But our one of our favorite people to have on ESPN NFL Insider, Adam Schefter is joining us right now and he's bringing awareness to a very important cause screening for type 1 diabetes. So for information on that, go to www.screenfortype1 the number1.comtake-the-pledge so make sure you certainly do that. Shefty, good to talk to you. It's been a while. How are you?
Adam Schefter
Hello there, gentlemen. What's going on?
Don LaGreca
Well, I mean let's first of all, in New York, what's going on is the jets have a new head coach and this is Aaron Glenn, a guy with blood in the ground and some history here. And when it comes to now putting a staff together, that's what everybody now is wondering. Okay, rookie head coach, that's tough sometimes in New York. What kind of people is he putting around him? What are you hearing about that?
Adam Schefter
Well, he's going to get a great staff. I think people want to come work with him. We've heard the name Nick Haley as a potential offensive coordinator. I don't know specific names, but I do just have faith in a football lifer that he's going to put together the right staff and the right people and everything's going to work out well for him. I, that's just what I believe. Now obviously the offensive coordinator will be a huge hire and who they bring a quarterback, there'll be a lot of big moves that, that they make. Of course, you know, one of my I grew up a Jets fan on Long island, right? So I had a high school friend reach out like, please tell me Aaron Glenn is going to be great. I said he's, he's a great leader. He's a great man, he's a great coach. Tell me who's playing quarterback, you know, and that's what I would say, right, because they have to get a quarterback for him to succeed, inevitably, long term you have to solve that position because if they don't, they're just going to be back in the cycle that they've been in and that doesn't serve anybody.
Alan Hahn
Now the other name you hear for the D coordinator is Steve Wilkes. The positive, he's got a ton of experience and he did spend a brief time as head coach in Arizona. But I guess the negatives is that he's a lot of one and dones in his career. If it ends up being Wilkes, do you like it and why has he been in so many places in such a short period of time?
Adam Schefter
Well, first of all, Steve Wilkes is a great man. I mean, he's, he's a great man. And, and Aaron Glenn's fingerprints are going to be all over the defense and Steve Wilkes will be over the. When you say he's bounced around, let's think about some of the places he's been. Carolina, they've been through a lot of people. Arizona for a while, they were through a lot of people. You know, Kyle Shanahan, one of the best coaches in the NFL, one of the best organizations, but he's had a lot of different defensive coordinators. So I don't know that that's Steve Wilkes so much as some of the places that he's been. They had to sit down and really analyze Shefty.
Don LaGreca
Okay, so the other thing that the jets have to do is get themselves a general manager. Earlier in the week it felt like Lance Newmark was trending towards getting that job. He was there with Aaron Glenn on a second interview opportunity, but so far nothing has happened on that front. Is there anything we can, we can look into on that?
Adam Schefter
Well, it's 5:07 Eastern Friday afternoon. We have heard at various points that Lance Newmark was going to be the GM and he's not. We've heard reports that Darren Muji is going to be the GM and he's not. I don't know exactly how this is going to go just yet, but you know, again, I think there were reports at noon today roughly that Moji was hired. And I take that to the Broncos and they're like, we're sitting with Muji in the cafeteria right here. He hasn't gotten an offer. And again, Darren Muji may be the guy and they may hire him. Today, tomorrow, who knows? But he has not been hired yet, you know, and as of this afternoon, he hadn't received an offer and Lance Newmark hasn't received an offer. And I don't know how it's going to work out exactly, but I think they're going through the process still and for whatever reason, it hasn't finished up just yet.
Alan Hahn
And the one thing getting back to the coach and I think Aaron Glenn is a fine hire, I just worry about the lack of experience. And the thing that kind of bothered me is why not even just reach out to Mike McCarthy? Was it the poor interview from back in the day with Chris Johnson or is it just Woody is adverse to really bringing in guys with a ton of experience because he, he likes the idea of being the final word and the man in charge and feels like he can do that with inexperienced coaches rather than guys that have a long resume.
Adam Schefter
Well, here's what I would say. You can't fault the jets for not interviewing enough people. If anything, it's just the opposite. Okay, so there must be a reason that they didn't feel like Mike McCarthy was right for their organization. Now, I'm a Mike McCarthy fan and I think he's got a decent chance to wind up as the New Orleans Saints head coach. But every organization has a different idea about what they're looking for and whatever it is that the jets were looking for. And I think they found a lot of that. Now, Glenn, the fire, the leadership, all those things like that, that was not a situation where Mike McCarthy seemed to be on their radar. Aaron Glenn was, and that's sort of the way it played out.
Don LaGreca
Adam Schefter joining us here on the show. And there's a lot to talk about on the jets side of things, but also around the NFL, as always, as you know, certainly more than anybody else, this news churning all the time. Pete Carroll, as you reported in Las Vegas, back in the league, he'll be 74 when he starts the season. Is there a surprise at his age that he's still getting opportunities or is it because of, as we know, he's one of the youngest 73 year olds you'll probably ever meet.
Adam Schefter
He's first of all, he's an inspiration. Like if you've ever spent any time around him. I remember being in his meeting room. I was fortunate enough he invited, I brought Oz the Mentalist, who's done some work on espn, out to Seattle a couple of summers ago. And Pete brought us into the team meetings that morning. And I'm Just going to tell you, it was something that I won't forget because he had like. They were. There was. It was like music blasting. It was like a nightclub. It was basketball hoops all around. Guys go nuts. And we were there for a couple hours and I left the meeting room and everything that was. And I was just wiped out from just being in the room for two hours. Like, that guy has more energy than people half his age. He is incredible. And, you know, I think what the Raiders are trying to do here is they know they don't have a quarterback during a division with Mahomes and Herbert and Bo Nix and Andy Reid and Jim Harbaugh and Sean Payton. Like these are qualified, credible coach. They can't. They can't go out and hire some young novice coach and hope that he's going to be the guy that Sean McVeigh. They've tried. That hasn't worked. So they went for what they think is a sure thing to shore up their organization, to fortify the organization while they hope to find a quarterback and try to get on an even playing field with these other teams. You don't have a quarterback, you don't have a chance. They don't have a quarterback right now. They're not in a position maybe necessarily to draft one unless they trade up. So what are you going to do? Let's get somebody in here that we know is going to implement, install the right culture. He's going to get the guys playing up to their ability. Who knows what he's doing. Pete Carroll knows what he's doing, so that's what they opted for.
Alan Hahn
All right. You look at the games this weekend, Eagles a little banged up, but looking at your tweet, Brown and Hertz both were in full participation in practice today. But looking at Hertz, any idea at all how close to 100% he'll be on Sunday?
Adam Schefter
Yeah, I don't get the sense that they're very concerned.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Adam Schefter
He's got the knee. He's going to wear a knee brace. Right. So you might think, okay, well, that's something. You know, the conversations I've had, I just didn't sense a high level of concern from them at all. Now, maybe they're playing that off, but he's playing, he's off the injury report, he's not even questionable. He's playing. He'll be out there. And I'll lean on Saquon Barkley, who said, I expect Jalen hurts to be.
Don LaGreca
Jalen hurts in the other game for the Bills. How big is the injury to Taylor Rap that he'll be out of this game, and they've got the rookie Cole Bishop starting in his place. How big is that in that matchup?
Adam Schefter
Well, you know, the big thing when you go into Kansas City, these teams have played eight times and they've split the eight meetings and the Chiefs have won all three in the postseason. This is going to come down to, I think, not an injury to Taylor Rap, with all due respect, but the team that makes fewer mistakes, and the Chiefs have made so few mistakes the last couple of months. They just don't make. They don't beat themselves and they're, you know, the smartest people in football say, you know, the best teams don't beat themselves, and there are so many teams in this league that do, and the Chiefs are not on that list. And if the Buffalo Bills can go in there without Taylor, wrap and hold onto the football and win the turnover battle, they'll have a chance to win that game and go to the Super Bowl.
Alan Hahn
You're so right about the Chiefs because they don't make mistakes and they do catch their share of breaks. And Mahomes had to address it earlier this week about, you know, do you get the calls? Do you get the benefit of the late slide and stuff that happens on the sidelines? It's one thing for me as a fan to be irritated by what happened against the Texans, but talking to people around the NFL, is there a feel around the league that Mahomes might get more calls or the Chiefs might get more calls than other teams in the league?
Adam Schefter
You know, the numbers say that Josh Allen's gotten more calls this year and over the course of his career than Mahomes. But there is this great perception that Mahomes gets more calls because of all the eyes that are on him. And some of the calls that we've seen most recently in the divisional playoff game against Houston. And so that will continue to be the case where people think he's getting calls and he does get some calls and he's earned that. You know, the great players there used to be the Jordan rules in basketball, and for years I think Tom Brady got some calls. That's what happens when you're at that level of player. I think it has a psychological effect on people, probably just does. But the reality is, is he hasn't gotten more calls than Josh Allen. So let's see how this plays out on Sunday.
Alan Hahn
And what happens to me, you're just talking about two quarterbacks that scramble. And would the NFL have any appetite as much as they want to protect the quarterback and how important that is, especially in a cap sport, you can ruin a season by losing your quarterback that, you know, whether it's the late slide or him slowing down on the sidelines. Is there something the NFL, do you think can do to kind of readdress the slide so it isn't used as a weapon by these scrambling quarterbacks?
Adam Schefter
Yeah, I think they wind up looking at it, you know, and seeing if there's anything they can do. The competition committee is always meeting in the off season. I'm certain that'll be a topic of conversation. And if they feel like there's a rule that can improve it, I'm sure that will be a part of it. Yeah, but like the competition committee spends weeks after the season meeting and then they usually wind up voting at the league meeting in late March, early April. And I would imagine, I'm going to guess that that's going to be a topic this off season.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, especially with all the conversation that we've had about it. I can only imagine what that's going to be and all the opinions, of course, that'll fly around because of it. Adam Schefter joining us here on the show and here also bringing awareness to an important cause to him and many people that, of course, is screening for type 1 diabetes. Tell me why for you personally this is important.
Adam Schefter
Well, my wife is a type 1 diabetic and I've seen what it's like for her to manage that disease. And type 1 diabetes can't be prevented, but it can be detected early and screening can give you valuable time to prepare. So again, I just think it's important I make my living with information. I want people to have their own information, which is why we think it's important to talk to your doctor about type 1 diabetes. Tell them you want to be screened. Go to screen4type1.com for more information. That screen4type1.com pretty important to get that done. And I appreciate you guys allowing me that opportunity because living with type 1 diabetic, I see how debilitating that condition is. And it's, it's a great respect and admiration for what my life, my wife endures on a daily basis with her life.
Alan Hahn
I'm so glad you do this because most of the time, whether it's prostate cancer, whether it's colon cancer, whether it's diabetes is just go to the doctor, get checked. A lot of these things can be fixed. We live in this world. Right. Of manly. Like, oh, I don't have to go to the doctor. I don't want to have to deal with that. Like, there's so much that can be handled if guys and women, too, just make sure that you get a regular exam.
Adam Schefter
And then that's on behalf of Sanofi and they've been great partnering with here to raise awareness about the importance of screening for type 1 and diabetes. So please, again, really important. See it every day. Screen for type1.com Shefty we love you.
Don LaGreca
Thanks so much for joining us. Look forward to talking to you soon.
Adam Schefter
Enjoy the games this weekend.
Don LaGreca
Absolutely. Yes. And again, the great Adam Schefter joining us here on the show. Some really interesting nuggets there at the very top about the jets and their whole situation.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it just, it's interesting that it just looked like Newmark was done.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And it was over. And then why is it taking so much time? Is it just the jets haven't been able to figure out exactly who they want?
Don LaGreca
And then Mooji now, like, he thought that was done, then he makes a call and they're like, no, he's still here. So there's no offers to him either.
Alan Hahn
So is it indecisiveness by the Jets? Is it indecisiveness by another? These individuals who are interviewing, they're interviewing for the job. They obviously want it.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Alan Hahn
You know, and we speculated, is it possible that when you're hearing rumblings that Parcells might be involved or does this scare off some general managers? Like, listen, I don't need Bill Parcells hovering around over my, you know, whisper in the ear of my head coach?
Don LaGreca
I hope not. I, I want somebody of that status to have an influence. Like, again, I don't, I do not want to paint a picture that Bill Parcells is somehow, you know, that he's got the, the puppet strings. I, there's no way at this point in his life that's what he's doing. But if he's there to lean on for some support and some advice and what do you think? Absolutely. I would want a guy like that around.
Alan Hahn
But the thing I, I think what honestly it is, and with the jets and Woody Johnson, you just wonder, is it. What exactly is my job going to be? You know, am I just going to be at Woody's whim for whatever he wants to do, or is my head coach going to be barking at me to draft this guy? I want to know what my role is, you know, do I have autonomy? Is everything got to be run past Woody? Does everything have to Be collaborative. Like, it's always great in theory. The jets have always had this. We want everybody involved. We want, well, everybody in the room to kind of go over who do we draft, who do we sign as a free agent? Well, what decisions we make. There has to be. There has to be a big boy in the room. There has to be somebody that has the final say, and for it to be Woody Johnson or John Marrow. And I understand they have the right because they're the owner, but I need a football guy to be that final one to say, all right, I'm the tiebreaker here. This is who we're drafted, this is who we're signing. And I'm just wondering if general managers, like, I'm just not sure how much power, how much latitude am I going to have here to be able to make ultimate decisions? And I would think that that would probably be something that would affect me on whether I want a job or not.
Don LaGreca
It's fair. But if it's your first job, you know, I think maybe it's not something you put as much emphasis on. If it's your. If you've done this before and you know how it works and you're like, yeah, I've been through this. I don't want to go through that again. I completely understand. I also felt, Don, that shefte. Shefty. Also saying, you know, again, he, he's. He's careful with his words, but he's also smart. I've, I've interviewed him a million times. Like, he, he'll tell you things if you pay attention to what he's saying.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don LaGreca
And what I heard him say about what's. What are you doing at quarterback? What is your long term solution? Quarterback. Those types of stuff. Like, again, I. His. The. The GM is not the biggest story. The biggest story is how much longer is Aaron Rodgers on the jets roster? Is he going to be here for a year or is he done once we get to the new league year after the Super Bowl?
Alan Hahn
And what do you do if Aaron Glenn wants one thing and the general manager wants another thing? So in the interview process, are you being told, all right, listen, this is what we're doing here. We want you to be the general manager of the team, but your first order of business is to get out of the Aaron Rodgers business.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, go get a quarterback.
Alan Hahn
But I kind of want Aaron Rodgers, but not. I'm sorry, then we're good. You never know because it's really. We've had calls. We could take 20 calls right now. 10 would say get rid of him. 10 would say keep them.
Don LaGreca
76.
Alan Hahn
It's a really difficult decision, isn't it? So you can understand, I'm sure when they're interviewing general managers that they all, it might be 50, 50 on whether to keep him or not. And what is your alternative? So now, so now you've got to decide, is Rogers my quarterback? All right, he's not. Now we have to decide who's going to be our quarterback.
Don LaGreca
Who is my quarterback?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, because we've like the Raiders are in a rebuild, all right? They, even though They've got a 74 year old head coach, they can afford to be patient, kind of figure it out. The jets have a roster right now that's popping and if they get the right quarterback, they can compete in 20, 25, get the wrong quarterback and get ready for what we've, you know, buckled into over the last decade.
Don LaGreca
Five to seven wins once again. Big part of this too, by the way, is Devonte Adams because he has said that he's tethered to Rogers. Can you convince him? All right, we're moving on from Rogers, but we're not moving on from you and you and Garrett. Like, we think we got a squad here with you guys. Don't, you know, don't be so quick to get out of here. We think it could be special, something to definitely think about.
Alan Hahn
But just think about that layer, okay? So now I've got my general manager with a say. I've got my head coach with a say. I got my new OC with a say. Now devonte Adams might have a say on who he wants to throw to him, throw the football to. You know, Garrett Wilson likes the decision. He'll stay. If he doesn't, he'll demand a trade. But it just seems like there's a lot of cooks in the kitchen on this.
Don LaGreca
That's fair. There's a lot of decisions to be made. They got to clean up some of the issues from last season. By the way, one other thing on Shefty, he did mention unsolicited Nick Kaley, who again, tight ends and also passing coordinator out in with the Rams. So that's now another time we've heard.
Alan Hahn
His name attached and he had some good points on Wilkes. Some of the places he has gone to, they've gone through coaches like toilet paper. So, hey, he's 55 years old. He's been a head coach before. If that's who Aaron Glenn wants or, you know, Bill Parcells recommends, then. Then you got to go with that.

Adam Schefter
Hey.
Don LaGreca
I'm wondering, would the Chiefs winning be.
Adam Schefter
Great for jets fans?
Don LaGreca
Because it would be so nice to.
Adam Schefter
Unseat Mr. Brady as the greatest quarterback.
Don LaGreca
Wow. So. Because he's a cheater, right? So as a Jets fan, if Mahomes could move past him. Don. Which he obviously has more winning to do. But still, three in a row has never been done by. Four by. You know, Brady lost the third attempt in the divisional round, I believe. Right. When they won two in a row that divisional round there, they lost. So he never did this. Would. Would Mahomes emerging as the greatest of all time be appealing to jets fans who can then just put Brady aside?
Alan Hahn
I don't know that angle from Jet fans. You know that you beat the Bills.
Don LaGreca
So you're rooting for Mahomes because you hate Tom Brady.
Alan Hahn
I would have no problem, as a Jet, if you're a Jet fan, to have somebody be better than Tom Brady. Knock him off his perch. Yeah, why not?
Don LaGreca
I like that. Okay. Gabriel and Raleigh. Gabriel.
Alan Hahn
Hey. Howdy, boys. Look, you know, I. I'm just thinking about this whole coach rant thing and.
Don LaGreca
And the rankings.
Alan Hahn
Don, I would love to see you do a list on this one day, honestly.
Don LaGreca
A list?
Alan Hahn
Here's my thing. My favorite one I. I think is. Is Mike Singletary. I know.
Adam Schefter
It's.
Alan Hahn
It's more single, subdued, where he talks about Vernon Data.
Don LaGreca
Can't.
Alan Hahn
Can't do it. Can't do it. Can't culture. Can't win. Can't win with him. That one's great.
Don LaGreca
That one's great.
Alan Hahn
But what. What do you think about Mike Gundy? Is that your number one with a bullet?
Don LaGreca
Is that the. I'm a man.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that was great. That's where I was like, what is it? Oh, that was a. That was really good. God, that would make a great list. Just football. I can go all sports.
Don LaGreca
Well, all sports. Yeah. Just football alone. You got playoffs, right? Jim Moore. You got that most of.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, Jim Moore is definitely up there. I mean, there's got to be a basketball one maybe, you know, a post game conference press. Conference where someone loses it over a bad call. I would love to be a top five. Oh, that's, you know, I got to get to work on. That is really good.
Don LaGreca
Right? You get you. I mean, think about again, football alone. You got Ditka when he was with New Orleans and he was miserable down there. He got a good one. And of course, as you play to win the game. Herm Edwards, like, there's a lot of good. You can power rank those good ones.
Alan Hahn
But you know, my, my, my favorites. We think we talked about this the other day. The Michelle Terry and when he was coaching the Penguins. This fence is so soft. So soft. It's like they don't want even want to be out there. They're soft. But, but the epic one, the, the best one. I, I, I might be giving it away.
Don LaGreca
Okay.
Alan Hahn
Is the Lee Elia from the Cubs back in. I think it was 83. Have you heard that one?
Don LaGreca
I had to have.
Alan Hahn
But just because it's, it's just epic. It's the same 13, 000 people out there. These blankets don't even work. It's a playground for the. I can't even like it just, it's, it's just expletive after expletive. The how McCray when he threw the phone with the Royals. Remember that one?
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
There's a Finally. Ilia. There's got to be an edit on the play for Allen. It is amazing.
Don LaGreca
There's definitely a cut of it because it's. Yeah, this is, this is one. That's why people don't even work that. I think that's next week's list.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I think you could start working on that this weekend.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. Okay.
Alan Hahn
Like I told you, I got some free time tomorrow. I'll get to work on it tomorrow.
Don LaGreca
All right. Running the Hurry up. Right now. It's Don Hahn and Rosenberg. 880 ESPN 800 now. 193776 to get in on it right now. Earl in Brooklyn, you're up next, Earl.
Adam Schefter
Hey, what's up, guys? I'm a Cowboy fan. Just wanted to know if Schottenheimer is going to get the job and bring Rex in and probably don't want to.
Alan Hahn
Have no.
Adam Schefter
Relationship with Jerry and then.
Alan Hahn
Run and run the whole team. You think? What's that about? It seems logical. They were close obviously when they worked together with the Jets. I died to get.
Don LaGreca
I remember Rex. I believe before Dan Quinn got that job. Was Rex not part of that conversation in Dallas?
Alan Hahn
Remember, he interviewed for it.
Don LaGreca
Rob worked there.
Alan Hahn
But if Schottenheimer wants him. I think he would come in unless I listen. I don't think Schottenheimer would be a good hire to you.
Don LaGreca
I know I don't. But I don't know what they're looking for because they really haven't had like that kind of demonstrative head coach.
Alan Hahn
They're looking for a yes man.
Don LaGreca
What happened to Kellen Moore? I thought he would be an obvious choice.
Alan Hahn
Looked like it was going to be yeah, for sure. And I, and I, I listen. Rex interviewed for it now obviously with a new head coach, like, I don't know. It was Jones that said no. Was it? I'm sure Jones was the one that said no. But if he hires Schottenheimer and Schottenheimer says I want to bring in Rex, is Jones going to say no?
Don LaGreca
They shouldn't. I mean they got the pieces there defensively, you know, that's the area that I think they're, they're at their strength right now. Right. They still got to deal with the offensive line. They still got to figure out a running game and you know, the Dak Prescott of it all. But defensively at least you can feel like you can get right to work.
Alan Hahn
With that defensive players in the league. And now they're good. They're. They're good.
Don LaGreca
Okay, let's continue on the. Hurry up. Justin in Brooklyn. Go ahead, Justin.
Alan Hahn
What's up boys? Quick question and don't jump me on this please. But as a die hard jets fan, I love what's happening in Washington. Do you think if Jaden Daniels makes it to the super bowl, will this go down as the greatest rookie season ever? In sports, I think about magic, but he had Kareem. I can't think of anybody else in the NFL you think about body of.
Don LaGreca
Work and where like yeah, like where the rookie was the main piece because you're right, Magic Johnson had the greatest rookie season of all time because he what he did and, and but what you're right, he had Kareem an all time great as the main piece, the centerpiece of that team in 1980. So he won rookie of the year, went on to win the championship which again to me the championship part of it because like Wilt Chamberlain played a couple of years with the Harlem Globetrotters before He entered the NBA in 1959. So he was a little bit older but he came into league and average like 35 and 20. Like he was insane. And he won, he won MVP as a rookie. So you can. But he didn't win A champ. But he didn't win the championship, though. So, like the magic one, you know, the other name that comes up to me is. Is Joe DiMaggio. DiMaggio came in and then he started. You know what? He was a rookie and he was the centerpiece of them winning championships. Again, this is post, post, Ruth and Garrick. So that's it. So I think it's on the list, Justin. But he's got it. And think about it, too. If he's going to win this thing, he's got to get past the Eagles. And then likely he's either slaying the Patrick Mahomes dragon or stopping Josh Allen from. From getting to his. To ascending to his throne. That's, you know, he's. He's not beating some team like, you know, he's not beating a bad team that just found its way to the Super Bowl.
Alan Hahn
So we're just looking at winning the super bowl or just the. The actual.
Don LaGreca
He's got to win the super bowl for this to be. I think he's got to win the Super Bowl.
Alan Hahn
Back to that into the overall body of work, I think. I think that, you know, and like I said, the importance of position really plays a factor because there, I mean, outside of, you know, him offensively, Terry McLaurin, you know, Brian Robinson, decent, but I mean, not a lot of guys on that roster that you would take, you know, as a first option. That's a great story. It's got to be in the conversation, I think. But just what we just talked about tells you it has to be in the conversation because who else. I mean, Ben Roethlisberger went to a championship game his rookie year, didn't have great numbers, but, you know, went to a championship game, threw like 20 touchdown passes in that scene. Dan Marino didn't win until. Didn't go to the super bowl till his second year.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Alan Hahn
Made the playoffs his rookie year, but was out in the first round. If you go by sheer performance, you know, Tim U. Solani scoring 76 goals in its rookie season. But Winnipeg didn't go anywhere that year. The combined El Roethlisberger did win Rookie of the Year, too. Um, so it wasn't like he did nothing in his rookie season, but.
Don LaGreca
No, nothing like Joe Flacco, right? Didn't Joe Flacco win the Super Bowl? No, he did not as a rookie. What am I saying? No, but they, they got to the championship. Conference championship, I believe, with him.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but this is. So. This is.
Don LaGreca
But.
Alan Hahn
But Daniel has a much better rookie season. Listen, I, I, I think it's, they haven't done it yet. So that's the, See, that's the misconception of the championship. You're only halfway there. I mean, you still got to win this game, and then you got to win the Super Bowl. So I, no offense to Peter or the Commander, I don't think that's happening. I don't think they're winning the Super Bowl. So I think it's a little too early. But just to be able to get this far in your rookie year is, is astounding. And it's definitely in the conversation.
Don LaGreca
He's the sixth rookie quarterback to start a conference championship game, so can he be the first one to win a Super Bowl? That's remains to be seen. The Hurry up continues. 800-919-3776. Mike and Hawthorne. Hey, Mike.
Alan Hahn
Hey, Mike.
Don LaGreca
Hey, guys.
Alan Hahn
How you doing? Good.
Don LaGreca
Good. Hey. Hey, Don. How are you, man?
Alan Hahn
Good.
Don LaGreca
Good to hear you guys.
Alan Hahn
Hey.
Don LaGreca
I was on hold for something else, but they just made me think of something. I'm rooting for the Commanders for simple reason that hopefully then, then Peter retires and you guys have this show by yourself for, for the rest, for the rest of your life. You guys are, you guys are unbelievable. Unbelievable. But just wanted to say hello and I just want to say you guys.
Alan Hahn
Are doing a great job. And Don, all the best to you, my friend. And you know, you know how we.
Don LaGreca
Feel about you here in the borough. Have a good day.
Alan Hahn
Thank you so much, Mike. I appreciate he's a Dolphins fan, but I don't think Peter's going to retire if the Commanders win the Super Bowl, I matter of fact, I think he'd dig in deeper.
Don LaGreca
It would be really, I can't, I don't want to be the guy, but I have to honestly. You do, though. The human nature kicks in when, you know, like, again, I'll tell this. I always tell the story about the growing up in on Long island in the early 80s, going to middle school and all that stuff, getting on the bus. There was, there was a time where hockey mattered a ton in New York, like it was life or death. And if there were Islander fans and Ranger fans and if you, if they played each other that night, especially when they played each other in the playoffs in 84, if you got on the bus and your team lost you, you like you, I, I, I faked being sick because I didn't want to be on the bus. I didn't want to deal with it because it's insufferable. It's painful, it's annoying. It's all that stuff. I just know that it would be an insufferable two weeks of dealing with just how great this is. It's so great. Everything great. Isn't it so great? And I tell. I. I mean what I said, Don, he's having the season I was supposed to have. The Renaissance year, the one where it's like, I can't believe we made it. I can't believe, you know, we are the phoenix rising from the ashes. He's having the year we were supposed to have.
Alan Hahn
It's true.
Don LaGreca
So it makes it even worse for me. You get like, does it make. Am I being that guy? Or do you at least give me a little, like, can you give me a little leeway that it's okay for me to feel this way? Because while it's great, Daniels, it's a nice story. I love the kid. I don't have any ill will personally. But the story that was supposed to.
Alan Hahn
Be us, that was supposed to be you. But I guess it makes it a little easier that you don't have any real feelings about the commanders.
Don LaGreca
So I have no feelings about them, but I have feelings about the story. Kind of makes me. I'm a little. I'm a. I'm jelly. I'm a little jelly. But I got to tell you, right.
Alan Hahn
But this would be a lot worse if. If it was May turning the Patriots around.
Don LaGreca
Well, wait, wait, wait. Again, this makes it worse because if I have to see a Commander's Bills Super Bowl. So there's the quarterback I wanted again on record 2017. Go back, listen to all the shows. We still have all the podcasts. And when it was Han Solo on After you guys and I tell Anthony's here, he's no, he's my witness. So my quarterback that I Late night Saturday night, watching rain soaked Wyoming football, my wife going, what are you watching?
Alan Hahn
What are you watching?
Don LaGreca
I'm like, this. This guy's special. I'm telling you, this guy's special. And I gotta watch him win his first. Or I gotta watch the story that I was supposed. We were supposed to be that rags to riches. Oh my God, the franchise that finally got right.
Alan Hahn
I know, but I'm just saying it could be worse. Drake, May could be turning the Patriots around and they'd be in the championship game and really, what would you be doing?
Don LaGreca
Yeah, I'd get sick.
Alan Hahn
And you're working with a Patriot fan.
Don LaGreca
I would be sick to my stomach.
Alan Hahn
So at least that didn't Happen if.
Don LaGreca
The Patriots figured it out before, like there was some thought about that with Mac Jones for a second for.
Alan Hahn
And then he played and then he.
Don LaGreca
Then you realize, well, he sucks too. So at least it's, at least you didn't have to worry about that. That's the hurry up.
Alan Hahn
That was good.
Don LaGreca
That was fun. 800 now and nine three, seven, seven, six. I thought it was a great question though about the greatest rookie seasons. If, if somehow again the dream goes all the way to a Super bowl and wins it, does it, does it go up there with Magic Johnson? And you could argue that Daniels is the reason. Whereas Magic, as much as he was a huge part of getting the Lakers to where they were, they still had Kareem Abdul Jabbar, one of the all time greats. Right.
Alan Hahn
So this team, yeah, this team was nowhere. But, but, but, but also, again, it's a great question. I don't want to take anything away from Daniels. He's been amazing. But you know, you got the right coach, you got the right coordinator, you finally changed the owner. Ironically, you know, Magic rears his ugly head again. Right. For that. But no, but, but you know, that wasn't the only change. Would this be happening if Daniel Snyder was still the coach? Would this be happening if Ron Rivera was still their head coach and Snyder was the owner? Like, no, no, I don't. Listen, they'd be getting better quarterback play and they probably win a few more games than they did the year before, but I don't think they're playing in the championship game.
Don LaGreca
Who's to say they even take them? Right? Right. Who's to say you don't know when you got it, when you got a dysfunctional franchise like they were under Daniel Snyder. You never know what could happen. You can't possibly fathom what could happen.
Alan Hahn
Nope.
Don LaGreca
Because when you have bad ownership, bad leadership, anything can happen. And what you thought was the obvious pick, you know, like when, I don't know, Donovan Mitchell is sitting there, easy, easy draft pick and Phil Jackson's like, no, I'm going to take this French guy who can't shoot because that's a better pick. Anything can happen when you have poor leadership, everybody. 800 now we're on 3, 7, 7, 6. Our picks are coming up. So we got the five pointer and six pointer. We already know that, that, that Peter was a coward with his. Could have put a full six on his team, decided not to do it. I'm curious to see what Don's going to do, but I have a feeling I know. But before we get to that, let me introduce you to an SUV where everything for every passenger feels just right. It is the all new 2025 Infiniti QX80. Show me something, Alan. Show me something.
Don LaGreca
Don, Han and Rosenberg's. Pick them all. I mean, give me the three. All right, time for our pick segment. We got Peters already earlier in the show. He's taken the six points and his commanders with his five point and he's taken Buffalo and the one and a half points for his six pointer. Don McGregor. I think it's two guys. I think we're going with two?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, we're going with two.
Don LaGreca
What do we mean we're going with two? It's plus two.
Alan Hahn
Plus two.
Don LaGreca
The line is plus two.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
Last I saw an ESPN bet, I'm.
Alan Hahn
Staring at it right now. And that's when Peter had it as well in the show. Very fluid. So we're six and two is what you're saying?
Don LaGreca
Shows you how much I'm paying attention.
Alan Hahn
That's right. No, you're paying close attention. It's just not all over it like a degenerate gambler.
Don LaGreca
I will, I, I, I will be come Sunday. Minus a goal and a half tonight.
Alan Hahn
By the way, he did mention on the podcast earlier, so I like it.
Don LaGreca
All right. So Don, the Greco, the floor is yours.
Alan Hahn
You know how I feel about the Eagles, but I, I, I can't bet with my heart. I've got to bet with my head.
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Alan Hahn
Now the Eagles have not been overly impressive. They haven't but they won their home games and I, I just cannot see this continuing for the commanders now. I don't think they're going to win the game. So now the question comes down to will the Eagles cover the six? And I do think they'll cover it. It's going to be a competitive game, be a fun game and I think they will put a bunch of men on the box to try to stop Saquon. Remember, Saquon can also beat you coming out of the backfield. Hertz may not have a great day throwing the ball and he's got the knee. But you just heard from Schefter, they are not even concerned about him. So I think he might be playing possum as far as like injuries. So I could think he can still scramble by some time. He's got two world class wide receivers to throw the football to in Smith and Brown. So can it be a 1710 final? You know, a 14 7? I think it's gonna be a fun game but I do think I'm getting under a touchdown. So I'll take the Eagles minus six as my five point play. And I've been saying it, there's no reason to give you a bunch of analysis. I said winner of Ravens, Bills is winning the Super Bowl. This is the Bill's time. Well wait a minute, Don. They don't have a great defense, I get it. But Kansas City's offensive line, not great. And if you remember when the Chiefs lose, whether it's the Bengals in that championship game a couple of years ago or whether it was the super bowl against Tampa Buccaneers. It was getting pressure on Mahomes. This is not a team that scores a ton of points. I like the Bills. I think they will find a way to get through a very stout Kansas City defense. So I don't think we'll be exceptionally high scoring but I think it's Josh Allen's time. I think it's the Buffalo Bills time. I think the Bills win the game outright and that is my six point play.
Don LaGreca
I respect the fact that because you've been so strong on this topic about Josh Allen, the Bills, their time and also how much your hatred of seeing the Chiefs win. I respect the fact that you put the six on that one. The easier thing to do would have been the other game. So I respect that. So you and I are simpatico when it comes to our, our five pointers. I'm going to do the same thing. The more I've looked at it, researched it, you're right too. What Shefte kind of said about how there's zero concern about Jalen hurts in that knee in Philadelphia. I think six is right on the money. I, I think it's exactly there. I think their defense is stout. I throw, I'm throwing out that last time they met it was Kenny Pickett that was throwing as a quarterback in that game. And now you could say, well he put, you know, 33 points was put up by the Eagles. They gave up 36. But you know what, that also tells me that I've got film, I got tape, I see what you did and we can fix that. So I don't look at it as that's a harbinger for what's going to happen now in this matchup on the big stage. This is a more experienced team, it's a more experienced coaching staff when it comes to being at this level. They're the home team that's favored. So yes, give me the Eagles, I'll give you the six. That's my five pointer. I also have to be true to what I've been saying. I firmly believe in dynasties. I believe in teams of destiny. I also believe in greatness. And I have yet to see any reason to think that there has been any drop off when it comes to Patrick Mahomes and his greatness or Andy Reid and his their ability to win games, especially one score games. I said this earlier in the show. The Chiefs have won 16 straight one score games. They've won eight straight games at home. They have gone eight straight playoff games without a loss. They have gone eight straight games without A turnover. Do you notice a trend here? There is nothing suggesting that they are falling off. Yes, you want to believe it's Buffalo's time. I just don't think it is. And I just think the Chiefs are going to win this game. I'm going to lay the two one and a half. I'd even lay three on this thing. I'm taking the Chiefs. That's my six pointer.
Alan Hahn
All right, we have Ballard's picks. Thank God.
Don LaGreca
Well, listen, he's made people a lot of money if you listen to Ballard this year. Okay, six point play, Bills plus two, five point play, Commanders plus six. So he's going with the dogs, just like Peter. All right, well, there we go.
Alan Hahn
You make a good point about how efficient the Chiefs are. They don't make mistakes, they don't turn the ball over, they don't commit a ton of penalties and. But yet they don't blow anybody out. So at some point, man, the worms got to turn right. At some point, there's going to be a ball that bounces in the air that doesn't go your way. Like, they're so good and they're so perfect, but yet they hardly ever blow people out. So.
Don LaGreca
But doesn't that put pressure on you to be perfect? Which is a pressure that the team that is used to being perfect never feels.
Alan Hahn
But I got to tell you, it was because it was Houston. Like, Houston beat the Chiefs, but they missed field goals. They weren't good on special teams. I don't think that's going to happen to this Bills team. They're too experienced. And no offense to Houston, but you come out of a crappy division.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And you're not ready for that kind of stage. I think the Bills are in a different situation now. Have they. Have they won the big games? You know, have they gone to the Super Bowl? They haven't won a championship, but they've got tons of experience in the postseason. So I think they're the team that's going to be ready. When the Chiefs finally blink, I think it'll be the Bills to take advantage of it.
Don LaGreca
This is going to be huge now because, like, I'm. I'm still in it. I'm in second. Right. You felt, I believe you dropped to last, Right. Peters in first. So this is a big, big weekend when it comes to our picks.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, for sure it is.

Don, Hahn & Rosenberg Podcast - Hour 3: Schefter, Hurry Up, Picks Summary
Podcast Information:
[00:25] Don LaGreca introduces the episode, highlighting that Adam Schefter is joining the show to discuss important NFL topics, particularly focusing on the New York Jets' recent changes.
[01:17] Adam Schefter discusses the Jets' appointment of Aaron Glenn as the new head coach. He expresses confidence in Glenn's leadership and potential staff hires:
"I have faith in a football lifer that he's going to put together the right staff and the right people and everything's going to work out well for him."
[02:38] The conversation shifts to potential offensive coordinators, mentioning Nick Haley and Steve Wilkes. Schefter addresses concerns about Wilkes' frequent team changes:
"Steve Wilkes is a great man... it's not so much him as some of the places he's been."
[03:54] The hosts discuss the Jets' ongoing search for a General Manager (GM), mentioning potential candidates like Lance Newmark and Darren Muji. Schefter updates on the status:
"As of this afternoon, he hadn't received an offer and Lance Newmark hasn't received an offer. They may hire Darren Muji soon."
[05:22] Alan Hahn raises concerns about Aaron Glenn's lack of experience and questions why the Jets didn't consider seasoned coaches like Mike McCarthy. Schefter responds:
"You can't fault the Jets for not interviewing enough people. There must be a reason that they didn't feel like Mike McCarthy was right for their organization."
[06:31] Adam Schefter addresses Pete Carroll's ongoing coaching career at age 74, emphasizing Carroll's energy and effectiveness:
"He has more energy than people half his age. He is incredible."
He explains why the Las Vegas Raiders might opt to hire Carroll:
"They went for what they think is a sure thing to shore up their organization."
[08:06] The discussion moves to injuries affecting Jalen Hurts and Taylor Rap. Schefter notes:
"He’s got the knee. He’s going to wear a knee brace... they are not even concerned about him."
[09:51] Alan Hahn brings up concerns about Patrick Mahomes receiving more favorable calls from referees. Schefter clarifies:
"The numbers say that Josh Allen's gotten more calls this year... Mahomes hasn't gotten more calls than Josh Allen."
He compares this perception to historical biases in sports:
"There was the Jordan rules in basketball... Tom Brady got some calls."
[11:35] Alan Hahn questions if the NFL will address the use of the late slide to protect quarterbacks. Schefter anticipates discussions in the off-season:
"The competition committee is always meeting in the off-season. I'm certain that'll be a topic of conversation."
[12:06] Schefter shifts focus to a personal cause, advocating for type 1 diabetes screening:
"My wife is a type 1 diabetic... screening can give you valuable time to prepare."
He encourages listeners to take action:
"Go to screen4type1.com for more information."
[22:17] The hosts transition to the "Hurry Up" segment, taking calls from listeners about various NFL topics.
[22:33] Roxanne discusses whether Chiefs winning would benefit Jets fans by unseating Tom Brady's legacy. Adam Schefter humorously responds:
"If Mahomes could move past him... they'd be rooting for Mahomes because they hate Tom Brady."
[27:47] Gabriel asks about Jaden Daniels potentially having the greatest rookie season. The hosts debate comparisons to Magic Johnson and Joe DiMaggio, emphasizing the significance of winning a Super Bowl:
Don LaGreca: "He's the sixth rookie quarterback to start a conference championship game, so can he be the first one to win a Super Bowl? That remains to be seen."
[27:47] Justin inquires about Daniels' rookie season impact. The hosts discuss historical rookie performances and the necessity of winning the Super Bowl for Daniels to be considered among the greatest:
Alan Hahn: "If he somehow wins the Super Bowl, does it go up there with Magic Johnson?"
[39:17] The hosts engage in their picks segment, analyzing upcoming games with betting insights.
[40:13] Alan Hahn predicts the Eagles will cover a -6 spread:
"I think they'll cover it. It's going to be a competitive game... I'll take the Eagles minus six as my five point play."
[42:08] Adam Schefter confidently selects the Chiefs to win, highlighting their efficiency and postseason experience:
"I firmly believe in dynasties... I think the Chiefs are going to win this game."
[44:36] Don LaGreca acknowledges alignment with Schefter on their picks:
"You and I are simpatico when it comes to our five pointers."
