Peter Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Dime Han
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app and your smart speakers.
Peter Rosenberg
Let's update you on the computer. Alan didn't throw it. And good thing Anthony came in. Who's the MVP of the show today. He saved talk about it Tuesday. And he came in and let's see. He might have saved the computer. Let's, let's, let's people here at Good Karma.
Dime Han
You know, it's still a little laggy. Still a little laggy.
Peter Rosenberg
Listen, I know it's baseball. I know it's baseball and I know there's no clock except for the pitch clock and that, you know, but it's 124 Blue Jays. They just delayed the game like 10 minutes to fix them out. Just walk off the field. We'll try again tomorrow.
Dime Han
Just call it.
Peter Rosenberg
All right. It's top of the ninth inning. No, no, you're down eight.
Dime Han
There's a runner on. There's always a chance. You never know.
Peter Rosenberg
Stranger things have happened. Yeah, but not that strange.
Dime Han
We can get an eight run rally. Rally caps. Rally caps. Let's go, Jazz.
Peter Rosenberg
So the Yankees look like they're on their way to drop in the first two games of the series. And it would only be a one game lead the loss column. And we'll see what the Tampa does tonight.
Dime Han
Mad froze.
Peter Rosenberg
Tampa, I believe was playing the Dodgers, if I'm not mistaken, right? No, the Dodgers are playing the White Sox. So who are the Rays playing? They're playing the A. So, hey, you know, the Yankees only have a game and a half game. They could have both the rays and the J's 1 game back in the lost column.
Dime Han
Awesome.
Peter Rosenberg
And who knows what happens in the next two games here in Toronto. I'll believe it when I see it with the Blue Jays and the Rays.
Dime Han
It's just annoying.
Peter Rosenberg
This is annoying because it shouldn't. I still believe that they're totally winning this division and you don't have to worry about it. But we are in the second half of the season officially by the numbers. And they haven't been able to shake anybody. And they've been a pedestrian offensive team. Let's face it. They've pitched well, but you know, they've been lying just like the Mets over Reliant on the bullpen. And it'll be interesting to see how the second half is going to play itself out. So I keep telling you not to worry, Allen. And they keep playing. And listen, their last two series wins against Baltimore and the A's, well, those are two last place teams. Yep.
Dime Han
You're supposed to win those, but you.
Peter Rosenberg
Know, they lost, you know, lost to the Red Sox. They're going to best split the series with the Blue Jays and we'll even see if they can do that. And listen, they clubbed the A's on Sunday, but let's face it, the first two games left a lot to be.
Dime Han
Decided offensively, that Saturday was embarrassing.
Peter Rosenberg
It's. It's basically judging everybody else. Jazz has been good. Although I was thinking about you today and yesterday about how he's not great on the hot shots. He's not.
Dime Han
No.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. He's not. Oh, he's a, he's an okay third baseman, but he's not making the spectacular.
Dime Han
He's not terrible, but you're right. Like when again, hot corner, when it's coming in hot. He struggles, but you would expect that. He's a middle infielder. He's not a third baseman. But he's willing to do it. I give him credit.
Peter Rosenberg
He's willing to do all right. We did a lot of LeBron James today. NBA NHL free agency is in full effect. Rangers did some things as they're trying to reimagine their team. And I know a lot of Ranger fans hate Chris Drury and all that, but he was able to get Gavrikov on a discount. Got Cooley under, under $4 million in a cap sport. He's landing some things. And the Keandre Miller trade to Carolina, we'll see how that ages. Cause I do think there's potential there. But to be able to get a first round pick to move him out, there's a, there's a reimagining going on and that's what you want. You Just missed the playoffs. Okay, so stop hanging on to a, we're close to a cup, and then just realizing, all right, who stays, who goes? Kreider's gone, Miller's gone. You know, last year you traded Cocko away. You know, you hate to give up prospects, but at some point, you got to make the tough decisions and say, okay, are these guys going to pan out?
Dime Han
Right.
Peter Rosenberg
And then you start giving contracts. And were you willing to give Keandre Miller a contract based on what you've seen so far? Yeah, he was a highly touted pro. Highly touted prospect. Yes, there were times we saw flashes. But when you start paying guys and in baseball, you can live to regret a bad contract. In hockey, you cannot live to fight another day with a bad contract.
Dime Han
You're stuck with it.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah. 1-800-919-3776. Let's go to Rob on Long Island. You're on ESPN New York. What's up, man?
Rob
Donnie, long time no speak. And while I'm laying here recovering from surgery.
Peter Rosenberg
What happened? What did you get surgery?
Rob
I actually tore my right bicep muscle last week and had surgery and gonna have to do a three to four month recovery. It's called getting old. On.
Peter Rosenberg
Feel better, man.
Rob
I was on a boat. Thank you. I appreciate it. It's a little painful. And you don't realize when you're a righty and it's your right arm and how dominant you are with your right arm, you can't do anything. It's just really frustrating. But thankfully, today's been a day just to relax and listen. So before I talk about the rang. Quick, real quick, the Rangers haven't announced a color man for the TV booth this year, have they?
Peter Rosenberg
Not yet, I hope.
Rob
Do you have a chance to get the radio gig full time?
Peter Rosenberg
They're still working on that. We'll see how it goes. Because you still have Alex Faust in the mix, and so we'll see how that works out. But I'm really hoping Dave gets it. I've heard rumor I have not heard from anybody, so this is not any kind of inside information. But I did see somebody reporting that maybe Ryan Callahan, maybe they might go with Eddie O. I heard that.
Dime Han
Wow.
Peter Rosenberg
But here's the thing about Dave, all right? Dave puts in the work, and I'll let you. I'll rearrange your point, Rob, but like I was having a conversation with John Winthrop about this. These players have made such an outrageous amount of money over the last 20 years or so, even in hockey. Like to find a guy that wants to dedicate himself to be an analyst, to do every game, to travel. It's hard when these guys are sitting on millions of dollars. And unfortun unfortunately the guys that didn't make a lot of money, Rob, they're getting older, you know. So you wonder like how committed like with the Yankees. Why do you think the Yankees booth has so many different people rotate out of it? Because like I don't think Paul O' Neal wants to do 135 games. You know, Mets are lucky that they're able to get Keith and Ron that want to work a lot. So to have Dave, you know he's going to do every game, you know he's going to do the work. You know he bleeds blue. I really hope he gets the opportunity to do it. It'd be cool.

The days when you and I worked at that other station at Eddie Olstruck during the Ranger cup drive? He actually interned there and I just like this guy's. He's got it. He's a great guy. I love Eddie O but but let me get to the Rangers. I don't want to take up too much time. As far as the moves today. Gavakov, I love the signing. He put him with Fox. I was willing to let Miller go and for that kind of money, that's ridiculous. Cooley was the biggest move today. They got to build around that kid. Now here's what I would do. This is to me a transitional year for them. I don't expect much from this team this year. They're going to go all in for McDavid next year if he's unsigned. But what I would do right now, looking at the Panthers and how they play hockey, you've got to get more physical. I don't need superstars. You got one big trade ship on this team right now. Alexei lafreniere. If I'm the Rangers, I call up Montreal. He's a Montreal kid. I talk to Jeff Gordon. I say, hey, let's move LA frontier. And you give me back Josh Anderson, who is a speedy, physical winger and you give me Patrick Lainay who can still score on the power play and give them some offense. You got to change the chemistry of this team. They're not going to get much for the Banajet. They might move Panarin as the deadline, but that's the move I would make. They just got to get tougher and stronger. But so far so good for Joy.
Peter Rosenberg
I got to tell you, I mean I know Patrick Lynn a's had his issues, but he was so good for Montreal down the stretch. I know he's a French Canadian kid. I don't see a fit in Montreal. Panarin might go with the deadline, but if you're convinced that you're not going to be a competitor and you just traded with within your division, you ever want an indication? Alan, in any sport, when a team believes that they're not competing for a championship is when they're making deals in their division. Like you just strengthened Carolina. So what you're saying is I don't think we're competing for you with the division. I think I might be able to make the playoffs, but I am not. I don't mind making you better to win the division.
Dime Han
Yeah. I'm going to take your, take the assets from you and you get better. Who cares? Because we're not in, we're not on the same level right now. We're not competing against each other.
Peter Rosenberg
So now if you know that, then why not try to deal Panera now? Rather at the deadline you get them for a full year. If you're a team making a deal the beginning of the year, he we're probably not going to resign him at the end of the year. Why wait till the deadline if you really want to get value? I'm saying, like, listen, I know you got a goaltender in Igor and you got some pieces where you feel you could be competitive.
Dime Han
You can't wait too long, right. Because you got no, I mean Shisterkin's in his prime. So what you're trying to do is whatever this you call the reimagments. I love that phrase. But whatever you're doing with this roster, it's not like this is a four year rebuild. This has to be like, okay, we're going to, we got to reset for a year and then we'll be back at it all in by next season. Right. That's how you got to feel.
Peter Rosenberg
Oh yeah. That's why I say reimagining, because this is, I think Rob said it. Well, you know, this is the transition year.
Dime Han
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
And luckily you still have some pieces where you might be able to be competitive, maybe sneak into the playoffs. So it's not a waste of a year. You're not going to be the San Jose Sharks, you're not going to be the Chicago Blackhawks, but at the same time you're also not going to be competing for a championship. But next year when some of this money comes off the books and free agent class is a lot better, then you might be able to really strike.
Dime Han
Exactly.
Peter Rosenberg
So I think you Got to put yourself in that position. So to have Panarin for half the year as opposed to, hey, maybe I can get even more for him, trading him, you know, during the course of the summer, I don't know. He's also got a no trade clause, so there's a lot of the, you know, a lot of things you got to do there.
Dime Han
Remember his story was he was like, I think he was like a on the verge of signing with the Islanders and then changed his mind. The Rangers jumped in at the last minute and he jumped to them because he wanted to be in New York City. So, you know, again, like you're looking at, I don't know what the Islanders are doing. I don't even know what the, what kind of cap space they have right now. But if you're talking about trading them in division, there's not many options to really send them to and what you can get for him. But if you're the Rangers, you got to decide whether you're in or you're out. What is. Michael always says to have pregnant thing. That's never the way to go into a season.
Peter Rosenberg
But you know, hockey is odd where you've seen teammates make runs and you figure, oh, if Panarin gets hot in the playoffs and then you got Sturken stand out on his head, you maybe we make the playoffs and maybe, maybe we, we. We upset in the first round. There is always that temptation because as long as you've got your Sturkin and other people, you're again, you're not going to be at the bottom of the division, you would think, and you don't.
Dime Han
Want to be for long because you have him in his prime and you want to take advantage of a goalie in his prime.
Peter Rosenberg
No, absolutely.
Dime Han
Let's go to the final 12:5.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, 12 fall. They kind of run.
Dime Han
They get a run. Oh, boy.
Peter Rosenberg
Dave in Smithtown, you're on. Don Hanna, Rosenberg.
Dave
Hey, guys, you know, a couple things. First, I'm glad that Kenny Albert's going to be doing tv. It's just frustrating how he misses so many games due to football in the beginning of the season. But I'm glad he's going to be there. A couple things on LeBron. Look, obviously you all knew that Aaron Rodgers were older when it got to the Jets. You know, Gretzky was older when it comes to the Rangers. I mean, I'm sure LeBron keeps himself in good shape. So it'd definitely be an interesting. Then of course he's going to run the team. Who needs A coach. But, you know, this Ranger talk has got me thinking, you know, a lot of good points today. You know, what kind of McDavid, I would love to have someone like that. But you know what's funny? I heard, you know, I heard Philly, I heard Detroit as possible landing spots. But, you know, if you left Edmonton, I mean, that franchise came close twice. They had a run where they missed the playoffs 10 straight years. I mean, I hate to say it, but that franchise, it may go up, may as well go out of business a few weeks because he's, he's the one link they had to winning a cup. And you know, the fail two years in a row, it's very Buffalo Bills like. And I just wanted your opinion on that.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, you wonder, is it just, hey, we can't win it, or Florida just has our number. But it's tough, man, to just keep going back year after year. I thought this year they weren't going to do it and they didn't win the division and they took a little bit of a step back in the regular season, but, boy, they just had the right matchups in the postseason and they went. But we were just talking about the excitement around LeBron James coming to New York and how much the league would like to see that happen. You know, same for, you know, gary Bettman and McDavid.
Dime Han
We talked about this during the Cup Final, right? Didn't we? Yeah, because it reaches the point of, if you're him, do you think you can win? And then he. His statement after the final about assessing his future or doing what's best for his future and his family and all those things, you know, that's not nothing. That's not nothing for a guy like him to say something like that.
Peter Rosenberg
SNY TV just tweeted this out. It's. It's not an exclusive. They just did the math. The Mets And Yankees had two of the three best records in baseball entering play on June 13th.
Dime Han
Yes.
Peter Rosenberg
At 45 and 24 were the Mets and the Yankees were 42 and 25. Since then, the Mets are 3 and 13. The Yankees are 6 and 12.
Dime Han
My God, 3 and 13. I mean, 6 and 12 is just, is bad. 3 and 13 is just brutal. And both teams have the same issue.
Peter Rosenberg
Same issue.
Dime Han
Bullpen can't score. Running runners in position.
Peter Rosenberg
Now the Yankees pitching is better. That's why they've won a few more games, because they've got a Max Freed. But Free didn't have it today. And now you've gone deep into the bullpen. And now that could affect you tomorrow because how many times is Mark Leiter Jr. Going to pitch before it becomes an issue?
Dime Han
Supposed to be a great summer of baseball right now. It sucks.
Peter Rosenberg
I mean, they' they're both within striking distance. The Yankees still in first place, but it's getting interesting.

Anthony wanted to mention that he and N didn't get a chance with Darren Waller back at the NFL after a one year hiatus. But he's want to go back to the Giants. Giants traded him away.
Dime Han
Probably didn't want him either.
Peter Rosenberg
No, he's 32 years old, haven't played any year. He wasn't good when he was here.
Dime Han
Remember he said he lost his desire, right? With football. He went through the whole thing with.
Peter Rosenberg
A divorce rap career.
Dime Han
Then he did that. Well, he was. He. Remember he did the song for his wife and that didn't go well?
Peter Rosenberg
I don't know. What was he expecting to do?
Dime Han
I don't know. But I guess he wants to play again. Maybe he misses the money, who knows. But it's, it's, it's a, you know, for the Giants. Just keep it moving. That's in the past.
Peter Rosenberg
It moving. 1-800-919-3776. We're keep it moving. Take up a little 7 o' clock. Mets rained out. Yankees just lost. So let's hear from you. Kevin and Great Neck, you're on. Don Hanna, Rosenberg. How are you, Kevin? Hey, guys, good evening.
Rob
Hope you're enjoying your summer.
Peter Rosenberg
Yeah, it's been fun.
Rob
I just have quick two. Two quick Nick points. What would a package look like for LeBron? And also my second point is, what if you do a trade for LeBron and Giannis becomes available like a week later?
Peter Rosenberg
You don't want, you don't want to.
Rob
Just trade your assets and Giannis becomes available after a week or so. So what would you do?
Dime Han
I think you'd know. First of all, on the Yanis front, you'd know that's not going to be a secret. I don't think you get caught by surprise on that. I think if you're Milwaukee, you're looking for more than what the Knicks can offer already, and I think they know it. I would probably keep an eye on San Antonio when it comes to Giannis. I think everybody sees all the assets they have. They would have. They'd be able to blow anybody else out of the water. And I do think San Antonio has their eyes on that situation.
Peter Rosenberg
But what does a trade look like with LA if they make this happen?
Dime Han
Well, like because of the, the rules, you. You're going to have to. You can't take back more money. So you'd have to take. You'd have to match the salary and you're talking about 52, 6. And so you got to look at your roster and find players that combine for that number. It might take more. You might have to do three for two because it's just again, to make the money work. So you're talking about two significant players for one.
Peter Rosenberg
So Yevicelli's a center that could replace Mitchell.
Dime Han
He's forward center.
Peter Rosenberg
Can he. Can he replace Mitch?
Dime Han
No, no, that's not, that's not. Replacement Mitchell Robinson. But he's not a seven footer. Yeah, Michelle, he's like 16.
Peter Rosenberg
So what do you do if you trade Mitch? How do you replace him?
Dime Han
You hope Ariel Hook Porty can emerge and become somebody useful off the bench?
Peter Rosenberg
So I'm a little bit. Last year.
Dime Han
Yeah, a little bit. He was all right. Like he wasn't terrible. Like he's got potential.
Peter Rosenberg
So to answer the callers, but you're.
Dime Han
Trying to win a championship, you want veterans.
Peter Rosenberg
It's probably Mitch and OG or Cat. Right? That's what it's one. Right. That's probably what you're looking at, it's.
Dime Han
Probably a combination of those three and then like another, you know, like Bridges. But I think they're all. It's. There'll be some combination that. That equals 52. It's really. To me, it's. What do the Lakers want? It starts there because you can offer them things. They go, I don't want that now. You know, they want a center. You know, if they have Luca, they're going to want. I mean, they'll probably rather have Mitchell Robinson, but Towns could fit. And where. This is all hypothetical. We're all just playing the game right now.
Peter Rosenberg
But if this is going to happen, these are the things.
Dime Han
These are the things. Yeah. The thing that really hurts you the most is like, if I'm. If I'll do it this way, if I'm Rob Pelinka, I want OG Anunoby and Mitchell Robinson.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Dime Han
Because that adds up. That's what I want. And if you're the Knicks, you're like, no, we don't really want to do that because now you're taking all your defense.
Peter Rosenberg
Well, would you do it? If it's take it or leave it.
Dime Han
That's what we're doing. That's.
Peter Rosenberg
But again, the leverage of what LeBron. LeBron's going to be in Poland. Because they're too right to say no. Make this happen. I want out. Are they going to say no?
Dime Han
If you're. Well, if you're Polinka, I'm going to get what I can out of this asset. Right?
Peter Rosenberg
Oh, of course.
Dime Han
Now, keep in mind, if they take on an obi, there's a lot of money left on that contract. Do they want that With Robinson? There isn't with Towns, There's a lot of money left on the. No, no, I'm sorry. There's two years left in the contract. It's not a lot. No. Like, so, you know, Bridges, you have to give them an extension. You know, you could get Bridges and then just walk away from them after a year. And you keep. You create some flexibility for yourself going forward. So, again, it's. What do the Lakers want to accomplish right away?
Peter Rosenberg
I guess my point is, if you.
Dime Han
Want flexibility, you look for the contracts that are ready to expire sooner rather than later.
Peter Rosenberg
But do you get into a point where it's like, listen, I'm not playing for you. I'll retire, so get something for me.
Dime Han
Oh, LeBron. Yeah. No, I don't think he'll do that.
Peter Rosenberg
He won't do that. No.
Dime Han
Because he wants his Retirement tour, man.
Peter Rosenberg
All right, but. But a retirement tour on a team that's. That's going to go, you know, not make the playoffs, get bounced in the first round. Speaking of which, we had a video talking about this earlier in the show and our buddy Frank Fleming. Frank the Tank.
Dime Han
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
Responded. You're supposed to walk with him. I did walk with him.
Dime Han
Not next week. Maybe next week.
Peter Rosenberg
I walk with him. It was coming up 4 degrees outside. You might walk 104.
Dime Han
Yeah, I might have to. I might through.
Peter Rosenberg
He responded about LeBron. No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Dime Han
So he's against it.
Peter Rosenberg
I guess he's going to have. I don't know what gave you that.
Dime Han
Idea of a great conversation about this when we do get our walk. Let me. Let me find out what day this walk is.
Peter Rosenberg
You don't even know. No, when I went.
Dime Han
Actually, I think it's next Monday.
Peter Rosenberg
Okay.
Dime Han
Yeah.
Peter Rosenberg
This Monday coming up.
Dime Han
The Monday coming up. I do think it's less than a week. I think it's the 7th. Yeah, it's Monday. All right.
Peter Rosenberg
We got lots to do tomorrow. We're going to start at three. We got a list. We might have given you a little bit of a hint what the list might be.
Dime Han
I can't wait for.
Peter Rosenberg
So we'll dive into that. What's new with LeBron? What happened with the Yankees and Mets? We already know the Yankees lost. The Mets rained out. But we'll get you ready for all the baseball. So we'll talk to you again at three o' clock. Alan, safe home. Yes, you too, Jacob. Great job as usual on Don Han Rose.
Dime Han
Thanks for listening to the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast. I don't want to know how the sausage is made, man. I just want to know. It's good. Hear more of Don Allen and Peter weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers.
Episode: Hour 4: Yankees Lose Again
Release Date: July 1, 2025
In this engaging fourth-hour episode of the Don, Hahn & Rosenberg podcast, hosts Don La Greca, Alan Hahn (referred to as Dime Han), and Peter Rosenberg delve deep into current sports narratives, primarily focusing on the New York Yankees' struggles, the New York Rangers' strategic moves, and hypothetical trade scenarios involving NBA superstar LeBron James. The conversation is enriched by interactions with listeners, providing diverse perspectives and insights.
The episode opens with a thorough analysis of the New York Yankees' recent performance. Both Don and Alan express concern over the team's ongoing losing streak and its implications for the season.
