Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers, Don Han and Roseburg ESPN New York. Pick up until 7 o'clock. Then Dan Grass has got a big two hour show leading into meth that could have gone. That was a hell of a setup. The pregnant pause right on big. I was just doing mouth. But no, the way you said it though it was. I will tell you. You. It did hit. It did cross right. You and I look right. You can't fall forward. What are you trying to say now? I'm really interested in this. I know we got a bunch of islander calls about them getting a lottery, but. But Peter in Long island is going to translate the Korean call for us. Oh, yes, I'm really interested in this. Now. We had played it. I don't know if you can quickly play it again. Let's play it. Let's play it again. From the Brunson shot, right? This is the. Oh, we want to do Brunson. Which one you want to do? Hang in there, Peter. Peter, Peter. We're going to do. Let's do one at a time. We'll do the Brunson. Well, this is Bridges three. Yeah, the Bridges three is the one that actually has stuff. Wait, there's the Brunson. Okay, we're going to do the Brunson one from game six first. Okay. So. And then let us know what he said here. Ready? That part I get. I know that I can translate that. All right, Peter. Yeah, it was kind of hard to make out that one. But on the OG Anunoby call I could definitely tell you. All right, let's play OG let's try number two. All right, go ahead. What do you got? Okay, so he was saying hard takes it inside and you know, OG Anunoby they go wah, wah, wah. And then at the very end he says and one of nida, which means he got the and one too. You could make out the. And wonder. Well, because that is A big and one moment. The dunk and the foul. There we go. All right. Thanks, Peter. I, I am. Thanks for making us feel smarter. Yeah, I, I, I'm. It's a great call. Two things to blow me away that I just can't even wrap my mind around. Playing an instrument and speaking another language. Like, I, I can't. I'm with you. And the instrument thing, I think may be given time, but, like, to, to be able to speak and understand another language. I fluently, by the way. Fluent. These people that can just, like, jump from. That's what amazes me about when, like, again, covering hockey, when I first covered hockey and meeting players who are from Europe who learn English from watching sitcoms, literally. Like, Radek Martinek in his first year didn't speak a word of English. He followed Roman Hamerlick around. Check is a Czech Republic by year three, like, we were having full conversations. First year, he could not answer a question. Think about that. It's wild, but that's, it's phenomenal how I think I'm getting his name right. When I worked at Sportsphone 30 years ago, there was a guy, I believe his name was Connor Durista. Okay, all right. And he was training at Sports Phone, worked part time for a little bit and left for real quick. But he had been a actor in soap operas. And he said he could not believe anytime he'd go out in public, he'd only be recognized by foreign people. In New York, they'd all recognize it because that's how they learned English was by watching soap opera. And so they knew him like, so even, even as the big character that he was. That's great, because, yeah, they would just sit home and it was a great way to learn. I'm kicking myself because there's a Rosetta stone. Like, during the pandemic, I kept saying, you know, I got to order it, learn a language. I'm sitting home. There's no place to go because it's like 30 minutes a day, and then we're stuck at home for a year and a half. I probably could have been fluent in any number of languages. I just never did it. Instead, you were just, you were, you were watching Chico and the Man. You know how Don do? Chico Don be discouraged. Sam in Brooklyn. You're on espn, New York. Hi, Sam. All I need is come and stand. There you go. Yeah. Hey, listen, I usually, you know, we speak rageous speak, Right? But, but I got to talk about the angers here. I got. Let's talk about how Kathy Hochul sends a letter to the Islanders. All right. She sent a letter to Gary Bettman when it was announced that they were taking away the Star Game at ubs and they're going to have some sort of event promoting the Olympics. Correct. And she was not happy in the letter. They win the lottery, the draft lottery. I don't want to be a conspiracy theorist, but. But you're gonna. I have to know. Isn't this a Patrick Ewing moment? Are we having a frozen envelope? I gotta. I gotta be honest. It's all there. Right? The prospect they likely will take. Sam is from Long Island. Now, they may not be the first pick, but he was the first pick, and then he's a likely pick. Right. Moved around. So. So it does kind of make sense. But here's my problem with it, Sam, and thanks for the call. How do we know that the event that they're going to have promoted, the Olympics isn't going to be way better than the All Star Game? Like, why is Kathy Hochul upset? All right, we got an All Star Game. We know All Star Games, whatever. They're played out. We don't know exactly what the event's going to be. But what if it is? All the Olympians in the NHL are going to gather at UBS for, like, a big skills competition or something. Could. Is it potentially something that could be better and more fun than just a pedestrian All Star Game? It better be. Because an All Star Game that generates a ton of revenue because you have an All Star Saturday and then, of course, Sunday, where we have the game. So that's. That's. You know, you're talking about a Friday, Saturday, Sunday, of a lot of people converging on your area, right? And it's really good for, obviously for commerce and everything else in the area. You're getting a two day event, but it does check a lot of boxes. You really think that they really. That they just work this? You think that's how this went down? It's too obvious. But who is. Who's gonna do. It's almost like. It's almost like a guy grew up in Akron and somehow landed in Cleveland. How does that happen? What are the odds? Or how about this? A guy who was coached and trained by Tony Parker somehow landing in San Antonio. What are the odds of that? It does seem to happen. Isn't that amazing? It does check a lot. You never know. But I just don't know. Or how about this? Go ahead. Another one. A franchise that is basically on a shoestring budget about to die and an NFL owner comes in and saves the day. That franchise for the second time loses an All Star. Cuz that All Star doesn't want to be in that market anymore. Cuz he wants more money in a bigger market. And they somehow win a lottery with A generational talent. How does that happen, Don? It never happens. You know, this one does. Like I said, check a lot of boxes. And it's also in a year. Where's that one, by the way? Did you get the third one? No. Give it to me one more time. New Orleans. Oh, yeah. Zion. After Chris Paul left, Anthony Davis left. And by the way, and it goes to show that even when you do all that, it still didn't work, still may not do what you're hoping to do. Yes. The one that would make the most sense is if Dallas wins the lottery this year in the NBA so they can get flagged to make up for what was people believe was the NBA orchestrated trade of Luke at la. Right. That would be the. That would be the. Like that. All right, listen, trade Luca. I don't want to trade. No, no, no. Trade him to la. We need him in la. We don't want him in Dallas. But don't worry about it. Cooper flags coming out. We'll rig it so you get the first big. Yeah. Cooper flag. I don't know if you believe the NBA people, though. They were so sure that Doncic is worth it to get rid of that. That's not even that. You know where he's going. All right, the lottery's in May. I think later this month, I will predict that the Utah Jazz win the lottery. Yeah, he's. You can picture him in Utah somehow, some way, I know. And think about this, too. New owner. Like, there's a lot going on there. There's. There's. And Utah has been a nothing burger for how long? Nothing Burger, Nothing. This is a team that was perennially good. Just crazy. Just. I am not a conspiracy theorist. I' but if we want to follow those conspiracies and all that stuff, that's the fun. I'll play. If the Jazz win the lottery, then I will agree with all the conspiracy theories over Dallas winning it. I don't think Dallas can win it. No, they can't, can they? No. Right. Well, then if they did win it, then that would be a big problem. That would be amazing, actually. Yeah. Felicia, Mississippi, you're on ESP in New York. Hey, guys. How's it going? Good. How are you? Oh, good. I'm excited, of course, about the pic, but I know it's been a nick stay. So I'm happy for you guys, Enix fans, but I really want to say something real quick about what Spike said about the split the pole. It's funny he brought that up when I first moved to Memphis. My best friend that I. For. Well, my best friend was when I moved here. She taught me that, like superstition. And it stuck with me. And it's the only one I really adhere to. It drives my husband nuts. If we go anywhere and we split the pole, I'll walk back around it. And I never knew it as a northern thing. Like, I've never heard. I didn't hear that in New Jersey growing up, but it wasn't until I moved to Memphis that I knew that Felicia. Don made a face when Spike said that as if you'd never heard. I never heard that, Peter. You've heard it. I didn't heard it in New Jersey ever since I moved to Memphis. Don't split the poll. Where. Where in Jersey did you live? Butler. Okay. Yeah, that's. That's not that far from where I grew up in Hawthorne. I never heard it. You don't have telephone poles? We have telephone. I just never heard it. I. Walking under a ladder. Black cat, step on your crack. Step on the Christopher crack. Your mama's back. Yeah, but I never heard. Split the pole. No. Yeah. No. Never split the pole. Yeah, but. So it's funny. I'm not a conspiracy theorist here either, and I'm with Alan. It's just too obvious for this one to be a conspiracy, in my opinion. Like, I just think that finally, maybe the hockey gods are smiling on us, as Ken Morrow said. And I know we'll talk about it more in the actual draft occurs, but, like, I'm really looking at Michael Misa. I think that he would make such a good fit on Allers. I know he's only 18. Take a while, but I just think that over a defenseman is something we like. That's what the Islanders. Schaefer's the defenseman. Right. Schaefer's the defense that everybody likes. Yeah. Look, the best thing is to have his options. Yeah. And that's the first thing you want. Thank you, Felicia. And the other thing that I think makes it easier to do. Do if there. If you want to go the conspiracy theory route, is it's not like It's a Crosby McDavid draft. I don't think anybody is going to go that deep into investigating it. It is the perfect time to do it. Right. Like, is it who's going to. Who's going to cry foul? I guess San Jose. Well, San Jose got the first pick last year. They got celebrity. They're good. Right. Utah moved up. Detroit moved up, too. I mean, who. I. I don't. I don't really think when there's anybody given there's no bona fide there's no Connor McDavid for all we know is not getting this first pick might not be the best thing for the islanders because again there might not be that clear cut guy. How about this? Would you trade it? I think they've got multiple needs but I don't know if you're going to get that much for because again it's not one of those it's not a Crosby McDavid. Well but what if there's a guy that you know salary I would investigate everything over the oh you have to for sure course get a GM. That'd be nice. Well, that would be nice 1-800-919-377 out here, there's no one way of doing things, no unwritten rules and no shortage of adventure. Because out here the only requirement is having fun. So we will air our show in its entirety on 1050 and of course on the ESPN app. That's where you should be consuming the show anyway. And then when our Nick coverage begins at 6:00 with Pat O'Keefe, we will be exclusively on the ESPN app until the Met game ends back on I guess 880 at that point. So I just want you to be able to follow, but you don't have to worry about all this nonsense. If you just download the ESPN app, we're always going to be there. But for those that haven't done it yet, they're a little scared. Like Spike, who doesn't understand technology. He can make an award winning movie but can't figure out how to get the Spike Lee you're talking about. Yeah, Spike and St. Pete probably struggles in a similar fashion. Well, how else does he consume us? But other than, but he's down in Florida. Oh no, that is true. Is so, so that's where you do it. And then you don't have to worry about 880, 1050 and all that. So that's, that's how things are going to go down tomorrow as we prepare you for game two and all that. All right, let's go to Javier in Queens. You're on ESPN New York. How are you, Javier? Hey, what's going on, guys? Thanks for taking the call. I have, you know, it's talk about it Tuesday. I got something that's been bubbling in me since Friday. But before I get to that, and that's for Don. Peter, this is for you for that great game last night. And in honor of the Knicks and in honor of the Knicks being road warriors, last night's game was, oh, what a rush. You deserve it. Enjoy that. So listen, Don, I don't know if this has been discussed and I cannot believe that Richard had the nerve to call earlier and get on, but he called you a simple minded man on Friday when you were out. He, he had a fraud, a fraud question, a terrible question. He only slipped it in because he knew that if he asked you the question, you would have shut it down immediately. But the way that he worded it, he was like, oh, Peter's a smart enough man to be able to figure out what the answer to this question vaguely. No. I said to you, should we, I Said, should we tell Don? Oh, and you said that we. And I said, I don't know. I think it'll go badly. Yeah. It sounds like it took everything. It took everything in me not to look up his Yelp and Google reviews for his practice and tell everybody. So tell me, how did it needed. What needed to be said? I'll tell you what a wise man said. You know what he can do. That man could go scratch himself. I want to know exactly what he said before I finally handle whatever. Peter, what exactly did he say? What was the question that he thought was to Javier? Do you remember his question? What? He tried to like, connect three different racial groups with liking three different players from the Dodgers, the Giants and the Yankees and why they or may not switch teams. It was ridiculous. You would have shut it down immediately. Peter entertained it. But the juice of it was like, oh, you're. You were not, you know, you weren't brilliant enough. And immediately afterwards, Javi, calm down. You couldn't get an ice. Get an ice pack, smoke something, chill out a little bit. But I did say the second ended, I went, oh, that wasn't very good. So he called me a simple minded man for. Are you looking for it right now, Jacob? Can you guys find. You can't find in time. I have been a big. Richard. Richard advocate. I know today for a very long time. This could be. I don't think he said don's a simple man, but he did imply that I was more for some reason capable. But I think it was more because it was. He thought it was up my alley and I think he just worded it badly. That would be my. Alan. That's my attempt at defending Richard. Okay, well, Alan doesn't even remember it, so I really. How, how bad could it be? You know, Hang on. Yeah, I, I thought you would have remembered it. I, I might have remembered it, but those are the types of things that I can't possibly. You don't keep that in my brain. All the stuff you have going on on the weekend, like you don't remember the things Richard says. That's interesting. Unfortunately, simple mind. Well, I don't think he said the word simple minded, but it wasn't. It was implied. That's true. Cavs, Pacers series is getting serious, man. Like, they're all out there. This is unbelievable. Garland out, Mobley out. And Hunter out. Oh, yeah. For game two. Pacers all right there. And by the way, the Pacers are really good at home. They're not good on the road. They've already Got one win. It's pretty amazing. Let's close it out with Andrew Long Beach. I've gotten lucky. What's up, guys? Thanks for taking my call tonight. Oh, yes. So one of the things, I've just been really impressed with the Knicks this postseason so far is their. The improvement. Their three point defense has been phenomenal, and you saw that last night. Again, I disagree. 45 uncontested threes, Andrew. Like, so I get what you're looking at. You see the box score? You see how many threes they missed? 45 uncontested threes. They missed 32 of them. I'm sorry. Listen, I'm happy the Knicks are up one game to none. I don't want to take anything away, but, Allen, that was not three point defense last night. No. Even Jalen Brown said it looked like they wanted us to take them. Yeah, well, why not? I seen him missing at that point. He said they were. They wanted us to take those instead of go to the bathroom. All right, Dan Gross is coming up next, boys. We'll do this again tomorrow. Yes, of course. Okay, boys, you've been listening to Don Hahn and Rosenberg on ESPN New York and the ESPN New York app. Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, but I just want to know. It's good. Hear more of Don, Allen and Peter weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
