That sounds like heaven to me.
Don LaGreca
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers. All right to the 5 o'clock hour we go with Don Lagra and Peter rosenberg. I'm Alan Hahn. 800 now at 93776. The number it has been a lively conversation today. It goes we got into the football side of things because we do have the combine going on and you get rumors and all kinds of stuff out of that. And reports early on had connections between potentially Aaron Rodgers and the Giants. Matthew Stafford still out there, of course, and other options and suggestions of what teams will do the mock draft that Mel Kuiper did that's already been out, that's been kicked around. But both teams need quarterbacks. There are quarterbacks available. And then there's, there's this interesting story that the Giants have at least had contact about Matthew Stafford. They have talked about it. And so Giants this is in the New York Post. The Giants and Matthew Stafford's representatives met Tuesday at the combine. That's according to a source. So there is already a meeting. So whether a Giants fan wants to or not, you know, there's those that believe, oh, they should just tank. They should just keep getting, you know, younger and all that stuff. Getting a guy like Stafford doesn't make sense because what's, what's the use of a seven win season? You, of course, Don, believe the opposite. You're trying to win. So you must feel good that at least the Giants agree with you and that they are at least kicking the tires on the potential of bringing in a guy like Matthew Stafford.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it was what Shane said yesterday. You know, you're going to, you're going to take a lot of swings here. Let's see. First of all, they have no idea what's going to happen at 1 and 2. So it is possible that both quarterbacks are gone at 3. Then what do you do? Can you afford, can you afford guys for the Giants to go into next year without a quarterback. Now the Tank crowd will say, yeah, we'll go Owen 17, and we'll get Arch Manning and everything will be okay. But I don't think the Giants are looking at it that way. I think they're trying to get all their ducks in a row here. All right, what's going to happen? How do we feel about these quarterbacks? Maybe they're not in love with them. If not in love with them, where we're going to go. The best veteran out there is Matthew Stafford. I think he's got a few years left. There's a lot of money, but that's going to make neighbors happy. Let's not forget, you don't want Neighbors to all of a sudden become Wilson and say, I want out of here. They can't find a quarterback. It's a mess here. So I think they're trying to stabilize things. And maybe they did reach out down Rogers, maybe Rogers reached out to them. But they're going to have to have an alternative. Giant fans, just sink your teeth into this. They are not going to try to Tank. They're not. John Mara told you that. So they're going to need somebody to play quarterback. They've got one quarterback on their roster right now. So even if you want DeVito to start, they got to go out and get another one. So they're doing the due diligence. We don't know if Stafford wants to come here. Maybe the price will be too high. But isn't it the job of a general manager to look at all of the possible options? Because they don't control the fate in the draft. There's two quarterbacks in this draft and the Giants have the third pick. So I don't care what mocks tell you, there's still a chance that Tennessee goes one with a quarterback and Cleveland goes two with a quarterback. And then what? Then what are you doing?
Don LaGreca
John, I agree with you because I do think as a general manager, your job is to look at all options, consider all options and go with the best one for your franchise. And so if you find out a player of that caliber is available, you absolutely do it. He could be a force multiplier for your franchise. Just from his experience. All the things that he bring. Like when you bring in a quarterback that has a resume and all of a sudden everybody else on the offensive side of the ball get a little more confident in what they're dealing with. They know this guy's won a Super Bowl. They know this guy's been one of the best in the league for a long time. You know, you're going to, you're going to maximize your offense with a player like this. Now it's. He wants more money and that's the part of it that as the Giants, you have to understand. It's not like you're going to get him for a discount his salary, his. He's due 26 million this season. But that's not what he wants to make.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don LaGreca
He wants to make a lot more because we all know quarterback starting quarterbacks in this league make a lot more. And I've read where he believes or his people believe he should be in the top 10 when it comes to quarterbacks and salary. So you're talking 50 and more. So your cap gets compromised because of it. But how much does it help your franchise? Which by the way got a C plus grade by the players in their in the NFLPA poll that is right.
Peter Rosenberg
Now could have been a roller earlier says what does Matthew Stafford do? Win a seven games next year. Why does everybody focus on 2025? If you tell me Aaron Rodgers all right. Yeah, because he's probably only got one more year left. Matthew Stafford turned 37 February 7th. So if I have him for three years, I'm going to have him three years before he turns 40. All right, so maybe they win seven games in 2025, maybe they win 10 in the second year and now they're in a playoffs and maybe in the third year you're now competing with the Eagles, with the, with the top of your division, with Washington and now maybe you're a contender. So I know Stafford's older, but he's a really good quarterback. And if I've got three years with him. Yeah, maybe the first year is not what you, you know, obviously jumping into the playoffs, but it's a step in the right direction. You don't think in those three years and if they're able to hold on to the third pick that they can't be really competitive in 26 and 27. If you don't love the quarterback, what.
Don LaGreca
Do you do with the third pick now?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, now you go out and get another weapon. I get Hunter.
Don LaGreca
Hang on a second. Or you could trade back, get somebody who's desperate and get yourself some draft capital to get multiple pieces, maybe get an offensive lineman and a tight end. Right. Like, like all the things that you could now think about rather than worry so much about the quarterback. You can kick the young quarterback of the future down the road for a couple of drafts if you don't love this draft anyway, you know, and then that's. The Arch Manning conversation does get a little louder. But seriously, Don, you, you know, somebody's going to want a quarterback and if one is already gone at two and you're the, I mean, again, the unprecedented Jet Giant trade, imagine that. But there's going to be somebody that's going to want the other quarterback and they might want to leapfrog a team and that three pick suddenly gets real valuable.
Peter Rosenberg
Now, if the Giants are looking at Stafford, whether that's the right move or the wrong move, it clearly sounds like there's enough momentum that they seem to be interested. Why would the jets not be interested? They seem like they're a lot closer, have more talent. Why are they not interested?
Don LaGreca
We haven't. Well, nobody says they're not interested. We haven't heard whispers about it.
Peter Rosenberg
We haven't heard anything.
John
And they're in a tough spot. They're in a tough sp. Because to go from Rogers to Stafford, it's a weird thing to do.
Don LaGreca
Back to back two completely different personnel.
John
Totally. But back to back swings at like aging legends as opposed to being like, you didn't get the hint the first time and just start over again. You tried it again. I think there's more risk.
Don LaGreca
But what are your options?
John
That matters.
Don LaGreca
Is there a bigger risk if you're drafting a guy that you don't know how good he's going to be and then, you know, now you're paying Garrett Wilson a ton of money and you don't even know if you have the quarterback yet.
Peter Rosenberg
But let's follow Peter's train of thought.
Don LaGreca
Go ahead.
Peter Rosenberg
Would it be a parallel to Rogers, three years younger, coming off a better season in LA than Rogers had in Green Bay his last year there? I mean, I think most people, even though the stats aren't eye popping, to be able to take that team with the injuries they had as deep into the playoffs as they have gone. And I still think if that doesn't snow, they might beat the Eagles, you know, and what did we say about the Rams going into the play? Watch out for that team. So why wouldn't the jets want a piece of that? It's not like Rogers where it's like he's older and he didn't have that great of a season coming off the injured finger. Staffords had injuries too. I get this as a parallel there.
John
But Peter, zero baggage, zero.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, if anything, it's almost like the opposite. You know, the one guy's going on McAfee spilling his beans about vaccines. All that Stafford does is pitch wills with his, with his wife.
John
I mean his wife, his wife has a podcast, but not.
Peter Rosenberg
You gotta live with that, man. I'm sorry.
John
You gotta live with people out there. The worst thing that's ever happened to Matt Stafford was when he was drunk at the parade, didn't realize the camera lady had fallen off the stage, made an awkward face and walked the other direction. Which by the way he completely apologized for. They like went to her and brought her gifts like it was a mistake. He literally has a pretty unfettered past completely. So I agree with you, Don. It's a different, definitely a different situation.
Don LaGreca
I'm kidding. Like again, Don, you're, you're all in. Because you, you think that like, that you've been saying this before even this report comes out. So now that the Giants have made it clear that they are at least interested enough in kicking the tires and seeing. All right, well, what's it going to cost us? Well, Matthew Stafford, first of all, is he interested in coming to New York? Would he want to play for the Giants? Because he will have some other options. You know, you're for it. How many else are for it as well? 800 now 193776. We go to John and Forest Hills. Go ahead, John.
Caller 1
Good evening guys and congratulations on the new show. And Peter, to your new baby.
John
Thank you, buddy.
Caller 2
I just.
Caller 1
This is why I think that they shouldn't go after the Giants, the Jets, they're gun shy after, you know, he went down after one play, Aaron Rodgers and had towards Achilles heel and could this happen again? You know, he's an older player. There's a lot of wear on wear and tear on his body and I think the Giants maybe should look elsewhere.
Don LaGreca
Maybe Darnold, I mean. All right, thank you. John. If you put. Seriously, I put two guys in the room and you pick one of them to play quarterback for you. Are you really taking Sam Darnold over Matthew Stafford just because of age?
Peter Rosenberg
I guess.
Don LaGreca
But how long? Like you get it? What are you giving Darnold a four year deal? What's the difference?
Peter Rosenberg
I gotta make a phone call. He's a lot younger, but that would probably be the one thing. That's it.
Don LaGreca
One's got a resume, one doesn't. John, in the car. John, how do you feel?
Peter Rosenberg
Hey guys, I'm not even a Giants.
Caller 3
Or jets fan, but as I'm listening.
Don LaGreca
I'm thinking about Stafford.
Caller 3
He's probably definitely the best QB in the room. But listen to What Don said about the three year plan, you got to figure his production is going to go down. Next year will be his best year.
Caller 2
And then it's going to go down from there.
Don LaGreca
Well, would it go, would it go down because of the lack of tally. He doesn't look, look who he's, you know, look, he was throwing to there versus who'd he be throwing to here? You know, does he have less weapons? Does he have an offense?
Caller 3
Yeah, I'm saying as he gets to.
Peter Rosenberg
40, you can look at Aaron Rodgers, right?
Caller 3
You compare Aaron Rodgers at 37 and.
Caller 2
Aaron Rodgers at 40. He's all banged up. You got to figure Stafford's gonna go down. Look at Peyton Manning when he was.
Caller 3
The QB of Denver.
Caller 2
He was just handed off the ball. So you kind of have to figure.
Don LaGreca
Before that he threw.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, neck injury. You, you look John, you might be right if you buy.
Don LaGreca
Well, you are because you get older, it's going to happen. And looking at his numbers, they are going down. So.
Peter Rosenberg
But you are looking at a league where does seem like quarterbacks age better than in other sports. They protecting these guys like no other. He's not a scrambling quarterback in the sense where he's going to put himself in harm's way. And, and if you're going to buy into the fact that Rogers tore his Achilles because he was 38 years old or did he just tear his Achilles? You know, I, I think you, you look at the examples of quarterbacks as they get deeper into their 30s again. Tom Brady is certainly an outlier, but it's not crazy to think at 37, 38, 39, he might be able to give you some really good quarterback play.
Don LaGreca
Because we're in an era now where that is becoming more the norm. So we shouldn't look at it as like, oh, these guys historically know anybody over 37. I mean, why did it look like he was 50 years old when he retired? And what was he, was he 37 in that famous photo? Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Right.
Don LaGreca
Like it's amazing. But he looked, he looked like he was 100 years old. So it's just, it, it's different because times obviously are different. But Alan Albany has a good question because we were wondering the same thing. Al.
Caller 3
Love you guys, but yeah, yo, but on some realness, like it makes more sense for them to swap. Like Matthew Stafford would be better for the jets because they're actually, they're ready to go if everything worked out. And yes, I know it's a video game, whatever, but like yo, the jets should have been a playoff contender. They're. They're closer than the Giants would be. And if the Giants were smart, maybe they could over go pay Aaron Rodgers. He'd come with Devonte Adams. So now you got Malik, neighbors Devonte Adams and Aaron Rodgers, which opens things up for Tyrone Tracy, who's not Saquon Barkley, but he's okay and a great receiver out of the backfield. You would be competitive on both sides.
Peter Rosenberg
I would do that, but I, but I would do it if I'm taking a quarterback in three.
Caller 3
All right. But also check this out. Aaron Rodgers, we know how he is as a person. Wouldn't he love to smoke the jets or like, like, hey, I'm, I'm playing this much better on the Giants and just look across the field like, hey, look what I'm doing in the same stadium.
Don LaGreca
Because he's motivated.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I'm not. I think he might be motivated. I don't care.
Don LaGreca
I want to stay on the other part of the But I want to stay on the other part of the conversation, which is, you know, again, I don't know if maybe Darren Mujee is just keeping it quiet if nobody say anything but mooch, mooch. But I do think that the jets should also do their due diligence on this, don't you think?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, unless, unless they just know as even though they're closer than the Giants with talent wise that Stafford wouldn't come here. Because why would Stafford come here? You got a defensive head coach, first.
John
Year head coach, no success, no history.
Peter Rosenberg
Of success, no history of success, even less history with quarterbacks. And you've got a brand new offensive coordinator. Maybe he'd want to work with Brian Dable, who's an offensive guy. You know, again, he might not want to go to the Giants either, but we're looking at the jets being more attractive for Stafford because they're closer. But he might look at it and go, I don't, I don't know if I can work with any of those guys. I don't know him from the staff.
Don LaGreca
NFLPA report card that has the jets where, where Woody Johnson is the only owner to get an F grade from the players from. The only owner from. The other comment made was that there is a culture of fear which just doesn't make sense.
John
Well, that matches the bad owner, though. That's how bad ownership works generally. It's culture.
Don LaGreca
And also because he did cut back on a lot of amenities for the players of the facility, he was also ripped for that by the players in there. In this poll. So it's also not exactly an attractive organization right now.
John
So real quick though, just to the Stafford of it all, because there's almost no point in discussing the New York teams unless you think about what other options are there. If you're Matt stafford. You wasted 75% of your career in a. In a respectfully tough city to live in, particularly at the time. Detroit's made some strides since then, but particularly started his career there. Not a fun place to be at all. And the team was absolutely horrifying. You spent every Thanksgiving just getting completely drubbed. Then you spend five years in la, win a Super bowl or living the life in Los Angeles. At this point, you can go back to LA for cheaper money if you want, or you can go someplace and have a sweet situation. What are the potential sweet situations that could land Matt Stafford? Because there have to be ones that are sweeter than the one we're looking at right now.
Don LaGreca
Well, one option is what Danny in Long island wants to talk about. Danny.
Caller 2
Good afternoon, gentlemen. Great flow on the show Today, Peter the ENN at 6:00 yesterday. Loved it. That's the rightful place where it belongs. I know, it's like MASH 9 o'clock Monday night. There can't be anything other than a.
Don LaGreca
6:00 E. And thanks, buddy.
Caller 2
Now, you know, if Stafford wakes up this morning, like you just said, the NFC West, I believe the 49 is right across roads. Then you got the Cardinals and you got the Seahawks. So basically I believe they're. They're in a bit. He's in a better shape to make a Super bowl run if he stays where he is. Look at the talent on that team. Is it the talent on the team? It's because he's a great quarterback. I think it's a little bit of both. You have two great wide receivers. Every tight end they insert in a lineup seems to get like 50, 60 catches. And you got a good running back. Now with Pittsburgh, I look at it this way, okay, I'd be happy to go Justin Fields for long term, but now if you want to go a short term, if you're not going to go that route, well, I see Tomlin coaching for two or three more years. He's been there for 17 years and at some point you like to do it. It's either enough for him or you want to move on. So Stafford, you can get three years of Stafford, but Stafford, you're looking to go to what I believe is the toughest division now, the NFC east now is Getting pretty close. You're looking at the toughest division in the league. So it's not even. You're not even a foregone conclusion to make the playoffs. But at least you're going on a legitimate organization. Solid defense, they're going to reach Toolia, the offense around you and you have a good coach. So. But that's if, you know, I don't see him leaving, like you said, to go to some bad team and get physically abused. Guys, remember, this is not baseball where Juan Soto goes to the highest bidder and he's not risking his life. You're risking your life if you go to it. If you stand behind the jets offensive line last year, I don't think he wants to put up with that. And he's got about 47 kids. Is he moving east? I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know either. I mean, that's what probably the Giants trying to find out. Again, it's. It's a moot point if you're telling me that he doesn't want to come here and you know, again, I think.
Don LaGreca
Probably that's why they talk to him is to find out. Right. If the. If you're the Giants, the first conversation you have is with his representatives is never mind money, you know, is he interested? Would he want to be part of this? Now, any representative would be an idiot to say no, not you guys. Especially a big market team. You're going to want to have leverage. So they'll talk.
John
Word out of Indy is that the Colts are open to having. Anthony Richardson is going to battle with whoever they draft. He does not have that job. I don't know if that's something that would be considered. Cleveland seems to be completely stuck with their desean Watson situation or I think he'd be appealing for there. Those are obviously two Detroit Ajay cities for him to go back to potentially. So I don't know how appealing either one is. Nothing in Buffalo. They're still running with two at Miami or I would have thought maybe that could have been interesting. New England's not bringing him in since he's covered. We, you know, Pittsburgh potential one. Maybe that.
Don LaGreca
That's the one to watch.
John
That one could make sense.
Don LaGreca
Baltimore, that division, you know, you really want to play in that division.
John
I know at this point that's the thing. Late in your career you want to sign up for the AFC north in every way. The weather, the hits.
Peter Rosenberg
How much do you put in the Chad halls? The brother in law, Stafford?
Don LaGreca
I. Yeah, that was brought up and I I saw that. There's nothing to it.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't. I. I don't know. I know it's a connection, but that's not, that's not how I'm gonna make a life changing decision. Are you? Would you?
John
No.
Peter Rosenberg
Brother is different. Brother in law. That's by marriage. You might not even like it.
John
Well, it totally depends. They could be best friends or they cannot. Like.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, I don't think it's all just a matter of just two people meeting. Right.
John
Are you saying that you wouldn't take a different job for your brother in law?
Peter Rosenberg
My brother? Oh, the exact opposite.
John
I didn't know where he'd go on the east. I didn't know how far he'd go on these.
Peter Rosenberg
No. If I had to get a job based on where my brother in law was, I would take a job in New Zealand. If he were here.
Don LaGreca
It is. So tell us how you really feel, Don.
John
No, but that's the thing. Every situation is different.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
John
Houston's out. India. I said maybe. Jacksonville is. Is a wrap. Tennessee. What's the Tennessee situation again?
Don LaGreca
Well, they have the number one pick.
John
Oh yeah, that's right. They have Levis in the pick. So they're not. They're not considering Kansas City? Chargers. Nope. Broncos. Good. Raiders for Matt Stafford.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. Remember that's the report that he and Tom Brady ran into each other in Montana skiing.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. And so they. I'm a life changing decision who I happen to run into while I'm skiing.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
What if he ran into a tree?
John
Don't bring up Sonny.
Don LaGreca
That's a bigger story.
Peter Rosenberg
Bring up Sonny Bono also running trees.
John
Can't help but think. I can't help but think about it every time.
Don LaGreca
What I thought of too, you know.
Peter Rosenberg
But I don't know if it's relatable.
Don LaGreca
You talk about really bringing the conversation down, Doc.
John
New Orleans would have been possible.
Peter Rosenberg
He brought it up.
Don LaGreca
Sonny Bar Bono.
Peter Rosenberg
He brought up.
Don LaGreca
I know, but you made the reference that it's.
Peter Rosenberg
And you know, everybody rubs into a tree automatically.
Don LaGreca
That's a Bono. They call it a Bono.
Peter Rosenberg
It's the number one reason people.
Don LaGreca
You never went skiing. That's what they say. Whatever you do out there.
Peter Rosenberg
How many people die skiing a year?
Don LaGreca
A thousand, apparently.
Peter Rosenberg
And I would say 990 of them hit a tree.
Don LaGreca
It's more than 0%. What does chat GPT say?
John
I'm asking right now. Chat GPT. How many people die a year in skiing accidents? Let's see what it says.
Don LaGreca
This is morbid.
John
Well, Dom brought it up. Here we go. You brought it up. 46.
Peter Rosenberg
And how many of the 46 was because they ran into a tree? All of them?
Don LaGreca
Well, it's, that's hard to say.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, there's, there's 43 that ran into a tree, three that went off a cliff.
John
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
40 to 50 a year or no, I'm sorry, 43 ran into a tree.
Don LaGreca
That's a lot.
Peter Rosenberg
Two went off a cliff. One died from the sheer boredom.
John
The sheer boredom of skiing, of being.
Peter Rosenberg
On a hill saying, you know, what a mountain, let's get to the bottom of the mountain by putting two silly things on my feet.
John
Don is not. We've never had Don Barry skiing before. This is new.
Don LaGreca
He's killed skiing.
John
He just killed skiing too.
Don LaGreca
Now, where would you power rank golf and skiing? Who is at the bottom of the list?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, golf is always at the bottom of everything.
Don LaGreca
Always at the bottom.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a successful of sports. The people that play it, the people that invest money in it have nothing to do with any of them. They hate their families to.
Don LaGreca
Not on espn.
Peter Rosenberg
Not even if it was. No, it is on espn. The yo, yo, pretend one that's on espn. Imagine, imagine loving golf so much you'd actually invest time in watching people pretend to do it.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. Hitting it to his screen.
Peter Rosenberg
I swear to God. You know what, I'm just saying, just ask a woman out, she might say yes. And then it just open up a portal of just complete life changing fun. But instead take a crooked stick, hit it into a screen. All you have to do is, hey, what are you doing tonight? You want to go to dinner? I'm telling you, what the hell you doing?
John
People love it.
Peter Rosenberg
Ran out of National Geographic magazines. Now I'm going to play golf.
John
Wouldn't it be great if Don played one day and just hit one good shot?
Peter Rosenberg
One good shot. 97 Burbank, California was a gorgeous shot right over the tree. Just lipped out, tapped it in and said, I'm never doing this again, ever. Because it was a great shot. I'm like, this is the way to go out.
Don LaGreca
That's a smart thing to do.
Peter Rosenberg
That's fun.
John
I'm just surprised he didn't find a wandering around.
Don LaGreca
I will say it is nothing but three hours of anxiety.
Peter Rosenberg
Right? So meet you and Alan, we'll go to a park one day. We'll come in early, go to Central park, grab some beers, just wander around the park.
John
I, that is, it's. I so don't find it the same as that. I really don't.
Peter Rosenberg
But you. You enjoy it.
John
I do. Listen, I'm not some lunatic, but I really enjoy it. I listen, it helps if it helps if you're having a little drink drink a little smoke. Smoke?
Peter Rosenberg
What's that? It's like what I say about the Grateful Dead. No disrespect to Grateful Dead. It's not my thing. I have to respect them because how big they are. But if you got to get stoned out of your mind to go, doesn't that tell you something? Doesn't it tell you something?
Don LaGreca
It says. It tells you that it sounds a lot better.
Peter Rosenberg
I go kickboxing. I say, you know, I'd love to do this while drinking a beer.

Maybe. Maybe Jacob has to say. Jacob. Wow.
John
Go ahead, Jacob.
Don LaGreca
Happy birthday, Michael Bolton.
Peter Rosenberg
I celebrate his entire catalog.
John
I celebrate his entire catalog.
Peter Rosenberg
Hell yeah.
John
You didn't even do the.
Don LaGreca
All due respect there, Peter.
John
That was respectfully now.
Peter Rosenberg
Too late now.
John
I was listening to this. This thing the other day, and it was an interview with Phil Collins and he was talking about, like, making. The way he makes music, blah, blah. And he dropped a real respectfully on Bolton. He was talking about how if you do something slightly differently and he's trying to say it gets cheesy and he's like, you know, but if you do it that way, then like, respectfully, it's. It becomes Michael Bolton.
Don LaGreca
Roger saying it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, right.
John
Respect.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, that's your English accent?
John
No, Phil Collins was. It was a little more. It wasn't like. So you know, he's spent a lot of time in America. Didn't. It wasn't quite as strong as maybe.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but it was Aaron Rodgers. I love Bobby.
John
I love Bobby. You know what? It is close to tell you.
Peter Rosenberg
No, but you know what? Workshop that I think you might be able.
John
No, I can find. I can find Phil Collins if I work on it. All right. A lot to get to the dreaded two words you don't want to hear. Upper body. Adam Fox. He's got an upper body situation. Don.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, the other.
John
It's not what you want.
Peter Rosenberg
Injured reserve is what you also hear. And that's. He's on IR so that he'll be out, you know, at least a couple of weeks there because of that. Probably three. So not good. And we haven't gotten word on Keandre Miller, so a little bit of compromised against the Toronto team on Friday that came back from three, nothing down to be the Bruins last night.
John
So are they at Toronto or in.
Peter Rosenberg
No, they're at the Garden. I'm on the call.
John
Oh, boy.
Peter Rosenberg
The show from the guard. The Garden for you.
John
About time. We're going to get some Donnie Pucks.
Peter Rosenberg
Down the stretch here a lot.
John
It's Donnie.
Peter Rosenberg
Hold on.
John
It's Donnie season.
Peter Rosenberg
Donnie season.
John
Is that what you're saying?
Peter Rosenberg
That's what I'm saying.
John
Oh, that's when. That's when I got to tell you, that's when this team starts to play. Well, now listen, before we get to the very hot to trot phone lines. Yes, I do have to say this is not really sports related, but if you're a sports fan, you're going to appreciate it. We won't. Without even getting into the politics of it, the I got to tell you, it was not on my bingo card. Kurt Menefee going in on Eric Adams to his face was not on my bingo card today. It's a gear I didn't know Menifee had.
Peter Rosenberg
So he was on their morning show.
John
Yes, he was on Good Day. And guess what? Not a good day for Eric Adams when he sat down and talked to Kurt Menefee. The mayor said some controversial things last night and Menifee went after him on it and the mayor tried to give a long answer and duck it. And at the end he goes, yes. So explain. I don't understand. Like, Menafee just wouldn't let up. I didn't know. I didn't know it was a Gary ad.
Peter Rosenberg
I've always liked him, but I didn't see, like, an ounce of controversy in the guy. He does a good job hosting.
John
Really good job.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's good. I don't watch. Good day, New York.
John
You're not a good day guy?
Peter Rosenberg
No.
John
Are you anti Scotto?
Peter Rosenberg
No. Rosanna Scotto?
John
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
He's terrific. But I'm an ABC guy. I'm a company guy.
John
You know, that way back, I love that Don. The only way that Don is truly a company guy is with his support of ABC News products.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, if it directly affects me, then I'm not a company guy. But in an indirect way, I'm very company. No, but I like their product. They move, by the way. They're no longer in our building.
John
They're already gone.
Peter Rosenberg
They're gone. They gone. They made a big deal out of it, too, like, because they had been here for like 40 years.
John
So we are going to be in this building as they're literally, like, ripping carpet out from under our feet.
Peter Rosenberg
I just hope they don't forget that we're in here.
John
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
And they bulldoze the place.
John
It's been a lot of change for us over the last few years.
Don LaGreca
This.
Peter Rosenberg
When we move out to our new location, our undisclosed location in lower Manhattan, this will be the Fourth place that I've worked while working here. Right.
John
This will be, well, my third and.
Peter Rosenberg
I've only been here nine years and it'll be my. And this is my third signal. Lot of 10, 50, 98, 7, now 880. Clown show.
John
Clown show. No, that's not true. That's not fair. Whoa, whoa, whoa. This happens sometimes. All right, let's talk to the people. So many people on the phone talk about so many things. One thing we've been enjoying is the Stafford conversation. And let's go to Joe in Scarsdale who wants to weigh in. What's up, Joe?
Caller 2
Hey, guys. Don, big fan. Looking forward to Donny Fox season. So the thing about Stafford as a season ticket holder, it's frustrating to go watch this, but the card that Stafford provides is he the stabilizer. He actually can control a room. And if I'm Shane and Dable, it's my job to the line. I don't know how Merrillist can pick the quarterback in as a third pick. And I don't know how you don't bring in that stabilizing force to keep you beyond one year. If they go young quarterbacks, they're starting over and Mara is not going to be Daniel Jones all over again.
Peter Rosenberg
And listen, I told you, I'm not going to pretend to have that much knowledge on these two quarterbacks that are coming out. But I do know one thing. I don't want to make changes if I draft them. And John Maravate made it very clear I don't want to go through this again. So if you've got a young quarterback and you have a bridge quarterback or you have a veteran that is going to step in for a little while like Kurt Warner and then you're going to hand the reins over to the kid and you win three, four games, these guys are out of a job and you are shooting yourself in the foot. Now I made it very clear I'm not a Shane Dable fan. I would have let them both go and I would have started fresh with the third overall pick in the draft. But they, they brought these guys back. So we gotta have to make it work. Isn't it better than, than having it happen a year too late? So you have to have faith in them like Peter. You can't be John Marin, say, well, I can't have Shane draft the quarterback third overall. I don't trust him. Then what would you keep him for, right? No, but you got to trust them. And maybe the feeling is I just don't love these quarterbacks. Would Would it be that off base if you found out the Giants weren't in love with these quarterbacks? Nobody seems to be in love with them outside of Alan Hahn. Who have you heard with who has spoken with conviction that said either of these quarterbacks are must picks? I have not. I'm sure there are people out there, only Alan Han. All right, so by the way, and.
John
I love Alan Han.
Peter Rosenberg
And listen, Alan might be dead right and everybody else be wrong, but the reason we're having so many different mock drafts and having this conversation is because nobody believes either of these quarterbacks or can't miss. Now, maybe both of them are going to end up going to the hall of Fame together. Maybe we're going to have the next great rivalry in the history of the NFL with these two quarterbacks. Or maybe whoever drops them is going to be looking for a quarterback in two years.
John
Right? Both, by the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Both on the don't know.
John
Greg in Smithtown. What's up? Greg Greggy, Greg Ennator.
Peter Rosenberg
Well said.
John
Let's try Kevin in Carmel. What's up Kevin?
Caller 1
Hey, what's up, guys? I just want to chime in on this whole staff or debate. Don, to me this is seems like it goes into the conversation of how dysfunctional the Giants are because is it me or did our offensive line get better somewhere? Because that's the biggest issue besides quarterback, obviously we've had over the years and it's not getting any better. I mean, I heard a stat the other day that Thomas has only played in 47% of the snaps. Stafford's going to get killed behind that line and we're going to be right back to where we started. Not if Thomas, probably Shannon.
Peter Rosenberg
Not if Thomas is healthy. I think the line will definitely improve.
Caller 1
But he. But he hasn't proven that he's healthy over the last two years. He's only played in 47% of the games and the rest of the line is garbage as it is.
John
Well, the 40.
Peter Rosenberg
Wait a minute, wait a minute.
John
Hold on now.
Peter Rosenberg
The 40% of the game I get he got hurt on opening day against Dallas. I get it. But to say he's injury prone. He's rated out to be one of the best tackles in football. Let's see. I think they did go out to free agency and get a couple of offensive lineman last year. I think it can be better. I don't believe that it's a death sentence. Whoever the quarterback is behind this offensive line, I don't think it's that bad and it can improve.
Caller 1
Stafford is Stafford a mobile quarterback. I mean, Daniel Jones was a mobile quarterback and that guy's career is well gone now.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, but he also. Right. I mean, Daniel Jones made poor decisions. I mean, part. Be honest. I'll let you finish. You definitely need an offensive line, but there's a lot of sacks, a lot of injuries around the quarterback too. You know, not getting rid of the football. So we always blame the offensive line. But you know, Daniel Jones didn't prove out to be one of the great decision makers of all time. And now you have a chance to go out and get a guy that's won a Super bowl that dragged the Rams into the playoffs last year. So it would definitely be an improvement. I don't think it's a death sentence. I don't.
John
Let's, let's go to Paul who's calling us from Japan.
Peter Rosenberg
Hey, Paul.
Caller 2
Hey, how's it going, guys?
Peter Rosenberg
What's up?
John
How you doing, buddy?
Caller 2
Doing great. I just calling a couple things. I'm going to ask Don a question. Between the two teams, the New York Rangers and the New York Knicks, which of the two have a chance to move longer in the playoffs? If both were in the playoffs?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I mean, obviously you would have to say the Knicks Rangers might not even make the playoffs. Now if these. If you're going to tell me that the Rangers are making the playoffs because of the run that they made last year because of Igor Shusturkin, I think they've got a chance to make a deeper run just because that's hockey. We've seen low seeds make runs before. I don't see how the Knicks are getting by the Celtics and the Celtics are likely going to be their second round opponent. So I would say the ceiling for the Knicks is round two. Would it be crazy to think if the Rangers snuck into the playoffs they can win a couple of rounds? It does, but I would probably put it at a higher percentage than the Knicks beating the Celtics, but probably barely. Let's see what the Rangers do these next 24 games. But not good without Adam Fox for the next ten.
John
Thank you, Paul.
Peter Rosenberg
Japan. That's Paul.
John
Paul, you're in Tokyo. Okay, he's gone.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go.
John
Oh, should we.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you know? Oh, no.
John
Richard.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Caller 5
Hi, Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
This is a mistake.
Caller 5
How are you guys? Luka last night, unbelievable. I mean, he flowed so great with LeBron. He didn't look like anything with Dallas. He didn't hog the ball. He didn't pound the ball to the ground. It looked almost like Earl Monroe with Frazier. Randy Moss with Tom Brady. That's how good he looked. And you talk about Cleveland. Last night they went to Orlando. Their two best players, Garland and Mitchell, combined for 11 points and they still beat Orlando in Orlando by 40. Yay. That's how crazy. Donnie, you mentioned Jockerman. Jockerman is the most important piece to the Rangers ascent. Jockerman was Dave the busher. He was Dr. J. He was Joe Namath. He was Tom Seaver. Once he got to the Rangers and became good, he was that great a goaltender. And Don, I got a question for you. If the Knicks had a fourth line like the New York Rangers, would they go to the championship in the Eastern Conference?
John
What?
Peter Rosenberg
I.
John
Let me just speak forever. When I say. What in God's name are you talking about?
Peter Rosenberg
Richard?
Caller 5
Fourth line. That's how good the fourth line. Where the Rangers were last night. Peter. Rangers had. If the Knicks had that kind of backup power fourth line wise, I think they would do.
Peter Rosenberg
If you want to say like the fourth line, like the bench. Yeah, absolutely. Because that would. Now listen, it's one game and it's against the Islanders who are behind you in the standings.
John
It's also not just like not having.
Peter Rosenberg
A. I said I think it was a mistake and I was proven correct.
John
But Jockerman was.
Peter Rosenberg
Jockeyman was amazing because not too many hall of Fame goaltenders. Peter. That didn't win a Cup. Now, he obviously played in a different era where it was a lot harder to win the cup. But he was. He was special and probably isn't remembered as well as he should because he didn't win. But he was his numbers up in the rafters and rightly so. So Richard was good there. But the trying to compare a fourth line to the NBA and is the.
John
Fourth line for this Rangers team that good every night? Don.
Peter Rosenberg
Or is especially good the first night? It was one game.
John
So after one game that was terrific. But still. But after one game, Richard said if the Knicks had a fourth line like that, they'd win the championship.
Peter Rosenberg
Right?
John
We don't even know if it'll affect the Rangers in a positive way, let alone the Knicks.
Peter Rosenberg
Alan, what if the Knicks had a fourth line like the Rangers?
John
What do you say to that?
Don LaGreca
They go bench. Is that what he's talking about?
John
Yeah, I guess so.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that's. Well, he never confirmed it. That's what we guessed. I'm assuming that's where he was going.
Don LaGreca
But I can't imagine what else he could do.
Peter Rosenberg
When you assume with Richard, you make an ass out of you and me.
Don LaGreca
Imagine if they had lines in basketball are you just like on the fly, right?
John
In and out, go. Why not like a pickup game?
Don LaGreca
You could be wild. Yeah, you want to make the All Star Game interesting?
Peter Rosenberg
Tell you what, to make a hard change. That's the one thing I noticed. You know when I'm calling those basketball games, Alan is like, all right, the guys are on the floor. I'm good. I don't have to worry about it. As long as I got those 10 until the next whistle, I'm good. You can't do that in hockey.

John
Did we make a decision that this is what we're doing on every Tully.
Peter Rosenberg
I think it just happened organically.
John
Is that where we want. Do we want to go there, though? Okay. We. We want to commit.
Don LaGreca
I. Why not? I. I think involves both of you, which I like that. I like having collaboration. I also think when you guys can ever do something, you know, in unison, that's just what the people gets the people going, I think. So we all have. You know, my wife made this observation. The three of us have voices that are very similar, and so they do mesh well. That was one of her things. She's like, I never know who's talking. Really Makes me laugh. Yeah, she knows mine, obviously, but between the two of you, she's always like, I never know.
John
Well, you know what? Listen, she's obviously not alone because some of the great. Some of the great people in the business have confused me and Don on the phone over the years, so I can't really fault your wife.
Don LaGreca
Is that true? Oh, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
We've had. No, no, we have had guests refer to each other wrong callers who think I said something.
John
Peter said, it happens all the time. I don't think we sound very similar.
Peter Rosenberg
But I don't think so at all.
Don LaGreca
I don't think so either. Like, I don't hear it. But she made that. Com. Made that comment and then said, but it's a compliment because the three voices are complementary to each other. Therefore, when, you know, whenever we do it on something, it sounds good. So that's why I think the telly.
John
The more.
Don LaGreca
The more figure out how you want to say it.
John
Right. The more we can be in unison together, the better. I see what you're saying. I see what you're putting down like that.
Don LaGreca
Look, this is. This is. This is. There's no eye in this team.
John
I love it.
Don LaGreca
You know what I mean?
John
I love it.
Don LaGreca
So anyways, Knicks and the Sixers tonight at the Garden. I'm here at the Garden. We'll have coverage immediately following us right here on 880. And that's again, 6:30 is the pregame, so we're done in. Not too. In a little bit of time here, about 33 minutes. We also have more basketball. How about the Thunder in Brooklyn taking on a very good, very feisty Nets team? So that's going on 7:30 at Barclays.
Peter Rosenberg
Weren't very feisty against the Pistons the other night or the Wizards. Excuse me. The other night.
Don LaGreca
That I couldn't understand that one. St. John's Butler, for all you College basketball fans getting into the Johnny's. That's at 9:00. And on the hockey side, the Devils and the Avalanche in Colorado at 9:30. A little 2003 Stanley Cup Final matchup.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh 1.
Don LaGreca
What was O3.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, Ducks with Devils.
Don LaGreca
Oh 1 was the yes. You think I'd remember? I was there. Anyways, game time. Brought to you by Telemardu the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Telemar Dew or try the new Telemore Dew. Honey, during tonight's action, glasses up to enjoying Telemore Dew responsibly. We have a lot of calls here. You guys really like must have hit a nerve or something. What were you talking about while I was gone? I was gone for five minutes.
John
The lines were jammed when you walked away.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, it's a good point. Jay and Newark ahead. Jay.
Caller 2
Fellas. Fellas, how are you? Before I signed a question. Peter, congratulations on your blessing and the extension of your family. Expect nothing for Father's Day, bro. That's all I can tell you. But other than that, enjoy.
John
Thank you.
Don LaGreca
Dude, I just want peace and quiet on Father's Day. Jay, don't give me anything. Just give me peace and quiet.
Caller 2
That's all you should expect. So Alan, hypothetical for you, three series that I have in mind that would be really compelling. I wanted to know your take. Which one you would love to call if they came into fruition. Lakers and LeBron going back to Cleveland in the finals. Luca and the Lakers. Lakers going on a Game 7 to Dallas? Or Jason Tatum and Austin meeting Steve Kerr and Golden State in the Olympic revenge series? Which one would. Which one would you be more interested.
Don LaGreca
In calling, by the way? Can I. I know we don't do point God anymore. Guys, this is a great call. I mean this is a good. This is a fantastic call. This is Jay in the caller hall of fame.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's wild.
Don LaGreca
Think about those three options. Those are all call great for all the reasons he explained. So who you picked him and Brown with a little revenge. Remember he took Derek White, not Jalen Brown, Steve Kerr. So I mean you talk about that has that storyline. LeBron going back to Cleveland, them playing each other in the finals. Can the Cavs win a championship without LeBron by beating LeBron? That has a great story. I'm sorry, guys.
John
No, that's dead sexy.
Don LaGreca
That is. It is. But I'm sorry that I still say and it wouldn't be in the finals, but I don't care Luca versus Mavericks. It's just that is, that's why you have. That's why, that's why sports is televised. That kind of a series.
John
And also drama.
Don LaGreca
It brings the trash talking, all of it.
John
It also brings something super important, which is multiple superstars. The Cleveland story against LeBron would be fun. The problem is it's still only LeBron.
Don LaGreca
And people are tired of LeBron Cleveland.
John
There's LeBron fatigue. There's the LeBron Cleveland fatigue. And then, and then Allen, maybe we're having a conversation if they had some megastar in Cleveland, but they.
Don LaGreca
Respectfully, Donovan Mitchell, but he's not a megastar.
John
He's the star of their team.
Don LaGreca
That's a team.
John
They're a team. They're true team.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. Now the Tatum versus Kerr, you know, trading and Brown versus Steve Kerr thing, if you're a basketball fan, but rest of America, that you'd have to explain the story. And even then you'd have to explain it again. I think the Luca vs. Maverick story, it doesn't matter who you are. Eugene and Dolores in Idaho are watching that because of the. They know the story. They know the drama. People love drama. And that's, that's the most dramatic game. Now, that series, that would have to be a conference finals for it to really hit like the top, the pinnacle. But I don't care. That's a great question, though.
John
Really good. That's strong.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. All right, well, let's see if can you get better calls than that one in the 6 o'clock hour. 800-919377. That's one of the best. And one of the best for us is Don. He's got some message for you.

Don, Hahn & Rosenberg Podcast Summary
Podcast Information:
In the "Hour 3: Talking with Stafford" episode, hosts Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg engage in a spirited discussion primarily centered around the New York Giants' potential interest in acquiring quarterback Matthew Stafford. The conversation delves into the implications of such a move, comparing Stafford to other quarterbacks like Aaron Rodgers, and explores alternative scenarios for the Giants and Stafford's future in the NFL.
Alan Hahn initiates the discussion by highlighting the Giants' active pursuit of Matthew Stafford amid the ongoing NFL Combine and mock draft rumors. He states:
“The Giants have had contact about Matthew Stafford. They have talked about it. ... they have at least had contact about Matthew Stafford.” (00:36)
Peter Rosenberg elaborates on the Giants' strategy, emphasizing their need for a stable quarterback to avoid tanking the season:
“I think they're trying to stabilize things. ... they've got to have somebody to play quarterback.” (02:13)
Don La Greca supports the acquisition by underscoring Stafford's potential as a "force multiplier" for the Giants, enhancing the confidence of the entire offensive unit:
“He could be a force multiplier for your franchise. ... You’re going to maximize your offense with a player like this.” (04:52)
The hosts examine other teams that might be interested in Stafford, particularly the New York Jets. Peter Rosenberg questions why the Jets haven't shown interest despite their substantial talent:
“Why would the Jets not be interested? They seem like they're a lot closer, have more talent.” (07:19)
Don La Greca responds by noting the lack of rumors about the Jets' interest but underscores the complexity of switching quarterbacks from Aaron Rodgers to Stafford:
“Nobody says they're not interested. ... to go from Rodgers to Stafford, it's a weird thing to do.” (07:36 - 08:02)
A heated debate arises between Don La Greca and Peter Rosenberg regarding the wisdom of acquiring an older quarterback like Stafford versus investing in younger talent such as Sam Darnold or the prospect Arch Manning.
Don La Greca argues for Stafford's experience and immediate impact:
“If you find out a player of that caliber is available, you absolutely do it.” (03:58)
Conversely, Peter Rosenberg raises concerns about Stafford's age and future performance:
“Matthew Stafford turned 37 ... so maybe they win seven games in 2025, maybe they win 10 in the second year...” (05:19)

The discussion shifts to the Giants' organizational culture and capacity to support an older quarterback. Peter Rosenberg points out the importance of a stable environment and competent coaching staff:

Several callers contribute to the dialogue, offering diverse viewpoints:
