On 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers. Big, big thank you to the entire team. By that, I mean, Don legreca, Alan Hahn, Anthony Pusick, Jacob Perry, John Winthrop. I'll even throw in Mike Brown. Sure, why not? Big thank you to the whole team, though. The last week now has been a weird week. The last few weeks have been sort of a weird few weeks. And so I've just, I've been dealing with lots of stuff. There's been lots going on. My voice, completely gone. As you can see. It's mostly back. I'm probably, you know, 85%, whatever it is, but. And then my wife is traveling. So I was. Don. Yesterday was my first ever day with my daughter ever.
Peter Rosenberg
Just you two?
Don La Greca
Yes. I have never in life. And it's funny, you know, Like, I was trying to figure out how I could do the show and also take care of the baby. And in the end, you know, our fine leader, John Winthrop was like, hey, dude, there's a reason in this era, people have these paternity days if your wife is gone and your child is in need of care. Because our babysitter was sick. Of course, yesterday was the first day down. She's been sick since we met her. So he was like, why don't you just do what you got to do? And when I kind of pushed away the guilt of like, of missing you guys because I just, you know, I've been dealing with this voice thing. It was like, I got to tell you, it was like an amazing feeling. I was like, oh, my God, this is like a holiday. This is my first day ever with my daughter in my entire life. And I went out strolling around with Bear, who's 14, who I always dreamed one day I'd get to have a baby and Bear would still be around. And the three of us went out together and the baby has survived. She made it 28 hours under just my care. I Feel pretty good about it, Don.
Peter Rosenberg
Pro.
Don La Greca
Now look at me at two months. I'm pretty impressed with me. Although I'll be honest, we don't get enough. Men don't get enough credit. It's not that hard. I mean, if you're an active dad who's involved in every day. Like, obviously, I'm talking about infant stuff, guys. I don't know the older stuff, so. And Don, your infant time wasn't that long ago, so you know what I'm talking about. If you're. As long as you're involved in the feeding and the putting to sleep and the burping and the changing and all the bathing. Listen, you figure it out. Make sure she got to eat, got a clean diaper, be able to do a bath, don't drop the kid. You should be all right. And we did it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, Just keep it simple, but your instincts kick in. You know what's right and what's wrong and what you can and can't do.
Don La Greca
Yeah, we went and rolled dice for a little while.
Peter Rosenberg
You know, I felt way more intimidated with other people's kids. Like, when I would watch Abby, my niece, it was a lot more intimidating because, you know, you want to make sure you do everything right because it's not your child and you don't know the child as well as you know your own. But this is.
Don La Greca
Now, did you get more comfortable by the time, like, Declan was around? Because he was around you guys so much.
Peter Rosenberg
Because then just got. And I got more comfortable with Abby over time. But like those first few times, I remember because I was working, I was working mornings, so I would get off at 1 o'clock and I would help out David and I'd get like 2 o'clock and he'd get home from work like 5. So there'd be like a three hour time I'd be there. And I was like, boy, I just hope I get this right. I didn't have a ton of experience with kids, and it's not my kid. So I don't know every. Like you're gonna get to know. Like, every, every cry is different. There's a hungry cry, there's a pain cry, there's a tired cry. So you start to figure out all the little things that, that, that make it work for you that you don't know with other kids. Plus, if you, if you screw up your own kid, like, it's on, you know, it's, it's mine. It's my responsibility. But I don't want to mess up somebody else's kid by doing something wrong, you know?
Don La Greca
Well, I say all of this to say it was a long way of saying thank you to everyone for your patience. And yesterday was. I got to say, it ended up being an amazing day, spending time with my daughter. So it was special. Now, Don, you had a. You had a question you wanted to ask me?
Peter Rosenberg
Yes, because they were talking this morning. You know, Rick works blue, so obviously not only does he what's more than blue, he's entertained by blue. That he said the most recent White Lotus was extra special in that capacity. You watch the show, so.
Don La Greca
Sure, sure.
Peter Rosenberg
Would you agree? And can you give us anything Disney friendly to give me an idea what happened in that episode?
Don La Greca
Okay, so. So Disney friendly is an interesting situation. First of all, I have a very strong feeling about White Lotus. A lot of people are down. By the way, you and Nancy should watch this show. It's. It's because every year you can just watch one season at a time. It doesn't matter. It doesn't continue. Really. A lot of people are down on it. They don't think enough has happened. I disagree. I think this year has. A lot has happened, and I. Someone had the nerve to tell me they didn't think much happened in the last episode. And in the last episode, it was revealed that something incestuous happened between two brothers. It was about as crazy a reveal in that regard as I've seen on a show.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, so the fact that they're.
Don La Greca
The fact that there are people out there was like, nothing's happening, and they dropped that bomb. Like, Don, I was trying to think through my head. I've seen a lot of shows and movies with things related to sex in literally crossed into a level of freakiness and weirdness I don't think I've ever seen in a real thing. I was like, oh, this is so. I can't believe people are downplaying the craziness up. They were saying on the morning show that it was crazy. They were agreeing with that.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes. Or at least I don't get a sense that everyone watches it, but Rick does, and he said something crazy happened.
Don La Greca
Let me. You know what? Here's the Disney way to say it. What happened between the two brothers at our radio station, it would be most likely to happen between Rick and Michael.
Alan Hahn

Peter Rosenberg

Don La Greca

Peter Rosenberg
That I believe is on Netflix. I think it's Inside Man. Very good. Very funny. But we usually stick to the comedy. So the only thing that we watch that's a drama right now and it's in hiatus. The season ended is a high potential. Andrew Anthony watches that too. It's on abc, but I don't really get into that. But. But the problem with television with me now is I like to keep it somewhat in the vicinity of real life Like, I understand you want to exaggerate certain things, but, like, sometimes things happens. Like, dude, that's never gonna happen in real life. Then you start to lose me a little bit, right? Hey, just gets a little. And what you're explaining, like, would be, no, no. Generations would discuss that as something that happened. And we so desensitized that there could be people that watch that show and not think anything happened.
Don La Greca
No. Now, speaking of television, I know we're off the rails, but this is what we do. I have to tell you, I was very affected by the. When I saw the story this week that this was the 20th anniversary of the premiere of the Office, the American Office, I could not believe that show is 20 years old now. I don't know why, Don. I love that show. It's a big part of my life. I don't know. But 20. Well, Anthony, does that sound like a long time for you? That's the show of your childhood?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, he was 11 when it started, so, yeah, 20 years is different for Anthony than it is for us. Certainly I think it's different for me compared to you. But 2005, like, 2005, I had been working here for four years. 2005 doesn't seem like that long ago, but it's.
Don La Greca
It's a long time ago, dude. I mean, it's before my first life.
Peter Rosenberg
I've never watched an episode, but it's on our company, so I guess they'll appreciate the pop. Like, that's how long Grey's Anatomy's been on, right? I think that started in 05. That's still on the air, right?
Don La Greca
I just couldn't believe it. And I am among the people who thinks I believe the Office is one of the great comedies of all time. I really do. Let's. Let's talk to a little last call crew. The people, if you will.
Peter Rosenberg
Sure.
Don La Greca
Jonathan, you were in Times Square. Is this true? No, he wasn't. That's Jonathan. He's in California.
Jonathan
I'm freezing right here, man. Yeah, Peter, I'm actually one of the tourists in Times Square. And yes, it's filled with people. Can you guys hear.
Don La Greca
Are you actually in New York right now, Jonathan, or no?
Jonathan
Yes, I am. Can you guys hear me good right now?
Peter Rosenberg
I can hear you very well. Are you in New York tomorrow?
Jonathan
Yes, I'll be here right now. I'm actually walking towards Madison Square Garden for the Knicks game. And tomorrow I'll be at the Yankee game. But Donnie, put. Are you gonna be in Anaheim office?
Peter Rosenberg
No, I am not on that Trip. Kenny's not Kenny. Kenny's on the call for the whole western swing. But I'm just doing the pre and post. But if you're in New York, man, you gotta swing by the studio tomorrow.
Jonathan
Oh, here? No way. Really?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, why not, Peter, right? Wouldn't you want to meet Jonathan?
Don La Greca
We love Jonathan from la.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, he's in New York from la. How do we not let him swing by and say hello, check out the news?
Don La Greca
What time. What time's the game?
Peter Rosenberg
Forget the game.
Don La Greca
Oh, no, no, no, you can't skip the game, Don. Our studio's great, but I mean, give me a break.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't let him do that. He's in town to watch the Knicks and the Yankees and he's gonna throw the Yankee game away to go see us. Listen, our studios are gorgeous, but not worth.
Don La Greca
You'll see them next time. Shaking our hand is great, but take in the game. Eat some french fries like a gentleman, for God's sake.
Jonathan
Okay, well, I mean, it's up to you guys, but Jonathan, were you.
Don La Greca
Jonathan, Jonathan, were you really? Were you in Times Square for real when I was doing the press conference?
Jonathan
No, I'm not, but right now I'm on Ace and Route and 50th street, but I was close to Times Square.
Don La Greca
Wow, you really were. You were moments away.
Jonathan
Yeah, yeah.
Don La Greca
Jonathan, you didn't. You have a. You had a baby like five minutes ago. Is the baby with you or you came solo?
Jonathan
No, no, no, no, no. My. My wife stayed with with the baby and I brought my 7 year old son with me.
Don La Greca
Oh, look at you. Look at you.
Peter Rosenberg
I love you can't love the game. Wait a minute. You were gonna miss the game to go see us yo yos at the studio and deprive your son opening day? That's being a bad dad, right? Peter, that's you guys.
Jonathan
You guys been with me so bad and good. So you guys are like, you know, you guys are part of the family, trust me.
Peter Rosenberg
But we'll work something out and maybe, maybe if the game ends early enough to come by or. No, there'll be other times, man, but. No, no, no, no, Jonathan, enjoy.
Don La Greca
Enjoy your trip, buddy. Go get the Knicks another dub tonight, buddy. All right, man.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, how about that? Yesterday, man, Badalas played nobody and the Knicks were just scoring.

All right fellas, I'm back. Game Time brought to you by Tully Mordue Irish Whiskey because when it's game time, it's Tully time. We got a busy night here. Nets in the Raptors at 7:30. Islanders are hosting the Canucks at 7:30. The Devils are playing the Blackhawks in Chicago at 7:30. And right here at Madison Square Garden it's the Knicks and back in action again in a back to back second game of playing against the Los Angeles Clippers here at the world's most famous arena. Coverage begins following us here in just a few minutes. Top of the hour 7:00pm right here on 880 ESPN. Game time brought to our telemardu the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a Telemardu or try the new Telemardu honey during tonight's action. Glasses up to enjoying Tullamore due responsibly. We'll have Mitchell Robinson in the lineup tonight, but not Deuce McBride and obviously not Jalen Brunson. The Clippers are good. They have Kawhi Leonard who's healthy and playing and James Harden's having a terrific year. So this is not an easy second game of a back to back for the Knicks. They had an easy night last night, especially in the second half when they turned it on defensively and blew out a depleted Mavericks team. But this Is a tough one tonight at the Garden. If the Knicks win tonight, fellas, they would clinch a playoff berth, meaning a top six avoiding the play in. Now, obviously they're looking to do a lot more than that. Trying to lock up third or at least the top four to get home court advantage in the first round. But one step at a time tonight with clinch three straight years of playoff basketball.
Richard
Wow.
Don La Greca
It's not bad.
Anthony Pusick
You're excited. I know you're excited.
Peter Rosenberg
You'd like to take it for granted.
Anthony Pusick
I'm just saying there's stuff about, you know, tonight's game that matter. And that's, that's one thing that matters. A back to back against a good Clipper team, that's tough. Home or away, whatever it is, at least you didn't travel. But still, this is, this is going to be a very interesting game tonight. When they played in la, it was the game after they lost Brunson and it was also a back to. Why do they play the Clippers back to back? That's. I just realized that twice now. And they played that. That was an ugly game. But they, they were there. I mean, the game was there to be had in the fourth quarter. It was just those last five minutes. Clutch time. They couldn't make. They could not. They couldn't find somebody to take over in clutch time. It was their first experience without Brunson. So, you know, we'll see how tonight's game goes. But there is a playoff berth for the Knicks on the line and, you know, just trying to stack them up for Tom Thibodeau. By the way, it's not just three in a row, it'd be four in the five years he's been here. Again, the last coach to do that is Jeff Van Gundy.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a while ago.
Anthony Pusick
Yeah, that's why I've said this guy, this guy can coach. This guy can definitely coach. You guys want to go with Peter's favorite caller?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. It's the last Call crew.
Anthony Pusick
Come on, Last Call crew. Richard in Manhattan. Hello, Richard.
Richard
Hi, Don. Peter Allen.
Anthony Pusick
Allen.
Richard
You're 100% right. Best game of the tournament. BYU. Wisconsin. What a game. And that BYU team is exciting. I love, I love that big man. I love the way they play. And the fellows. Won't it be great if Calipari wins the championship? Can you imagine? I don't remember ever a pro or college coach getting fired. And immediately with the new team win a championship. I can't think of anyone. Fellas, great interview with Clyde Allen. I told you to ask Clyde, do you think you would have won in 69, 70 if Bill came back? He answered the question without me asking. Are you asking? He said, I don't know if Bill came back, if it would have happened. So I thought that was great. I danced you, but it's okay. He answered it anyway. All right. Great interview with Howie Rose. Don Stemkowski's goal in 71 was the Willis Reed moment in 70 with the Knicks. Different circumstances, of course. We didn't win the championship, but that goal was that big. Hockey was that huge in New York from the early 60s till around 71, 72, 74. Around that time, hockey was huge in New York. Now, fellas, as far as the overtime, Don, this is for you. Hockey. I hate the shootout. I don't understand. Three on three, you're going to tell me it can go too long. Here's how. And did you see Kadri's goal yesterday with Calgary that was great. In the Winnipeg goal in overtime, three on three was great. But if we do it like this, three on three, the goalie plays without a stick. Someone's got to score fast. That's even better than a shooter. I think it would be great.
Anthony Pusick
I think you just go, 10 minutes.
Richard
Yeah, three. One last thing.
Anthony Pusick
10 minutes.
Richard
Ovechkin will break the record. Don. He's got 36 goals in 60 games now. He's missed 11. So they've played 71, which means they've got 11 games left. Six goals in 11 games. He's on that kind of pace right now. So let's see him do it. Fellas, always a pleasure. Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
Thank you, Richard.
Anthony Pusick
I don't like the goalie. Doesn't play without a stick. I think give me 10 minutes. And instead of five, instead of a shootout. You agree or disagree?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, the question is, can the ice hold up? And in certain markets, especially, you know, Florida, where it's warm, humid.
Anthony Pusick
That's a good point.
Peter Rosenberg
Ice. Will the ice hold up? Because all they could do is a dry scrape after regulation. So once you start getting past, that's why I think maybe you can split the difference. Play 7. If you play an additional couple of minutes, I think that would definitely add to it.
Anthony Pusick
I. I feel like soccer does an injury time or something, like some type of, like, like tack on, so you count up or something. I don't know, like. But I do think the shit I do don't. I don't like to shoot up. I do find that to be the necessary evil to avoid ties. But I, I, Yeah, I'M with you. I get. Give me then, give me then two more minutes. Just get me to seven. I do think three on three, somebody's gonna score.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the thing is, since they've gone to three on three, and I love calling it, it's so much fun. It's so much action. And I usually feel disappointed because the three on three is usually so entertaining. It's like, oh, now we're going to the shootout.
Anthony Pusick
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So it adds to when it was 4 on 4 or 5 on 5, you know, a different story. But because sometimes the overtime just felt like an extension of the, of the. Of the regular game. Didn't really add any juice to it. But now listen, you know how I feel about. I. I wouldn't even mind ties. I lived with them my whole life. Fell in love with the sport, with. I don't care.
Don La Greca
Is it like kissing your sister?
Peter Rosenberg
I've never kissed. I never had a sister.
Anthony Pusick
I never understood that.
Peter Rosenberg
Just some pervert, really. Honestly, it's a really weird thing. It's like my story about not caring. A lot of these phrases come from strange places because they're strange people. Oh, that tie felt like kissing my sister. How would you know? Nobody asked. Did anybody ask that question? If they did, maybe we wouldn't be using that as a phrase.
Anthony Pusick
If you. If your first reaction to somebody saying, well, that's like kissing your sister, how would you know?
Don La Greca
That's a great point.
Peter Rosenberg
And then I want to know, like, so are you. Were you excited about the tie? Are you disgusted with the tie? Because if he says he's disgusted with the tie, it would still bother me that he did kiss his sister, but at least he was disgusted.
Anthony Pusick
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
If he started. If he let you down of the arena, then you know what? We're not friends anymore.
Anthony Pusick
Can we add that now to another list that we should do? So not only we're going to have the dumbest ideas in sports, which, by the way, some of these ideas we've already been getting. It's fantastic. But maybe the dumbest sayings in sports because. Because definitely the kissing your sister thing is definitely one of the dumbest things any broadcaster could ever say.
Don La Greca
And people love it.
Anthony Pusick
Nobody.
Don La Greca
The only thing worse is up for grabs. Yeah. Where did you fall on that, Alan? When I used to argue about that with Michael.
Anthony Pusick
All right. You know, I don't know. I don't remember that argument. I do remember you mentioning it after the fact. And I've always wondered what. All right. What side is everybody on? I never understood it didn't make sense.
Don La Greca
I just don't. To me, if the building's up for grabs, it's, it's, it's either going to be one side or the other. It doesn't mean that the crowd's going crazy. Like, I just don't get that. I. It doesn't make sense to me.
Anthony Pusick
Well, up for grabs, kind of. That's what it means, right? It means. Right, there's two sides.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Anthony Pusick
And who's going to take over the building?
Don La Greca
Not the crowd going crazy for the Yankees and it's up for grabs. Doesn't make sense.
Anthony Pusick
Well, will the crowd be going crazy tomorrow? 3:00 tomorrow. Baseball begins. Talk to you guys tomorrow. Have a great one.
Alan Hahn
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
