Don Hahn
This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Peter Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Don Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
Peter Rosenberg
So tomorrow at 3 we'll have the Don Han Rosenberg vehicle up until 6:30. Then the Mets Yankees will be on 8:80 while the Knicks game 6 will be on 10:50. That's 8 o' clock. So coverage will begin for that at 7. And then Monday is going to be another huge show. I mean what are we doing Monday guys? You know, we know there's not going to be a game one of the Eastern Conference final because of that, but we're going to be recapping Subway Series and he's a big show. Well, Monday's either going to be viewing.
Unknown Speaker 1
Or, or, or they want to get. Or they won Friday night.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1
And then there's the Yankees Mets.
Peter Rosenberg
So a ton of stuff going on.
Unknown Speaker 2
Man. I can I tell you what, bigly I'm trying to decide what's the scenario. So game seven would be. Game seven would be Monday. Yes. So really what we hope is we're spending a lot of time on the Subway Series. That's what we're hoping. Well, we're a little mixed gap. We have a little gap.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yeah. Because Wednesday's game one Tuesday.
Unknown Speaker 2
Right.
Unknown Speaker 1
Probably like an in between. And then Wednesday show is like hardcore game one at the Garden.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Because there's not going to be much to recap for a game that was played on Friday and it's. Exactly.
Unknown Speaker 1
But you still going to have reaction.
Peter Rosenberg
Well of course you'll have reaction, but mostly it's.
Unknown Speaker 1
I mean I will be, I will be effervescing on Monday if they.
Peter Rosenberg
Of course. Sure. Because you'll have a weekend.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yeah, finally.
Peter Rosenberg
But the open logically would be Mets, Mets, Yankees and then we would get. Because then there'll be a lot of conversation by Tuesday setting you up for. For game one on Wednesday. But a lot's going to be happening. I say it's like a good spin tonight. I know we all like to have things going on and I'M sure people will be watching. You know, the NHL playoffs. Got a couple of games. We've got the Nuggets, Thunder Nuts and Thunder. Big game, but nothing locally like it's really setting up. It's a nice take a breath because come Friday, man is going to be nonstop.
Unknown Speaker 1
But can I say I do feel tomorrow as we are programming the show on the air live with you.
Unknown Speaker 2
This is why you tune in.
Unknown Speaker 1
I do feel like tomorrow we do need to give two thirds of the show to Mets, Yankees.
Don Hahn
Half.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, like I think the call is ultimately 2/3.
Unknown Speaker 1
It's not insignificant this matchup.
Unknown Speaker 2
2/3.
Unknown Speaker 1
2/3 is Soto at the stadium. First time e judge these two teams. First place. Like so much going on here.
Unknown Speaker 2
I know, but here. But hold on. There's no game to review tonight. Either way. It's preview in both cases. Preview for the Knicks and it's preview for the baseball. But the baseball has only fun consequences. There's no serious business. The the tomorrow night is so serious for the New York Knicks.
Unknown Speaker 1
That's why I feel like we need the baseball to like kind of level us out a little bit.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, you're just trying to find a way to keep it together. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1
You're saying, yeah, like, I feel like baseball is like, you know, I just need to go out for a puff, just like mellow out and then that's baseball for you. And there's nothing like. Right. There's nothing that mellows you out more than baseball.
Unknown Speaker 2
I mean, except for playing golf or watch a drink. Yeah. Have yourself a smoke, whatever it is.
Unknown Speaker 1
Don, how do you feel? Are you as a baseball fan, as a Mets fan, are you looking forward to this or do you feel like I'm not. I don't want to put too much into it.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not as much as you would think because I do find it more irritating because I think people are going to go way over the top with the series and make it a bigger deal than it really actually is. Like, never do that because like, if Soto goes over five, then like Saturday's gonna be, oh, he's choking me. He goes 5 for 5. Mid fans will be like, oh, he's great. I just. It's may. I'm gonna enjoy it, have fun with it. But I am not going to come to any conclusions based off of this. But I think people want closure and they're going to declare a winner at the end of this three game series. And I'm like, dude, it's a 15 year contract. We're still in May, there's going to be so many twists and turns. Just sit back and have fun. Two first place teams playing each other. I don't need a lot of extra dating back to our conversation from a couple of weeks ago. The whole Judge versus Soto. To me it doesn't mean anything because Judge is the better player. But it's the beat right now.
Unknown Speaker 1
It's like it's chapter one. I guess it's still interesting. And by the way, this is a big Marco weekend. Big Marco.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, I've already thought about like when will be the opportunity to make that video because we're not going on. We're going to be celebrating my mom's birthday on Sunday. But Saturday is going to be a lot going on. He's, there's a, I'm going to hope to be able to just get him in front of the TV and hope that there's a moment where it's close.
Unknown Speaker 1
Game, big, big, big at bat.
Peter Rosenberg
But it should be, it should be a lot of fun. And the Knicks are going to be fun too. And God, if there's a game seven just like that whole weekend is just going to be, it's going to be crazy.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Eric in Brooklyn. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, Eric?
Caller Eric
Hey, guys. Hey. Hey, Peter Allen, Don. So just you an update. And also Peter, I have a little parenting tip if you'll indulge. But Don, I was the one who called a couple weeks ago. My dad was a big Sharks fan and he fell and he broke his hip and the Sharks kept him company while he dragged himself across that story.
Peter Rosenberg
Sure.
Caller Eric
Yeah. Yeah. So you told me to keep you updated. He turned 90 end of April and I called the Sharks organization and I said if you want to make a Sharks fan day, you would just send some swag there and the nurses. And so these guys, honestly, they might be horrible on ice, but they are one of the greatest organizations that. And so they sent a big box. My dad was just in shark swag, turning 90, still in the hospital. But I got to tell you, the Sharks deserve a round of applause next time they're in town, these guys do it right.
Unknown Speaker 1
Excellent.
Peter Rosenberg
Now there, I, I, I got close to that organization. Tom Holey, I think he's still there. He kind of bounced around. He was in Dallas for a while then he's from Cleveland, but he worked for the San Jose Sharks for a long time. When I did NHL Live, I did a show, NHL Live on the NHL Network. The Sharks were always very Good to us. Because of the time difference, the show was on from noon to 2. They'd always have us up in the room for the morning skates. So I got to know a lot of those players. Ryan Clow, Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski. And that organization was always class, and believe it or not, their fans were always class too. So I'm very happy to hear that. They did right by. By your dad, and hopefully he'll get out of the hospital soon. And that's. That's a great story, man.
Caller Eric
It's funny you mentioned Thornton's name. I asked my dad. I said, come up with your top 10 list of all time sharks. So he's still working on that right now. So. Hey, and then, Peter, you mentioned four months goes by like a blink of an eye. Just a tip. My. My daughter is 15 now, but when she was 11 months, I started taking a note on my phone every day of something she did that stood out, whether it was the hair coming in or the size or whatever. So I now have 15 years of daily notes.
Ebro Darden
Wow.
Caller Eric
To get to give to her.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that is awesome.
Caller Eric
So it's just. It's a small thing you can do. Do it on the subway, do it in between, and. And her heart swelled when she found out about it.
Peter Rosenberg
That's cool.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, that's awesome. And that is a dope idea.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I kept a journal. I haven't kept up with it because now I think they've got memories, but I'm hoping to give that to them when they get a little older, too. That's pretty cool. We're graced with the presence of a truly fantastic broadcaster, and that's Ebro. Of course, you can listen to Ebro in the morning on Hot Night at seven. How are you, sir? Welcome to the Don Han and Rosenberg vehicle.
Ebro Darden
I'm good. How do I sound on the air here? How do I sound?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, you sound terrific.
Ebro Darden
Okay. I just want to make sure my connection was good because I feel responsible. First, I want to say hi to Han. We've never met, but I'm a fan. Love what you do, Don. Don, you're a gentleman, and I appreciate the way you take care of Rosenberg and keep him in line. This discussion about. About my. About my niece, MJ is my first time calling the program, and I was compelled because Rosenberg's being a douche. He's being disrespectful. He's being a douche, and he can't help himself. He can't help himself because he's compelled to argue for Argument's sake. You all know that, which is why he's so entertaining. But in this scenario, when these, when these grown ass men are telling you that their heart wrenches and they feel the depths of pain and just life slipping away that you don't understand, you're such a douche that you'll argue with grown ass men who are just giving you all of their pain. What is your problem?
Unknown Speaker 2
When I get back to the corner. You can't back Petey in a corner. You know what I mean? The claws come out and I got to swipe him. But you heard that. You heard where I landed. I, I, I, no, you landed.
Ebro Darden
You landed. You're mincing words. You're being, you're just being ridiculous, man. You know, but you don't know. That's the answer. You understand. You understand, but you haven't lived it. You hear the words that are coming out of their mouth and you know the definition, but you don't know the feeling. That's what they're saying.
Unknown Speaker 2
Well, but you think about how much better you just said that, that you really are an eloquent broadcaster, because that is a good way of saying it, but, like, conceptually, I do understand time.
Peter Rosenberg
But no, I can't.
Ebro Darden
Talking about, yo, you cry now over things you, you don't understand the tears. You're going to cry at the first recital. You know. You know how I get angry at parents because they celebrate kindergarten graduations, and I'm like, your child hasn't done anything. They're not, it's not a graduation. This is. Yes, talk to me. When they graduate high school or college, everything else doesn't matter.
Unknown Speaker 2
Right.
Ebro Darden
The reason parents do that is because they're clinging to every moment of every accomplishment of every day. The last caller, he. You know how many notes he has?
Unknown Speaker 2
15 years worth.
Ebro Darden
Yeah, but do you know what that looks like on paper? Like, written down?
Unknown Speaker 2
It's a lot of notes.
Caller Kevin
It's, it's, it's like the great gas.
Unknown Speaker 1
I'll tell you, and I'll tell you this. I'll tell you. I'll tell you this. That daughter saw those notes and probably was like, wow, thanks, dad. She has no clue until she has her own kid how special those notes are, because they're about her. So she's probably like, okay, this is about me. This is interesting. But when she has her own kid, then that's gonna be like, my dad once did this. And that's incredible. You don't get it until you experience it for yourself. That's the crazy thing about this whole thing that Don and I were trying to tell you. And by the way, I'm offended because what you said, Peter, is that Ebro said, which literally, I think is the same thing Don said. But you said. Well, you put it so eloquently. Now I understand. And I'm like, damn, this guy just keeps slapping us in the face.
Ebro Darden
No, he's disrespectful.
Unknown Speaker 1
We just said that. Oh, well, now that Ebro said it. Oh, now it makes sense.
Ebro Darden
Oh, no, it's disrespectful. I mean, the way. There's other times I should have called, but this. I couldn't take it.
Unknown Speaker 1
No, no. If he was here with us, he would have gotten a fresh one on that.
Ebro Darden
And I also feel personally responsible when he looks this ridiculous.
Unknown Speaker 2
He did. He did put me on the air in the market. It's ultimately his fault.
Ebro Darden
I feel like. Listen. God, did I really ruin New York radio? Like, what happened?
Unknown Speaker 2
That's what they say.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, listen, anytime you feel compelled to treat Peter this way, you're invited anytime.
Ebro Darden
Hey, you guys have a phenomenal show weekend. I love you all.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you. That means a lot to me. You do as well. And having a true radio legend call in. But you just show the respect that he has for Ebro that he doesn't quite have for us. Oh, no, it's reverence, by the way. Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1
And you don't get hearing his voice. It's the same kind of thing, in a way. I raised this kid in radio.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1
I got him to this point. And now I put you out in the world. You're embarrassing me. That's a parent.
Unknown Speaker 2
Well, listen, in some ways, that is true. He did, you know, before Ebro was on the air at hot, he was my program director. Right. So, like, he is the one who actually made the phone call. So there are moments when I'm forced to have to listen to him. Now, there are other moments when I. When I fight back just the same. At this point, though, I'm sick and I've already went through too much over the last 20 minutes. I thought my argument made sense, but if it came across as disrespectful to elder fathers who've been through more. The difference between me and a bad person is I can know when I'm wrong. If everyone's telling me I was wrong, if everyone's saying, hey, you know, you came off this way, am I going to keep fighting and saying they're everyone's wrong? Must have came off that way. And damn it, I'm sorry. But maybe, just maybe, as an emotional person myself, and I'm very emotional, I can say without question, I've cried more inside the ESPN studios than any other broadcaster in the station. Don can verify that. I. Maybe I just don't always want to be reminded of it because it's already on my mind. Is. Is that a reasonable thing to say?
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks. Yes, it is, Peter.
Unknown Speaker 2
It's fair, right? Like, I think about it every day. So sometimes I'm like, okay, can I just enjoy today? I just want to enjoy it. That's all.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll tell you, we've had this conversation before as an older father, like, every time, like, a celebrity dies at, like, 80, I do the math to find out how old the kids will be if I die at 80. Like, that's just the life that.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, I do it constantly. That's all I do.
Peter Rosenberg
That's awful.
Unknown Speaker 2
All I'm doing is math.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 2
Every moment it's. So you hear about someone's age, and I go, all right, well, my age at that. Every TV show I watch. How old are they at that time? How old were their kids? What does that mean? That's all we do as an old dad. And it's tough.
Peter Rosenberg
It's pretty incredible stuff.
Unknown Speaker 1
Like, I'm aging today in the show.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's. And you got 15 more minutes.

Unknown Speaker 1
This is what.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Unknown Speaker 1
This is what he does.
Don Hahn
Look at the two of you dancing.
Unknown Speaker 1
That is. This is what he does. He used to do this to me when we had. When we were doing the night show. And if I talked about now, Cali was just born. You know, Gracie was Cali's age. So I had two little ones. Two, you know, two little girls in the house. And he would play this to me sometimes because, you know, it's at night, so, you know, they're already in bed by the time I get home, all that stuff. So he took one of them to a dance.
Unknown Speaker 2
That was one of them.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yeah, that's right. Well, I went. I took them both. It was the Father Daughter dance that I missed the show for one time. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And I miss. I'm not, I'm gonna try not to miss stuff. That's because that's the one thing.
Unknown Speaker 1
You better not miss it.
Peter Rosenberg
The one thing. You know, I lost my dad when he was 59 years old, but luckily I was. I was what, 28, 29. So I got a really good chunk of my life. But I'm approaching. I've already, I think, exceeded like more than half my life without him. Was that he was there as much as he could be. He was there. That's better than any present. That's better than anything.
Unknown Speaker 1
That's the thing I would tell. I would tell Peter and everybody else too. It's amazing how time is the one commodity that, like, you think about all the important things. Like, like now, Father's Day, when it comes up, your birthday and all that stuff, it's like, what do you want? What can I get for you?
Peter Rosenberg
Time now just do something together.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yeah. So that's, that's the gift.
Peter Rosenberg
I. So I reached out to K. Peter about whether there'll be a video for Soto and he says, I have not heard that. If he does, I will throw up in my mouth. The question is, he said that earlier on the show somebody tweeted out. So that's why I felt like it was okay for me to read it on the air.
Unknown Speaker 1
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
No. So that's that Peter, that's Michael K. Can't get any more Yankee than Michael K. Right. Throw up in his mouth. That's got to be the consensus in that room. So who you. So who you pandering to? A free agent from a few years from now who's going to remember, Never mind all the money you're going to offer me. Never mind the opportunities that New York is going to present. Never mind all the rings that we might win together. You didn't give Juan Soto a video, huh? I'm gonna go sign with the Pirates instead.
Unknown Speaker 2
It's an insane thought. Although I will say, speaking of the Pirates, they revealed today there the Mac Miller bobblehead game in July. I'm, I'm. This is. I've never cared about a bobblehead, but I will say that one looks friggin awesome.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I just happen to know Little birdie told me that you might be free in July, so I'm telling you, it's worth the trip.
Unknown Speaker 1
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
Go to the game to get the.
Unknown Speaker 1
Bobble sit at the stadium.
Peter Rosenberg
Gorgeous.
Unknown Speaker 2
Oh, well, you know, I love Pittsburgh already.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 2
So I've never, I love the city. I've wanted to take Natalie there. I've never been to the park the quite. I just don't think we're gonna be back. So during this, and it's funny you bring up the July because when you're talking about the time. I'm very excited about this July coming. A lot of time with my wife and daughter and we have a big trip planned overseas. The question is, will we be back to be able to go to it? But, but yeah, I, I, if, if I do it, I, I, I don't just want to order it. I want it to, like, go to the game. It looks awesome.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it, it, it's going to be.
Unknown Speaker 2
Underrated town for everybody out there. If you've never been to Pittsburgh for, for a reason. It is such a great city.
Peter Rosenberg
Not just sports, but culturally. Restaurant. There's a lot of. It's a, it's a really, really cool city to go. Very, very underrated. Is it my favorite city to go to in the NHL? No, but it's, it's very underrated. A lot of people that don't know might think, oh, why would I want to go to Pittsburgh?
Unknown Speaker 1
You'll have a good town.
Peter Rosenberg
It's a really good town. Let's see. Let's go to Kevin in Great Neck. You're on espn, New York. What's up, Kevin?
Unknown Speaker 1
Hey, guys. Good evening. How are you?
Peter Rosenberg
Good, baby, good.
Caller Kevin
I was actually at the game last night. I drove yesterday morning with six of my buddies there. We went there. We actually checked into a hotel. We planned to stay tonight, but after they lost, we said, let's just get up and get out of here. So we ended up getting back here.
Unknown Speaker 1
There are a lot of Nick fans there.
Unknown Speaker 2
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Unknown Speaker 1
Did you notice that? Was there a lot of Nick fans in the building?
Caller Kevin
A lot of Knicks fans in the building. And actually we went to the Encore Hotel. A lot of Knicks jerseys all over the place there. So. But we only had a few moments there kind of in the second quarter was kind of our chance to take over that game.
Unknown Speaker 1
I agree.
Caller Kevin
But I noticed two things in that second quarter. Tips. Tried to call a timeout before Deuce choked up that three, but it didn't get a time. Then we had a backcourt violation. I think he has to use what he did in Game four. He didn't use Campaign in the second half. I think he has to just use Deuce as the backup point guard and stagger the minutes and use Bridges with the second unit in the second quarter instead of using those Campaign minutes because he was trying to get Campaign out of the game. Campaign paid five minutes and he has three fouls. He didn't have a short leash on him and he left Bronson and died.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm running out of time. Thank you. Quickly, what are your response?
Unknown Speaker 1
I was just going to say they've got to play game four and game six.
Peter Rosenberg
