On 880 ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers. All right, at the 6:00 hour we go. Don Hahn and Rosenberg 880 ESPN, the ESPN New York app. 800-919-3776 is the number. As you know, the 6:00 hour, always a color heavy hour. So get in line right now. Only a couple lines open. So Knicks and the Rockets tonight here at the Garden. It'll be a great game because two physical teams that get after it. The Rockets have been playing really good basketball again, another top team in the west coming into the Garden. So another test for the Knicks, but some injury news here guys that I want to share with you before we get into the conversation. Tom Thibodeau just had his pregame meeting with the press on Ochi Anunoby, which when the injury happened Saturday night, everybody just held their breath because of the way it was non contact. He reached for the back of his leg. He had a sleeve on the calf to begin with, limped off the court, did not return. They called it a foot sprain. Tom Thibodeau said that the injury is a mild sprain. This is the quote. We'll see how he responds to treatment now. They play tomorrow in Toronto, which is where he loves to play. That's his former team. Asked if he'll play tomorrow, all Tom Sibado would say is that is premature to say now. That's way better than what a lot of people thought it would turn into from just the looks of the injury. But we still don't know the details. Thibod also said he believes that he had an mri, but he doesn't know for sure, which I don't know what to make of that.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Alan Hahn
Exactly. Last but not least, the Knicks have been waiting for Mitchell Robinson all season long to return to the lineup after he had off season foot surgery. He has been cleared for contact so he's closer to also returning to the lineup, which still is going to take some practices that he's got to get through, clearing for practice, contact and then move from there. But still, adding him, if he can get himself on the court would be a major plus for this team. They really, really need exactly what he brings. Size, defense, rebounding, all that stuff. So did they avoid something serious with Anunoby? We'll find out in the next couple of days. But right now all they're saying is that it's a mild sprain of his foot.
Don LaGreca
God, it just seems so weird for that to be a mild sprain. When you watched it live, it just looked, first of all you thought Achilles, all right, he's done for the year. That, that seemed to be ruled out right away. That would be just a home run. It would. What else could you call it? If he just misses a couple of games, mild sprain, he's okay. Not sure why the coach of the Knicks wouldn't know whether he had an MRI or not. Hopefully that's just the semantics of the timing of it. But listen, they would dodge a huge bullet because this is kind of his MO. It's a shame, but you get around that 50 game mark, something always seems to happen.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, man, I mean, I'm not saying OG's Mitchell Robinson here, but there is a thing that happens here too. Does seem.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not Mitchell, but it is recurring. It does seems a little fragile.
Alan Hahn
The thing with Anunoby, I think that everybody watches is that. And the guys in Toronto were telling us this when the Knicks traded for him is when he plays, he's really good.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, if he hurts.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, but if he's hurt, they're 52 and 20. When he plays well, there's like a.
Don LaGreca
760 winning percentage or something ridiculous like that.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's really remarkable. But what they told me in Toronto is that. But if he gets hurt, he's not a guy that rushes back like he's, you know, he'll make sure he's a hundred percent before he comes back. He's very, very particular with his body and if things aren't right, he doesn't like to play. So he played the first. Where are we at now? 48 games of the season, 49 games, whatever we're at. So he's played a lot of games already and I think he's mindful of the 65 game thing because I do think for him all defensive team is very important to him. But we'll see. Again, like you said, Don, when I saw that right away I was like, oh, no, like that looked like something that was pretty serious. And the fact that they just keep saying sprain and now it's mild sprain, that he's day to day. I was not expecting day to day. I was expecting how many weeks is this going to be? But, you know, still remains to be seen because with Anunoby, you know, you never know. He has to feel right before he wants to come back. So you got to keep an eye on that.
Don LaGreca
Now, I doubt he'd hop on a flight tonight and go to Toronto. So I would think he's out at least this one in Toronto, right?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, it's a back to back. They don't play till Saturday against the Celtics. Now, you'd love to get him back for that game, of course, but you also know again, like you want to get him back at some point, but if this is only a day to day situation. Yeah. Sit tomorrow, give yourself a full week and see if you feel better to play in that game against the Celtics at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you know, what you don't want to be talking about is this, this being a thing after the All Star break. Let's be honest, that's where we're at right now with the way things have happened for this team in turn in terms of the inopportune injury moments.
Alan Hahn
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's just hope that. How many games are there before the break period? Five.
Alan Hahn
I think it's. It's two next week and three this week, counting tonight. So you have five. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So, yeah, I mean, part of me just goes, let's just make sure we're not having this conversation after the All Star break, man.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, yeah. Well, also think about it. Trade deadlines Thursday. If you knew something was pretty serious with a player like that, you might be a little more aggressive at the trade deadline than you would if you felt like, okay, he, we avoided something serious and we're getting Mitchell Robinson back. Like, if you know those two things. I don't think the Knicks need to be aggressive at the trade deadline, but if you were worried about Robinson being available and then you lose an anobi, I think it would almost force your hand to do something. So, you know, this news today is interesting, but certainly something to watch and certainly something to monitor as the Knicks get closer. So like I said, it's still better news than a lot of people thought it would be. 800-93776. Guys, we have lots of calls to get to. It's always a good time to get to those while I get to some business downstairs.
Don LaGreca
Sounds good.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. You know what? Well, without any further ado, we've. We've had the man on hold. We love the man, we care for the man. Don, let's. You want to talk to our good, good friend, the Griftster?
Don LaGreca
Sure, why not?
Peter Rosenberg
Griffin. What's happening?
Caller
Griffin, how are you?
Don LaGreca
Good.
Caller
You know what? You know on my. My weekend warriors, Don McGraw, because he killed it this weekend in both pregame shows that he did. So that's my weekend warrior.
Don LaGreca
Well, thank you. I appreciate that. You're the only one that thought that, but I do appreciate it. Just to know that you were listening and appreciating it. I love that. Thanks.
Caller
I want to talk about. Alan said this earlier with the Jimmy Butler. I'm a Heat fan, so I know more like what's going on with Jimmy and stuff. He slowly wants to go to the Suns. He's trying to force his way to go to the Sun. The problem is we don't have the sun. Don't have. Don't have what we like. The main asset that they want to get rid of is probably Beal. We don't want the Bradley Beal contract. So I don't know how that is going to work, how he's going to get his wish to go to the Sun. I'm almost thinking there's a possibility that Jimmy Butler might still be with the Heat when the trade deadly comes on Tuesday, on Thursday, because who in the world would want to sign him to a contract extension at 35 and never knowing what. No, what he's going to act like.
Don LaGreca
Especially if it's going to be a place where he doesn't want to be or isn't ready to win. He wants to go to Phoenix. But listen, Riley's not going to just acquiesce to anything Butler wants. But at the same time, guys, you cannot cut off your nose to spite your face. I mean, if he's going to play great because he's still a really good player, but if he's going to show up late for practice and not be on the. Pat's not going to stand for that. But what do you do? You just don't. You just don't hand him to the place that he wants to go to and take less than market value. But at the same time, having him on the team and him not playing and keeping him suspended isn't going to help your team either. Because I think they could be a dangerous team if he plays, but not.
Caller
If he doesn't And I just don't know what you do, because when he's not away from the team, when he's away from the team, they're fine. But when he's on that court, he literally doesn't even try. And that's the problem. I don't want to play a guy not going to try.
Peter Rosenberg
And that doesn't help his value, by the way. But when the team is worse, when he's around Don, it's not what you're looking for.
Don LaGreca
But there has to be some sort of come to Jesus moment, right? I mean, that's one thing.
Peter Rosenberg
It's February.
Don LaGreca
You know, most players don't want to be playing this time anyway. But if he's not going to get traded, we get past the deadline, he doesn't go anywhere. How does it behoove him to continue to be a problem? You know what, you hate it there. But just, you know, put your head down, play the best you can, try to make a run and then see what can happen during the off season. How would it behoove him after the deadline when he's not dealt to still be a problem?
Peter Rosenberg
Let's. Let's go to test who's been on hold for a while in West Caldwell.
Caller
Hey, guys. How are you? So, Peter, half of my family is Commander fans. You know, it makes. It hurts my stomach. They're like so excited for you that number one, you join the girl. The girl club as a dad. And it's like they're like, oh my God, imagine his baby and all the cute Commander stuff. That the only time I think seeing the commanders for the smile because I'm pretty sure Mario's gonna look amazing in all his Commander.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, she's already. I know.
Caller
I'm just like. But then it is gonna be cute. But you gotta make sure you get her like a cute little jersey dress and a cute little jersey romper. I put my daughters in those. Those are like the cutest things. So even when we were losing and she had that on, I couldn't take it because it was. She just looks so cute. So you gotta make sure you get that. It's like these jersey.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you know, we had the website. It's like we had something blow up in our face though, which is that the day of the Eagles game, the outfit I put her in was a Commander's onesie that said it's sort of like Bart Simpson writing on the chalkboard. It was like it written on her thing. It said, I won't on game day. I won't nap on game day. And guess what? She would not nap on game day. So it. It ended up blowing up in our face. But anyways, Tessa, you had something on the Knicks today.
Caller
Oh, yeah. Because, you know, Ally, you know, he escaped. But you know, one thing about Allen is this. You know, he makes excuses for his team, jets and Nick. It's okay, though. He don't want to admit it. But all excuses he was making, talking about some old. They were this, they were that. No, look, that's LeBron's house when it comes to the Garden, like, he will not lose. Like you say, LeBron was taking IVs, double vitamin C. He was doing whatever it take to. He was not gonna lose that game. And it's like, that's what I'll be saying about LeBron. Like, he is, like, the greatest. Like, it doesn't matter. Y'all know how much I love LeBron. He is, like, the absolute greatest. Like, the show he put on. That's why, as much as I am a huge wrestling fan, I have to agree with you guys. He definitely was the ultimate warrior this weekend. Even though, by the way, you know, that was my favorite wrestler. Peter, the Ultimate Warrior, ult Warrior, and Undertaker 1A, 1B. But anyway, he definitely was the ultimate warrior this weekend. Don, I have to agree, because this man put on a show, a triple double at 40 years old, and for me, he is actually a little bit higher, higherly ranked than Tom Brady, because even though Tom was 44, still doing the thing, he's not doing all of that running around getting his body banged up and doing what LeBron is doing. LeBron is just amazing. And then I couldn't even all the way. Just, like, my bandwidth of my brain, like, went dead when they traded Luca. And I'm gonna be honest with you, I think Kyrie world is flat. So I think that. I think Kyrie did have something to do with that. I think Kyrie was putting whispers in, like, get AD. Get AD. All kind of to get LeBron back. Because I just don't see how, you know, they said, oh, they want to play with each other. When. When did guys. When did they ever play together? Like, how does he know him so well? Kyrie's up to something, but I'm really not happy about that trade because at the end of the day, Luca does have issues. And I think Luca, as much of an amazing, dynamic player he was. I really feel like Luca was thinking he's going to do whatever the heck he wanted to do. He wasn't listening all of that. Now, you're right. If he had to go to any. With any superstar, that can probably whip him into shape. I do feel it's like LeBron and I do feel like he's going to kind of be on like a revenge tour. So I can see as being competitive for something like deep playoff run this year or something. If Luka can get it together, what do you guys think?
Don LaGreca
Well, definitely for this year. Now, what happens with Luka when it becomes his team and LeBron leaves now, when is that going to be at the end of the year, at the end of next year? I don't know. But is he ready to take over that team? Because it was never his team in Dallas. Now it's going to be his team with the Lakers after LeBron leaves. But yeah, Kyrie had to have something to do with the Peter, maybe, maybe not demanding it, but they had to run it by him saying, you, who do you want to play with that.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the thing. That's what I'm saying. If Kyrie is going to be the guy who's left, meaning he's your superstar, two superstars. The one you're staying with is Kyrie Irving, who you believe can help take you to the promised land. You're going to not tell him we're making a major change. Your running mates no longer going to be the guy you went to the finals with last year. Were bringing in the oft injured guy from la. How do you come on? He. At some point they had to run that by him.
Don LaGreca
And I thought about this for a while, getting back to the Knicks. I thought about this on Saturday.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
Nationally televised game, Madison Square Garden, LeBron James, that's going to motivate him to play. I wonder, does Madison Square Garden become more of a detriment to the Knicks than help? Because there's something about that building. There's. All the buildings are gone now, right? The old Chicago Stadium's gone. Boston Gardens is gone. I mean, this is it. And this is the one place, it's the mecca, where you're not going to catch somebody on their off night. Especially you put the game on national television. Like, if you're any other team taking on the Lakers on a Tuesday, you know, you're not going to get a motivated LeBron. You get a motivated LeBron because it's national television and it's at the Garden. Like I keep hearing that, you know, whether it's Jordan's double nickel, you know, Kobe lighting them up about, you know, a decade ago, it Just seems like these teams come here completely motivated to play at Madison Square Garden. I don't know if there's another building.
Peter Rosenberg
Like that I know where. No matter who you are as a team, and we've seen this. There have been years when the Knicks aren't even good. It's not even worth getting up for this team. And yet people show up completely hyped to run through the Knicks run through a wall because they're at the Garden.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, because, like, listen, Soldier Field still exists. Lambeau. I guess you get hyped to play at lambeau. But it's 1 out of 17 if you can't get hyped up for 1 out. 17 on a Sunday or whatever, a.
Peter Rosenberg
Trip to New York. You know, if you. If you play in Phoenix or you play in Orlando or you play in, respectfully, Detroit. I mean, coming to New York is a fun. You're going to a good restaurant, you're gonna, you know, you're playing in front of big celebs. And then the feel of that building is really intense. Plus, it's sold out. No matter what is going on. That's a. It's a really good point. Let's go to Mr. Ray in Connecticut. What up, man?
Caller
Hey, what's going on, fellas? And, you know, just excited for the new era for you guys.
Don LaGreca
Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks, man.
Caller
You know, it's an honor creating the song. I don't know if you heard it yet, Pete, but they actually played it sometime a week and a half ago. I made a little submission for the theme song, so I hope you get a chance to check it out. Kind of did a, you know, just an homage to. To Don loving rock and you and Alan loving 90s era. So that was kind of my way of thinking. But, you know, again, I hope you get to listen to it and I hope you dig it. Maybe we can make something happen. For sure. Uh, just, uh, two quick points, uh, about the Luca trade. Was trying to think, definitely one of a kind. Never, never thought that that would happen. But I actually think that the closest thing that would have, and it didn't even happen, would have been back in the day before our time, Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams, if they would have been traded. But that never happened. So to me, that would have probably been the closest thing to what happened over the weekend. And then finally to LeBron. Even though I do think he is going to stay in la. If for some reason there's a fallout and he wants to leave and he thought about New York, I would Think that, you know, OG and Mitchell depending on their play and if they're healthy, maybe that with a few unprotected picks, maybe that could get him over there. What do you guys think?
Peter Rosenberg
Perhaps.
Caller
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And by the way, this is such a. Don, I've been thinking about and thank you for the call, man. I want. Hold on. Before anything else, can we, Can I hear the song? Anthony, is this worth hearing? Don, you heard this already?
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Caller

Peter Rosenberg
You know, I'm not mad at this.
Don LaGreca
No good, right?
Peter Rosenberg
You know what I like about it is first of all, it's an interesting sound. It's not just a straight up like 90s boom bap sound. It's kind of got its own mix, as he said. And I like that the things he said about us were so specific, like respectfully, to the other one. I really like that guy too. But he kind of uses a lot of the, like we're getting phone calls and all the hot sports topics. It's like, well, that's literally any sports talk radio show on planet Earth. You see what I'm saying, Don?
Don LaGreca
Yeah, I was very good.
Peter Rosenberg
I, I like that this one really tapped into our specifics. I, I might put that one towards the front of the pack.
Don LaGreca
No, I really like that. I, I don't like his, you know, Ted Williams for Joe DiMaggio. I can't put these players on that level. And can you now? I mean, listen, we're talking about two of the all time greatest ever played baseball. Even Adam Schefter last night tweeted an NFL equivalent, the Ravens trading Lamar Jackson to the Bengals for Joe Burrow. I can't even go there.
Peter Rosenberg
It's not, it's not quite there either.
Don LaGreca
It's not quite there either. Listen, it's big though. Two big names. But you know, Anthony Davis wasn't even the best player on his team.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, so how about this, Don? Exactly. I'll say this. If the trade had been. They're on the same team. But I'm just throwing out names, right. If the trade had been like Kyrie for Luka Doncic, then maybe I'm having more about that conversation, because historically, at this moment, Kyrie would be above Luca and Anthony Davis, like Kyrie, we all believe, is one of the literal most talented point guards to ever pick up a basketball. Like, I think you can start getting Kyrie irving in a DiMaggio Williams sort of conversation before you could Don Judic at this moment or Davis. So, like, they're both fantastic, though. It's. But it is a step back from that. But I also saw, you know, but it's above the Mookie Bets trade, You know, Bets and Verdugo or anything like that.
Don LaGreca
There's no equivalent. But. But again, you just had a top five where Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow were in your top five. Actually in your top three.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, exactly.
Don LaGreca
You would. There was no top five in the NBA that it would have Luka and Anthony Davis in the top five.
Peter Rosenberg
Luka would probably be there.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. But not Davis.
Peter Rosenberg
Davis would be outside of it. Right. So who could it have been for? Who could it have been for Luca, straight up. How about if it was Luca for Giannis?
Don LaGreca
Yeah, now you're talking.
Peter Rosenberg
Now we're taught. Now you're talking highest level imaginable. If it's Doncic for Antetokounmpo, that's something.
Don LaGreca
And then Giannis, you know, said something kind of uncomfortable about, you know, players wanting to go to certain levels, markets. Like, that's something the NBA doesn't want to hear, because now we're having that super team conversation again. And everybody wanted to play for the Lakers. Everybody wanted to play for the Knicks, although it never seems to happen for the Knicks. Right. Maybe. Maybe it'll change now that they seem to have all their ducks in a row. But, you know, but this. This was not an example of Luca wanting to get dealt to the Lakers. It was the Dallas wanting to trade them there. So. But yeah, that would be kind of the equivalent. So what would be the hockey equivalent, Anthony, you get. Would be, you know, you're talking about, like, top. It's not even. Because Luke will be in the top five. So if ranting.
Caller
If ranting. If ranting in was for Aho as opposed to what it was. Are we close.
Don LaGreca
Again?
Peter Rosenberg
Is it. I mean, as a complete outsider, Ranton's on that level.
Caller
Probably not top 15. No, no. I'm just going with the trades that.
Don LaGreca
I'm talking a top five player for a top 15 player.
Peter Rosenberg
Don Jua was a wa. Was a trade. No.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. But nobody went back to Montreal.
Alan Hahn
I think I got it.
Peter Rosenberg
That was close. Okay.
Don LaGreca
Was that significant? So this would be. I don't know what. Nathan McKinnon for Victor Headman.
Caller
Dry Seidel for Marner.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. So that's what we're talking about. Will be the baseball equivalent. This would be top five baseball player.
Peter Rosenberg
Would be right now.
Don LaGreca
Because you get like Mike Trout. For who?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's Trout. It's Trout.
Don LaGreca
Oh, yeah. No, that. That's. Somebody actually had that on Twitter. Like Trout for Soto.
Caller
Yeah, that's about right.
Peter Rosenberg
Although is Soto. So what? Sodo Soto's Doncic. I'm down for Soto being Doncic.
Don LaGreca
And Trout is a great player, but, you know. But how old is Trout now? He's got to be 30, right? Yeah, so that. That would be. That. That's a good one. But, you know, Joe DiMaggio and Ted Williams. Listen, you just wrote a good song, but come back to me on this. Just subscribe to us where everybody you get your podcast. Listen, this is one of my all time favorite beats. Oh, so good. But listen, we haven't got much time to talk about it. But Don, the equivalent of what happened last night at the Grammys where Kendrick gets a clean sweep of every rap category, basically that he was nominated for every song category he swept and the entire Grammys singing along to his song, dissing Drake, there's like no equivalent to how big. Like, I don't want to say it's like Buster Douglas knocking out Tyson because Kendrick Lamar was no Buster Douglas, certainly. You know what it's more like? It's more like Holyfield beating Tyson, which if you recall, Don, when Holyfield beat Tyson in the first one, obviously Holyfield was already seen as a great fighter and that had been a fight people had been waiting for, but it was still a distinctly huge upset. But it's like, it's like as if it just continued on for six months. That's the thing that makes it impossible to compare. Just keeps going.
Don LaGreca
Never mind the upset part, but just an entire industry siding with your enemy. It's the entire industry, everybody singing the song, dissing you.
Peter Rosenberg
It's. Well, and he, he made these mistakes. I mean, the Drake, whoever was advising Drake, Don, it's like they kept coming up with one awful idea after another. Like one person goes, hey, this is early on in the battle. Hey, hey, I understand you and Kendrick are getting after. Seems like you, you really want to battle him. Here's what you should do. You should try to taunt him and get him to respond. And here's the thing, he's a West coast artist. You should do AI and do an AI version of Tupac talking about him. That would be a great idea. And Drake's like, really? You think AI I should impersonate one of the most beloved, tragically struck down artists in history, who represents, even though he's not from la, represents that area. I think that's a good Idea. Oh, yeah, buddy. That's gonna play out great. They did that. The. It blew up terribly. Then they're like, you know what else you should do? Bring up Kendrick's personal life. Talk about his wife and his kids. I'm sure there's nothing he could say about you that'll be close to as offensive as that. And Kendrick, of course, then goes much further than that. And then lastly, when all else fails, you know what you should do? Sue him. I think that's really gonna come off well. That's gonna help your street cred. Sue him. And Don, last night during the awards, the head of his label, label Universal, which is Lucy and Grange, they showed him over and over again. It's like you were just saying. It's like everybody was in cahoots to be against him. Now because he's made so many enemies along the way, It's. I feel bad for him at this point. How bad. And l. It is.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. I've never seen anything like it before because, listen, I don't know enough about, you know, the two in the history and all that stuff. And I know some of the music, but, like, I just can't put myself in that situation where entire industry is rooting against me. An entire industry is celebrating the guy that I'm in a rivalry with. There isn't anybody that wants to take my side.
Peter Rosenberg
It does it. Not really. And by the way, Don, keep in mind, last night was the surprise everybody was waiting for next Sunday when Kendrick's super bowl halftime, that was supposed to be the moment. So Drake is currently on a tour in Australia, which, you know. Okay, good. At least I'll be gone. I'll be in front of big crowds. Everyone loves me. I could ignore it. I don't think he realized that the Grammys would be so bad. And a little tidbit that I didn't notice last night, because Kendrick did not mention Drake in any of the speeches, but he did wear a Canadian tuxedo. I did not. He wore denim from head to toe.
Don LaGreca
Yeah. I didn't even put it together because I was focused, obviously, at the LA hat on and obviously representing everything that happened in Los Angeles, which probably helped him out as well.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, of course. Because last night was a big celebration of la.
Don LaGreca
La Strong and all that. And he represents la, so that. That. That hurt for sure. But I didn't even. I didn't even think I saw the outfit. It wasn't. It wasn't the outfit that got the most attention. Oh, but it was an outfit.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I Also had one more big realization from last night. I. During Charlie XCX's performance, I realized that I am confirmed. I am not brat. Whatever it is to be brat. I'm not. I'm just. I'm too old.
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm not Brad. It's not for me. But I'll tell you what, you know, you would like of all like the big poppy artists that are out these days, I think you'd like. I think you dig Billie Eilish.
Don LaGreca
Well, what I've heard, I liked. I don't know enough of it.
Peter Rosenberg
She's super talented.
Don LaGreca
All right, real quick though. Listen, I'm a fan of cbs.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Don LaGreca
Don't get me wrong. I consume what's on cbs. But I can't think of a network ill suited more to air the Grammys than cbs. Cause like cbs, that's where they'll show a colorized episode of Lucy and put it in prime time on a Sunday. Like, I didn't think their audience really would understand what was going on in the Grammys. Not exactly the hippest of networks, am I wrong?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you mean. Wait, are you saying. Because the number one commercial is the Kathy Bates Matlock vehicle?
Don LaGreca
Right, that's what I'm saying. You look at the shows that are on CBS, they're all skewed to like 50 plus. And like I said, they'll have a colorized Dick Van Dyke show episode. I got a Sunday at 8:00. So I would think their audience is like, oh my God, what's going on there?
Peter Rosenberg
I know.
Don LaGreca
And there was somebody wearing a castle as a hat.
Peter Rosenberg
That was, by the way, what I. Jay, I like Jaden Smith and obviously I love the name. He. You're trying too hard, bro. I love Jaden.
Don LaGreca
That was trying way too hard.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on, you got to stop. And also, what. I'm not. I don't know Chapel Rome very well, but like, what. What was her gimmick last night with the whole cat in the hat situation? That. That's not. That's her thing all the time, Anthony.
Caller
I think that's just kind of what she does.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, but like that particular outfit.
Caller
No, I think she. I think she goes for the out.
Peter Rosenberg
There stuff and clearly so intentional.
Caller
And when she draws attention, she certainly leaves her impact.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's just. That wasn't for me either. I liked, I liked. I love Billie Eilish. I really enjoy Sabrina Carpenter. I think she makes good pop.
Don LaGreca
She's very talented.
Peter Rosenberg
But obviously I was thrilled that Beyonce had her big night and it would have been insane. You know, sometimes they talk about that like your big win is your lifetime achievement award. More so than it is the win for that project. The fact. I'm sorry, the fact that Taylor Swift on was. If she had won, it would have been her fifth album of the year. And Beyonce winning was her first album of the year. Like, that's just an insane situation. All right, back to the phones. I'm guessing we won't get any Chapel Roan calls, but you never know. We're up for anything on this program.
Don LaGreca
We do have a line open.
Peter Rosenberg
We do have one line open, so maybe that'll be it. Let's go to Jay, who has a comparison for the trade. Jay in Jersey. What's up?
Caller
Hey, what's up, guys? Congratulations on the show.
Peter Rosenberg
Love you guys.
Caller
First time caller on this with the new regime. Peter, congratulations on the baby. My oldest, oldest is a girl, so I know what it is. Good luck with everything. So I just, I'm a diehard Nets fan and you guys were making all.
Peter Rosenberg
The comparables going through the trades, and.
Caller
The one that I didn't hear was the Jason Kidd for Stefan Marbury trade between the Nets and the. The Suns back in the day. And I just wanted to know where you guys would rank that on the, you know, trade for superstar level. Thanks, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Jay, It's. It's not bad. I mean, like, at, like right now. Right now, I guess. I guess they weren't at that level yet. But where they turned. That. Where kid turned out to be. It's a fair. It's a fair. A fair comp. Well, but at the moment it was not this level.
Don LaGreca
There wasn't this level, but it's a really good comp. They were both terrific players. Marbury was 24 at the time. Kid, I think was. Might have been a little bit older. Kid was. Yeah, around the same age. No, no, he was 28. I'm sorry. So he's a little bit older now. Kid went to the hall of Fame. Marbury's not. Or at least not yet. I don't think stuff. I don't think Marbury is not hall of Fame. Nice player. But Davis is, right?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Don LaGreca
So that. But.
Peter Rosenberg
But it's the.
Don LaGreca
It's good. It's a good one. I remember it at the time being a pretty big deal. What was that? A1.
Peter Rosenberg
I had a beautiful. I had a. I had a beautiful. Stephon Marbury sons, Mitchell and Ness. Like you, like you dream about. Ah, gorgeous jersey, by the way. Jacob, can you find the drop where Freddy Keisha says diarrhea like you dream about. Because I just haven't. I haven't heard it in a long time ago. And it makes me. It makes me happy inside. Because it doesn't make sense.
Don LaGreca
You got to come up with another way of where it made you happy.
Peter Rosenberg
What do you mean? What did I say?
Don LaGreca
I just made you. You know, the diarrhea made you happy inside.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. I guess it's just an odd way.
Don LaGreca
To put it, but it is very.
Peter Rosenberg
Here's. But let's go back. It wasn't me. It was Freddie Kiki. Let's hear it. I went down to the first Ponderosa and I ate garlic bread until my stomach exploded. Garlic bread Fan Freddy and I had diarrhea. That you dream about.
Don LaGreca
Doesn't make sense. I had a moment. It was sometime last week. It was breakfast with the kids, just on my me time with them. Let Nancy sleep in. I'm fixing them breakfast, having breakfast with him. And then I started laughing out loud because I thought about Rocifer and then I said it to them and they started laughing.
Peter Rosenberg
They liked Rosie for the game.
Don LaGreca
They did.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, wow.
Don LaGreca
And. But I just. I just. I. I thought about it and I just started laughing. I think it's. It's. It's one of the funniest things you've ever said on the show that you didn't know you're going to say it a millisecond before you did.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, that. That's when the greatness actually happens. Phone lines are completely jammed up. And we're to talk to everybody in our last segment next with the last call crew, because you know how we do it. But before we even get to any of that, I got to talk to you guys about a little something called FanDuel Sportsbook. You know what I mean? All right, I'm back and game time is brought to you by Tulla Mardu Irish Whiskey because when it's game time, it's Tully time here at Madison Square Garden. Just raced back up here to the 10th floor after doing a little bit of pregame stuff and some very interesting stuff going on in the pregame, by the way, for this matchup between the Knicks and the Rockets. That's tonight coverage immediately following us right here on 880 ESPN. Anyways, game time bars by Til Mordu the original triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Irish Whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Dew or try the new Tullamore Dew honey during tonight's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore due responsibly. So again, Don, like Anna Nobe is probably going to miss a little bit of time, but it does feel like they avoided a serious injury with him. And then Mitchell Robinson, boy, he is jacked up right now, all excited that he got cleared for contact, which is really one step away from being cleared to play. He still has be cleared to play contact in practice and five on five. And once that happens, they're going to get him on the court. So maybe not before All Star break because there's only five games left, but I could see him with all that time to get conditioning up and everything else, I could see him being ready out coming out of the All Star break, which would be like a deadline addition for this team if they can get him back.
Don LaGreca
And how many games after the All Star break will they have left?
Alan Hahn
Sly? It's, it's around, I mean it's got to be like around 30. It's gotta be something like 30 games, not many. So it's, it's, it's like ramp up, right? That kind of thing. But adding a piece like that it's every. Like when everybody asks you, what do the Knicks need? I always say that they need a defensive minded seven footer. They have one on the roster. But the concern was about his ability to be healthy and play. But that concern isn't there anymore because if he's close to being cleared, that's a big deal. So.
Don LaGreca
No, that is. I know it's. That's that old lame. It's like a trade. But that's exactly what they'd be looking. If you found out that he was going to be out for the year, you would be looking in the trade market for him. So that's why it makes perfect sense that you can use that analogy, because that's what it is.
Alan Hahn
I. Yeah, a huge one at that too. You want to finish up with some calls here, Donnie?
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, come on, let's do it.
Alan Hahn
Oh, Peter's back with us too. That's great. We're all back together again like one. Got a happy family, Big old family. Let's see. Let's go to. Let's go out to LA and talk to Jonathan. What's up, Jonathan?
Caller
Hi, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
Whoa.
Caller
That was my 10 year old. He always, he always looks at me and you know, tell you like, well, I want to do it now. Like, well, that's cool.
Peter Rosenberg
Is it a good one?
Alan Hahn
Now we have a new drop.
Caller
Fellas. The. The Luca trade, it caught everyone off guard. Hey, man. But I'm a, I'm a die hard Laker fan and like a week ago I had no future future. I'm like, LeBron is 40 years old now. I'm looking towards the future. We got a 25 year old year old, you know, great player. But I did my research and you should know, Alan, I mean the, the general manager of, of the Dallas Mavericks was a really close friend of Kobe or business partners. And also Rob Pelinka was always around them. I don't know, man. It's.
Alan Hahn
My team told that story earlier in the show, right?
Caller
Oh, oh, yeah. I'm sorry about that. Well, yeah, I started listening like, no worries, second hour and it's all good. It sounds weird. And one more thing for Peter. Yo, don't you think that I really thought John Cena was gonna win, man? But who do you. Who do you like if you could, since you had Jey uso winning? Do you know, probably, you know, a few predictions on who John Cena could fight? Because I'm actually going to Vegas with my son. Hopefully we see you over there for Wrestlemania. But do you have any Predictions on who John Cena might find in his last match. Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
Thanks. Well, it's. It won't be his last match at Mania. Just to remind you. He's gonna, he's gonna go through the year to the end of the year. But the, the Mania match, I, I now firmly believe we're gonna get John Cena and Cody Rhodes at WrestleMania, which will be just an awesome marquee event. That's what, that's what you dream scream about it. Mania is matches like that. And so I'm. That's what I believe the path we're on and I think it'll be pretty dope.
Alan Hahn
Joey in Staten Island. What's up, Joey?
Caller
Hey, thanks for taking the call. My question mainly for you is you're a big basketball guy, but you know, whoever got an answer. But I'm a Thunder fan. Do you think we should trade maybe Chet and a couple picks for kd? Because this is win now right now. I. And we could do it now.
Alan Hahn
Why would the Sun's trade kd? That's, that's the guy they made that big move for so they could try to go for it.
Caller
Now they put him up for availability. That's what I just read.
Alan Hahn
Who, who said, who said that?
Caller
I don't know. Someone sent it to me maybe.
Alan Hahn
Either you got to tell me who's reporting it because this is the time of year where we get all kinds of like silly reports.
Caller
I don't have his top of my head, but what do you think about LeBron coming to OKC? We have the pick.
Alan Hahn
You're trying now, now, now, Joey, you're. You're a Thunder fan. So you know that goes against everything Sam Presti believes in, you know, completely against everything he's about for the James Harden deal.
Caller
He owes us a championship. And you know, I think this is the move to make. We have all.
Alan Hahn
They are not in that business. I think the Thunder are not in the business of star chasing. They don't do that. What they're doing now if you had like a, an expire, like a Kawhi situation like the Raptors had where you knew we just rent them for a year and, and we know we don't have to pay them because the Thunder, they don't have that kind of money.
Caller
Isn't that LeBron?
Peter Rosenberg
How does that.
Alan Hahn
But, but is that again, is that what they're about though, Joe? Like that's not what they're about?
Caller
I don't know.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. And I'm telling you, that's Sam Pricey. Is not like that. And so I just, I don't see it happen. Look, I, I love the fact that you want it because you want it bad. And I'm telling you, Joey, everybody's chasing your team right now. Everybody. They are the team everybody's chasing. I promise you. So, Tommy in Connecticut. What's up, Tommy? What's up, boys? Allen, Unh.
Peter Rosenberg
Going to defend home ice up in.
Caller
Durham against BC on Friday.
Alan Hahn
It's painful, man. Like, it's just, it's been a rough go right now like that. The bu. The bu. It's been tough.
Peter Rosenberg
But yeah, just obviously J.T.
Don LaGreca
Miller and Jonathan Quick, you know, big.
Peter Rosenberg
Stories for the weekend.
Don LaGreca
Can we just talk about Will Cooley and the style of hockey that he plays?
Caller
Absolutely.
Don LaGreca
Sending Alex Petrangelo over band box. You got to see the hit. You got to see the hit on Frangelo.
Alan Hahn
It's one of something.
Don LaGreca
Peter, go check it out. We've seen.
Peter Rosenberg
What name am I searching for on Twitter?
Don LaGreca
Just a coolie. Petrangelo Just Cooley hit Vegas or something like that. He just levels this dude. When I'm doing the pre and post.
Alan Hahn
And it's a great hit.
Don LaGreca
When I'm doing the pre and post, like, usually in the intermission, what I try to do is kind of go deeper into the numbers and I'll give, like, hits and, and I can tell you I would. Nine times out of 10, he's leader in hits, like through two periods of play. Rangers have 14 hits and he leads the team. Four of them.
Peter Rosenberg
God.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, he just, yeah, see, you saw it levels him. I'd like him to score. He's a little bit offensively. I'd like to see him score a little bit more, but damn, that is amazing.
Alan Hahn
I'm telling you guys, like, we can talk about the NHL and going towards offense and small defensemen who move the puck are very essential. It's a big part of the game and all that stuff. And there's less hitting now than ever before because when you throw a hit, you take yourself out of the play and nobody wants to do that. The game's about speed, blah, blah, blah. The NHL needs that physicality in its game. It wants it, it needs it, it craves it. And plays like that. That's illegal. Clean, perfect open ice hit. When that is what sells tickets too.
Peter Rosenberg
It's the, it's the best of all worlds too, because Petrangelo landed in a way where he was fine and popped back up. He just took a huge hit. God, that was nasty.
Alan Hahn
I, I, that was. That was.
Peter Rosenberg
I'll tell you what, Anthony. That might have been as bad as I show speed getting speared by Braun Breaker over the weekend.
Alan Hahn
This is what we're doing. This is what we're doing.
Don LaGreca
Listen to what they did, Alan.
Peter Rosenberg
Look it up. There's nothing that's fake about it. There's nothing that's fake about it.
Alan Hahn
No, but see, you know what the problem is? What you're gonna do is you're gonna turn me against it. You're gonna turn me heel when it comes to wrestling because of the way.
Peter Rosenberg
You'Re doing this now.
Alan Hahn
You're doing this is you're doing this on purpose.
Peter Rosenberg
All you have to do is lay.
Alan Hahn
Out warrior win and just go for a walk tonight. Take bear out and feel good about your victory. Okay?
Peter Rosenberg
You know you hate wrestling. You hate.
Alan Hahn
You know it's bogus. Own it.
Don LaGreca
Coming for you, everybody.
Alan Hahn
Nicks and the Rockets next. I'll see you all tomorrow. Thanks for listening to the Don, Han and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, man. I just want to know it's good. Hear more of Don, Allen and Peter.

Podcast Summary: Don, Hahn & Rosenberg – Hour 4: Knicks Injury Update
Release Date: February 4, 2025
In the fourth hour of the "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg" podcast, hosted by ESPN New York's Don LaGreca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg, the trio delves deep into the latest developments surrounding the New York Knicks, focusing primarily on injury updates and their implications for the team's upcoming games. The discussion is enriched with insights, expert opinions, and engaging listener interactions, providing a comprehensive overview for fans keen on understanding the Knicks' current standing and future prospects.
Ochi Anunoby's Injury Status
The episode kicks off with a detailed update on Ochi Anunoby's recent injury. Alan Hahn provides a thorough breakdown of the situation:
Injury Details: Anunoby sustained a mild foot sprain during Saturday night's game, exiting non-contact after reaching for the back of his leg. Initial fears speculated a more severe injury, possibly an Achilles tear.
"Tom Thibodeau... called it a foot sprain... 'We'll see how he responds to treatment now'." [01:30]
Coach's Statement: Tom Thibodeau emphasized the mild nature of the sprain, indicating that the situation is better than initially feared.
"They just keep saying sprain and now it's mild sprain, that he's day to day." – Don LaGreca [03:01]
Mitchell Robinson's Progress
Transitioning to Mitchell Robinson, Alan Hahn shares promising news regarding his return:
Clearance for Contact: Robinson has been cleared for contact, marking a significant step towards his return post-offseason foot surgery.
"But still, adding him, if he can get himself on the court would be a major plus for this team." – Alan Hahn [02:16]
Return Timeline: While Robinson hasn't fully returned yet, his progress suggests he might rejoin the lineup shortly after the All-Star break, providing the Knicks with much-needed defensive prowess.
"He's very, very particular with his body and if things aren't right, he doesn't like to play." – Alan Hahn [04:09]
Strategic Implications of Injuries
The discussion moves towards the broader implications of these injuries on the Knicks' strategy, especially concerning the trade deadline:
Trade Considerations: Hahn speculates that if Anunoby were confirmed to miss the remainder of the season, the Knicks might seek to be more aggressive in the trade market.
"Having him on the team and him not playing and keeping him suspended isn't going to help your team either." – Alan Hahn [09:38]
Impact on Trade Decisions: The health of key players like Anunoby and Robinson influences the Knicks' approach to trades, balancing immediate performance with long-term team stability.
"If you knew something was pretty serious with a player like that, you might be a little more aggressive at the trade deadline." – Alan Hahn [06:17]
Jimmy Butler's Potential Trade to the Suns
A significant portion of the episode is dedicated to listener interactions, where fans share their insights and concerns:
Caller's Perspective: One listener, a Miami Heat fan, expresses concerns about Jimmy Butler's desire to move to the Phoenix Suns and the challenges associated with such a trade.
"He slowly wants to go to the Suns... I'm almost thinking there's a possibility that Jimmy Butler might still be with the Heat..." – Caller [07:05]
Host's Analysis: Don LaGreca and Peter Rosenberg debate the viability of Butler's transfer, discussing the Suns' willingness to trade assets like Bradley Beal and Butler's impact on team dynamics.
"But what do you do? You just don't hand him to the place that he wants to go..." – Don LaGreca [09:14]
Comparisons to Historical Trades
Another listener brings up the trade between Jason Kidd and Stefan Marbury between the Nets and Suns, prompting the hosts to compare its significance to the current trade scenario involving Luka Doncic.
"The one that I didn't hear was the Jason Kidd for Stefan Marbury trade between the Nets and the Suns back in the day." – Caller [32:38]
"It's a step back from that, but I also saw..." – Peter Rosenberg [20:41]
Listener-Submitted Song: "DHR Show"
Peter Rosenberg introduces a listener-submitted theme song for the podcast, showcasing community engagement and adding a personalized touch to the show.
"Here's the song... 'ESPN Radio, D HR Show...'" – Caller [17:53]
Grammys Highlight: LeBron vs. Kendrick Lamar
The hosts transition to discussing last night's Grammys, drawing parallels between musical rivalries and sports dynamics:
Kendrick Lamar's Dominance: They reflect on Kendrick's overwhelming success at the Grammys, comparing it to iconic sports upsets.
"It's like Holyfield beating Tyson in the first one, obviously..." – Peter Rosenberg [26:38]
Industry Backlash: The conversation touches on the industry's apparent bias against Drake in favor of Kendrick, exploring the broader implications for artist relations.
"The entire industry is celebrating the guy that I'm in a rivalry with." – Don LaGreca [28:29]
As the episode nears its conclusion, the hosts shift focus back to the Knicks' upcoming game against the Rockets at Madison Square Garden:
Final Injury Assessments: They reiterate the importance of Anunoby's mild sprain and Robinson's potential return, emphasizing the impact on the game's outcome.
"If he's close to being cleared, that's a big deal." – Alan Hahn [38:34]
Madison Square Garden as a Venue: Don LaGreca muses on the Garden's unique atmosphere, suggesting it can be both an advantage and a pressure point for visiting teams.
"Madison Square Garden becomes more of a detriment to the Knicks than help?" – Don LaGreca [14:14]
The episode wraps up with final thoughts on team health, strategic moves leading up to the trade deadline, and acknowledgments of listener contributions. The hosts reiterate the significance of staying updated on player statuses and how these affect the Knicks' performance and potential acquisitions.
Key Takeaways:
Ochi Anunoby's Injury: While initially alarming, Anunoby's injury is confirmed as a mild foot sprain, allowing him to be day-to-day and potentially return soon.
Mitchell Robinson's Return: Robinson is nearing his return to the lineup, which could bolster the Knicks' defense significantly once fully cleared.
Trade Deadline Dynamics: The Knicks' approach to the upcoming trade deadline is heavily influenced by the health and availability of key players like Anunoby and Robinson.
Listener Engagement: Insights from listeners provide a richer understanding of ongoing team dynamics and potential trade scenarios, highlighting the community's investment in the Knicks' success.
Madison Square Garden Advantage: The iconic venue continues to play a pivotal role in game outcomes, serving as both a fortress and a high-pressure environment for visiting teams.
This episode offers Knicks fans a thorough update on player statuses, strategic considerations, and the broader implications for the team's trajectory as the season progresses toward the trade deadline.
