This is the Don Hahn and Rosenberg podcast.
Alan Rosenberg
That sounds like heaven to me.
Don Hahn
Listen live weekday afternoon starting at 3 on 8 80, ESPN, the ESPN New York app, and your smart speakers. Don, what kind of rice do you like?
Alan Rosenberg
Pork fried.
Don Hahn
Pork fried. You know what I like, Ben? Rice. That's how you answer an inning like that. Five, two, Yanks, top of the ninth. Great little extra run. That's all. A little breathing room. Good job.
Alan Rosenberg
Album cut from Jacob. From Black Sabbath off of the Volume 4 album.
Don Hahn
Are you sure you want to double check? That's.
Alan Rosenberg
What do you think? Where did that come from?
Don Hahn
Jacob, you didn't even hesitate. It was a strange poll.
Alan Rosenberg
Good.
Don Hahn
That's not a strange pull.
Alan Rosenberg
Strange pull for me.
Don Hahn
Nothing better than a B side. Nothing better than a B side.
Alan Rosenberg
But if you hate the Eagles like I do. This was interesting. I heard this this morning. I don't know if you heard it at all.
Don Hahn
Alan, why do you hate the Eagles?
Alan Rosenberg
Eagles? Why would I not? Why would I not?
Don Hahn
Giants fan.
Alan Rosenberg
Giants fan.
Don Hahn
But hate is like, you don't respect.
Alan Rosenberg
No.
Don Hahn
What Howie Roseman has done. No, I do at least, like. At least acknowledge, like, all right, I don't like seeing them win, but, like, that's like. I acknowledge, like, the Celtics. I can't not appreciate what Brad Stevens has done there and what they've become. Again, as much as it pains you and it makes you sick, it's like, you got to tip your cap, man. They do it, right?
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah, but let's not. It's not like the Eagles are rattling off Super Bowls, okay?
Don Hahn
Oh, I'm sorry. How many have they been since you've won your last one?
Alan Rosenberg
I know, but they got two. Okay, don't start throwing the Celtics out and comparing.
Don Hahn
Okay, no, no. Recent Celtics is what I'm saying. Recent Celtics, kind of back to a standard. They got a chip. They got to one. It's kind of similar. You don't. You don't want to. You hate them. You hate them.
Alan Rosenberg
Okay, well. But I would think any respectful Giant fan would. Would be. Would despise the. I hate the Eagles more than the Cowboys.
Don Hahn
Hate them more than the Cowboys. Yeah. See, I don't get that, but I'm not a Giants fan, so I don't understand it. How could you hate the Eagles more than the Cowboys? In my lifetime, the Eagles have hurt me Way more than the Cowboys have.
Alan Rosenberg
It's true. I mean, I can think of many big wins against the Cowboys. I get the only. You got that one. Play up a couple of playoff wins against the Eagles, but a lot of heartbreak. The 08 Donovan McNabb coming into our building and beating us.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
You know how they've embarrassed us lately that playoff game. Ceriani has got a very punchable face. You're right. Howie Roseman is tremendously respected and he's very good at what he does. But I hate that color green. I'm disgusting. Andre Waters was one of the players I hated more than anybody. Andre Dirty Waters.
Don Hahn
Okay, I like this. I like this. This is good. This is a great perspective into the mind of a Giants fan.
Alan Rosenberg
I would, I would think, you know, Dave Rothenberg agrees with me. Andrew Anthony Pusick agrees with anybody that is a Giant fan. Hates the Eagles more.
Don Hahn
More than. Than any other Cowboys.
Alan Rosenberg
Now, the Cowboys are irritating, but again, they, they got big wins against them recently. Cowboys haven't won anything in over 30 years.
Don Hahn
So is it wrong that I still hate the Dolphins more than I hate even the Patriots?
Alan Rosenberg
Why? Because. Because your childhood, they. They took a lot more from you. That was a championship game. The AJ Dewey game.
Don Hahn
Please don't give me. You know what that does to me. But it's just something. Also, even though they haven't. Even though my team, my, my sad sack sorry ass jet team has won more playoff games and has been to conference championship games way more than the Dolphins had in the last 30 years. Like, it's not even close yet. There's something about them. They're phony fans. The whole thing they do every time they. The way they cheat down there. There's something about that franchise that I can't beat them enough. Can't beat them enough.
Alan Rosenberg
Well, that's how I feel about the Philadelphia Eagles.

Now. Jeremy Fowler wrote an article.
Don Hahn
Jeremy, Jeremy, what'd I say?
Alan Rosenberg
Jeremy Fowler wrote an article talking about that apparently Jalen Hurts, a Super bowl champion. Two time super bowl appearance. Appearance. Er, if there's a word. Appearance.
Don Hahn
Er, yeah, sure. Appearance. Appearance.
Alan Rosenberg
E. Yeah, appearance. It's a bit of a problem in Philadelphia.
Don Hahn
A problem.
Sports Analyst
Jalen Hurts, despite immense success, is facing some frustrations now within his own building. Mainly sources point to an issue with coachability that even in 2024 when they won the super bowl, coaches trying to implement new schemes, motions and shifts, maybe more things under center hurts is pushed back to those at times they feel like changes within the huddle to play calls have been excessive. At times even you know Giving signals to receivers, you know, hand signals, a change of play that weren't installed in the offense. So those are things that have just sort of come to a head despite all the winning that they've done. Passing attack has not diversified in recent years. And now you have another coaching change with offensive coordinator Sean Manion coming in. It's a situation where there's a moving train that Jalen Hurts now has to get on.
Don Hahn
You know, he sounds like Car. Anthony Towns. Oh, very similar, though, except, of course, he's at least got a ring. No, no, I'm talking about Hertz.
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah, yeah, you're right.
Don Hahn
The pushing back. They're not wanting to change things and all that stuff and. But it's interesting.
Alan Rosenberg
Well, I'll tell. This is what I would say about Philadelphia. Put my biases aside. They're not. I'm sorry. Sirianni is not a great head coach. And I don't think Jalen Hurts is a great quarterback.
Don Hahn
He's a very good quarterback.
Alan Rosenberg
He's a winner. He's not. He's not an elite quarterback. But Howie Roseman is amazing.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
And he has built and acquired so much talent over the years, but they can't help but win. But you're starting to see signs where it's going away, that it's not sustainable, because where they need to be good, they're not. They've got a really good quarterback, not a great quarterback. And I don't think they got a good head coach. They keep changing all the coordinators and getting coordinators, and Roseman's really good at that, too.
Don Hahn
Now, I understand that he's, again, he's kind of like a nozzle, and he's got a punchable face and all that stuff. But what is it about Sirianni that you don't find to be a good coach when they've had nothing but success? Now, it is true that they do tend to fizzle down late in the season, that they've had issues. I think he's not. I don't think he's a great leader of men, but prepared to play and succeed. I think he does a good job.
Alan Rosenberg
Well, again, he's not an awful good. I just don't think he's the reason they win.
Don Hahn
Oh, okay.
Alan Rosenberg
He's got a lot of talent. He's always had great assistants. Anybody will tell you the coaching comes from the assistants.
Don Hahn
Of course.
Alan Rosenberg
You know, and he's always had great assistant coaches on both sides of the ball, but I just don't think he's a leader. Of men. And I don't think he's a championship caliber coach, even though he has won a championship.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
And I think you're starting to see now where, listen, talent, believe it or not, in the NFL more than any other sport, will only get you so far. Eventually the erosion of the system and the leadership, the problems will end up being a problem and not be sustainable because it's not just about talent in the NFL, coaching still matters. Schemes still matters. And Howie Roseman can supply them with all of this underrated talent. If they're not getting the quarterback play or the head coaching, coaching that's needed, it's gonna be a problem. It sounds like Jalen Hurts is a major problem. And the reason he's probably become a major problem is because the coach doesn't know how to correct it, doesn't know how to deal with it.
Don Hahn
Well, I think that's, that's the thing is I think he enables a lot as a coach because he wants, he wants to be friends. Like he wants to be liked. You see the stuff, the way he carries on and stuff, like there's a lot of that. Like he wants to be liked. And it's probably his youth, he's young. The A.J. brown stuff, you can tell, has come to a head. And all indications are they will move him because you have to. And a lot of that is the head coach could never really get him right. Never had. He was never happy the way they played. The only thing you made him happy is to feed him the ball, of course, like any wide receiver. But the problem with that is that they're a better team when they run the ball with Saquon, they're just better.
Alan Rosenberg
Right.
Don Hahn
And so he couldn't handle that. And then the Hertz thing, I do think that there's a disconnect with him and Hertz. I do think that he enabled him early on. And then it became, now it's out of your control now you can't reel him back in. And there's something going on there because remember, Hertz became the quarterback there because the veterans on the team, that some of them are gone now, but that group saw Carson Wentz as an outsider who never really was comfortable in the huddle, as a guy that command the group. And when Hertz came in, they saw somebody that was in control and self confident and, and because he was younger, a lot of the vets were like, I'll go to war with that, with that guy because he's prepared and he know, you know, all the things that you would say would inspire a huddle. That's what they saw. He was still humble at the time. I don't know what he is now, but it's pretty clear that he's no longer that same guy. And I wonder if that's causing some of the issues with this team, you know, like. Like the coach can't reel him back in. The veterans that were there that first recognized that they loved him and they were choosing him over Wentz, they're not there. So who's going to fix it?
Alan Rosenberg
But you look at that division, you
Don Hahn
know, they're still the best team. Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
You know, will Jalen, will Daniels come back and be healthy? Are the Giants ready to take that big of a leap? Philadelphia could still win the division.
Don Hahn
I think that. I know that nobody wants to buy into this, this, but I'm telling you, and I know the Giant schedule is tough, but there's something with them that I, I don't know. I still think they could be that team that if you take them lightly, they're going to kick your ass. There's just some, the first year with the coach or the coach that's got some, you know, gravitas, there's going to be an attitude change. And then, of course, the health of neighbors. Critical.
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah.
Don Hahn
You know, scatter boot critical. What do they do in the draft? And then dart and the fact, the way Harbaugh talks about dart tells you they know. They think they got somebody the way they're. They're. I don't know. Like I said, I just think something special with the Giants could be brewing this year.
Alan Rosenberg
But there's one particular thing I don't want them to do. We'll talk about that. Finish up your calls at 1-800-919-3776. Down on the Roseburg at all seven. And it's Dan Grasse leading it to Knicks Grizzlies on ESPN.

Go. Jalen Brunson tonight for next general ankle soreness.
Don Hahn
It's. It's a back to back. Sure. And you're late in the season and you're playing the Memphis Grizzlies. I defy you to name one player playing tonight for them. Can you name one player off the top of your head that might be playing for the Grizzlies tonight?
Alan Rosenberg
John.
Don Hahn
Say it. You both all said it.
Alan Rosenberg
John Moran.
Don Hahn
John Moran is out for the season.
Alan Rosenberg
I know, but I didn't have it cowherd.
Don Hahn
Cedric Coward. Right? 11th overall pick. Collins cousin. Yes, sure.
Alan Rosenberg
Big country. Reeds Reeves.
Don Hahn
That's a good poll. Big country. That's a Vancouver Grizzlies to you and me.
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah, that's right.
Don Hahn
Three, two, pitch. Here we go.
Alan Rosenberg
Play that Ben Rice. Home runs looking pretty big right now as the Mariners massive have the tying run at the plate. Bednar is gonna have to throw his 40th pitch here.
Don Hahn
This is not good, Anthony. Where are they tomorrow? Off flying home. Oh, beauty. That's right. The Friday's the Friday. Friday. We have the Friday home against the Marlins. All right, good. So at least Bednar can rest the arm that's gonna be falling off him right now.
Alan Rosenberg
So he's got, you know, that he got out of the jam.
Don Hahn
Duval didn't have it. Duval didn't have it. He's been very good the first couple of games here, but Duval didn't. Oh, where's this going? Get under that. Judge. I think the game's over. Five to one for that's five. Five and one. That's a good start. It's a good start. Little third six and over. We'll take five more.
Alan Rosenberg
Just hurtful that he doesn't even listen to us.
Don Hahn
You guys don't even care. I care. I'm invested. Well, why do I not care?
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah, why wouldn't you, Anthony?
Don Hahn
You're right there. You should just be happy that I'm all right. Fair enough. Then I'm updating you on the good news.
Alan Rosenberg
I wouldn't give you a game.
Don Hahn
The Yankees win.
Alan Rosenberg
So no Brunson tonight shouldn't be a big deal.
Don Hahn
No. What if it is, better not be. Well, Josh Hart called the. Josh Hart called the team out last night.
Alan Rosenberg
That's it.
Don Hahn
So you need Josh Hart to have a big game.
Alan Rosenberg
135, 86.
Don Hahn
Towns have a big name. You go on. 135, 86. Yeah. What if I could bet that if you hit that Don, write it down, somebody. Can you imagine, let's see how close don gets to 135, 86.
Alan Rosenberg
There'll be no complaints. And then that's. That's exactly what you're looking at now.
Don Hahn
There was something you said you don't want the Giants to do.
Alan Rosenberg
Well, this Odell Beckham stuff. Listen, I know nostalgia, and Harbaugh is just a nice guy, so he's not going to shoot down anything.
Don Hahn
Mm.
Alan Rosenberg
Dude. Yeah. You didn't play all the 25. You barely did anything with Miami in 24. Your last touchdown was in 2023. That would all be just a placate as he go to come back and do something positive for the Giants. I'm good.
Don Hahn
All right.
Alan Rosenberg
I'm good. If I thought he had something left, I'd be able to get over the insults to Eli Manning and all the antics when he was here. And I still look back at that catch against the Cowboys is like the worst thing to happen to Tom Coughlin and the Giants ever. And I cringe every time I see that catch. They look back. Created a monster to the Cowboys. It created a monster. The whole Josh Norman incident and Tom Coughlin battling to save his job at the. You know, bite the bullet on a guy that he probably would love to bench, but because he needed his job and he needed Odell to be out there. I'm good. I. Listen. If Harbaugh sees something and thinks it could help us win some games, I guess I don't have a kick coming. But to me, this just feels like Odell wanting to close out his career where it started, and you're kind of doing him the favor. I'm good.
Don Hahn
Do it.
Alan Rosenberg
Let the Giants do what they want, but I'm good.
Don Hahn
But you don't like. You don't. He's not going to be the same anything.
Alan Rosenberg
Well, that's like. He's nothing. I mean, I can't imagine that he would be able to control. Like I said, he didn't play all of last year. Hardly played in Miami in 24. Hasn't scored a touchdown since 23. I mean, I. How old is he now?
Don Hahn
30. 33, I think.
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah. I mean, 32. It's not that old.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
But you know, he's been banged up. Listen, good for you. I don't like to see these guys not get a chance to play. But from a Giant fans perspective, I'm good.
Don Hahn
You don't want him around Malik Neighbors at all.
Alan Rosenberg
Well, how does that benefit neighbors unless he's become a veteran? And I know Harbaugh had him in Baltimore.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
And he loved him some decent seasons.
Don Hahn
Said he loved him in Baltimore.
Alan Rosenberg
But I'm just telling you I'm good.
Don Hahn
I get it. No, I understand. For you, it's more of just the reminder of what that era was about. That's what gets you. Like, I don't really want a guy from that time around because I don't want to remember. Listen, I'll roll here. Of course you will.
Alan Rosenberg
But I just. I feel like you'd be just doing him the favor. But who knows if they feel like they need a wide receiver.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
You know, more powerful.
Don Hahn
What do they got Darnell Mooney on the other side now? They brought him in. Let's see what they do in the draft. Be interesting if they go wide receiver in the draft.
Alan Rosenberg
And Harbaugh we trust. So I guess if he wants to bring him in, then maybe he knows something I don't. But I'm just telling you from a fan perspective. Okay, I'm pretty good. Let's go to Muhammad on Long Island. You're on ESPN New York.
Caller Muhammad
What's going on, guys? Thanks for taking my call, man.
Don Hahn
Gotta go to Mo.
Caller Muhammad
Yeah, I didn't know if y' all touched on the jets or not. I was listening to the Mets game, but I think Ty Simpson was one of the. Was one of like the top rated quarterbacks when the season started. Right. And then he running back got hurt. He lost a couple old linemen. And then I think he had like a rib injury.
Don Hahn
Yes.
Caller Muhammad
I think all of those misfortunes might work out for the Jets. Like Barts was saying this a couple of weeks, maybe two months ago or so. But if the jets could even get him with the 33rd pick, which is like the first pick in the second round, or move up and trade that 33rd and try to get to 32nd so you can get that extra year for Ty Simpson, I think that'd be great. But not at 16. If we could get him at 33 or even 32 would be better. So we get that fifth year, that'd be great.
Don Hahn
But I'm so glad you brought this up. You know, I'm glad you brought this up, Mo, because this is Don we didn't have a chance to talk to Don because Don loves mock drafts. And we never had a chance to talk to Don about the latest Matt Miller mock that had that scenario that he's not taken in the first round at all. And the jets then take him with their first pick of the second round pick, number 33. And to me that I'm okay with that.
Alan Rosenberg
You can't have a problem with that because.
Don Hahn
Okay, now some people would argue, well, you don't get the fifth year option, blah, blah, blah. And I'm thinking, no, no, no, the second round pick means I got two first rounders and I didn't need to use any draft capital to move into the first round to get this guy, if that's a guy I need. And I think Aaron Glenn kind of revealed something when they were asking him about him. And he likes him, but he's like, you know, it's not as long as we don't have to reach. He doesn't feel like he said something along the lines of reach. And I thought that's, that's revealing. That's saying you don't want to take him too high. But if he's somewhere where he's. He should be slotted. Yeah, he'd be great. We could take him and so maybe that's where it is. And we'll see if it falls. Falls that way. That's not a bad place to get him if you can get him there. 16 is obviously the feeling is that'd be too high.
Alan Rosenberg
Yeah. But 33, you can't have a problem with that.
Don Hahn
No. Why not? Yeah, why not get him. See what he turns into. And if nothing works, guess what you can do next year? Take another quarterback.
Alan Rosenberg
Right now you still need a lot of other things. So at 33, you might be able to get something, but you need a quarterback. Maybe. If that's usually where you would take a project.
Don Hahn
Yeah.
Alan Rosenberg
Now they don't necessarily have a great history of second round picks.
Don Hahn
Christian Hackenberg, number him. Although Gino was a second round pick
Alan Rosenberg
right then they got him back. Yeah, he's going to take him to the Promise. Still here and be the morning show. Ripped him.
Don Hahn
Didn't we all decide.
Alan Rosenberg
How can you say, well, I bought a misspeak by. By Glenn, like he's not talking about the super bowl, man.
Don Hahn
The whole context of the quote tells you what he's saying about promised land is we have a quarterback that can get us into the end zone. Which let's remember that was not easy for the jets to do last?
Alan Rosenberg
No, it cost them games, games they
Don Hahn
couldn't get
Alan Rosenberg
going into last year. I was really down on Glenn's relationship with the media. I thought there were times that I thought he just didn't treat the media well. And, but, but I'll defend him here.
Don Hahn
I do not believe I'm with you
Alan Rosenberg
talking about Super Bowl.
Don Hahn
I'm with you. People need to understand that's not what he was saying. It's obvious it wasn't. It's not what he's saying if you hear the whole context of the quote. But because it's the jets, it's easy to just use it as another reason to laugh at them. And so it's cheap, cheap humor.
Alan Rosenberg
Now, Moose and Richard hang in there because Dan Gross is coming up. Oh yeah, he's got a 30 minute show before we hand it over to our coverage of the Knicks and the Grizzlies again, no Jalen Brunson, little maintenance on the ankle.
Don Hahn
You're saying 138, 86.
Alan Rosenberg
136. No. What did I say? 135.
Don Hahn
506. 86. All right, I got book it.
Alan Rosenberg
We'll be back. We'll better than tomorrow at 3 o'. Clock. Don Han and Rosenberg, ESPN New York.
