Title: Killer Clown Subtitle: The John Wayne Gacy Murders Author: Peter T. Maiken, Terry Sullivan Narrator: Sean Runnette Format: Unabridged Length: 14 hrs and 47 mins Language: English Release date: 12-19-17 Publisher: Tantor Audio Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 53 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, True Crime Publisher's Summary: He was a model citizen. A hospital volunteer. And one of the most sadistic serial killers of all time. But few people could see the cruel monster beneath the colorful clown makeup that John Gacy wore to entertain children in his Chicago suburb. Few could imagine what lay buried beneath his house of horrors - until a teenage boy disappeared before Christmas in 1978, leading prosecutor Terry Sullivan on the greatest manhunt of his career. Reconstructing the investigation - from records of violence in Gacy's past, to the gruesome discovery of 29 corpses of abused boys in Gacy's crawlspace and four others found in the nearby river - Sullivan's shocking eyewitness account takes you where few true crime books ever go: inside the heart of a serial murder investigation and trial. Critic Reviews: "Gripping." ( Publishers Weekly) Members Reviews: SCARRIEST BOOK I HAVE EVER LISTENED TO! I always enjoyed true crime stories. I cant believe any person could do what John Wayne Gacy did. Parts of this book made me sick. I think it is so graphic many listeners will need a strong stomach to get through the entire listen. I tried to feel sorry for this monster but I couldnt. Even though I dont believe in the death penily if ever there was one person that deserved death Gacey would be the one. He had to be mentally ill to Carry out these disgusting crimes. GREAT STORY WITH NO DETAIL LEFT OUT. If you havent listened to KILLER CLOWN use a credit. It was as great as STRANGER BESIDE ME and HELTER SKELTER. I lived in Chicago during John Wayne Gacys reign of terror and remember all the national news coverage that took place after he was apprehended. Thanks for reading my review. Steve MANDATORY Gacy book ! ! ! I was SO-Ooo glad to see this come to audiobook! Having this definitive crime classic already in my personal library, it was nice to be lazy and have it read to me :) Squeal. This is THE Gacy book to get if you can choose only one, or simply just want to avoid wading through the other trash thats out there. In fact, many movies and documentries that feature the Gacy case, often refer to THIS very book as the main source for their script/writing. Hardcore Gacy crime readers who have NOT yet discovered this gem (if they exist), will glean many new tidbits and interesting factoids for sure. This book was written 3 years after JWG was convicted in 1980, by the man who not only personally conducted the investigative work uncovering all the murders....he was ALSO the Prosecutor at his trial. Now thats first hand information! Obviously, yes it IS filled with graphic details...but how else can you tell the story of one man killing 32 boys and living with their rotting corpses right under his floor - and NOBODY knew? Wife(s), family, friends, etc coming and going all the time? Yeaaa. Worth that credit! Dont let the REAL crime be you not getting this! Amazing story What did you love best about Killer Clown? Details of the investigation and trial What does Sean Runnette bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book? His calm voice Any additional comments? For me bring Casy to justice in a non digital world was amazing. What a great team they were, and how this writer put it all together. Boring First Serial Killer book Ive come across that I just couldnt get through. Slow, tedious, repetitive and boring.

Title: The Accidents Author: Caleb Hannan Narrator: Jon Pinnow Format: Unabridged Length: 4 hrs and 39 mins Language: English Release date: 12-16-17 Publisher: Books to Life Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 5 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, True Crime Publisher's Summary: Had fate dealt Harold Henthorn an unimaginably cruel hand? Or was he a murderer? Harold Henthorn wanted to do something special for his wife, Toni, on their 12th wedding anniversary. But the romantic hike he planned ended with her broken body lying at the bottom of a steep cliff. In the aftermath of Toni's shocking death, grief wasn't the only thing shared by her friends and family. So was suspicion. Nearly 20 years before, Harold's first wife had also died under gruesome and mysterious circumstances - she was crushed to death under a car while changing a flat tire. Just as with Toni, the pair had been married for exactly 12 years. Two accidents decades apart. Two tragedies in which Harold was not only the lone witness but the lone beneficiary, too. It was a coincidence too extraordinary to believe. This time, Harold would pay - in a true-crime story of vows broken and a family's fight for justice. Members Reviews: Fantastic I was held the entire story, not only was this a tragic story the authors approach is Fantastic! I seldom give 5 stars on each point but I may have a new favorite author. It may seem silly however I even appreciated the epilogue when the writer humbly thanked the family for allowing him to tell their story. I have held onto a tragic story for many years hoping someday my tip could be passed along to an author I felt could tell the story with justice... I am currently contacting this author! I read hundreds of these stories every year and the one has taken a seat in the top 10.

Title: Garden State Gangland Subtitle: The Rise of the Mob in New Jersey Author: Scott M. Deitche Narrator: Joe Barrett Format: Unabridged Length: 7 hrs and 6 mins Language: English Release date: 12-16-17 Publisher: Tantor Audio Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 4 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, True Crime Publisher's Summary: The Mafia in the United States might be a shadow of its former self, but in the New York/New Jersey metro area, there are still wise guys and wannabes working scams, extorting businesses, running gambling, selling drugs, and branching out into white collar crimes. And they are continuing a tradition that's over 100 years old. Some of the most powerful mobsters on a national level were from New Jersey, and they spread their tentacles down to Florida, across the Atlantic, and out to California. And many of the stories have never been told. Deitche weaves his narrative through significant, as well as some lesser-known, mob figures who were vital components in the underworld machine. New Jersey's organized crime history has been one of the most colorful in the country, serving as the home of some of the most powerful, as well as below-the-radar, mobsters in the Country. And though overshadowed by the emphasis on New York City, the mob and New Jersey have, over the years, become synonymous, in both pop culture and in law enforcement. Critic Reviews: "Scott Deitche's meticulous and concise research, examines, for the first time, the complete, true account of organized crime in New Jersey. Delicately dissecting over a century of New Jersey's vast Mafia history, Garden State Gangland is a powerful research tool and a necessary addition to any crime library." (Avi Bash, author of Organized Crime in Miami)

Members Reviews: Terrifying? Horror? Not So Much for This Reader. In the context of this book I believe the terms "horror" and "terrifying" are relative terms. My definitions of those terms are obviously different than the author's. I am an older reader and have read many stories similar to these over the years so it seems rather repetitive to me. To less familiar readers these may seem scary, but for me, not so much. Editing was lacking in places throughout the book and I gave it three stars for effort in hopes the author hones their skills for improvement in the future. I Loved Each One Of These Stories. I really loved these scary stories. They were not to long that I could not read thru a few chapters before bed. They were scary and terrifying enough to hold my interest. I would recommend this little book to those who love to read about the paranormal and bizarre mysteries. . Well written I really enjoyed this book. I wish it was longer, I would recommend this book to others. Thanks Want to read more. Loved it! Well, I chewed this one up and spit it out! I didn't want to put the book down until it ended. I really enjoyed the theme of it. I do wish it was longer, but for short, it was a very decent read. It's that time of the year and all I want to do is read something scary and Hannah Tidy came through. Great author! The stories are very well written. If you enjoy horror/supernatural, this one has a great collection. I would definitely recommend. I am definitely interested in the authors Ghost Stories book, too. Sort Of Some stories were OK good, some kinda "what?" and a few downright bizarre. The author does present the question of "what the heck is THAT!"

Title: The Nest Author: Semaje Turnage Narrator: Andrea Amanahi, Semaje Turnage Format: Unabridged Length: 1 hr and 24 mins Language: English Release date: 11-22-17 Publisher: TURN OF AGES Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, True Crime Publisher's Summary: On the gritty streets of Watts, Los Angeles, crime and violence are facts of life. Guns pierce the air like fireworks, and bullets mark the scorched pavement like silent tombstones. Dreams are born, raised, and cut down in a never-ending cycle of blood and despair. Watching it all unfold from the confines of a jail cell, Tyrone Walker - also known as OG Ryder Blak - steps up to make his move. Tyrone knows all the players and dealers in the neighborhood, and hes going to do whatever it takes to make sure he controls Watts and beyond. The cold bars of a jail cell are the only things keeping him from walking these mean streets, but he knows he can take it all back from the pretenders who are happy to see him locked up. From the young foot soldiers to the battle-scarred OGs, The Nest - based on the YouTube series of the same name - is an ultra-realistic look at the life of the inner city. Power, respect, and survival all collide in a volatile mix thats about to explode. But more than a tale of violence and struggle, The Nest is a reflection of an America most people cant see. Caught in an alternative economy fueled by danger, the characters jump to life with unique experiences and viewpoints taken straight from reality. But underneath it all, they bear the burden and try to find the light just like anybody else. And thats where The Nest perfectly exemplifies the modern experience. These compelling characters may speak in a dialect unfamiliar to most people and have uncommon experiences, but underneath it all they are a reflection of this vast nation - the struggle to carry hope against strife, bravery against fear, and redemption against temptation. The Nest is really all about our attempts to find the light - and how, for some people, it can be a lifelong struggle. Members Reviews: A Brutally Honest Look At Something Most Want To Turn Away From The Nest is a brutally honest, well conceived story of the central character's struggles living in the Watts section of Los Angeles. Through the many trials and tribulations of the protagonist named RIDA and those he associates with, we see a side of life and a side of America that is all too painful, all too real, and one some of us would rather turn away from. Every aspect of the difficult things one may encounter in life in the inner city are covered from abject poverty, to various crimes, to time in prison. But for all of this bleakness, the book does contain moments that show humanity and decency. It begins with an absolutely extraordinary poem and then is narrated in the dialect and using the slang that are common in RIDAs neighborhood. This further adds to the authenticity of the yarn being spun as it definitely does not feel like something a journalist who has never lived the life being examined has concocted. Finally, it presents life in the inner city with a clarity that is rare, describes it in a gritty but real way, and has special significance after the atrocities that were committed upon Michael Brown and Freddie Gray and the recent anniversary of the L.A. riots. The book has very few flaws in my eyes. If there is one, I suppose it would be that having never even come close to living the life of the main character or being exposed the type of environment that was presented, it was a little hard at first to put myself in the shoes of RIDA or fully comprehend everything that was happening to him.

Title: He Said, She Said: The Spokane River Killer Author: Jon Keehner Narrator: Alex Zonn Format: Unabridged Length: 10 hrs and 2 mins Language: English Release date: 11-22-17 Publisher: Jon Keehner Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 1 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, True Crime Publisher's Summary: During the winter and spring of 1990, three Spokane area women were found dead, their bodies dumped along the Spokane River. The murders were similar enough that police considered them the result of one person and believed them to be the work of a serial killer. But as quickly as the murders began, the killings seemed to end. Detectives suspected the Spokane River Killer was either dead, incarcerated or had moved out of the area. Six years later, the bodies of murdered women once again began turning up all around the Spokane area. In 1999, Robert Lee Yates was arrested and police hoped they had finally found their killer. In 2000, he plead guilty to killing 11 women from the Spokane area between 1996 and 1998. During the investigation however, Yates was ruled out as a suspect in the 1990 slayings. DNA recovered from underneath the fingernails of the third victim was eventually identified as being from a man. But no match could be found. Their man was still on the loose. In 2009, DNA from a federal inmate was matched to the DNA recovered from underneath the fingernails of the third victim. The inmates fingerprint was also matched to a print recovered from a bottle of vaginal lubricant found in a dumpster along with the second victims discarded belongings. Police finally believed they had their man. But did they? The DNA match belonged to a female inmate. Members Reviews: Good story, mostly well written Presented differently than most true crime stories which is a plus in this case. Mostly well written but a good editing might have avoided some clunky wording. Love local authors and books I have read all books from Dr. Jon keehner and I really enjoy his work. Being that this book happened fairly recently and involved Spokane, I found myself googling addresses. The Dalton house is very close to where I work. Jon, I am impressed and look forward to your next book. Fascinating read Beginning of book, I questioned if I would like, what I interrupted a poetic type of writing style. Particularly for a true crime story. But quickly became mesmerized w/ the story. At times I even felt some sympathy for Doug/Donna Perryâs naiveness, his tortured childhood, his and his families mental health. (Would have liked to have known more about his father.) At the same time, I could feel the frustration his neighbors and law enforcement had because of his behaviors (and his family). It spoke a great deal to a law system that I realized I was naive to. The story challenges and makes one grapple with emotions and thoughts to prostitution, addiction & mental illness. For instance, why didnât I feel more sympathy for the prostitutes/ addicts. Summarized quite nicely by author at the end. Creepy, Strange and Captivating The book was well researched and written. The author really got into the head of the villain and his/her victims, as well as some of the periphery characters, too. Also, it was such a completely bizarre story. Truth is always more interesting than fiction, and this debacle's telling is definitive proof. It's a crazy, scary world out there, which is both terrifying and fascinating, at the same time.

Title: The Silencer Subtitle: The Silencer Series, Book 1 Author: Mike Ryan Narrator: Brian Hutchison Format: Unabridged Length: 5 hrs and 9 mins Language: English Release date: 06-29-17 Publisher: Mike Ryan Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 6 votes Genres: Mysteries & Thrillers, True Crime Publisher's Summary: CIA Black Ops agent John Smith is on his latest assignment in London. Little does he know, it'll also be his last. Barely surviving an attack on his life, Smith lays low for six months until he returns to the United States. He tries to prevent bad things from happening to innocent people while also interacting with several crime factions who are battling for control over the city. All the while, Recker begins to plan his revenge on Agent 17, who is responsible for a heinous act that Recker will never forget. Members Reviews: Kind of a mixture of Mike Hammer, Person of Interest and Denzel's the Equalizer As far as protagonists go, Mike Wrecker is a throwback. The thought of purchasing women's undergarments for a friend in hiding makes him cringe but a triple-tap in the chest of a bad guy, while not something he relishes, is no big deal. Author Mike Ryan rolls out his black ops anti-hero in the first of the Wrecker series with his origin story. Wrecker, not his real name, is set up on an assignment engineered by his CIA handlers to eliminate him. He'd been deemed radioactive. For what reason, he doesn't know. But Wrecker is a survivor, kills his would-be assassins and goes into hiding. But collateral damage haunts him. Ryan spends quite a bit of the narrative in Wrecker's head, explaining how he interprets things. He's a killer, and a good one. But he's got distinct set of values. He's a protector. After six months in hiding, Wrecker emerges, revenge on his mind. He'd been shot. But rather than intercept his former colleagues and have it out, he's taken aside by a fellow who calls himself David Jones. Jones, a former NSA employee, has a proposition: "Work for me and help people who need help." Jones has piggybacked a way to sift NSA data to find regular people who need help. With Wrecker he hopes to prevent murders, rapes and other unsavory acts. Wrecker's intrigued and joins up. And the fun starts. OK. So it all reminded me of "Person of Interest," created by Jonathon Nolan and starring Jim Caviezel and Michael Emerson with Wrecker as Caviezel's character and Jones as Emerson's. And even after reading the first five novels in the series, I still think so. However, that's where it ends. Wrecker's his own guy with his own demons and his own repressed desires. He wants a normal life, but he's hunted by the CIA. Only his association with Jones and his newfound role as the Silencer, a guy who does good without requiring anything in return, keeps him under the radar. At least initially. After consuming this, I read four more of the books like I was plowing through Mickey Spillane's Mike Hammer novels. And there are some grammar flubs and odd misused words, but generally Ryan conveys a hard-edged narrative about a hero who gets the job done. Silencer Enjoyed reading this. Love good guys win, bad guys lose kind of books. Look forward to more books with these characters. Reminds me of a tv show I also really liked A good read, even with some writing issues A good read, but Ryan needs a primer in English grammar and writing style.

Members Reviews: So gripping A fantastic book I was gripped from the beginning, you become so invested in the characters I wanted it to keep going with the story. The reader has an unusual pace that I had to get used to but his different voices were great .
