that they weren't like, up our back leading into this. Usually going into the beach bash, there's a lot of meetings, conversation, and there wasn't any of that this year. And my first knee jerk reaction was like, what's going on? But then I realized they actually, for the first time in the 24 years I've been working here, trust us that we're gonna put on a good show. Because we do every year at the beach bash. It's always fun. So instead of like climbing our backs on everything, like, what are you gonna do here? What are you gonna do there? They trust us now. They might say after, like an animal house, hey, you blanked up. You trusted us. But even that, a train wreck can be interesting to watch.
Don Hahn
But I think it's also, it's trust. And I think it's also John having the right perspective on what the event is. You know, I've always been saying, let's just have fun up there. It's so awkward to do a serious radio show with a thousand people staring at you while Richard from Manhattan calls up and you talk about what? It doesn't make sense. And by the way, Don, it's the dead of summer. The purpose is for people to want to come out. So tomorrow, if people. If people are just getting drunk, having a good time, talking trash with each other, laughing and having fun, that's what it's about.
Peter Rosenberg
To me, it's like the gag reel at the end of a movie, like during the credits, like when.
Don Hahn
Yeah, I know.
Peter Rosenberg
It's just fun watching other people have fun.
Don Hahn
Oh, exactly. You know, that's what I think tomorrow's about, having a great time. So I liked hearing that approach from John. I've always hated. If you could go back if yes was still with us, and they could pull up video of us having serious, dead serious mid baseball season conversation during the beach bash, you would see the look of. And then they'll show the crowd and people are just staring off into space and I'm going, why are we. We're so we. I know it's a radio show. I know we have more audience listening. And if we're at like a small bar, I get it. Just worry about the radio. Don't worry about the people in front of you. We're not at a small bar. We're at a large event with lots of people. You gotta put on the show for the people that are there. So you gotta come out tomorrow.
Peter Rosenberg
Kimball's coming out. No, my sensei.
Don Hahn
Yes, Kimball's coming out.
Peter Rosenberg
I was the only one that showed up today. I got a. I got a private workout today. It was great.
Don Hahn
Are you serious?
Peter Rosenberg
It was awesome. I love that man.
Don Hahn
My boy Mark, AKA Top Shelf Premium, who has a wonderful store down the street called vintage on 9th. It used to be called vintage on 1st, but it was in Hoboken. He moved it down the shore. 903 Main street in Belmar. He has a great vintage shop. And in fact, we're gonna be doing a giveaway for a gift certificate.
Peter Rosenberg
Vintage shop for what?
Don Hahn
Vintage clothing. Oh, yeah, he has a great vintage shop. He's gonna be there. We're doing a giveaway for a gift certificate for his store tomorrow. In fact, I think the winner when we give it away. I'm getting getting to a little early when we give away the gift certificate to his shop. The second we finish up, I'm stopping by his shop to join the person on their shopping spree real quick.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, cool.
Don Hahn
So like this, we're gonna do a lot of fun stuff tomorrow, man. It's gonna be a special day. And I hope that we get, you know, we meet some new people we've never met before. Some of our loyalists who came with us.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
You know what I mean? So we're grateful to everybody who's on this initial run of our journey. Our first beach bash in the new era.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Well, Griffin in Connecticut. Be there. You're on ESPN New York. What are you doing tomorrow, Griff? I will be listening to you guys live. No, no, no, no, no, no, no. I can't get there because I'm really basically been home alone. My parents are. They went on vacation to Ireland.
Don Hahn
This is like them too. This is like the movie Home Alone, essentially, is what you're well.
Peter Rosenberg
Or what he's doing is having his own beach bash back at the house because he's got the home by.
Don Hahn
What do you think it's closer, Don, if you were to guess, is it closer to Home Alone or business that.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't make me answer that. Griffin wouldn't like the answer. I think it's close. Get away. I don't even know what it's called now. You were right about that. Nobody cared about Roku. What do you got? I think Peter said it perfectly. And by the way, Peter, you're going to see the new studio tomorrow for first take.
Don Hahn
That's right. Griffin, what you would do you work there. Unbelievable. I am going to see the new.
Peter Rosenberg
I just, I just know that it's that they're in a new studio.
Don Hahn
Yeah, the big move. This is the, this is the first full week of first take at the studio.
Peter Rosenberg
What I wanted to talk about is. I think you said it perfectly, Peter, with Mike Michael Malone. When I saw that Tom Thibodeau got fired, I thought the Knicks right away was going to interview Michael Mike Malone and try to bring him in. They saw, they saw Denver fired him. We were all shocked when Denver let him go. There's a championship caliber coach out there. They're. They're going to go after him. No, they're trying to go after these coaches basically that are already on a team. Nico Harrison we know is cuckoo because he fight. We know he's a little cuckoo because he traded Luka Dontich, but he's not that cuckoo to let his coach just walk. So I feel like they should have try to say, okay, we'll try to go after Jason. Give like you said, Don. And if we can't bring back Tom Thibodeau because this is like, this is like mute musical chairs. And right now nobody stand, nobody's sitting, everybody standing. The only thing that we can do is read the tea leaves. So the fact that they haven't even interviewed Mark, Mark Malone, Michael Malone is because.
Don Hahn
Or Carl Malone for that matter.
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe for the same reason they let Tibbs go. Remember he left Denver under very strange circumstances. So you wonder, is there a reputation that players don't want to play for him either? It's a players league, guys. So they're going to want to bring in coaches the players want to play for. And if you don't get interviewed at this point, it's probably because the players have a say and it's a negative one about you. Thanks for listening to my Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
