This is from the national morning show Vehicle on Sportsmanlike with my friend Michelle Smallman, Chris Canty and Evan Cohen. And here's a story that Evan Cohen told this morning. I'm curious to get your guys feedback. Peter Rosenberg was here from ESPN New York.

Okay. He's on with Alan Hahn and Don Lagreca in the afternoon and he was doing first take and we have a wonderful makeup artist by the name of Laura. Laura has a hand injury, right. She had this cast on the hands. Peter asked her to go get him tea and she had to hold it with the hand that has the cast.

Bad Guy.

Now, Jason sat there and looked at Peter and said, I've never once asked anyone else to get me tea in the year. Plus that I've been here. And he asked the one person that had a casted hand.

Horrible move by him.

And Evan did not let him live it down.

He reminded him every single second.

In Rosenberg's defense, he had no idea.

Now, real quick, I just want to ask. Let me talk to Don. He's known me the longest year. Don, do you see me as the kind of person who would show up somewhere and ask someone to go get me tea? You think I walked in and said, hey, can someone grab me a tea?

No, I can't picture that.

So do you want to know the truth or want to live in fantasy.

Let me preface this. You guys have never let me live that down. My poor parents. Let them enjoy one thing. Let me preface this by saying I was there. I wasn't there for this situation, but I was there that morning as well.

In fact, I think. Peter, I introduced you to Laura.

You did? You did?

Yeah.

She came in to talk to talk.

To you about some makeup.

And then I. And then you said, hey, do you want makeup? And I said, oh, you know what? I could probably use a little something.

Sure, sure, sure. Yeah.

So. So I introduced you to together now. Now, just for the record, I absolutely adore Laura. She's wonderful, and she does take care of things when you need them because that's, you know, part of, you know, the whole relationship with everybody there. There's stage managers. There's all kinds of people that are just willing. If you need something, they are willing to help you. And so every now and then, it's like, you know, I forgot a tea, or I was late or whatever it is. And she's just like, oh, I'll order something. He'll have it delivered, whatever it is.

[Peter Rosenberg]

She's a team player.

[Don LaGreca]

She's great. And you can easily venmo her if she buys you something. And she's quite happy with that. So this does exist in that world, and it does happen. With everyone.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Oh, well, again, so I ask you guys then, based on what Alan just told you and what I'm gonna tell you, I'll let you then decide who the bad guy is. Me, who simply met this person, Laura. We had a lovely. If I'm being honest, we had a very personal conversation. Our first conversation was very deep.

[Alan Hahn]

Wow.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Because we talked about Rocky, and she is a dog person, so much so that her poodle, who she no longer has, who passed away a few years ago. The only tattoo that she has is a picture of her poodle on her wrist, which I took a picture of and sent to Natalie. Then Greenie walked in. You guys know Greenie lost his pooch this last summer. So a very personal conversation happened there. After I went and did the first segment on the air, my throat was feeling a little itchy, and I asked her if she had a lozenge. And she goes into her purse and goes, let me look. And I said, don't go crazy or anything. She goes, no, no, no. And she finds a Ricola for me. And she says, here. She's like, actually, do you want a tea? And now, normally, I would go, no, but Because I know of, like, I have to be on air for this show for two hours. Then we. I said, you know what? I actually. I would take a tea. Is that okay? She's like, oh, my God, of course. And she goes and gets me a tea. To which when she brings it, I go, thank you so much. At no point did I notice that she had an injury. I admit that I. Maybe I should have noticed she had a. Like, a black cast on one of her hands. But, no, I didn't show up and go, someone get me a tea. Someone who I'd connected with personally.

My tea.

[Peter Rosenberg]

How am I gonna go on air without my tea? You look like. You look like someone beneath me.

[Alan Hahn]

Get it.

[Don LaGreca]

Again, as much as I really want to just drag Peter through this, he was. And he. Don, I've never seen Peter like this before. First of all, showed up in a suit, which was the first shocking thing.

[Peter Rosenberg]

I don't know why.

[Don LaGreca]

But then also, you could just see how he was first day of school, nervous. And so it was about everybody just keeping him calm. No, no, no. I'm just saying, like, it was kind of. For me, it was very endearing. Like, I just. I've never seen you like that.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Well, yeah. It's not my everyday place of work. I hadn't been there for any sort of work in five years. Something like that.

[Don LaGreca]

So. So it's Very, very common. Very understandable. But for somebody who is incredibly as confident as you are, at least the way you carry yourself, it was not something I was used to. So I let them know in the makeup room, like, listen, like, you know, just take care of him. Like, we should take care of him. Like, he's. He's excited, he's nervous. He had a great opportunity, so, like, let's just make sure he's comfortable. So I'm sure she was going out of her way. Yeah, because that's what she does.

[Alan Hahn]

Listen, you could have said no if you notice the cast, but sure, not noticing it, you really need. She offered. So that tells you.

[Don LaGreca]

What was she doing?

[Alan Hahn]

I'm. I should do it.

[Don LaGreca]

Did she have to walk handstand to the coffee shop?

[Alan Hahn]

She couldn't do it. She wouldn't have offered.

[Peter Rosenberg]

By the way, the. Only for the record, all she did. For example, if I was there as often as Evan Cohen was, who does his show there, then I'd be very comfortable walking in the kitchen. Guys, I don't know where the kitchen is. I don't work down there. I was a guest. So obviously, if I were comfortable, I would have done it. But she offered it. I needed it.

I said yes, end of story. I think we're missing. There is a bad guy in this film.

And the bad guy is Chris Canty.

Because Chris Canty. I mean, the story is barely out of Evan's mouth, and the first thing Canty goes is bad guy. So obviously he doesn't like you because he didn't even for a second say, I need more information.

That doesn't sound like Peter.

No, immediately.

I mean, he's not even complete with the last word of the story, and you hear bad guy.

You know, it's such a great take by you, man. That hurt. Now that I think about it, to think that I knew he's the guy I knew second best on the show. I know Smallman the best, right? I know Canti the second best. I know Evan Cohen the least. Cohen completely annihilates me, but at least he saw me. And to my face, he did say, I can't believe you had her get you T. I said, I didn't know she was injured. She offered. What do you want me to say?

But Canty, now, obviously the first impression that he had of you was that you were a good guy. That's why he said, I can't believe.

Canty didn't say, I can't believe or I need more information. No bad guy. Evan would. If Evan had said so typical of Peter because he's a piece of garbage, right? I'm not surprised by this at all. No, he said, I'm surprised because what I know of Peter, he's a good guy.

It was more kind of targeted for Han because I felt like he. He Juiced up the Macau Bridges trade. And. And I'm just not a fan. I think we traded away defense and toughness or offense. And I don't think the offense is.

What do you mean the cat. You mean the cat trade? You mean the cat trade?

No, he juiced up the Macau Bridges trade.

But when you say traded off the toughness, aren't you referring more to the cat trade?

I mean Mikel has good defense, but I wouldn't consider him tough or an enforcement. And I don't think he's that much better than Dante.

Yeah, but Dante was in the initial deal, was in the cat deal with Randle. So you're talking about. You're confusing the. That was picks for Bridges. The toughness went out the door for Cass.

That's right.

Was just the five first round picks, which is a.

Don't get me wrong, that's a hefty load.

It is. But that had nothing to do with their toughness or the character of the team.

Unless you knew what the picks would one day become, which would be interesting. How about the Griffs during Connecticut. Hey Griff.

Hey guys. You know, Alan was talking about St. John's earlier and how he can't. I think St. John fans should be happy if they get to the sweet 16. And the reason I'm saying that is Texas Tech is a pretty good team and earlier this year beat Houston. So if they run into, let's say Texas Tech in the Sweet 16 and they lose to a pretty good Texas Tech team in a very close game and a hard fought close game and they lose, let's say by a few. I don't think you can be disappointed because they weren't even supposed to make it this. They won the Big East.

[Alan Hahn]

They.

[Ryan Reynolds]

They end up a two season. The NCAA tournament. They. If they lose in the first round or the second round. Yeah, then you can be very disappointed. But I wouldn't say it would be that disappointed if you lose to the sweet 16 and then see very good Texas Tech team. So I wonder if you guys understand what I mean.

I do understand what you mean. You don't, Peter.

[Peter Rosenberg]

I just wanted to say that just.

I need to see what it looks like. All right. I always hate these conversations like this is what your record has to be in the NFL or this is far. How far they have to go. Let's see how they play.

If they get to the sweet 16 and they get a favorable matchup and they get blown out by 20 points. You might be sick to your stomach, but I think the sweet 16 is, I think, the minimum for a two seed. You're a two seed. If you're a legit two seed, then you're going to get upset. You really should make it to the Elite Eight based on the mathematics of it.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Right.

[Alan Hahn]

I mean, the only team that's better than you in your bracket is the one seed. And unless they knock you off every other time is going to be an underdog. But we know that's not the case because they don't have a lot of common opponents. They had their schedule, somebody else had some other schedule that will ultimately determine who's good or who. Now let's see how the matchups go. But anything before the sweet 16, I think would definitely be a disappointment.

[Peter Rosenberg]

But Griff, I'm with you. It is situational because that second game, even for the 1 seeds who get the 8, 9, sometimes the second round game is a brutal matchup. So.

[Ryan Reynolds]

Yeah. And that's. And they might run into an Arkansas team that we know is already tested because the SEC this year is absolutely a dog. I can't even believe they got 14 teams and they got 16 teams in their conference. They got 14 out of 16 in the tournament.

[Alan Hahn]

I was taught this a long time ago, Griff, when I was doing updates back in the day, back in the 10, 10 Wednesdays, hey, guys, how are you? I would get into the habit, Peter, of not being a huge college basketball fan, like where I knew every team so that we'd get to the tournament.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Yeah.

[Alan Hahn]

And 12 would play five and I would say huge upset. Or maybe, maybe it would be like a 10, 7 matchup and I'd say upset in the NCAA tournament, Utah beat Fresno or whatever. And then somebody would say to me, yeah, but the 10 was, was a seven point favorite. Like, you can't get too caught. Like you can't get caught up in the underdog of your seed because there's a very good. I don't think it'll happen to St. John's it's a two. But let's take a look and see where everybody is and what, what Vegas has to say because they kind of seem to know who's going to be.

Yeah, it's, it's, it's just. And by the way, even, even a mediocre Kansas team, I hate playing a mediocre Blue blood team because on a year in which they're considered a. Whatever you know what I mean? When you play against the kind of team that just routinely goes to the second and third weekend of the tournament, they're never teams you want to play the first weekend.

The biggest issue I have with St. John's is they don't have really any tournament experience. So they're a really good team, for sure. But now this once, that. Once they tip off 9:45 national TV.

No, the one person. The one person with tons of experience cannot pick up a basketball and play.

And he could try to impart that to them, but it's going to.

I saw a person who received, they posted a video and they said, I just got this from the person sitting in front of me who's flying with their baby for the first time. Edgar, I just wanted to say, with the Knicks, quickly Been a big Knicks fan. I've seen the Giants win, I've seen the Mets win, I've seen the Rangers win. In my lifetime. The Knicks winning is the last thing I have to do as far as bucket listed sports. And I think the Knicks team has presently constituted has a great chance. I know we have not, they have not done well against the Cavaliers and the Celtics this year. But at the same time we have, they have not played those teams with Mitchell Robinson healthy. So I think if they can get healthy, make a good run with Brunson and with Mitch there, I do believe the Knicks have a very good shot of making a deep run and getting to the third round.

[Peter Rosenberg]

I think, Edgar, that what makes the Knicks a fascinating wild card is the fact that we have not actually gotten a real look at them with healthy Mitch and healthy Jalen. So that is, that is very compelling. Compelling. Now guess what, Don, it just has to happen.

[Alan Hahn]

But if they beat the Celtics in the second round, aren't you going to expect them to beat the Cavs? And I listen, the Cavs just had their 16 game winning streak snapped where they've lost like 11 games. I don't mean to be disrespectful to them.

[Peter Rosenberg]

They'll start Orlando.

[Alan Hahn]

Yeah, but if you beat the Celtics, isn't this, doesn't this fan base have the right to think that they can go the whole way? Wouldn't Boston be the best team they'd play beyond the first round? Like if you look at the projected teams they would face, I guess it would be what, Detroit in the first round, Possibly Boston, second round, Cleveland Conference final and whoever Lakers Thunder. Wouldn't the Celtics be the toughest test for them?

[Peter Rosenberg]

I don't know.

[Alan Hahn]

I mean, or am I being disrespectful to Cleveland?

[Peter Rosenberg]

I think you're being. I think Cleveland's really good, man. And Oklahoma City is really good. They've both beaten the Celtics this year.

So it's going to be hard to do it. But I just knowing this fan base the way that I do because the similar thing happened two years ago when they faced Miami. It's like, oh, we're going to be Miami. And then you didn't. So always be careful. The director of blow was Ted Demme. Died in 2002 of a heart attack induced by accidental cocaine.

Go St. John's Ty, I think I got the stat right. The Michael had mentioned that I GUESS since the three, no team has ever won the NCAA tournament shooting under 30% from three. So they would try to be Bucket Trenton. But what do you do when you can't score, Peter? You play the kind of defense that they play. But I do think it's going to hurt them. The inexperience going to hurt them. Foul shooting and the fact they get off the slow starts, they get off the great starts in the second half and they do a lot of damage in the second half but be careful, they go to that well too often and then all of a sudden it's not there. So we'll see.

Know, the couple regions like the region with USC and Connecticut, that's going to be a tough one. USC beat Connecticut. Anyone who's thinking that Connecticut is a surefire bet to come out of that region, I don't know. Paige is looking okay. I think Geno's maybe trying to, you know, catch lightning a bottle one last go before she she graduates. But I am really tapped in. I feel women's brackets, I think it's going to be dope. But yeah, Happy Marsh Madness, y'all.

By the way, I think that's a thanks for the call, buddy. I think that is going to be a common thread that we hear. I do think this year you're going to hear more about the women's bracket than you have maybe in any other year previous, except for maybe last year. Are you kidding me? It was completely jammed when you left. And by the way, you also. You missed Don say, when I left, you were.

You were talking about you had your beef with Evan Cohen when I left.

Oh, yeah. But then a lot of things happened since then. That was 40 minutes ago. It's been a lifetime.

Don said this Dr. Occupinti is my dentist.

So, I mean, a lot of things have happened.

Now, are you willing to change dentists just to have Richard work on your mouth?

Well, the reason I brought it up was that if I lived close to his office, I would make the switch.

He's in Manhattan, right? I mean, what's the difference? You work at. In Manhattan. Couldn't you just get a little cleaning before the show?

Listen, Dr. Occupanti does a tremendous job, so I'm not in the market for a new dentist, but if I were.

You wouldn't find it uncomfortable that the entire time Richard would be giving you facts and asking you questions that he wouldn't listen to your answer? Like, the whole time he's either. Well, actually, I don't think he's the one cleaning. Right. There's. There's usually the. The assistant does the cleaning, I would think. Does the checkup after the fact.

I just. I don't, as much as I'm fond.

Never get out of there, Don.

We don't. We find that to just be a very normal behavior by a dentist who.

Stays on hold for sports talk radio literally all day long, the whole day. He's an unusual man.

Yeah. Now I'm gonna have questions about my dentist. Like, if he steps away. Excuse me, I gotta step away. What are you listening to?

He could be doing drugs. I'd rather have him listening to sports radio.

Yeah, guys. Gosh, you know, I can't think of a time with the Knicks in the last 25 plus years where something has ate away at me to the point where it's becoming an extent existential crisis.

[Don LaGreca]

You know, when you say 25 years, Lang, there's a lot of things I could probably point to you that I couldn't sleep at night.

[Ryan Reynolds]

But, Alan, this, this, you're telling me.

[Don LaGreca]

That that's bigger than all this?

Because it's traced to life and death. And there's very few things in sports.

[Peter Rosenberg]

True.

[Ryan Reynolds]

That come close to life and death. Carl Anthony Towns was out mourning the death of a loved one. I don't care if it was his aunt or his girlfriend or his wife's friend. It was someone special to him. Right. And this team did not stick up for him. And I hope they've heard this noise because not only have they embarrassed themselves, they've embarrassed their fans. I'm at a point where I don't really care if I watch the next game, and I watch every single game. I schedule my personal affairs around the Knicks. But I'm at a point now where if this team can't stand up for themselves and pick themselves up and fight for each other, then why am I fighting for them? So I'm just. I'm just discussing with the Knicks. I think this team lacks mental toughness. I said it three months ago, and here we are three months later. And we had some good pieces last year. Dante, even Trenzo sorely missed. And I hope we can make some changes in the off season. And I. And I hope next year we'll have someone on this team that can put Draymond Green on the floor.

[Peter Rosenberg]

I don't hate this call, actually.

No, I. I don't.

I. I don't think he should cut off his nose, despite his face. He's been a fan for that long. He shouldn't just give up on him for this. But I can understand you're being upset. That's why we talked about it as much as we have today, because I do think it's a thing.

I. Well, again, I said that too, Jake, because I pushed back on some moments that I could definitely recall, like, you know, having the worst record in the league and not winning the lottery when Zion Williamson was the prize. Like, seriously.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Well, that's not your fault. This was. This was in their control.

[Don LaGreca]

There's. Okay, all right. That. That, I guess, is fair. I'm not gonna waste the last two minutes going chapter and verse on things that were.

[Peter Rosenberg]

On other bad things.

[Don LaGreca]

Way more painful if you're a fan. But I will say, though, the way Lang explained it when he talked about the level of the disrespect, which included mourning the loss of a loved one, guys, I don't need to tell you that. That I've kind of gone through that a little bit here too much over the last couple of months. Right. I know how personal that was for me, and God help anybody if they would have questioned. Well, you know, I heard he missed the show because, you know, that some other reason. No one would ever mourning the loss of somebody.

[Peter Rosenberg]

No one ever do that unless it was Michael K. To me, every time I missed the show.

[Alan Hahn]

That is true. So we know. Personal experience.

[Peter Rosenberg]

Yeah, I know Michael has been my Draymond before, but.

[Don LaGreca]

Well. But still. But the way he. The way he kind of phrased it, I can see why. If fan would feel a certain way, as if to say, like. Like he did that. And nobody thought that was wrong.

[Alan Hahn]

Nobody thought.

[Don LaGreca]

That's what makes me. I'm going conspiracy theory. Like, I keep going, like, is there something else going on that I'm. I'm missing?

[Alan Hahn]

But.

[Peter Rosenberg]

But you're crazy. There's no conspiracy that makes sense.

[Don LaGreca]

No, no, it doesn't.

[Ryan Reynolds]

But.

[Peter Rosenberg]

But. But also. But this doesn't make sense either. I know. I know.

The only way it makes sense, guys, is that it just never occurred to him because they're. It's just not a thing. And that's the problem. That's the problem is that they didn't realize that that was an opportunity to stick up for a teammate. It's a shame, but that's the way it looks. And. And to. To his point, as far as how it hurts, it's one thing for your team to stink, not be good. Is there anything worse than being called.
