Game time is brought to you by Tullimore Dew Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, boys, oh yeah, it's jolly time.
Alan Hahn
It's Tully time.
Peter Rosenberg
The Mets continue their series with the Braves coverage immediately following us on 880 at 6:30 and Game 2 of the Yankees Red Series in Cincinnati at 7:10 Tullamore Dew, the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Iris whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew or try the new Tullamore Dew Honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. So you felt that Stearns revealed some things there.
Michael Kay
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
What did you take from that?
Michael Kay
Yeah, I mean he I love the fact that without having to be prompted, he said there's, you know, usually when a good team like this goes through a struggle, there's several things that are going wrong. A lot of times a GM does that just sort of say like it's not one thing and then doesn't say anything. He doesn't want to tell you what it is. He went right ahead and told you. And it's stuff we kind of already knew. First things first, he's pointing to his starting pitching has not been as good as it's supposed to be at the start of the season. Now, he also is quick to point out that two guys that you expected to be main starters for you have not pitched yet for you and you lost Senga. So you've been really your starting pitching, to be fair, isn't what you thought it would be.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Michael Kay
You're pitching guys you normally weren't going to be pitching. He pointed to the bottom of the order, which we all know. That's the most Captain Obvious of them. All, right. That it has to be better, that the numbers haven't been there and that has hurt them. But when he was asked about the trade deadline that's coming up and if he anticipates any lineup changes once we are on the other side of it, his response wasn't like a typical one that you would get from a GM doesn't want to reveal anything, he said, I don't know yet. I don't know yet. That to me is saying to the clubhouse, you got a couple of weeks. That's what he's saying here. You got a couple of weeks. Yeah, because he told you they expect this to be a high powered offense. They built a team, they expect to score runs and they don't like what they're seeing at the bottom of the order. And he's letting the bottom of the order know you got a couple of weeks and if it doesn't get better, we are going to make changes. Don't you. I mean, again, I'm a reporter. I got my notebook out, I'm writing down everything he's saying. That's my story. They are on notice right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. And now the question is, you know, the needs because you talk about the starting pitching and listen, you lose Senga, you got Montas coming back tonight, but he hasn't pitched all year. Mania, same thing. All right, You've got guys that are hurt and maybe some guys that are also coming back to the pack a little bit now.
Michael Kay
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Clay Holmes is going to, is going to eventually start to have to.
Michael Kay
Well, you think the fatigue scaled down.
Peter Rosenberg
Because he was stretched out from a close now a starting pitcher. So they were, you know, but you look at last night, all right, Blackburn wasn't good. But you lost three, two like you survived it. I'm sorry. This should be an offense that if your pitching gives up three runs, you should win the game.
Michael Kay
Should win the game. They're, they're that good.
Alan Hahn
I don't care.
Peter Rosenberg
And listen, I know that Atlanta's got good pitchers and Strider's going today, but he's also 2 and 5 of the 3.89 earner on average. I mean he's got the back of his baseball card says otherwise, but they're untouchable.
Michael Kay
They played him last week, right, didn't they, Strider last week.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Kay
And then he shut him down.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I mean the Mets got swept and they've lost all four games against Atlanta. And this was supposed to be the big stretch, right? 10 games they're going to play the.
Michael Kay
Rival opponents rival, finish things off.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, seven games against the Braves, three against Philadelphia and so far we've got three games left. They've won one of them. Like that's a problem.
Michael Kay
Yes.
Alan Hahn
Now you could you win the last three, Right. You have a markedly different feeling, of course. I mean, you end up, you're back.
Peter Rosenberg
At first, you might be back in.
Alan Hahn
First, Philadelphia, you might be back at first place. Atlanta will have gained nothing. And when it's all said and done, you finished his 10 game stretch 4 and 6. It ends up being not that bad. This moment though is a nightmare again.
Peter Rosenberg
Philadelphia lost eight of nine and they got up from it. Let's see if the Mets get up from that and how much damage is done while they do it. Because once upon a time they had a five game lead on Philadelphia and now they're behind them in the division and now they could find themselves, if they're not careful, start to fall apart as far as being able to stay in a playoff race here or at least get home games in the postseason. Because if you're not the first wild card, that means you're on the road for a three game series, trying to advance into the divisional round. You're getting nothing from the bottom of your order, you're getting nothing from your kids. Right. Mauricio got called up. He's batting a buck 80. Beatty, it's time to really start to consider, is he a Major League baseball player? Acuna has already been sent down. Francisco Alvarez has been sent down.
Michael Kay
Nobody asked him about Alvarez. I was curious to see if he had anything to say about.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know that I don't have the sound of my page. I'm sure something must have been addressed.
Michael Kay
I would imagine.
Peter Rosenberg
You set him down. What else do you need to say?
Michael Kay
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you know. Well, I mean, you'd want to know.
Michael Kay
What he thinks of what, what he needs to work on, what they want to work on.
Peter Rosenberg
He's got to hit, you know, he just has to hit.
Michael Kay
There's got to be something a little more specific.
Peter Rosenberg
I know, but. Hey, you.
Michael Kay
How about hit that now?
Alan Hahn
Swing that bet.
Peter Rosenberg
Hit that ball.
Michael Kay
How about you? How about you try this? How about hit the ball this time?
Alan Hahn
Hey, yo, yo. Do the right thing. Make contact.
Peter Rosenberg
And the guy that we're all asking to be the starting catcher now, Terence, well, he's got one home run, 13 RBIs. He's betting 221. So he's not tearing the COVID off the ball either. Now, Lindor, Nimo, Soto, Alonso, they're all going to be fine. I know Alonzo is struggling right now, but he carried this team when Soto was lost. And we know how hot Lindor can get, but it's really about the bottom of this order. And none of the kids, it's not happening with them right now. Now, maybe it's just a blip on the radar screen Alan talks about. Well, does the. Do the Yankees look like a champion? Do the Mets look like a champion? But you take a look around Major League Baseball, who looks like a champion? The Dodgers look like a champion. I get it. They're the defending champions, right? And they're in first place. In their division, but they only got a three and a half game lead on the Giants. And oh, by the way, the Giants, they won a couple in a row, but they've only won four of their last six. San Diego's only lost four of their last six. Won four, last six. So they're struggling a bit right now too. The Cubs have played.500 ball. They've lost two in a row. They're in first place. Like I said, Philadelphia is just coming off losing eight of nine. You know, even Detroit's played.500 baseball over the last.
Michael Kay
So is this parody? Is this parody? Looks like it.
Peter Rosenberg
This is parody.
Michael Kay
Everybody goes through a slump. Everybody goes through a run.
Peter Rosenberg
That's going to be baseball, Susan. But unfortunately we don't have the luxury of saying I'll see you in October. We look at it daily. You can be concerned, but can the Mets get up from mature? They got up from it last year. All right, so your complaints about the Yankees are warranted because we've seen their issues creep up in the postseason with the lack of offense. And it is strange how this team with all of the offensive ability goes to one of the best hitting ballparks in baseball and scores one lousy run off a judge home run. I get it. But the Yankees also have a two game lead in the division. I don't think the Rays are catching them. The Rays are actually playing very well. And yet the Yankees, who have only won three of their last 10, still have a two game lead. Red Sox just traded their best pitcher. A best player. Toronto. Toronto. I'll believe it when I see it. They were hot. Now all of a sudden they're four and six in their last ten. Red Sox have lost three in a row. Orioles are in last place. They're ten games under.500.
Michael Kay
I get it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yankees are going to be okay. Their problems are something more broad.
Michael Kay
Can't you watch See again and I'll push back on the watch it every day thing. Like can't you. So you're watching it to see what needs to improve. And anybody that watches every day, you. You have a good feel for what needs to improve. A baseball fan that watches their team every game. You have a good feel about the obvious parts of it, right? All the things that Stern said about the Mets. We've heard from every fan. We've heard it from the fans. Some games we've had the lead, we can't close it out. Right. Bullpen issues, starters haven't given us length. Right. Because you've had injuries and then it's the bottom of the order has been bad. Very obvious because we've seen it. Bottom of the older guys. They are not producing. So that's obvious. For the Yankees, it's not about panic and all the season, like all is lost. It's more about watching the team and seeing the issues that have crept up to bite them last year and in years past.
Alan Hahn
Most of the past five or six years.
Michael Kay
Yeah. And it seems to be the same things that come back. Does it mean that they're not gonna make playoffs? That's not what I'm saying. But it's still. I'm watching my team every day and I'm saying to myself this keeps coming up, this keeps happening. How. What are they going to do to fix it?
Peter Rosenberg
Let me, let me, let me give you something to be concerned about. I have more faith that David Stearns will be open to making a bunch of moves than I think Cashman will. I agree because I think Cashmere sometimes gets stubborn. It's going to turn around. They're going to be fine. The numbers tell us like they won't send Volpe down. I don't think because it'll be. Believe me, he's going to be fine. They're going to find numbers yesterday.
Michael Kay
Don, he looks.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Kay
If you watch them and you heard the concern in Paul o' Neill's voice, the most jovial broadcaster the Yankees have, the concern in his voice during one particular at bat was all I needed to hear. That said, this kid definitely needs a break. He's got to feel good about himself. They've got to do right by him. And if they don't, that's being stubborn.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's also stubborn in holding on the prospects and Cashman holds on the prospects like Charlton Heston held onto a rifle. He doesn't want my cold, dead hands. He doesn't want to give them up. Like where I think Sterns realize is this is a big season. You went out got Soto for a reason. I know it's a long burn. It's only one year of 15 year contract but Mets are going to look bad if they go from two wins away from the World Series, add one of the best players in baseball and don't make the playoffs. I think he might be a little bit more open to making a move.
Michael Kay
Do they?
Peter Rosenberg
Than Cashman will.
Michael Kay
Now I. We were wondering like I was saying this like it drives me crazy how fans get on Volpe, a young player who does all he says and does all the right things. He's a good Kid, you know, even Buster only this morning said the same thing, like, I couldn't understand why there's so much vitriol for this guy. So he's asking around, is the presence of George Lombard, is that, is that the thing that fans are already seeing the future and saying he should be the shortstop? He was so good in spring training. He's. The kid's like, he's like 19 years old, he's not ready for the majors yet.
Peter Rosenberg
That's not what you wanted.
Michael Kay
But this feeling of, let's get this kid up here. Because we know the immediacy of fans. Once they fall in love with the next guy, you're out. They can't wait till you, they want you to fail because they want this guy to take your place. And I have a feeling that might be what's going on here is you're getting a little bit of that with, well, we've got this kid and he's a can't miss prospect and he could play short and so why don't they just trade Volpe for a bag of balls and let this kid come up? They want to ruin another kid before he's ready.
Peter Rosenberg
But you can't worry about what the fans think. It's what Cashman thinks. And he believes in his players. Believe stubbornly. You saw how it got handled with Sanchez all those years. Even lemayu is still here. You know, was he going to address second base or is he going to watch? Hard to watch.
Michael Kay
Lemayhu, man, it's so hard. I feel terrible. This guy was a great player and a great hitter. It is gone.
Peter Rosenberg
But when he's given contract extensions, he wants to see him through. I just think the Mets might be more apt and willing to make a move than Cashman will be. But we'll see.
Alan Hahn
We still have a few weeks. You know, you could say about players on both of these teams, about some of them. At least tell me if you agree. They don't know what the bleep they're doing. Am I right or am I right?
Michael Kay
Hey, listen, sometimes you need to be unfiltered.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Danny on Long Island. You're on. Don Hanna, Rosenberg. What's up, man? Danny.
Caller Danny
Boys, I want to tell you about my weekend, but first of all, you know, I've been saying for two weeks, let's get Mania back with Senga back and Peterson, and that's a really good 1, 2, 3, and we'll settle Larry down. Uncle Steve will make some trades and I wasn't aware that Manoya was getting a shot till you set it down. And for a minute, I was going to pull my car into an abutment on a sudden state park. My blood ran cold when you said that, because you know that. Does that ever end well? You know, he has something. He has a bone chip floating in his elbow. We gave him a cortisone shot.
Alan Hahn
Does that ever.
Caller Danny
Did that ever, like, pop up a week later saying, oh, he's back, no problem.
Michael Kay
Whatever happened to that bone ship? Yeah, no, but it'll pop out. Said, you'll get him next week.
Peter Rosenberg
But if you're not going to get the bodies out of there, that means that they might end up causing pain at the worst possible time. Like, he comes back and he's great, and all of a sudden he's pitching game one of a playoff, and now he can't go because he's in too much, much pain.
Alan Hahn
Let me.
Caller Danny
Let me just throw this scenario at you, because we don't. We share everything here on the show. So my youngest lad tells me last Thursday, he's starting in Greenville, the last start of his college summer league. I'm starting against Greenville. Okay.
Alan Hahn
All right.
Caller Danny
I go to the schedule. I go to the schedule. Here's the field listed. I punch it up. Greenville, South Carolina. I take two days off. I buy airline tickets. I fly down. I rent the car. I drive two hours from Charlotte to Greenville, South Carolina. As I'm walking up to the state, I go. This is a large crowd here. I'm in Greenville, South Carolina, and my son is playing in Greenville, North Carolina.
Alan Hahn
No, no, no, no.
Caller Danny
I showed. I show my phone where I screenshot of the schedule to the security guard. He said, this is the right field. You're at the field. They listed. They listed the wrong field. They gave me a free ticket and a coupon for free food. They felt so bad for me.
Caller Robert
I walked it.
Caller Danny
I walked inside, got a beautiful pulled pork nacho platter, walked back to my car, where the attendant gave me my money back. Try that in New York. Mother gave me my money back. Cash. I pay for a parking spot, gave me my money back. He said. He said, where are you going? I explained to what happened, took his role, gave him my 20, drove to the hotel, had four old fashions at the bar. Watch the game on my phone.
Alan Hahn
Oh, all right.
Michael Kay
No.
Caller Danny
Well, it's not watching in person, not at all. But I mean, can you imagine the moment in my life when the guy said, they listed the wrong stadium?
Peter Rosenberg
That's five hours away.
Caller Danny
Can I get the person who did that, please?
Alan Hahn
Really have a couple that is. I'm not gonna lie. That is a tough one. No matter how you. That is tough.
Michael Kay
Make the effort to do all that.
Alan Hahn
Like, likely Goldberg's tie that I'm staring at right now. That is just a tough situation.
Caller Danny
Boys, stay warm. I just took a five mile walk in the Massapequa Preserve undercover with lots of water. It is hot out.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you. I have nerve endings. I could tell how hot it is.
Alan Hahn
Your body's still physically working at this moment, is what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you.
Alan Hahn
No, that is terrible. The only remote comp I have is, like, a year ago when I was trying to come home from Cleveland, and I got to the airport, and they couldn't figure out my ticket. And she's like, I don't know why it's not coming up. And I'm like, neither do I. I have to go home. My wife is a few months pregnant. It's my first time leaving. She's not doing great. I got to go back. She kept looking at it, and she went, you flight is tomorrow. And I said, no, no, no, my flight is today. And my flight from last night was canceled. And you guys offered me different date, different flights, and I chose this flight. She's like, yeah, but you chose the flight that's tomorrow. And I'm like, but shouldn't they have said with, like, big, bold font, you're changing dates altogether? And I walked outside, and I swear, one solitary tear started to form as I was like, I haven't.
Michael Kay
I have one question, though, about Danny.
Alan Hahn
Go ahead. By the way, I've got lots.
Michael Kay
Well, but just this particular story, because we do the same chase Zach around the country when he's, you know, playing. Don't you want to, like, let him know, hey, I'm coming to the game. I'll see you in South Carolina. To which he would say, no, no, dad, it's in North Carolina.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I'll see at the game.
Michael Kay
But, like, you're not gonna. At least, like, not if.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, why would you think that the schedule would be wrong? Why would you want to keep going.
Michael Kay
To the right schedule as you guys in South Carolina? I'll be like, I would definitely. If you're leaving Long island to go to South Carolina, it just. I don't know. We've done that with Zach. Like, you always do that. Just not check, but you just say it.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. Just that I don't know if you have to confirm. This is a good one from Robert in Manhattan. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Robert? Rob, Is he sleeping?
Michael Kay
Oh, no.
Alan Hahn
Keep him here.
Peter Rosenberg
Louder, please.
Alan Hahn
Can you pot him up?
Peter Rosenberg
Rever pa. That's good. All right, I'm going to try to wake him up. Ready? Oh, God. Charge that.
Michael Kay
Oh, no. Oh, no. Robert.
Peter Rosenberg
We're going to find out. Robert in Manhattan.
Michael Kay
Have a good nap. Have a good nap.
Peter Rosenberg
It's whenever we get a good call, they drop or they fall asleep.
Michael Kay
Our show.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Should we be worried? Was this a bad sign?
Peter Rosenberg
Was this.
Alan Hahn
Is this. No. Is this the moment?
Michael Kay
This, this moment?
Alan Hahn
Is this the moment?
Peter Rosenberg
Maybe it's for me, tomorrow it might be. No, but again, because I think most of our listeners are high.
Alan Hahn
It goes with falling asleep.
Peter Rosenberg
He might have just.
Alan Hahn
We are the official show. There's the tie, by the way.
Michael Kay
I mean, we were audio ambient.
Peter Rosenberg
Apparently he's a Met fan.
Alan Hahn
Check. Lee is wearing a checkered orange and white shirt and then a stripe, a diagonally striped blue and orange tie. But he's been doing this thing recently. Like, is that a.
Michael Kay
This is 70s. It's 70s trial wide tie.
Peter Rosenberg
Lee, I mean, he's a Red Sox fan, but those are, those are big Mets. If Robert didn't pass out or pass away.
Michael Kay
Oh, my God, no.
Peter Rosenberg
You want to know which commissioners is happier with their final. Like Gary Bettman with. With oilers Panthers for second.
Alan Hahn
No, no. It has to end up being the NBA.
Peter Rosenberg
I.
Alan Hahn
Here's the NBA got the huge number in game seven, though. At least they got almost 17 million.
Peter Rosenberg
But here's where I disagree from a long term standpoint is that, remember the checks already cashed on the TV networks. All right?
Michael Kay
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
So, yeah, you want to get a big number, but it's not like they don't have the cash in hand from, from the television deal.
Michael Kay
Like, like you're about to have a new deal this offseason. You have a great Finals.
Peter Rosenberg
But here's where I think Gary Bedman could be excited. Gary Bettman locked out an entire year of the NHL season to get the NHL back on track. He had, as of a few years ago, a Florida Panther team that looked like they weren't going to make it, that they were going to move. They were hemorrhaging money. Their building was antiquated too far away from Miami and out there in Sunrise, Florida. And now that team has gone to three consecutive Stanley Cups. He stuck with the Panthers and they've paid dividends. The Oilers were one of the franchises he was trying to save during the lockout because these Canadian franchises are all moving. Quebec City moved. Winnipeg moved. Who the heck wants to go to Edmonton? We need a salary cap to save the Canadian teams. And now they've gone to the Stanley Cup Final. Back to back years. So I think it's Bettman, but Robert Manhattan is refreshed from his nap, and he's back with us here on Don Han and Rosenberg. Robert, I hope we didn't bore you to sleep. Hopefully you're hungover or something happened, but you were snoring.
Caller Felicia
Yeah, no, no, no, Actually, guys, I was out in the hole. I heard a noise. I apologize. I'm afraid phone went down and I pushed the wrong button and I heard.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, sorry. All right, I. Look, no, no, no, no, no. Robert, Robert, look at me. You fell asleep.
Michael Kay
We heard you snoring.
Peter Rosenberg
We heard you snoring.
Caller Felicia
Well, you did, huh?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Do you want to hear it back?
Michael Kay
Okay. It's okay.
Alan Hahn
No, no, no, no, don't.
Michael Kay
All right.
Caller Felicia
If I did all right, I apologize.
Michael Kay
It's all right.
Alan Hahn
I've never seen done a lie like that in my life.
Caller Felicia
No, no, you guys, don't.
Alan Hahn
Robert. The equivalent of that would.
Michael Kay
Would.
Peter Rosenberg
Would.
Alan Hahn
A wife says, honey, where were you? You were late. He goes, oh, I was at dinner with some buddies. She goes, no, no, I. I just heard from someone you were at the mall with another woman. My bad. I was with another woman. I mean, you just completely punted.
Caller Felicia
It won't happen again. After all, it is 100 degrees.
Peter Rosenberg
It is like the Rodney Daniel line in Back to School. You don't lie to me.
Alan Hahn
Right?
Caller Felicia
I want to put a question. I want to put a question to all of you, but especially Don. Do you happen to know what the ratings were for both the cup and the NBA? And here's what I'm. Here's my question. Which commissioner is smiling more at what he got for his Finals?
Alan Hahn
Well.
Caller Felicia
Bettman or Silver?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm going to. I'm going to take the ratings out of it, Robert. Because clearly the NBA did a better job, especially with their 60 million in Game 7. But I was just mentioning, Robert, before you called back, Gary Bettman locked out the league for a full year, canceled a full season to save teams like the Edmonton Oilers going to battle the Florida Panthers, who were near bankruptcy and threatening to move. And one of the most fragile franchises in the NHL have now gone to three consecutive Stanley cup finals. So I think he looks at it and goes, I'm pretty proud that the Florida Panthers and the Edmonton Oilers are thriving in this sport when just a few decades ago they look like they weren't going to be able to be sustainable there. So, yeah, the ratings were better in the NBA, but Indiana's not going anywhere. Oklahoma City's not going anywhere. But I think Gary probably looks proudly at two franchises that maybe during the lockout people thought weren't going to be able to survive, and now they're thriving. So I would say, Gary, you have just a thought.
Caller Felicia
There was no game 7. I was hoping for a game 7 like crazy in the. In the Cup. I wonder what were. I hear from Michael K earlier that the ratings for game seven in the NBA were 16 million.
Alan Hahn
That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow. Like double. I think the average from any of the other games.
Michael Kay
Yeah, that's the thing. Because it was a Game seven, it drew a lot of people in because they knew it was the ultimate game. Game six of the Stanley Cup Final drew 13 million fewer.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that was. And. And because 2.8 and it was a lousy game and it was game sick. Now, if there had been a game seven. Oh, yeah, Anthony, what did game seven last year do? It was on ABC standby. The Oilers are trying to come back from 3, 0 down. I think you might have gotten game.
Michael Kay
Seven of the Stanley Cup Final. Average audience now, this is of US and Canada, 16.3.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, well, we got to take Canada out, so that probably depress 7.7. Yeah. Right. So. So, yeah. So that would. So think about this. The game. If the NHL got a Game 7 on ABC just like the NBA got on ABC, it would have gotten about half the audience, and that kind of makes sense. Basketball.
Michael Kay
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
I think hockey could be happy with that. I think that's the way it goes. But unfortunately, not a great game. Five. Adam Silver, Game six.
Michael Kay
You're not thrilled with that. Game seven for this reason. The lasting memory of that game and the series is an injury.
Peter Rosenberg
Right?
Michael Kay
Think about it.
Peter Rosenberg
No, you don't want that.
Michael Kay
You're trying to sell the idea of the Thunder and Shay Gilgis Alexander and the MVP and all that stuff, but he knows in his heart of hearts your lasting memory of that final is Tyrese Haliburton going down and pounding the floor saying no.
Peter Rosenberg
But you know what? He's happy about that. For the seventh consecutive year, there was a different NBA champion. And I think commissioners do.
Alan Hahn
I guess they like that.
Michael Kay
I guess they do. I don't think it's great.
Peter Rosenberg

Michael Kay
Board of Governors approved the sale of The Timberwolves and the Lynx to a group led by Mark Lohr and Alex Rodriguez.
Alan Hahn
There you go.
Michael Kay
So a Rod officially now the owner of an NBA team.
Peter Rosenberg
That could be enough for me to. To maybe root for the T Wolves.
Michael Kay
Yeah, Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I like Alex. I never really planted my flag in the NBA. I dabbled.
Alan Hahn
You want to do it?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I dabble with the old time Vancouver Grizzlies.
Michael Kay
Hang on a second. You're not a Knicks guy right in front of me, you're going to do this?
Alan Hahn
Well, it's not about you. Sorry, sorry. A little offense. It's about you right front of you.
Michael Kay
Hang on a second. He just said because of Alex Rodriguez.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Michael Kay
So now all of a sudden you don't own.
Alan Hahn
You don't own the Knicks and some would say they own you.
Michael Kay
I mean, wait a minute. On the contrary.
Alan Hahn
No, no, I hear what you're saying.
Michael Kay
Mickey Mouse owns me.
Alan Hahn
That's right. Well said. But come on, don't. You're gonna pick the links, be a Knicks guy.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not like it'll last. So relax.
Michael Kay
What do you think Alex Rodriguez gonna be like? Hey, Dom, let's fly you out for a game. Sit your courts.
Peter Rosenberg
He couldn't say no. I think. I think Minneapolis is a very underrated town.
Michael Kay
I agree with that.
Alan Hahn
If he said, I don't think he'd say, hey, let me fly you out. But I think if Don said, alex, I'm thinking about taking my son to a game in Minnesota. I think Alex would put a. Put him courtside.
Michael Kay
I'm not saying this is the more.
Peter Rosenberg
Realistic thing because it could happen. Day off in St. Paul. I'm with the Rangers on a road trip.
Michael Kay
T. Wolves have a game.
Peter Rosenberg
Calgary, Minnesota. And it's Calgary Friday, Minnesota Sunday. We go, we do the Calgary thing. I don't poop my pants. We fly to Minnesota.
Alan Hahn
Great news.
Peter Rosenberg
Have a Saturday off before the Sunday afternoon game in Minneapolis in Saul St. Paul. And I reach out to Alex and say, listen, T. Wolves are, you know, playing the Kings. Can. I'm here.
Michael Kay
Love to come to a game.
Peter Rosenberg
You think he put me courtside? What do you think he was sweet.
Michael Kay
Would he text you and say, here's the link to buy tickets.
Alan Hahn
Oh.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh my God. Can you imagine?
Michael Kay
They're done. We would be done. Here's the link to our website. You can get tickets right here.
Peter Rosenberg
Can you imagine? You know how disrespectful that.
Alan Hahn
Not even a promo code.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, I wouldn't be upset if he just said, yeah, listen, great. Can't do it. But if he texts, like, you know, that'd be hilarious.
Michael Kay
Here, click this link for tickets. So you click the link and it takes you to their. Their box office website.
Alan Hahn
Regular box office.
Michael Kay
Tremendous.
Alan Hahn
He can't get up.
Michael Kay
You think his up for that?
Peter Rosenberg
Because it would just be me.
Michael Kay
I need you. Courtside. Marco's going his first.
Peter Rosenberg
Courtside's tough because usually they don't have one extra seat. Courtside, right?
Michael Kay
Oh, that's right. You're not with Marco. That's right. You're on script.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, will he hook me and Dave Maloney up Right courtside.
Michael Kay
That's what you do.
Alan Hahn
I think he would. He owns the team, for God's sake.
Michael Kay
Owns. Owns the chief. I don't care who own the Chief. I hate to do.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Felicia in Mississippi. How are you, dear?
Caller Ronnie
Hey, guys.
Michael Kay
Good.
Caller Ronnie
I'm trying not to ask, like, how are you guys? Because I remember like, a few shows ago you were like, you don't have to ask, but I'm notoriously bad about that, so I'm not going to ask. But of course, I wanted to chime in on the Islanders, and you can let your little bean counter know that the Islanders definitely move the ticket for all your loyal fans here in Mississippi.
Michael Kay
Love it.
Caller Ronnie
But something that really, really stood out to me. Darcy has a really good personality. I think he's fun, and it just seems, you know, we're going to get new blood in the organization that we desperately need. And the first couple things that stood out in his interview was I just love that he harped on, like, special teams because as we know, we were dead last or one above dead last. Just absolutely horrendous. And then him saying he's going to take the best player. I like that, too, because we have a myriad of needs, so I don't think we should just focus on, you know, oh, this is a specific position. We want, like, just get the best player and let's build, like, we need new blood. And I really think I'm the optimist, but I think he's going to be really good for the organization.
Peter Rosenberg
Who do you want them to draft? Do you have any idea?
Caller Ronnie
So I really am leaning towards Misa just because I think that really, we've been struggling with scoring for so long, and I'm just. He doesn't have, like, with. Oh, I can't think of the Long island kid. For some reason, I'm drawing a blank. You know, he's. Yeah, Higgins. He's had, you know, he's had Injury issues and so has the defensive player. I don't know. I just. Misa kind of just stands out to me. Or Misa. I forget how it's pronounced. That's. But I don't really have a preference. You know, they know far more than. Than I do, of course. I'm just happy that we. It seems like we have, you know, someone competent and we just sit and go with like. Like the name, you know, we're not just going to go with the name. We're going to go with who we think is.
Peter Rosenberg
What I like about Misa is that he's a center. And I've always been told by people following the league, you build up the middle and you. And that's where you do it. Center, defense, goaltender, you're sent, goal. So. And you could go. You know, Schaefer could go, too. So you got a choice of the best defenseman, the best center. I think you can't go wrong with Schaefer or miss.
Michael Kay
But see, to me, like, way he said he's drafting the best player, wouldn't that be Schaefer?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Michael Kay
Right. Hagen's a great story and he's a great kid. The family and all that stuff. It's. It's again, from Long Island. It's a wonderful story. You'd root for it. But he made it sound like, A, he knew who he's taken already. B, he was talking about the. Because I was saying, you feel a need you like what? And he said, you take the best. The most talented player. You take the best player.
Peter Rosenberg
Scott Wheeler on the Athletic did a mock draft and has Hagen's dropping a seven.
Michael Kay
Oh, God. If he goes to Boston. Poor kid. Well, I'm kidding. It's great that he'd be in the league. I'm just like. You know how it is when it comes to Boston is what, Philly?
Peter Rosenberg
Seven. Philly. I thought I saw seven.
Michael Kay
Boston.
Peter Rosenberg
Philly.
Michael Kay
But I thought that wasn't. That was Boston on there. Right?
Peter Rosenberg
That's what. Just looking. It's from June 24th. It's got numbers. It's got him going to Boston.
Michael Kay
Boston. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you saying that they don't have the seventh pick? We'll get that all straightened out, I'm sure.
Michael Kay
Anthony.
Alan Hahn
We're going to work this out, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Sixth, seventh is basically the same thing.
Michael Kay
Oh.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, okay.
Michael Kay
So sure.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. Richie Colmac, you're on ESPN New York. What's up? Hey, guys.
Caller Robert
I have a punishment idea for the.
Peter Rosenberg
Pick segment if you do it again. Oh, I'd like to do Something I believe the best idea is to get a cleaning from Richard in Manhattan.
Michael Kay
Little in your mouth.
Alan Hahn
You know, apparently.
Peter Rosenberg
According to Anthony's reaction, the line was crossed by Alan.
Alan Hahn
Oh, what?
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not. He added the thought it was all good.
Alan Hahn
And if you said both together, it'd be termed firing. It could be the end. I don't know if you said his.
Michael Kay
Name, followed by the five years with Bart Scott. If that didn't get it, get me.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you know. Yeah, but you didn't say can't wait.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, exactly. You didn't say can't wait while wearing a uniform.
Peter Rosenberg
Rich. I like. You know what I like. I don't think it's that awful. I mean, he's. He's a legit dentist. He's a good guy.
Alan Hahn
He's a great guy. But you wouldn't be the longest cleaning.
Michael Kay
You ever had because he'd be talking to you about every.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's the point.
Michael Kay
But you know the best part? He's so used to only talking because you can't, obviously when you're at the dentist, you can't ever respond. He's only gotta like stuff in your mouth.
Peter Rosenberg
He doesn't care about a response.
Alan Hahn
I don't know, man. I. I don't want Richard in my mouth.
Peter Rosenberg
You want. You want to.
Alan Hahn
I'll say it like that. I do.
Peter Rosenberg
I.
Michael Kay
Sure, yeah.
Alan Hahn
That's how I'm say. Not even a little bit. Not even. I love Richard. Not even quick, but not enough to have him in my mouth.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll give him a water and I'll.
Alan Hahn
Say, here, rinse out.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think we'll get a response because you know when he gets going. But Richard is on hold.
Alan Hahn
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
Richard, would you like to respond to what was said?
Caller Robert
No, fellas, I would let you guys talk, of course. No, I wouldn't do all the talking. Hey, fellas, has it ever happened in the four major sports where one different team won every year for seven years? That's imp.
Caller Ronnie
Right?
Caller Robert
Never happened.
Alan Hahn
I don't know if it ever happened. That's a great question, Richard.
Caller Robert
Oh, no, Peter, we would know this.
Alan Hahn
Would we? If a team.
Caller Robert
There was always dynasties. It certainly couldn't have happened before 1960.
Alan Hahn
It has not happened.
Caller Robert
Yankees, Montreal, the Celtics. I mean, come on. So you can eliminate all those years. So it would be only in the last 60. I can't say that's a great feather in the cap for the NBA. Peter. Don, I was thinking. No, Alan, I'm sorry. What you guys were talking about, you Were and Donnie about the injuries. Now, Donnie was saying that the pitchers could go longer, they're going to get hurt anyway. And then, Allen, you brought up the point about Halliburton. Maybe he shouldn't have played because you have to save the athlete from himself. The only thing. And I don't even think doctors know the answer to this. I really don't. But the only thing I'm thinking is these injuries, like Lillard and Jayson Tatum and of course Halliburton, they were waiting to happen. So if they didn't happen at that moment, like for example, Halliburton, I think what would have happened is his first preseason basketball game, he would have tore it then. In other words, it was just a matter of time. And the reason is these guys stress athleticism and the way the game is played now. It thrives on all of this. You know, in the old days, it wasn't that the athletes couldn't do what these guys can do. First of all, the game was conservative. Conservative. You weren't able to drag your pivot foot, pound the bear. You know, the first guy I ever saw with a high dribble, Allen, you might have remembered this was Michael Ray Richardson. And I always used to think this. And then, of course, magic came in the year. In those days, you could never dribble a ball above your waistline. Every dribbler was. And you couldn't palm the ball. Iverson brought that into the NBA. Palming and cat. So all of this stuff led to the game being more athletic, more watchable. The old game was slower and more precise. Like, I remember Monroe, when he came to the Knicks, Holtzman would sit him down when he turned the ball over. One of his fancy spin the remove back, back to the basket moves. It wasn't. It was frowned on. That kind of athleticism they didn't want. So these players now are jumping and running. In a way, the crowd wants it, the NBA wants it, but it damages their body. There's no way, you know, and these injuries are just waiting to happen. They're all wear and tear, I think. But who knows? You guys may be right. Who knows? Was saying, fellas, a pleasure.
Caller Felicia
Thank you.
Michael Kay
It's the speed of the game. Does this count when you talk about not having a repeat champion? Okay, so this is. We're starting 1969. Celtics, Knicks, Bucks, Lakers, Knicks.
Alan Hahn
No.
Michael Kay
So that doesn't count because it's not back to back.
Alan Hahn
No, no repeat.
Michael Kay
So no repeat. All right, so from there then. Let's go from, from, from there, you're.
Alan Hahn
Not going to get there.
Michael Kay
Knicks, Celtics, 74. Warriors 75. Celtics.
Peter Rosenberg
No, I think I might have it. Football? Baseball.
Alan Hahn
Oh, baseball.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, think about it. Count it. Red Sox 07. Phillies 08. Yankees 09. That's three. Giants, 2010. All right, that's four. Cardinals, 2011. That's five. Nope, nope. Giants, Giants.
Michael Kay
Because the Giants win every other year at that point.
Peter Rosenberg
So let's go 13. Red Sox, Royals, Red Sox, Giants. That's two Royals, then Royals three. Cubs four. Astros five.
Michael Kay
No, you're going to get Astros again.
Peter Rosenberg
Red Sox six. National seven. But didn't you hit Dodgers eight? Oh, that's right. The Braves, nine.
Alan Hahn
Weren't the Red Sox at the beginning there?
Peter Rosenberg
Red Sox were 2013.
Alan Hahn
And a second time.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, the eight.
Michael Kay
Oh, yeah, that's what I was thinking. The Red Sox, second time.
Alan Hahn
The Red Sox second time.
Peter Rosenberg
So Red. Yeah, so Red Sox, Giants.
Alan Hahn
What about foosball? Nothing in foosball.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. We'll check when we come back.
Michael Kay
Well, because the Patriots blew that.
Alan Hahn
No, no, but wait.
Michael Kay
Cowboys blew that up.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what? We'll look it up. I think it has to have happened.
Michael Kay
Your team pulled out.
Alan Hahn
Well, commies did it in the 80s.
Michael Kay
Steelers blew it up.
Alan Hahn
Steelers would have ruined it for sure.
Michael Kay
Yeah, packers killed it in the 60s.
Peter Rosenberg

All right. I got my soundtrack on the way home.
Michael Kay
Oh, my God.
Peter Rosenberg
I think we found one in baseball. Seven straight years with a different champion. Dodgers 81.
Michael Kay
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
Cardinals 82. Orioles 83. Tigers 84. Yeah. Royals 85. Mets 86.
Alan Hahn
Twins, Twins 87.
Peter Rosenberg
Then the Dodgers again.
Alan Hahn
But it's too late.
Peter Rosenberg
Right? So that's seven.
Alan Hahn
There you go.
Michael Kay
You got seven.
Alan Hahn
Look at us.
Michael Kay
So we're right now we're in seven in a row. So that's ties. So if the Thunder don't repeat next season, they might. That could be the longest run without a repeat. Without a.
Alan Hahn
By the way, Richard is so nuts for being like, of course we know that. I don't know if I'd walk around knowing that every league has never had a repeat champion within seven years. It's kind of random.
Michael Kay
So. All right, so it ties it. So it has happened before. Number one. Right. Richard, I know you're listening, but we have had one before, but we've never. I don't believe we ever had eight. No, Can't. Couldn't have. Hockey's out.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not going to go back that far because you had the same teams winning all the time and you had six. Baseball and hockey. So of course you couldn't have seven different champions in the original six era. Right. So that's. That's. Yeah. And even you go back to the, you know, Philadelphia Quakers and the NBA.
Michael Kay
The Celtics won like every year for like a span of two decades.
Alan Hahn
The 60s and 70s are.
Michael Kay
Celtics. Celtics.
Alan Hahn
Sorry. Sorry, bro.
Michael Kay
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Bring back the old days. I want to let you know the game time is brought to you by Tellamore. Do Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, guys.
Michael Kay
I like when he holds it.
Alan Hahn
It's totally time. It's all right there for you.
Peter Rosenberg

Do the original triple distilled triple blend in a triple Casper True Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew or try the new Tullamore Dew. Honey, during today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore do responsibly. So, you know, big day tomorrow because you got the NBA draft starting day one. I didn't really think they needed to go to two days, but I guess they want to keep up with the Joneses.
Michael Kay
Well, I'll be honest. So the first. The first one I did, the first one I hosted was still the. The two, you know, two rounds in one night.
Alan Hahn
Normal.
Michael Kay
We weren't out of there. It's almost one o' clock in the morning. Like, it's just that. That's too. It's too much.
Alan Hahn
Well, good news is you'll get out probably slightly earlier.
Michael Kay
Yeah. Like 11.
Alan Hahn
Right. And the bad news is it'll be a second night.
Michael Kay
Here's the other problem. Like I said, like, like I said the darsh. We had Matthew Darsh, the Islanders gm, they have the number one pick. I said it to him in Jess, but he kind of had fun with it, and I'm glad he did. The Dallas Mavericks have the number one pick. Cooper Flag is the runaway top choice in this draft. When Adam Silver comes out and says, dallas Mavericks, you're on the clock. If they're not, like, I love Nico Harrison. I've known him a long time. If he's not at the podium or whatever it is, he's not there. If they don't already say the pick is it. Like, what do we. Why do we need the five?
Peter Rosenberg
We don't need to drive. Think it's ridiculous when they just start. Just make the pick.
Michael Kay
We all know who it is.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what I'm asking.
Michael Kay
There's no suspense. Well, what about trades?
Peter Rosenberg
You know, trades. All you have the whole time, months. Stop, stop.
Michael Kay
Weeks to trade.
Peter Rosenberg
No Ronnie in the work truck. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Ronnie? Hello. What's up?
Michael Kay
All right.
I
Hey, big fan of y' all. No, I'm just calling because I want. I think I found, like, the longest streak of a. Without a repeat champion. It was in with baseball from 2014 until 2021. You had the Royals. No, I'm sorry. You had the. The Giants.
Alan Hahn
There's multiple Astros in there.
Michael Kay
No, no, it's the Red Sox. There's two Red Sox in there.
Peter Rosenberg
Two Red Sox in there.
I
We all know from 2014, starting at.
Alan Hahn
14 after the Red Sox. But isn't there two Astros?
I
Yeah, no, there's one Astros of 2022.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, all right, so Giants, Royals.
I
So Giants, Royals, Cubs, Astros, Red Sox.
Peter Rosenberg
Red Sox, Nationals.
I
Yeah. And then 19, you have the Nationals. 2020, you have the Dodgers. And in 2021, you have the Braves. So that's eight.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. I thought I was on that. And you. I guess. Yeah, I guess we must have did something wrong.
Michael Kay
Good job, because you had two Red Sox.
Peter Rosenberg
But the Red Sox, he start. Because I started in 2013. But if you go to 14, he's right.
Alan Hahn
You start at 14, you're good.
Peter Rosenberg
So you got Giants, double check, Giants.
Michael Kay
Royals, Cubs, Astros, Red Sox, Nationals, Dodgers, Braves, Astro. So you got to stop at 21, right?
Peter Rosenberg
No, it was Braves in 21, then 22, the Astros.
Michael Kay
That's eight. That's eight.
Peter Rosenberg
That's 8. That's it. All right. So we still have Richard.
Michael Kay
Once again.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go, Richard. We did it right there on the air for you, right in your mouth. That's where Richard likes to be yeah, he does. Like that's where he resides. This is always in your mouth. Well, after something like that, you know what I need? I need an enn. And that's what's coming up. Yes, Don on the Roseburg on ESPN New York. You want to get the most for your money.
