On 880 ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers. All right, so you guys remember obviously when the, when the jets signed Justin Fields, there was, you know, a big, a big media reaction to it because Fields is a guy that I think a lot of people very interested in to see if he can get his career on track in the NFL. He'd be on his third team now, had an opportunity in Pittsburgh. But then Russell Wilson took over for him. He never got back as a starter. And so instead of resigning with Pittsburgh, he waited and decided that he's going to go to the Jets. He reunites with Garrett Wilson. They were together at Ohio State. Well, there were all kinds of posts. You had Bleacher Report for one. People love to do this. They do the edits where they put a player right in the jersey. Pretty amazing how they can make it look so lifelike. They have a picture up and it's Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson, like as if they're on the field in a game.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Carl Banks
Well, this was retweeted by Chris Olave, who was the other wide receiver at Ohio State with Justin Fields and Garrett Wilson.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Carl Banks
And he retweeted it with three fire emojis. And that got a lot of jets fans excited because they thought a lot of he wants to be part of this. They want to reunite. They want to bring the bat, get the band back together. And so there's this now push social media wise, which is picked up by all the content creators of this idea that the jets should try to trade for Chris Olave. Now, it's fun, but I could tell you, I mean, Kellen Moore just got there. You think he wants to trade away Chris Olave? It's the last thing they want to do. He's got two years left. He and Wilson obviously are both in the same place off their rookie deals. They're looking for extensions. I don't see it, but it's fun. But Is it amazing how one little tweet where he's probably just kind of supporting his guys turns into Chris Olave, wants to leave the Saints and join the Jets?
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, by the way, it would make total sense that it's just him celebrating. All my boys are getting together. That's great.
Don Hahn
Yeah, like that's probably all it is.
Carl Banks
Of course it is.
Peter Rosenberg
People are so.
Carl Banks
But it just turns into a thing that, that all of a sudden I'm getting an alert and it's like jets looking to trade for a lava question mark. And I'm like, hang on a second. That can't be true. You gotta of course do the research.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, guys, slightly different note, but just so I don't forget I've mentioned this at times during the in season tournaments that I hate the alt courts. Have you guys seen the filth that is. What is it, the Big 12?
Carl Banks
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
It is the most repug and disgusting court I've ever seen. We have to stop.
Carl Banks
This has become a thing in basketball now and I think the NBA started. Although in college basketball there are some places that they have come up with these crazy courts, these icons.
Peter Rosenberg
Don, have you seen this yet?
Don Hahn
I have not. No.
Peter Rosenberg
Don, Don, let me tell you, I'll describe it like this. The court that they're using makes the Boise State field look normal. Like that's fine. Don't even worry about it. It's. It's in. It's just al. It's like checkers. It's repulsive.
Carl Banks
Yes. Not going on.
Don Hahn
When you get it right, you get it right. Like LSU with the tiger eye at midfield and the way it kind of like fans out. They. They nailed it. Boise State as you mentioned, with the blue turf. They nailed it. They got it right. I think the Bucks, right, Allen. Or is it Oregon that's got like the forest in the court? Might be.
Carl Banks
Oh no, no, that's Stanford, I believe.
Don Hahn
Well, there might be. Stanford might use it too. But I think there is even one is either Oregon or sometimes the Bucks will use it more like that. It really looks nice.
Carl Banks
Really.
Peter Rosenberg
Don, I'm surprised to hear this from you though. You like the Boise State field, huh?
Don Hahn
I do. Wow. Because it's, you know why? It's right with the first, you know, and if you start getting crazy. But you know, it was kind of a unique thing and, and I get it. You're Boise State, right? And you're trying to pop, you know, it's. It's tough. So I got it and, and I liked it. I can Understand people not liking it and being. It's not traditional, but you know, it's. Listen, it's fake. Right? I understand you have green to try to pretend it's grass. We know it's not really grass. Right. So you can have a little fun with it if you want some get crazy. Like the in season tournament ones were. Some of them were nice and some of them were got. Most of them were. Got awful.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean the basketball court is such a beautiful thing. Like you really don't need to do much to make the basketball court look awesome. It looks fantastic. And sometimes they're just trying too hard, man.
Carl Banks
Well, it's just. And who are they doing this for?
Peter Rosenberg
That. That's the question.
Carl Banks
No, they're making it look like a video game for the younger generation. Yeah, that's what they're doing.
Don Hahn
Well, it started with uniforms. There are people, I have heard that there are football players that choose Oregon because the uniforms are gorgeous and they love the neon green. Like, listen, that's not going to be the sole reason why you choose to go to Oregon. But if you got like five or six places to go and you really like their uniforms, that. That might be what helps you win the face off.
Carl Banks
Wouldn't you go to Michigan just for all the Jordan gear?
Don Hahn
Fair Think about it. Right?
Carl Banks
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean a lot of places have it. You got options.
Don Hahn
But just like anything else, right? Every. Any choice you make, sometimes it hits and you just don't know why it does. Like, why does a certain song hit and other songs just never gain any traction? Right. So it's the kind of same thing with these courts or jerseys. Like sometimes, hey, you just nailed it. Sometimes you try way too hard and he completely misses the mark.
Peter Rosenberg
Elon Musk and his people need to stop making my mail go slower and go to the people coming up with the weird court and field ideas. These are jobs that need to be taken away.
Carl Banks
This is what we need to figure out is that if you want courts.
Peter Rosenberg
Trim the fat with the weird court, okay?
Carl Banks
If you want an executive order, let's stop with the weird courts, Don, by the way, when does it. When does it trickle into the NHL? When does white, the plain white ice start to like. Because if you look in Europe, by the way, you ever watch a game over there, the whole ice is covered in logos, the face off circles.
Don Hahn
Well, they're all walking billboards. But you've got to be careful with the puck though. You can't. The puck, the white ice with the black puck. You've got to Be able to follow it. Right.
Carl Banks
You can't get much better. You could see it. Right. Of course. Have you ever seen, like we've seen now, the dasher boards? At least on the msg, on the MSG broadcasts, The dasher boards are now kind of. What would they call that? It's. It's. You don't see them anymore. Is it. Is it the ads that are superimposed over the dashboard? And it'll move at first. It takes you a minute to get used to it because you'll see, like, movement along the board. You go, what the hell is that? It's distracting you from the game. But that's a new thing that they have added. And it's PC.
Don Hahn
Richard Buy time in Vancouver doesn't make sense.
Carl Banks
That's right. So. So anyways, there's one ad I know for Islander games where the boards are blue. So it's before the puck drops. And whatever ad it is, it's the whole. All the boards are blue. And I gotta be honest, it's a very interesting look. And I'm like, I wonder if there's ever going to be a team that decides we're gonna go with a. Like a. Our boards will be whatever colored the team is, whether. You know, you could go green, you go blue, whatever it is. And it would be a contrast. It would be a stark contrast, but it might be striking. And I wonder if maybe not on the ice surface, because you're right, the puck and the player movement is so fast, your eyes are barely looking down when you skate, so you see the puck peripherally and the white ice and the black puck helps your vision. But who's to say you couldn't do it with the boards?
Don Hahn
Yeah, but you got to be careful, too, because again, sight lines are important. So even though you wouldn't lose the puck in the boards, on television or at the game, if you're a goaltender and a shot's taken from the wing and you lose sight of the puck because. Yeah.
Carl Banks
So you don't think you can do it in the NHL?
Don Hahn
I don't know. I mean, listen, I'm sure they will try. If it means extra money or whatever, they'll do whatever they can, you know, competition be damned. But, yeah, we'll. We'll see that. But I. I do like what they've done on television to just have different ads. And you'll see, like, rangers win will pop up around the whole. Yep, the D. Like, tonight if they win. Like, why would Minnesota kill. Like, people don't realize that that's not what they see in the arena. It's crazy. I. Don't you ever notice this? I mean, Peter might remember because he's old enough. But when I got, I was a kid and whenever you, you go to Winnipeg, Montreal, any of the Canadian cities, Quebec, for some reason, especially around the goal, the ice would have like a.
Peter Rosenberg
Blue hue to it.
Don Hahn
Yes, but only in the Canadian cities. Like, I always wonder, like, what's going on there. Like, not anywhere else. But, you know, there'd be a game over at the. God, I can't even, I guess with the Winnipeg Arena. I don't remember if it had a name. I'm trying to remember. Might just been the Winnipeg Arena. It's like, and it's like, why is there like a blue hue around, like in the corners? And you notice that too, right?
Carl Banks
Yeah, I did. I have. Whenever you watch the old games, I think Vancouver, it was that in the finals.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Carl Banks
There was a space in front of Richard Brodeur that for some reason looked like it was a puddle, you know, like something like that. So that's all.
Peter Rosenberg
How do you feel about. How do you feel about Gardner Minshew going to back up?
Carl Banks
Yeah, I was going to get into football here, Mr. Mahomes. That's interesting for Gardner Minshew because it's clearly him going with the idea that, okay, I'm going to be a backup because there are still. Right, there are still options if he wanted to consider. Or maybe he just. His agent is being told, like, yeah, no, we're not considering him. So why don't you take a good situation like, you know, having Andy Reid overseeing and being in the quarterback room with Patrick Mahomes. So it's that that's not terrible. Now, again, for the Giants, the story is that Russell Wilson was in Cleveland and left without a deal. He's now in New York meeting with the Giants tonight. That's the latest that we've heard on that. We don't know any more at that point, but the Giants options at quarterback feel like, okay, is it just going to be the veteran quarterback or are they still going to try to do something with their draft pick? Let's hear from Adam Schefter here. He was on with DNR this morning. And the first question that everybody wants to know is, are the Giants trying to trade up to number one to ensure they can get the quarterback they want? If they are trying to do that in the draft, I think the Giants.
Adam Schefter
Could trade up to one. They'd go there in a heartbeat. The Problem is they may not even have that option. So that's the issue there. You know, Tennessee falls in love with Cam Ward.
Peter Rosenberg
It's over.
Adam Schefter
And the Giants hopes of getting up to one are over. And, and I think it's tracking that way, but it's still only March 13, and there's still plenty of time to go and things can change.
Carl Banks
All right, so that, like him saying it's tracking that way, meaning that Ward will be gone. Now, what do they do at three? You know, that's, that's, that's the thing. Like again, is Sanders their guy? Do they trade back on three if they can get somebody else? You know, this is what, this is what the story's going to be for.
Don Hahn
The jobs, all the stuff with the draft I kind of just take with a grain of salt.
Richard
Right.
Carl Banks
Because you don't love this.
Don Hahn
There'd be never any reason for a general manager other than Tennessee who's got the first pick and can't be affected would ever tell you what they're going to do. And if anything, they're going to tell you a lie in a smokescreen. But we've heard everything. Cleveland. Cleveland definitely taking a quarterback. Oh, no, no. Cleveland's out on a quarterback. Look at Russell Wilson. They're talking to him. I don't believe anything that I hear. But the one thing that you do when you talk about tracking and just reading the tea leaves sounds like it's one of two things. Either the Giants aren't interested in either quarterback or they're interested in only Ward.
Carl Banks
Right.
Don Hahn
And know that they can't get them at three. So it's either make a deal with Tennessee or have a veteran quarterback. It sounds to me like Sanders is going to be on the board at 4, which means I think there's a good chance that he's going to be there for the jets at 7 or.
Carl Banks
The Raiders, I don't know, because Gino. Like they did bring in Gino Smith, but. And they might sign him to an extension from what I understand. But I don't think they have yet.
Don Hahn
But I would think they traded for him for the purpose of giving him the contract. Right. The reason Seattle traded him because they didn't have any intention to give him.
Carl Banks
A long term deal. Right. So I think Carol had success with him too. So.
Don Hahn
So it's possible. So if you're signing Geno Smith to a long term deal, he's young enough that you're not drafting Sanders, even though it feels like what is Gino 34?
Carl Banks
He's got to be, he's got to be around that age. Yeah, he's been around a long time.
Don Hahn
But he doesn't have a lot of mileage on him, right?
Carl Banks
No, no. And again, he has not, he has not shown a drop off that, what that, that was not a flash in the pan a couple of years ago.
Peter Rosenberg
35 in October.
Carl Banks
35. Okay.
Peter Rosenberg
In October. In October.
Don Hahn
He's 35 in October. But he's only played in 94 NFL games.
Carl Banks
Right.
Don Hahn
So he doesn't have a ton of mileage.
Peter Rosenberg
No. He could be your guy for a few years if you want.
Don Hahn
Oh, I'm not saying you're giving him a big time contract, Peter, but you're probably going to sign him for three and he'll be your quarterback at least for two of those three years. So I don't think you're going to draft a quarterback gives you a contract.
Peter Rosenberg
It's interesting though, because he's not going to be so prohibitively expensive that like you've made some sort of monster commitment and that you might not be planning on quarterback, but if someone sexy slides to you, you might do it.
Carl Banks
That's why. And again, the relationship that Brady has with Sanders suggests, again, I know Tom Brady, we make a big deal about the fact that he's a minority owner, but for some reason it feels like he's involved Right. In a lot of things that they do, even though, quote unquote, he's a broadcaster. But it's hard to believe that they would pass on Sanders. Right. Like if he's sitting there at 6. Because if they do, I'll make a very bold prediction that isn't very bold. If he's at 7, the jets are taking him. I believe that wholeheartedly. If he's at 7, I think the jets are taking.
Don Hahn
I don't know.
Carl Banks
And you're not feeling that, Doc?
Peter Rosenberg
Why would they not?
Don Hahn
Because you're, you've, you've signed Fields to a two year contract, right. So the idea is, and he's only 26 years old, so the idea is we think this could be our future quarterback and maybe.
Carl Banks
We don't know.
Don Hahn
Maybe. And you get. And the only way you're going to find that out because, Because Justin Fields is not going to be any mentor to a young quarterback. He's a young quarterback, so he's probably, unless he just completely falls on his face, is going to get 17 starts in 25.
Peter Rosenberg
So if you not. But Don, it's not so much money that he couldn't have been a very Expensive insurance policy.
Don Hahn
Maybe. But what. I also didn't think they'd get him.
Peter Rosenberg
They didn't get Sanders. And then if they get the opportunity, maybe go for it.
Don Hahn
But I just think you. But it still could work out. Like let's say Justin Fields and we. We're fans of his right, Peter. That he ends up balling out in 25 and now you don't need a quarterback. And then Sanders is like, now you're all of a sudden, you're probably gonna have to trade him. And Deion's complaining because his son doesn't, you know, doesn't have a chance.
Carl Banks
Well, I don't care about that.
Don Hahn
No, I know you don't care about that, but. But turns into Patrick Mahomes.
Carl Banks
I don't care.
Don Hahn
It's noise. Yeah, you. You could have you if. Listen, they don't know that he's going to be there. Like I would almost say, do you take a chance on Dart where you don't have to play him right away?
Carl Banks
Yeah, I get it.
Don Hahn
And the momentum. Certainly, if you're just going to. If you really are going to pay attention to everything. It's Dart with a bullet up and Sanders with a bullet down. Like, it feels like by the time we get to the draft at the end of April, Dart may be the higher prospect than Sanders. Yeah, we've seen this happen before, guys. Post combine, all of a sudden things go crazy. And Dart comes from a really good up, you know, high second round pick, though he might go in the first round. Oh, he might go in the top 15 to where the jets might be sitting there at seven with a choice of the two quarterbacks and choose Dart.
Carl Banks
That's a field Yates. Right. Right after the combine. That's what he said. That all the indications that some people are starting to whisper about Jackson Dart is that he could end up being a top 10 pick by draft night. And I told you the hysteria that was building up. We're talking about in February, everybody was starting to bring his name up and like, honestly, if you follow college football casually, I'm not talking about if you're Die Hard, because if you're Die Hard, you know all these players, right? It's Ole Miss. That's where he played. I mean, you know, the sec. But casually paying attention to college football, no one knew who the hell this guy is. Nobody. And then the season ends and suddenly it's like, this guy's going to be, you know, this guy's a guy to watch in the draft. Then it goes. He could be A really good steal in the second round. And now all of a sudden, it's late first round. And then you get Field Yates, who's one of the. Our draft experts at espn, saying, I'm getting whispers this guy could be a top 10 before it's all said and done.
Don Hahn
Right. So don't be shocked if he's sitting there and the jets have a choice now. Is Sanders going to become the Brady Quinn, the Thurman Thomas, where all the cameras keep showing him at his house and he's living because he's not going to the draft? Sanders, so.
Carl Banks
Right. Rogers went through it.
Don Hahn
Yeah. Showing. Showing him. Showing him in his living room as each pick goes by and he's not being drafted.
Carl Banks
Yikes.
Don Hahn
It could happen again. I. Again, I take. Like I said, I take it all with a grain of salt because I don't think these general managers are telling you anything. But it does feel like the Giants have their sights set on Ward. As you said, they've done the work on him. That doesn't mean they take him. They did the work. They did the work on McCarthy and didn't take him. But if they can't trade up to one, then they're going to need a veteran. But who. What are they even saying to Wilson at this point? Listen, we're waiting on Rogers, so in case Rogers doesn't come to us, how would you. How much would it take, you know, to come here?
Carl Banks
I'm glad you said that, because I was thinking that and I forgot to get. To get to that when we brought this up. So you jog my memory. I was thinking that preparing for the show, it's like if Rogers. Which is what? Like Chef D, we played that earlier, is suggesting, like, Roger's going to take his time and make the decision. His other options, you know, he's in no hurry. So if you're Russell Wilson, are you. You're sort of in limbo because you meet with Cleveland. Cleveland, you leave without a deal. And then Cleveland signs Kenny Pickett, who tells everybody that they said, I'm going to compete for a. For a starting spot. And you don't know what they're going to do with number two pick. They could take a quarterback. So Russell Wilson isn't going to be there. Clearly. So you go to New York and you're talking to the Giants, and you're like, yeah, I'm good. I'd love to play here. Right? It's New York. Sierra would love it here. This is great. Let's do this. And if the Giants Say to him, not so fast. How do you feel if you're Russell Wilson? Like, hang on. You're gonna wait for Aaron Rodgers? Like I have to wait for you to decide between me and Aaron Rodgers. Like, you know, you got to feel a certain way, don't you?
Don Hahn
Now I would.
Carl Banks
You might tell them, forget it. I'm not going here either.
Don Hahn
I've made it very clear I would take Rogers over Wilson.
Carl Banks
But.
Don Hahn
But if he's. If Roger is going to take a sweet ass time and I'm obviously interested in Wilson, I'm talking to him. Doesn't that make him a little bit more attractive? That, hey, I can get it done.
Carl Banks
Yes.
Don Hahn
So, yeah, I'd rather have Rogers, but this guy's here. He'll sign with me. I need a veteran. I can't have the music stop and all the chairs are gone. Roger's got to be careful here, man. Like, I guess he figures there's going to be. Pittsburgh's eventually going to give it to him because they. They didn't trade for Metcalf to, to have.
Carl Banks
They brought in Mason Rudolph.
Don Hahn
Mason Rudolph to throw in the football.
Carl Banks
Yeah.
Don Hahn
But, you know, so is he just waiting for Pittsburgh? Is it what Peter said, just being a diva and wants all the attention on him, which I'd have to. I tap Aaron and say, listen, there isn't really a lot of attention, man. Just make your. Make your selection already. Nobody's waiting here.
Carl Banks
Well, the problem is because we're in that news cycle now where there isn't anything left. This is all they're talking about on NFL Live and get up because it's.
Don Hahn
Football and they're going to talk about something. But I got. I said it's not. If this was. Were a concert where you're waiting for the bit. This is like Guns N Roses. At some point. They're not coming out. Let's just leave. Like, people are starting to file out. We want to see. We want to see you. But you know, if I got away three hours here, I'm going to go home.
Carl Banks
Yeah.
Don Hahn
You know, yeah, the media is going to talk about it and all that, but they need something to talk about. We need something.
Peter Rosenberg
But the thing is, I think that part, like how much teams are actually clamoring, I think may be less significant than how much play it gets on espn.
Carl Banks
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, and that's not it. And by the way, I know that sounds like I'm being incredibly dismissive or insulting to him. I get it. He's at the end of it and it's I'm sure it's a good feeling to be like, oh yeah, people still care about me.
Carl Banks
Still a name.
Peter Rosenberg
But yeah, man, it's not a. It's not appealing if that's in fact what's happening. I mean, of course we don't know and we don't, as we said yesterday, and we don't even know how many people are actually in this conversation.
Don Hahn
And you know, Field Yates is reporting. The Giants are hosting free agent Joe Flacco.
Carl Banks
Head.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh boy.
Carl Banks
How does that make you feel?
Don Hahn
But you know, but I thought about that doesn't make you feel good. But they can't. I would. Because you could probably do both, right? Have Wilson and Flacco back him up. He's gonna need three quarterbacks, right? I mean, you're not gonna just have two with Tommy DeVito being your other quarterback. God loved the kid. But you know, in a perfect world, especially with the ages of these quarterbacks, that you probably would want somebody backing up Wilson if you're really trying to win, guys. And if the Giants get a veteran, they would. If they're not drafting a quarterback, would it be the worst thing in the world that Flacco's backing up Wilson?
Peter Rosenberg
But why then, why then actually sign any sort of real Deal with Tommy DeVito if Tommy DeVito is your third string quarterback, is that a necessary roster?
Don Hahn
I mean it's not like it's.
Peter Rosenberg
But like, can't you just literally wait and pick someone off the scrap heap if you're going to get an actual backup ahead of.
Don Hahn
It's kind of what Flacco is now at this point of his career. Right?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I listen, I believe he's, I.
Don Hahn
Mean, possibly tell me I'm trying to save my job with Joe Flacco. God love the guy. He's been a great story. Got Cleveland in the, the postseason a couple of years ago, but at this point, man, what are you. You're rolling. Are you going to put him on the COVID of your media guide? Like, here we go, let's roll.
Carl Banks
I don't think that's what's going on.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, welcome. Welcome to the 2013 NFL season.
Carl Banks
I don't think he'd be on the COVID I think there's plenty other options.
Don Hahn
But it's your quarterback. It's the face of your franchise. You know, you're. You're trying to save my Joe, go out there and save my job. At least Russell Wilson, I'm not a huge fan at this stage of his career, but you know, he's He's. He's done something. Even last year, I mean, I. Again, Flacco, that was a great story in Cleveland, Right. He did some decent things with the jets, but at this point, I mean, come on.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, devito's making a million bucks, so.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That's not a big deal.
Carl Banks
You know what, though, by the way, just by you saying that, God bless Tommy DeVito.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Carl Banks
Guy's got a million bucks in his pocket, right? Think about. Think about his story. Like, we can laugh and all that other stuff, right? Laugh about it all. You and I do. I kind of mock it a little bit because he became a novelty and they leaned into it and all that stuff. But how about he's turned it into, hey, I'm a millionaire playing in the NFL, Right? Okay, God bless him.
Don Hahn
Yeah, God bless him. But it's a million dollars in the grand scheme of things, right? So how much do you think they'd give? Will, what's the offer to Wilson.
Carl Banks
To be a starting quarterback? If you're the Giants, don't you have to give him 20 something?
Don Hahn
20? All right, say 25. And what would you give Flacco? 10.
Carl Banks
No. Yes.
Don Hahn
All right, so you would have three quarterbacks at $36 million.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, Flacco's worth 10 still, I guess.
Don Hahn
Why would. But even less.
Carl Banks
Well, backups.
Peter Rosenberg
I guess you're right. I guess.
Don Hahn
I was just paying Daniel Jones 40.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
I get three quarterbacks making less than that.
Carl Banks
By the way, did you see the talk in Minnesota about Daniel Jones potentially starting? I keep saying Minnesota, Indiana, Indianapolis. Yeah, I keep doing that. It's all Indianapolis. Right. Rams, Chargers. No.
Don Hahn
Well, didn't Richardson not play one game because he was tired?
Carl Banks
They just drafted him.
Don Hahn
I know, but so what? It doesn't make it less of a mistake.
Carl Banks
Wait, if you're the. Hang on a second. Am I crazy? We'll carry this over. Just think about it for a second. When we go to break, this is a guy that couldn't play for the Giants, and you're the Colts. And you're like, yeah, we'll take that.

Carl Banks
All right, Don, you've got to take.
Don Hahn
Well, first of all, Steichen came from Philly as the offensive coordinator, so he knows Daniel Jones didn't have to prepare, didn't have to game plan for him, but he saw him. And outside of that one playoff game, you did see some limited success. Daniel Jones did beat the Eagles in 23. That knowledge of having played against a guy in your division, Young had won a playoff game. I, I can see an offensive guy like him salivating at the opportunity to work with Jones because thinking there's something there. And that's what I, I think all coaches like reclamation projects and information. They probably have enough information to say, I think that there's something there. So I, I wouldn't be surprised that they're really excited about the possibility of working with him and tapping into something that another coach couldn't tap into because there are people that I know it seemed like Gettleman was the only person that loved Daniel Jones, but there were people that thought that there was something there. And this is not going to look good for the Giants if Daniel Jones finds it someplace else.
Carl Banks
That was my next point. Could you Imagine if then he goes there and they have success and they turn him into something. Saquon and Philly doing something and the Giants can't find a quarterback.
Don Hahn
Plus, you want to send the message to Richardson that, hey, we found somebody that can take the job away. Don't get comfortable here. Don't look at the guy's record and he was released by the Giants and all that and think that he's just going to back you up. Nothing like having a decent amount of competition. I listen, Daniel lost me, obviously, with the injuries and all that, but I can't tell you that I'd be floored if he became.
Carl Banks
Capable starter. Oh, Geno Smith.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay. I think him being a capable starter a possibility because he was with a putrid. I'm sorry, the last few years, a putrid franchise. So how can we really know what's possible if he ended up in the right spot? Now, I don't know if he's in the right spot right now.
Don Hahn
Don't know.
Peter Rosenberg
But I always thought he. Okay, what does Daniel Jones have? He has a big boy arm. We know that he can throw the football, athleticism. He can run when it's time to run. He does it quite well. He's tough as nails. The kid gets his face just slammed into the ground. I mean, I'm surprised he's alive after the Dallas game a couple of years ago. So he. There's a lot of things to like about Jones. He just never put it all together. But no one on this team has put it all together, so why not?
Carl Banks
But that, like, when I saw that news, that's what I thought. What like you were saying, Don? Because, Peter, I'm with you, like, on him, like, I've always liked him. I've interviewed him a couple of times, and he just comes off as a thoughtful guy. But also when you watch him, he's tough. He's quiet, but he's got a toughness to him.
Peter Rosenberg
But you want to know the ultimate proof as to why it could work out if we were to power rank them based on what they showed Sam Darnold, Geno Smith and Daniel Jones in their time in New York, I would power rank Jones at 1.
Carl Banks
He had more success because he had.
Peter Rosenberg
So why couldn't he do it if they both did it?
Carl Banks
Yeah, we'll see. The processing part of it, I think, has been the knock on him and the turnovers. But all I was saying was if there's a team out there that liked him enough to say, even this guy that we took, I Believe Richardson was a top 10 pick. Right. Like a guy we took and believed like is the future at our position. And we're going to get this guy. And right away it's like, oh, yeah, he's going to compete for the starting spot. And you're the Giants and you don't have a quarterback. You can't find one. And you're almost begging Aaron Rodgers and Russell Wilson to take the job. Like, that says a lot about situations, doesn't it?
Don Hahn
Fourth overall.
Carl Banks
Yeah, I figured he was a high pick. Yeah. Remember, he had that big pro day.
Peter Rosenberg
And. And by the way, so again, I said this the other day, but it bears repeating. I mean, this. This guy is 22 years old. I understand he had the bad moment this year when he quit during a game, and I understand that he was certainly down from where he was the year before. But the three of us have talked about this a lot, how quick we give up on quarterbacks.
Carl Banks
Yeah, he's so saying he's so athletically gifted. It's like, I don't think he's been developed enough yet. That's the problem. And no, everyone wants to accelerate instead of give him the time to actually develop. Some giants calls here. 800 now 193776, line five has Peter in Boston.
Adam Schefter
Peter, how are we doing, gentlemen? I just wanted to throw something out there. You know, the Giants took a big swing in Matthew Stafford when they tried to make a play for him. So that's telling you right now we're looking for top five. We're ready to spend top five money. So my thing is, like, we talk about how much of a disaster we are. There's two guys out there that are on worst, worse franchises than us. Why not pick up the phone and make a phone call to Jacksonville and make a phone call to Cincinnati and let them do the talking. What would it take? Because you're ready to. You're ready to go to 50 million. Because if not, at the end of the day, you're really putting a band aid. Whether it's Wilson Rogers or the number one pick, you're putting a band aid on something that needs reconstructive surgery.
Peter Rosenberg
What are you. What on earth. But hold on. What on earth would you give to get Cincinnati to come off of an iconic, potentially iconic franchise quarterback?
Adam Schefter
First of all, first of all, it's Cincinnati. We know they don't pay. Okay, you. You bring him to New York, paid him. If you could possibly get him New York, you give him the number one pick this year. You give him the number one pick next year. Okay, you get this. You get this trade over and done with in two years. And here's the other thing. You would have a franchise quarterback for the next 10 years.
Carl Banks
Peter, you don't have to sell us on getting Burrow. You got to sell us on why the hell Cincinnati, which is in enough trouble as it is. Like, even if they brought all their guys back, they got to sign Hendrickson. They've got to get their. Their wide receivers caught up. They just gave Burrow a ton of money.
Don Hahn
Now they don't. They don't pay their guys, but they paid him. Now, this is interesting. Lawrence is interesting because this is not the regime that gave him money. So. But with.
Carl Banks
The Giants gave him a big. A big check, too. I believe they gave him a big check. But not.
Don Hahn
Not this general manager. Not that. Not this regime.
Carl Banks
This owner, though.
Don Hahn
This owner, granted. But. But you know, if the new regime be like, hey, listen, I don't know. I'm not in love with this guy. If we can get a mint back for him. Get out from that contract hit yet, though, Don. But that's the thing is I don't know if the. Listen, Stafford's won a Super Bowl. We know how good he is. I think it's still very much up in the air. Exact good Trevor Lawrence is.
Carl Banks
Yeah. He was supposed to be generational, right?
Don Hahn
So if I'm gonna go give up like three first round picks for the next three years, I gotta know that I'm a guy that's gonna lead me to the promised land. I don't know that. I know Burrow can, and I certainly know Stafford can. Do I know that Trevor Lawrence can?
Carl Banks
No.
Peter Rosenberg
Guys, isn't it crazy when you look at the money that's out there right now that Joe Burrow's deal, He will not start making more than 30 million a year in his contract until 2028. The way his deal works out, it was. It was 25, 25, 27, 35, 48. But by the time we get to 29 and Joe Burrows owed 48 million, at that point, the Joe Burrow equivalent will be making 65.
Carl Banks
By the way, is. Didn't he come into the league older? Right? Like he's not. He's young.
Peter Rosenberg
He. Joe burrow is already 29 years old.
Carl Banks
Yeah, that's what I thought.
Peter Rosenberg
He's not a baby.
Carl Banks
Remember he was. Remember when they won. He won the championship at LSU. Like he was like 24 years old.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he had 27 when he started. It's crazy.
Carl Banks
Wife and kids in a mortgage. That's what he was doing in college. Let's take. We had a couple more Giants calls here, right? We did. Oh, yes. Eddie and Rockland, line one. Eddie.
Adam Schefter
Oh, what's up, fellas? How you doing?
Don Hahn
Good. How are you?
Adam Schefter
I'm going to throw a little curveball at the situation as the next Giant season ticket holder and Giant fan. I would like to see them take the best wide receiver and match him with neighbors and then get another wide receiver or tight end with the second. But I'm really eyeballing two quarterbacks, two young quarterbacks. Riley Leonard and I would go grab Malik Willis right now, and then I would use the double quarterback system when it's third down, his Malik Willis, and all of a sudden we got two quarterbacks that could whip the ball and move it on their feet.
Don Hahn
I'm good.
Peter Rosenberg
You're not moved by that?
Don Hahn
No. What are we doing? We're gonna reinvent the game.
Carl Banks
Wait, wait. My favorite part was. Bup, bup, bup.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Carl Banks
That's great. Eddie really entertained me because he made it sound so simple. Like, all we're doing here is just throwing together an omelet, you know, a couple eggs over here. We, you know, chop up some onions, put a little tomato in there, a little cheese, and we're good. Like, that's it. The way he put it together was. Oh, it's. It's simple. Wait, wait. Two quarterback system.
Don Hahn
They said Willis and. Because Willis is in Green Bay, Brian Leonard.
Carl Banks
Yeah, yeah. And. And Malik Willis. Right. He was backing up Jordan Love. Right. I guess he's still there in green.
Don Hahn
He's young.
Carl Banks
They gave up on him in. In Tennessee.
Don Hahn
Yes. But, hey, but the. Was my favorite Wildcat, you know, because that was kind of what they did. Remember Jaworski's end of his career? And then on the third and longs, they bring in, like, Randall Cunningham so he can maybe run and scramble for. Yeah, yeah. That's not a plan. That's a. That's a sideshow.
Carl Banks
Yeah. It was fun, though. But when you say bubba, bub, I know. To me, it sells it. You had me thinking for a minute.
Don Hahn
It did. I'm good. But it did like, it made it an interesting call. Still getting around to that fix on your car. You got this on ebay. You'll find millions of parts guaranteed to fit. Carl Banks
Catch the show on demand whenever you subscribe to us. Wherever you get your podcasts. So Don you know you're gonna get every now and then. If the Yankees struggle with their starting pitching, knowing Garrett Cole's injury, that'll have him out for the whole year. He did get the surgery they did do like some kind of special procedure that could accelerate his return. Still be 12 months, but not the 16 that some might take. But if things don't go well, it'll get louder and louder about Trevor Bauer. See, Trevor Bauer decided that he was going to make sure that his name is in the conversation by tweeting need a Cy Young starting pitcher for $0.
Don Hahn
It's can you just imagine what he's accused of doing? Yeah, that no one is taking a chance on him.
Carl Banks
Like literally no one.
Don Hahn
I mean, we've seen the worst of the worst get signed, get traded for, get picked up when you think you could win. And we know how desperate teams are for pitchers. This guy's won a Cy Young Award. He will sign for the league minimum and no one, no one will touch him. My theory is what he did was not technically illegal, but was so heinous that nobody wants him on their roster when it finally comes out.
Carl Banks
Yeah, don't want him around. Also, keep in mind I'm sure Garrett Cole has said, under no circumstances you bringing this guy in this place, right? No, they got a little history, right? Under no circumstances. Like, no way. Because that's been the thing. Because every fan we ever get, we always get these calls. Every now and then somebody calls in. What about Trevor Bauer? That always comes up. And there has been times where you entertain it because you wonder, like, you know, how desperate are you? Like, can this guy help? But we have seen he's pitched in Mexico, he's pitched in Japan, he's pitching Korea. It's not like he's lighting it up against that level.
Don Hahn
But that's not.
Carl Banks
Who knows?
Don Hahn
There's.
Carl Banks
But I'm saying, like, if he was just mowing people like, you understand that John Rocker would have still had a job, right? If he didn't fall off. Because it does it. Like, you'll overlook it if this guy can help you win. Unfortunately, that's. That's a weird thing in sports, but that's. It's not there.
Don Hahn
It. You can only listen. We've heard report. I'm not going to repeat them.
Carl Banks
No, please don't.
Don Hahn
But you know what I mean, We've all heard. And, and you know how desperate these teams are. They're not touching him.
Peter Rosenberg
If it hasn't happened by now, Right. With everything that was out there, if that was easily dismissible or there wasn't more fire to the smoke, why would someone have not. We see how desperate teams are.
Carl Banks
He literally said for zero dollars. Like, is he kind of suggesting. Because he'll say, he. He's like, I'll pitch for the minimum. Well, of course you will. You know, you can't pitch for free. That's illegal. Like, the union wouldn't allow it. But still, like, like, he's even reached a point of desperation. It's almost become now a sideshow. And I would almost beg him, like, please stop. Like, you gotta stop. No one is going to sign. You gotta let it go. But the Yankees have made that clear. So I just want to, you know, preempt. Because I saw the tweet. I want to preempt anybody that's going to call in and try to suggest it. We're going to get to April and May and there might be a couple of outings where it just looks bad. And you're like, you know, Trevor Bowers out there and just don't just.
Don Hahn
I would just ask people to use their brains.
Carl Banks
Well, that's hard to do.
Don Hahn
We know these general managers and owners don't care. They Don't. And yet they didn't. They won't touch them for the league minimum.
Carl Banks
Right? Cheap.
Don Hahn
So what does that tell you? All of a sudden, now they've all found God. Or even. Even the devil's like, damn.
Peter Rosenberg
Can'T do it.
Carl Banks
Even the devil grabbed the sheet and.
Peter Rosenberg
Went, wow, no, that's too much there.
Carl Banks
I don't even have to do. That's beyond.
Peter Rosenberg
Move on and we just move on.
Carl Banks
All right, finish up with the last call crew. Well, here's your guy, Peter. You always need it every day. Oh, yeah, Just a little bit of it, but you get it. RFM Richard from Manhattan. Richard.
Richard
Oh, hi, fellas. I'll see you guys tomorrow. I'll show up. Oh, yeah, I'll be there around 6.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, my God.
Richard
Fantastic, Don. Peter Allen. You know, we got four quarterbacks, super bowl winners still looking for jobs. Rogers, Wilson, Flacco, and isn't Nick Fol out there.
Carl Banks
I think he called it a career.
Peter Rosenberg
I think he may believe they retired.
Don Hahn
Carson Wentz is Super bowl to Jace.
Carl Banks
I guess you could say Carson Wentz.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, now he's.
Carl Banks
Yeah, yeah.
Richard
All right, Don. Great back and forth with Carl Banks. But you know what? I'll be honest. I. I take call side. And he was so eloquent, man. Can you imagine how this guy, he's a. Met him bots. Bought. Bought oats. But Scott Rather, Mike Golick, these guys that got their heads bursting in the Big Ten in college football, then in the NFL, and they come on New York radio and speak so eloquently, man, that guy, Carl Banks, he's a treasure to me. He's a modern day Bill White. You remember the old Yankee announcement? This guy is great. And Donny Patrick Kane yesterday, two goals and three assists, huh? Five points. Rangers can't use him though now, huh?
Don Hahn
Believe me, Ranger Twitter's active on that one.
Richard
You know what? You know what? What would the Rangers be without J.T. miller? I'll tell you right now. They'd be the New York Giants. Unwatchable. J.T. miller is the Bobby Mercer of the hockey world with the Yankees. Mercer left the Yankees and then came back. Alan, this is for you. Who was the better player? Wally Szczerbiak or Kelly Tripuka?
Don Hahn
Oh, wow. They got very different.
Carl Banks
I mean. I mean, Richard, they're very different players.
Richard
All right, just throw it out there. Okay?
Carl Banks
Was. Kelly was an all Star, right? I believe he was an all star player. Yeah, yeah, yeah. And Wally obviously was before the knee injury. He was a. He was one of the top he was a great score, great shooter, was an all star.
Richard
Really, who he thinks he was a big piece of, was a better college player. He was fantastic at.
Adam Schefter
Noted.
Richard
All right, Alan, I got this for you.
Carl Banks
I don't know what makes.
Richard
What makes the NCAA tournament, I think the greatest spectacle in the world. And I'm even. I'm really talking about the first week. There's 65 games approximately. I only remember two games last year. The first Thursday and the first Friday when Oakland, 14th seed, beat Kentucky to three seed. And the next day Yale, the 13 seed, beat Auburn, the fourth seed. So you had the two SEC teams going down like that. It brought me back to 1979. Alan, you might remember this when Penn and St. John's went down to Greensboro, North Carolina and knocked off the two number one and two seeds, Duke, Carolina, they called it Black Sunday down in Greensboro. And then Penn ended up beating St. John's and fellas, I'm going to leave you with this. Nobody's ever put this to you guys with all the sport, all your expert analysts coming on. All right, The Mets, Knicks and Jets, unquestionably, their three greatest players. Clyde, Joe and Tom, do you agree?
Don Hahn
Okay, sure.
Richard
All right. Those guys, I call it the Blackout Curse of 77. In New York since that blackout, we lost all three of those guys at around the same time. They all came up together. Joe came up in 65. Tom and that Clyde came up in 60. They all left around 77, 78. Okay. After the blackout, those three guys were gone. This is approximately 150 years now since sports years. 50 each sport, baseball, football and basketball. One hundred and fifty years. In those one hundred and fifty years, guess how many championships New York has won without those three guys?
Don Hahn
One.
Richard
One. One championship from the New York Mets in 86. That's amazing, an amazing fact.
Don Hahn
Fellas, always a pleasure.
Richard
See you tomorrow. Thank you.
Carl Banks
Thank you.
Don Hahn
I'll throw. Richard Gilbert retired in 77. How about that?
Carl Banks
Wow. That's two championships. Well, all this and more will be live tomorrow at the Irish exit at Moynihan Train Hall. We'll see you all tomorrow. Don, Hahn & Rosenberg Podcast – Episode Summary
Title: Hour 4: Giants QB Plans
Host(s): Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg
Release Date: March 13, 2025
In Hour 4: Giants QB Plans, the trio of Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg delve deep into the New York Giants' quarterback situation, exploring potential strategies, draft prospects, and veteran options. Alongside, they touch upon recent NFL moves, social media buzz, and offer their take on evolving trends in sports aesthetics.
The episode kicks off with a discussion about Justin Fields' recent signing with the New York Jets, stirring significant media attention. The hosts analyze the implications of Fields joining his former Ohio State teammate Garrett Wilson, leading to rampant speculation about a possible reunion with Chris Olave.
Alan Hahn highlights the social media frenzy sparked by Chris Olave's potential move:
"It's amazing how one little tweet where he's probably just kind of supporting his guys turns into Chris Olave wants to leave the Saints and join the Jets." (00:26)
Peter Rosenberg suggests that the hype might be overblown:
"I mean, by the way, it would make total sense that it's just him celebrating. All my boys are getting together. That's great." (02:36)
Don La Greca concurs, emphasizing the importance of doing thorough research before jumping to conclusions:
"But it just turns into a thing that... you think he wants to be part of this. They want to reunite. They want to bring the bat, get the band back together." (02:48)
Transitioning to college basketball, the hosts express strong opinions about the aesthetic changes in court designs, particularly criticizing the Big 12's in-season tournament courts.
Peter Rosenberg voices his disdain:
"It is the most repugnant and disgusting court I've ever seen. We have to stop." (03:00)
Don Hahn contrasts poorly designed courts with successful ones like Boise State's blue turf and LSU's tiger eye midfield:
"When you get it right, you get it right. Like LSU with the tiger eye at midfield and the way it kind of fans out. They nailed it." (04:34)
The discussion emphasizes the balance between creativity and functionality, advocating for designs that enhance the viewing experience without being distracting.
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to analyzing the New York Giants' quarterback dilemma. With Russell Wilson's uncertain future and Daniel Jones' development, the team faces critical decisions in the upcoming draft and potential trades.
Carl Banks initiates the conversation by recapping Russell Wilson's situation:
"Russell Wilson... he's now in New York meeting with the Giants tonight. That's the latest." (00:38)
Don Hahn expresses skepticism about general managers' transparency:
"I think the Giants have their sights set on Ward... Know that they can't get them at three. So it's either make a deal with Tennessee or have a veteran quarterback." (12:08)
The trio debates various quarterback options, including veteran Joe Flacco and prospects like Jackson Sanders and Daniel Jones. They explore the viability of drafting a new quarterback versus securing a seasoned player to stabilize the position.
Peter Rosenberg questions the practicality of trading for Chris Olave, reflecting on the Jets' reluctance to part with key players:
"It's fun, but I could tell you, I mean, Kellen Moore just got there. You think he wants to trade away Chris Olave? It's the last thing they want to do." (02:36)
The podcast features insights from Adam Schefter, who discusses the Giants' potential strategies in the upcoming draft. Schefter suggests that the Giants might be looking to trade up to secure a top-tier quarterback but faces challenges in executing such moves.
Adam Schefter states:
"The Giants could trade up to one. They'd go there in a heartbeat. The problem is they may not even have that option." (11:28)
Don Hahn and Carl Banks analyze the likelihood of the Giants obtaining their preferred quarterback, considering the dynamic nature of draft picks and team strategies. They also weigh the potential of relying on Jackson Sanders if available.
Listener interactions provide varied viewpoints on how the Giants should approach their quarterback situation. Callers like Richard from Manhattan and Eddie from Rockland offer unconventional suggestions, such as implementing a dual-quarterback system using Malik Willis.
Richard proposes:
