Peter Rosenberg
This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Don Hahn
That sounds like heaven to me.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 880 ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
Don Hahn
Now. What era do you want to go back with the Giants for me, because I. One of them, one of the guys that jumped in the mind is one of my strange pulls for the Giants was Percy Ellsworth. But a great nose for the football. I think there was one year he had like five or six interceptions. If you want to go back like a long time ago, you know, Gary Shirk, tight end and, you know, just different, you know, strange pulls football. You have so many, so many guys. And there was another one. He was the starting nose tackle on the 81 team that finally went to the playoffs. Bill Neil. I don't know if any. A lot of Giant fans remember him. He was a really good player.
Peter Rosenberg
How about Perry Williams?
Don Hahn
Perry Williams was a good one. Or Elvis Patterson? That's also Toast, as they called him, which is not the nickname you want when you play in the secondary of a football team. But that was his nickname for sure. I want to bring. I'm going to play a game with all of us here and don't think too hard about it. But we'll start with Peter. He's a big football guy. Your first Redskin quarterback from my childhood. Well, it's a little bit complicated because obviously when I was a little kid, like Joe Theisman was the guy. Okay. Well, then I. But it wasn't. But I wasn't really a fan yet. Like, my, my first really being a fan was probably Jay Schrader.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don Hahn
But I think like Jay and Doug Williams were going back and forth. But for the purpose of this exercise, I think Spiderman's the better answer because it's the first one you remember. Yeah, yeah. I wasn't like a big fan. You don't have to be a big fan. It's like.
Peter Rosenberg
But you knew who he was.
Don Hahn
Your first quarterback. Like, who's your first quarterback?
Peter Rosenberg
Richard Todd.
Don Hahn
Richard Todd to you.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, it wasn't. I didn't want to Sorry, Anthony. Your first quarterback, Terry Collins.
Caller/Listener
Wow. Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
He's so young.
Don Hahn
I was in the business. I was running to the family.
Peter Rosenberg
So when you mean the business, you mean the.
Don Hahn
All right, Jacob. It was either Vinnie Testaverde or Chad Pennington.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh my God.
Don Hahn
I was doing Jet games when Chad Bennington was drafted. I'm so old. You are very old. Well my first quarterback wasn't even full
Peter Rosenberg
time when you were watching Vinny Testaverde. I was a part timer at Newsday.
Don Hahn
My first quarterback and I tweeted it out last night was Craig Morton.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh wow.
Don Hahn
The Giants were not very good in the late 70s. So this is like 70. The first season I really remember was 76. So just before Joe Psarchik who fumbled the ball in 78 and everything. The Herman Edwards play. Craig Morton was my guy. Was the. Was my first quarterback and of course he was the quarterback of the Denver Broncos when they lost the super bowl to the Cowboys through seven picks did go to a Super bowl. Played in a Super bowl after the Giants but. And he passed away. They found it was 83. I guess he passed away Saturday and it was finally announced by the Broncos and by the Giants last night. So I thought about that and I tweeted out so my first quarterback. So I think for the. So 76. I was 8. So how old were you with Eisman then? You were probably six. Yeah, because I think that's the better answer.
Peter Rosenberg
Right?
Don Hahn
Like when you. When I finally became a fan and
Peter Rosenberg
rooting for the team.
Don Hahn
Phil Sims would be the answer. Right? Because. But Phil Sims was drafted in 79. I was already 11 years old. Watching every game, understanding the sport a little different. I think kind of goes back a little bit before that like you're just understanding the game. Your dad's explaining his stuff and who the quarterback was. That's why I think Theisman's the better answer for you. I see what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
Papa Pusick chimed in Papa Pusick. Papa Pusick.
Don Hahn
Oh, this is good because how old's your dad again?
Additional Caller/Guest
74.
Don Hahn
All right. That make no offense to your dad. That makes me feel better. I thought you were going to say 54. And you're Joe, which is possible but good. I'm a big fan of your dad. Is he feel he's feeling better. Everything's good.
Additional Caller/Guest
He's feeling better.
Don Hahn
All right, excellent. So. So who is his. Let me see if I can guess if he's 74. If he's 8. So it would probably be ya tittle it's ya tittle.
Additional Caller/Guest
That's right.
Don Hahn
Is that right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah. Why Tittle?
Don Hahn
Yeah. Charlie Connerly. He's not old enough for that. The thing is, did you ever hear the story about how Pat Summerall got on television? Charlie Connerly is at the end of his career, he roommate with Pat Summerall, who was, who was basically in effect the kicker. He played other positions, but he was the kicker, giant kicker in 58, you know, kicked the game when he field goal in the playoffs against the Browns to get him into the greatest game ever played. They lost to the Colts. I think CBS was calling to talk to Charlie and Pat answered the phone. So he took the audition because Charlie was like in the shower or something and Pat Summerall becomes like the voice of my childhood.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait a second. Yeah. Did he ever tell Charlie?
Don Hahn
I don't know. I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
Or did he figure.
Don Hahn
I don't think either of them are still with us, but.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don Hahn
So. All right, so Ya Tittle.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, good one.
Don Hahn
His fault is reading the riot act right now.
Peter Rosenberg
Huh?
Don Hahn
Because he went with Collins because He
Peter Rosenberg
gave him two extra years that he needed to. Yeah.
Additional Caller/Guest
He's 72. I did that.
Don Hahn
Oh, that's.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, what do you do?
Caller/Listener
He's not happy with me right now.
Don Hahn
No. Why should he be?
Peter Rosenberg
No, he's not happy with me at all.
Don Hahn
Wow. You want to insult your mother while you're at it too?
Caller/Listener
No, I think I'm.
Don Hahn
God. Why? You have the airtime? Definitely not going to.
Caller/Listener
No.
Additional Caller/Guest
I won't say how old she is.
Don Hahn
All right, so lot on the table to talk about because again the Knicks are not going to play until probably a week from now. But that's been solidified by the fact that the Cavs won game four. So they even the series up at two against Detroit. Got a good one tonight. That's going to be on 1050. And I should mention this. Game time brought to you by Tullamore. Do Irish Whiskey because when it's game
Peter Rosenberg
time,
Don Hahn
it's tolly time. Mets back home facing the Tigers with coverage immediately following us on 880 at 6:30. AJ Ewing in the lineup called up and he will play center field about eighth. Yankees and O's at 6:35. I love the 635 starts and coverage of T wolf Spurs. That series is not nothing that's tied at 2. That could be heard on 1050 starting at 7:30. Tullamore Dew the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Iris whiskey. Be sure to grab a telemore Dew. Or try the new Telemore Dew. Honey, during today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. Let's get back to the busy phones and let's go to Steve and Boonton. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Steve?
Caller/Listener
Hey, guys, thanks for taking the call.
Don Hahn
So, you know I'm from Jersey because these guys would have said Boonton. I say boot Jersey.
Peter Rosenberg
How dare you from Boonton, New Jersey.
Caller/Listener
I'm Don. I'm also the guy who saw Jimmy Superfly Snuka at Fatsos. Wow. And. And Elvis Patterson at Fasos. Don't call him Toast to his face.
Don Hahn
No, I would never. But that was his nickname. Steve, right?
Caller/Listener
Yeah. Not a big fan of that. For the one Nick thing that I want to say, Alan, did you see the play the other day? Or whoever was running the break gave it to Brunson, foul on extended. And instead of him 99 out of 100 times taking that shot, passing it to Bridges and him just nail three. That's why I'm like, these guys are all in.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you saw the extra pass, right? Like a. One of the players said, we're passing all the time. Yes. But I think that's, you know, what you remember in the Hawk series where he and his dad had it out and everybody caught it on camera. And afterwards he said, just two competitors. I do think there was a lot of. A lot of that going on. The reminder of, you don't have to carry it, you don't have to do it. Trust the pass. And I think you're like, that's the evolution of this offense has become. With Brunson off the ball. And that's why it has a very Golden State warriors feel about this offense.
Don Hahn
Jose's in Connecticut. You're on ESPN New York.
Caller/Listener
Hey, what's up, guys? Alan, I remember. Remember Spanish Chocolate. Sergio Rodriguez.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God. Yes. Sergio was a good player. Spanish Chocolate, he called him. He was. No, he was good. He was a really good international player. He was great on the Spanish national team, NBA wise, he was pretty good. But. Yeah, that is a strange one.
Caller/Listener
Yeah, I was wanting to say, guys. Yeah, that was a strange. I remember that guy. But like, there's two things that have been bothering me. Well, the first one, not bothering me, not as much. But the whole rest of the thing, I think is a little overrated because, you know, I think we always seem like typically is that first half or first game is where the team needs like a little bit of time. But once like that. After that, I feel like that team with the rest in the long series usually wins out. There's always that first. You got to watch out for that first game, first half thing is usually when they. They need some time to, like, you know, get the bearings.
Don Hahn
You're not wrong, Jose, but that's why it could be scary. If you play Cleveland and hear me
Peter Rosenberg
out, I gave you the stat, all right?
Don Hahn
The Knicks do not win series. When they lose game one at home, like so if they play the Cavaliers, you'll get excited about it. But you know what? If you end up rusty, lose game one right now, you can do something you've never done before. So it's. I listen, I think they'll be fine against Cleveland. I don't think they're going to play Cleveland. If I. If I had to bet, and I probably wouldn't get great odds either, right. That the Pistons are winning the series. Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Or they're supposed to win the series.
Don Hahn
Right. Although this is the team the Cavs wanted. Right? So.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. They. They felt like this was their better matchup than Boston, and they thought they'd see Boston in the conference final.
Don Hahn
But as you pointed out earlier, do either of these teams look really great?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Caller/Listener
No.
Don Hahn
The only. There's only two teams that I don't
Peter Rosenberg
like the way they're playing, and that's
Don Hahn
the Thunder and the Knicks. Those are the only two teams that swept. And that's why it feels like they're on a collision course. So we'll see. And I'm sure if you buy into the regular season, which we don't, I'm sure the Thunder would not mind seeing the spurs get upended by Minnesota. But be careful what you wish for. Santiago in Westchester. You're on espn. New York.
Caller/Listener
What's up, guys? I want to call out the NBA real quick, but before I do, I got a Nick's Strange poll. Travis. Where?
Peter Rosenberg
Travis?
Don Hahn
That one. I don't remember.
Peter Rosenberg
That was a. That was a Phil Jackson guy.
Caller/Listener
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Phil.
Don Hahn
Phil thought, obviously it wasn't good.
Peter Rosenberg
Phil thought, oh, this is exactly the kind of player we need to run the triangle. And then guys looked at Travis Ware like, who's this? Who's gonna defend?
Don Hahn
I'm upset about how few of these I remember.
Peter Rosenberg
It's amazing.
Don Hahn
These are deep classes.
Peter Rosenberg
The 2000-20, 21. From that, the amount of players they went through and the amount of people that came through here, you'd be surprised that players if I told you was a Nick a name, you know, like you remember, you know, Vin Baker, you're like, I didn't even know he was a Nick. How about Tracy McGrady?
Don Hahn
Yeah,
Peter Rosenberg
Alexei Sched's my favorite name of all time.
Don Hahn
Who's gonna be the.
Peter Rosenberg
That one? How about Kuz, when I say I
Caller/Listener
can do this all day?
Peter Rosenberg
He's a real fan.
Don Hahn
Yeah, he's a real fan. So what you were going to call it the NBA? I love it. Why?
Caller/Listener
Yeah, James Jones, he's the man in charge of handing out discipline in the NBA. And this rat watched Victor when Banyama throw his elbow into Nazareth's stomach face and he didn't even give him a fine. And Mitchell Robinson, he had an aggressive hugging match with an Australian guy and then he posted a AI generated rat on his Instagram story and he's down $75,000. What are we doing? Go, Nick.
Don Hahn
All right.
Peter Rosenberg
It is interesting that Wemby didn't even get fined. Like, if you don't want to suspend him because you want to say time served, but like, how.
Don Hahn
How early in the game was it again?
Peter Rosenberg
How what?
Don Hahn
How early in the game was it?
Peter Rosenberg
I think it was like eight minutes. No, I thought it was the second quarter. Eight minutes ago in the second quarter. And of course, this is what happens is you get people that now come to his defense on social media and there has been a video created of the first three games of the series and it's all Minnesota behind the play, just dirty, dirty stuff. Shoving him in the back and making them fall down, making them triple. And they're saying, like, see, this was building. The league should have been calling this stuff maybe, man, it's playoff basketball style.
Don Hahn
And also when the reason probably wasn't fined is because he got. He got thrown out of a playoff game in the second quarter.
Peter Rosenberg
Time served. Right.
Don Hahn
So that's. Yeah, that's time serving. And it probably cost him game four. So that seems like it's punishment enough. What do you say you find him a couple of thousand dollars? That's nothing. But he got kicked out of the game. If he didn't get kicked out of the game, then he probably would have gotten a fine. Yeah, but the fact that, I mean, he wasn't kicked out. Five minutes to go in the contest. Let's go to Javi and Queens. You're on espn, New York. What's up, buddy?
Peter Rosenberg
Javi.
Caller/Listener
Javi. Boys.
Peter Rosenberg
What's up?
Caller/Listener
What's up, boys? Thanks for taking the call. I love the strange pull. This guy stole my fire before, but I was going to tell you, I have Three quick ones. But I live in Astoria, Queens. I work in Bedside, Brooklyn and I drive through Masspath every day and I pass by the strip club where Clay Anthony early got shot in the leg.
Peter Rosenberg
That's not great. Wow, that's a rough story. Yeah.
Caller/Listener
Every. Every single day. And then in honor of ty butler's goat, LeBron James, I believe Mario Herzog blocked James shot to end the game and stood over him. If you remember Mario Herzogen.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I do not Super Mario. Yeah.
Caller/Listener
And my last one's a simple one. Lee Nayland from way back.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh my God. That's a good one.
Don Hahn
That's a very. I tell you, you guys, man, Nick fans, you gotta love them, man. They did not drop the ball.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a really good one.
Don Hahn
Jules in Englewood, you're on. Don Ana, Rosenberg.
Caller/Listener
Hey, what's up guys? You took my thunder with the clues. But I got number Thanos into the koopo.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, Thanassis.
Caller/Listener
Yeah, yeah. Thanas he played for our team. And also I wanted to shout out Mike Breed and Monica on that State Farm commercial.
Peter Rosenberg
Very good.
Caller/Listener
Beautiful.
Peter Rosenberg
Very good. Beautiful.
Caller/Listener
Love it.
Peter Rosenberg
Good to see that.
Caller/Listener
NBA, Knicks. Thanks, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don Hahn
Love it. Love the passion. I didn't. I. I watched it with the sound down. I got to see it and hear it.
Peter Rosenberg
Brain's hilarious.
Don Hahn
He's underrated funny. Yes, very much so.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Because he looks so straight laced.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
You know, that's what's fun.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, that's why when he goes out of character. Yeah. He looks crazy and it's actually, he sells it well.
Don Hahn
Alex, in Limbrook, you're on. Don, Han and Rosenberg.
Caller/Listener
Oh, hi, Donnie. How you doing?
Don Hahn
What's up?
Caller/Listener
Before I ask you about my trade, you did hit a sore spot on the International League. I don't understand. So would it. There's four divisions each. Afc, nfc. There would there be a fifth division in one of them, AFC or nfc?
Don Hahn
Yeah. Well, that's what makes no sense. Yeah, it's Adam Schefter's idea. I don't know how it would work.
Caller/Listener
But that's one more thing about my trade. You would have to give these teams preferential treatment. Like if they come from London and go to Seattle, you, they will have to stay in the states and play at least three away games.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Caller/Listener
And what would your wife say? You say to okay, I'm not going to be home for three weeks or a month because I'm going United States to play three away games. They. She wouldn't be too happy.
Don Hahn
Probably not.
Caller/Listener
Anyway, I know your Wife's a fan of the San Francisco Giants.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Caller/Listener
Would you put. Would you. I know they have a couple of people they're looking to get rid of, so would you trade if you could, if you were the Mets? Trade. Take a shot at Rafael Devers.
Don Hahn
Well, here's the problem with Devers, okay. And I'm not saying he's a bad player. He's got a monster contract that's got, I think, like six or seven years left on it. You weren't going to pay Pete Alonso, but you're going to go and trade for. For Devers. It's just not going to happen. And I don't know where to begin with the end of the Giants Dodgers game last night.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, what I missed.
Don Hahn
Well, you mean the. I'm going to. I'm going to Bobby Brown, the celebration? Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I thought we should do that before every show. Be good for morale.
Don Hahn
You have fun.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll make you do it. I'll follow you around. I think they have a word for that.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Well.
Don Hahn
Yeah, I don't know if you can do it.
Peter Rosenberg
No. I'm down the hallway.
Don Hahn
Did you see. What are you doing? Harassment.
Peter Rosenberg
Is this what.
Don Hahn
It's Gilbert celebrating with his team and everybody. The Giants have been doing it for years. The outfielders all gather and they kind of hug, and usually what they do is they're all jumping down in unison. And that's a bit much, to be honest with you. Right. But Gilbert takes it a step further and begins. I think I could say it. And if not, just, you know, dump it. You know, humping his teammate. And again, I'm not. I'm all for whatever you want to do, man, but, you know, it's. Can you just save it for the hot? Drape it for the locker room.
Peter Rosenberg
It's hip, thrusting into each other.
Don Hahn
Yeah, well, Gilbert was the one that was doing it more.
Caller/Listener
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, he was really into it. Yeah.
Don Hahn
And one of his teammates just threw his arms in the air, like, what are we doing?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, now we're a meme.
Don Hahn
Listen, I know the Dodgers are good and the Giants are bad. It was like, literally the best team in the league versus the worst team in the league. And the Giants won.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I get excited, but you gotta hump someone. There's excited and then there's, you know, excited.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I mean, listen, I've had dogs do that to me.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes, sure. No warning, but not another man.
Don Hahn
Not that I recall.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don Hahn
I think I would have recalled that. I would think so.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
But again, you know, healthy grown men do what you got. Listen, God bless, right? God bless. I just thought it was an odd way to celebrate a victory.
Peter Rosenberg
I thought it'd be a great thing for us to do as a show. I guess I'm the one.
Don Hahn
Every day. Warm it up. Here we go. Bring it in.
Caller/Listener
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, get ready. Do you want to be great?
Don Hahn
Do you want to be great or not? I'm just. I'm getting ready. One, two hours. Three.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Let's go.
Don Hahn
How does this prepare me for four hours of race? I don't. I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't know? Maybe your blood starts pumping.
Don Hahn
Why?
Peter Rosenberg
Get excited?
Don Hahn
Yeah, I don't. I don't. Alan's on board either, and I. Or not.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm just trying to help.
Don Hahn
Listen, you need three people, right? Well, Jacob and Anthony are there.
Peter Rosenberg
Jake, you're not afraid of this, right? Why not?
Don Hahn
I'll jump in.
Peter Rosenberg
That's. That's what I'm saying. See, Jake's always down.
Caller/Listener
All right, good.
Don Hahn
You guys have fun, man.
Peter Rosenberg
Anthony.
Additional Caller/Guest
One, two, three. Let's be good. They just don't want. They don't want to be great.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I'm saying.
Additional Caller/Guest
But they've accepted it. It's okay.
Peter Rosenberg
We're comfortable with each other.
Don Hahn
Like, humph. Leg makes me great.
Peter Rosenberg
All the time we've spent together and now all of a sudden, now we have to have boundaries. Maybe a rub off for me. Well, listen, I don't know if that's terminology I would have used, but.
Don Hahn
Okay, well, watch the video and you can figure out when you get home

Shout out to the people that are watching us on YouTube right now. Take up until 6:30. At that point we're going to hand it off to coverage of the Mets and the tigers. All right, LeBron James out. They get swept in four games by the Thunder. Very competitive game. I look like there was a chance that he'd be able to get another game. I don't think he's retiring. I don't think there's any shot that he's going to retire.
Peter Rosenberg
Did you watch him in that game? Does he look like a guy that's
Don Hahn
ready to retire and listen to his words after the game when he was asked about his future. Future LeBron.
Peter Rosenberg
If you, if you don't know what
Don Hahn
the future holds, I guess that means inherently this could be it. Do you allow yourself to those last handshakes?
Peter Rosenberg
This last press conference? Last handshakes?
Don Hahn
No, I don't know because I don't. I have no idea. I mean, none of us in here
Peter Rosenberg
know what the future holds.
Don Hahn
None of us.
Peter Rosenberg
We. Nobody has any idea what the future holds. And I don't either. Like I said, I'll take time to recalibrate and look over the season and see what's. What's best for my future. I get to that point, everyone will
Don Hahn
know now LeBron's got a little Aaron Rodgers in him. I think he'll enjoy the drama of the offseason. Will he? Won't he? What's going to happen he's not going to completely throw it away. Just leave a little morsel out there so it can be a debate during the off season. I believe he's going to be back. I'll start with you, Alan. What team will he play for?
Peter Rosenberg
Lakers.
Don Hahn
Peter, Next year. Yeah, I'm going to Golden State. Golden State. I'm going to say the cavalry. Interesting. So I think he's going to go back home to the Cavs.
Peter Rosenberg
They're good.
Don Hahn
And whether they get bounced in the second round or in the conference final, it could be like maybe I'm the missing piece to take one last run. I think just coming home, I think the Cavaliers would embrace him. But didn't he do that already? He did, but. But this could be a nice way to end. He wanted to go back to win a title there. After all the, you know, the disrespect that people felt in Cleveland, that he chose to go to Miami and all that and then just. Just to come home and just. And have it be.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's not home. Louisiana's been his home for the last 20 years. He's lived in LA.
Don Hahn
I get it. And he'll go back to living in la.
Peter Rosenberg
You know what la. He. He bought a mansion, tore it down and built one, a new one on the property.
Don Hahn
Well, that's where he is going to retire. He's not sure I get leaving there. No. But to go back and play one more year in Cleveland, to say goodbye to those fans, because I do you. I think he'll. He'll announce that this is my last season. It be in Cleveland and it be.
Peter Rosenberg
I think. I think that would get a collective eye roll from the entire basketball world if that's.
Don Hahn
Yes. Why?
Peter Rosenberg
Because I just think it's like we've already done this. Like we've already done this. If he just retires in LA plays out. Look, first of all, he's still really good, right? He's not.
Don Hahn
Why I don't think he's going to retire.
Peter Rosenberg
He's not a 1A player anymore, obviously, but there are nights he can be randomly but to. The Lakers have a decision to make. First of all, LeBron's not going to get a 50 or 60 million dollars contract. Right. He's not going to get a one year of that number. He's got to sign for a. Whatever it is, whatever's affordable to leave space so they can then do things that will help make them a more competitive team. The tougher decision is Austin Reaves, who had a great year. He's Played hurt in the playoffs, but he tried. He wanted to come back. He's going to command a big number. And I only wonder, like, is that really the right fit with Luka now? They went on a heater when the three of them were healthy, and they looked great. Like, people were talking about them as being a real contender, and you weren't paying attention to the fact that they had no bench and they have no bigs. But because they were winning a lot, I think they won, like, 10 in a row. People really got excited. Then they went into Oklahoma City and they got smacked. I don't know if you really want to keep Reeves around more than you want to go get yourself some real effective bigs and let LeBron be what he is at this point of his career. I think they can still be very competitive, and it just doesn't feel like an eye roll thing. He just fit. He just has his farewell tour. They do whatever they can do as a. Build a competitive team there and then let him go off into the sunset, however it happens.
Don Hahn
But I don't. But here's the thing.
Peter Rosenberg
Going. Going to Cleveland would just be like, oh, come on.
Don Hahn
No, whatever. As far as, like, you know, Golden
Peter Rosenberg
State's interesting, but even that feels like an expendables kind of thing.
Don Hahn
I don't think it's an eye roll. It would be a chance, though. I could see there being a chance. Peter, the eye roll would be if he went back to Cleveland, and Cleveland wasn't any good, and it was just to kind of play the 82 games and be done, you know, the Cavaliers, if they lose in the conference final to the Knicks, he'd be going to a team that made it to the Final Four. He'd be going to a team that would think, hey, maybe with LeBron James playing the way that he's playing, we might be able to challenge the Knicks and play meaningful games and go deep into. I still believe that compared to the west, the east is the weaker conference. Yes, Right. So go to the weaker conference. Get a chance in your farewell tour to play, win a couple of rounds,
Peter Rosenberg
go to the finals.
Don Hahn
Maybe a chance to go to the finals, I get. Wouldn't be an eye. An eye roll would be going back to Cleveland and just playing 82 games and missing the playoff.
Peter Rosenberg
I understand your logic. I just. Like I said, I feel like that's been done before, and I just think it's. It's just less mess if you just stay where you are and retire as a Laker.
Don Hahn
I just think Cleveland's a perfect storm of. I know he's going to live in LA after his career is over, going back home and not feeling the pressure to win, but having a chance to win. Like, if you go someplace like, let's just say for sake of army, we know it's not going to happen, but let's say the Knicks lose to the Pistons in the conference final and he wants to go to New York and play for the Knicks, like, that would feel there would be a tremendous amount of pressure because not winning with the Knicks would be a failure. Like, not winning with the Cavaliers wouldn't look like a failure. It would just look like, hey, he was trying to help, they just weren't good enough. So I just think it's a good landing spot for him to finish his career. The one thing I'm fairly sure of, he's not just going to retire. And the other thing that I think teams like Golden State, like the Cavaliers, are going to have to think about what happens with Bronnie, because if. If LeBron doesn't go back to LA, Bronnie's gone. Right? You would think.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
So with the Cavs, the Warriors, whoever, he would have to pick up Ronnie. Right. I mean, he's not going to play. He's not going to have his farewell tour without his son.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. If he goes to another team, I have a feeling just like Giannis, when Giannis goes wherever he's going to go. When the Bucks are.
Don Hahn
You're going to. Brother.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you know that the Nasus is going with them and maybe even Alex, too. Like, they might. Might be part of the deal, you
Don Hahn
know, crazy that is. Think about how good you have to be at something.
Peter Rosenberg
I know.
Don Hahn
Or they'll just bring your family members along.
Peter Rosenberg
Your brother. Your brother cannot. He's not an NBA player, but he's going to take up an NBA roster spot. Think about that.
Don Hahn
Two of them.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, maybe two.
Don Hahn
Potentially two. They're both.
Peter Rosenberg
They're both like. You know, in baseball, they call him. It's quadruple A. Right. Like, you're. You're good for the G League, but you're not really NBA.
Don Hahn
Would his brothers be good for the G League?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, they would. They'd be. Yeah. They're very athletic. Very, very good for this. Like, they. It wouldn't. Like they'd be. First of all, they're too old for the G League at this point for what. It's what it needs to be. Right. But, yeah, I think that's coming with the deal with Giannis, and I think with LeBron, I think it's obvious.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
It comes with the deal.
Don Hahn
Rod in Bethlehem, you're on ESPN New York. What's up, buddy?
Caller/Listener
Hey, how's it going, guys? My strange poll would be. I don't know if it was said before because I've been trying to get through Brian Cornett.
Peter Rosenberg
Brian Quinnett is an excellent so true story. My first ever Knicks game at Madison Square Garden as a ticket holding fan was a game against the Bulls. Starks was hurt, Wilkins was hurt. Quinnette started against Michael Jordan.
Caller/Listener
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Outscored him in the first half. We were going crazy at halftime. Like, this is unbelievable. He's kicking his ass. And then Jordan went like for 45.
Don Hahn
Second.
Caller/Listener
Yeah. So, guys, I want to tell you guys about my surreal experience down in Philadelphia. When I went down today, which game
Peter Rosenberg
did you go to?
Caller/Listener
I went three or four. I went to Sunday's game.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, four. Okay.
Caller/Listener
Okay. I got seats for $330 sitting at the Knicks. 121, row seven. Right where the Knicks go into the locker room.
Peter Rosenberg
Nice.
Caller/Listener
Right on the railing.
Peter Rosenberg
Nice.
Caller/Listener
I look across the way and I see Alan Houston and John Stark sitting on the other side of the railing. So I thought I was in a good spot.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go.
Caller/Listener
Let me tell you something. I. I pulled into there, into the parking lot, thinking, hey, it's Philly. You're in the shadow of the link. Watch yourself, be safe. I thought it was going to be 50, 50. I go in, I get out the car, I start walking towards the arena. There's guys in the parking lot. There was three of them selling Knick shirts and hats. And I was like, wait a minute, where am I? Am I Philly with the Philly guy? Didn't see any of them. I get down there and I get into the arena. I see Tyler Murray in the concourse. I see John Heyman walking right to the left of me. I didn't even know he was a sixth or six. Yeah. So I'm sitting there and John Heyman. John Heyman.
Peter Rosenberg
John Heyman, Post Rider, the baseball writer.
Caller/Listener
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Was. Was that the Knicks Sixer game?
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Don Hahn
That's a strange man.
Caller/Listener
And. And I'm sitting there and I'm walking in. And this is when you realize what was going on in that arena. Okay. When I sat down at my seat, I thought, okay, I'm in a section with Knick fans. Was all Knick fans except for a spattering of six or fans on the Jumbotron while the pregame was going on. While they were Warming up. They were showing them Sixers players. And then once that jumbotron went on Joel Embiid, the booze that came down were way louder than what. I rewatched the game yesterday. It was, it was outstanding. Now, when I was leaving, I was parked in the front and Don, you got to forgive me for this. We're Met fans, so we can never play New York, New York. But I felt it was the right moment to do it, and I put it on and rolled the windows down full blast and I'm blasting New York, New York. Everybody pours out of the park. Everybody's walking out, singing along. I get a state trooper pull up next to me with his lights flashing, looks over me, rolls his window down and says to me, hey, good job. I do the same thing. Good job. Nice.
Peter Rosenberg
They.
Don Hahn
I'm telling you, they.
Peter Rosenberg
They're so sick of it.
Caller/Listener
They.
Don Hahn
They hate their own team.
Peter Rosenberg
It's so true. That's a great story.
Don Hahn
It's. It's not disinterest, it's hate. I think they gladly sold their tickets. I think they were just selling their tickets just to get their money back.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I don't understand why, why Philly fans are getting drag over the last couple of days for that behavior this weekend when I'm saying, no, no, that's what you do when you're trying to send a message to a franchise that continually lets you down.
Don Hahn
You know what? You know what's interesting? That's what we always tell, like Jet fans, like, hey, stop going.
Caller/Listener
Yes.
Don Hahn
If you hate the team that much and you want change, stop going.
Peter Rosenberg
Let met life. They did one better turn to Patriot place. You know, let it happen.
Don Hahn
And what better place to do it on the grand stage of a second round playoff game? You know, let the world national tv.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Let's go to Chris and Barnegat. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Chris?
Caller/Listener
Hey, guys, before I get into my call, I do have a quick strange poll. I'm not really a big Knicks fan, but it's a, It's a Yankee one. When I was younger, like 2012, they had a first baseman, Lyle Overbay. He played for many teams before that, but he played for the Yankees. I feel like that's a strange
Don Hahn
for your. For your age. That's not a bad one. That's good.
Caller/Listener
And then. So this is off topic. I hate to bring you guys off topic, but Don and Alan, you guys both, you know, like hockey. I'm not saying Peter doesn't, but a Little more knowledgeable. What's going on with the Toronto Maple Leafs GM hire? I. I saw Biz from TBS and spitting Chiclets.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah.
Caller/Listener
He was kind of freaking out about it. What's. I just wanted a little bit more information. I'm not a huge hockey fan.
Peter Rosenberg
Very interesting hire. Good, Don.
Don Hahn
It's an interesting hire because when he was the GM of the Coyotes, he got suspended for negotiating with another team to get out of his contract. So Bettman suspended him. He also, like held combines before the draft, like behind, you know, fractured a lot of rules.
Peter Rosenberg
He's a big analytics guy.
Don Hahn
He bent the big analytics guy, but he bent the rules, got suspended. And so it's a curious hire considering the market Toronto's in. Plus he, you know, bringing in Matt Sundin, who's a former player, so it felt like that was kind of COVID Hey, we'll see if he wins there, Chris, It'll be fine. But you're talking about somebody that was suspended, not greatly respected around the NHL, and then all of a sudden gets the job, probably the highest profile job in the NHL, the general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs. And that press conference was awkward to say the least.
Peter Rosenberg
But you know what? And that's why, again, journalism isn't dead. Because I thought the questions that were asked and challenged about the decision to do that hire, and what kind of due diligence did you do and what other candidates did you have? And how does this become your best candidate? Like the challenging at these press conferences rather than just sitting there and smiling and just asking the basic stuff publicly? No, you wait for the. A lot of times you wait for them to break up into the one on ones or into the scrums, right? And then you ask the tougher questions there because you don't, you know, you don't want to put on a show. But that needed to be done publicly. What? Who is the columnist from the Star?
Don Hahn
Yeah, and I can't. Simmons.
Peter Rosenberg
Steve Simmons. Yeah. Yeah, that's. That's an old Brooksie thing.
Don Hahn
But Brooksie would have done the same thing because. Oh, that was rude grandstanding, right? No, he wanted to know.
Peter Rosenberg
But you had to do it in that. To me, you had to do it in a public setting like that because you can't sit there and tell the fan base we did our due diligence and this was the best time. Hang on a second. I called all these people, right? Did you call all these people? Cuz they didn't hear from you and they would have told you all about this guy. Like, that's exactly what needed to be done there. It was a very important.
Don Hahn
I'm not saying that he shouldn't work again, but and his sister works up in Canada too.
Peter Rosenberg
But at least acknowledge it. To pretend like this is we're very proud of this. You need to acknowledge like, listen, we know we're aware, but we don't care.
Don Hahn
We still think he's the right guy.
Peter Rosenberg
We think, we think, you know, he learned from that and we're going to give him another chance.

So the full NFL schedule comes out on Thursday if there's anything left to announce because major leakage. Well, it's not that much. Unless you maybe you saw more than I did. Well, I mean, obviously you know who. When the. When the first Tennessee Jacksonville game is. I'm good. You know, I mean I'm sure they'll save that for. For Thursday, but just some of the. The premier games. The Week 1 49ers Rams in Melbourne that's been announced. Melbourne. Melbourne. Melbourne. Melbourne.
Peter Rosenberg
Melbourne.
Don Hahn
Not even Melbourne. Melbourne, but. So the R is just there for sexiness. Yeah. Go. Go scratch then. I'm. Now I'm not going to watch the game. He's out. No, it's Melbourne. You know why? Because there's an R in it.
Peter Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
And you know what? I don't care. But they see, this is why people aren't going to go.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't think they want to pronounce it the way they want.
Don Hahn
But just because you were there, show off. I wasn't there.
Caller/Listener
Well, you.
Don Hahn
You flew over it. No, I just. I've just been told by many people there, it's not if you go. It's. It's like that thing. You show up and you're like. It's like, where's Houston Street?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I'm so happy to be here in Melbourne. They're like, that's not what this place is. But I'm gonna say there's an R in it. And that's what I'm gonna call what I'm doing. Take the R out. This is how you're grown ups.
Peter Rosenberg
This is how we say it in America, pal.
Don Hahn
Yeah, but I mean it's. I think it's. That's why you know the side of the world and if it wasn't for your fancy opera house, we wouldn't know you existed.
Peter Rosenberg
That's Bluey.
Don Hahn
Thanks for Bluey. That was fun. That's it. And that's. That's. That's all you get. So now I'm gonna protest the game. All right. Melbourne. Mel Bower. Well, it's kind of rn.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I don't know the R's there.
Caller/Listener
It's.
Don Hahn
They're Australian, man. They have an accent. It's pronounced Melbourne. But I'm not Australian. I don't have an accent.
Peter Rosenberg
It's Melbourne.
Don Hahn
Well, they show up here and they just go, hey, it's Houston. Because I know that's what they're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
Let them do it.
Don Hahn
And I wouldn't. I wouldn't have a problem.
Peter Rosenberg
Would you correct them? Are you the type to be like. It's actually.
Don Hahn
It's the same letters. Houston.
Peter Rosenberg
What if it's embarrassing? This nice Austin walks up to you and just tells you, I was just walking on. On Houston Street. Are you gonna go, well, let me
Don Hahn
pronounce it Houston, but I understand the confusion because it's spelled Houston. This has an R in Defend it.
Peter Rosenberg
They can't.
Don Hahn
What if I say to. No, we.
Caller/Listener
It's.
Don Hahn
It's. It's Melbourne. All right. Why is there an R in it? They wouldn't know what to say.
Peter Rosenberg
Stand up for the.
Don Hahn
I just flew. It'd be worth flying 19 hours just to have this conversation with this person.
Peter Rosenberg
The R has rights. His feelings.
Don Hahn
Stand up for the R. Well, then they have an Australian accent. They say Melbourne. Just. They're toolboxes over there. I don't. That's just the accent, though. Telling you. But then accept that I don't have the accent and I pronounce the R. It would be rude for them to correct me, but I don't know if they would. I'm being. I'm trying to tell you so you don't have to. You're being that guy. I'm just like. I just know it's Mel.
Caller/Listener
That guy. Third.
Don Hahn
Remind me, Jacob. It's Peter Melbourne. Peter Melbourne. Peter.
Caller/Listener
Peter.
Don Hahn
Peter Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
We have listeners in Australia.
Don Hahn
We do.
Peter Rosenberg
I know we do.
Don Hahn
Well, we know we do. Our good friend who came to visit us, Jarv, will tell you that it's Melbourne. No, he wouldn't.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he wouldn't correct us. He would let us do it.
Don Hahn
Yeah. He would accept the free lunch he got from us. Cowboys at Giants. We know that's the Sunday night game. Week one, Broncos at Chiefs.
Peter Rosenberg
So that means the Jets. If It's. If Giants are Sunday night, yes. That means the jets are certainly opening on the Jets.
Don Hahn
Are opening on the road? Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way, isn't it weird that nothing jets is being leaked? It would suggest that no one cares.
Don Hahn
Well, no, it's just what's being leaked are the primetime games, Thanksgiving and the international games. So the jets are just going to have your run of the mill 1:00' clock against the Dolphins or something.
Peter Rosenberg
You think it's the Dolphins? It has to be the Dolphins though.
Don Hahn
Could be Pats, you know. All right. The Thursday night game in week two is going to be lines at Bills. You know what? I'm kind of over it. Sorry. What's the problem with that? It. This feels like so yesterday. Like Lions, bills feel so 23. I didn't know. I didn't know. But I think. No, they're both going to be back this year.
Peter Rosenberg
Lions, Bills was a Super bowl.
Don Hahn
We thought we were getting dream about. It's a good game. Anthony just reminded me it's opening the new stadium. I'm not mad at the matchup. I'm not mad at the matchup. It's a good matchup. It'll be a great game. But it does. It does feel like so two years ago.
Peter Rosenberg
But wait, wait, wait. You're opening your new stadium and it's like Detroit? Very odd, don't you think?
Don Hahn
I hear what you say. It's random. It's a good game, though. Ravens and Cowboys in Rio. Week three. What? Yeah, Week three in Rio.
Peter Rosenberg
Easy for you to say.
Don Hahn
Hold on. Ravens, Cowboy. Ravens at Cowboy. It's just such a great example. I adore Rio. I adore football. They just don't go. There's just. No. I don't know. I don't know how you feel about this. And they may win the division, but what did Madrid do to deserve Bengals, Falcons? That's not. That's not right. It's not right. I mean, Rio's getting Cowboys, Ravens.
Peter Rosenberg
And you're getting Cincinnati.
Don Hahn
Right. Atlanta Melbourne's getting Niners, Rams.
Peter Rosenberg
That's not.
Don Hahn
Madrid's. Like I'm getting probably Joe Burrow. Who's who by week nine will be hurt.
Peter Rosenberg
He could be out.
Don Hahn
Right. He's out for the season. And the Falcons can make the playoffs. But again, it's not a sexy team. I'll say how you want to. You want an argument? Here's. Here's a conversation minus Deion Sanders, one of the least sexy teams of all time.
Peter Rosenberg
All time.
Don Hahn
Craig, you know what they are? Boring. Yes. Chris Chandler. I've always felt this way. Oh, you're talking about Jamal Anderson. Take out Nolan Ryan's no hitters. They're like the Texas Rangers in baseball.
Caller/Listener
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Wow. That's right.
Peter Rosenberg
The Texas Rangers.
Don Hahn
Right. Give me the top five. They went to the World center at
Peter Rosenberg
least a couple of times.
Don Hahn
But I was just saying list the top five Texas Rangers players. You know, it's totally. We tell.
Caller/Listener
Not.
Don Hahn
By the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Raphael Palmeiro.
Don Hahn
Yeah. I talked about Juan Gonzalez.
Peter Rosenberg
Juan gone.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Was Juan Gonzalez the one. If I'm not starting, I'm not departing. Was that him? Nolan Ryan.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Yeah.
Don Hahn
Beat Nolan Ryan Express. Adrian Beltre, who's probably the most obscure hall of Fame player in the history of nc.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. Honestly, no.
Don Hahn
Adrian Beltre.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you have any.
Don Hahn
I'm not being mad at you.
Peter Rosenberg
Be honest.
Don Hahn
When I first heard the name Adrian Beltray, I went. They mean Carlos Beltran.
Caller/Listener
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I always.
Don Hahn
They can't mean Adrian Beltra. I think Jose Canseco, when the ball went off the top of his head, he was a Texas fan.
Peter Rosenberg
That could have been a. I think you're right.
Don Hahn
Week 12, Eagles, the Cowboys, Thanksgiving. So that's what we know so far.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don Hahn
All right. Just because we haven't heard from in a while. Let's go to Richard of Manhattan, espn New York. What's up, Rich?
Caller/Listener
Don? Peter Allen, Pat Cummings. Pat Cummings in 85. When Bernard Torres, ACL, became the Knick leading scorer in March and April, he lived on 3rd, 34th Street. Before we got Patrick Ewing that summer, he played basketball on 34th street, across from the Armenian Cathedral, right near the Queens Midtown Tunnel. Full court. He was a hell of a nice guy. He used to play with us down there. The summer of 85, fellas, a bad week. Two weeks for Atlanta City. First you lose the basketball team, then you lose your announcer, John Sterling. Then you lose your owner, Ted Turner, then you lose your manager, Bobby Cox. Bo. Bobby Cox came up with the Yankees. He was healthy in 68 and 69. He was going to replace Crete Boyer. Bill Robinson, who later won the World Series with the Pirates, came from Atlanta, was going to replace Roger Maris. Well, Both those guys hit 190 in 68. Forget about it. In those days, if you didn't hit, you didn't play. And that was it. Fellas, I got to give you the death of somebody. Her name is Joy Harmonies. Do you know who she is?
Don Hahn
No, no.
Caller/Listener
She's the most famous actress ever to have a non speaking role in a movie with two great actors. She never acted after that. And I'll tell you the movie. Well, first I'll tell you the two actors that were in the movie, George Kennedy and Paul Newman. She was the girl who was soaking herself with the car. The car scene where she was cleaning the car with the soap and the inmates were digging the ground. Yeah, that was her. Yeah, she was from Flushing, Queens, Fellas, she just died. 89 years old.
Don Hahn
I did not know.
Caller/Listener
She never acted after that. And George Kennedy uttered the famous words, oh, Lord, Lord, I know I did a lot of bad things, but please don't strike me blind for the next two minutes.
Don Hahn
I know.
Caller/Listener
That was unbelievable.
Don Hahn
Cool Hand Luke. We got to get to enn.
