Don Hahn
this is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Don Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 880 ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers, 503 in the big city.
Rosenberg
Don in Rosenberg with you till 6:30. Then at Mets baseball Last night the Yankees had a big win over the Rays 5 to 1. Big because they've been playing terrible. But Cam, you know, comes through. But yet there's still issues, right? They were getting, there was a perfect game being thrown at them before Kabul Hero hit the three run home run in the fifth. And then Cabo Yarrow hits two home runs but there's no, he can't play shortstop because Volpe's got to play shortstop. So there's issues there. And then the Mets win, but Soto hits a big three run home run.
Don
Wait, wait, hold on.
Rosenberg
You got it.
Don
Hold on. Do you say, ladies and gentlemen, it's time for, for your New York Mets update.
Sports Analyst
So Soto hits a three run home run.
Rosenberg
Mets are down a run in the ninth inning, now take a 53 lead.
Sports Analyst
And then Williams comes in to get the save, but he gives up a two run home run to Olson and we go to extra innings. But in extra innings, Taylor gets the big double, scores two runs. Mets have to hold on for dear Life in the 10th inning and win the game 7 to 6. So the Mets do win, which is great, but again show problems with the bullpen not being able and lots of rumors surrounding Lindor possibly getting dope. And that's your New York Mets update. Now back to war news.
Don
It's not what you want.
Rosenberg
Interesting.
Don
It's not what you want.
Rosenberg
Interesting baseball last night where even in wins, it still shows that there are problems with the two teams. But that wasn't nothing last night. And I heard Michael in one of the promos talking about how, you know, Cam might be the guy that you want to pitch over everybody else right now because you, you know, Cole's going to pitch later on in this series, but he hasn't been great coming back from Tommy John. And you know, Rodon hasn't been able to get into the rotation just yet. And then the other guys, I think you're going to give the time of day to that. Isn't it amazing that it might be a kid that ends up saving them and might be the big game pitcher for them once they get to the postseason? But that was not nothing last night. I know it's just one game. They could turn around, lose the next three to the Rays, but that was a nice win to kind of stabilize things a little bit for them.
Sports Commentator
Well, you needed home runs.
Rosenberg
Well, three hits, three home runs, that's what you got.
Sports Commentator
That's. That's the problem though, right? Like, that's why that part of it, it's two walks and a home run. So you were getting, you were getting. It was perfect game. Two walks, you're still getting no hit home run. And that's all your offense was the long ball, which as we know, that's not sustainable. I just keep. To me, I come away with the fact that they've got a gem in this kid Schlitler. He's not only is he the real deal, he's the bulldog that we were just talking, weren't we talking about. Like you need, you need guys to be grinders when it's the worst time of year, right? When you're, when your team just can't get it right. You need somebody that's going to just show up and give you a big time performance. I thought he did that. I thought he was phenomenal. I mean, you're getting again, perfect game and he's got to try to match. He only gave up one hit throughout the beginning of that game, through the eighth. Yeah, but he was not letting them.
Rosenberg
He was terrific.
Sports Commentator
Get any runs. So he was the stopper, the ace, all those things. And I love the fact that this guy's got such a chip on his shoulder. Do we have him?
Rosenberg
Oh, we have him on bouncing back after the last outing.
Cam Schlitler (Player)
Yeah, I have one bad outing. So again, it was personal to go out there and just have a dominant start and put this team in the right position.
Rosenberg
And then he said, did you make any adjustments after last week?
Cam Schlitler (Player)
None really. Again, just stick to my strengths and try and do what I do best. And that's, you know, attack hitters with, you know, three fastballs.
Rosenberg
But there was one side I don't see it.
Sports Commentator
We don't have.
Rosenberg
But because you, you responded to it on the group that I, I just,
Sports Commentator
like I said, I thought him saying they want to say it's a blanking regression because I had one Bad outing. So, again, it was personal to go out there and have a dominant start and put this team in the right position. Now, can I ask you some criticisms from some people in baseball about that outing? As if it's.
Rosenberg
Who's they? That's what I want to know. Is he talking about people on social media, fans, or is he talking about his own team?
Sports Commentator
Yeah, no, not as I first. I'm like, with the. They think. Because, remember, Garrett Cole also barked Aaron Boone back into the corner when he was trying to take the ball from him after four innings. Right, right. And Cole was like, no, no, no, no. I'm going back out there. I don't care what the numbers are telling you. And I feel like that's the kind of stuff that you need right now. But apparently, though, this was not him barking at the analytics guys that were, you know, about his numbers, which is what I thought he was trying to suggest. But it wasn't that, apparently. It was about
Michael
Jared Karabas.
Sports Commentator
Yeah. Is it Jared Karabas. Yeah. Who then decided to say he was just tongue in cheek, saying that the regression is showing on Cam Schlitler?
Michael
Well, that's what he does. That's his thing.
Sports Commentator
Oh, yeah.
Michael
He's overly sarcastic about his hatred for the Yankees as a Red Sox guy. Michael's had him on the show before.
Sports Commentator
Okay.
Michael
And he knows that if he does those types of things, it'll get. He will rile up Yankee fans. And we know that Cam is not shy about using bulletin board fodder to make himself better.
Sports Commentator
And that's the overall point. Like, whatever.
Sports Analyst
I don't.
Rosenberg
I don't know.
Sports Commentator
Because I love it, though.
Rosenberg
I grew up with, you know, working with Greg Buttle, and Buttle always used to say bulletin board fodder. Come on. If you're a pro, if you need that to motivate you, there's something wrong.
Sports Commentator
But it's not to motivate you. It's the extra. Well, it's that. It's that I'm locked in. But now I'm like, now I'm still motivation.
Rosenberg
I mean, we're talking semantics here. But Greg was the outlier, is my point. Is that. All right. It didn't motivate Greg. Greg was an intellectual. He thought things differently.
Sports Commentator
He was always ready to go.
Rosenberg
He was always ready to go.
Sports Commentator
Yeah.
Rosenberg
But let's face it. We just had a team that is telling you we lack focus. And your ace, and he's your ace right now, had total focus for whatever reason, whether it's Carabas, whether it's the team. Whatever he got, he gave up four home runs against the Tigers. And he said, not today, brother. We're getting it down. And against a better team on the road, when his team needed it the most, won the game. That's what an ace is, a stopper. A guy that says, all right, no more losing streaks. We're going to get back to normal. You know, every fifth day I'm going to hit the mound and I'm going to get you back. And right now that's all they got. Cole's not that right now. Rodin's not here, Freed's not here. So that was a nice, nice effort.
Sports Commentator
So you get Will Warren tonight and I think Garrett is Garrett tomorrow.
Rosenberg
Garrett I think is tomorrow. And then game four is tbd because
Sports Commentator
that's where Don spot, right?
Rosenberg
Yeah.
Ian
So.
Rosenberg
So we're going to have to wait on that. So wanted to give you a quick update on the baseball. We've got lots going on at 6 o' clock with Ian and we're going to get out at 6:30 for more Mets baseball as they take on the Kansas City Royals. But just like the New Jersey Devils bring intensity on the ice, Viking pest control brings that same level of protection to your home. And I know this because I use Viking at my own place. The season may be over, but pests are always in play. So it's time to lock in your off season defense. As the pest control provider and proud partner of the devils, Viking delivers 45 years of trusted experience to keep ants, cockroaches, stinging insects, rodents, mosquitoes and more out of your zone. Their local team builds a personalized game plan that actually works. And when you bundle pest control, mosquito services, you score big. Savings one call, one company. Total peace of mind. Vikingpest.com is the way you visit protecting your home inside and out. It's that time of year, man.
Sports Commentator
Can I get you some NBA please? All right, what do you got, MBA here. Okay, do it. So the Knicks, as you know, they made everything official with the guys that they agreed to terms with, right? Because that was yesterday at 12. Everything. You can start now making all your deals official. So Jose Alvarado back, Landry Shamit back, they bring in Andre Drummond who's going to fill the center position that Mitchell Robinson has vacated. Drummond is still one of the top offensive rebounders in the NBA. One of the top rebounders in the NBA. His defense though is nothing anywhere near Mitchell Robinson. They're going to miss that. But big body can rebound and give you a little Bit of scoring, maybe make a free throw or two. So a nice, a nice addition there. Another center that. There was some talk that could have been connected to them was Kevon Looney. I didn't see it. Everybody said, well he, you know, Mike Brown was with him in Golden State. Maybe you'd bring in a veteran like that. Did not see Looney as a piece here. Well, Looney just signed the Lakers, so he's off the table. I still think the Knicks need one more seven footer. Like I still think they need a third piece because we know Towns is going to get into foul trouble in some games and you know, Drum is not going to play 35 minutes.
Don
No, you cannot count on Drummond for a ton.
Sports Commentator
So that's something to watch. DeMar DeRozan was bought out yesterday, I think as heard on ENN.
Don
That's right.
Sports Commentator
We talked about it. And DeRozan is another interesting player to watch here because you can get him for a veterans minimum. Does he want to go join a contender? Because remember he famously was traded away from Toronto when they got Kawhi and then they went on to win a championship. He spent all those years in Toronto, never got to be part of the championship. So for him, would New York be a place that he would consider because he could give them a lot of scoring off the bench now doesn't fit great because he's not a three point shooter. He's not a plus defender really anymore. But the guy can score and those guys are valuable. So a name you kind of want want to watch, that would be one of them. And then there's Jordan Clarkson and the Knicks would like to bring him back. It sounds like Clarkson wants to come back. And so that's another thing is if that's the case, that probably should have been done by now, but it hasn't been. So why. And something to watch there. And then the LeBron James of it all. We did talk about this a little bit, guys, but he's going to make a decision pretty soon, probably another week. And it does feel like it's either Cleveland or Golden State. That's to me what it feels like. Those are the two fines. Philly sounds nice. Miami doesn't make sense, but they're in apparently in the mix. But Golden State or Cleveland feels like the thing that makes the most sense. Donovan Mitchell just signed an extension there. Did you see how much.
Rosenberg
Yes.
Sports Commentator
He's going to get in his later years? 70 million and 75 million in a season his last two years.
Rosenberg
That's crazy.
Sports Commentator
70 million in a season. We're there now in a cap sport,
Rosenberg
by the way, baseball.
Caller/Guest
So.
Don
So we're going to.
Sports Commentator
Essentially, in a cap sport.
Don
So we're going to get to.
Sports Commentator
I believe Tatum's at the 70 million mark in his extension at some point. He's not there now, but he's going to be there, too. Like, we're starting to see the 70 million in a. In a single season for a player in the NBA. 70. That's wild.
Rosenberg
That is pretty crazy.
Sports Commentator
The raise payroll is 102, isn't it?
Rosenberg
I think so. Yeah, it's in.
Sports Commentator
Yeah, it's in the raise payroll.
Don
It means. It means if this. It means if they don't make the playoffs, if Cleveland doesn't make the playoffs, they play 82 and he plays every night, he will earn 853,000 a game.
Sports Commentator
God bless. So that's where we're at.
Don
So think about how much money is coming into this league.
Sports Commentator
He's getting that. You're hoping to get LeBron for, you know, a reasonable price. LeBron's going to bring in money if he goes there. So it's big for Dan Gilbert. Right. Do they really want to give James Harden an extension?
Rosenberg
No,
Sports Commentator
but they're gonna. Handshake agreement.
Rosenberg
But that doesn't mean they want to. They might have to.
Sports Commentator
Well, if LeBron wants to come to you, do you then tell Harden like, no, we're good. Might be bad business, but do you do it? So there's. That LeBron story is going to pop, and when it does, like I said, I know that the Jaylen Brown trade to the Philly is like a big headline, and what are they doing in Boston? Although Brad Stevens explained it, it. It is coming down to money now. But that LeBron story. This is going to be the farewell tour. Yes. It's going to be the end. So he, He. They were making New York a priority, and Rich Paul said, now it doesn't make sense, but if Jalen Brunson made the call, they could be back in. Should Jalen Brunson make the call?
Rosenberg
No, there's.
Sports Commentator
There's two spots, two roster spots available. I just, I gave you what's left. Jordan Clarkson, DeMar DeRozan, maybe another seven footer for two spots. If I, if I told you LeBron James could be one of them. If Jalen Brunson gave the blessing.
Rosenberg
Well, if Jalen Brunson gave the blessing, I think a lot of Nick fans would be like, well, anything Jalen wants.
Sports Commentator
But, well, I guess it's more of
Rosenberg
Take that out of the equation.
Sports Commentator
Like, if you're Brunson, would you. Would you give the blood? Would you say, yeah, yeah, like LeBron, we'd love to have you. They don't want to just come here. They want to be asked.
Rosenberg
Of course.
Sports Commentator
Clearly.
Rosenberg
Of course. But I.
Sports Commentator
But there's been no ask yet.
Rosenberg
I. Listen, I'm a petty person. Maybe not to the. Maybe not to the extent of Michael, but, like, he snubbed you. He trolled you by having his decision a stone's throw away from your practice facility, which I still believe was no coincidence.
Sports Analyst
I don't care.
Rosenberg
Tell me all you want about how much money the Boys Club in.
Sports Analyst
Stop.
Sports Commentator
Greenwich, Connecticut.
Rosenberg
Stop it.
Sports Commentator
You know who was in. In the crowd there? Donovan Mitchell. Yeah, he was one of the kids.
Rosenberg
Yeah, I remember that.
Caller/Guest
I remember that.
Rosenberg
And. And. And now he needs you.
Sports Analyst
He needs you.
Sports Commentator
Well, he wants for a.
Rosenberg
You're going to have your season. You're going to raise the banner on opening night, your first championship in 53 years, trying to repeat as a champion, and you're going to have all of that taken away by LeBron James farewell tour. Now you're not the Knicks anymore. Now you're LeBron James Farewell Tour. Like, every time you play a nationally televised game, it's going to be LeBron James on the Knicks taking on the Boston sun. All of a sudden, Jalen Preston.
Don
I don't know if that can happen. Well, I don't know if you think.
Rosenberg
I don't think it'll happen in New York.
Don
Not in New York. Jalen Brunson, at this point, he just can't overshadow the Knicks.
Rosenberg
I don't know, man. Outside of New York. First of all, not everybody's a Knick fan outside of New York.
Sports Commentator
So you don't think, just on paper, you don't think it's a bad idea? Well, listen, what comes with it is probably the problem.
Rosenberg
I think a lot that comes with it. Listen, could it help the Knicks? Sure. I mean, you're the defending champion.
Sports Commentator
Okay, he could help the Knicks, man.
Rosenberg
Yeah, of course, because he's LeBron James. But with it comes LeBron James and his farewell tour, and it's kind of about LeBron. It'll never be the case in New York because New York still cares about the Knicks. But like. And maybe you don't care how other people think, but outside of New York, the defending champions now become LeBron's team. LeBron's farewell tour. LeBron this, LeBron that.
Sports Commentator
When Luka went to the Lakers. It became Luka. It was all Luca. LeBron was feeling away because he kind of felt pushed to the side. He didn't like that because it really did become all Luca. I don't think Jalen Brunson takes a back seat.
Rosenberg
Not in New York. Not in New York. But again, I think Rich Paul made
Sports Commentator
this clear, that that's why the Knicks, who were on the whiteboard, were kind of like taken off the list when they won the championship, because Rich even knows what comes with LeBron. And I said this. What comes with LeBron coming to a place like New York is so much extra that it's like. It doesn't really make sense. And. And. And I think the way he put it was. And they didn't want to bring that and kind of, first of all, not distract people, but just sort of be add to it. And second of all, some people are surmising. He also didn't want to come here. And then let's say they don't make another run. And they're like, yeah, LeBron came, ruined everything. Right?
Ian
No, I'm just saying.
Rosenberg
Messed the whole thing up.
Sports Commentator
They don't want that.
Rosenberg
But here is the ultimate reason why you don't do it.
Sports Commentator
Okay?
Rosenberg
Everything LeBron is trying to do is about LeBron. LeBron's farewell tour, LeBron trying to get another ring. It's all about LeBron.
Sports Commentator
Yeah.
Rosenberg
That's not what the Knicks are. The Knicks are all about the Knicks.
Ian
Yes.
Rosenberg
Every player being all in on the team.
Sports Analyst
Right.
Rosenberg
And now you get to bring in that single entity that is only in it. He doesn't care about the Knicks, doesn't
Sports Analyst
care about the fans.
Rosenberg
All he cares about is his legacy. Adding another championship to the legacy. That's why all of a sudden, it became less attractive because they already won.
Sports Commentator
To be fair, in his words, where he wants to go is a place where he can enjoy playing basketball.
Rosenberg
I'm not saying he wouldn't enjoy playing basketball.
Sports Commentator
He's not a team that you would enjoy playing with.
Rosenberg
He would, but he's one of the
Sports Commentator
great facilitators in the history of the game. He wouldn't be asked to be. Carry a load to score, carry a load for defending, be everything for us. No, you know what? He'd be asked to be get on the bus.
Rosenberg
I know. And he might be asked to get on the bus. And maybe he would.
Sports Commentator
He might like it.
Rosenberg
But still, it's his farewell tour. It's him trying to get another ring. It's still about LeBron. And I'm not criticizing him. 40s LeBron James.
Sports Commentator
Yeah.
Rosenberg
It's just a lot to add to a team that, where their biggest star is. Hey, I'm all about the team, you know, and, and LeBron James could talk about being all about the team, but this is a guy that's bounced around worried about his legacy, his farewell tour
Sports Commentator
that's in his prime. But I feel, look, this is all,
Rosenberg
you know, you know the situation better than I do, but just it doesn't seem to be the fit to the image of what the Knicks are about and why they won the championship in the first place.
Sports Commentator
I'm only. Look, first of all, it's hypothetical and I'm certainly not pushing like for it.
Rosenberg
No, I think it's.
Sports Commentator
I don't, I don't think it's.
Rosenberg
And I heard Ty Butler last weekend talking about. I don't know why Nick fans wouldn't want him.
Sports Commentator
Yeah. And that's why I just wanted to bring it up because he hasn't made a decision yet. There was this very interesting caveat of, you know, Brunson would have to reach out. And I found that interesting along with the news of Brunson. He's going to have minor, a minor procedure done in his forearm. And I'm trying to figure out when it happened because the guy. I thought for sure we'd hear something about the knee or the ankle with all the many times that he got hit and got hurt during this playoff run. But he's not expected to have any
Rosenberg
effect on two months.
Sports Commentator
Yeah, he'll be ready to go in September. But it's just though, knowing just how much is the burden is on Brunson going into next season and understanding that it'd be nice to use the regular season as a way to coast a little bit and then go into the playoffs and then be like, hey, remember us like this shouldn't be. Any fan should not go into the season thinking the Knicks should go win 65 games. No, that's not what they're going to be.
Don
Well, they're going to be that.
Sports Commentator
No, but I'm saying. Because they want a championship now.
Don
No, no, it's going to pop.
Sports Commentator
No, this is cruise control. 50 wins. And then when you get to the playoffs, remind everybody who you are. But when you. The better depth you have, the more you can do a season like that. And when I'm looking at the depth, that's why I'm saying I gave you DeRozan Clarkson a random seven footer and then the wild card, LeBron James and there's not a little part of you that goes, boy, if LeBron is like your seventh or eighth guy could be interesting.
Don
I just.
Sports Commentator
Am I crazy? Like, I am not. I'm not saying it's happening. I don't think it is. But because it's fun to talk about,
Don
it's a fun thing to explore. But the idea is there's no way you can have someone like him on your team and not have it completely change the composition of the team. The room just, it doesn't work.
Sports Commentator
I think, I think you're both right.
Rosenberg
Even if he doesn't intend to do just comes with it.
Sports Commentator
I think you're both right.
Don
But it's fun. It's fun to speculate on.
Sports Commentator
But I'll tell you though, right, like,
Don
and you never know what happens in a season, right? Like, you never know what player goes down and then you're going, oh, we kind of.
Rosenberg
And I think Brunson reaching out would get the fans on board. Hey, whatever Brunson was, I think you're right. But I don't know. It's interesting.

1-800-919-3776. Let's dive back into the busy phone. Steve's in New Jersey. You're on ESPN New York.
Caller/Guest
Hi, Steve.
Don
Oh, no.
Rosenberg
Steve, baby, what do you got going on? Let's listen in.
Ian
Okay?
Sports Commentator
Big business.
Ian
All right, sure.
Caller/Guest
Come back on later.
Don
Hey, what's up, bud?
Caller/Guest
Hi.
Don
How you doing?
Rosenberg
Steve?
Sports Commentator
Oh, good.
Don
Steve O. How you doing?
Rosenberg
Talk to me, Steve. You haven't on hold that long that all of a sudden you decided to do something else.
Don
It's crazy.
Cam Schlitler (Player)
Steve.
Don
Hello.
Rosenberg
I need to know everything that was just going on every week. Leave nothing out.
Sports Commentator
Close that deal.
Caller/Guest
It's.
Rosenberg
Leave nothing. Did you close?
Sports Commentator
I just want to say you're coming off a pole.
Caller/Guest
No, no, no.
I'm actually at work.
Ian
I was talking to my supervisor, so I don't understand how players such as LeBron James, any team would not benefit having him on the team. He's literally Peyton Manning, Tom Brady, Mariano, like, the guy can't do anything wrong on the court. Last year he had this 23, 7, 6 with one block. And I know that's what a depleted lineup in la, you had to do that. But he doesn't want to do that. That's the reason why he's leaving. So he can literally be what Dwyane
Caller/Guest
Wade was to him when he went to Miami. He can be that on another team.
Ian
So I cannot want him on the
Sports Analyst
team because I'm not.
Ian
I don't see any negatives to him
Caller/Guest
being on any team.
Ian
I really don't.
Sports Commentator
He's that great.
Rosenberg
But it's. And it's not even his fault, Steve, because I do think everything you're saying is true. I think he's longing to just play basketball, not be the captain, not be the leader, not be the. But it's still LeBron James in the room for a team that won because they were not about the individual, they were all about the team. And he's just such a big, monstrous name. Like, honestly, they're all human beings, right?
Sports Commentator
I think so.
Rosenberg
They're after a game, the biggest scrum is going to be around LeBron James. National media is going to be following him around the entire year because it's his last year, it's his goodbye tour. So that means it's going to be a circus. Not only do they have the defending champions coming to town, but LeBron James is coming to Golden State for the last time. He's going to Cleveland for the last time. There's going to be all this national media. Brunson is going to drop 40, he's going to hit the game winning shot, and then after the game, everybody's going to be around LeBron James asking him what's going on.
Sports Commentator
And you know what? Jalen Brunson won't give a damn because he doesn't care.
Sports Analyst
I know.
Sports Commentator
I don't worry about Jalen and LeBron.
Rosenberg
But the rest of the team.
Sports Commentator
I saw this with Kobe, with LeBron. He will be at a podium. It will never be in the locker room, okay? Every single post game.
Rosenberg
But he goes in these places will
Sports Commentator
be on a podium.
Rosenberg
I'm not talking about. Listen, Brunson's just out of this world, right? But just the rest of the team.
Sports Commentator
I played with a bum arm. And in the finals, 45 on the road.
Rosenberg
But that doesn't mean he got everybody to jump on board. Put your egos aside. Let's win the championship. So even without LeBron James, that's going to Be difficult to do again.
Sports Analyst
Right.
Rosenberg
Because now they've won already. And then you know how, like, egos and pride kind of mess around makes it even harder now because guys have got theirs.
Sponsor/Ad Reader
Right.
Rosenberg
And now in comes LeBron James. It just adds another dynamic that's just so anti Nick, and it's going to be difficult for Brunson.
Sports Commentator
Very fair.
Rosenberg
That's very fair. I just.
Sports Commentator
No, no. The presence, the aura, everything. The weight of a LeBron James coming into that locker room and being part of what they became, it has to disrupt it. It's going to make it different how he fits himself in, though. Like, if he does it the right way, it could be special. And what a special way for him to go out. But if he doesn't do it the right way, it could really ruin everything. And I think that's the danger part. And if I'm rich, Paul, that's why I don't want to do this. Because, well, win or, like, if they lose, it's your fault if they win.
Rosenberg
Yeah.
Sports Commentator
Well, all you did was coattail a championship that already.
Rosenberg
There's not a lot of positive around
Sports Commentator
LeBron coming here other than a ring and his career.
Caller/Guest
Right.
Rosenberg
And. Right.
Sports Commentator
That's.
Rosenberg
That's a big deal. But going back to Cleveland, kind of the same.
Sports Analyst
That.
Rosenberg
That's Golden State. That's why I thought Philadelphia would be different, because you'd be ending a streak they hadn't won in 43 years. There's something special to that.
Don
This is all a fun chit chat, but I like. Listen, I like. I like playing with Tonka Trucks much. The next guy, okay, he's going to Cleveland.
Sports Commentator
I've made that clear. I said this is.
Don
I know. It's like, it's.
Rosenberg
We know, man.
Sports Analyst
We know.
Sports Commentator
You just walked in and just kicked
Don
over all the blocks.
Rosenberg
And, you know, every day we've got
Sports Commentator
this sandcastle, it's almost done, and they walk right there, just kick.
Sports Analyst
He didn't kick it down.
Rosenberg
He just walked through it like he wasn't even there.
Caller/Guest
Right through it.
Don
I mean, as we keep going back every day.
Caller/Guest
Yeah.
Rosenberg
I say, enn's great. I know. It's great. You do it every day, but I still promote that. It's going to be great.
Don
Sure, right?
Rosenberg
We talk.
Don
Yeah.
Rosenberg
This is what we do.
Don
No, I know.
Rosenberg
It's just hard for me to actually have that meaning.
Don
I know. But it's hard for me to get into the nitty gritty of the argument when.
Caller/Guest
I know.
Sports Analyst
But, like, what was the.
Rosenberg
What was the last one? We Thought was fun. Oh, the Tonka. The last Tonka truck that you stepped on. The last sand castle that I walked.
Don
I walked right through was.
Rosenberg
Was burrowed to the Jets.
Sports Commentator
Oh, yeah, that was one. I never been prouder of that. And by the way, that, like, Seabist
Don
and by the way, that one, I just want to be clear. That one. Allen was like, 1. At least 5% more believed it was possible like this.
Don Hahn
He knows.
Sports Commentator
Yeah, yeah.
Don
That one, he put like 10%.
Sports Commentator
What I'm doing here with LeBron is letting you know by talking about it that they want it. And 16 years later, after this time of year, I was. I followed that man around for two months back then. I went everywhere he went, and then it ended. So 16 years later, it's sort of like a full circle. Isn't it crazy to see and hear Rich talking about how, like, well, if they didn't win the chip, we were definitely going there. And then it's, you know, if Jalen reaches out and I could see it. It's insane. They want this. They want this. They just know this is not the time. Which makes Cleveland the more obvious place.
Don
But then, guess what? That means there's no more time. Right? This one's the last one.
Sports Commentator
We. Yeah, I mean, I think it's.
Don
It's got to be.
Sports Commentator
It's feeling like he's going to be 42 years old, man.
Don
I mean, listen, I can't be sure because.
Sports Commentator
And he's still high level.
Ian
That's.
Don
I was going to say, if LeBron at his absolute greatest was a 10, this guy's still playing seven and a half, 7.75 basketball.
Sports Commentator
Couple of things to also think about in New York. Him being here and his brand being here for a year could reap him lots of rewards financially. Okay, that's one. Two. Him playing in Cleveland and calling it a day there could end up with him moving into ownership at some point. And I know he wants to own an NBA team, but can't that happen
Rosenberg
even if he goes and closes his career someplace else?
Sports Commentator
No.
Don
Really?
Sports Commentator
No, because it's. Dan Gilbert owns the Cavs. And, you know, obviously they have their connection. They've had good and bad moments. But still, if there's ever a place for LeBron to become an easy face of the franchise into ownership once he retires, Cleveland is the obvious place. It's home. It's the team. It's the franchise he put on the map. Right.
Rosenberg
Honestly, I mean, so who was the second? I can't. You can't answer that. Because obviously the second best would be somebody to play with. LeBron, like Kyrie might be in the conversation of all time.
Sports Commentator
Cav.
Rosenberg
Is it Brad Dougherty. I mean, that's how far back you got to go.
Sports Commentator
Brad Daugherty and Mark Price, you know, we're forgetting. What are you forgetting? I mean, Clyde Frazier played there for a year.
Don
Gerald Wilkins.
Sports Commentator
Yeah, that's pretty good.
Don
Sean Kemp for a stint, I believe.
Sports Commentator
Yeah. Not a good one, though. Not a good one. Yeah.
Don
No, it wasn't.
Rosenberg
I thought he was there. Just not a good example. That's what you're saying.
Don
Ron Harper. Ron Harper. Larry Nance.
Sports Commentator
Larry Nance. That was a good. Those are good teams back.
Rosenberg
This is not a no star studded list. No, this is what this is. That's more like Mark Sasso softball,
Caller/Guest
which
Rosenberg
would get a huge crowd.
Don
Danielle McCartney, I think was on the.
Sports Commentator
Can we. Can we.
Don
Gabs at that time. Just naming Sasso people now.
Rosenberg
Ken Danico.
Don
Danico. I think Dano was there for a. Brian O'.
Rosenberg
Halloran.
Cam Schlitler (Player)
Yeah.
Rosenberg
August 22nd, by the way.
Sports Commentator
Yeah.
Rosenberg
I actually had a conversation with Rachel Herzog trying to get her to go. She says she's got a bum shoulder. I said we're not trying to win.
Sports Commentator
No, she has to go. Just so I could bring Cali.
Rosenberg
Oh, yeah, she's a fan.
Ian
Yeah.
Rosenberg
Yeah, Gracie is, too.
Sports Commentator
Gracie will be busy.
Don
Peter's promise.
Rosenberg
Alan, you're good to go, right?
Sponsor/Ad Reader
Yeah.
Sports Commentator
All right, I'm in.
Rosenberg
And then I'm trying to get Stephanie.
Sports Commentator
I'm trying to get Marty Lyons so she could play. Stephanie can hit the hell out of the ball.
Rosenberg
We're not trying to win. We're trying to get celebrity.
Sports Commentator
I know, but I'd rather hear there
Rosenberg
for her celebrity than. So I love you. Trying to convince.
Sports Commentator
I just love watching her.
Don
Get her to put out a project between now and then. They can really put her on the map.
Sports Commentator
Like I said, for me, it's just. It's personal. I like. No, I'm a big fan.
Rosenberg
God bless.
Don
We're not trying to be your appetizer. You know what I mean?
Rosenberg
Yeah. I'm sure there's some hotels on the way home.
Caller/Guest
Yeah.
Don
So isn't there to be aphrodisiac?
Michael
Okay.
Sports Commentator
I told you guys one time she went with me hit golf balls early on in our time together.
Michael
Okay.
Sports Commentator
She had a mini skirt on. We were going out, but we had time to kill.
Caller/Guest
Here we go.
Sports Commentator
She had heels on.
Don
Oh, yeah.
Sports Commentator
And I knew she played softball, so I knew she could hit. So I'M like, you want to swing? She's like, I'll try.
Ian
Yeah.
Sports Commentator
The whole place stopped to watch her. See in her heels, little wiggle. Smoked it smoked.
Rosenberg
And then Alice and then swinging.
Sports Commentator
And then. And then handed me the club and said, is that good? And then walked away, like walking. Sat down on the bench. I'm like, that's just unreal. Yeah.
Don
That's when you knew foreplay.
Sports Commentator
That's when you knew exactly.
Rosenberg
Let's go to John in Freehold. You're on espn, New York. What's up, John?
Caller/Guest
Hey, good evening, guys. How you doing?
Ian
Good. Alan.
Caller/Guest
I want to address this. I want to address this to you, Alan, because you and I have felt the pain over the years with this Knickerbocker franchise, and I'm still in shock, to be honest with you, that they've won it. I'm so elated right now, and I'm so happy and proud of the franchise as a whole, and I want to keep it going. I want to. I want to win.
Ian
Back to back it has.
Caller/Guest
That's the next challenge for this franchise as I see it, Alan, because it hasn't been done in so long. So that's got to be the message. The mantra from Coach Brown is, let's do it again in a while.
Sports Commentator
That's why they're saying run it. That's why the run it back thing for them is something personal. And why, you know, John, I think this is one of those, you know, three to four. Can you get. Can you get one more in the next three years, then you've got yourself?
Sponsor/Ad Reader
That's.
Sports Commentator
I think that back to back is really hard to do, but getting two in a three or four year span, that's. That's pretty, pretty solid.
Caller/Guest
Well, the way I look at it is this, Alan, I'm a firm believer whether you win a championship or not, that you need to refresh your roster every year, okay? You need to bring in new blood. You need to bring in guys that have an edge and have a purpose and a goal, that they're fighting hunger, right? So with that being said to me, to me, LeBron James is a sideshow in a circus that the Knicks absolutely, positively do not need.
Ian
The move.
Caller/Guest
There's two moves the. The Knicks should make that would fortify this roster, give Coach Brown layers of players that have diversified skill sets, okay? And what I would do is this two moves. First move is I'm going to swap Jordan Clarkson for DeMar DeRozan, because DeMar DeRozan has an edge. He hasn't won the title. He's got something to play for. He's a multi time all star. His, his in game is phenomenal.
Ian
He's.
Caller/Guest
He would give the Knicks another ball handler. He's a big clutch shooter as well. I think that would be the move.
Sports Commentator
I don't hate it.
Caller/Guest
And we'll praise him with, with the Mod DeRozan. And the other move is Deuce McBride very much like Mitchell Robinson. I look at it this way, Alan. Mitchell Robinson over the past several years has been hurt and banged up. Same thing with Deuce McBride. And Mitch was coming up for a payday and he got the bag and. Right. And he deserves it. I don't want to Nick. Always a Nick. I wish him the absolute best.
Sports Commentator
Okay.
Caller/Guest
But I look at the same situation with Deuce McBride. Now Alan, who's big bride is going to get ready to make some serious money. Now he's a guy that's gotten exposure. He's a guy that's got value. I would look to make him a centerpiece of a package to acquire the 21 year old Pelican center, bring him in here and develop him and have him elevate his game to another level. And then you've solidified yourself at the center spot with a veteran Drummond and a young rising player that's not making any money as at the 21 year old Pelican Center. And like I said, you got the Rosen coming here. I also want to make Tyler Kolik, put him in a more prominent role.
Sports Commentator
Okay.
Caller/Guest
So those are the three things that I would look to do going forward into next season.
Sports Commentator
Okay.
Caller/Guest
Well, I think that would elevate them and give them a real strong chance of repeating.
Sports Commentator
All right, John? Well, I know they've tried to get Yves me see from the Pelicans. And you know, the Pelicans are saying we're not shopping them, we're not trading. So they, they've, they've said no. I'm sure if you're going to make a move like that, I would think Deuce is probably going to be part of it because you have Alvarado. And if you do move on from Deuce at any, for any reason, it just moves Kolik up a slot anyway. But I. Yeah, look, the DeRozan thing's a very interesting one. I know we're having fun with the LeBron thing, but I would keep an eye on the DeRozan thing. I find that to be very interesting. I don't know how he fits, but it's hard to turn down Somebody that can average 18 to 20 a game who you know at this late in his career is starving for a title

There's also still soccer going on. What do we have here?
Don
We have these and it's Switzerland and Colombia and they're still scoreless down the stretch here of regulation. I listen, I've been obviously I'm in and out. We're chatting. So I look up and I see where they're At. I have not seen anything really close in what I've been watching. Well, but we're sitting here at 00 to find out who will go on to face Argentina after their ridiculous comeback win against Egypt. I've got. I feel so bad. There are so many teams in this tournament who felt like they were on the verge of a massive upset and it just fell apart. Democratic Republic of Congo, Senegal, now Egypt. It just seemed like so many games. There were these teams. They could sniff it. Cape Verde.
Sports Commentator
Oh, yeah.
Don
And they were sitting there like, we're through. And then before you know it, the big dog just kept coming back. And oh, my goodness, that was very close for Switzerland.
Rosenberg
Just wide. Let's go to George on the Lower east side. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, George?
Caller/Guest
Hey, what's going on? My people listen first and foremost, funny. Gotta echo the last caller. We don't want that circus in LeBron James, honestly speaking, he. The whole waiting for another team to see who's. He's just waiting to see who's built the best so he can find the easiest way to get a ring.
Ian
We don't need that.
Caller/Guest
And then on top of that, we might have to wait to save a spot for his son and all. We don't need none of that. We don't want him. We don't want kd. We did it without them. So honestly speaking, they need to find a way to get it on their own. Now, in regards to moves, Deuce needs to be in the trade. Love him, love what he's brought to us. But truth of the matter is, in. In two years, we've lost Hardenstein and we lost Mitchell Robinson, and they both walked. We can't let that happen with Deuce and we don't have the money to keep him. So, yes, I would love Missy. I would also love the abate. There's a couple of centers out there that we could build from. And I would love to have a five and move Cat to the four.
Sports Commentator
That's not going to happen. He's a five. That starting five is not changing. That's the one thing you're not going to see happen. Then I'm moving him over.
Rosenberg
Let's go to. Hey, Richard in Manhattan. You're on ESPN New York. What's up?
Caller/Guest
Richard,
I saw you on Bruce Beck, Alan, I saw you on Bruce Beck Sunday night three weeks ago. You look great. You should be a regular. You should be on every Sunday with Bruce. That guy is the most underrated sports announcer in New York. You Never hear anything about Bruce. But Sunday night. Oh, you had a great look. No socks, sport jacket, open collar. You look cool without trying to look cool. Alan, you were great and it was great.
Rosenberg
That's kind of cool.
Caller/Guest
Yeah, you were great last night. What a night in Major league baseball and in sports in general. First of all, the soccer team has nothing to apologize. The fact that Belgium was worried about the US striker, that was great. Are you kidding? Who in a million years would think a European team would worry about a player on the US playing or not. That was great. As far as baseball, how can the Yankees. This was probably their worst game in their last three weeks and they win it. Seven out of the nine guys go over 23 last night. They strike out 17 times and they still win the game. And then you see the Phillies and Royals. The best pitcher in baseball, Sanchez gives up nine runs. His ERA goes up from 1.9 to 2.6 in one game. And then the Met game back in fought. I'm telling you guys sports, you cannot make it up. The only thing I was disappointed, Naomi Osaka today lost. I would have loved to have seen her win. That would have been great. That would have been a great comeback story to see her do it. But fellas, what a night in sports. And it's going to keep going because there's always storylines with this stuff. Always great stuff to watch. Fellows, always a pleasure.
Rosenberg
Thank you guys.
Don
The only thing in my life that I like that I've ever loved as much as Richard loves sports is breast. I believe that is honestly the. There's no, there's no comp. You hear what this man says.
Sports Commentator
It's very relatable what you said.
Don
Thank you very much. No, honestly. And by the way, and respectfully to myself and I'm Talking about like 15 year old me, like I mean now it's. He surpassed it. Have you ever heard he said last night a night in which the U.S. soccer team was Franced and embarrassed and and the Mets and Yankees both played baseball games. He said you can you imagine what happened last night? No, Adan, imagine loving last night. He sounded like me and Alan after Mexico, England.
Sports Commentator
Yeah. Except last night was nothing close to that. But I can actually, I forgot to bring this up. Ben Rice going to participate in the home run there like you dream about in Philly.
Rosenberg
So there should be a time.
Sports Commentator
Don't love that.
Don
Why everyone's great after the Home Run Derby.
Cam Schlitler (Player)
You know what I mean?
Sports Commentator
Well, yeah, he's 25 home runs, he's pitching, he's hitting the ball. I know he's been a little off because no Judge. I don't need him coming back from this thing with shot.
Don
It does happen. It's weird. You don't think it would be a thing. It can be a thing.
Sports Commentator
It is an old. But it can be.
Don
Can be.
Sports Commentator
And like, that's one where I'm like, I'm good because there's enough Indian.
Rosenberg
Judge has been out. Maybe he would help him, you know, get going. He did have home run last night.
Sports Commentator
It's a good story. He's gonna have his dad, I think, throw right for him like that.
Don
And what a huge Major league baseball go.
Sports Commentator
Don't get out of the first round. Call it a day.
Rosenberg
You might have to root against him.
Sports Commentator
But, I mean, it's not affected Alonzo though, right? Alonzo never had to.
Rosenberg
No, he just.
Sports Commentator
He was just going swing forever when
Rosenberg
they invented the home run Derby. Even though Alonzo.
Don
It was made for Pete Alonso home.
Don Hahn
It's.

Caller Steve stands firm: LeBron helps any team, draws Brady/Manning/Mariano comps.
Rosenberg counters: The "circus" around LeBron could upend the Knicks’ culture.
Other callers echo concerns—LeBron’s arrival is a distraction, not needed for this Knicks group.
Alternative moves floated: Jordan Clarkson, DeMar DeRozan, young centers (like Yves Missi), and making Deuce McBride a trade centerpiece.
“To me, LeBron James is a sideshow in a circus that the Knicks absolutely, positively do not need.”

This lively, wide-ranging episode confirms that while the Yankees and Mets can celebrate wins, deep-seated issues linger. Cam Schlittler emerges as a glimmer of hope for the Yankees rotation, but skepticism persists. For Knicks fans, the big question is whether the chance to host LeBron James is a blessing or a curse—the city’s sports psyche demands loyalty to the team and culture first, with multiple callers and hosts agreeing the “LeBron circus” is more risk than reward. Ultimately, Cleveland seems the most likely destination for LeBron’s final act, leaving Knicks fans to debate more conventional (and less distracting) ways to “run it back.”
