B
And we are efforting some sound from Geno Smith.
C
So I'm excited for the sound. I liked the sound of what I,
B
what I saw, what you saw, what he said. Yeah. So that's coming up momentarily. But let me, let me tell you what Eric Spoelstra had to say moments ago when it comes to the 83 point performance by Bam Adebayer that had everybody in the world debating whether or not it was ethical and how it was done and whether or not SPO should have taken him out at some point because it got ridiculous. He said this quote, I apologize to absolutely no one, period. End quote. He's sticking to it now. I don't, I mean, look, I don't blame him. I don't think that, I don't think anybody should start going into any type of fit about a player who had a chance to do something special in his career against a team that couldn't defend for a damn and didn't even try. Right. Fouled him, sent him to the line. The stuff that happened late. Ridiculous. Yes, but are you really, as a coach going, gonna take, gonna do that to your player? Listen, you're getting too close to 80. It's not right. I'm taking you out. Hell no. Let the players say coach, this is getting stupid. Let me add, I don't want I don't want to get the record this way. If the player says it, yeah, of course you take him out. But as a coach, I don't think at the professional level, that's up to you. Do you agree?
C
Yeah. As a professional, that's not. That's not what your job is anymore.
B
But it's. Again, look, you take a player out if he's hurting your team's chance to win a game, the game was already won. If a player's going for a record and he's. He's all about it, he wants to play, he wants to go for it, and the team is into it. And I'm telling your spo, he thinks his team is turning a corner. They have been garbage all year. They're a high scoring team that doesn't defend. They've had bad games, but the last five games, they're looking like a team that's starting to figure it out. They've played a lot better.
C
Yeah. Why would you not want to have an awesome. An awesome moment to rally people? You're starting to feel it.
B
Wake up your room, create some type of momentum. I think SPO was coaching that thing into. What could this become for us late in the season, down the stretch? Could this be a galvanizing moment for us? I think he was looking at it that way and wasn't even at all thinking, nah, this is no way to get a record. Come on, man. So he shouldn't apologize and no one should take him to task for it. It's the Wizards who deserve all of the vitriol.
C
Totally agree. Any vitriol you have should be at the guys who are literally standing there watching him dunk. The idea that the Heat should sit him down out of some sort of respect for the game or Bam shouldn't.
B
What? Yeah, these aren't.
C
These moments don't come along every day. You got to go for it.
B
Like, what would have Kobe done in that situation? Kobe would have stepped on the throat and taken as many points as he could.
C
He would have scored 100.
B
Let me score. I'm scoring.
C
Kobe would have scored 100, that's for sure.
B
Well, I've already said that. The stats tell you he could have gotten to 100. He had enough shots. But the thing is to get there, man, like, it could.
C
We know how you feel about FGA's, but the fact that Bam was even in the conversation, given the kind of score he is, is kind of crazy, right? Think about the kind of score Kobe is.
B
Dude.
C
Allen, he could have 110. Yeah, well, I mean, we're talking about a completely different level. I mean, if Kobe's not a three
B
point shooter and he made seven threes, which for him is a big deal. Yeah. Anybody else that, you know, you could have put up a true score. Yeah, yeah. No. That's why I said, like, we are looking at this game and people who are, especially people that really aren't into basketball, who always are seeking that reason to tear the sport apart. You can say what you want about how much of a farce the ending was and to watch it. Yes, there were moments you're like, what are we doing? But more of it was about what the Wizards were doing. Like, guys, you know he's got 70, right? Like, are we gonna just say we're triple teaming this dude and not letting him get it? Like, at some point when he had 52 and a third in the third quarter, that's when you as a team just decide, I don't care. The water's off. This guy's not getting anymore. We're not letting him do it. And instead they're like running around fouling. They're. They're falling into each other. They're not sprinting back on defense, letting him get wide open like, it was the dumbest defensive effort you could ever imagine for an NBA, for a professional team. In that moment, they collectively allowed it to happen. So if you want to be pissed off at anybody about this, you. You get pissed off at them, not at the player who decided, I can put my name up there with two of the greats of all time. I'm going to do that. Not a problem. Hey, get ready, New York soccer fans. New York City FC is back at Yankee Stadium for a massive showdown against Inter Miami on Sunday, March 22nd. Soccer is back, everybody. Click granger.com or just stop by 800-919-3776. So before we get to any of the Geno Smith stuff, why don't we get a couple of calls in here. We do have some reaction to your list, Peter. Okay, Justin in Delaware on the list. Go ahead, Justin. Going on.
E
Guys, how you doing?
B
Good.
E
I. Peter, I love the list. I just have two more that are emotional, some different levels.
B
Okay.
E
I got Keisha's Song by Kendrick Lamar.
D
Okay.
E
And I got for your Eyes Only by J. Cole.
C
It's funny, J. Cole when I was looking around today for different songs, J. Cole has more different songs that make these sort of emo playlists than Anybody. It's like, he's really good at tapping into it. The question that's going to be interesting to be answered tomorrow is that. And also Kendrick sing About Me. I'm Dying of Thirst. I considered as well. I had forgotten about that song.
F
Yes, that one, too.
D
Yes, yes.
C
That one's really. I kind of forgot about that. That's an album cut off Good Kid Mad City. That's just awesome. The interesting part is going to be, like, whether Don, you know, listen. Genres of music are all very different. Like, I could put on a metal album, like a classic metal album. Alan. And there's a chance that just given the kind of music listener I am, while I may hear the music, I just. I'm not able to fully get it. Like, music's its own language.
B
Yes.
C
And Don has hip hop songs he likes, but, like, with the exception of the Wu Tang album and an Ice T album, I have never heard of him going super deep into hip hop. Like, yeah, yeah.
B
There's not enough of a depth there to.
C
He may not. He may like Alan. All of these songs, even the ones I know on my list, there are a few you didn't know. I fully trust you'll listen to them and come back and be like, oh, man, that J. Cole.
B
Like, you'll.
C
You'll be able to understand the lyrics. You will hear the song and intention. I don't know. And this isn't disrespect because of lack of experience. I don't know that he has the context to be able to just be like, boom, I got it.
B
I don't know. But it's. I don't know. Yeah. Just to put a bow on it again. I've always said it's subjective. If you have an ear, it's a certain sound that'll move you. It doesn't matter the style of music. It's just whatever it is, it gets you. And if you don't get it, you just. You just don't get it. You might not, but you know who gets it? Rochelle in Queens. You know what she gets? She gets Don Lagreca. Rachelle.
E
Hey, guys. How are you?
B
Good.
C
Hey, Rachelle.
E
Hey. This is Tess's arch nemesis. You know who it is. Rachelle from Queens.
B
Yes.
E
I have had a relationship with you, Don, in my head since the first time I laid eyes on you.
B
You don't remember that call, Peter.
E
Yeah.
B
Yeah. Oh, Rochelle loves her some Don Juan Lagreca.
E
So listen to this. My husband. Since Don and I have been together for so long, my husband Wants to bring me to meet him tomorrow for the first time.
B
No, no. This must happen. Yay. So you are so. All right, can we confirm, Rochelle, that you and. What's your husband's name? Jure. All right. Jeray. So Jeray and Michelle will be VIP guests at the show.
E
Okay, now you. All right, It's a date tomorrow.
C
Now, you guys. You guys aren't going to, like, suggest anything weird to Don, right?
E
Absolutely not. This is all just in my head. Did you not hear the initial phone call? I have had a relationship with you, Don, in my head since the first time I laid eyes on you.
B
See, it's an imaginary thing that exists.
E
Exactly. My husband has his imaginary relationship.
C
All right, cool.
B
It's not with Don.
D
Yeah.
E
No further.
C
Just making sure, because, you know, we'll see you tomorrow. But, Anthony, you remember now, and you remember back in the case show, you know, Michael would suggest certain things about the key parties.
B
Yeah.
C
And I didn't know that if what Rochelle was suggesting by bringing her husband, like.
B
Oh, no, no, I know what you're saying. We did explore this the first time Rachelle called. And then if I'm not Anthony, correct me if I'm wrong. Husband called after he called. Yeah.
D
Yep.
B
He called to confirm all this.
D
But.
B
But listen, like. And we do a couple of different remotes. Look, you guys have been it. We've done Moynihan hall now for what, two. Two years in a row? This will be. Well, it is an open. It is open. An open bar in the sense of. The bar is open. It doesn't mean free drinks. The bar is open for anybody to come sit down and hang out with us. So. But we will make sure to point out Rochelle and he. She will have to meet Don, that's for sure.
C
There you go.

Wow, you mixed that one up. Rangers visit the Jets. The Winnipeg Jets. That is coverage immediately following Dan Grasso, who follows us in a moment on 880 at 7:30, the Devils. That's why Don is no longer with us. Well, he's with us in spirit, of course, but he is getting ready to cover this game. He'll be calling this game on MSG. Devils in the Flames at 7 and the Nets there in Atlanta. They take on the Hawks at 7:30. No Magic City. And coverage of the ACC double header will begin on 10:50. That's already underway in fact on 10:50am, Tullamore Dew, the original triple distilled, triple blended, triple cast matured Irish whiskey. Be sure to grab a telemore do or try to do tell more Dew, honey. During today's action, glasses up to enjoying Tullamore Dew responsibly. Dan Grass again will follow us. We do have a lot of what Geno Smith had to say. Do you want to hear a little bit of it here, Peter? Because Gino on a zoom with, with the media. Very interesting stuff that he's saying. Now. Remember Rich Samini talked to Pete Carroll and Pete Carroll blamed coaching on why Gino struggled last year in Las Vegas. So here's Gino. I thought this is the best part is playing for the jets and I guess going back to the jets, his reaction to that.
C
That's right.
F
First of all, I was just honored, really, you know, for coach Glenn, you know, and everyone over there to even consider me. You know, obviously there's history, you know, being drafted by the jets, but the first initial thought was just, man, what a, what an honor, you know, to be considered, you know, to be the quarterback of the jets again and you know, to walk back into that building and you know, I had to obviously think about it and, you know, try and weigh my options and see, you know, what was the best move, best decision not only for myself before, you know, the jets organization and you know, we decided that something that we wanted to explore and I'm just happy it got done, man. I'm super excited. And as the days have gone by, you know, really since the trade, I've just been more and more excited.
B
He's excited about it now. He said we made a decision. So it sounds like they clearly talked to him before they made the trade because they traded for him. The feeling was, or at least that's what the reporting was because they were worried about having competition to get him because he was going to get. He was going to get waived and he would have been available as a free agent, but they made that seventh round, sixth round pick swap with the Raiders so they could get him before he was available and the Raiders going to pick up the bulk of his salary. So he said though, that he wanted to do it, which means they clearly talked to him. What's it like though, being back in Florham Park? Gino? I'm hoping he's got a room key.
F
For me, it really felt like just, you know, all those memories just kind of rushed back into my head. Just the first time I walked into that building and it looked so much the same. And I mean, it just felt like I was back where, you know, where I. Where I belong. Man, it felt special. It really did. Going into the locker room, you know, they made some changes to the locker room. You know, really, really cool changes. All digital stuff.
C
That's pretty cool.
F
But just, you know, walking down the hallway and, you know, back in the. Walking past some of the meeting rooms that I, you know, once was in and, you know, getting a chance to see some familiar faces, those are the things that really, you know, I really thought about when I walked into that building. And I mean, it was just a special moment for me and, you know, I can't wait for my family to get there and see it all and then we can, you know, kind of share those memories together.
B
Is it 13 years? Is that how long it's been?
C
Yeah, I think so. And what do you think? That's.
B
It's like walking back into a play again. He couldn't have had good memories, right? It ended very badly. Like to go back in there and say, I'm back, man. Like, that's again, all kidding aside, all the other stuff aside, like, by the way, it's been.
C
Sorry, it's been 10 years.
B
10.
C
Yeah. And then 76 with the Giants.
B
Yeah, right. Okay. Because Fitzpatrick took over when he obviously got into the thing with ik. Sorry. So still a decade later, do you
C
know what I saw? The funniest. The funniest tweet I've seen about this was earlier I saw someone tweet. They said Geno Smith is somehow the best quarterback the jets have had since Geno Smith. And when you look Rogers, I mean, well, was. Was Rogers of last year of two remembers ago.
B
Rogers has, I think, the third highest passing yard season in jets history.
C
Again, as we talked about yesterday. It doesn't say that much, but.
B
It doesn't.
C
But. No, no. But let me just put it out there though. Could Gino, if Gino, if Vegas was sort of a, you know, a one off, really bad team and it didn't go well, if Geno is sort of back to where he was in Seattle, he certainly could be at least as good as Rogers was in year two. And then you're having a conversation about he is like just about the best quarterback they've had since he left. It has not been glorious, folks.
B
No. No it hasn't. So again, there's, there's some optimism there. I'll remind everybody again what Pete Carroll said was it was on him and Chip Kelly what happened in Vegas that they didn't prepare him right and that he was put, he was in a tough situation. They had a good start and then it all went to hell after that. And he wouldn't put it on Geno. He said he put it on, on coaching. We will find out what does it mean? What does it translate to? That's for everybody else. We're going to debate it and we're going to kick it around and wonder are the jets going to win too much to get the quarterback of the future by going to a quarterback of the past? That's the most, that's the most bizarre thing in this, in this whole story. It's unusual. Let's. Of course it is. Griffin in Connecticut. Griffin wants to chime in on this whole Miami of Ohio thing. Griff,
E
My point is I don't care who you play. You're playing Division 1 schools, Division 1 teams. And to go 31 and oh in the regular season is very incredible. And since this tournament has been there, there has been no team that has 30 plus wins that have missed out on the NCAA tournament. You're telling me you're going to have them not make the NCAA tournament because one loss in the conference tournament, I think it's ridiculous. I think it's silly because I, I don't think Auburn deserves to be in. I know they're in a tough sec, but I don't think a team that is so inconsistent and looks good one night looks bad the other night like everybody does on the bubble deserves to be in. One thing we know is Miami, Ohio, every single night is consistently capable of winning. Except for one night. Except for one night.
B
Now, Griffin, the only thing I'm going to say, I don't disagree with you. I think 30 wins is still a season that should be recognized by the NCAA and put them in the tournament. But when I tell you they're beating teams like Old Dominion, Trinity Christian, Arkansas, Pine Bluff, you know, Maine, you know, that's a hockey school, you know, like this. Right.
C
State. I went through the whole thing. It's not Bowling Green.
B
Like, this is Ohio University.
C
Yeah, it's not great.
B
Like, that's the problem. So that's the strength of schedule issue. So join us tomorrow at, of course, the Irish exit at Moynihan starting at 3. Have a great night, everybody. Thanks for listening to the Don Han and Rosenberg podcast.
C
I don't want to know how the
