Dusty Laney
All right, so we got another preview.
Host/Interviewer
I got a very, very good friend of mine on here and someone that I have yet to meet, but I like the way he breeds cattle due to Lot 1. With that said, Mr. Junior Garcia and Dusty Laney are having their third annual sale. I know as of last year, having prior conversation to this, this sale is known and has been creating a lot of. Lot of fun for a lot of families and that have had success here in the Texas majors. So walk through me the story of how y' all decided to collaborate with why y' all do this? Why y' all call it the make youe Mark, maybe highlight some of the awesome success that happened for this prior year. And then after that, we're gonna dive through the lots. Cool.
Junior Garcia
Yeah. Weston, thank you for having us on. Junior Garcia here. Garcia Livestock. I also manage and end the herdman for Reed Vestal Ranches, which is where we've kind of gotten to know each other. Dusty and I have been friends for a long time and several years ago we just thought and saw the opportunity and the need for. For bringing another sale of high quality cattle and of a high caliber to the, you know, the South Texas region where Dusty's at. We've been fortunate that this thing has really caught on some traction and we've been able to. To really get to get involved with some great families. The traffic's been awesome. Dusty's in a good spot. That barn and their place is awesome. It's. It's kind of nostalgic. There's been a lot of good cattle that have. Have come through that place over the years. Dusty can kind of touch on a little bit of that place. And if you've ever been to Dusty's place, Dusty and Maddie's place, it's pretty awesome. It's a place kind of always admire. Just kind of touching on the sale. Last year, I think we had 20, 20 lots and over half of them placed at Texas majors. Last year. I know from my consignments there was a. We had like a fourth and the heavies at Heavy Symbols at San Antone. Let's see what else. There was a. There the middleweight semis at San Antonio. There was a simbraw that we were really, really proud of. He was like our high seller last year. The Po family ends up with that calf. Went a lot all year. Had high hopes for him. At Houston, he was fourth and middleweight. Cinballs kind of got out horse with that calf. Made a lot of noise. Dusty on your end, can you kind of speak to some of those.
Dusty Laney
Yeah. We had a second place heavyweight Angus in San Antonio. A class winning shorthorn at what we would call our district show. They call it grandstand. Yeah. Um, trying to think.
Junior Garcia
Well, there's two Anguses that placed at Fort Worth. One was. And I think Dusty had one that was, what, eighth or something.
Dusty Laney
Yeah, yeah, yeah. And then you touched on the ABC in San Antonio, Shark.
Junior Garcia
Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. There's. There's a third. Yeah. Really cool colored gray and white one that we would have sold, I think for like a minimum bid. He ends up third in the middleweight ABCs at San Antonio. I think Dusty had a fifth in the middleweight mains at Houston. So all in all. And then. And then a heifer that I bought and I'm glad I did because she looks like she's going to end up in my donor pen one day. She's. She's incredible. And there's actually a maternal brother to her in this sale. So again, genetics that are working and we're pretty excited with the results that we have had and expect these to. To prevail those even more. So.
Host/Interviewer
Absolutely. Well, definitely has created a lot of success and the fruition is definitely starting to surface from the dedication and hard work. Obviously this sale's listed on steer bidder and it happens on the 12th. And y' all start off with lot one, the one and only Heer Prospect. She is a new world order on Laney Livestocks 154, which goes back to heat wave black and white paint female. That is extremely unique in terms of her maternal silhouette. I think her length of neck and where it ties into the top side of her shoulder in tandem with that kind of hip and hind leg posture is extremely unique. What do you think and how do you think that she can mate to and what kind of steers you think individuals could get out of her?
Junior Garcia
Yeah.
Dusty Laney
So I think she's interesting in the fact that she fits both the market and breeding heifer spectrum, which I feel like in today's time, if you came out and looked at my donor cows, my cows in general, I don't have a bunch of short, squatty steer looking mamas. My mamas are cows and I feel like that's helped me get ahead in regards to the. I would say the black cross cattle that I've strived to produce. She's extremely sound. I just feel like you could go a lot of different ways with her. Whether you wanted to go back towards more of a breeding style or race steers with her. I Don't really know. The more I think about it, I probably not real smart for selling her, but I have her mom and three full sisters to her mom so I don't necessarily need her. But her mom will be getting flushed this way so hopefully there'll be more to come.
Host/Interviewer
Absolutely.
Junior Garcia
Yeah. She was. We were. We were fortunate that we've always kind of made it work where we. We get these cattle ready and, and we, we. We might have been posted a little bit early on steer better but it just works out with. With getting together for Houston coming back to Dusty's getting those cattle ready. When we were at Houston, our good buddy Cody Dusty's clipping and sent some pictures and it was like, hey, this heifer clipped up and looks like something. And selfishly I, I kind of hope that she didn't picture in video very good because I was all in on this thing. And like you alluded to earlier, Weston, I think this is one that there's going to be a lot of people watching to see what she brings because she does look like the future donor type to me. So we're very excited to see where she ends up.
Host/Interviewer
But for sure or go ahead.
Dusty Laney
I was going to say touch on this. Her mother. This is actually the first natural heifer she's ever had. But they're. They're. Every bull steer calf that's come out of her has made the sale somewhere.
Host/Interviewer
Really impressive. Very much so. Two will be next. And this will be the red steer that I've fallen in love with. He's a back to good and paid in full female. This calf in my mind has a lot of different varieties of endpoints, but I think his hair coat, especially for yalls part of the world have that kind of hair is extremely unique. I do like the calf and I think he'd stand out for sure in Fort Worth. And I think his hind leg is exactly what Frank Ward is after. But I will say this. If someone doesn't want to take him as a Division 1 contender, which I don't know why someone wouldn't want to win Division 1. I think the calf has that kind of potential, but I think this calf has the slick and shape for sure. That could definitely be in huge contention for a banner somewhere between San Antonio and Houston.
Junior Garcia
Yeah. No. Our two programs, we were fortunate to both find extreme success at Fort Worth this year. Dusty would. Dusty and his family would have better raised a calf that wins Class 1 in Exotics. Andrew and I, Garcia, we were very fortunate, Wes to raise a calf that wins Class 2. So we're no stranger to success in that first division at Fort Worth. And that's what Dusty and I both kind of said when this calf came in. A good buddy of mine raised this one, Shawn Etheridge. He's been. I've been part of his program since the very beginning, and he started to race some really, really good stuff. This calf was extremely hairy as a baby, and I think you're hitting it on the head. Like, I do think he's a class one or two hammer. That Fort Worth hair quality is awesome. This position is incredible. Like, I think I led him out to the picture pen, and I mean, like, anybody could fall in love with this calf. But I agree, like, it'd be very, very interesting to see what he would look like at Houston and the red crosses. I mean, I don't. I don't think he's ever more than maybe a middle by Houston, but the calf is extremely, extremely high quality. We're pumped about him. Just has all the bells and whistles a guy wants. Sexy hip and hind leg, and just. It's not a whole lot of guesswork on what this thing's going to look like. So we're. We're pretty pumped about him.
Host/Interviewer
Dusty, what's your thoughts?
Dusty Laney
I think that, you know, I. I get to see him every day being at my house, and he's one of the ones in the sale that I am definitely thinking about buying back for myself, for my daughter and her first year. So.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir, she.
Dusty Laney
She will be showing. This is her first year in a calf like that with a little girl. I mean, I don't think there's any better pair, but I say that there's several on the sale that I would feed for sure and not even think twice, so. And he's one of them.
Host/Interviewer
Y. Well, lot three is next. This is gonna be a king of kings on the 2035 female, which is a trans am on a pump. Daddy hoodoo. And obviously, you have this thing quartered out to highlight his shape up high. I think the calf is extremely unique just for to be how dual purpose he is. Short, big back tandem with a huge rib cage and an awesome hip and hind leg. I think his hair quality is really nice as well for an individual to have fun with over the summer and fall. I think he could go to Fort Worth and have a nice day, but I think his true highlighted day is probably going to be on San Antonio. To have that kind of foot size and shape, I think could be awesome to look at at San Antonio.
Dusty Laney
Yeah, I so the 2035 cow that he's out of, we recently just sold a couple of his brothers and my family sale this past weekend. But I think of the three, this was always my pick. He was just a little further behind and he rubbed out in the wrong spot. So I we decided to quarter him. I thought he would look better. It definitely does show that he's gonna be a probably a really good cheering one. And if you did want to take him to Fort Worth, he was one of the hairiest cabs that we had born this year. I think he would probably be like a Class 3 or 4 at Fort Worth and then if you got to Houston, you'd be like a three charolay or something like that. Good feet. There's just really nothing wrong with them. Just sound complete calf. It's kind of calves that I like to feed, which is why he's in the sale.
Host/Interviewer
Y Junior, what's your thoughts?
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no, I was fortunate. While we were done getting these cattle ready, Dusty took me over to see where the donors were and this one's mother just happened to be in there and she is a spectacle to look at. I mean she's choke necked and got the big squishy feet. She's freaky. Dusty, is that cow dirty or is she just clean?
Dusty Laney
You think that cow is 2035? She's just a DS carrier. That's it.
Junior Garcia
That'd be where the hair and obviously the hind leg and all that from having some shot of dx. But yeah, I know this thing's red and purple and obviously King of kings we can see. And. And it's pretty evident that he's going to work to several different ways. And now this one's, this one's very, very high quality. Like Dusty said, hair quality was awesome. Disposition on this one's awesome too. So another one that anybody could tie in here, not have any doubts or worries about, you know, your kid getting along with him.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. Well, lot four is next. This is an RVR special. He's out of the wolf on the 1408 cow, which is a solid gold Air 721. His calf is polled so he can run brangus. I think the calf's extremely unique for the brangus breed just in terms of his length of neck, his presence and silhouette from profile. I think he couples that with an awesome set of feet and legs. I think he's going to be extremely high quality and definitely could be in the hunt somewhere between San Antonio and Houston. What do y' all think, yeah, we.
Junior Garcia
The 1408 was actually an acquisition that. That reed got when I came on. That cow's incredible. So she'd be like a full sib to the Newman. Kevin Newman's bull. They called big dog. Again, a solid gold on. On that 721 donor. Carter's. We fostered the wolf. I think there was four of them this year. There's a heifer that is going to be a donor for RBR one day. She's incredible. Then there was two brothers. This one I always thought was the best one. His attitude is not great. So it's going to take somebody with some patience and maybe a bigger kid to get this thing across. Just in terms of the big, big crazy out there pieces. I mean, this calf's got it. He's choked neck, humongous hips, big squishy feet. I do think he classes. His head and ears are right. He's got the right shape to his sheath. I think it's going to continue to come as he matures. It seems like the wolf. The wolf calves. You know, he's a purebred brangus. We've attached pictures of the donor and the bull in the additional images there on steerbetter. But no, I mean, this one gets us fired up. He's as good as his picture and video. Like I said, he's not kid broke. He's not going to be gentle. He's always going to be arrogant, which I think is going to aid in the attention that he gets. But again, just know that you're getting into a project here. It's going to take some. Some grit, some time and some patience. But I do think it's one that's worth spending that and putting the time and effort into him because if. If everything happens like it needs to, this kev could be a player and a contender in the brangis division somewhere down the road.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. Dusty, what do you think?
Dusty Laney
Yeah, no, I mean, he's definitely. He's got a presence about him that is very unique and will definitely get you noticed. But he will take some work. He's not mean, but he can be a handful at times, so.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. Well, lot five is next. And this is going to be a one oak on the 2104, which is
Dusty Laney
a FNC front and center.
Host/Interviewer
Okay. The bottom side is going to be a 2104, which will be a front and center on a smoking bob hoodoo. This one's got incredible hair. I think this one fit up and dialed in. Worth's going to be an awesome shorthorn contender. But I say that also. I think that his body shape, hip and hind leg posture would definitely be neat to see slicked off. But I, I, I, I do think the calf haired up would be an awesome, awesome and fun individual to, to play with. What do y' all think?
Dusty Laney
Yeah, when this one was born, I was like, touchdown. And he's always been kind of the family favorite and this year with my daughter starting and my nephew, it was one that my family was probably going to hold back for them. But he's a little spicier than we would like for a first year. That doesn't mean he's made strides now. I mean, he's going to be showable. He's, he's fine. He definitely one that struts around, let you know he's there. Huge feet, huge bone, everything. All his pieces are huge. You know, seeing him wet and with hair, he looks just as good both ways. I don't think you could go wrong showing him in either spot, whether it's with hair or sheared.
Host/Interviewer
Dusty, what do you think? I mean, Junior, what do you think?
Junior Garcia
No, this one's big time. The first time I saw him when, when Dusty and I drove through the cabs earlier in the year, this one is obviously one that everybody asks about for sure. One that's dual purposed. I don't see a reason why this one wouldn't class as a shorty at Fort Worth. I don't know, Dusty might allude to that, but the calf for sure has big time Fort Worth shag and he's got the, you know, the big back leg that Ward likes to tie into. But even with that, I mean, sheared off the calf, I don't know if he's too loud to be a Red Cross. I think for sure, again, a shorty remain, but. And this one's big time quality. I've even talked to Dusty, my little sister in law there. She's going to be a senior this year. And this one was definitely one that I had kind of an asterisk by thinking, well, you know, maybe it's one we tie into. I just, I don't know that he, he's probably ever more than a middle and it just seems like it's, it's kind of more, you know, we've already kind of got one on feed for, for Houston, so I don't, I don't know that it's one of those deals. But aside from that, the calf is definitely senior year. Quality pieces are big time. Like Dusty Said hair is huge, feet are huge. I mean, just a calf that's born to be a winner. Just again, gotta be another one. That takes some patience. I do think the calf's a shorty and in the shorthorn division at Fort Worth, I think he gives them all they want in that first class. So.
Host/Interviewer
Awesome. Well, lot six will be next. This will be a solar flare on this C20, which would be a GCC cerveza. This would be an Angus prospect. I think he classes all day long. I think his hair quality reads right to try and get there to Fort Worth. Is possibly a lightweight or middleweight, but I do also read the calf to be awesome. Slicking one. His back shape, hip and hind legs seem awesome, but I also like his rib cage to couple with that. What do y' all think?
Dusty Laney
Yeah. So he's a maternal sib to the second place heavyweight Angus in San Antonio this year. So, you know, he kind of mirrors the calf in ways such as just his soundness. I think he's gonna. He's not one that wows you in any aspect right now, but he's one that I know will feed into a good fat later on. See, calves always do that. For me, it's kind of funny. She was bought as a reset cow and she's not a reset, but just goes to show good cattle are good cattle. And she's kind of been the foundation of my my along with 154 that we talked about earlier of my cowherd. And her calves always find a hole somewhere.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. Junior, what do you think?
Junior Garcia
No, for sure. This is another dual purpose. One I got needs to tie into. Like we alluded to earlier in the intro, we sold two Anguses in this deal last year. And it's funny, just kind of realize we're following up with two more Anguses this year. Both of them place one of them branded at Fort Worth. I think this one's kind of a, you know, he's your safe bet. Feed legs are awesome, presence is awesome. Smooth build, balance is big time. I mean, I think an easy feeding one that anybody could tie into and never feel like you're not going to have a chance. One that probably gets better every day of his life. So one that we're very excited and confident in.
Host/Interviewer
Right. Lot seven's next. Another Angus prospect. Like mentioned, he's a one oak out of your own cow, Junior, which you call 28, which is a monopoly Angus. I mean, this calf resembles a lot of things like the last one in terms of lengthened neck Length and levelness of hip and hind leg posture. But I think this calf in the end will probably read to be a little more chubby or earlier maturing. I could be wrong about that. But I do read the calf to be awesome and extremely high quality, regardless of setting.
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no, for sure. 28 is a cow special to us. We raised her. I actually sold half of her to a really good buddy of mine, Jesse Lane. He's an ag teacher up in Bryson. He kind of wanted to get into the showster deal, so I was like, hey, I'm going to sell you half this cow. And just hang on, we're going to get somewhere with her. Her first one, Oak, was a heifer that quickly made her way in the replacement pen. And she's gonna be a donor for him. He's actually gonna start flushing on her this year. Last year she had a gotcha heifer. That's really, really nice. They kept back as well. And then we brought her back to 10 because I thought that mating hit hard, hoping for a bull calf. And when this one was born, he was fired up. And this thing coming out as a baby, like, had like the big crossbreed pieces, huge legs, big shag. We sheared him. I think he was born right there, like in the July. But no, I mean, we always figured this one would be a hammer. And it took him a minute. He kind of had some bad days there early on, but he's putting it on now. And one that I'm definitely excited about. I think at Fort Worth, he's probably a middleweight, like to middle, depending on where geographically he ends up. But I think the calf's very, very high quality. I think he classes all day, but with that, I mean, he's got a big hip, got some substance to his bone. You know, underlying balance and presence is awesome. And I think that's important in that Angus deal. And Harris a one too. Another one that's actually. This position is really, really good. Him in the last slot. I don't know. We talked about that. And Lot 6. Both these Angus cavs are. Are a joy to be around. And they're. They're pretty quiet. And we're excited about both their future, for sure.
Host/Interviewer
Absolutely, for sure. Well, lot eight's next. I mean, this is going to be here. I am good as it gets. Main or black cross? I do like the calf a lot. Y' all obviously quartered him in two. Definitely highlights his shape up high and his hip and stifle shape. Lower quarter. I like the calf's Ratio from forward to flank and now he just progresses back deeper. I think he's an awesome slick and ste. San Antonio Houston reads to be just one that you coast along and just will end up be 12 o' clock wherever also depending on what area of Texas he ends up in. But what do y' all think?
Junior Garcia
Yeah, this is one we found early or not early, I guess early in terms of this year's hunt. Hunting time for finding a show kid. We bought him late last fall. You know, I thought he was bred cool. Here I am. Good as it gets. Awesome colored. We were thinking San Antone, Maine or Black Cross and I think that's where he, where he fits best. Another one that's just kind of bulletproof from all aspects. Feet and legs are good. Stout, big back, good bodied, killer fronted, got the color that you're always going to like. I think this is the kind that just gets along, no holes, you know, I mean he doesn't value in any one certain area but. But a cat that's, you know, very, very competitive sheared off somewhere next spring. I think San Antonio's probably his best bet just because his feet and legs are so good on the green turf. That color will pop. And I think one that's, that's color pattern alone is going to get you noticed. And then once you kind of get past that and figure out break him down, pieces all fit together, balances up good. I think he's one that, that gets somebody across and someone's excited to be a part of.
Host/Interviewer
Dusty, what's your thoughts?
Dusty Laney
Yeah, I think he's a good cheering one for San Antonio and he's going to stick out like a sore thumb. He's cool colored, stout. What you see is what you get. If it was up to me, we'd quarter everything. That's how I like him. But I think he's got mega pieces that will get him across later on.
Host/Interviewer
Absolutely. Well, lot nine is next and this can be a water to wine on the 337 female, which is a solar flare wise guy hoodoo. Obviously this one's a true standout in terms of quality of hair and how much of it. But I do believe that the calf is extremely unique in terms of his proportionality and balance from the side. I think his hind leg is extremely exceptional. Talk to me about what y' all think. I think the calf's awesome.
Dusty Laney
So this one, he's got huge pieces, huge feet, huge bone, huge hip. And it kind of took him a little time to grow into all that, but now he's coming into his own. I feel like no matter what you do with them, whether you keep the hair or shear him, you'll look pretty smart. And he will be extremely competitive in the red crosses at Houston or in Fort Worth as a haired one. We had several water to wines this year and I, I've always thought that this one could be the best one in the end and I have high hopes for him for sure.
Host/Interviewer
Junior, what's your thoughts?
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no, this one. The first time I saw him was on that weekend after Houston and we were clipping these things, getting ready for picture day, and he's kind of one that just sticks out at you. Like before we started in on him, it just looked like a huge box with red shaggy hair. And then we got into him and broke him down, saw the calf wet and he is legit. He's true in his shape. Like Dusty said, big, big feet, big bones. Hair's crazy. I'd say he's definitely probably a Division 1 at Fort Worth. That thing sheared off as a red cross somewhere is going to make someone look really, really smart. You know, even from when I was there to now, that calf's done nothing but put it on. And it looks like he's on the downhill track now in terms of, of getting there and putting it on. And I don't know. I think this one again, someone's probably going to give him a buy here, but I think it's going to look really, really good when it's all said and done because he's definitely one that's got the big time pieces. So we're excited to see how this one feeds and where he ends up.
Host/Interviewer
For sure. Lot 10 is next. This is how great thou art out of RVRS 9112, which is a BDR on the CCS 1157. This calf is extremely nice. I absolutely love his shoulder angle. I love his back shape. I think his hip and hind leg is extremely, extremely good. I think the calf is going to have a really bright day once he gets some time and feed in him. And I think that the calf can do a lot of things for you, I think go to Fort Worth and do a lot of good. But I also think he slicks off and is really nice. Exhibited somewhere between Austin and Houston as well.
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no. This one is another dual purpose option that we thought was worth having in the sale backstory on this one. So when we were at Adams Revival cow sale last summer, I've always admired Brett's 1157 donor I mean, if you followed the showstier game in Texas at all, you've kind of seen that come and go. And there's been several winners and banner hangers that go back to 1157. His mom was a BDR 1157 that was selling Adams deal and we tied into her, Reed tied into her and we thought we needed to add her to the donor battery for rvr. So this is actually out of a cow that we now own, but this is a consignment from Brett Cody, a good buddy of mine at Dusty's and, and he's like, hey, I'd like to, to add a few to the sale that we thought sure added some value and we were all about it. And Brett didn't disappoint with this one. We were pretty excited to get him. He kept a full brother last time I was still in Tolar. I don't know if they're planning on feeding him or what the deal is. If they don't, I'm sure he's gonna end up in a big home. But we thought this one was, was pretty cool. Color's awesome. Silver and white hair. Quality is great. Like I said, I think at Fort Worthy, probably a class five through seven, but sheared off. I mean he's, you know, middle end of the AOC somewhere, but one that we sure think can be competitive and, and gives you a shot at Brandon a motor where you take him.
Host/Interviewer
Dusty, what's your thoughts?
Dusty Laney
Yeah, I'd agree. I think he's got the big time pieces this year and, and be extremely competitive in the AOCs and you know, even since he's been here, he's, he's come on a lot and there's a lot of people that come in here that have been in here the last few days. I feel like he's been on everyone's list. So yeah, he looks, I mean he's a good calf.
Host/Interviewer
Before we Continue, is lot 11 out of the same cow a lot 11
Junior Garcia
out of a full sister to nine? 112.
Host/Interviewer
Okay, okay, okay, okay. This one. Okay, well, line 11 is next and this can be an in God we Trust out of the same genetics. But I think Junior did a little spin on it and bought something very, very similar to the cow. That is the reason that we have lot 10. But I think this lot 11 is extremely intriguing and resembles a lot of those pieces in terms of hip and hind leg structure. Also, I think the calf shape up high is all really nice, but he reads to be extremely big footed and talk to me about him and what you all think and where his best endpoint is.
Junior Garcia
Now, again, another one that we think is dual purpose. So his mother would actually be a full SIB to 9/112. The mother to the. How great. That slot 10, you know, on there, we got Fort Worth Cross Charlay or AOC. I mean, we've seen some of these actually get in as a shorthorn. So if that's your. If that's your deal and that's the game you want to play, I think, you know, for a white pink hided one, I think he definitely has that option. We love this one silhouette. We love his angles. Feet and legs are incredible. He's cocky, he's got good presence. The calf's actually pretty quiet. Got a good attitude. One that shears or hairs probably in the middle wherever he goes. We thought this one was very, very high quality. Another one that Brett brings us that we were happy to consign in this deal and, you know, add quality to the sale. So one that we're excited to see where he goes.
Dusty Laney
Yeah, I. I'd definitely try the shorthorn thing for sure. I do think he's dual purpose and I, you know, I'd probably want him in the AOCs and so I feel like trying the shorthorns is not a bad idea. I feel like he'll be a good cheering one and good feeding one, too.
Host/Interviewer
Absolutely. Well, lot 12 is next. There's gonna be a Colt 45 on the female that we call F18, which she goes back to cerveza again. This one's got a little bit of chrome on him. I think he's going to stand out no matter where he goes. Just due to his length of neck and proportions and balance from the side. I think the calf is extremely dual purpose as well. I think his hair code is something you definitely need to consider about exhibiting there in January or February.
Dusty Laney
Yeah, I think he is definitely another one of these Fort Worth division ones. He's extremely hairy, especially for being born right here in New Braunfels. He's had that hair coat his whole life. Came out hairy. Came out basically looking like the way he did. Now. I definitely think he'll be highly competitive. I don't know that he's. I say he's probably a class two or three. I think if he went north, he could probably get a little bit bigger because that cow's not small. Awesome feet, awesome hind leg, Cool hip. Just, you know, he's. He's a show calf. He walks around like his picture 247 Junior.
Host/Interviewer
What's your thoughts?
Junior Garcia
No, for sure. I thought this one like, like Dusty said, he's been trying to. To put emphasis on the black cross division for the steer deal and, and this kind of the fruits of his labor here. I thought this one was a hammer. You know, he could hair and be competitive at Fort Worth. I think this one, like as the at the in the blacks at Houston is for sure a sail maker and maybe more. I mean he's got the big squishy feet, got a big wide pin set in him. Got a back, got a ditch rolling down his back. I mean the cap's going to be stout along with that, like from the side. His lines are awesome, his balance upheaded, a good attitude. This one's going to be very competitive and gonna make someone look smart next ring for sure.
Host/Interviewer
Well, lot 13 is next and this is going to be a game changer on the Knicks 508 which is a deals on Deadliest Catch Made Rag, Doc Holliday. This is potentially could roll pulled Hereford or Red Cross, depending on where you take him. But I think the calf is awfully nice. I think he exhibits a lot of neat features just in terms of his angles, his lines, his balance from the side. I love his depth of body in tandem with that and awesome hind leg. Y' all talk to me about what you think of him.
Junior Garcia
Yeah. So our good buddy Dalton Nicks raises this one. Dalton's obviously got a reputation for raising very, very high quality Americans. What people don't know is Dalton ox. Dalton also likes the Hereford game. This, this one's mother, I saw her out in the pasture and like she is a freak. One of the coolest looking, not just cows, but like Hereford cows I think I've ever seen, like short, boxy, squatty and humongous feet. So he flushes here to Game Changer, which is a bull that RBR owns with Welpers Borns up there raised that calf. Game Changer is a full blown to matador. He had himself a year this year I think there was a division, I mean a breed champ at state fair and then obviously sires the steer that wins the Herefords at Fort Worth. So this thing's bred in the purple. I don't know when I found this one at Dalton's and he's like, hey, y' all could put that one in your deal. I was fired up. I think I called Dusty, I was like, hey, we got one. That I could be a heck of a breed contender somewhere. Like I said, the Calves pull, and I think you show him that way until they don't let you. And even if they don't, the red crosses, we still think this one's good enough to hang a banner. I mean, that's, you know, good cattle are good cattle. Big feet and legs, awesome lines. Big hip, swoopy belly, long choke neck comes out the top side of a shoulder like we want them to. I mean, this one's going to get you motors nowhere, no matter where you go. I said I don't know which way you're showing it. I don't think it matters. The calf's very, very high quality. I think it gives you a chance to be competitive regardless of what breed he ends up in.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. What do you think?
Dusty Laney
You know, if you want to talk about us, you want to know the kind of steer that I like to feed, this is him. I would say just go ahead. And I. If it was me, he, yeah, you can try. Pulled her for it. I'd go right into the red crosses and just get it on.
Host/Interviewer
He's.
Dusty Laney
He's got everything that a show calf needs to show and feed into a really good one. Huge feat. Awesome lines. I mean, really, in my opinion, there isn't much wrong with him other than he's just a little skinny. But I like skinny ones too, so I don't really want to say anything else good about him because then I won't get to show him, so.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. Lot 14 is next. This is gonna be an RVR prospect. He's an Inga we trust out of the 7287, which is a Bexer on the 287 female. An awesome colored ABC prospect. I think he's extremely unique just for how neat he is and still classifies. But obviously Reed's a little green, but I don't think that works to a disadvantage because it all starts at the foundation. That's a big footed, stout, featured steer that I think will end up being a man one day.
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no, when I, Dusty and I have been doing this sale now, I don't know if this is year three or four, but it's been something that we've built and try to cultivate and being successful and bringing high quality cattle to the table, especially to that kind of south central Texas demographic, you know, we knew we were going to have this sale. Reed was like, hey, don't forget about your buddy old pal here. And I was like, no, man. We'd like to have what we think are elite Americans in this deal. I Was fortunate, I want to say fortunate, because I had a pretty heavy heifer crop this year and the steers that I did have, we either sold them or we've been marketing through the RVR sales. But talked to Reed into letting us have a few hammers and I don't think he disappointed on what he let us bring to the table. So this one's a full sieve to the lot 12 that we would have sold this past weekend in the RBR sale. That brings a pretty good chunk of change and I know that family is very, very ecstatic to be part of that calf. And we sure believe that that calf can be banner hanger type material. And I don't think this one's any different. I mean, this calf is a freak. I mean, he's ideal in terms of his structure. He's squishy at the ground, the set to his knee. And his hawk's ideal. He's punchy ass. I mean, he's huge bodied, long skinny, choke neck, ditch rolling down his back. Like you said, he's still skinny. And even with being skinny, you can still see his indicators. They're going to tell you this cat's going to be plenty stout, goes like they need to. He's arrogant. This calf had a little bit of attitude, but I think honestly we broke him on picture day because ever since then he's kind of been a gentleman and has been minding his manner. So I think with a little bit of tlc, anybody can get along with this calf. But we sure feel like this one's banner worthy wherever you take him. I think ideally he probably needs to go to Austin or Houston. And like I said, there's a three quarter brother to him that would have won class two of the ABCs at Houston here a couple weeks ago. That cow for rvr, she's going to hit. She's going to raise some champions. And it's probably going to be this year because there's already been several sold this spring and this one's just going to be another one that adds to the, to the ticket there for what the RBR7287CAL is going to do. Like I said, we were, we're very pumped. Very appreciative of Reed for allowing us to consign this one, but we do think this one's big time.
Host/Interviewer
Sure. Dusty, what's your thoughts?
Dusty Laney
Yeah, he's just, you know, he's gonna be an awesome shearing one. Well, you know, when I, when, when we junior and I started this one of the main, main considerations that I told him was I want to have elite Americans in the sale every year. And I feel like this one brings it to the table for sure. I want, you know, each last year I feel like this simbrawl that Junior brought down was kind of the talk of a lot of South Texas. And I feel like these Americans in this sale, including this one, are going to do the same.
Host/Interviewer
Absolutely. Well, 15's next. It's the last live lot of the sale and this will actually be another RVR prospect. But this will be a Blackhawk down, which is a master plan. Ambrosia. Did I say that right? Ambrosia.
Junior Garcia
Yeah. Ambrosia.
Host/Interviewer
Out of the 2245, which is the when in doubt 7287, which actually goes back to the lot prior to this. That's a brindle colored calf that can run simbraw. I think the calf's hind leg is exceptional. I think that his flat shoulder and level lines and balance from the side indicates that he's going to be a really good looking rascal down the road.
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no, again, this is another one that, you know, like Dusty said in this last slot, the last slot last year was a cinbraw that we were pumped about. Almost got her done and we were out there knocking on the door and people knew about him. And I was very, very pumped and fortunate to raise a calf of that quality. And I don't think this one's any different. Black Hawk down was a bull that my cousin Justin Rico actually acquired through JJ. Deal at MP Brangis. So like Black Hawk now would have been a master plan Ambrosia. I think Ambrosia would be like the dam of Wall Street. And then this one's mother, 2245. So Blackhawk down is low birth weight. So he bred that cow 2245 to Blackhawk for her first calf. And she lays down and has this thing and it's like, okay, she's gonna work. 245 is a win in doubt 87, which is a mother of, you know, the prior lot. There would have been a. There would have been a when in doubt 7,287 campaign a couple years ago from the Homeyer family. That calf won a lot. He was a black and white one. I think he went and branded at Houston, but. But they sure thought that calf had a shot at the sim brawls and all that to say that that cows. We've attached some. Some additional pictures and footage of the. Of the genetics on this one side. But, but another one that's bred, you know, in the purple. We do think this one's big time. It's probably going to take to Houston to get him to fighting weight in terms of being one that can run at a banner. But, but I do feel like he's banner quality. I mean, he's big, squishy feet, comes out of the top side of his shoulder. Awesome. Good bodied, big hipped, stout lines are great, balance is awesome and who doesn't like a really cool brindle, right? So we're excited to offer one of this caliber. We think the whole setting, all in all is very exciting and we can't wait to see the, you know, where they end up, continue to cultivate relationships and hopefully develop some new ones. So we're excited about this set and see what Dusty thinks.
Dusty Laney
Yeah. So this calf, Junior didn't mention that he's first year kid. Gentle too. Looking at this one every day. I mean he's, he's, he's got all the right parts and pieces to be a good cheering one. I, I do agree that Houston, if you want to actually contend for the breed, that's his place. But just a real good calf altogether and definitely rounds out the American trio that we have in the sale and is not short of quality at all.
Host/Interviewer
Completely agree. Well, that ends up rounding out all the live lots and I know 16 through 20 are all going to be semen lots. So Junior, run through those with me and obviously you got some in God, some BDR and then a horn livestock bull mix and then some Swinging heat. So talk to me about those while you're offering those.
Junior Garcia
Yeah, no, we just thought we'd add a little spend. You know, it's cool. A bunch of the cabs that we're, we're offering this sale with the stuff that we'd raised. So obviously we're producers like everyone else and we just thought we'd add some semen lots here at the end to kind of, you know, just if you can't get a calf, well, at least you can help your, your genetic side. So Dusty's offering a few lots of In Godwin trouts. I think there's three units apiece and those two lots, I'm offering a lot of bdr. I know that BDR semen is kind of hard to come by. I flushed a couple cows that way and had a couple straws left and I just thought we'd put it in here. Also offering a lot of. We're just going to call it the horn livestock Bull mix. There's some trigger. That's right. And gotcha. I was pretty fired up on all three of those bulls. We've used them all. We've flushed to those bulls, offering three. Three straws apiece on those bulls as well. And then Swinging heat rounds it off with lot 20. That was a bull that we've used, one that I've found we kind of promoted a little bit. We've sold some swinging heats in this sale in the past two years. I think two years ago, we had several Swinging heat heifers. And it seems like that's where Swinging Heat's really going to aid in the. Where he's going to make his mark is in the females. Swinging heat was a Wang Chun heat wave. That was a double dirty. He was a black sock. Calves come little, but they had big, big pieces and were hairy. Yeah, that bull's working, and he's done us a good job. There's been several people buy semen. I just thought, well, we'll add some. The calf that was. I think he's lot two or lot three. Last year, he was fourth in the heavy cinbros at San Antonio. This year he was a swing, and he got along all year, and there's been several getting along, too. So I just thought we'd put some semen in here, and I'll add some pictures to the lot as well, just so you can kind of see some of the progeny from him. But no, we just thought we'd round out the sale with some. Some semen lots and some genetic opportunities. So.
Host/Interviewer
Yes, sir. With that said, that is going to be the end of the preview. Find it on steer better. It happens on the 12th. Is there anything else that y' all want to mention before we finish the preview?
Junior Garcia
No, man, we're. We're excited to continue this. The make your mark sale. You know, Dusty actually came up with that, and we thought it was catchy and is what it is. It's a way to make your mark, and we're excited. We stand behind all the calves on this sale. We've been fortunate to have great success in the sale in the past years. Last year, we were very blessed. Like I said, 50% of them things all went on and were competitive and placed at majors and made their families and their homes happy. So it was a good deal. We don't expect anything short of this set. You know, there's only 15, but we do feel that all 15 of them are high quality. I think either one of us would be ecstatic to Feed any of them. And that's what we want to bring to the table. With that said, we encourage you to come out, check out the cattle in person. Dusty's around. Him and his wife Maddie likes to live on the place. The cattle are there, you can reach out to him. Cody Mayfield's around. He's going to be around there. His number is listed as well too. A good buddy of ours that has helped with the sale and now we're just excited to bring a. A deep quality set of we think are hammer type individuals. So like I said, if you got any questions, reach out to Dusty or I will be glad to help and talk to the cattle and. And we're just excited to get them out there and get them in. Good homes.
Host/Interviewer
Dusty, anything from you?
Dusty Laney
Yeah, no, I just, I can just follow up to what Junior said. I think we've been fortunate to have success these last couple years from the sale and a lot of our customers were more than satisfied. I feel like, you know, last year there was a lot of value buys that some people got across and we are ecstatic for them. And I don't think there's anything short, short of quality in here. And there's something for everyone. Whether you want to go haired, slick breed, crossbred. It's all here. One stop shop.
Host/Interviewer
Yes sir. With that said, you can find it on steer bidder once again, happens on the 12th. I'm sure that your or Dusty would be glad to pick up the phone and talk to y' all if we haven't answered any of your questions and empower here and we'll see all next time.
