Hey everyone, I'm Ashley Banfield and this is drop dead serious. If you've ever wondered what it feels like to chase down leads in a real life mystery moment by moment, then look no further than the disappearance and highly suspicious death of Celeste Rivas Hernandez. She's from Lake Elsinore, California. You've probably seen the story everywhere on social media, all over the Internet and splashed across the news. 14 year old Celeste was found dead and very, very decomposed, possibly even dismembered. She was left to rot inside the trunk of a Tesla belonging to an up and coming R B singer named David. Spelled D4V D. His full name is David Anthony Burke. And since that grizzly discovery in his Tesla, the revelations in this case have only gotten darker. From raids on David's Hollywood Hill's expensive rental mansion to haunting accounts of Celeste's final days. And Internet sleuths are trying to piece it together in real time. The LA medical examiner hasn't said yet how Celeste died. They've listed no official cause of death and no official manner of death. Detectives are treating it like a homicide, but if they found anything concrete that proves it was a murder, they're keeping that part quiet. If you're just jumping into this case now, or even if you want a refresher or the full backstory, the timeline, all of it. I have put together a playlist with all of our coverage on Celeste's Disappearance and her death. It's right there in the episode description. But in this episode, we're going to dig into the newest reports and the latest news that's come out in this case. And later in the episode, I'm going to catch up with someone who has been smack dab in the middle of the chatter over a viral concert video that surfaced and totally blew up online today. Thousands of people were sharing clips of the video and swearing that it was Celeste in the balcony, catching loving signals from David, who was performing on the stage below. Wait until you hear what Charles La Bodiere, the executive producer of tmz, has to say about that viral video. He's coming up in just a moment. Let's get into the latest developments. If you caught the last episode, you'll remember the $20,000 a month mansion in the Hollywood Hills that was being leased by David's manager. At least it was in his name. Right? This is where David was living. And police raided that property for 12 hours, tearing through every corner, even the drains. And according to tmz, they were searching for blood evidence or even tissue that might connect back to Celeste. Only after that raid did David's manager abruptly break the lease and made some type of agreement with the landlord to move out. And they did. Moved out. We actually talked with the owner of the house and he said that he and David's manager agreed to the terms of breaking the lease. He also wasn't really super keen that his Hollywood Hills house was suddenly all over the news. And can you blame him? Who wants to be associated with a story like this or have all the looky loos coming around? According to tmz, the landlord insists that he had no idea that David the singer was actually living there, just his manager. And the owner had no clue about Celeste being there either. So here's what's new. When we pulled up the address on Google Maps parked right out in front of the mansion, you guessed it was a black Tesla. And if you look closely, you can see that the plates on the car are blurred. That's the policy of Google Maps. They blur people's license plates when they capture them in their pictures. But you can tell that the plates on this Tesla are a light color. And wouldn't you know it, Texas license plates are white. And that's where David's from, Texas. And his Tesla had Texas plates. This picture on Google Maps is dated May of 2024. To be clear, this is our observation. This is not part of the LAPD release or TMZ's reporting. And guess what is also pictured outside that home? Two security cameras. The owner of the house says you basically can't come or go without being recorded. But here's the twist. The owner claims he never keeps the logins to the security cameras himself. He hands that access over to his tenants so that they don't feel like they're being spied upon. So it's their choice. The tenants, in this case, David and his manager, if they wanted to use that security system, it was available to them. And just think what's available if they did use that security system. And can I just be like, Frank for a minute here? I've got cousins who live in the Hollywood Hills. I've been in the Hollywood Hills a lot. It is really unusual for people not to use their security systems up there. And there are lots of security systems and gates out in front of properties, right, that you have to buzz in through. So here's my guess. He's a singer. He's got a following. He's probably got some stocky kind of fans. So I'm thinking he's using the security system. I'm thinking that they want to know who's out there before we go to the door and open it up. I'm thinking there's probably recordings, which means there were probably some hard drives that had recorded plenty of comings and goings in that house. And I'm thinking if the cops raided that house, it's the first thing they go to, and the cameras and the recordings. So if they exist, think Diddy. Damn, they got a lot of stuff off them Diddy hard drives in those two mansions that they raided, they're going to go right to the hard drives right now. I'm also thinking if you were responsible for, say, the unexpected death of a young underage teenage girl and you needed to get rid of said girl, and if it happened at that mansion, are you smart enough to erase those hard drives? Are you smart enough to get rid of that evidence? Or do you not think you're going to be raided and you don't think of it in time? All the things that I am dying to find out once the LAPD decides, if it decides to release this information in a case, do they have video of Celeste coming into that house and never leaving? Do they have video of Celeste coming and going all the time? Do they have strange pictures of people coming out of that house with large containers? We see it all the time in murders, right? People think that they can leave their house only to be caught on Ring.com Ring cameras capturing them with big duffel bags or buckets. Strangely, when the person disappears inside, these are all the things my mind goes to. Let me be clear here. David is not charged with anything, right? David is not a person of interest or a suspect in this terrible discovery found in his trunk. These are where my questions go to when there is a suspicious death and when there's a death investigation. And the way that this girl's body was treated, left in a trunk to almost liquefy up and until her birthday, Yeah, I think it's all pretty sinister. So my mind does go to what happened before she was in that trunk. How did she end up in that trunk? Was she murdered? Did she die accidentally? Maybe an overdose, maybe an accident? And suddenly the people around her think, oh, Jesus, this is an underage girl. She's a runaway. We got to get rid of her. Someone's going to think we did this. That's a possibility, too. Or was there something else? Maybe she was pregnant, and whoever she was with fathering the baby didn't want the baby or the girl. That happens a lot in these cases. I'm in true crime. I see it all the time. Or maybe it was a fight, and maybe she got hurt, and maybe she died because of how badly she was hurt. All of these scenarios go through my mind, and I just know this is what the LAPD is chasing as well. All of these possibilities. What's the story that the house will tell them? As investigators pick apart David's world, they are simultaneously piecing together Celeste's world. They're retracing her steps. They're trying to understand the life that she was living. She'd run away before. Riverside county police logged at least three different missing person reports for Celeste. And detectives believe that she came from a troubled home, something that may explain why she kept leaving. TMZ also reports that Celeste may have used multiple fake IDs to get around and to appear older than she was. Investigators have also tracked those disappearances on paper, and it turns out that Celeste was first reported missing on Valentine's Day, 2024. And then again on March 18, 2024, TMZ spoke with a local liquor store owner who says that on that very next day, March 19, 2024, a girl, possibly Celeste, appeared on surveillance and seemed to get into a car just out of frame of that liquor store. Surveillance cameras.

They also report that Celeste's sister later came to that liquor store to review the videotape to see if it was her missing sister. And by April 5th, Celeste's family saw her alive for the very last time. She disappeared yet again. And not long after, another piece of the puzzle surfaced from somebody on TikTok. It's a photo that allegedly shows David in a beanie with pink writing slipping cash to a kid on the street. And the spot where this is happening Echo Highland, a brand new development just blocks from Celeste's family home. Why would David be paying a kid in Celeste's neighborhood out there on the street? Why would David even be in Celeste's neighborhood? It's 70 miles away from his Hollywood Hills home. Surely it's something police are following up on. But what stands out even more than maybe these photos of David and Lake Elsinore are the tattoos on Celeste's young body. When investigators opened that trunk of the Tesla, there were things that Celeste's mother had told the police that helped identify her quickly. She had a tattoo on her right index finger. You know the one when you put it to your lips and you say shh. Well, the tattoo had the letters S HH Just so happened it was the same spot where David has the exact same tattoo Saying, shh. It's really ironic, isn't it, that here we are trying to piece together a suspicious death and two players in this death. David, because he owns the car where the body was found, and Celeste the body, both have a tattoo saying, shh. Hopefully, for Celeste, people won't be silenced for long. There are some reports online that Celeste also had another tattoo, one that said David written in red ink, written down the inside of her ring finger. On the opposite hand, her left hand. This has not been officially confirmed that the second tattoo is Celeste's. But plenty of Internet sleuths have matched pictures showing a ring that she's seen wearing in a lot of pictures with pictures of a hand wearing that same ring and displaying that tattoo saying, David. A lot of screenshots have surfaced from Snapchat, and they appear to be from Celeste's account. A message was sent to that account that says, quote, not gonna lie, David kind of hot. And the account responds back with a picture of the girl's hand with the ring finger showing the tattoo of the name David. And interestingly, the finger is wearing an engagement style ring, and it is the ring finger, let's not forget. But what really lit up the Internet was a video from one of David's concerts on Aug. 24, 2025, at the Fillmore in Silver Spring, Maryland. He pointed to someone up in the crowd, up in the balcony above the stage, and he made a heart sign with his hands. The same girl later appeared in photos standing beside a man that many online believed was David's brother. And when those images are compared to pictures of Celeste, the similarities are freaky. I mean, honestly, they are uncanny. The girl in the balcony has the same chin, the same jawline, the same nose, and most importantly, the same signature hairstyle as Celeste. Brown, curly hair and lots of it. The girl in the picture is wearing a black tube top. And remember, the medical examiner confirmed Celeste's last outfit as a tube top. Black leggings, a yellow bracelet, and stud earrings. In the concert photos, the girl is wearing jeans, but still, that tube top. David actually played two shows at that venue, both part of what is now a canceled tour. So that video, it. It could have been shot on either August 23rd or August 24th. And that would be just two weeks before Celeste's badly decomposed body was found in the trunk of his Tesla. And if it could be proven that she really was in Maryland or anywhere else at the end of August, it would really, really tighten the timeline for when she may have died. But sadly, this Was a lead that did not pan out. It's not her. TMZ now reports that sources close to the case say the person in that footage, the girl on the balcony above the David performing on stage, is not Celeste. So if it isn't Celeste, who is it? Who's he sending love signals to now? Who looks a lot like a girl that he was pretty lovey dovey with before? At least if those images that we've seen so many of are Celeste. And where does this leave the timeline of things that we do know? TikTok detectives claim that they've pieced together David's entire August and September, overlapping with Celeste's disappearance. But let me be clear. This timeline up to September 3rd has not been confirmed by investigators. The crowdsourced timeline goes a little like this. August 8th through 9th, David is on stage in Dallas and Austin, Texas. And then three days later, August 12, David flies to Florida. And we know at this point that his Tesla is still in Los Angeles. Eleven days later, August 23rd through August 24th, he's on stage for the two shows in Maryland with a girl who looks a whole lot like Celeste, but wasn't Celeste. The next day, August 25th, David returns to LA. August 26th, David performs in Cleveland. And two days after that, August 28th through August 30th, David performs in Boston, Montreal, and Toronto. Here's where things are a little unclear. Four days later. There's a report on September 3rd that some neighbors spotted that Tesla abandoned in the Hollywood Hills, just a few blocks away from David's home. NBC, however, reported that the neighbors had complained that that car had been abandoned there for over a month. Regardless of the date, the neighbors reported it to the police because it had clearly been abandoned and something smelled. They thought it might be a dead Animal nearby. On September 6, the Tesla is towed to an impound lot. A day later, on September 7th, Celeste would have celebrated her 15th birthday, but she likely spent it decomposing in that trunk. September 8th. The next day, workers in the tow yard have had enough. They complain that the smell from the Tesla has become overwhelming, and they call the police. The police arrive and open the trunk, and inside were Celeste's remains, sealed in plastic, left to bake in the brutal heat of a Los Angeles summer in a black trunk. That trunk had likely become a virtual oven. We don't know the exact condition of Celeste's remains when the investigators made that discovery. Some reports suggest that she might have been dismembered and that she was in an advanced state of decomposition. But Even in that state, forensic experts know how to look beyond what's visible. They look into bone and tissue and trace evidence to determine not just how long she was in that trunk, but possibly how she died. Sometimes, and this is going to sound so gross, they look at entomology, they look at actual bugs. Sometimes the behavior of maggots and bugs on a cadaver can help you time the date of death. Sometimes the decomposition is so advanced, it's. It's way more difficult. But it is fascinating some of the science they use. As for David, well, there is still no official proof that David and Celeste ever crossed paths. That's official proof because the Internet is full of videos that sure make it look like they've been together for a while. What is clear is this Celeste, according to her mom, had a boyfriend who went by the name David. And the singer, he apparently had somebody pretty special in his life named Celeste, even wrote a song about her. And it's important to point out again that David hasn't been charged with anything. And police have not named him as a suspect. They haven't even named him as a person of interest. I spoke with TMZ's executive producer Charles Ledaboutier on my News Nation show, Banfield. They have been leading the coverage on this story, and so I check in with them every day. And today I wanted to talk a lot about that viral concert video. Again, it's my News Nation show, Banfield, 10pm Eastern on news Nation. Here's my conversation with Charles.
H
So I was so excited when I saw some video that purported to be video of potentially Celeste in the balcony at one of his concerts over the summer, which would have given us some timeline. It just, it didn't seem to pan out, though.
I
Yeah, you know, I get why people online were really into this video and thought that this was going to be critical to the investigation. There is this woman. The video is David in concert from. It's either August 23rd or 24th. He had two shows in silver Springs, Maryland, and there's a woman in the balcony who he actually acknowledges looks up at her. She certainly could have been Celeste. It looked like it. And, and a lot of people immediately latched on to this. But we have been told by a source that is connected to the case that it is not Celeste and therefore it doesn't do what we hoped it would do.
B
Right.
I
That if, if this actually were her, then we would know that she was killed within a, what, roughly 10 day period. At some point during those 10 days would have been when she was killed.
H
But so this opens up the timeline again.
I
Now we are back square zero, which is we don't know when she was killed. I do think that there could be some news on this very shortly and the reason to say that is her body was released to her family. Her remains were released to her family. That says that the, the LA County Coroner's office has completed all the testing that they wanted to do, that they needed to do to try one of the things the two things were really waiting to hear from them, a cause of death. I know that sounds strange because you know, we know that her body was chopped up and that the part, you know, they put the remains in the Tesla, but that doesn't say, it still doesn't say how she died.
B
Right.
I
It could be that she died from some, an overdose, could be who knows what and then her body was chopped up.
H
Celeste's body has been released to her family, which means medical examiner is finished. They have everything that they could possibly need. What we might just be waiting on now could be toxicology results, which sometimes can take some time.
I
Yeah, that toxicology is going to be critical and there's a couple of reasons why, like we said, that's going to help them potentially narrow down the window of when she was killed. But also there's been this long standing really it's nothing more than a rumor actually that people believe, well maybe she was pregnant and that's why someone decided to take her life, that that was inconvenient for someone for her to be pregnant considering the fact that she was, you know, 14 years old, that inconvenient.
H
And by the way, very illegal and evidence of that kind of relationship which is actionable.
B
Right.
I
So that is something that could, that they could determine from toxicology whether or not she was pregnant. So there's a lot to learn there from the, the remaining results that we hope to be getting from the, the LA county coroner soon.
H
Not only that, but if, and let's just, I keep prefacing this, David is not charged with anything. David is not a suspect. David is not a person of interest. And so it would be super curious to find out if, and again big if there were a pregnancy involved, they would be able to determine, hopefully despite decomposition, the DNA, you know, connection to the father.
E
So who the father would be, which.
H
Again, whomever it might be, if it is indeed even a possibility. Yeah, that would be a crime.

I
Yeah, that's. You know, obviously we still don't even know the real nature of this really. Even if it's just friendship, it's still kind of creepy the relationship between David and Celeste. And we also don't know if David was aware of her real age. One of the things that we have been told by sources connected to the case that she had a lot of IDs, a lot of fake IDs, and that some of them certainly would presented her as being 18 years old or older. And we know of course she was 14 at the time of death and you know, does. Did David know that she was that young and or did he see.
H
You know what Charles, I've seen some live streams that are very uncomfortable where a young Girl with the cleft chin. Just like Celeste has. You know, they're, they're live streaming and they mentioned something about underage girls and the whole thing is like, shut down. Stop this video mods. Can you delete this? And so it seems to me that there's some knowledge that something about being underage is a problem on that video with only the two of them in it.
I
And remember, we know that there was a comment on one of his TikToks back in February where someone made a reference to a waiting for LAPD to get your ass to come get your ass for, you know, for messing with a 13 year old.
H
So, yeah, and that's contemporaneous. That's before all of this. So you go back in time and contemporaneous commenting and evidence is critically important when you start realizing an underage girl was found in his trunk.
I
Exactly.
H
About, about the photos. There is rampant speculation and, and theorizing and conspiracy theories online. And a lot of it has to do with pictures that people photograph think are Celeste. And it's really clear to me that there are several different people in his world that look like her. For instance, the video of one of the songs has a girl who looks exactly like Celeste, the same hair, and it is not her. Her credit has a whole other name.
E
At the end of the video.
I
Yeah, we, you know, that was when we saw that rumor online. We looked at that video one day and broke it down. You know, we watched it backward, forward, we slowed it down, we froze on it. And really people looked at it for a while and they're like, it could be it, it could be her. But yeah, you know, it's. Look, you have a, a Latina young girl with curly hair and immediately everyone goes, oh, that's that, that must be her. That must be her. Because everyone is wanting to make links here. And like, that's what happened with this video from his concert. Look, some. It's just hard to tell. And the reason, normally we can verify these things because you can speak to someone who knew. You speak to a family member, you can speak to someone who was at the event. And those people have not been coming forward. And you know, obviously her, some of her family members, her brother spoke to NBC here in Los Angeles, but not on camera. And very early on and very early on. So it's just hard to find these people.
H
You know what, Charles? It's giving Idaho four vibes because the entire University of Idaho shut down. Kids wouldn't talk. And that's not normal in our line. Of work, kids always talk, especially teenagers and older teenagers and 20 somethings, they talk. But in Idaho, nobody, the police, the city, the university, the parents and everybody was locked down by the police and by the administrators, probably for good reason. It certainly preserved the prosecution. This might be what's happening here, that the players involved have been locked down by the police and told do not speak.
I
Yeah, it could be. It could be that. It could be that they are getting, you know, legal advice from someone telling them, aside from the police telling them that they shouldn't be talking about it. We did get one person to talk, and this is not a family member, but someone who knows the family. We spoke to the owner of a liquor store that is on the block, same block in Lake Elsinore where Celeste and her family lived. And he told us he was very familiar with the kids in the neighborhood because the school bus stopped right in front of his liquor store every day, and kids would come in, not for liquor, but come in to buy soda and candy and things like that. And he said that back in May of actually, Sorry, March of 2024, at a point when Celeste was missing, her sister came into the store and asked the liquor store owner, hey, have you seen her? Do you do your security cameras, perhaps have any footage of her? He told us that he went back at the sister's request, and he did look. And on March 19, 2024, he did see her in front of the store, go across the street and then down the street a bit and get into someone's car. He said by the time she got in the car, it was out of focus of his security camera, so he couldn't tell what kind of car it was or who was, who else was in the car. But he did see her. What's interesting about that is that it's the first time that we've had report of a family member actively searching, doing something, searching for her. We know that she went missing several times early in 2024, between January and April. But we were always curious. We talked about it a few days ago, like, why wasn't the family doing more to try to find her? This was the first instance where we heard of a family member actively out there searching.
H
That, to me, is really interesting because, you know, at this point, we know without question about her going missing in January and then going missing in April. But now this has her missing again in March, the month before her final report of being missing. And I know that TMZ is the only outlet who has been able to speak with Celeste's mother. But I'm still so curious as to why the police wouldn't have just marched right up to the Hollywood Hills where they found her the first time. And each time. Time this girl was problematically missing or not coming home, go back there and get her. Because it seems from all the videos and the evidence that that is clearly where she was.
I
Yeah, I mean, we know that, you know, that she. What we've been told by people in Lake Elsinore is that the police found her in Hollywood the first time in 2024 when she went missing. They brought her back, and we said, like, why wouldn't they go back to that same spot? Now, the problem is, and the police aren't saying, we don't know where they found her exactly in Hollywood where they found her the first time. Did they go back to that same spot, but she was in a different place. You know, maybe she wasn't there. We know, of course, that David, the home where police searched where they executed that search warrant is in the Hollywood Hills. Is that the same place where they found her in, you know, early 2024? We just. We don't know. And, you know, you mentioned we did speak to Celeste's mom, but I got to tell you, we have not been able to get back in touch with her. She has gone quiet. And again, this may be on the advice of legal counsel that the family members just aren't talking anymore.
H
Well, it could be the police told her not to, and it could be that counsel said, you are.
B
Have.
H
You've got some exposure here for endangering this child's life, for not having done more to get her out of a situation where you may have known she. I mean, she knew about a David. There had been these multiple instances of her going missing and then being brought back from the Hollywood Hills. So there may be something there where there's a concern for this family. Certainly they are in mourning, and they shouldn't be falsely accused of anything. This is a terrible situation for them to be in, losing their daughter in this horrific way where she was found, even on her birthday, on her 15th birthday. Let me ask you about the shows in Australia. There's still tickets available. I thought the entire international. This is weird. Thought the entire international tour, domestic tour, everything was canceled. But they still have tickets for December.
I
Yeah, it is very puzzling to me, and I don't know if that's just optimistic that David and his management are hoping that by that point, this is all gonna be cleared up and he's gonna be free to Leave the country. They clearly didn't feel like that was going to be the case for his European tour because they canceled those dates in October and November. What can you read into that?
B
Right.
I
Can you read into that that David has told them I am not guilty of anything and this is all going to clear up. So don't cancel those December dates. We just need to let the investigation play out. Perhaps that's what's happened, but it is really puzzling that they have not canceled those dates yet. You know, look, there's.
H
Could it be a logistics the venue just doesn't know what's happening over there. I just keep thinking it's the label that proactively went and did all of this, but they would have done it in one fell swoop.
I
It's really weird to me that even the venues wouldn't know by this point.
B
Right.
I
So it's, it's just very, very strange to me that those dates are still available. But again, we should say, as you, as you mentioned, Ashley, he has not been named a person of interest, a suspect. There are more than two months to go until those dates come up. Sure, certainly. I would hope something is, you know, in the next two months. Are we going to the police, going to name a suspect? Yeah, I would think so. And by the way, even if, if they don't name a suspect, let's go really far fetched here, that over the next two months they continue investigating, they're still asking questions and they haven't named a suspect. At some point they got to let David go on and live his life.
B
Right.
H
So the umbrella of suspicion that ruined the Ramses for so long, it's not fair. One last question because I know you got to go, that is that there is a funeral scheduled for Celeste and it's coming up.
I
Yeah. This is going to be very interesting. You know, we talked about this a couple of days ago that when they, when this funeral happens and you're certainly going to have family and friends there, but there's always this thing about whether the person involved shows up or is anywhere nearby. It also raises the question of would David want to go to this? It would seem like he would want to, but I don't think the family would want him there. And furthermore, we don't know where he is at this point. We have not seen any trace of him here in la. There's some people who think he might be back home in Texas, but he has not been seen there either. There are people, clearly there are photographers who are on the lookout for him, but no one has seen him. So this funeral is going to be very interesting. There'll be a lot of eyes on it for that very reason. And obviously her family will be a very difficult mourning process for them because they don't have answers.
B
Right.
I
How do you not address that while you were laying her to rest?
H
And there are so many fans or former fans who want to pay their respects who are devastated about, about what's.
E
Happened to this girl, this.
H
And I keep calling her a girl because she wasn't a woman. She was, you know, maybe 11, 12, 13, and only 14, unlikely 15. Charles, that funeral's October 4th. Will definitely be covering it. Can't thank you enough as always. So appreciate your time.
B
All right.
I
Thanks, Ashley.
E
My great thanks to Charles Ledebodier from tmz. He is full of new information every single day and analysis too because he's been to this rodeo a few times like I have. This particular case just keeps getting darker and with every new detail, we're left with more questions, it seems, than answers. But we will keep digging because Celeste's story deserves to be told. Celeste deserves justice. I'm Ashley Banfield and as always, the truth isn't just serious, it's drop dead serious.
