Spain won three nothing over Austria. And the Beach Bash soccer watch party was brought to you by Boost Mobile. Don't overpay. Get unlimited talk, text and data for $25 a month. Forever for life. For real. Switch now@boost mobile.com a little earlier we had Jordan Ron on and Bart Scott on talking about, you know, the Giants. And you know, Peter has been on record saying, you know, we haven't seen anything definitive from Jackson Dart to believe that he's going to be a franchise quarterback. And I agree with him.
B
Yeah.
A
And I think anybody logically would. But that doesn't mean that there isn't enough there to get, you know, hyped up that maybe they do have the next franchise quarterback. We're just going to have to wait and see. Right.
C
Whether it's right the second or not, there's potential there.
A
But I think what, what people kind of forget because the Giants have been irrelevant pretty much for the last decade is the fact that they've got, even with the jets in the market, an absolute massive fan base that is hungry to see their team win.
B
Yes.
A
So when I drive to work every day, I go to the Holland Tunnel, I drive north on a New Jersey turnpike and I am passing billboards with Jackson Dardama. I've seen them, you know, because being the quarterback of the Giants is a very prestigious.
C
He didn't do one of the breast reduction ones, did he?
B
No, not that one.
C
Okay.
B
But he, he did do the Curtin, New Jersey.
A
No, I forget what it's for.
B
It is an insurance, though.
A
I believe it's insurance or something like that. And, and listen, that's fine. He's, he's getting his money and, and rightly so. And I don't think it's been over overhyped. But listen, people are excited. John Harbaugh comes here, people believe they've got a franchise quarterback. And you see the celebrity gets created just for a modicum of success. Yeah, I mean, Kevin Scottaboo has got an interesting name. He came in kind of hyped a little bit, had some success, got hurt, but yet every time he's somewhere, the camera's on him and he's enjoying the fame. And same thing with Jack Siddhartha. I'm not saying it's not a problem. I'm just saying that it's easy to get overhyped when you're in New York, especially when you play for certain teams. And the Giants are one of those teams, the Knicks are one of those teams, the Yankees are one of those teams. So. And I think Giant fans are hungry for stability. Like I said to you guys before, I'm not looking for a Super bowl right away. I just want to get back on the tracks, man. Right. So when I hear. I even cringed a bit when Jordan said, I think, I think it's realistic. They can win eight, nine games.
B
You're not even going that high.
A
I mean, you're talking. They've won seven over the last two, and now they're going to go eight, nine. I'd like that to happen. I think that could be the absolute best case scenario. But for me to go into the season just expecting them to win eight, nine games, which means they're playing meaningful games in December, and nine wins could be enough to get into the playoffs with an unproven quarterback, an unhealthy running back, a wide receiver that's not going to be on the field for. It doesn't look like opening day. You know, just because John Harbaugh is here, I mean, listen, I don't think he's a miracle worker. I think he could add stability to this team. But does it automatically mean that now they're going to double their win total in one.
B
Well, first, first, let's, let's, let's review last year when we admitted that coaching was horrific.
A
Yes.
B
How many games should they have won?
A
Right. You look at that. See, that's what people are going.
B
That's what I'm going on.
A
They look at it and go, oh, with confidence.
B
Coaching.
C
But that's such a game. But it's not really.
B
It is, but it does give you. Though if, look, if you're searching for hope, that's what you're searching for is, you know, they, what they win last year, four.
A
They went three and four.
B
There's at least three games that they should have Won. We know this. Right. At least three you can make arguments for, maybe more. But I'm going to give you three. And that's the thing. If you're a fan, you're kind of hanging on to is with competent coaching and another year of experience, this team should be able to win the games that they gave away last year. Right. So that's why you're doing that kind of math. Problem is, the schedule is different, as we know, year to year. It's never the same. And so because other than your division, but because of it, there still is a variable about whether or not they can actually win. But what you're looking for though, Don, is what every Knick fan was looking for when Tom Thibodeau took over. And that was simply, can you just make us like a functioning franchise again? Can we just not be embarrassing and lose games embarrassing ways and not even be competitive? So even if you lose because you didn't have enough talent, at least you're in the game. I think you're looking for that, Don. Right. That at least visibly. I think I can see a team that like, okay, but that's all Don
C
saying is to reset. All you're talking about, Don, is, is not results, it's resetting expectations.
B
Right.
C
Is there a world in which they could go 8 and 9? Absolutely. Should you go into the year expecting that? No.
B
And if they don't say it was a failure, you can't do that.
C
That's right. You go into the year going, hey, let's see a little bit of improvement from last year.
B
See what it looks like.
C
Let's see, let's watch Jackson Dart play. I don't know, his first full NFL season.
B
That'd be nice.
C
Let's see how it goes.
A
Well, and everybody is looking at it off of what Alan said, they were, they were a four win team last year.
B
Yeah.
A
And the feeling was Dable gets fired, you bring in John Harbaugh. Well, then they would have won the Dallas game that they lost in overtime.
B
Oh, right, right, right.
A
Yeah, I guess they would. But what if Dart throws a bad pick in overtime and they. And they lose that game? Right. The other game that they look at is the blown lead against Denver. That game. I say, you know what, with John Harbaugh, they would have won.
B
You don't lose that game, you know,
A
that's probably a win. So then that, that takes you to five.
B
You're not giving me.
A
You lost, you lost to. You lost to the Bears by four in Chicago. Maybe, maybe you win that game they're in the Green Bay game. They lost that game 27 to 20.
B
The Detroit game, well, that was.
A
That's a great loss that I think that they probably would win with John Harbaugh. The Minnesota game, they lost 16 to 13. All right, then they won their last couple of games. But you know, it doesn't work that way, guys, because maybe under circumstances, some of the four games you won, who knows, maybe you would have lost. You know, I'm sure it wasn't all coaching. The Giants are going to tell you it's all coaching because they kept Shane and they fired Dable. So what they did and was pretty strategic. We found our problem. Our problem was our coach. We've replaced our coach with a future hall of Famer coach. So now we're going to double our win total. That seems good in theory. Analytically it probably works. But it's a different schedule. We'll see. As Dart matures, are there going to be a couple of games he may lose because he's still a kid? Again, no neighbors. Is Cam Scatabua going to be in every down back? There's a lot of things I just want to sit back and watch competent football, whatever it looks like, wins and losses. I just want to know that I've got a competent football team that's not shooting itself in the foot not knowing what they're doing. Guys playing out of position, guys look like they don't know what the hell they're doing. And that's the way it's looked for the last few years.
B
Right?
A
So, yeah, I'd like more wins. And usually competency means more wins, but it doesn't mean doubling your win total automatically. Team won seven games in its last two years and all of a sudden is going to jump to 8, 9 wins. I hope they're right. I hope they are. But you know what happens with expectations, guys? They don't live up to the expectations. And now John Harbaugh's on the hot seat, right, because they only won six instead of nine.
B
That's what you want to avoid now. Now, could this be similar to when Bill Parcells took over the jets because they were unmitigated disaster, the only type of disaster that we ever want to talk about. That's right, because the mitigated disaster is not nearly as impressive. But they were 1 in 15. They were garbage. Terrible. The worst team in football, he comes in nine and seven.
A
But like, like that.
B
That, like, that's a dramatic turnaround.
A
Here's what's interesting. As bad As I think Dable was, it wasn't coach.
B
I'm not saying he was coaching, but.
A
But the 1 in 15 team, with any other coach, maybe they would be a four win team or a five win team.
B
All right.
A
Remember you had Keyshawn, right? I mean you had. I, it's. And, and listen, I. I love John Harbaugh. Is he Bill Parcells?
B
We're going to find out. You know, because everywhere Bill win, he made. He put the franchise back on track.
C
But this has never happened with Harbaugh before.
B
Right. This is his first time.
C
This is the first time leaving and seeing if you do it again.
A
When you look at Bill's track record, you know, of what he did with the Giants and then what he ended up doing with New England and what he did with the jets and even with the Dallas Cowboys, you know, he didn't fail places, you know. So can he do what Bill Parcells did? Maybe. But I don't. As good as John Harbaugh is, I don't think he's Bill Parcells that well.
C
That's going to be the really interesting piece that I'm unsure about. I know I mentioned this. I feel like a drag when I say it and a broken record. But listen, Baltimore was. Was done with Harbaugh for a reason. The quarterback's done with you.
D
Yeah.
C
Lamar's not happy anymore. We don't think we can do enough to get over the hump. So we're moving on.
B
Yeah.
C
So I'm not saying that was clear. I'm not saying that's the be all end on it means he can't coach. But let's not act like we're getting him fresh off the super bowl either. Joe Flacco. Young Joe Flacco isn't walking through those doors.
A
No, I get it. But you know what? Tom Coughlin came after getting fired in Jacksonville.
C
That's right.
A
Went to a couple of championship games, got him on the map and then was let go, so. And then he had the success eventually with the Giants. The ESPN New York Beach Bash is brought to by Spike Date Boost Mobile, Miller Lite Fanatics, Best NYC and the New Jersey Lottery. We're taking you up until seven and then Pat o' Keefe is going to be Pat o' Keefe over tonight who
B
didn't come to the Beach Bash and
A
maybe it was because of the way I wished him a happy birthday.
B
That was. Yeah, the timing of that was interesting for that.
A
He did, however, reach out to say he appreciated the remembered.
C
He did say anything else about it.
A
I know that was it. So I want to apologize that this is the thing that follows incest talk. Happy Birthday to Pat o'. Keefe
C
Chris Garland commented Don on your on your hat. He he asked if you were going for a Walter White thing.
A
Yeah, because of this hat.
B
Yeah.
A
I can't wear this. This hat. Why can't you wear it? It's come because the hat. I got this hat at Wild West City like three years ago. It's the Undertaker hat. Not the wrestler, but like an Undertaker. Not far off, old timey 1800s. And I think it kind of fits the outfit, but I can't wear it because.
C
But I love what you have. The classic Giants logo, red hat.
B
That's a red hat, though. But again, the fact that he made sure everything matches, I mean, well, that's why Don Don is dressed like America today.
A
Because I just didn't know.
B
And stars and stripes, red white.
A
Wearing my Robert Graham.
B
Beautiful.
A
Instead of just going to Amazon and putting in stupid outfits and whatever they sent me was what I would be wearing over the last couple of years. I feel attacked, but I know I feel it's great. And I just brought the hat because I just didn't know what my hair was gonna be like wearing the Undertaker hat. And then we had Jordan on. I just thought why not? Symmetry to that.
B
Yeah. Very well done. What are you, what are you trying to do here?
A
I'm just trying to find the call screener.
B
Oh, call screens, calls.
A
Yeah. Well, no, no, I'd like to know how much time is left in the show.
B
Oh, oh, you want to. Oh, you now we're worried about the clock with all the delays we've had today. I think Peter, we're about a plus. Plus 12.
A
I don't know.
B
I think we can go 12 minutes over.
A
I don't want to dive too much this time.
C
Yeah, we're fine. But.
B
But honestly, like the first and foremost of everybody who came out, we're very grateful because this was, you know, weather wise, a very difficult day to handle the sweltering heat. So everybody that came, that came to see us, that is still here as well. All of you, we love you. Thank you so much. Also, really, let's just talk about one thing that this weekend we celebrate which is the. The country's birthday.
A
Yeah. 250.
B
250 years of greatness. Of the pursuit of greatness.
C
Pursuit of greatness.
B
The pursuit of greatness.
C
And I feel. And by the way, I don't love everything at 250. I'm feeling great about 500 though.
B
You think so?
C
Oh, I love where we're at for 500.
B
You think at 500 we'll get it right?
C
Oh, yeah.
B
Listen, by then.
C
Told you I was just in Italy, Guys, we are brand new. We're making it up. We're stumbling and bumbling.
B
We're toddlers. Toddlers compared to the most of the countries in this world.
C
I mean, you go to these incredible places all across the world in Africa and in Greece and in Italy. We're making it up, folks.
B
Yeah.
A
No, clearly we have made it work. And listen, it's kind of freaky for me because even though Alan was on this earth for the 200th, the bicentennial, you were not.
B
I was. I was. I was five.
A
You were five, Don.
C
You remember it?
A
I was eight. I remember it. I do.
B
I barely remember.
A
I remember all the boats on the Hudson and the fireworks and, like, what a big deal bicentennial was.
C
I'm not in a good spot to get another anniversary. I don't love my chances at 300.
B
No.
A
Think so.
C
I don't love it.
B
You don't love it?
C
Oh, I like it better.
B
Take it.
C
I like them better than yours, both of you.
B
But I don't love it. How dare you?
A
I don't love it. About 96. That's not 90.
C
96 is a while. My parents, though, got prime time. Both.
B
Yeah.
C
And my parents in 76 were in their 20s.
B
Sure.
C
Like, fully able to appreciate it. They're in their 70s now, but fully able to enjoy it.
B
Yeah. But appreciate, I think, is the most important thing, and I think it's the best thing about sports is that it allows us to kind of just appreciate everyone. Like, we all can share in something without having to worry about what divides us. And that's. We learned in this. The run that the Knicks went on and how it really did unify a lot of people. It was.
C
Although, can I give you guys an honest thought, though? I. I'm wearing my 2014 Team USA jersey. My favorite one. I have, like, I have a lot of them. This is my favorite one.
B
Okay.
C
But last night after the game ended, when they were, like, just waxing about the game, they were so happy. And the color, guys, like, I am so proud to be an American. After that win, I was like, bro, be proud to be an American.
B
Sure.
C
That was just 11 guys playing a soccer game. Okay. There are things. People are doing things every day in this country that can make you proud to be an American. You know what I'm saying? The performance of athletes now, it gets me excited. And it's. The most patriotic I get is for Team usa. But whether they played bad or they played good.
B
Right.
C
It doesn't change where I'm at.
B
With this, we always look at it as though as the emblematic thing of like everybody coming together and you know, from different backgrounds and doing something great and it's neat.
C
But if the ball had bounced one different way, then you're not proud of
A
the way it out. You're still proud of the team and. But listen, I love the Beach Bash. Thanks to all of our sponsors. It was a rough one today.
C
You braved it.
A
You people, you know, 100 degrees, a lot of humidity. You guys came down. We lost the rest of your weekend. We're going to be, you know, seeing what the Yankees can do. Hopefully if you're a Yankee fan, they're not riding in even longer losing streak. They lose to the Twins. Come on now that's a problem.
B
I mean this is perfect time.
A
Yeah, this is. You could not ask for a better team to get to the Bronx after a seven game losing streak.
B
Monday, we're going to talk some Monday Night Football.
A
Well, we're going to talk on Monday Night Football.

Date: July 2, 2026
Hosts: Don La Greca, Alan Hahn, Peter Rosenberg
Podcast: ESPN New York
The fourth hour of Don, Hahn & Rosenberg dives into a lively recap of ESPN New York’s “Beach Bash” event, an afternoon filled with sweltering heat, enthusiastic fans, and classic New York sports banter. The hosts dissect the current state and future prospects of the New York Giants under new coach John Harbaugh, analyze fan expectations, and reflect on broader themes involving New York sports, American identity, and the moments that bring fans together. Amid the fun, they weave in memorable stories, personal quirks, and lighthearted humor.
Timestamps: 00:29 – 09:41
Fan Excitement vs. Realism:
The hosts grapple with the electrifying buzz surrounding the Giants’ offseason moves. John Harbaugh’s arrival as head coach has fueled optimism, but they caution listeners not to expect miracles overnight, especially with an unproven quarterback like Jackson Dart and injury concerns throughout the roster.
How Expectations Can Become a Trap:
The discussion emphasizes the challenge of being a New York sports fan: swinging between hope and reality. The city’s media market can overhype potential stars even before they’ve proven themselves.
What Constitutes Success This Season?
The crew debates if fans should expect an 8–9 win season given last year’s record (four wins) and new leadership, or if a reset to basic competency is the wiser hope.
Harbaugh vs. Parcells (and a Lesson from Jets History):
The hosts compare Harbaugh’s challenge to Bill Parcells’ 1997 Jets turnaround, recognizing both the allure and danger of expecting instant results from a new coach.
Memorable Moment:
Don and Alan recall giant New York sports billboards and what it’s like to see a quarterback’s celebrity status boom based on potential alone. (01:43–02:05)
Timestamps: 14:27 – 16:56
Community & Gratitude:
After a brutally hot day, the hosts thank loyal fans who braved the weather to attend the Beach Bash, making it clear sport is about much more than just the games.
Timestamps: 16:56 – 19:43
Reflecting on U.S. Milestones:
With July 4th approaching, the hosts muse on America’s 250th birthday, comparing the U.S. to “toddlers” among older world nations, poking fun at the country’s youthful foibles while expressing optimism for the future.
Sports as a Unifier:
Alan notes how the recent Knicks run brought people together, a rare moment of unity among rivalries.
Questioning Performative Patriotism in Sports:
Peter calls out the media tendency to conflate sports victories with national pride, expressing nuance about patriotism and sports:
Timestamps: 19:43 – End
Yankees’ Struggles & Opportunity:
A quick turn to baseball shows frustration with the Yankees’ current losing streak, but the next matchup offers a chance to turn things around.
Upcoming Content Teased:
The show will return on Monday, promising talk on both the Giants' and Jets' prospects, more football coverage, and a look at Team USA’s next soccer match.
On resetting expectations:
“All you're talking about, Don, is not results, it's resetting expectations.”
— Peter Rosenberg (05:07)
On the myth of coach as miracle worker:
“Just because John Harbaugh is here, I mean, listen, I don't think he's a miracle worker.”
— Alan Hahn (03:27)
On the nation's youth:
“We're making it up, folks.”
— Peter Rosenberg (17:25)
On sports providing unity:
“It allows us to kind of just appreciate everyone. Like, we all can share in something without having to worry about what divides us.”
— Alan Hahn (18:23)
The episode artfully blends New York sports analysis with humor, nostalgia, and cultural commentary. The hosts provide a grounded, if hopeful, perspective on the Giants’ future and poke fun at their own and the nation’s foibles. Listeners are reminded that sports—especially in a melting pot like New York—are about not just wins and losses, but identity, unity, and shared experience.
Next episode: Don, Hahn, & Rosenberg return Monday with fresh Giants, Jets, and Team USA talk—after a well-earned holiday break!
