You didn't hear how fast they turned that around. A new. A new hour, a new intro.
Don LaGreca
Jacob's on top of his game.
Peter Rosenberg
So Jacob, now you're in the making. Quick turnaround. Like turning the intro into a rejoin.

He's paying attention.
Don LaGreca
Look at this guy.
Peter Rosenberg
Look at this guy. Mike Brown. I gotta fight with him more often. He's been on fire ever since. Like Bruce Springsteen. Wow. It is Don Han and Rosenberg. The big six o'clock hour like you dream about. Now normally we'd be off at 6:30 for a Ranger home vehicle. However, not tonight because good old TNT has coverage as well and that means it's a 7:30 puck drop. So you'll get your pregame coverage right here at 7:00 followed by the game at 7:30. Don, your duties tonight, pre and post. Well, that's like you dream about. When's your next game? You're calling?
Don LaGreca
I'll be in Ottawa Saturday. Oh, dream for a 12:30 face off and then 6:00 Sunday at home against Columbus.
Peter Rosenberg
So take us through that. Friday night you fly out.
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
So Friday night you fly out with the team or.
Don LaGreca
No, no, it's after the show.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, that's right. I knew that already. So you're running out of the show. After the show on Friday night you'll wake up in Ottawa probably bright and early. Yeah.
Don LaGreca
Right to the game. Do the game, come back with a team.
Peter Rosenberg
Come back.
Don LaGreca
You should get home At a decent hour.
Peter Rosenberg
You'll get dinner at home, get a.
Don LaGreca
Meal at home or go out to dinner or something. I was in such a good mood today. I'm going to Ottawa later and then.
Peter Rosenberg
No memory of that. No memory of that. And then Sunday turn around and head to the city for a big 6:00 matchup.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, but maybe sleep in a little bit.
Peter Rosenberg
Look at that. Enjoy yourself. Why not?
Don LaGreca
It's some big games. Ottawa, Columbus, all bunched up for a playoffs. But Rangers are in the playoffs right now. The season ended today.
Peter Rosenberg
They're in.
Don LaGreca
They would be in. But 21 games still left to go on the Caps tonight. Like I said, the back to backs this weekend. They've got the third toughest schedule the rest of the way. The Rangers. How about that, Mikey?
Peter Rosenberg
I got a How about that? My aunt quite a text from Ballard.
Don LaGreca
A few minutes ago over there.
Peter Rosenberg
He said I'm grossed out by all the fatalistic talk about these 2025 Knicks that somehow this is a building year and they don't have the mix to win at all. I'm not just talking about the media. It's my Knicks friends. It's all over. Titles aren't one in March. Have the Cavs play their best ball this year? Undoubtedly yes. Have the Knicks? No. We've seen flashes. But no. And yet it doesn't matter because it's freaking march. These 82 games are about making the playoffs. Once that happens, the Knicks, Cavs, Celtics and Everybody else is 0 and 0. New season. Then he says Knicks are going to win it all.
Don LaGreca
Oh God.
Peter Rosenberg
But he, he.
Don LaGreca
That's the first. That is really the first time I can honestly say I get what Michael is saying. No, no, come on, man. I. The eternal optimist, whatever. I. I'm sorry, they're not. Anything's possible, right? We've seen crazier things happen, I guess. But right now, assessing the New York Knicks, the feeling is they're not ready for primetime just yet. Now they got the fourth best record in the NBA, but unfortunately the defending champions are ahead of them.
Peter Rosenberg
Yep.
Don LaGreca
And will likely be their second round matchup. And listen, maybe Cleveland's fugazi. But they might win 70 games. So they have to be respected. So that's a tough hill to climb. And oh by the way against the other three best teams in the league, Oklahoma City, Boston, Cleveland, oh and seven. So.
Peter Rosenberg
But to balance point.
Don LaGreca
But it's between. I didn't have a point. No, but he's optimistic. But it's baseless. It's baseless other than, oh, we all start 0 and 0. Anything is possible. Stranger things have happened. Did you not see the Miracle on Ice? Did you not See Super Bowl 3? Did you not see how we handled ourselves in the Revolutionary War? When you go in there, you got nothing. He's got nothing. I love him. I can't consider him a friend. We've only seen each other once or twice. But he has a baseless point. Admit that to me. There's no basis in fact. It's just a bunch of cliches that he sewed together.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, no. As an optimistic. No, no. I'm going to give him one part of it. What is that there is a bit of a fatalistic attitude from some Knicks fans. And I will say it's a little bit early to be like even a loss like yesterday to get overly down in the moment like this. This is a good team. They are. They are not. They are just now getting fully healthy and now they're without cat. And, you know, we'll see what happens with that when we get. But you don't know that. They could not be playing their best ball in April or May.
Don LaGreca
But there's two different things being said here. I don't think it's fatalistic to say I don't believe we're good enough to win a champion.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay, so that's the second party said I completely disagree with. They're not winning the championship this year. I'd be.
Don LaGreca
But yeah, if you're ready to jump off a ledge. We opened the show with this because they lost to the Golden State warriors last night. You had no cat. Golden State's good. They're hot right now. Yeah, it's disappointing you lost the game. It's probably a game you should have won, but I wouldn't get crazy about it. That I agree with. There might be some Nick fans out there say, see, last night's a perfect example why we're not winning a championship. No, last night is not the example. The example has been basically the entire season of, you're very good. You're heading in the right direction. It's just a little too soon now. God forbid, Tatum can get hurt. Changes the perspective. Would I say they've got zero chance to beat the Celtics in the best of seven series? I wouldn't say zero. Would I be shocked if they won? Yes, I would. Not because of the Knicks, but because I have to have respect for the defending champions. And those three losses against them are pretty disturbing.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, I agree. Also disturbing. Richard's been on hold for three hours.
Don LaGreca
After being on hold the entire show yesterday. We never got to him. So I apologize. Right here.
Peter Rosenberg
That's, that's Alan's not. Not a fan, I guess.
Caller
Don. Peter, the greatest athletic event, accomplishment I've ever seen. Jim Abbott, to pitch in the major leagues with one hand. That is unbelievable.
Don LaGreca
To pitcher, no hitter.
Caller
Whatever he did was unbelievable. He was in the league for 12 years. Second greatest athletic achievement. Monique Davis, the girl that was striking out all the boys in the Little League about 12 years ago. She's at Columbia now. She's going for a master's in sports administration.
Peter Rosenberg
What about Zach? What about Zach Gowen who wrestled in WWE with one leg? I mean, that's pretty incredible, too.
Caller
Yeah, of course. And fellas, by the way, the greatest venue to watch a sporting event in New York was the old, old Yankee Stadium football games, the Giant games there right before 72. When they closed the stadium, that was a place to be for the New York Giants football game.
Don LaGreca
Can I ask you, what were the sight lines like? I guess they went from, what, first to the third, like across that way. How did they put together?
Caller
We had seats low in the left field, bleaches. So I don't remember sight lines, but it was just fun. Real good. What I do remember were the wheelchair people. All the wheelchair people, handicapped sat on the field toward the back, you know, they were on the field. They didn't sit in the stands. Now, the greatest venue I ever went to in New Jersey, Don. 1965, Asbury Park Convention Center. I went to a wrestling match there. My father took me. Bruno Sammartino, Cowboy.
Peter Rosenberg
There we go.
Caller
That was unbelievable, Peter. Unbelievable. Is it still here, Don? The Convention center in Asbury Park?
Don LaGreca
I don't think, not, not you are talking about. I think they redid it. I don't know that 100%. I'll look that up.
Caller
I learned how to swim at the Monte Carlo pool there in 1963. It was the largest outdoor saltwater pool. Fellas, you know, yesterday, the Knicks, they're not going to beat Golden State. Golden State's got three guys who are going to be in the hall of Fame. Now people are saying, oh, these guys are old. This and that. They're not that old. There have been old guys that have won championships. You can go back. Jason Kidd, Rasheed Wallace, Dennis Rodman, Kareem Havlicek, Jerry Lucas. All these guys were Oscar Robertson, Bill Russell. They all won championships at 35. These three 35 year old guys on Miami, they're primed. 35 is like years ago. 31, 32. They keep their bodies in shape and as long as they don't get injured, fellas, these guys are a big, big team to win the championship. I got one last one for you, Don. You'll love this. 42 years ago, I worked at a dental office uptown and Mark Gastineau's mother in law was the office manager.
Don LaGreca
Okay.
Caller
So he used to come in a few times. You know how he met Lisa, his wife, his first wife. She went to the University of Alabama and Marty Lyons went. So Marty and Mark got out the same year in 79, I believe so. They were good friends and that's how she met him. And she used to bring the baby in Brittany all the time. But they were very nice. And Mark used to stop by once in a while. It was okay, I'll put it like.
Peter Rosenberg
That, but not great.
Caller
It was not overly great, but, you know, those were his solid days. 84, 85. That's when he was really becoming a big guy. So. Okay, fellas, always a pleasure.
Don LaGreca
Thank you. Just look it up because I know there's a convention center there. I just didn't know if they had redone it, but looking it up, Peter, it is the same convention center that opened way back in 1916 and it is still there. Like I said, I've been through it. I just didn't know the history well enough that they had redone it. But just looking, they've had concerts there between the 70s and 80s, like Allman Brothers, Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Korn, Marilyn Manson.
Peter Rosenberg
They didn't know Richard had been there though.
Caller
The more physical stuff you do in your mouth.
Don LaGreca
They're all good.
Caller
It is.
Don LaGreca
Oh wow.
Caller
There's a lot of women out there that want you.
Peter Rosenberg
Alright.
Don LaGreca
In the 2000s, Bob Dylan played.
Peter Rosenberg
Really?
Don LaGreca
Yeah. So pretty good. That's.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you see the Dylan movie yet?
Don LaGreca
I want it so badly. They filmed a lot of it in Cape May, New Jersey. I gotta see. I just. That's. It's a tough one, I think. It's a really long movie, so it's gotta be like a date night with Nancy. We're not gonna take the kids to see it.
Peter Rosenberg
I liked. I'd like to see it. I haven't seen it yet.
Don LaGreca
I really do want to see.
Peter Rosenberg
Supposedly Timothee Chalamet is tremendous in it.
Don LaGreca
And Ed Norton's very good as Pete Seeger.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Ryan in Port Jeff. Hey, Ryan.
Caller
Hey, what's going on, boys?
Don LaGreca
How you doing?
Peter Rosenberg
What up, baby?
Caller
Hey. So really excited to get to spend the evening with you guys at the Irish exit. I already put the PTO request in.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go. There you go.
Caller
And I got a St. John's question for you. So, you know, obviously been a good season for them so far, but where would you say in the NCAA tournament they have to finish for it to be like kind of a buste. And I'm thinking, you know, if they lose in the Sweet 16 or the Elite Eight, you might say, oh, this was a failure and then they probably have to rebuild. So curious to get your thoughts on that even with Alan gone. And I'll just tell you, once Richard brings out the mark as no mother in law story. I mean, forget it. Forget about it.
Peter Rosenberg
You were in an impossible spot here, Ryan. But it's a good question. I'm hanging up with you because your phone's clicking in annoying way. But when you've had a season like this where you could potentially end the season as a top five team in the country, the fact of the matter is you're going to feel it's a disappointment. Don, if you don't make the Final Four because you're good enough to do it now, does that make it legitimately a disappointment? No. The demarcation of confirmed disappointment is you don't make it to the second weekend. If they were to lose on if they play Thursday of the tournament, lose on Saturday, that is a disappointment. If they don't go to the sweet 16 and lose in a war in the sweet 16.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
You're not crying about it.
Don LaGreca
I need to know what it looks like.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don LaGreca
Because I don't know what bracket they're going to be in. I don't know what seed they're going to be in. Obviously, if they're a 5 seed, it could be difficult to get out of the first round depending on who you're matching up with. Because you can't get around the fact that their schedule a little bit easier than some of the other blue but bloods around the league. But six is sixth in the nation is very. It's big time. They've had an amazing year.
Peter Rosenberg
Right. So at that point you're allowed to have high expectations.
Don LaGreca
So looking at it, I would say they should be at least a 4, if not a 3 unless they completely blow in the Big east tournament. That I can't say I'd be disappointed if they got ousted in the sweet 16. Now if they get a favorable matchup and get blown out by 20, I might not feel that way. But if they get matched up with a team and they're a dog in the sweet 16 and they play competitive lose on a last second shot.
Peter Rosenberg
It is what it is.
Don LaGreca
I can't kill it. When was the last time they were in the Sweet 16? And if they get to the Elite Eight games, listen, you'll be disappointed. Disappointed that you didn't win the whole thing. But Final Four bust for this team, that's. That's way too hot.
Peter Rosenberg
They're going to feel that way. Of course the play will feel that way. They'll feel that way. But in reality, if you're a fan, they play hard games in the second weekend. I don't think you have anything to feel bad about. God, that'll be so fun. If there's a real team to pull for in this tournament. Let's go to Larry in West Orange. Hey, lad.
Caller
Hey, guys. I was calling about the earlier conversation. I grew up in the 60s when the Giants and the Yankees at the end of 60s early 70s were terrible teams.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Caller
And the thing I always look for is that my team start to build the right way. I actually think it was a smart thing not replacing the coach and the GM because they're going to have a.
Don LaGreca
Horrible season next year.
Caller
Why do I want to saddle the next coach with that?
Alan Hahn
Right.
Caller
So I'd like them just to pick the best player they possibly can because that's how you built the good Giant.
Don LaGreca
Teams back in the day and work.
Caller
To get the team better. And if we find a quarterback next year, we find the quarterback next year, you know, and I don't have to win Super Bowls.
Don LaGreca
I just have to have a good team. I just want to go in the right direction. But here's. I agree with most of what you said. The one thing I'll push back about agreeing to bring back Shane and Dable because you're going to have a horrible season anyway. Your owner said in the same breath as we're bringing Shane and Dable back that I'm not going to tolerate another season like last year. So you're happy you brought them back because they're going to have a miserable season. It sounds like if they have another miserable season, they're going to be gone. And I'd be like, why didn't you do it a year earlier? Why did you wait the year? That's why I said extend them. If you believe in them and you believe they're the right guys, Peter, then why wouldn't you extend them so there isn't a lame duck year if they only win three games. Next season. If they side to go with a young quarterback and it's a tough schedule, why put the expectations on? You better win. Well, you better win with a young quarterback and you better win with that kind of a schedule. Aren't you kind of setting yourself up for failure? But if I've got them locked in, I might disagree with it. I might not think it's the right move to keep them, but it sounds like they're half pregnant. We're bringing them back, but we might bang them next year because they only win four games. They start from scratch again. And God forbid you do that after drafting a young quarterback and then saddle that young quarterback with another regime in his second year. How ridiculous is that? So if you're going to bring them back, show some confidence in bringing them back. It's only like a partial movie will bring him back. Then that means in 26, they're going to be in their last season. Are you really going to bring. You're going to extend them after a bad year, right? Might have extended them now and just say, I believe in these guys.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no. The fact is, this year's it's. We're extending the sample size. We're going to see where we're at. Which is one of the frustrations with this team. It never feels like they're decidedly doing.
Don LaGreca
Anything because it feels like, well, I'm. I got rid of Judge after two years. I got rid of the previous two coaches, McAdoo, Sherman, after two years. So I can't do it again. Well, that's no reason to keep somebody.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, we used to. That was. That's a classic Don and Michael fight right there. You want to hear Don and Michael fight? Well, go back to the days when Michael would go. You can't get rid of them because you've been through X amount of regimes and Don's argument of. So you're just going to keep running them back if they're terrible just because you're too stubborn to do it again.
Don LaGreca
Imagine if you married Natalie. I did, because, you know, I got to. I just can't keep going through different women. I've got to settle down at some point. That's no reason to marry somebody. You marry somebody because you fall in love and you think that's the person you can spend the rest of your life with. Not while I've had my last six relationships ended poorly. I've got to do something here. I got to get married. I'm telling you, that's a recipe for disaster. Same thing with marrying Coaching general manager. Well, God, am I going to fire another coach early in his regime? Am I going to go through another general manager quickly? That. That's no way to run a bid. I don't care how embarrassed you are at having to continue to fire people. Get it right.
Peter Rosenberg
I totally. We are on the same page, by the way. Got a phone line open here if you want to get in. 1-800-919-3776. As you can tell, we're. We're taking everything. Whatever the conversation is, we're here to have it. Let's go to Lang, who wants to talk. Nick's. What's up, Lang?
Caller
Yeah, I'm back. You know, Tibbs, after the game last night, said that they lacked energy, and I was thinking about that more specifically, I think they lacked physicality. And when you look at last year's team and the greediness and their identity, I gotta think that they were gonna pull that out. I think back to the 50, 50 balls. If you recall, the shot that sealed the deal for the Knicks was on an offensive rebound where Jimmy Butler gave Mikhail Bridges a bit of a shove, little forearm on the baseline. Mikhail lost his balance, threw the ball back in, bounce right, and then got kicked out to Curry for three. And that kind of sealed the deal. And I just, I think kids can't say, you know, we were soft, but I think they were soft. And there's been a lot of games this season, right? Some of them we were on the, on, on, on the win column with. But it could have easily went the other way, where this team has lacked physicality. When you got guys like Santos, right, who no one knows, kind of reminds me of Anderson, Dara Howe back in the day on the Cavs, who's dunking on your home court in front of your home fans and screaming, and you got Draymond Green, who's running up and down, you got Stephen Curry, who's dancing and prancing and doing all these little things on your home court and you don't get upset. That's a little insulting to us Knick fans for the Knick players to do that. So I really hope they respond and they gain some physicality that day that they had last year with guys like Randle and with, with the guys they had on, on last year's team.
Don LaGreca
Well, but they, I, I'm not saying that this was the logic of the trade, but what you saw by making that deal, they traded defense and toughness for offense, and, and the offense is much better. It's elite. But it did come at the expense of that toughness.
Peter Rosenberg
So you kind of all knew. We all knew that was happening.
Don LaGreca
Right. And. But a lot of it had to do with Cat.
Peter Rosenberg
They.
Don LaGreca
That Switzer wasn't tough. It wasn't going to play any defense. Well, he wasn't in the lineup last night. You came. Blame. Blame him.
Peter Rosenberg
But you got it. You do have to hope that if Mitch continues to play, you will see an increase in true. In toughness, at least some level of physical play.
Don LaGreca
You can't blame the lack of defense on a team that lost its best defender. Now he's back, and I think he played 25 minutes last night, if I'm not mistaken. But he's not all the way.
Peter Rosenberg
No. You know, he's. You're not seeing the same production.
Don LaGreca
Those games are going to happen. That's why I said, all right. It's not. Technically, it's not the dog days, it's the stretch run. But the Knicks know what they are. They're the fourth best team in the NBA. But unfortunately, that's only good enough for third best in the conference. Is any of that going to change? Is anything going to happen, Peter, in a positive way over the final 21 games that's going to change your opinion that they're the third best team in the conference?
Peter Rosenberg
No, no. Either direction.
Don LaGreca
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
That. That's.
Caller
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
I don't think. I don't think it'd be negative enough for them to fall out of three. You don't think they know that?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, no. I think this is where they're at. Let's go to the good old Spike in St. Pete. Hey, Spike. Hey.
Spike
How's my beautiful. I'm adopting your daughter, Peter. I can't get enough of those pictures. That's an Ashkenazi and a Sepharda combination, right?
Peter Rosenberg
That is correct.
Spike
That baby. I'm adopting her, so. Too bad she's got Uncle Spike now. I can't get it. I can't. I gotta ask you this. I'll talk basketball in a quick second.
Peter Rosenberg
Go ahead.
Spike
The four. The four grandparents. There's a Yiddish word, don, called kfell. How bad? How. What's the quell mean?
Peter Rosenberg
There's a lot of quelling about this little girl, I'll tell you that. By the way, I managed to say kfell on the Elimination Chamber post show the other day. Spike, I can fit kfelling in wherever, but my mom is, I think, the cutest because my mom and I never used to FaceTime and now we only FaceTime because she always wants to see Maya.
Caller
She doesn't.
Spike
She don't want to see your mug. And your beautiful wife sent me a very nice reply. I wrote her a nice little note. I was very touched by it. So here we go with the basketball. This baby's changed your life upside down. You're never going to stop smiling. She'll always be a little girl. The Nicks are away. What a segue. The Nicks are quite a ways away, but not that far away. So I'm contradicting myself. The problem is that, you know, they've lost a little bit of that toughness. I think the problem, it's unfair. Mikhail Bridges was great on Phoenix, and we had a big load to carry in Brooklyn. He was miscast, so to speak. And he's a little. You know what he doesn't have? He doesn't. He's six, seven, but he's skinny. He doesn't have the beef to guard the 6, 6, 6, 7, 68 guy who's 260, but we'll see what happens. But then Josh Hart is hurt. No question about it. But they've given us a lot so far, and we'll see where it goes. And I'll tell you, the Lakers, they're going to investigate that trade one day. And if my old pal David Stern was still alive, he might not allow that deal. Something will come out in the laundry. But I love watching greatness, and I love watching LeBron James. He's beaten Father Time, boys. He's beaten up.
Peter Rosenberg
No, Spike, you're 100% right. And just like Don and I, as you. I'm sure you remember, just as Don and I did not care about the, quote, greatness of the Chiefs because we'd had enough of it already. I don't care if. I don't care if you're a Celtics fan. I don't care if you're a Knicks fan. Don. I'm all in to watch the greatness of seeing Luka and LeBron together. That's interesting. That's.
Don LaGreca
This is.
Peter Rosenberg
This is a new, fascinating storyline. And to see if all of a sudden it can go from. I don't want to say LeBron's been mailing it in any way. You look at the stats LeBron's been putting up the last year, Don, they mirror his statistics in Miami. That's how frigging good this guy is.
Don LaGreca
No, it's amazing.
Peter Rosenberg
But you also got the sense over the last couple of years, they were kind of toiling they'd get near the, you know, they'd get near the top six, whatever. It wasn't special. If they can really gel the way they have been so far. And you talk about this could become a real thing, this Luca and LeBron, by the way, you think LeBron's going to be rushing out the door if they get along great and Luke is balling out? No, of course I don't think he'll be rushing out.
Don LaGreca
And with Bronnie on the team.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. And as Bronnie gets better, I mean, if Bronnie continues to evolve, hopefully he does in the D league. This is a. I think it's a really fun piece of the LeBron story that none of us saw coming.
Don LaGreca
But a lot of people are upset by it because there is that conspiracy theory. This is what the NBA wanted all along. Get the Lakers back up on top. LeBron.
Peter Rosenberg
What's the conspiracy? Who. Who actually engineered the conspiracy on the Dallas end?
Don LaGreca
Well, just the engineering of. Would David Stern have nixed this deal?
Peter Rosenberg
But by the way, that's not necessarily right. Maybe there's a chance he would have nixed the deal. But is it right for the commissioner to nix a deal like that? If the parties want to do it.
Don LaGreca
It'S been done before.
Peter Rosenberg
But is that right, Nixon? On what. On what grounds? If they wanted it. But, I mean, no one put a gun to the Maverick's head.
Don LaGreca
No, but sometimes you step in and you go, you know, this isn't. This isn't fair what's going on here.
Peter Rosenberg
But by the way, it's worse.
Don LaGreca
But I do think there was logic to Dallas. If Dallas didn't believe he was going.
Peter Rosenberg
To age well, or if Kyrie liked the idea of Anthony Davis as his running partner more than Luka.
Don LaGreca
Like I said yesterday, if there is a big conspiracy to prop up the Lakers and Dallas Mavericks were in on it, then expect the Dallas Mavericks to get the first pick in the draft. That'd be only fair, right? If you're orchestrating this whole thing and making Dallas give up a great player for practically, I wouldn't say Anthony Davis is nothing but for something that didn't work. And then Davis gets hurt and then Kyrie gets hurt. If it's all orchestrate, as you like to say, then Cooper Flag is going to be in doubt.

I mean, there was a time when the instrumental for this would have been impossible, but now in the era of stems, see Don, now there's this DJ equipment and all kinds of audio equipment where you can easily pull the stems of songs. It's like insane. Like that's a biggie record of which there was never an instrumental released. There wasn't a Ready to Die instrumental album. But now with the stems you can just pull out the vocals. It's insane.
Don LaGreca
Life has gotten a lot easier in every way, shape or form, right? Even with movies. When you look at them, you might not like the movie, but like 2001 A Space Odyssey is a brilliant cinematic movie that was made in 1968. You could have thought it was made today. So with all the technology that we have, isn't it kind of a cheat code? Same thing with music. You think of music that was made with reel to reel machines and having to come up creative ways to make sounds. Not some computer that's able to generate the exact same sound and just drop it in. It just makes music easier. So it's kind of like a cheat code and think about what they had to do 30, 40, 50 years ago to achieve the sounds that they got. I know I'm not trying to take any of the obviously it takes talent to do it today. The creativity of coming up with wanting that sound. But the way you can achieve it is so much easier than it was back in the day.
Peter Rosenberg
So many things to discuss. And by the way, in just an hour and a half, my debut episode of doing play by play on. On tv.
Don LaGreca
That's cool.
Peter Rosenberg
WWE Evolve on Tubi. I will say, Don, the biggest challenge, and I taped this episode a little while ago. The biggest challenge of doing this job, in addition to the fact that I'd never done play by play in real life, you just don't pretend play by play is that the talent's all new. So it's not like I'm showing up and getting to call matches with, you know, Randy Orton and, you know, Bianca Belair.
Don LaGreca
Right, exactly.
Peter Rosenberg
These are people that I just learned about, like, I'm doing. I have to do research on who all of them are. Yeah, it's hard, man.
Don LaGreca
It's very difficult. And I wish, obviously, you've done it. So good luck.
Peter Rosenberg
I still need good luck. I still haven't seen how it sounds.
Don LaGreca
You got to see how it's gonna come out. So that should be great. And for people that might be like, what's tubi? I just know I have a fire.
Peter Rosenberg
Stick that's on there. Right.
Don LaGreca
So what I'll do is I'll search the program when you get to the homepage of the fire stick rather than looking for two, because then it'll come up and you'll go, oh, I didn't realize I had this.
Peter Rosenberg
Correct.
Don LaGreca
So don't just look. I don't have that app. You do and probably don't have.
Peter Rosenberg
You probably do. And sometimes even if you don't, if you go search for the show, it'll then be like, do you want to download the app? Because this is where it is, and Tubi is free. So it has a lot of movies, a lot of shows that have. So basically, you know what it's called? It's television. They have shows that have commercials, but it's all free. They have movies that are real movies, but they have commercials.
Don LaGreca
There's a lot of things. My brother turned me on to a movie that I wanted to see, so I wanted to search for it. So that's what I did. And I went to the fire stick and it didn't have it, but I stumbled on the tubi and found something I wanted to watch, and I didn't even know I had it.
Peter Rosenberg
There it is.
Don LaGreca
I don't think you even have to download it in some of the. No, no.
Peter Rosenberg
It's built into something.
Don LaGreca
It's built into a lot of them. And then the program will come up. As you said, it's not attractive to a lot of people because it's got the commercial. So it's not like watching a TV show on Hulu because it'll be interrupted by commercials.
Peter Rosenberg
Although these days.
Don LaGreca
But if this was on, you know, if this was on ABC tonight, it would be a different commercial.
Peter Rosenberg
By the way, this is. And for the record, at this point, I have so many apps, I feel like half of them, I have commercials in my apps. I don't. I don't have the best because, like, I get my Netflix comes with Natalie's T Mobile. I think it has commercials. I'm not going to pay for the one when we already get it for free. My Hulu, I think, has commercials. I already deal with commercials on a couple apps. I don't. Guys, I still don't have premium YouTube, which, by the way, that seems like the most worthwhile1. The YouTube commercials can drive me insane when you just want to pull up a video and watch it. But anyways, it's tonight. It's on Tubi at 8:00. It's called WWE Evolve, and I'm lead play by play doing it with a gentleman named Robert Stone, who's a former wrestler and a talent on NXT who's really good. And there are honestly some pretty great young wrestlers on the show. So stoked to do it and have the opportunity. Let's talk to the people out there. David's been on hold with a Woodja Wednesday. What up, David?
Caller
How you doing, guys?
Peter Rosenberg
It's. It's really. It's really raining. It's really raining out there, huh?
Caller
You hear it?
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Every caller now I'm hearing it. Then my wife said she tried to take the dogs out and it's crazy out there.
Caller
It is wild out there. Everybody be careful. Anyway, I wanted to propose a question. I know you've been talking about, you know, you want to have a good team, you don't want to have a good team. So we and my friends have been arguing this back and forth. Let's say you have 25 years of a team. 25 years, you win one cup or one championship. You have 23 playoff appearances, three or four finals. The other one, you have three championships and basically 20 years of disaster. Which one do you like?
Peter Rosenberg
Wait, the first. Sorry. One of them is three or four championships and the other years are disaster. And the other one is what? One championship, but consistently good.
Caller
And finals appearances four or five times. You're in. You're in it every year pretty much.
Peter Rosenberg
I think if in those periods, I'm at least guaranteed one championship, Don, I'd rather be good than have nightmare seasons.
Don LaGreca
It's funny, you have to have one.
Caller
Because if it's none, it's right, then it's easy.
Don LaGreca
But what you're describing are the Yankees, right? The Yankees, since 2000, have the one championship. They've been good pretty much every year. Tons of playoffs, only the two World Series. So it's not a fair exact comp. And all Yankee fans do is complain about it because they set a standard. So it really depends on who you're talking about. If you're the Kansas City Chiefs and I tell you you're gonna win one championship over the next 20 years and be bad, they may be like, no, I'm gonna roll the dice on what I got right now because I'm winning almost every year. But if you're a team that's never won, like if you're the jets to get that one championship, I think they'd be willing to throw away the other 19 to get that one elusive championship that the majority of the fan base never saw. So it really depends on who you're talking about. But most organizations, Peter, would take just be good every year and not win because they're thinking about the money that can be made consistently. Being good every year is good for the bottom line. But for a fan that's never seen a championship, Peter, trading away 19 miserable seasons for one championship, that's easy because a lot of these fan bases have gone through the 19 miserable seasons and don't see the championship.
Peter Rosenberg
That's exactly right. I've been down that road.
Don LaGreca
And would it get old, Peter, if you were good every year, playoffs every season, go to the championship round every two, three years, don't win. At some point we'd be like, dude, when are we going to win? This is great and all, but can I get one? So that's why you have to have the one. And for some fan bases, that's going to be enough.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, for someone like me, my last.
Don LaGreca
You're a good person to ask. I mean, you were really in 91. You were what, 12, 12 years old?
Peter Rosenberg
That's.
Don LaGreca
That's too young to really appreciate a championship like you remember it.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no, listen, I was very into it. I went to a game that year. I knew every player I had, every card I was in. But what you don't know then is, like, the yearning they had, they had won down four years earlier. You know, like when you lived in D.C. at that time, the Redskins were good. That's just what they were. They were always good. So, yeah, it's been to now. Now, don, that was 91. That is 34 years ago.
Don LaGreca
And now you understand football better. So that means you understand the suffering more.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, if they were to win next year, the Commanders win the super bowl next year, how many? I'd be 46 years old and they would have just won. How many would I even hope to get the rest of my life?
Don LaGreca
One. Two? Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don LaGreca
I guess you never know.
Peter Rosenberg
You never know. You go on a run like every Eagles fan we know now who all of a sudden has won two in seven years. Or you were a Chiefs fan who grew up loving Steve Deburgh and hearing of the 1960s chiefs, and now all of a sudden, all you do is win. By the way, Don, I'm sensing the Chiefs fall off a cliff this year. I think Kelsey is going to rue the day. I think he felt he had to come back because he went out sad and he's going to go out even sadder. Maybe it's wishful thinking, but I'm not feeling it.
Don LaGreca
You know, I was feeling it all year because I said they could be happy, they could be happy. It took the very last game.
Peter Rosenberg
Guess what happened?
Don LaGreca
They were happy. And the way they lost and you look at the landscape of the afc, it's going to be very, very hard for them. So they're going to go to a fourth consecutive Super Bowl. Like, just wrap your mind around. At some point, there's going to be things you just can't overcome.
Peter Rosenberg
Right.
Don LaGreca
Especially the season they had aging players, where you've got older players. You want a lot of close games. You caught some breaks. I'm not going to take that away from you. But the worm's going to turn on you, and there's going to be some point where you don't get the breaks and you end up having like a, you know, a 9 and 8 season and miss the playoffs. And then. And then it all goes away because Kelsey's not going to come back after that. This is going to be it. And I don't begrudge him. You'd have to tear the jersey off me. But the only coming back because of the bad taste of the loss to me is not going to.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, you know. You know what makes it harder? I think this is interesting. A lot of people are like, oh, I just. I can't leave. I wouldn't be able to leave we say he's won so much, Don, that I think it probably was easy to walk, would have been easy to walk away. And I think this team had won so much and I don't think this story was told enough leading into the game. Don, I think the Chiefs believed the hype. I really do. I think you and I were saying this team was 16 and 1 but they were never very good. Like I know that's insane. They were obviously good but they were not great.
Don LaGreca
Well, 15 one because they mailed in that last one, remember?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, sorry, I forgot. They were 15 and one heading into the final week. So if you watch them week to week and you can go back now and look at the lines, generally speaking they did not play a lot of special lights out football games. Now your other teams, Don, your Bills, your Eagles, I'll even throw my commanders in there played games at times they went, wow, this, this team's doing something. And by the way, commanders got lucky many times as well. But I they showed glimpses and then when we got to the week before the two weeks before the super bowl it just seemed like every conversation Don, was this team so great they can't lose. This is what they do. And I think they believed it. I think Travis Kelsey believed I'm going to win one more and I'm going to retire. And I think they got caught flat footed by a team who was desperate in the Eagles and it was a.
Don LaGreca
Bad matchup for him. And then you have it just was and maybe they will be back. Like I said, Bart Scott had him dead three years ago because it looked like it was done. And I don't think it's going to ever be bad for them anytime soon. But no, I could see having hey.
Peter Rosenberg
Bad for them is 10 and seven is a test.
Don LaGreca
Can I see them go nine and eight miss the playoffs? Yes, I can. Can I see them go, you know, 11 and 6 and make the playoffs, get bounced in the first round? That's more the likely way it's probably going to go. Exactly. But I do think the championship window is starting to close and I think if Kelce came back just to grab the brass ring one more time, I think it was a mistake.

Don LaGreca
You guys are not done. You got one more second to go.
Peter Rosenberg
There you go.
Don LaGreca
That's it.
Peter Rosenberg
That simple it is. Don Han and Rosenberg closing out a very rainy, I'm told, repulsively rainy Wednesday evening. Natalie said it's raining. Natalie said it's raining buckets now. So we let you guys in. You know everything about our lives. So Rocky has a heart condition, right? As these guys know very well. And the medicine that makes Rocky better is a Lasik. Don. WhichI don't know if you've ever given that to a human or an animal before, but heart failure is when your heart fills with liquid. And the point of the LASIK is to just you pee out all of the extra liquid you have. So in this moment where Rocky had a bad day yesterday, and our doctor basically said, hey, we're gonna try a couple things to see if we can get him better. One of the things was we're upping the dosage of the lasik. The good news was lasik, which is really bad for your kidneys. His kidney values, even though he's been using it for seven months, are perfect. So she said, we have some room to up the LASIK a little bit. Let's see what it does. Great. He's doing better. And that is amazing on a day like today where it starts pouring rain, though, Don, he's also gonna go outside and pee about every 75 minutes.
Don LaGreca
That's not good.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, you're just outside over and over and over again. So shout out to all the pet owners on days like today is a tough one. God, I looked around. There's so many people in our world who have lost a pet. Our beloved Chris Carlin. Him and Cheryl had to put down their doggie. And I wanted to send love to him. I talked to him earlier. I know that, you know, they don't have kids. That is their family. So it's a major loss after 16 years. So I wanted to show Chris Carlin all the love in the world. And I saw posted online earlier from Fox, the legendary Rosanna Scotto had to put her dog Lulu down. Well, the Rock glass. I mean, I don't know what's going on, everyone, but hug your pets tight. All my pet owners out there. Let's go to Jonathan in la. Hi, guys.
Jonathan
Hi, guys. Don. Peter. Peter, yesterday, your pose, respect your pose. But you know, at the. I mean, me, sometimes I ask myself that, especially this last month, man, like, life could be so hard.
Peter Rosenberg
Why.
Jonathan
Why is it Something's happening to me.
Caller
It is what it is.
Jonathan
But at the same, at the end of the night, man, I just. I just pray and I just thank God what I do got and what I don't get it. I'm grateful at what I got and hopefully everything turns out good with Rocky, man. Hopefully. Small little bump and you guys should be good to go. Wishing the best to Rocky and your family.
Peter Rosenberg
Peter, I appreciate, but it's very, very sweet of you. Thank you, man.
Jonathan
No problem, man. Peter, so there's a few rumors there that I'm watching on the Internet that I seen that Stone Cold might come back. It could be an Austin and Cody Rhodes versus the Rock and Cena. Now, you were there, I think two, three years ago. There is an event here in El Segundo, California, that Austin is always there on 316. This year, he wasn't there. So now I'm like, all right, I gotta call in my guy, Peter, because I remember last month I asked you.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, hold on. But hold on, how do you know it's not. It's today's only March 5th. How do we know it's not happening?
Jonathan
Because usually that page, like a month before they, they made a. The tickets put out on sale in case you want to purchase tickets so you can meet Stone Cold. So there was no event going on. It's already, what, the 5th of March. And usually tickets will be out already, but there's none of that. So like I said, a month ago, I called you or who you think Cena is going to face. You clearly told me, Cody Rhodes, I want to. I want to get the inside school. My guy. Other than that, Don, Peter and Alan, great shot as always.
Don LaGreca
Thank you.
Peter Rosenberg
I got to tell you, Jonathan, I just started seeing that move around Yesterday, the idea that Stone Cold could come back, it would be. Last year. Everyone was desperate to hear that glass break and hear him come back. If this year at Mania, Cody is crazy enough to go heads up against Cena, who has the Rock in his corner, and all of a sudden, when things get bad, you hear that glass break, it would be to get to. At this stage in life, to get to see Stone Cold and the Rock throw haymakers at each other one more time would be. I mean, listen, Don, it's literally why wrestling is great, that. That's what I keep telling people.
Don LaGreca
This is what they want that you get.
Peter Rosenberg
You're able to get what you want. There are times when you turn on the super bowl and it's Philadelphia and Kansas City, you don't care who wins. And not only do you not care who wins and the game sucks. Like, Don, that was the super bowl this year. You and I had no interest in the result. And the game itself was putrid to watch, you know, heading into WrestleMania, not going to happen. But that would be extra amazing. Let's go to Ed in Jersey. What's up, Ed?
Caller
Hey, Peter, thanks for taking my call. I got a WWE question for you. Hi, Don.
Don LaGreca
Hello.
Caller
I got a question for both of you.
Don LaGreca
First for Peter.
Peter Rosenberg
Are you involved on the new LFG.
Caller
Show that's on Sunday nights on A and E?
Peter Rosenberg
I am not. It's part of the same. The wrestlers who are part of LFG are sort of from the same crop of kids that are on the show that I'm doing, which is evolve tonight on Tubi. So. But no, I'm not a part of lfg. I'm. I'm a part of a bunch of the documentaries that are air on ae, but I'm not a part of lfg.
Caller
I watch them all the time. Watch them all the time.
Don LaGreca
And a question for you, Don.
Caller
With the news that Jack Hughes is out for the season, how much is that going to hurt the Devils?
Don LaGreca
Oh, it's going to devastate them. I mean, he's there. They don't score a ton of goals to begin with recently, and now you lose your best offensive player. And now we'll find out how long Hamilton's going to be out too. That was. That was a big loss in Dallas last night, but they are still in third place. Larry Brooks said that they should be sellers. Maybe this stops them from being buyers, but I still think they can make the playoffs. Markstrom is back and healthy. Nico Hecher is back and healthy. They have talent on the blue line. But to say it's not devastating. Of course it's devastating. You lost your best offensive player and it's becoming a thing now. Peter, too. Every year something happens with this kid, and I thought this year was gonna be different. He had played in all of the 61 games previous and then he gets hurt last night and he's gonna be out for the season. So of course it's gonna affect them, but I still think they can make the playoffs.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's go to Dan and say Vilt. Hey, Dan.
Caller
Hey. Hey, what's up, fellas? Thanks for taking a call.
Don LaGreca
Always.
Caller
Listen, we could talk sports to a blue in the face all week long, but I just wanted to give you two a shout out. And please don't lose sight of the fact that you guys are so important to so many people out here. You know, Peter, you were alluding to some rough days. They some are worse than others. But you know, 3 o'clock rolls around sooner or later. And I speak for thousands when I say that we love you guys. So thanks for all that you do. Keep it up. Best show on the radio.
Don LaGreca
Thank you, man.
Peter Rosenberg
Dan, you're the man, bro. So that's what a nice way to close out. Kaheem, sorry I couldn't get to you in Patterson. You had a. Would you. But that was a really nice way for us to close out the show. What do we have next? Oh, we have, we have Ranger pregame right now with Don Lagreca. So that's starting about 30 seconds after that you will get Rangers Capitals OV closing in on the record and the Rangers, of course, making their playoff push tomorrow. We'll bring it all back. Podcast Summary: Don, Hahn & Rosenberg – Hour 4: Last Call Crew
Podcast Information:
In Episode Hour 4: Last Call Crew of the "Don, Hahn & Rosenberg" podcast, hosts Don LaGreca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg delve deep into the latest happenings in New York sports, particularly focusing on the New York Knicks and Rangers. The episode is a blend of insightful sports analysis, lively banter, and engaging interactions with listeners, all while maintaining the dynamic energy that fans of ESPN New York appreciate.
The episode kicks off with a discussion about the New York Rangers’ playoff aspirations. Don LaGreca shares his excitement about covering upcoming games:
Don LaGreca [01:59]: "I'll be in Ottawa Saturday. Oh, dream for a 12:30 face off and then 6:00 Sunday at home against Columbus."
Peter Rosenberg follows up, highlighting the rigorous schedule:
Peter Rosenberg [02:07]: "So Friday night you fly out... coming back with a team. You should get home at a decent hour."
The hosts discuss the Rangers' current standing and the impact of playoff coverage:
Don LaGreca [02:49]: "It's some big games. Ottawa, Columbus, all bunched up for a playoffs."
A significant portion of the episode centers on the New York Knicks' performance and playoff prospects. A caller, Michael, expresses frustration over optimistic yet seemingly unrealistic expectations for the Knicks:
Caller [03:12]: "I'm grossed out by all the fatalistic talk about these 2025 Knicks that somehow this is a building year and they don't have the mix to win at all."
Don and Peter engage in a spirited debate about the validity of such optimism:
