When Skechers says they've revolutionized how you put on and take off your shoes, they aren't kidding. I just got my first pair of hands free Skechers slip ins and I want them in every color. You literally just step into your Skechers slip ins and they're on. No bending, no struggling. They're fantabulous. I came up with that word. Feet gently slide in thanks to an invisible built in shoehorn. A heel pillow feature keeps your foot secure. Slip ins come in athletic and casual styles for men, women and kids. They even have sandals with special features and fits like Skechers air cooled memory foam. Arch fit, relaxed fit, wide fit. Once your feet have experienced hands free Skecher slip ins, they won't want to wear any other shoe. They certainly exceeded my expectations. You can find Skechers@Skechers.com DrLora or Skechers.com use the promo code DrLora. Valid for 20% off site. Wide standard exclusions apply. Valid March 5 through May 30, 2025. Hi Dr. Laura. Thank you for taking my call.
Dr. Laura
You're welcome.
Alison
I was calling to see if you might be able to give me some advice. I've been on a weight loss journey for the last year and I've hit a plateau and I'm struggling to move forward and continue to make progress. I've been struggling for a long time and I'm.
Dr. Laura
It's extremely typical for bodies to hit a set point plateau and stay there short periods of time, middle periods of time, lots of time. That's normal. But would you say that at this point you're healthier than you were two years ago?
Alison
Yeah.
Dr. Laura
Would you say. Would you say that you look better than you did two years ago?
Alison
Yes.
Dr. Laura
Well, that requires a celebration, not a downward facing mouth. This may taper off, this may stay this way. This may be as good as it gets, but it's certainly better than it was. And the body and hormones and metabolism do strange things. Some people can lose things fast and some people taper. I have a friend who is working diligently on this, I mean diligently, and has plateaued. But he looks better and feels better than he ever did. So sometimes we need to settle for better, not perfect.
Alison
Yeah, I agree. That's good advice. May I ask you one last question.
Dr. Laura
Or else you'll be hating yourself in life and that's not good.
Alison
Yeah, I agree.
Dr. Laura
Go ahead. Can I ask one last question? Yeah, of course.
Alison
Okay. So I've historically struggled with self image challenges and I'm having a hard time being myself in a smaller size and staying that way. Do you have any advice on how to kind of start moving past that and embracing that this is gonna fit.
Dr. Laura

Do you do you know who Mother Teresa was?
Alison
Yeah. Yeah.
Dr. Laura
She was one of the ugliest women on the face of the earth. Unattractive. Unbelievably unattractive. She's one of the most loved, revered human beings who ever populated the planet. Do you think if she spent her time on her self image. She would have sacrificed so much for others. She would have focused on the well being and the happiness and the health of others. No. So all I want to say is you're the one who's making yourself all about how you look, how you feel about how you look, how you think other people look about you, how you look. Who the hell cares? Are you a good person? Do people rely on you because you're so loving and kind? Well, can't we make that who you are in spite of how imperfect your body is?
Alison
Yes. I can do that.
Dr. Laura

Dr. Laura Call of the Day: “Rethinking Weight Loss”
Episode Release Date: April 24, 2025
In this compelling episode of Dr. Laura Call of the Day, Dr. Laura Schlessinger delves into the intricacies of weight loss, addressing common challenges such as hitting a plateau and struggling with self-image. Through her no-nonsense approach, infused with ethics and personal responsibility, Dr. Laura provides insightful advice to listeners navigating their weight loss journeys.
The episode begins with Alison reaching out to Dr. Laura for guidance on her weight loss journey. Having dedicated a year to losing weight, Alison finds herself stuck at a plateau, hindering her progress and affecting her motivation.
Alison [01:20]:
"I've been on a weight loss journey for the last year and I've hit a plateau and I'm struggling to move forward and continue to make progress."
Dr. Laura acknowledges that hitting a plateau is a common and normal phase in any weight loss journey. She explains the concept of the body’s “set point,” where metabolism and hormones adjust, making further weight loss more challenging.
Dr. Laura [01:26]:
"It's extremely typical for bodies to hit a set point plateau and stay there short periods of time, middle periods of time, lots of time. That's normal."
She reassures Alison that plateauing doesn’t negate the progress she has made, emphasizing the importance of recognizing and celebrating the improvements in health and appearance over time.
Dr. Laura shifts the focus from the plateau to the positive changes Alison has achieved. She encourages Alison to celebrate being healthier and looking better than she did two years ago, rather than fixating on the current stagnation.
Dr. Laura [02:15]:
"Well, that requires a celebration, not a downward facing mouth."
She further elaborates that personal growth often requires settling for being better rather than perfect, highlighting that the journey's value lies in consistent improvement and self-care.
Dr. Laura [03:01]:
"Some people can lose things fast and some people taper. I have a friend who is working diligently on this, I mean diligently, and has plateaued. But he looks better and feels better than he ever did."
Alison then brings up her ongoing struggle with self-image, despite her weight loss achievements. She expresses difficulty in accepting and feeling comfortable in her smaller size, seeking Dr. Laura's advice on overcoming these challenges.
Alison [03:43]:
"I've historically struggled with self image challenges and I'm having a hard time being myself in a smaller size and staying that way. Do you have any advice on how to kind of start moving past that and embracing that this is gonna fit."
Dr. Laura responds by urging Alison to shift her focus from physical appearance to inner qualities. She underscores the futility of obsessing over looks and encourages valuing personal attributes that truly matter.
Dr. Laura [05:59]:
"She was one of the ugliest women on the face of the earth. Unattractive. Unbelievably unattractive. She's one of the most loved, revered human beings who ever populated the planet."
Using the example of Mother Teresa, Dr. Laura illustrates that true impact and love come from inner virtues rather than outward appearance. She emphasizes that striving for self-worth based solely on looks is misguided and detracts from more meaningful personal development.
Dr. Laura [05:57]:
"Do you think if she spent her time on her self image, she would have sacrificed so much for others?"
Dr. Laura continues to reinforce the message that Alison's self-worth should not be tethered to her physical appearance. By focusing on being a good person—loving, kind, and reliable—Alison can cultivate a positive self-image that transcends societal standards of beauty.
Dr. Laura [06:54]:
"Who the hell cares? Are you a good person? Do people rely on you because you're so loving and kind?"
Alison responds positively, indicating her readiness to embrace this mindset shift.
Alison [06:54]:
"Yes. I can do that."
The episode concludes with Dr. Laura summarizing the key points: acknowledging and celebrating progress, understanding the natural fluctuations of weight loss, and fostering a healthy self-image rooted in inner qualities rather than physical appearance. She encourages listeners to prioritize personal growth and self-acceptance on their weight loss journeys.
Dr. Laura [07:00]:
