Excuse me as Will Smith just had an RBI double. So the Mets in a little bit of trouble in the bottom of the eighth inning. The tie run is in scoring position with nobody out. Bottom of the 8th inning, Mets have the 54 lead. Pete Alonso gave them at some insurance with an RBI single. He's three for four with two RBI. So that's going on right now on 880 game one of the NBA finals tonight of course on ABC and also you can hear it right here on ESPN. New York Yankees conclude their series with the Guardians at 7:05 and the Liberty visit the Mystics at 7:30. Telemore Dew. Don LaGreca
You want to hear the shops? I got the shops for you. This is. This is Shams. Very interesting NBA today with some interesting information about the New York Knicks and Kevin Durant.
Mike
On Kevin Durant I will say this. The Knicks. There was a mutual interest between Kevin Durant and the Knicks at the trade deadline. The Knicks made an offer for Kevin Durant at the NBA trade deadline. Obviously there was no Kevin Durant trade. We'll see what happens in the next couple of weeks. So do they go star hunting? But at the bare minimum they're going to have to add some more depth. That's going to be a requirement of this team this offseason.
Peter Rosenberg
So do you guys remember before the deadline when I brought up Kevin Durant?
Don LaGreca
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
And I talked about how this is going to be a guy that, you know, there'll be teams calling, but the Suns don't want to punt the season yet. And though therefore, like, it's going to take a lot to get him. But it would be a name to watch in the off season because, you know Durant, again, this is not revisionist history. This is how it really went down. He had a strong interest in playing in New York. Coming out of the warriors thing, the Knicks were the preferred team. The injury happened. You remember from the Finals, he popped the Achilles. The Knicks got a little. Got some cold feet about that because it's like, we're going to give a guy a contract, he can't play for a whole year. A lot of hesitation on that point that, that, that just led to him wondering, do I want to go to a team there's nobody else there. That's when Kyrie stepped in. The Knicks were not going to get in the Kyrie business. And Kyrie said, let's go to Brooklyn. And so KD did that. Right. That's all that went down. And the rest is history, as we know. But his. He's always loved, like a lot of the stars, the idea of playing at the Garden. He's always loved the idea of playing in New York. I think he enjoyed playing in New York with Brooklyn, even though it didn't go well. And so there's a real interest, and you heard Sham say it for KD before his career is over to play here. But is it too little, too late at this point? Now, the fact that the Knicks did go as far. He said there was an offer made for him that I did not know that much an actual offer was made. I wonder what that would be.
Don LaGreca
What was the. Me too. That's the piece.
Peter Rosenberg
Like, what's the offer?
Don LaGreca
Because that could be telling a lot about what's coming.
Peter Rosenberg
So. But the fact that the offer was made, nothing, no deal was. Was made. I think Minnesota is going to be hot and heavy after him. So I think that would be more of a team that might try to get him. But if you think about building out the team, if Josh Hart should be coming off the bench, that opens up a spot for where Kevin Durant would play. You have him at the. You have him at the four, you have Cat at the five, right. OG at the three, and you'd still have. He's seven feet. So you'd have still some size. Problem is that Durant's not a great defensive player, especially this late in his career. Not really a big time rebounder either. So is it really a good fit? But it's another interesting name to keep an eye on of different types of moves they'd make. I don't think they're going big fish hunting, but the fact that Choms put that out there is interesting enough for me to say, keep your eye on it.
Alan Hahn
And you always said that if it was going to be something, it was probably going to be during the off season. So we'll see.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Oh, he's going to get moved for sure. I think it's going to be Minnesota.
Alan Hahn
Mike and White Plains Ronnie Spn, New York. What's up, Mike?
Mike
Hey, fellas. Yeah, you know, I just want to talk about the Tibs thing. It's, it's, it's really frustrating because Alan first, first brought up, I think earlier in the week when it happened that this was a Leon Rose decision and, and, and this was a decision that he made and now it's coming out that it was, you know, world Wide west and it's a great decision. It smells like Jim.
Peter Rosenberg
Mike. I said it was players. I said it was the players.
Mike
But you said it's group decision, right? Tell me this isn't a Jim Dolan issue. I mean, everything this guy touches turns to dust. I'm a Ranger fan, I'm a Knick fan. I tie my carriage to a horse with no legs. All right, like anything that starts to get good, he just can't, just can't handle it. I get Tibbs cost him game one. That's totally on him. And I'm not saying that, that he's the best coach in the league, but like, can we not forget where this team was six years ago? Like, this guy just can't have a moment to just comprehend how far this team has come. And it's all been under his watch.

But he didn't fire Leon Rose. I mean to say Leon Rose didn't have a say. It sounded like it was a very collaborative decision.
Peter Rosenberg
It was. There were Alan, no.
Mike
Will you say this though? We all love Leon Rose. All the decisions that he's made, he.
Peter Rosenberg
Hasn'T made a bad decision. Turned a Gold, it's been great, right? So, Mike, that's why I can hear you're just angry and you want to rant, so we'll let you do it. But I think you're also, you're trying to just, you're trying to do what a lot of people are trying to do was just you want to pin it on one person and I'm trying to tell you and you don't want it. You don't have to believe me. But I'm just telling you this was not a one person decision. This was festering.
Mike
That's fine.
Peter Rosenberg
This has been. And by the way, this is not new. Two years ago, when he wouldn't play Evan Fournier, there were people in the front office.
Mike
Two years ago, they weren't in Game 6 of the Eastern Conference final, though. They didn't beat the Boston Celtics two years ago.
Peter Rosenberg
Do you want me to tell you how this all went down or do you want to just keep going?
Don LaGreca
Oh, no, don't get upset.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm telling you, when we're talking about three years ago, there was already rumblings, some people in the front office that were like, this guy's tough to deal with. He doesn't want to play guys. We brought a guy in, you don't even play him. Like that stuff was festering, but you couldn't say anything because of what you said, Mike, because the results were the team was winning and each year getting better. So you just couldn't see. You had to live with it, but those guys had to keep their mouth shut. But then you get to this question, Alan, and it just starts to get worse because the team had issues throughout the season when it comes to depth and everything else. And so when there was a chance to strike, they did. Because the players, when they had their exit interview meetings, there was enough feedback from players that caused concern of where they were going forward. And those people that had the axes to grind with Tibbs in the front office started to get their way, and that's what happened.
Mike
And Leon Rose, and when the players called the shots in Brooklyn, that worked out well, right? Again, we should listen to the players.
Peter Rosenberg
Again, this is a collective. So in the end, when Leon Rose took all this in, and of course Dolan was there too, and they all came to this conclusion of, well, look, if this goes bad next year, we have to fire a coach in the middle of the season. Just if we're going to do it, we got to do in the off season, do it now. Clean break. And that's what the decision that they came up with. I don't agree with it, and I have concerns just like you do about it. But this is not a one person. This is not George Steinbrenner just stepping in and saying, get rid of him. This is not that.
Mike
Would you say that World Wide west, though, he seemed more involved on this than maybe. I don't know. I'm not saying that I would have liked. But personally, I want Leon. I want Leon calling all the shots. Goes to go.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he's the final say. He's the final say.
Mike
You just said the players are calling the shots.
Don LaGreca
No, no, no. Their input is a factor in the decision.
Alan Hahn
Nobody's calling any shots. See, everybody wants to see. Oh, this is Isaiah Thomas in the ear of Dolan.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, it is nothing.
Alan Hahn
All right. It's not that. It's all the players, like Magic Johnson demanding his head coach be fired. Nobody said anybody had the call. Everybody could be right here. Michael's report that World Wide west got in the ear of Dolan saying, I think there's something you got to keep an eye on.
Peter Rosenberg
It's been going on for a while, man.
Alan Hahn
For a while. And that. And then it's brought to the attention of Leon, and Leon pays attention to it, and then we bring the players in and get their input, and then everybody collectively decided, you know what? I don't think we can go any farther now with this head coach. Let's change the coach.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. If enough people are grumbling, it just reaches a point of, okay, there's enough people now that have come up. First, it was one or two voices, but now that it's a. Now that it's enough to feel like it's the majority now, it feels like, look, if this goes into next season and it's going bad next year and we're in the same place we are, we're gonna have to fire him anyway. And you don't want to fire a coach during the season, so let's just do it now. And by the way, I'll say it again. Jim Dolan ate $30 million. Nobody wants to do that. But if people come to you and say, you know what? It's time. We got to do this. If that's what it's going to take to win, I'll do it. I trust my people. That's what he did. He trusted what his people told him.
Alan Hahn
Now, if Leon Rose was fired the way JD And Gordon were fired with Rangers, then that is a Dolan decision. But the fact that the only one that lost his job.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, it's like Denver Cronky. Which one of them? I don't know. It wasn't Stan, but the younger one, Josh. Josh was going to fire Malone. Malone and the gm whose name escapes me. They were not getting along. And he was thinking, I got to get rid of one of them. They don't get along. And then he got so fed up he got rid of both of them.
Alan Hahn
Right?
Peter Rosenberg
So that's a different story.

Don LaGreca
The flight is at 7:05, Don. It boards. I think it bored. Let me see if my boarding pass tells me. I believe it boards at 6:35. Right. If it's 7:05.
Alan Hahn
Okay.
Don LaGreca
I said I was gonna leave my house at 5:45.
Peter Rosenberg
He's out of his mind.
Alan Hahn
I don't get that.
Don LaGreca
Which would get me there like 6:26.
Peter Rosenberg
How? In what world? Where are we?
Don LaGreca
There won't be traffic at 5:45. I'm beating the traffic.
Peter Rosenberg
On what day of the week?
Don LaGreca
A Friday morning. Leaving the city. Not going towards the city.
Peter Rosenberg
That doesn't matter.
Don LaGreca
Leaving the city at 5:45.
Alan Hahn
How long does it take there? Just 2:00 in the morning. Like your house to JFK.
Don LaGreca
Half hour.
Alan Hahn
All right. So you'll be JFK if you leave it. We're leaving 545.
Peter Rosenberg
He thinks he's going to get JFK at 6:15. Yeah. Now you're going to get a car service, right?
Don LaGreca
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. So you don't have to worry about parking.
Alan Hahn
Just pull right up and what?
Peter Rosenberg
No checking bags?
Don LaGreca
Like right now? At 6:50pm on a Thursday? Yeah, it's an hour.
Alan Hahn
See, I don't.
Peter Rosenberg
I would definitely find the Hour.
Alan Hahn
What I worry about, I don't worry about the commute. What I worry about is scary through security. Like what if they're shorthanded? What if there's just like a massive.
Peter Rosenberg
Always something.
Alan Hahn
I feel uncomfortable.
Peter Rosenberg
I got everything pre check the whole.
Alan Hahn
But I just, I'm always. I like to at least be at security like at least a half hour before boarding. If not an hour because I don't know how bad.
Don LaGreca
Half hour before boarding?
Alan Hahn
Yeah, just because I don't want to get backed up. What if it's crazy? What if the gates like a 10 minute walk. Like I.
Peter Rosenberg
There's things that are out of your control that happen. I also say this construction. You don't know that like overnight construction somewhere that suddenly turns out what seems to be an easy commute into a brutal.
Don LaGreca
All right. So. So it feels like my alarm needs.
Peter Rosenberg
To be five, easily five.
Don LaGreca
And I need to be out of my house at more like 5:15. That would get me there by 5:50 for a flight that's boarding at 6:30. Now you're more comfortable.
Peter Rosenberg
I'm way more comfortable.
Alan Hahn
I don't understand. I don't. Like you're leaving. Like you're not checking margin for no checking back.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah. So yeah, I'm more comfortable with that.
Alan Hahn
But all of a sudden some road construction or just something wacky happens. Like what's the worst I think about this?
Peter Rosenberg
That's the other thing. It's the belt.
Don LaGreca
Nothing beats chilling.
Alan Hahn
All right. Yeah. Look at all of a sudden I'm there like with plenty of time to spare, relax, maybe have a little breakfast.
Don LaGreca
I just, I'm not having. Let me say about Peter Rosenberg.
Peter Rosenberg
No brekkie.
Don LaGreca
There's no relaxed brekkie at 5:30 in the morning. There's. Don't talk to me, don't look at me. I don't know you. I don't want to know you see.
Peter Rosenberg
I was going to offer to you that if you got there within the half hour that you thought you would. And you're now insanely early. Text me and I will venmo you and pay for your breakfast.
Don LaGreca
No, no, no need.
Peter Rosenberg
So you know I. Give me a breakfast.
Don LaGreca
No, I'll get breakfast on the plane.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Don LaGreca
I upgraded to premium economy which is the definition of first class of Jays. Now last night, guys, I had an honor in my, in my life. I was able to call the Evolve men's championship match. I would like you guys to hear my first ever championship goal. I did, I did the women's last week. But we Already missed that boat and I didn't play it. So this is the men's championship, so my second ever championship call. You interested in hearing it?
Alan Hahn
Yes, please.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, let's do it.
Don LaGreca
Here we go. Last night from Tubi.
Peter Rosenberg
He's going for injection. He's got.
Don LaGreca
Wait.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, no.
Don LaGreca
Shambles. This is how we beat him the.
Peter Rosenberg
Last time they faced knockout blow.
Don LaGreca
That's my partner looking for it. Jackson Drake's looking for the unaliving. And now the COVID for the title.
Peter Rosenberg
Come on.
Don LaGreca
Take your hands off your head, Peter, and stand up and celebrate. Heartbreak for legacy. Carver and Enofe. The Carolina Reaper strikes. And the vanity project is complete. Jackson Drake, your first ever WWE Evolved champion. There it is.
Peter Rosenberg
That's excellent call.
Alan Hahn
I, I, I think a lot of power there too chatty, but I don't know how it works in wrestling.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. What was the steppage there? A little bit of stepping.
Don LaGreca
I don't know.
Alan Hahn
There was no, it was just like, it sounded like he was doing more play by play than he tell you.
Peter Rosenberg
To take your headphones off and celebrate because what are you celebrating? You are the impartial broadcast.
Don LaGreca
Because the guy who won is a bad guy and my partner likes them and I'm always talking trash about them because they're terrible.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, I see.
Don LaGreca
So he's saying, get your hands off your head. Like, I was in shock.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, because you're in shock, right?
Don LaGreca
He's saying, why not celebrate the great victory?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, okay. All right. Now it makes sense.
Don LaGreca
No, I, our play by play. I sort of leave room for Stone to call a lot of the big moves because he's the former wrestler. So I'm like, I don't want to get caught. I could get a move wrong. I'd rather have him call the big moves and call it now. I ended up calling the final move that ended the whole thing. But yeah, so we kind of have.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, he got out of the way when it was time for you to do that. And then you delivered the excellent, like sort of explaining what just happened. You gave me the headline in the first pattern.
Don LaGreca
You guys weren't able to know the cute references that I was using, but all of the were tied into their nicknames and their things.
Peter Rosenberg
No, no, it was very good. The whole thing was excellent.
Alan Hahn
Yeah. Terrific.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. Well done.
Alan Hahn
I, I, I'm blown away. Like the fact you had not done this before, and then you sound like you've been doing it for 10 years.
Don LaGreca
Yeah, 14 weeks. 14 episodes, I should say. 14 episodes. Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
That's a whole season for you and me. That's.
Don LaGreca
That's true.
Alan Hahn
So we got a big show tomorrow. We're going to be breaking down, you know, Mets, Yankees, Mets, Mets gave up three runs in the eighth inning and now are trailing six. Oh, come on out here. The Yankees got the guardians. And of course, we'll have game one.
Peter Rosenberg
Patriots got to win tonight if they want to make it a series. Agree or disagree?
Alan Hahn
No, I agree with that. Totally.
Peter Rosenberg
Gotta win tonight or else this thing's probably gonna be short. That's what I'm thinking.
Don LaGreca
Then why not? Why not steal game two, though? It doesn't have to be tonight.
Peter Rosenberg
Feels like tonight.
Don LaGreca
I hear what you're saying. No, if they win it, it's an. We have an.
Peter Rosenberg
Now we know we have a series.
Don LaGreca
I'll say this, Don, if they win, we do a lot more on the show tomorrow. If the Pacers win tonight.
Alan Hahn
And It'll be at 3:00 clock right here on ESPN New York.
Peter Rosenberg

Don, Hahn & Rosenberg — Hour 4: Last Call Crew
Release Date: June 5, 2025
In "Hour 4: Last Call Crew," hosts Don LaGreca, Alan Hahn, and Peter Rosenberg dive deep into the latest developments in the NBA, focusing on the New York Knicks' strategic moves and coaching decisions. The episode also features engaging listener interactions, personal anecdotes, and a spirited discussion about sports broadcasting. Skipping over the commercial breaks, the trio delivers insightful analysis and lively debates, making the episode a must-listen for New York sports enthusiasts.
The episode opens with a heated discussion about the New York Knicks' interest in acquiring superstar Kevin Durant. Hosts analyze the potential impact of Durant joining the team and the feasibility of such a significant trade.
Peter Rosenberg highlights the Knicks' strategic interest:
“Do you think it's too little, too late at this point?” ([02:28])
Don LaGreca adds historical context, reminding listeners of Durant's past interest in New York:
“He had a strong interest in playing in New York. Coming out of the Warriors thing, the Knicks were the preferred team.” ([02:33])
The conversation delves into the Knicks' current roster dynamics and the challenges of integrating a player like Durant, who, despite his offensive prowess, may not fit seamlessly into their defensive schemes.
Peter Rosenberg speculates on the Knicks' strategy:
“They’re not going big fish hunting, but the fact that Choms put that out there is interesting enough for me to say, keep your eye on it.” ([04:09])
The hosts consider various scenarios, including the likelihood of Durant's involvement with other teams like the Minnesota Timberwolves, ultimately emphasizing the unpredictable nature of NBA trades.
A significant portion of the episode centers on the controversial decision to part ways with Knicks' head coach Tibbs. Listener Mike from White Plains voices his frustration, igniting a robust discussion among the hosts about the factors leading to this decision.
Mike criticizes the front office's handling of Tibbs:
“Everything this guy touches turns to dust. I get Tibbs cost him game one. That's totally on him.” ([05:32])
Peter Rosenberg counters by explaining the collective nature of the decision:
“This was not a one person decision. This is not George Steinbrenner just stepping in and saying, get rid of him.” ([11:05])
The trio explores the internal dynamics between Leon Rose, Jim Dolan, and other front office members, suggesting that the decision was influenced by prolonged dissatisfaction and player feedback regarding Tibbs' coaching methods.
Alan Hahn adds insight into the collaborative aspect:
“It's a very collaborative decision.” ([09:11])
As the discussion unfolds, the hosts emphasize the complexity of coaching changes in professional sports, acknowledging both the coaches' performance and the broader organizational strategy.
The episode features an interactive segment where listener Mike passionately shares his views on the Knicks' recent decisions. His calls spark a deeper analysis among the hosts about accountability and leadership within the team.
Peter Rosenberg addresses Mike's concerns:
