Don Hahn
York app and your smart speakers. 503 in the big city with Don Legreca and Peter Rosenberg. I'm Alan Hahn. What Don was wanting earlier in the show, I'm going to give him right now. You ready for it, Don?
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Hahn
It's a game time. It's brought to you by Teller. More Dew Irish whiskey. Because when it's game time, boys. I like that. It sure is. The Rangers, they visit the Jets. The Winnipeg jets, that is. Coverage immediately follows Dan Grass on 880 at 7:30. The Devils. That's why Don's got a nice suit on if you're watching on YouTube and looks so handsome and smart. They host the Calgary Flame. Calgary Flames at 7. Puck drop 708 on MSG Network. The Nets are in Atlanta. They take on the Hawks at 7:30. And so this is in the script and it was some it was said this morning, so I'll say it again. It they said the Nets face the Hawk, are on the road to take on the Hawks in Atlanta. Is that redundant, Don?
Alan Hahn
No.
Don Hahn
Why on the road to face the Hawks in Atlanta?
Alan Hahn
Well, just I guess if you're on
Don Hahn
the road to face the Hawks, you
Alan Hahn
are probably just letting the people that maybe aren't huge NBA fans know that the Hawks.
Don Hahn
I don't know where the Hawks play. So if I say the Nets are in Atlanta, do I have to say they're facing the Hawks? So they're just hanging out because not everybody knows.
Alan Hahn
They might think Thrashers, they might think Braves.
Don Hahn
You know what? They might think Braves. Because the Nets right now we don't know what they're playing. 7:30. Is that game inclined to watch. And of course, coverage of the ACC doubleheader will be on 1050 at 6:30. For those who want to check that out as well, St. John's did win today in their quarterfinal against Providence. 85 72. They'll be in the first semifinal tomorrow. I have not checked the score. Let me check it real quick here. Seton all about to win. Seconds away from clinching that win. Oh, they won that game is over. I have two seconds left.
Peter Rosenberg
I think you're.
Don Hahn
I think yours is frozen. My game kicks. That's a shame. Well, Seton hall wins the St. John's vs. Seton hall in the semifinal tomorrow. Look forward to that. Well, we'll be across the street at 3 o' clock at the Irish exit doing our show at Moynihan. So go hang out with us before you go to that game. Tell them or do the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Telemore or try the new Telemurdo, honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly.
Alan Hahn
And we didn't get a chance to do this the other day since you brought up the Nets. And really, one of the only good things about the Brooklyn Nets is Chris Carino, who is of the Kurt Gowdy Electronic Media Award. So congratulations to him. That whole broadcast is like what Michael used to say, you know, putting the Mona Lisa in a garage. Those guys deserve better.
Don Hahn
It is true. We have.
Alan Hahn
True. And Carino bring it every night for a team that is God awful. And you listen to the broadcast and it's professional and they give it every bit that a game deserves, but the Nets don't.
Don Hahn
And who joined the Ram A league? I don't think Capstro has missed a game, by the way.
Alan Hahn
No, he's over two. They celebrated his 2,000th consecutive game earlier in the season. Yeah.
Don Hahn
Which.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, he's John Sterling esque.
Don Hahn
If there's ever a team where it's like, guys, I need a night. And no one would think twice, it would be this year's team. Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Like if he went to. If he went to management and said, listen, I need a game. Why look. Look at what we're doing here. Why didn't you volunteer this to me? Why didn't you offer us to be early htv? I said, guys, listen, take this trip off, all right?
Don Hahn
A mental health break.
Alan Hahn
Just. We don't. We don't want to break you. But no, that's. They wouldn't do it because they love what they do.
Don Hahn
That.
Alan Hahn
That's what it sounds like to me, that they really love what they do. So it just stinks that the games aren't competitive. But honestly, because I listen a lot, like driving home, because I don't know, something about games on the radio that I did that even if it's for a team I don't care about, kind of sucks me in. And it's never, you Never. You never even get a sense that they feel sorry for themselves, that it's not a game they don't want to be there for. They hype it up because you know, the fans that are listening, you know, care and they show that it's awesome.
Don Hahn
No, no. Congrats to Chris. It is a great honor and he's. He's a class individual who obviously is great at what he does. I want to get into the WBC stuff of course because more, more hilarity came out of that yesterday. But we do have some more on the jets on our conversation. So let's get a few before we do that and we'll go to Steve in New Fairfield next. Steve, you're up.
Alan Hahn
Hey guys.
Peter Rosenberg
You know Don, I'm fully.
Alan Hahn
I'm with you on the the tank
Don Hahn
and situation but I also got to
Alan Hahn
call you out on some.
Don Hahn
I mean I'm with you in terms of like Peter said in it's March. No, I agree with you. It's freaking March.
Alan Hahn
Go through the spring, go to spring
Peter Rosenberg
breakfast, everything for the sake of.
Don Hahn
Maybe we could find the next Adam
Alan Hahn
Gase and Mitchell Trubisky.
Don Hahn
Who the hell takes Mannings last name? Who's to say Mannings Lawrence was supposed to be the end all be all.
Alan Hahn
It's the jury was out until the last year and a half on him. So to put all my chips in the middle of the table for the chance of getting Dante Moore or Manning
Don Hahn
and say that's going to be the ticket.
Alan Hahn
We got to start creating some good vibes, man.
Don Hahn
But in terms of calling you out then I called two weeks ago.
Alan Hahn
Believe me, I'm not Ben out of shape.
Don Hahn
I probably sound a little more than
Peter Rosenberg
I am but I called up two
Alan Hahn
weeks ago and said the offensive line young, solid, you got Garrett Wilson coming back.
Don Hahn
You signed Breeze the tight end.
Peter Rosenberg
You got a lot of money to
Alan Hahn
spend and you go get a solid veteran. Believe me, no one was good better saying a cousins of Murray and I
Don Hahn
was quote upon disconnecting called high and lost and you literally said an hour
Alan Hahn
ago six to seven wins.
Peter Rosenberg
I said seven to eight wins.
Alan Hahn
So was the signing of the line
Peter Rosenberg
of demarcation was the Gino United signing.
Alan Hahn
That was before the Davis signing. That was before the Mika Fitzpatrick trade. Listen people high it's more of a compliment. It's really very.
Peter Rosenberg
He loves. He loves our high but no but
Alan Hahn
you sounded overly optimistic. I'm just saying that could you get with and listen it's Geno Smith. It's not like I I think that's better than Kirk Cousins. I, I, I hear what you're saying, but you sounded like, oh, optim. Overly optimistic. But you're right. If I could say six, seven wins, you're saying seven, eight wins. There really isn't that much of a difference. But don't, don't ignore the pickups they made on the defense. And that was also before with a franchise, Breece Hall. So we know he's definitely coming back. But I'll take the L. How about that?
Don Hahn
I mean, it's a difference of one win. I think that's what he's trying to say.
Alan Hahn
Exactly. But I don't know, maybe it was the tone. But you remember the call, right?
Don Hahn
He sounded too optimistic. And we at the time, especially me, were completely pessimistic, thinking this is going nowhere and it needs to go nowhere.
Alan Hahn
But some things have happened since then. But no, I will take the L.
Don Hahn
I think the jets have themselves a general manager. I don't know if they, I agree with you. I think they've got a Geo.
Alan Hahn
I think he knows what he's doing. Yeah, but, you know, you also have an owner that another lose season, he'll just decide, all right, these guys aren't it. I'm going to blow it up. Now, to take something back that I said earlier about, like, who's going to want to come here after you fire your head coach and your general manager? Well, if Mike Tomlin is your head coach and you hire the next great young general manager, that maybe is a different story. But again, you think Tomlin's going to want to come here to this mess when an owner that's got fat hands and a team that's the opposite, he's
Don Hahn
going to have to like. That's my point is what is attractive about the job if you're garbage again and a laughing stock and embarrassing. And you know what happens, too? If the jets have a bad year again and they've run off six losses in a row, you become, again, the butt of all jokes, the national, you know, disaster that everybody loves to poke fun at. And you're like, yeah, I'm not going anywhere near that.
Alan Hahn
And also, too, you mentioned Bill Parcells, that he was a New York, you know, Jersey guy going back.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
There's a big difference between Leon Hess and Woody Johnson. Not for the sense of winning, because they did a lot of losing under Leon. Right.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
Leon wasn't fat hands. All right? He may not have been an owner that knew a lot about football or whatever. They obviously didn't Do a lot of winning there. And of course there was that big quote I'm sick of losing at the press conference hiring Rich Kotai and so that. But he didn't. That I remember anyway and we're going back a long time ago was as meddling as Woody Johnson can be. And I think that turns off potential GMs and head coaches. Bill Parcell's new that he was going to be fully in charge of that organization.
Don Hahn
You tell me that the Hess kids weren't in the locker room talking about how on Tecmo bowl this is this guy's rating and we should trade for him.
Alan Hahn
Way to the way to keep the timeline accurate. Alan, that's awesome.
Don Hahn
Madden did exist then too. But a Techmo bowl was the easier. Was the easier.
Alan Hahn
Yeah but the Madden that I, that I remember that I that I had for Sega. So that was what Madden 94. Oh, those. What did you have like Peter, what did you have like maybe six plays on offense?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah. It was not a full playbook where you had to understand real NFL offenses in order to do it.
Alan Hahn
And. And all you got on a Madden might have been oh boom, big play,
Peter Rosenberg
boom, he's on his back.
Don Hahn
Oh yeah. The amount of time that John spent in the. In the sound room to record some of that stuff, which again from my, my year that I spent at EA Sports like that was an incredible experience. Like they had him come in and he was in a sound booth and they gave him all his sayings, they recorded all that he said, a couple other commentaries and that was the whole damn game. And that was it. And you heard it over and over again. But it was at the time it was considered incredible. Now of course primitive.
Alan Hahn
The gap between Madden 94 and the new Madden.
Don Hahn
Oh my God.
Alan Hahn
What is bigger than the gap between Madden 94 and the vibrating football? Remember with the little pieces and the. The board would vibrate and the player.
Don Hahn
You mean the. What is that? That's draw to matic, right? No, what was that called? I know you're talking about though, right?
Alan Hahn
And they made.
Don Hahn
You said the vibrating football. Peter.
Alan Hahn
I don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
Electric football. Well, yeah, the one where the board.
Don Hahn
The board was made of like metal.
Peter Rosenberg
Metal.
Don Hahn
If you hit the buzzer, it just shook all the players and you.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, the players. I think it was called electric football.
Alan Hahn
And you. They really did. It did have like little things that you could flip to try to make the running back go in a certain direction. But they always was in a formation circ.
Don Hahn
It was something like that. But yes. That's what we did before, of course.
Alan Hahn
Or the handheld one with the little dots. What was that called again?
Don Hahn
That was Electronic Football.
Peter Rosenberg
That was so that was also Electronic Football, the video game.
Don Hahn
I used to play that game. Well, it wasn't. It was L. It was led. Right. It was literally just dashes and you had to be able to move up, down, left, right away from randomness of the dashes coming towards. Was it the Mattel electronic football game?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, that's what it was.
Don Hahn
Yeah. I used to. I still had it recently, I find
Alan Hahn
you had an offensive.
Don Hahn
So.
Peter Rosenberg
So, you know, the difference is, Alan, what you're talking about here.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Alan Hahn
What?
Peter Rosenberg
We're both right here.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I'm more right. But still. Electric Football. Electric Football is the official name of the metal thing. You sat down, turned it on and
Don Hahn
it buzzed and it.
Peter Rosenberg
You're talking about Electronic football.
Don Hahn
Yes. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Which was the nothing. Yo, yo. Video game where you watch dots move.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Alan Hahn
It was fun at the time.
Don Hahn
Oh, man. I'd spend an hour on that.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, because you did have blockers. But the blockers, if they hit a defender, those dots would disappear, whatever was left. But if you really knew what you were doing, you'd get a touchdown on every play.
Don Hahn
It's really something.
Alan Hahn
But what the noise is, if you could probably find it. Jacob, come. Come out of break with it. That'll bring back a lot of memories.
Don Hahn
And a 9 volt battery is all you needed back then, too. 919-377-68. And back to your calls, of course, on all this and more. But we did talk about the wbc, the World Baseball Classic and. Hey, guys, Team USA Yep, we're in it. We moved on, you know, just like Terosa said. You knew they'd already clinched. They're in. They in. Why are they in? Well, because. Not because of their loss to Italy, but because of Italy's win nine to one over Mexico last night. And the audio out of this is great. So let's first and foremost go to Vinnie Pasquin. Tino, who is playing for Italy, who isn't. Who is an American. This is from FS1. Him letting the Americans know we took care of business for.
Alan Hahn
That was unbelievable, huh?
Don Hahn
You're welcome.
Alan Hahn
Usa.
Peter Rosenberg
We were thinking of you guys over at your hotel. We were thinking of you guys.
Alan Hahn
So I'm glad you guys could join
Don Hahn
us in the party.
Alan Hahn
And he's an American, so.
Don Hahn
I know, but a little bit of trolling there, which was fun.
Alan Hahn
I would hope so.
Don Hahn
You would think so. Aaron, Nola talked About did you hear from teammates before the game? Kind of like, you know, what you need to do? No, I didn't. I didn't hear hear from them. I don't think anybody in the clubhouse was worried about USA getting in or not getting in. We were just focusing on the game. We're not going to go out there and try to score a certain amount of runs or do this and that just because, you know, another team, you know, it's a big league baseball game. We're going to go out and try to win it however we can. We're going to go out and try to win the baseball game. And that' what we did tonight. So no nola, by the way, five shutout innings in this game. And so because of the, the run differential and all that, I don't even know how the machinations, how do they work? It doesn't matter. The US are in and Mark DeRosa, the manager of Team USA, who we remember got caught up in all that stuff because he thought the US Was already in before their game against Italy and then afterwards tried to say that, no, no, no, I knew we weren't in yet. Well, he's continuing to clarify all these things that he thought he said or didn't say about the US Clinching before that game. Yeah, it's just an overly confident statement on hot stove, period, the end. And it's my fault. I think there's a couple false narratives out there. But no, I was well aware that we had to win that game based on all the scenarios that could take place. I mean, they went in two zero, we went in two zero. We knew they were playing Mexico the next day. We knew there was tiebreaker rules involved. So I can understand, understand the questions about lineup and pitching situations we were
Alan Hahn
up against, you know, a lot of
Don Hahn
guardrails with regards to teams, the deployment of certain relievers, how many pitches they can use, whether they can go back out, whether they can clean up innings. And you're just trying to piece it together in real time. He's calling BS here.
Alan Hahn
Well, it's bs but I also feel bad for him and I want to give Dan Grass the credit for this because he was paying attention to a lot closer than I was. The WBC of how they celebrated after their third win made it seem like they thought they were in. And all of the moves that Derosa was talking about made it seem like it was the day after you clinched. And I believe the entire, the entire organization of baseball for USA thought they clinched. It's not everybody's making it seem like he. I don't think anybody know. I thought they legitimately thought they were in. And now Derosa's got to be the face of this failure. And now he's just probably responding to the orders of. This is what I think you need to say. I think they all got caught with their pants down because they're taking it seriously in the sense of I want to win, but not like the end of life. Because if this were a regular season tie breaking scenario, do you think there would be a manager out there? They wouldn't know every single scenario before the game started. It'd be talked about ad nauseam. He would say to everything. There would never be caught with your pants down because it's way more important. This is a fun thing that just wasn't taken all that seriously.
Peter Rosenberg
I here's my pushback, Alan. I believe that this thing is not serious, but not because of what Don said. I think there is a scenario in which, because the tournament is different, this is unlike other baseball, that while you could care a lot about it, that could potentially slip through the cracks. To me, all you need to know is the fact that American players, some of the American players are going home and not finishing.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
That to me is way more damning than. We didn't realize that the run, the run total, the run differential was about how we advance because we're just thinking about going out, winning baseball games. I can actually have that conversation with you. It's unlike other baseball leaving, saying a tournament's important and some players leave during the. So you're telling me there are some players who are not willing to shake hands with the teammates they have on their major league team because it's so serious. But other teammates said, hey, this has been a fun couple weeks. Yeah, I gotta get out of here.
Alan Hahn
I gotta get back to.
Don Hahn
You guys don't need me. Right? Right. I'm not available to pitch. So come on, let me get out of here and get back to my team rather than.
Alan Hahn
This is all. I want to be with the boys.
Don Hahn
I want to win this thing.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, listen, I'm going to get out of the pool early because I got to go to work.
Peter Rosenberg
It's been fun, though.
Alan Hahn
Have fun, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it's like, it's like, it's like they're all. They all went out to play 18 and some of them were like, I gotta leave after 15. We're just messing around anyway.
Don Hahn
Yeah, it's a long day.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, you want to, you want to win. But hey, we all got to get back to work.
Don Hahn
Well, listen, it gets, it gets real now because it does matter. The quarterfinals begin. It's Friday night. The U.S. will play play Canada in Houston. And Don, did you see who sent a little hype video to USA Baseball?
Alan Hahn
I don't know this.
Don Hahn
That'd be Jack Hughes. Oh, did he? Yeah. So. So DeRosa said, shared it with the group that Jack Hugh sent a little bit of a message to. Like he said, sent the boys a nice little fire up message from Jack Hughes. Boy, Jack Hughes has now become the face of anything American sports.
Alan Hahn
It. It is crazy. There's no. You know how much I love hockey. You do. But, but how many of those guys knew who Jack Hughes was before he scored that goal?
Don Hahn
Oh, the players.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, man. All right.
Alan Hahn
The. The only people that would know him, they just happened to be hockey.
Don Hahn
Aaron Judge probably does because it's New York.
Alan Hahn
York. Well, they might have ran into each other at different functions or whatever. Or maybe they're hockey fans. There might be baseball players that are hockey fans that know them. But now everybody knows them. Right?
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
And this puts into perspective too that will vest. Tyler Rogers and Tim Hill have been added to the USA roster to replace Tim. Heel, Tim. Heel Tim Hill.
Don Hahn
Yeah, yeah, no, I know, but I just, like I'm saying it, you know
Alan Hahn
Tim, he said to replace Scuba Waka and Yarborough. So it's. There you go, three guys lead now some of them, they're not going to pitch in the game, so they go back home. But listen, both things could be right. They want to win, it's a cool thing. But stop with the Olympics. Stop with it. Maybe it'll get to a point where these guys are really going to want to kill themselves to be a part of it. Maybe one day they'll try to do something in the Olympics like Alan suggested yesterday. I think right now it's a fun little exhibition. Bob Costa got it right. It's for baseball fans. But nobody is going to do something in that game. Friday or the. When's the championship game? I know the US plays on Friday,
Don Hahn
so they would advance.
Alan Hahn
I'm assuming Sunday.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
Austin's Saturday is the other game. So they. It might be Sunday, might be Monday. Whenever it is that if somebody hits a gay. Unless it's Aaron Judge isn't going to be on Saturday Night Live, isn't going to be on Fallon, you know, isn't going to be a household name the way Jack Hughes became. Because it's not the Olympics.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
And it's not supposed to be. And maybe it'll get there, but it's not. But. And I just. I think it felt. It felt a little forced because it was less than a month after what we saw the men and women do
Don Hahn
in Italy, and they're still trying to. You know, derosa was talking about jerseys being sent over for the guys to wear during batting practice. You know, it is US Canada. It is baseball, but it's still US Canada. So the whole idea of just kind of creating that or recreating, you know, the. The energy that was behind the. Obviously, the gold medal game and to try to use it as some sort of way to draw attention to it, that's the problem. It almost feels like you're still trying to borrow. Imagine that, Don. An American sport known once as an American pastime, trying to draw inspiration from the sport that everybody just keeps pushing down in the US Is one that isn't very significant.
Alan Hahn
Well, I think, Peter, if Team Canada wins the wbc, Sidney Crosby will feel a lot better, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, yeah. It's all balanced out.
Don Hahn
We have an issue with the fact that it seems like the US Guys
Peter Rosenberg
are getting pulled back from their teams,
Alan Hahn
saying, like, they're not going to get
Don Hahn
work, so we're going to. We have to get them back to spring training so they can get right. I haven't really heard that unless I.
Peter Rosenberg
Unless I'm missing it from other teams.
Don Hahn
Seems like everybody that's there is there, and they're going to play. They're staying even. But see, again, availability. Right. Let's say I'm. It's not my day to pitch or whatever it is, so I'm not going to pitch Friday. And if they go to the championship, I won't be in line to pitch that day either because of scheduling with, you know, the arms and all that. Because it sounds like it was just pitchers, Right. That was. That was switched out. Yeah. So pictures. I just look at that as. Wait a second. Okay, you're not available. That's fine. Wouldn't you want to. Like you've just went through this. Wouldn't you want to be there for the boys? I want to be in the clubhouse. I want to be there.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Like some reason you felt obligated to
Don Hahn
be there, and your team is saying, no, we need you here, we want you here instead. Is that part of.
Alan Hahn
No, I mean, that they were told, we need you to do the wbc, man. Come on. We need some good players there.
Don Hahn
It does.
Alan Hahn
Go, go. Like I said, the second year, but the second. But. All right, Good but the second I can come back, I'm coming back.
Don Hahn
Yeah, it's just something, something strange and that's fine.
Alan Hahn
Which is why I'm sure Major League Baseball encouraged the stars. Hey, we've invested a lot in this thing. We want it to work. Yeah, we want the best players to be. That's why I think Judge is there. I mean, I don't want to put words in Judge's mouth, but I feel like Judge is all in on the Yankees and probably doesn't really want to do this. I think he wants to represent his country and I think he wants to win. But I think pressure is strong. But I think it was suggested to him it'd be a good thing if he played.
Don Hahn
It's important for you to play. It's important you should play whatever it is that you want to do there,
Alan Hahn
you know, and Trout played before you, you know, I think you want to keep that legacy. It's really hard to sell this without having the best players in the it
Don Hahn
would be really hard to sell it as an Olympic sport without these guys as well.

Just made the list, buddy.
Don Hahn
This is the list with Don Hahn and Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you love the program, don't you? This. You love this show. You're part of it. You feel the things that we feel. You go through the emotions. And less than a week ago tomorrow, it will be one week while that time flies since Donald and myself had, I would say the most awkward and legitimate fight of the DHR era. How you living what you know? Don and I have had others in previous eras, but so far in the Don Hahn and Rosenberg era, this was the most aggressive fight anyone's had, I think on the show. And it's led to conversation about music. And now that tempers have calmed, apologies have been made, bro. Hugs have been given, slices of pizza have been shared. All is good. And we're just having now a conversation about music. The crux of the argument that we got into, even though it was, it happened very quickly, so it's hard to know what feelings were really there. The perceived argument, I should say was I got upset because I thought Don was saying that hip hop didn't have a truly emotional register, that you couldn't get to that place in hip hop. That's how I took it. And rather than say to Don, hey Don, you know, I hear what you're saying, I disagree. And as a man who loves music, I can show you that there's more, I decided to go with, you're a moron. But here we are. But here we are six days later and I have put together a list of my Five favorite emotional hip hop records. Don, like your list. These are just my opinion. People can absolutely argue with me and say these are wrong and they see it completely differently, but this is my list. So these are the five that I, when going through it over the last couple of days, came up with as my absolute five favorites. Alan, if you're okay with it and it permits, I'm going to give you a couple of honorable mentions off the top that didn't make the list.
Alan Hahn
List.
Peter Rosenberg
All right.
Don Hahn
Yes, of course.
Peter Rosenberg
Chum by Earl Sweatshirt. Really, really great record. Hard to explain exactly what it's about, but he talks about a lot of stuff with his dad who left him when he was a kid. Beautiful song. Slip in by dmx. I'm sure you're a fan, Alan. Solid, solid DMX song. Super emotional one that Jacob played yesterday coming back from break on the show that taps into that parent thing. Lauryn Hills to Zion about the birth of her baby boy.
Don Hahn
And that's not even your top five. Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn't make it. Didn't make it.
Don Hahn
Okay.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
The bush babies, remember, we remix. Just a great, great record. Sad, heartfelt, beautifully produced by Salaam Remy. I'm sure you remember this one, Alan. Smile from Scarface.
Don Hahn
Yep.
Peter Rosenberg
Just a touching record. This can't be life and loss ones are two Jay Z songs that hit me in the heart. Birds don't sing off the Clips album. They just were nominated for a Grammy for it. It's amazing. About the death of their parents. Each verse about the specific way in which both sons, because they're brothers, Don. Found out about the deaths of their aging parents.
Alan Hahn
It didn't make the top five.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn't make top five.
Don Hahn
These all didn't make top five.
Peter Rosenberg
So lastly, lastly, Renee by the Lost Boys.
Don Hahn
That's not a. Wait, wait, Renee's not a top five?
Peter Rosenberg
Renee's not top five? Renee's not my top five.
Don Hahn
Well, who are you taking out? Let's find out.
Peter Rosenberg
It's an incredible song, Renee, but it's also like, you know, it's. It's beautiful, but it's also like, I don't know, it's silly at times. Even though it's beautiful and sad. Just some of the rhymes to be a little silly. Shots to Mr. Cheeks. I love the Lost Boys. Love, love. We love Queens. All right, let's get to my top five emotional hip hop songs. Number five is, of course, extra personally touching because I love this man so much. And after he passed away, it just makes it hit that much more. It's Called Come Back to Earth by Mac Miller.
Alan Hahn
My regrets look just like text I shooting sand and I got neighbors that
Don Hahn
more like strangers we could be friends. I can see Don getting emotional.
Peter Rosenberg
Beautiful song.
Don Hahn
You know what it's about?
Peter Rosenberg
I've got. It's just every word to this song is gorgeous. If you never spent time with Mac Miller's last couple of albums, he had another song or two that almost made the top five from those albums because they're so good. But, Don, you will truly love that song, guaranteed. Don't know if it hit you in any way when you first heard the notes of it. Any. Any. Did. Did the tone of it affect you?
Don Hahn
Of course.
Alan Hahn
No. Affect me. It sounds good. There you go. I. I'm not getting emotional.
Don Hahn
I'm sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, no, it'll take a moment.
Don Hahn
All right, that's five. We have four to go. We've gotta, like, put a little. Put a little. Giddy up.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, you want. You want a little more pep in your step?
Don Hahn
A little. A little bit.
Peter Rosenberg
This is emotion, for God's sake. I understand number number four, by the way. You saying that is. The irony is deeply.
Alan Hahn
Matthew Johnson.
Peter Rosenberg
If you had a list. Alan, if you had a list of top five songs, it would continue till tomorrow.
Don Hahn
That. That. That obviously is not true, but it's. It's Don's list. When fed. We. We won't have time.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, Fair, Fair, Fair.
Alan Hahn
All right, sorry.
Peter Rosenberg
Here we go.
Don Hahn
Number four.
Peter Rosenberg
The late, great, notorious Biggie Smalls. Before he died, Biggie on his album had a song about his friends who had passed away. It's produced by the great KG of Naughty by Nature. It's called.
Don Hahn
I really do like this song. But because I was listening really closely at the start, the fact that you just hear the. I don't know why. It just comes off.
Peter Rosenberg
You hurt, you cat. Caught every ad list.
Don Hahn
It's just fun.
Peter Rosenberg
My favorite part, listening to this song when he's talking about his childhood is the shout out that he gives to someone named Crackhead Kevin. I'm like, he couldn't have loved that nickname. Crackhead Kevin somewhere is going, give me a break. All right, Number three. I have literally, this is one of those songs that when it gets to the end, you know a certain part of the song, I choke up every time I hear it.
Alan Hahn
It.
Peter Rosenberg
It's. It's the end of Andre 3000's verse in the Art of Storytelling by Outkast. Somebody hit me the other day for
Alan Hahn
a rendezvous Was it.
Peter Rosenberg
So you should listen to it. It's Donna Again, it's called the Art of Storytelling because on each verse they both tell their own story. And Andre's story about the girl that he knew in when he was in school and about the way her life ends up and her eventual death is just heartbreaking and amazing. The Art of Storytelling, Part 1 by Outkast. This is the one I mentioned in the argument, Don, because we talked about talking father and son. This is a father daughter song that was not able to hit me until I had my daughter. It's called She's Mine, Part 2 by J. Cole. Shout out to my wife who put me onto the song. Natalie loved this before me.
Alan Hahn
Catch me don't you catch me don't you catch me I fall in love for the first time for you I
Peter Rosenberg
dropped the tough guys, so check that out. When you get a chance. You got to listen to the whole thing. Also, can you please. Jacob, you got to pull the other beat down completely. I heard a slight up tempo list beat under She's Mine Part two. It hurt the thing. Now, Alan, we're not going to argue with this. I think you will go, oh my God. It's number one, of course, with a bullet. I didn't think about it all day, and then all of a sudden it hit me and I was like, what am I doing? This is number one. It's. It's named after. The name of the song is based on. On a person who passed away in real life. That being said, the words of the song are kind of all over the place, but the aesthetic is what hits you so much of this song. Of course, I'm talking about one of the most emotional songs of any genre ever made. They Reminisce over you by Pete Rock and CL Smooth.
Don Hahn
Not really the song yet. This is the song. They Reminisce over you is the. Really? They use the acronym for Troy Trouble T. Roy.
Peter Rosenberg
So the.
Don Hahn
Yes, good.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead. No, you go ahead, Alan.
Don Hahn
No, I was just. I was just gonna say like this. This is definitely one of those. That is a tribute to a friend and a dear friend and all that stuff.
Peter Rosenberg
But the words of the song aren't like don't. Don't completely go.
Don Hahn
No, it's more about parts of it.
Alan Hahn
Go with it.
Don Hahn
But it's more about life experiencing life thing. Right. So that's your.
Alan Hahn
That's it.
Peter Rosenberg
That's. They Reminisce over you by Pete Rocket Tail Smooth, AKA Troy for Trouble T. Roy, a member of Heavy D and the Boys, one of Heavy D's dancers who famously tragically died in an accident like a year before they made this song. Number five, come Back to Earth, Mac Miller. Number four, miss yous by Biggie. Three, Art of Storytelling, Part One by outkast. Two, She's Mine, Part Two by J. Cole. And number one, they Reminisce over you by Pete Rockinsiel.
Alan Hahn
Smooth.
Don Hahn
Don Moved. No. Dear Mama. Interesting.
Alan Hahn
Dear. Thought about it.
Peter Rosenberg
Thought about it.
Alan Hahn
Wasn't even an honorable hard because not. None of the parts that would move me were really played.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
All he got to do is feel like a second of it. That's why I say with these lists, all you can do is then take the list on, I'll send it to you and. And punch it in your YouTube machine.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
And see if it. See if it hits you.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
But you. But you got to actually, like, you know, drive it in the car, whatever. Give it a. Give it a real. You know, a real listen.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Another playlist I will definitely put together.
Peter Rosenberg
And Brenda's got. By the way, Tupac could have had a lot on there. There's Dear Mama, there's Brenda's got a baby, there's Keep your head up.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Don Hahn
It's good, too, with changes. Is Jodeci in that? Right. Keep your head up.
Peter Rosenberg
No. Keep your head up. No.
Don Hahn
Who is it? I think it's. It's Casey and Jojo, so it is technically.
Peter Rosenberg
No, keep it. No, no, no.
Don Hahn
I'm thinking. I ain't match mad at you. That's what I'm thinking.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Who's doing the Ooh, child in that?
Alan Hahn
Who does the.
Peter Rosenberg
This is. This is. This is prior to the Jodeci collabs.
Don Hahn
Well, it's.
Peter Rosenberg
But yeah, there's a lot of Tupac that could have made it. It just didn't.
Don Hahn
Okay. Don.
Peter Rosenberg
It's no disrespect.
Don Hahn
You get the last word, Don, that
Alan Hahn
we forgot to say happy birthday to Jacob.
Don Hahn
We were going to.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God.
Don Hahn
I mean, there is.
Alan Hahn
Late in the show, bro.
Don Hahn
Yeah. That's a really good opportunity.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's true.
Don Hahn
I was going to share a. That.
Alan Hahn
Because I got nothing other than that. So. I'm sorry. I. I just don't know what to say. I don't know what to say.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't. I don't think.
Alan Hahn
Because the one thing about it I will say, outside of the. The Bobby Goldsboro song, the other four songs are songs that I think people recognize. I don't. Were they hip hop hits?
Peter Rosenberg
Were they Reminisce is a hit. Reminisce is a standard. Was A huge miss you by Biggie. Well known because it's Biggie Art of storytelling. Very well known because it's outcast and one of the biggest groups of all time. She's mine. Part two would be J. Cole fans. You'd have to be of like a, you know, probably younger people that know it and the Mac Miller come back to earth. If you're a Mac Miller fan.
Don Hahn
It's.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean Jacob, you knew every song on the list. Well, right?
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Because they're all like around my age
Alan Hahn
range or like around where I was listening to music.
Don Hahn
Honestly, the J. Cole one stick out
Alan Hahn
to me the most. I think that's the one that probably especially you. You guys being, you know, daughter dads or you know, having daughters. Yeah, exactly. That you're. He's made a new one.
Peter Rosenberg
Daughter dads doesn't hit this. Listen, Kobe came up with girl dad and Jacob, I don't know if your daughter dad is going to make.
Don Hahn
Listen, I don't have any kids but.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you don't have kids. And real quick, Alan, to put a ball what you were saying because I didn't realize this. Keep your head up. The vocals you're talking about was actually Dave Hollister who's a great singer in his own right. I did not realize he sung on. On keep your head up. But anyways, that's my top five. Don. Check them out and we'll. I want some feedback tomorrow. That's what I want. Be back tomorrow.
Don Hahn
All right. Peter's list. It's another playlist I'll put together. I. I will reveal that Don's list which included a couple of extra songs that I added that I thought could have been in consideration. Listen to it on the drive home. Sitting through traffic and melted down. I will. I'll be the first to admit that melted.
Peter Rosenberg
I hope I can get you to melt down with us.
Don Hahn

Don Hahn
I think you should. I think you should, too.
Alan Hahn
What about you, Peter?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you said partake in a beverage.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, no wing. Maybe two.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no fat. Once the game starts, you mean?
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Don Hahn
Oh, yeah.
Alan Hahn
God bless. Okay.
Don Hahn
God bless.
Alan Hahn
But I guess you're not. You're out.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no, no. What do you mean, no? No, I'm saying God bless. I'm down.
Don Hahn
Okay. I'm into it. I love it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, I mean, I'm. Now, listen, I'd have to get a car service if I wanted to participate in. In more than one lovely, luxurious.
Alan Hahn
Okay, that makes sense.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's a week. It's a weeknight. You're talking about Wednesday. You're talking about next Wednesday, because we also have.
Alan Hahn
We also have.
Peter Rosenberg
You know. You feel like having a beverage tomorrow once we finish up the old program?
Don Hahn
You know, I have a game after the game tomorrow night.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that would have to be a
Alan Hahn
Sam Adams or a Sun Cruiser, I would think, though.
Don Hahn
Yeah, you definitely.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, maybe two of each.
Don Hahn
Probably go get a bucket For a
Alan Hahn
good group of fans, no offense, it's Friday. Goodbye. Yeah, we love you, but on Wednesday.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, wait, you're saying to me. So you're saying to me, Don, no offense, it's Friday. You're out.
Alan Hahn
Yes.
Don Hahn
Oh, but Wednesday.
Alan Hahn
But Wednesday, we're. We were.
Don Hahn
It's a hockey night. It's a hockey night in Jersey.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. But I don't know. I don't quite understand the difference because I would think either way, you're missing. By the time you get home, you're missing kids to time.
Don Hahn
Right.
Alan Hahn
Well, it's a Friday. They step a little later on Friday. Let's see how. Let's see how the day matures.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. And you got to check the traffic. If you check the traffic, it may be awful leaving. You think, hey, I'd rather hang out
Don Hahn
for an hour, you know, maybe we
Peter Rosenberg
go to the Garden and take in some basketball to you and me, you
Alan Hahn
know, while we're deciding on all that stuff.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Alan Hahn
We should talk about things that are. Are definite, and that is that I have big on having a game plan. Like we're trying to put together a game plan for Friday on the ice and at home, which is why we use Viking Pest Control. Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
That the Titans have signed safety Tony Adams, former Jet, of course. All they're doing former jets and Giants.
Don Hahn
Jets and Giants like you dream about, wouldn't you say? If we want to build a winning team, let's get a bunch of former jets and Giants of recent vintage because there's been so much winning happening.
Alan Hahn
Is that really the formula, guys? Well, I get getting guy like, you know, parcels. Always that guy. Because parcels won Super Bowl. Well, yeah, they have pepper Johnson and 10 and banks and guys, you know, So I don't know. But good luck to him.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Hahn
If you're a Jet fan, Hope the Titans are 0:17 because it looks like they got their quarterback, right?
Don Hahn
They hope so. Yeah. Cam Ward should be Their guy. It's the one thing they don't have to go find a former Jet. Would Zach Wilson end up as a backup quarterback in Tennessee? Your thoughts? If you really want.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the one place I don't think.
Don Hahn
I think they just signed Trubisky, though.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, remember. You laugh, Peter, but remember Dable had
Don Hahn
the relationship with him, I think, when
Peter Rosenberg
he was in Buffalo.
Alan Hahn
Sure.
Don Hahn
So it's probably familiarity.
Peter Rosenberg
Familiarity. Do you have the sad music over there?
Don Hahn
Who are we apologizing to now? Jacob?
Peter Rosenberg
I got it.
Alan Hahn
Is it the jets again?
Don Hahn
Oh, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Titans fans, really, you deserve better than this. It's hard enough be. It's hard enough being a Titans fan to now become a Titans fan. But the guts are of the Jets. That's even worse.
Don Hahn
To be called the Titans, which is very ironic.
Peter Rosenberg
Ironic when you think about. But think about that not only are you a Titans fan, which is bad enough, but now your Titans are being comprised. The guts, the innards of the team are former jets and Giants. It's Don. It's like if you're like, oh, my God, I heard I need a heart transplant. And they go, oh, cool, you're getting a new heart. No, they're just putting in a used tuna can. I mean, this is a horrible, horrible place to be if you're a Titans fan.
Alan Hahn
Did you ever see Young Frankenstein?
Peter Rosenberg
No, but I'm familiar.
Alan Hahn
Goes to get the brain of a genius and he drops the brain because he's going to put it in Frankenstein's monster. And he takes the abnormal brain and puts it in. And of course, the monster ends up being a problem. And Dr. Frankenstein, as he said in Young Frankenstein, asks him, whose brain did you get? Oh, something Abby normal. I think it was Abby normal. It's like that's what it feels like. You put in the animal bad innards and put in War Centers.
Peter Rosenberg
How. How is this what they're doing?
Don Hahn
Okay, this is what they're doing.
Alan Hahn
And also the worst year of Giants football is the other half of the team.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. One half worst jets, the other half worst Giants.
Alan Hahn
Right.
