I love to welcome on 10 time Pro Bowler, 10 time All Pro, two time NFL. Sorry, three time NFL Defensive Player of the Year, two time Super bowl champion. The only unanimous defensive selection for NFL mvp, the real LT Lawrence Taylor.

Hello, everybody. Okay, I'm just happy to be here and I'm going to answer whatever questions he asked me. I'm not going to ask no questions. Hey, this is his show, so let's get it done.

Thank you. I appreciate it. It's a tongue twister to get out all of your accomplishments. You did so much in my eyes, and not just my eyes, but many others eyes. You're the greatest defensive player of all time. You are the goat. What accomplishment meant the most to you?

[Lawrence Taylor]

You know what accomplishment meant the most to me? I think I went 86 when I was NFL MVP. That was a big, big deal. And, and just playing with the Giants, I mean when we first came in, when I first came in, Giants hadn't been to a playoff game in 25 years or something like that. So just be able to get to that playoff and, and play well. Bill Parcell, Bill Belichick, Ray Perkins, I'm telling you, they, I have gone through some great coaching, A great coaching, you know, and I'm just happy that it turned out well. Yeah, tell you what, I'm happy it turned out well.

[Mystic Zach]

Couldn't have turned out much better.

[Lawrence Taylor]

Well, it could have, but. It could have, but, but I had a, I've had a great time playing with the guys I played against, playing with the guys I played with. You know, you're thinking about it coming out of college that you, you know, you, you want to do well, you want to be in the pros, you want to make money, you want to do a lot of different things and you can't stop. I mean, you can't say, well, just because I've been drafted, I'm going to be able to do all these things. No, you got to work. Yeah, you got to work. You got to put it. You got to put it in perspective. And luckily, I had a great coach, which I consider him a great coach. Bill Parcells.

[Mystic Zach]

Yeah.

[Lawrence Taylor]

I mean, I consider him a great coach, and he helped me throughout the years to be the man I am.

[Mystic Zach]

Elaborate on that. What was your relationship like, both on the field and off the field with Coach Parcels?

[Lawrence Taylor]

Well, Bill understood. Hey. That he's. Hey, he understood that he's the coach, but I would do what I want to do. Yeah. Actually, you know, I am. When I go out on a game day and stuff, you know, and I've had, you know, all kinds of problems and stuff like that, but hey, night on football Sunday, not on football Monday.

[Mystic Zach]

Yeah.

[Lawrence Taylor]

You know, hey, when. When I go out on the field, I want to bring the best I can to be the best. I want to be the best player on the field, you know, And Bill, he understood that, so he allowed me to do the things I do. He allowed me to do it. You know, he. I remember he telling me he just get on my. On my. On my butt all the time about, you know, you gotta do this, you gotta do this, you gotta do this. And every time I didn't do that, I always made a big play, was a big play, because I know if I'm out of position, you better do something good or you're going to have to listen to him. All right? So he said that he would say something like, okay, I'm going to let you do it your way.

[Mystic Zach]

Yeah.

[Lawrence Taylor]

He said, I'm going to let you do it your way. If you want to do the defense this way or you want to go here and there and stuff, I'm going to let you do whatever you want to do. But soon as you screw up, you gotta do what I want you to do. And that was a deal we had. So I didn't have to listen to him for next 10 years. But Parcells is hell of a coach. Yeah, he's a hell of a person. And I'll tell you what he made. I was a great player, a good player. Parcell's made me a better player just by with him. Yeah, he did.

[Mystic Zach]

We talked about your love of golf.

[Lawrence Taylor]

Yeah.

[Mystic Zach]

Have you gotten to golf with the basketball goat, Michael Jordan?

[Lawrence Taylor]

Oh, yeah. But we play a lot. We play a lot. And Michael say of a very good player. We go back and forth. But there's one thing about Michael, you got to understand, all right, that Some hate to lose, okay? And at the end of the day, you can beat him on every hole. He's going to pressure on that last hole. He's going to press you on that last hole and dig. Listen, hey. And you got. I mean, this is one time and this is not all the time, because listen, we go back and forth. We go back and forth. I'm beating this one time and he's down about, I don't know, like 19,000 or something like that. So he wants to double the. The last hole. He wants to double the last hole. Man, I done kick. I done beat you all day and now you want to double on the last hole I went in. Because Michael's like this. If you don't double him on that last hole, then you'll never play with him again. He was not allowed, but so we double that. So he lost the last soul.

[Mystic Zach]

Yeah.

[Lawrence Taylor]

So we're sitting there and he waiting to get paid, but we was at a casino and not only did he pay me, he actually gave me a tip. I'm like, well, that was. That was the most unbelievable thing I've ever said. You got your kicked and you gave me a tip on the wall. But don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that I'm a better golfer than Mike. I'm not saying Mike's a better golfer. I think we both are compared to each other and we enjoyed the game. And, and when, when I see him, I don't care what type of smile I got on, on my face, I'm trying to whip his. And that's the same thing. Hey, he's going to try to.

That's legendary.

[Lawrence Taylor]

Yeah.

Growing up, I heard about that legendary 86 Giants defense you mentioned, the legendary 85 Bears defense with Singletary and Richard, the 2000s Ravens defenses with Ray Lewis and Ed Reed. In today's NFL, with all the rule changes that affect the defensive player, do you think it's possible that we see a defense that physical and that dominance?

[Lawrence Taylor]

I don't think we'll see another defense like that because the rules don't allow it. You know, you can't hit the quarterback, you can't hit. You can only hit the running back at a certain spot, like about 3 inches down from the waist belt. So, I mean, stupid stuff, okay. To play good defense, there got to be some intimidation. Okay. It's not about when I go out on the field on a Sunday. Sunday morning and going to a stadium. It's not that I'm going to play the best that I can play.

Yeah.

[Lawrence Taylor]

But the thing is that I've already got a reputation. People are already scared of what I'm going to do. So I'm. So listen, hey, that's. That's where you, when you can win the battle before you even get off, get off the bus. Oh, my God, it's great. And that's what I enjoy.

A lot of people would say with the rule changes today, it's maybe a good thing because there's a lot more offense, more touchdowns, more scoring. What would you say to that?

[Lawrence Taylor]

I'm a defensive player. Why the hell. I want that. Yeah, yeah, I want that. I know. Listen, I want a lot more scoring. And so that's not what I'm looking at. Then why even have us out there? Yeah, why even have us out there?

[Mystic Zach]

You can't play. You know, why even have you out there?

[Lawrence Taylor]

I understand. You know, you say, well, you know, they're trying to make the game where you don't get hurt. What kind of game is that? What?

[Mystic Zach]

Yeah, that sounds crazy, right?

[Lawrence Taylor]

Listen, NFL. In the NFL, we hit. Yeah. We run, we hit, we tackle. That's what we do. And sometimes people got to get hurt, but we, we will wish them the best. Okay, Maybe, you know, send them a card or something. But hey, we got to play. This is what we do.

You know, you guys, the game is physical. I like a physical. I can't have no fun if we're going to have two hand touch. No, I'm not having no fun like that. Yeah, I understand that, but I don't want people to get hurt. But guys, I, I learned a long time ago, if you're going half speed, if I'm going full speed and you go in half speed, you're going to get hurt. Yeah, okay. Or if I'm going. Or you going full speed and I'm going half speed, I'm going to get hurt. So listen, the thing is, go full speed, less chances of getting hurt. And at the end of the day, you go home or the game's over, they come over and they shake your hand, say, hey, enjoy that. That was physical.

Given you played in such a different era where it was that much more physical and you had that playoff dominance and you were not only the most feared pass rusher, but the most dominant run defender. What do you think when people try to compare your name to a player in today's game, like a Micah Parsons.

Oh, that's. That was a cute way to get in there. Okay. But Michael Parsons, I'm quite sure he's. He's a.

I mean, I've. But she hadn't asked that question because at the end of the day, it's not fair comparing the Giants nowadays. Giants to the yesterday Giants because, like, when I was playing because we actually had to hit people. Okay? You know, right now I don't know what type of football they're playing, but it's different type of football that I played. Yeah, but that's the way the league is, okay? And they have good quarter, a great quarterback. Name say great. I'm not going to say great because great. They have a good quarterback, they have a good running back. And to have a good team, it's just that they have to put it all together. Now. How the heck do you play the other night and you want to play? Was it the secondary? I mean, prevent defense. Prevent defense, yeah. What the hell are you preventing?

[Mystic Zach]

Because I believe I tell you what you're preventing. You're preventing your team from winning most of the times.

[Lawrence Taylor]

Because at the end of the day, I didn't kick your butt for three quarters. Three and a half quarters. Three minutes and three quarters, eleven minutes. I mean eight minutes and 32 seconds I've been kicking your ass. And all of a sudden I wanted that going. Now I want to play prevent.

Makes no sense.

[Lawrence Taylor]

No, listen, no prevent. And I understand, I understand that is always the call because back in our day that was always. Everybody thought, well, listen, if they're going to score, we're going to make it harder for them to score because that got use more time and get down the field. But they're looking for a dag on field goal. The guy can kick. He can kick a 50 yard field goal. What the hell you looking at? Yeah, hey, send the dogs in. You know, and that's what I. That was one thing I liked about Bill Parcel and Bill Belichick. They send the dogs in. All right? They send the dogs in. They gonna listen the secondary been sleep all day. Let them go ahead and sleep. We gonna send the dogs in. Yeah. Okay. That's what. Well, that's how football goes. But we keep on going. Yeah. More questions. Give me some more.

[Lawrence Taylor]

Favorite. See people? Oh, he's a fast quarterback. He's athletic quarterback. He's jaws. Jaworski. I sacked Jaworski 28 times. 28 times. 28 times. And they said, oh, he's not. But Cunningham, who's his. I sacked him 27 times. What the hell? Randall Cunningham 27 times.

So I mean, it's. I enjoy because, you know, we go out there, we have a good time and I play physical i8 man covers and we let you have the little. I don't want them to have nothing. No, let's go. You know, but I tell you, I enjoy the game. I enjoy the camaraderie. I enjoy the good, the bad, the ugly. And some of the guys, most of the guys that I played against were still friends to the day. They know. I know what they're not going to give up. This guy right here, Jaworski or Cunningham or Theisman or. They ain't gonna give up, you know, and you're not going to learn that. You're not going to earn their respect.

Yeah.

[Lawrence Taylor]

Just sitting at their. No, you got to go. You got to. You got to teach them. Let them know that I know that you know that you can't beat me.

Okay. There's that mutual respect.

Yes, absolutely.

Of you and the guys you win against.

Absolutely. And you can't play football unless you have that type of respect for guys. You know, if you just want to play stupid football, then they're going to play stupid football. But let's say guys, we take on. At the end of the day, I know what you're going to do. I'm not looking to hurt you. You know what? I'm not looking to hurt you because I got to respect you in the first place. And that's. It's all about respect and Dagon and giving them what they deserve. You expect. You think? I know you having meetings on the Mondays and Tuesdays and Wednesdays and all that stuff. And they're going over, hey, listen, hey. And they come up to Lawrence Taylor so and so such. Well, hell, you deserve to get the Lawrence Taylor that you want on Sunday night or Sunday or whenever because you work so hard for it. You deserve it. I got to give you my best.

So when you're out, you're thinking about the fans at home and that you need to put your best effort through because you know, they're willing to.

Because in certain days, you know, everything don't work the way you want all the time. But hey, I believe in giving my teammates, the other team and the fans, I believe in giving them what I got.

Was, it was, it was good. I made a good financial decision there. But let me tell you something. He was probably one of the best athletes I have ever seen. I mean, even in NFL, when I see all these, the big guys and stuff, and he was, he was huge, but he couldn't move. He could. One of the best athletes I have ever seen. I'm telling you what. And I'm serious. I was shocked. I was amazed. Bam. Bam was. I remember when, I remember, you know, had this thing where he gets up on the top rope and stuff, and he looked at toe. He told me, man, listen, I'm a climb this rope. I'm gonna climb this thing. And then he says, listen, I'm gonna jump on you. Don't move. Yeah, so I'm sitting there, I'm sitting on the thing, and he sit there. And you never know when he's gonna do it because he started riding coming up that post and stuff. And he came off that, and all I could do just close my eyes, man, I'm like, hey. But he is. It was like, hey, it was cool. I mean, this guy was probably one. Seriously, if he had played football and been like a offensive lineman or defensive lineman, I think he could have excelled in that because he was a hell of an athlete.

How nervous were you going into that? Is that, is it a different feeling than getting ready for a football game?

No, no, no, no, no, no. I get ready the same way I get a bottle of scotch and then I sit there and I'm.

Out there besides the wwe. You also had some legendary acting appearances, you know, but any given Sunday, even appearances in the Waterboy, the Sopranos. How was that for you?

[Lawrence Taylor]

I mean, I tell you, I. I've done about 14 films, and I enjoy. I really do enjoy doing the films. All right, we're going to go back to where my was this 1993. I was involved in drugs. I had a bad little habit and stuff, you know, and I was in a rehab for, I mean, 60, 70 days, 80. I don't know how long I was in for. For a long time. And just so happened, all the Stone comes to the rehab because he wanted me to be in the movie any given Sunday, right? And so I told him, well, I would love to, but I can't because, you know, I got a commitment of. I had to be. I had to stay. Stay this thing for, you know, like 70 days or something like that, right? So just so happens. So we all sudden, they start shooting the film down in Florida and stuff. And he said, well, why don't you just come and be a. A technical guy, you know, for. We show so that we doing things the way football players really doing stuff and stuff. So, hey, I got out of rehab and. And I go down and I watch the practice. So they had Michael Duncan Clark, you know, from the Green Mile and stuff. Well, he was playing the part that they wanted me to play, right? It was. And the problem was we were going through. We were going through scene. He was really. He's big, but he's not aggressive, you know, he's not aggressive enough. He was not aggressive enough. So the director, he actually said, listen, hey, in the locker room, we got. Can you go in and put on, like, a helmet and put on the uniform and all this stuff and put the gear on and come out here and show Duncan how it's supposed to be played, right? So I said, man, what the hell? So I go out and I do this whole scene all by myself. And after the scene was done, the director, he jumps up, said, that's what I'm talking about. He says, ot, you hired.

[Mystic Zach]

Wow.

[Lawrence Taylor]

And he said, duncan, you're fired. Just like that. I'm so. But I had a great time making the movie. I'll tell you what, they had some great people in there. I had a great time doing that. So after that was over with, then I went out and found some other stuff I wanted to do. And with Jean Claude Van Damme and all those guys, I. I moved around and had a good time. Yeah.

What was your favorite role?

[Lawrence Taylor]

I would say my favorite is not the biggest role, but I think my favorite was Any Given Sunday.

Yeah, I think that was the. Because it was almost something that I knew a little bit about playing football.
