Don Hahn and Rosenberg With Don Lagreca and Peter Rosenberg. I'm Alan Hahn 880 ESPN and ESPN New York app. 800-919-3776 Time now guys for game time. It's brought to you by Tulla Mordue Irish Whiskey. Because when it's game time, it is Tully time. I am at Madison Square Garden. That of course means the Knicks are playing. They host the Nuggets tonight with coverage immediately following us right here on 880. Elsewhere, the Devils will welcome in the Flyers at 7:30. The Nets visit the Hornets at 7. Of course, Tullamore du the original Triple distilled, triple blended and triple cast matured Irish Whiskey. Be sure to grab a Tullamore Du or try the new Tullamore Dew Honey during tonight's action. Glasses up to enjoying Tullamore do responsibly. We had the Rangers last night, Don, here at Madison Square Garden. I I did a little excursion, followed you along. I I felt like I did not want to impede too much. You know, like Rick D. Pietro used to tell me all the time, do you don't want to hover, don't linger. That was a big thing with him lingering. So I tried to like not you know, like get in the way. But I did enjoy just sort of being in the building when it's a hockey people, not basketball people and just seeing the different, the different mood in the place for the Rangers. But that second period was an entertaining one and Peter, you had to see it. So the Rangers had a million rushes and Frederick Anderson made save after save one. That one kick save on Kreider was insane. Yeah, but he just made some big stops. The Rangers just couldn't score. So then they have a it was right after I think Was it. Was it a shorthanded breakout right with it that Trocheck was on?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, because the Lindgren was in the box. He was just coming out of the box. And Trocheck partial breakaway.
Don LaGreca
So he has a breakaway and all he's got to do is try to throw one on net. The trailer, I can't remember who it.
Peter Rosenberg
Was, but the trailer was Miller. The Miller was the trailer. Spare was the Hurricane. That was catching up to him. Yeah, that's fine.
Don LaGreca
Right? So Trocheck turns and instead of just putting it on net and maybe there's a rebound that Miller could bury, he tries a between the legs behind the back pass that gets deflected. Of course, the minute that happens, now they're rushing the other way. And two Rangers are now caught deep. Don says this, oh, they're going to score here. Sure enough, they scored there. Like, like, it's as if Don has watched enough Ranger hockey this season to know that moment that they lost was definitely going to turn into what was a back breaking late goal in the period that suddenly a one nothing game that was very entertaining for most of that period turned into what felt like an insurmountable two nothing lead. And then just a little over a minute into the third, that's all she wrote. It was Ajo, right, that scored like a minute in and it felt like the game was completely over. But that's a, you know, look, the twist, the knife when it comes to losing that game to the avalanche and 14 seconds to go. But this, this four nothing loss that third period, I know I wasn't here, but I heard it, as it was being called. Sounded like the life was out of the building.
Peter Rosenberg
No, once a host scored a minute, four seconds, they made a three nothing. It was. It was lights out because Rangers only had 22 shots on goal, but they have 55 shot attempts, which means Carolina blocked, I think 18, blocked a bunch of shots. And then there was the missed shots. So they had the puck, they were getting opportunities, they just couldn't finish it all. So once it was three nothing, you figure they're not going to go from not being able to finish to scoring three go in the third to force overtime. But I brought this up on my podcast, Game of Conduct, which you can hear with myself and Anthony Pusick where you get your podcasts. You saw what happened on Sunday against Colorado, where the power plays over Borgen, still trying to make a play, doesn't realize McCarr's coming out of the box. Bad pass gets picked off. They Lose the game in regulation, Awful loss. They lost possible two points in the standings because of that decision. Instead of just get the puck deep, get to overtime, get your point. Similar situation, I think last night, like TRO checks out a partial breakaway. Okay, try to score. But once you see that, it's the end of the power play, which he's supposed to be conscious of. So that means their power play skill players are on the ice. There's 30 seconds to go on the period. Don't make a mistake where you're going to get an odd man rush the other way and give up a killer goal. Because he said after that he didn't have an angle because got to spare, closed on him. So rather than shoot the puck into Anderson's chest, he wanted to make a play. Why are you making a play there? Fire it into his chest. Maybe he leaves a rebound and Miller could put in the rebound for a goal. Maybe you get a face off deep in the offensive zone, you could score there. Instead, he tries to make something that's impossible between the legs passed to try to get it to Miller, who he said after the game, trying to get it to Smitty, so he didn't even know he was passing the puck to. And then it creates an odd man rush. Blake bang. Now Rantanen and Svechnikov, two of the best players in the league, come in on an odd man rush and you give up a goal. So instead of going to the third period down a goal or maybe with an opportunity to tie the game, now it's two nothing, all the killer to give up goals late in a period. Like, you just have to be, I think, a little bit more responsible when you know how every point is so sacrosanct. You just can't afford to make mistakes like that.
Alan Hahn
And I mean, Don, it started. You talked about the back breaker with the Ajo goal so early in the third. I mean, how much can you put a crowd through? Don? They give up a goal in the first minute of the game again.
Peter Rosenberg
They've been doing it all year.
Alan Hahn
A really, really obvious goal, too. Like you were talking, Alan was talking about how you pointed out the goal to him before it happened. My friend Chauncey, who was a hockey player who'd always. I'd watch hockey with, always talked about, if you want to see goals, just look for space on the ice, Don. And the second the game started, you saw the space on the ice, you knew they were scoring in the first minute. It was right there. It's just they are. They give you These glimpses where you think they might be about to turn the corner. And they kind of always go back to the mean of who they are, unfortunately.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, the top three teams in the Metropolitan Division, Washington, who's starting to run away with it. It's amazing what they. Which is crazy that this has happened. I mean, they barely made the playoffs last year, got bound, got swept by the Rangers, and now they, they. They're the best team in the NHL right now. Then you got Carolina and New Jersey. Those are the top three teams in the Metropolitan Division. Collectively, the Rangers are one and seven against those three teams. And the one win they have is against New Jersey and it came in overtime. So they're not dancing with those teams now. They did beat Vegas and they did beat Dallas. But you always kind of, whatever the sport is, you always kind of grade yourself on how you are within your division. And against the top three teams, they've got one win, They've got six wins in the division. Two of them are against Pittsburgh. Pittsburgh's not going to the playoffs. The Islanders give them love. They won five in a row, but they got to win against them. But you're not beating the big time teams. You had a nice 7:3 run, but now you're carving into that with these two regulation losses. And now you got a weekend going against a Boston team that's not that good. But still it's Boston and it's national tv. And then a short turnaround, having to take on Vegas at the Garden on Sunday, come away with no points this weekend, guys. Then you start to really have to think that it's not happening.
Alan Hahn
All right, let's get to the phones. By the way, Don, so many people to talk to here. And you should see, Twitter was just eviscerating my list and coming after me for how little I know.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't understand were they problem with the order or Daniel's being five. Where are you getting attacked?
Alan Hahn
It was both. It was both. Although I truthfully think this is what I. This is what makes it a great list, is that I think there's reasonable arguments on both of the things we're discussing.
Peter Rosenberg
Burrow through 43 touchdown passes this year. So don't make it seem like he's a buffoon for having Burrow one.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I mean, no, exactly. By the way, look, except for his rookie year, right? And then he was hurt, of course, a couple of years ago. When that guy plays, his numbers are obscene. And you can say, oh, well, look at the weapons he has. Yeah, you don't know what he would do with different weapons. We've only seen him with who he has. You. You. The people act as if they know what would happen if he didn't have Jamar Chase. You just simply don't know. I can only base it on what I've seen, but I think it's a fantastic conversation. But all you people get so loud and high and mighty on Twitter. Gutless pukes when the phone lines are open at 1-800-919-3776. Let's go to a friend who's been on hold for a long time. The good old Griftster in Connecticut.
Peter Rosenberg
Hi, Griff.
Griffin
Hey, guys.
Peter Rosenberg
I want to attack you, Peter, because I'm.
Griffin
I actually agree with Burrow being up there. I'm not. Chris can't do. By the way.
Peter Rosenberg
Doesn't think he's elite.
Griffin
If you saw that.
Alan Hahn
He doesn't think Burrows elite.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, that's moronic. It's a moronic.
Alan Hahn
That's. That's just.
Peter Rosenberg
How can you not be elite? 40 touchdown passes.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I know.
Griffin
He was talking about not going to the playoffs. There's another side of the ball called defense.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, I don't.
Peter Rosenberg
Also the only guy to walk into the. The cauldron and win. Right.
Alan Hahn
What else you got for us, Griffin?
Griffin
I wanted to talk about this Lakers.
Peter Rosenberg
Thing with Bromley and stuff, but then.
Griffin
Then the hockey side and then the Pro Bowl. Are we sure when they were. When they did the replacements, are we sure that they did not think about maybe C.J. strout or Justin Herbert or. Or did they not want to play because there's so many other chances that you could go before Russell Wilson and Drake May. How about Bo Nix? Why don't you think about Bo Nick before Drake May.
Peter Rosenberg
They must have all said no.
Griffin
That's what I'm really thinking. Because that. That to me is why. That to me is why I'm just. I'm just surprised about that. In my hockey thing. Done.
Alan Hahn
You.
Griffin
You guys talked about my Capitals that are running away with this division. Can I actually think about maybe could we win the Stanley cup this year? Or is it too crazy to think?
Peter Rosenberg
No. Well, why wouldn't you? Yeah, I know President's Trophy winners usually don't win the cup, but if you end up over 82 games proving you're the best team in the NHL, why wouldn't you be in the conversation now? Do I think that they would win it, Peter? Because Florida's still lurking and with their pedigree and. And all that. But you still would take the field. Don't get me wrong. But why, why wouldn't you have confidence in your team if they do that?
Alan Hahn
If, if at this stage you're playing the best hockey in the league. Yeah, Griff, start fantasizing. You know, why not? Let's go to. Oh, boy. Everybody's on the line. How many clicks you think we get from our guy?
Peter Rosenberg
Three.
Alan Hahn
All right, let's see.
Peter Rosenberg
Click. Hey, Richard, how are you?
Griffin
Peter. Hi, Don. Hi, Alan. Alan, this goes to you. We can have an NBA final of Houston and Cleveland.
Don LaGreca
Hell yeah.
Griffin
Has there ever been a more unheralded matchup with players? I mean, there's not one superstar amongst those 10 starters. Maybe Donovan Mitchell, but I wouldn't even call him a superstar. So if we had a Houston, Cleveland final, it would unprecedented in the NBA. Can you think of any finals?
Peter Rosenberg
No, there's no.
Don LaGreca
Why am I trashed? Why me?
Peter Rosenberg
I, I.
Griffin
Well, you're the NBA guys. Then I got a couple more things on NBA.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead.
Griffin
All right, Call Anthony Towns. Reminds me of a transformative nick player 50 years ago.
Don LaGreca
Hell yeah.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Griffin
Bob McAdoo. He reminds me of McAdoo. McAdoo was the first guy to face the basket beat as he beat you off the triple and had a great handle. Now if Boston plays Houston in the final, you would have the coach of Houston, Udeki. Is that his name? Udoko.
Alan Hahn
Ime Udoka.
Griffin
Ime Udoko playing his former team. It would be the greatest thing you've ever seen. He built the Boston Celtics and the Houston Rockets and it would be unbelievable to see them facing each other in the final. It would be unprecedented. You've never seen anything like that. And my last thing is this. What I'd love to see is Saquon win it Saturday. Sunday, next Sunday, Hartenstein win it. The NBA final and the Mets winning with Soto. In one year, three players left New York teams for money and all three led their new teams to championships. That would be unbelievable. Just think of that, fellas.
Peter Rosenberg
Didn't think about that. Here's the thing with Cleveland. They're not going to the, they're not going to the NBA Finals.
Alan Hahn
They can be had is what you're saying.
Peter Rosenberg
They could be had. And Houston and listen, I don't know what's going to happen out west because it always seems like the west spits out like whoever. When Phoenix made it the one year, you know, Lakers in the, in the bubble, like it's, it's wide open in the West. You really think Cleveland's gonna, I know they're having an amazing regular season, Peter, but they've got like zero postseason experience. Like deep in the playoffs. You gotta go through Boston, you know there's.
Alan Hahn
You gotta go through the Knicks potentially who.
Peter Rosenberg
And the Knicks have had their number. I don't want to take anything away from great regular season, but he's right. It would be unheralded. And then. And that's why I don't think it would happen. Like I just don't think that happens in the NBA usually don't get those types of runs. Even though it wouldn't be a run for Cleveland because they'd be the one seed. But that'd be. I just don't expect that to happen. And if you want to think like, you know, like oh my God, these two teams. Look at the World Series a couple of years ago with the Rangers versus the Diamondbacks. Like yawn, but I like to see Oklahoma City run. But we saw it last year. Minnesota okc. Minnesota okc. Did either of them go?
Alan Hahn
You know, Richard's call had some tough moments. The best point he made because it certainly wasn't that seeing Ime Udoka coach against the Celtics would be quote the greatest thing you've ever seen.
Griffin
Is that his name? Udoko?
Alan Hahn
Oh boy. Oh boy.
Peter Rosenberg
Drop machine.
Alan Hahn
Oh, he's on fire right now. That was. I need it one more time please.
Griffin
Uteki. Is that his name? Utoko.
Alan Hahn
It's the Don. It's the question mark in both and them both being so wrong. Oh boy. So not only was that just. No. And of course and him having him having no idea that Alan was not here even though Allen I think announced that he had to go do something. Right. But. But I will say the point that he did make that was good. I went through and looked on if you get a Houston Cleveland series, he is right. That would be the least star laden finals on that you could at least go back. I looked 30 years, I went back, couldn't find one, can't do it. So that was it. That was a decent point.
Peter Rosenberg
That was a decent point. And as far as like he really reached because like no offense to Hartenstein, but it wasn't like at the Saquon Soto level. And besides they couldn't pay him like so you make it seem like they made a decision like he made a decision for money. That that was a no brainer for for Hartenstein. The Knicks couldn't bring him back. And kind of the same with Saquon. The Giants were good. So don't make it seem like Saquon went to Philly for the money. He was, they weren't going to get an offer from the Giants anymore, so. And Soto, yeah, he went for the money, but that was a bit of a reach. But I do appreciate the effort and probably came at the expense of somebody's molar, but I do think he made an effort.
Alan Hahn
It is interesting, by the way, when you look at how good Houston is now, to think about the role, if they were to actually be a championship caliber team, to think about Fred Van Vliet having yet another situation where he's playing a pivotal role on a team that you wouldn't expect to be that good. To be that good. All right, speaking of inside baseball, when it comes to basketball, let's go to our friend Spike in St. Peter. Hey, Spike.
Griffin
Hey, boys. How are you? Don, I'm finished with the cataract surgery.
Peter Rosenberg
How'd it go?
Griffin
I, I can't tell you. I just, I, I am seeing things. What's that song? I can see clearly now. It's just, I, I go in for the post op this morning early and young lady comes in an od and she comes in and she's looking at me. She doesn't say, not so well, it's very early. She looks through the machine and then she opens her mouth. Dead voice impersonation of Fran Drescher. This took me back to Queens, you know, but she said, you did great. You, you can drive without glasses. Come back in three weeks. You know, the drill bus, the cold.
Peter Rosenberg
The eye drops, you got to sleep with the patch. I know the whole, I got, I.
Griffin
Did both eyes in eight days. So I, I'm telling you, it's like a miracle. And I said to my wife on the way out, and this is good for you to hear too, Peter, with a newborn then your daughter even looks more beautiful now. I said, you know, our grandchildren, my wife's much younger than I am, but they're going to find parts of the body they can replace. If the world for some reason get straighten out and stay straight on its axis, they're going to find replacement body parts. You know, these are, these lenses have been in my eyes for 78 and a half years. I got brand new eyes. It's just a miracle. Anyway, one thing, what Richard said, and you know, I know you guys have fun with Richard Moore. I've known Richard since 1969 or 70 when he called Bill Mazer, who don't remember, was amazing with the trivia. Amazing. And Richard comes up with some novel ideas, you know, and you know, you guys scoop around a little bit and that's part of the stick. But he did make a good point. Red Van Fleet's a very interesting case. Peter undrafted, paid for Wichita State. He's having a horrible year shooting the three ball. It's like 32% this year. But he did go to Toronto and got a chip. Kawhi was there. Kawhi was in Mercenary that year, if you remember one and done. So it's going to be fascinating. But I don't see Cleveland. I think they're soft. I think it's coming down to Boston and the Knicks. And if anybody beats okc, and I'll always say this to anyone I talk to, notwithstanding a major injury, I don't see them getting beat in the West. I just don't. They got knocked out last year, Dallas, everything went Dallas's way. And they got to the finals because OKC had a tough. They got a great coach who really, you know, he played with the owner's wife. They went off the court with me along up in Boston. He would have been there. But I give your coach a lot of credit, Joe Missoula, who's the youngest coach in the league, I think.
Alan Hahn
No, Spike, it's. No, it's. It's an incredible story when you think about it. Spike. Like when, if you guys remember, the Udoka leaving in Boston was all very weird, right? We all, everyone, you know, there was a lot of speculation about what it was him messing around. This is all speculation with a. Someone in the ownership group's wife and he was cheating on Nia Long, the actress who was his longtime girlfriend. All that stuff was weird, right? He ends up getting exiled from Boston and Don at the time, it's this crazy thing. And then they bring in Missoula and the, the fact that they not only haven't skipped a beat, but then went on to win a championship with Missoula. It. You just don't get it very often. I think probably the guy give the most credit to in all of that is Brad Stevens, who sort of is the consistent piece of this Celtics team. But it's just wild that, that, that that happened. Let's. Let's talk to Anthony and Charlotte a little Rangers talk. What do you got, Anthony? Hey, what's going on, guys? First of all, congratulations, Peter, on little Maya. She is adorable.
Griffin
And just based on the last night.
Alan Hahn
I mean, I mean the amount of curse words that came out of my mouth when Trocheck chose not to shoot.
Griffin
The puck like Don, we've got Two.
Peter Rosenberg
Centers on this team that they refuse.
Griffin
To shoot the puck. They've had wide open lanes to the net. Mika has done it a few times this year.
Alan Hahn
Did it one time last year in the playoffs.
Peter Rosenberg
And now you got Trocheck doing the exact same thing.
Alan Hahn
What is the hesitancy for these guys.
Griffin
To shoot the puck?
Peter Rosenberg
I just don't understand.
Griffin
And you talked about the block shots.
Peter Rosenberg
For Carolina last night. That used to be the Rangers.
Griffin
That used to be a staple.
Peter Rosenberg
Why is that something that's disappeared?
Alan Hahn
Is that something that Peter, Lafayette and.
Peter Rosenberg
Staff don't want the guys doing? Well, no, he wants them to do it for sure. Because I've seen Laviolette in the past have teams do that. They're too finesse. They're a finesse team, that's what they are. And they got guys that just want to pass. And you know, Dave Will mentioned during a broadcast, he's like, all right, Q Sweet Georgia Brown. That's what it feels like. I'm watching the Harlem Globetrotters between the leg passes and, you know, cross ice passes that have almost no chance of connecting. That's why they got Kaliev, because he's a shoot first, ask questions later. They need that. Shoot the puck. I saw Kevin Hayes do it. Bad angles score goals. Believe me, when I do play by play, Peter, everybody fantasizes about the call being a two on one clean breakaway. Half the goals I call there, you have to wait to find out who scored it because it was deflected in front. Did it go off the other team? Did it go off a guy standing in front? Everybody wants these pretty gorgeous goals. Sometimes just take the damn broken bat. Single. They count too. And it just frustrates everybody.
Alan Hahn
That just reminded me of Ray from North Carolina. He frustrates everybody. What is he. What was the line that was just like that. It's up. Everyone's upset. He's upsetting everyone.
Griffin
He just continually upsets everyone up there onto 4th Avenue and let him walk up and down the street.
Alan Hahn
Alright, guys, we have a couple of phone lines open. So whatever it is you want to fight about, cheer about, discuss. We haven't had lines open all day, but we got a couple right now. 1-800-919-3776. Don Hahn and Rosenberg on 880. Don, talk to me about your bathtub.

Peter Rosenberg
Before.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, yeah, some troubling moments on the call about people that some people weren't familiar with.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah, that was weird.
Alan Hahn
And then poor Anthony gets called out as if he's a loser because he knows who people are. Who. Anyone who pays attention to the news in a basic way knows who they are.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. This is not a statement on anything like your opinion. It's just how do you. How do you avoid not knowing, like certain people? I don't know if you want to reveal.
Alan Hahn
No, no, we don't need to, because the people themselves are rather, you know, what's the word I'm looking for? Divisive. But. But, yeah, either way, poor Anthony getting beat up for no reason. This guy's producing a hell of a program. Now, let's. Let's get right back to the last call crew. 1-800-919-3776. Every line jammed up.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's.
Alan Hahn
Let's talk to the people and make some more room here. Eli. And Far Rock has been waiting for a long time. Eli. Eli, how you doing, buddy?
Griffin
Hey, guys. How you doing?
Peter Rosenberg
Good.
Griffin
All right. First of all, I wish Peter mazel tov. Yeah, you know, hope you see lots of. Nah.
Alan Hahn
Thank you. Thank you, buddy. Are you. Are you a Jew from. Are you a Jew from Rockaway?
Griffin
Yeah. You know it.
Alan Hahn
Wow. What. What part of Rockaway from. What street are we talking about?
Griffin
Well, like, the beach 17th area. Beach what, like 17.
Alan Hahn
Oh, beach 17th. That is far out. Okay. My. My family's from Rock. Regular Rockway. My grandmother's place was at Beach 122nd.
Griffin
Yeah. Okay. I know what you're talking about.
Alan Hahn
You know it.
Griffin
Well.
Alan Hahn
All right. What do you got for us, my friend?
Griffin
Yeah. Yeah. First of all, I want to thank you guys for talking hockey, because the morning show, you think with the hockey guy on the show, they do it, but they never do.
Alan Hahn
You know what? Listen, I love you calling them out for it. They do a hell of a show, but let's just be honest about it. We do hockey better on the show. Let's just be honest. Let's just say what it is. It is what it is. So.
Griffin
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah. So I wanted to tell you. I don't know if you guys saw, but Mike, our fellow reported at the. The jets have a. Have a new. They're interviewing for the head coaches. The head coach is interviewing. Which is Aaron Glenn. He's interviewing for a quarterback coach, and he's actually currently the assistant quarterback coach of the Washington Commanders. I think Don is actually familiar with his work.
Peter Rosenberg
That's right. You're familiar with the work of David Blow.
Griffin
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
I can't believe.
Griffin
So David Blow is on the. On the command. He's assistant quarterback coach on the Commanders, and him And Aaron Glenn actually crossed over in the year 2021. So maybe he'll be a quarterback coach on the Jets.
Alan Hahn
And by the way, like, you know, we haven't given David Blau, or as we know him, David Blow doesn't get a ton of credit in the conversation of Jaden Daniels, of course, because number one, Cliff Kingsbury gets all the credit. And number two, you know, I'm sure you guys have seen the articles, because these days the way it works works is an article comes out four months ago and then as time passes, like TikTok starts picking up on the article and then different people who claim to be knowledgeable just like put it on a teleprompter and read it to the camera and go, did you know Jaden Daniels uses VR? Anthony, have you seen this yet on your algorithm?
Griffin
I have seen this, yes.
Alan Hahn
It's been out forever, but it got very big over the last month that one of the major reasons people believe Jayden Daniels was so immediately effective is that like two years ago, essentially, he met these people who brought VR to LSU and he started making virtual reality a big part of his Life. And at 6:00am every day, Don, he's playing virtual reality games where if they're playing against Detroit, he's playing a full game in the exact stadium against Detroit Lions schemes. Right? So that gets a lot of credit, Kingsbury gets a lot of credit. But either way, if you see a place where a quarterback coach has had a very effective young quarterback, Don, why not give it a shot?
Peter Rosenberg
Well, people didn't realize that was what Kyler Murray was doing, but unfortunately he had a controller and he gave himself carpal tunnel and couldn't.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, he was like, I do the same thing, bro. I just have a controller. Like, is this different than Madden?
Peter Rosenberg
But I just, I saw that earlier today. Anthony sent it to us. I'm like, didn't feel like it was that long ago. We were doing the picks and it was probably, Matthew Stafford was the quarterback at the time for the Lions and he backed him up in Detroit and he was playing in a game, it was Thanksgiving and he was playing a game. I'm like, and now he's out of the league and now he's a quarterbacks coach. And it's just so weird that I mispronounce his name and now he might be the jets quarterback coach.
Alan Hahn
Isn't that crazy?
Peter Rosenberg
That was pre pandemic.
Alan Hahn
Oh, that's a long time ago.
Peter Rosenberg
That's the thing. We're coming up on the fifth anniversary, man.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Are you familiar with the work of David Blow? My God. Let's go to Mocha in Wayne. What up, Mocha?
Griffin
Hey, Peter, what's going on? First time ever, so I'm a little nervous. Oh, wow.
Peter Rosenberg
Don't be nervous.
Don LaGreca
Come on.
Alan Hahn
It's last call crew. We got you, buddy.
Peter Rosenberg
A bunch of hacks.
Griffin
Yeah. So you know back in 2022 when the Giants made the playoffs, so, you know, and you said they got blown out by the Eagles, and you're like, was it even worth it for the Giants to make it that far? You rather have, like, you know, lost around before to the Vikings, and now they actually got to experience the playoffs with the Commanders and, you know, actually got, like, a playoff victory. You know, Kurt, Andrew's on season, though. How do you feel? I mean, the Commanders kind of got smoked, like, even worse than the Giants did at the time.
Alan Hahn
No, no.
Peter Rosenberg
Mocha.
Alan Hahn
Mocha, I love you. We appreciate you calling.
Peter Rosenberg
Yes.
Alan Hahn
Mocha. The giants were down 28 nothing at halftime. The Giants put up a garbage touchdown in the third quarter.
Peter Rosenberg
The turning point was the coin toss.
Alan Hahn
So listen, I'm happy to fight this out with anyone because I got a lot of it on Twitter. A lot of people saying, oh, my God, look at you. Your team was blown out. It's. I get it. We can all pretend because, like, we saw the final score and it looks bad. They got over 50 points, for God's sake. We can all pretend that the Commanders were just blown out of the building from the second the game started. The problem is it's disingenuous. If you watched the football game, you were still paying attention and excited about what could be an exciting end. Don. What? At least until late in the third quarter.
Peter Rosenberg
But I.
Alan Hahn
It's just not a fair comp.
Peter Rosenberg
It's silly.
Alan Hahn
It's silly.
Peter Rosenberg
First of all, it's the championship game. So the kid wins two playoff games on the road, one against the best.
Alan Hahn
Team, potentially the conference.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. And they go toe to toe for a while. Ended up being a blowout. Yes. If you didn't watch the game, you saw the final score, it looks like a blowout. The Giants didn't belong on the same field at all with Philadelphia. And that proved to be true because then the next game they played on opening day in 2023, they lost to the Cowboys 40 to nothing and never got anything going since. But there's. I never understood that, oh, I'd rather lose to Minnesota in the first week. I had no problem with them going to the second round. I'm not Throwing away playoff victories. The reason it didn't age well is because maybe if they had gotten blown out the week before by Minnesota or didn't make the playoffs at all, they would have never given a contract to Daniel Jones and maybe they would have found a better quarterback and not be in the hole they're in. That's a viable conversation, right? But to compare, you know, no matter what happens to Washington, is there ever going to be anything that happens to him? Even if Jaden Daniels turns out to be a flash in the pan, even if this team doesn't make the playoffs next year, will any of it, any of it be connected to. Boy, well, if we didn't make that run to the championship game, none of this would have happened.
Alan Hahn
No, you never. And Don made the point you don't throw away playoff wins. Hunter, I totally get that, too. You certainly don't throw away championship game appearances. Those don't grow on trees. I haven't had one since 1991. Let's go to Dave in Queens. What's up, Dave?
Griffin
Guys, check this out. Peter. I have a thing for Don, but Peter, like, if. Imagine like a few years ago earlier, you had a son and you love Robert Griffin iii. You would have named your child Griffin. And then this guy Griffin is number one guy in your show. That's ironic. You know what I mean?
Peter Rosenberg
That was very well thought out. Good job.
Alan Hahn
You know, I didn't know where you were going. I thought you were just gonna make a joke about Jaden. But no, that had. That had legs. All right, what else you got?
Griffin
No, I respect all names. God bless your daughter and. But it would have been ironic he had a son, Griffin and Don. This is for Don. Don, you know you hate the Eagles. I know. And you, you said the Chiefs had no chance. And I don't like either team either. Are you gonna put a bet on the. Put a big bet. Put a thousand. Put a I don't be in your pocket, but put 500 on the Eagles, you know, because you said they got no chance the Chiefs. And you know, you might have to throw down. Don, come on. And I want to say I saw the tank walk. Can you comment on the tank walk? Frank the Tank. And I appreciate you guys. I'll see you at Lynn, Peter.
Alan Hahn
All right, Dave, see you there.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, Frank is going to be on the show tomorrow at 3:45, correct? Anthony?
Alan Hahn
Yes. 3:4.
Peter Rosenberg
And we're going to promote that which is going to be launched tomorrow, I guess Friday. Right. So I don't know where he saw it, he probably saw that I did do the walk, but I think they're going to launch it on the barstool platform on Friday and he's going to come on at 3:45 tomorrow to promote that. So thank you for looking out for that. I said the Chiefs could be had, but obviously right now, the Chiefs. I don't see Philadelphia winning this game. I don't. I'm not rooting for Philadelphia. Obviously I'm not going to put any kind of bet on it, but I don't see Philadelphia. If I'm going to bet anybody, it's going to be the Chiefs because I just don't see Philadelphia winning this game because we'll break it down all next week, Peter, but when you got the better quarterback of the better coach, that's, that's pretty good stuff to be able to have on your side. You know, I know it's tough to win three in a row. I just don't see Philadelphia winning this game. And what's the point spread? A point and a half.
Alan Hahn
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
So you're basically picking a winner. So if I'm laying any money down, it'll be on the Chiefs, but I just want to get this whole thing with.
Alan Hahn
Yeah, exactly. You just want to do it and go to bed. 1-800-919-3776. Got another couple callers, including Eric the fraud Eagles fan who wants to state his case. Joe wants to call me out of my list, but we got a couple lines lines open if you want to get in right now to discuss it all. We'll get to it. Allen will be back with us, of course. He's on Knicks coverage tonight on msg. And guys, I got to talk to you about something important. All right, how about this, baseball fans, the ultimate hat experience is here because Lids is opening a new store. All right. And you're invited to the grand opening celebration this weekend. Get your game face on and customize your own hat featuring your favorite player's autograph, your name, maybe your own design. I've done this before, guys. It is so cool. You can put whatever you want on the hat. Alright, so it's, you could have yourself an official Yankee cap, met cap, whatever it is, and then put your design customized right there on there. Stop by this Friday between noon and 2pm for a chance to win $150 gift card and hang out with me. I'm going to be there hanging at the store. I think I get there close to 1 o'clock, come through and hang. All right. Plus this Saturday between 10am and 11, you can meet the former Yankee Nick Swisher, who's gonna be in the house. It's all happening Friday and Saturday at lids on 42nd street in times Square. All right, get in the game and make it a day to remember.

Alan Hahn
There he is.
Don LaGreca
Take you home and top of the hour, you'll get Nick's pregame.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, boy. Did you say boy?
Alan Hahn
Did you miss a Richard gem again?
Don LaGreca
I heard we had the holy trinity of. Of the calls.
Alan Hahn
Not only that, though, first of all, Richard again immediately just starts addressing you. Okay. Has to when you're not here. But also we're gonna play you a drop of him trying to pronounce the name of the now Houston former Celtic head coach.
Griffin
Is that his name? Utoko.
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don LaGreca
I mean, if you're not used to saying it, it is new. It's different. It's not. It's not Giannis Atenokumpo. But it. You know, IME Udoka. Can. Can. Can frustrate.
Alan Hahn
You got both wrong. That's what made. That's what I liked. That's what I liked.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, but he tried. He gave it an effort, but it.
Peter Rosenberg
Was total lack of confidence that made you feel like at least wasn't arrogant about it.
Don LaGreca
All right, how? Like I said, 7:00 we get Nick's pregame Pat O'Keefe vehicle, right? Pat O'Keefe usually on that call, like you dream about. We love Paddle Keefe. The jets, according to Tom Pelissero, have found their new defensive coordinator. It will be Steve Wilkes.
Alan Hahn
You know what?
Don LaGreca
According to sources and everything else, Wilkes was out of the league all last season. But, you know, he has kind of bounced around. He's been a DC for different teams, including the Niners. Most recently, he's been a head coach. And one thing to keep in mind too, is Aaron Glenn did say that while he was defensive coordinator in Detroit, he's learned from other coaches who have said you can't do both. So he's not going to fathom the defense. That's why bringing in an experienced coordinator is an important thing here and also somebody you get along with. So Steve Wilkes, a lot of experience. Now we remember, we said how much experience you're going to have on his staff. Well, Wilkes is experienced, so there's, there's, there's one hire.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm sorry, we had Adam Schefter on last week and my concern for him is that a lot of one and dones recently, he was the head coach in Arizona one year fired, one year as the defensive coordinator in Cleveland, gone. Then he went to Missouri after a year off in 2020. Defensive coordinator there, gone after one year, gone after one year in Carolina, 2022 goes to the super bowl as the D coordinator in San Francisco, but done after the year. And then as you said, he volunteered for the Charlotte 49ers last year. So a lot of one and dones. But Adam Schefter said, yeah, but look at a lot of those organizations. Carolina, Arizona, Cleveland, they go through coaches like water. But the San Francisco one bothers me. You go to it so good. He went to it. He went to the super bowl as a defensive coordinator, but he's done so. But he's 55. He's got head coaching experience, both as an interim in Carolina and as a full head coach in Arizona. No success, but at least he's done it. So that could be a nice sounding board, as you said, with play calls. So he's going with somebody he's very comfortable with.
Alan Hahn
Not to mention, Wilkes did a hell of a job with security for the Jerry Springer show, if you recall.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't recall.
Don LaGreca
I don't.
Alan Hahn
No, he didn't. Steve Wilko, you don't.
Peter Rosenberg
I didn't know that. I wasn't a Springer guy. No.
Don LaGreca
Miss that.
Alan Hahn
That's from my college. Yeah. This is a classic example of generation gap. Because Springer was so big when I was in college and Steve Wilkos went from being the security for Springer to then having to then having his own show.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Don LaGreca
Yeah. Never that. That.
Alan Hahn
None of this hit me. None of this hits with you guys at all, huh?
Peter Rosenberg
Wow.
Don LaGreca
I watched Springer. No, I watched Springer. It wasn't like. You don't remember to me.
Alan Hahn
You don't remember the ball bald security guy who looks like Cal Ripken on steroids.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, that's Steve Walker. Vaguely. Vaguely. You know, like, like I said, I used to. I watch shows. I don't collect the trading cards of the people that are on the shows. So I don't really know everything about those people. I just kind of watch shows.
Griffin
You just know too much stuff, Peter. You know too much stuff.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, that's what it is again.
Alan Hahn
I gotta put away my Steve Wilkins trading cards now. I.
Don LaGreca
It's gonna disappear. You're just gonna see man, you got kids, you're gonna. Once you have kids, all this ancillary stuff just, it's gone. Slips out of your brain. It's gone. One thing to keep in mind though, the Niners thing, because Shefty did talk about this and I actually, you know, wanted to remind myself of what went down. They, they felt Wilkes wasn't the right fit right what the way what they wanted. Wilks was very kind of hands on and very like this is my defense. And you know there were some, there were some issues but I like they say that the wasn't a, it wasn't animosity in the decision. It was just they knew when that season was going to end, they already knew it, that he was going to move on, that he wasn't the right fit for their coaching staff. So.
Peter Rosenberg
But there's a lot of other one and dones and yep, there was not a job for him after that. So okay, he wasn't a fit in San Francisco, but he was good enough to get him to the super bowl as the D coordinator and no other job. He had to leave the NFL. So again I, we go over these things with a fine tooth comb because that's what we do. I mean that's part of so it doesn't do a lot for me. But for a young head coach to have a 55 year old guy that's been around a lot helping you, if he feels comfortable with that then, then we have to feel comfortable with it, I guess.
Don LaGreca
Well, offensive coordinator I think we can all agree was probably the bigger one we're you know, we're waiting for to see what happens there. And I think that's one that you know is really to me that'll make the bigger headline. And the problem is this is that while Wilkes has a lot of experience and he's been a head coach and all this stuff, there's no offensive coordinator candidates out there that you're going to bring in that have that. And so you're going to have somebody running an offense that more than likely is not going to have a ton of experience as a coordinator. And that is again more what all we're all we're all wondering about, because offense continues to be the biggest question.
Alan Hahn
It's.
Don LaGreca
It's who's the quarterback and who's running the offense. And that is something that I think when that is announced, that's the bigger reaction, in my opinion, because we've seen the names that were kicked around, but nothing has happened so far. And there is actually the. The latest. All right.
Griffin
All right.
Don LaGreca
So they've brought in some other offensive coaches, but they haven't had more than, I think, one or two interviews when it comes to coordinators, so we'll see where it goes. But at least we have the defensive coordinate in place. And quarterback continues to be the biggest question. Did you guys see before? We only have a minute here. So, Don, I know this is something near and dear to your heart. So the Utah hockey team, The Utah Hockey team Club, you know, again, the. The former Arizona Coyotes, they were trying to come up with a name they're not allowed to use. Yeti. So now that they can't use Yeti, they have three finalists. Would you like to hear them?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, go ahead. This is a good.
Don LaGreca
Okay, so one is Mammoth and the other is Wasach. And then the last is. Just stick with Utah Hockey Club.
Peter Rosenberg
Wasach. Wasatch, which is a mountain range, apparently. I. I think that. I think they want Mammoth, and so they just put something abhorrent in there so that Mammoth wins, because why would anybody want that?
Don LaGreca
I actually think Wasach is way better than Mammoth.
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know what a Wasach is. It's hard to say.
Alan Hahn
It's the mountain range. And then they can use the Yeti as the logo.
Peter Rosenberg
Give me a. Will you please just lose every game you play? Do me a favor and just lose every game you play.
Don LaGreca
How about just go hockey club? It sounds kind of unique, right? Who needs a nickname? What? A Nick. What's a nickname these days? Who cares?
Peter Rosenberg
Lose every time they drop the puck.
Don LaGreca
