Well, we got another preview and this is a really awesome opportunity for me. Someone that I've looked up to for quite some time that's been knocking it out of the park here. Just recently he put five in the Grand Drive there at Fort Worth. Mr. Laramie Priest with Priest Genetics there in Canyon, Texas. They got a sale on steer bidder happening on the 16th. A lot of great cattle that are up to offer. Lots of many different types and kinds in the sale. Laramie, you've been on the podcast before with the guest episode, but if you want to kind of introduce yourself, people get to hear you out just a little bit, maybe some thoughts about the sale and then we'll dive through the lots.
B
Yep. So Larry Priest, married to Peyton. Got a little boy named Shep Shepherd. I live in Canyon, Texas. Raise show cattle, sell show cattle, run stocker cattle. Just kind of try to do it all, to make it all work. Got a sale coming up on February 16th of a bunch of, you know, springboards, later springboard stuff, you know, end of March to the first stuff I either went out and gathered or cattle that I raised. Lots of different endpoints. We're fixing to go through them all and talk about each one of them on kind of what they're built like, what their kind of endpoint looks like to me. So, yeah, looking forward to going through them.
A
We'll just start off with lot one. He's an in God we Trust monopoly in my mind. I don't really know if there's a better way you could have started off this sale. Smoky colored calf obviously seems to be like a holdover type in kind of could end up somewhere in the heavyweights at Fort Worth possibly. What do you think, Laramie? I mean, he's a really nice calf.
B
Yep. So this year we didn't have in a particular. So order sell order. We just. Whichever one's first number was up, that's what was number one. And we went all the way down through. First one would be one that I actually kind of view to be more of a endpoint to go to San Antone, San Angelo. He's got good enough hair that I think he could work for Fort Worth. I don't know if he'll have that big, big time shag. But he's a calf that will definitely be hairy enough that you can exhib throughout the summer and through the fall and have fun showing him one of the better San Antonio Charolais steers I've had on my place, I think in a long time. Rope neck no chest, legs are perfect. Body drags the ground. He's good in terms of his width calf that I just see a lot of value in a calf that like I said, I think for San Angelo, San Antonio, somewhere in that endpoint someone wants to be competitive. I think that calf will be awfully fun project to have.
A
Well, the next is lot two. He's a standout over an in God we trust Cal 400. She's a walks this way Pebbles. And you describe him as just being extremely dual purpose. He's got good hair but reads to be a real good slicking calf. Especially here for the Texas majors in the later spring.
B
Yep, yep. So this calf was a real dense haired yellow one that, that I think is extremely good in terms of his body shapes and depth. He's very square hip. He's a steer that square built calf that gets and moves good on his feet and legs. He's really good at the ground in terms of his foot shape. Is he calf that, you know, if I view him to be, you know, class 11 to class 12 calf that at Fort Worth I think could garner brand. But if not, I think he's a calf that we could shave off and take to San Antonio as a limousine and be competitive there as well. Bread and the purple calories out of is awfully, awfully good too.
A
Well then Lot 3 is an in God We Trust. Here I am smoky colored calf and that's an absolutely huge foot. That's a really, really nice hind leg as well. Looks to be big hip, big back. Where would you like to see him in terms of end points? I mean obviously he reads dual purpose. Looks like he can slick off but has a real nice hair coat to make it to Fort Worth.
B
Yeah. So here's one of the lights that I'm probably a lot higher on than probably than the amount of questions that I've had asked about him. He's not going to wow you when he's just walking loose in the pin because he kind of maybe got just a touch of chest. He ain't the longest necked one in the world, but from there bag that calf is as good as you can make them. Perfect in terms of his body shape. Perfect in terms of his depth. He is absolutely elite and athletic on his legs. He's got that stout, attractive and functional hind leg that goes to the ground calf that I think looks good anywhere from Denver to San Antone. I think more than likely. I bet his best day will be shaved off on the carpet down there in San Antonio. But A calf that, you know you can do a lot of things with the calf that I mean I absolutely love his legs. That's. This is the kind of calf that I, I like to have around. They're easy feeding, they're easy to maintain. Yeah. If you just burn a little bit chest off then everyone's going to be wondering where you got him from and why they didn't have him marked down.
A
Exactly. Yes sir. Well then Lot 4 is a how great thou art gone viral. Little different in his type and kind. Longer neck, neater chested, seems to be real long proportion. Talk to me about where you think he'll end up. Obviously he's big shagged so I think hair haired show is probably his best end point. What's your thought?
B
I would not slick this one off in my opin but I do think this calf will have hair to the ground. He's a calf that is absolute a freak on a leash. You described him well. Huge bones, huge feet, good structured, high neck. He's got the presence that it takes to be in a big ring. He's a calf that he won't be a big heavyweight anywhere until oie if that's the place he needs to go. Calf that I view to be one of the smaller classes at Denver. 4, 5, 6 calf that would be a middleweight division. Be hard to turn at Fort Worth for taking Hawaii and show them like that. But a calf that will have hair to the ground. I've had that calf here since August so he didn't care out quite as much as the other ones. But the calf has got the thick good.
A
Awesome. Well and as the judges listed in the post game for Denver then black cav or black calves are really, really elaborate there in the Denver ring. So that'd be neat to know as well for any family. Five is next. He said. That's right. Goretzka six. Obviously that cow is renowned in the industry. She's had many, many champions and this calf partakes from what she looks like big time. I mean that's a big back, big hip calf. Obviously he, he's got good shag from what it reads like, but I bet he'd slick off just as nice.
B
Yeah, here's a calf that I mean was has unbelievable hair. He kind of shucked out just a little bit early. Our weather up here has been just a little bit off. It's been hotter than we got down negative and then it got back up to about 70 and all the cattle's hair is a little off in the cycle right now. But I guarantee this calf will be hairy, hairy, built a little different than some sixes. He's a cast that's a little bit more extended. Maybe not quite as just burly and boxy as some, but I do absolutely love this calf's presence. Walks around with his head in the air. Calf that is elite in this structure. He's 100% on that. He's a calf that's really good bodied. He's just an absolute safe fault free. Calf that will be higher up in a class and lower just because he doesn't have any obvious holes. Calf that's just rock solid everywhere.
A
Yes, sir, for sure. Well then Lot 6 is next. This is actually one of my picks of the sale. He's a golden ticket out of a cow that is yours, right, Laramie, she's six.
B
Yep. So me and bird, I got to acquire all birds. Donor cow. I was very fortunate to get to work with him. The cow needs no introduction to the guys down south. Raised a bunch of high dollar bulls for Brandon Horn. Raise a bunch of high dollar high selling heifers for Mike Mims. She raised the grand at Houston this year. If my boy was showing, this calf would be really, really hard for me to let go. He'd be in, he'd be in my boy's pen for a while. Calf that I view to go to Houston or Austin. He's going to have that extra bone, extra body, extra maturity, but he's going to stay fresh to his front end on down the road. A calf that I think really, really highly of. Not saying he's going to ever go get a banner, I hope he does, but a calf that definitely has the potential to.
A
Yes, sir. Well then Lot 7 is next. Another golden ticket sired calf out of a cow that's one of yours, Laramie. And it looks like, looks like his muscle shape is perfectly designed for to be a slick steer in my mind.
B
Yep. Another cow we got from Brandon Burch who had been the high seller for Greg Kropo and Boyceville back when they had that sweetheart sale back on Steer Bitter a while back. A gray paint cow that was one of the more unique animals to look at out of the. Out of our golden ticket bull that we had with Ty Webster, that's a gray paint calf is another calf that we really strive this year to make sure the cattle were as good in terms of their feet and legs as we could possibly be. He is built so athletic, so sound on his legs. He's a calf that balances well when he Stays in motion, walks with his head in the air. He's a calf that like you said, I think would be a really good slicking one. Wasn't blessed with the best hair in the world. I don't know if a hair show is his endpoint, but definitely a calf that once again he could go from San Angelo all the way to Houston all the way to a later April county fair. I like these Mayborn calves to go on down, down the road to them later shows just because like I said, you're going to get that extra bone, you're going to get that extra maturity. And right now we're at an industry weight really is irrelevant. They're just trying to pick the best cattle.
A
Well then Lot 8 is next. And if there's a father out there with little girl, I think this is the best one for them in terms of being a class. One through four is kind of his endpoint. He's got the big shag, he's got the presence, he's got the rib cage. He's a trust and obey out of the Campbell and Floyd's donor called they call squash. He's a Here I am broker. What's your thoughts on this one?
B
Yeah, I'll be honest, he's a forever lightweight, but someone's got to be competitive in it. Calf will have hair to the ground. Calf that's good body, good looking. He is absolute rock solid for a younger showman. Very gentle alter, broke like to the max. Could take him to a show the next day. Kf, that's going to be a really fun project. A cat that you're going to get to kind of feed throughout the year. You won't have to sit on him like some springboards. And he's always going to look good. You're always going to like going out and looking at him for sure.
A
Well then lot nine is next. And this is actually a maternal SIB2 golden ticket. He's a man amongst boys out of golden ticket's mother. Obviously you list him as a bigger calf amongst to the group but seems to be he'd be really good county fair calf. Amarillo Classic, you outlisted as well as Phoenix.
B
Yep.
A
Talk to me about his end point. What you think of him.
B
Calf that once again really good structured, good bodied, rock solid calf, no glaring holes. Calf that a person is going to get the feet on. I wish he was a little darker colored. I'd say people could run him as a English at Dallas, but he is lighter colored. That is what it is. But like I said, I mean we can take him to Amarillo, we can take him to Phoenix. We can take him somewhere, be real, real competitive with the hair Calf that could shave off too. That's just really fundamental. Really good bodied cattle out of this cow flat out feed. They don't miss a cell. I don't know if any of them have missed a cell. Calf that just gets better with time. Cattle out of this cow flat out feed.
A
Well then Lot 10 is next to and he's a golden ticket out of 752. She's an American Idol heat wave. This calf reads to be a little lighter weight. So I think his endpoint could be down the road later in the spring. Looks like a really nice slicking calf.
B
Yeah, he could shear. He had really good hair. He's one I raised here in Canyon. Actually partnered on this cow with the Cliff family. She was my pick out of the quirky wise dispersal. That cow is one unique looking animal. And she stamped this calf with the big muscle, the high neck, the good running gear. Calf that had good hair. We could go to Fort Worth if we want to be a middleweight division, I think. And then white ones seem to be awfully popular there. Or we can shave him. He'll have that extra presence and stuff and we can show them at Houston Ross and if need be, calf that's got lots of stars on my book. Another one that if shepherd was showing he'd be another one that I would be a really good rock solid candidate that I would want to keep around for a while.
A
Well then lot 11 is next. He's a how great thou art out of McFarland's 2025. Obviously he is related to the James family's gray and white paint steer. Talk to me about him and his background. Obviously he's related to a couple cattle that are very, very noticed here in the industry.
B
Yeah. So another cow that we actually sold her and share the brand are all at McFarland and he ended up buying my half out. And really fortunate to be sending that cow to a good home where we get the calves back to be able to promote them and get them in the right homes. Another calf that was raised in Texas so he ain't quite as just furry as the other ones that came from the Midwest. Not quite as cold down here as it is up there. A calf that I think could be a really, really good candidate for Denver Fort Worth. He'll have good hair. He's a calf like you said, full Citadel. James is great paint that was obviously highly Highly competitive throughout the summer. He's a calf that I think is extremely high quality calf that could shear off because he's got the right kind of bag shape, the right kind of throat and chest. A calf that's really good on his, on his structure as well.
A
Yes, sir. Well then lot 12 is next and he's a full sib. He's a solid red steer. Obviously you list that he's the slicking type. Houston, San Antonio, somewhere in his end point for sure.
B
Yeah. He will not have good hair calf that is destined for a slicker show. I'm just going to be completely upfront on that. I actually think this calf may be one of the better buys in the sale. Calf that was on maybe came in just a little bit skinnier. It's taking a little bit of time for him to catch up. But I think when he gets to become a Red Cross or a Maine on down the road at San Antonio, Houston, Austin in that red division, if we decide to take him there, a calf that is very fundamental, very functional. He's got a rope neck on him. He's a calf that I think if you're wanting to find the sleeper in the cell that's going to end up catching everybody and then the calf will definitely be in that realm, well then.
A
Lot 13 would be a full sib to lot 10. Obviously. He's really big bodied, huge footed, definitely flexible on the move. You say he's got soft hair that's competitive over the summer jackpots but could run as a semi down the road. What do you think?
B
13 is a real good bodied one that is gentle. 14 is the one that needs a little bit more of an experience. Showman, how it reads on the deal. That's my bad. That 14 is a real goose necked one that's hard, hard muscled. He's a slick shearing one. Thirteen is the brother that I think could go to Fort Worth, be a middleweight or he can shave him off, be a simmental, be an aoc, be a charolay cat. That's very nice. I think both those are completely different in terms of their type and kind. 13's just a little bit more practical in his body. 14 is the weird looking high neck, big muscled one. 14 I think needs a little bit more of an experience.
A
Okay, awesome. Well then lot 15 is next. He's a. Here I am out of Cal. That's called Oprah. Obviously he's a Maybourne, so probably a little younger compared to some, but seems to have real good hair quality. But could definitely slick off and go to San Antonio, Houston.
B
Yeah. Cow that sold and share the brand. This would be the first, one of the very first calves I had. Another calf that was raised in Texas. He doesn't have the big, big th wool, but I think his hair would be soft enough where if we wanted to go to Fort Worth, Denver, he's obviously going to have that capability. He could be a black or a Maine on down the road at San Antonio or Houston or Austin. A calf that has a world of presence. Neck shoots right at the top of his shoulder. 0 chest calf that draws back really, really good in his lines. Maybe not the huskiest muscled one in the world, but it doesn't look like to me the stoutest ones are winning right now. It's just the cattle that are the most, most complete. And I think this calf will definitely capture a lot of attention. Ringside.
A
Lot 16 is next. You got a dark red steer that's out of water to wine on a cow that you own with McKay. This is the first calf out of that cow that you list. And obviously, I mean, that's big, shagged really high tying long neck calf that's got huge feet and legs that can move.
B
Yup. Calf that is extremely good looking. Really, really good structure to calf that's extremely high neck, no throat, no chest calf. Like I said, his mother would be one that McKay family campaign as a show heifer. His grandma actually would have raised the Grant, the grand steer at Oye. The bull that we call the revenant that me and McKay own and the cat that was just selected second in Class 10 at Fort Worth. I think power's in the blood here. I think we can run this calf as a shorthorn at Fort Worth, be highly competitive. We branded three of them in that class. They were first, second and third in the heavyweight shorthorns this year. And I think that that calf there could garner a brand. He's got the big ring presence, he's got the big good body and he's got the big stout hind leg.
A
Lot 17's next. You got a kind of gray and white paint calf here. He's an In God we trust out of Gretzka6. Obviously he's a March born, so he's probably a little heavier weight, maybe a little more further along than a few others. Obviously this steer is really complete. Reads to be dual purpose. You say he's got the pedigree to have the extra wool, but he definitely has the slick shear in shape for sure.
B
Yeah. So this gray and white One I am a huge fan of this calf. Calf that is par for part the most complete calf in the sale. Calf that his hair cycle is a little off right now. I guarantee you. I bet my life on the calf will be just huge, huge haired. A full sib to the one Tracy was just reserved with at Fort Worth this past year. Full sib duck, I suppose the grand steer at OIE for the Norvell family. This calf, I absolutely love him in terms of just being so fundamental. So good structured, easy feeding. Isaac calf that has the presence. He walks around with his head up. He may not be the stylist in his pen set route when you step in behind him, but I think that the calf is just exceptional in terms of his structure. You can use all the beta agonists in the world. You can implant him if you want. I think the calf can be highly, highly competitive at Denver or Fort Worth. I think a calf that is definitely one of my absolute favorite haired ones in the entire cell.
A
Awesome. Well then 18 is next and he's a How great thou out of Dora. Dora's 004. Obviously. I mean you kept it short and simple with his comment. But that's a big shag. Big footed calf that I think would really do well somewhere at Denver or Fort Worth.
B
Yup. Calf that one of the more unique animals I've had on my place. Huge soft feet and ankles. Huge bone, huge haired calf that I think if you're wanting to be highly competitive at a national show or Fort Worth or Hawaii, the calf you need to put your eyes on them. We highly recommend everybody trying to get to Canyon to look at the cattle. We know we live in the absolute middle of nowhere. It's hard to get to but I think that the set of cattle we put together are worth viewing in person. And I think that this calf, whoever comes but definitely have him starred and circled. One of the fan favorites calf that I like a lot of things about.
A
Well then lot 19's next. He's another full sib to lots 11 and 12. Solid red steer that is really, really good. Built round bodied like you say. He's obviously skeletally wide as they come. Very good footed. Talk to me about his end point. Obviously he reads to be the slick and kind for San Antonio Houston.
B
Yeah. Another cat that's not blessed with a bunch of hair raised down here in Texas. I'm gonna go out on a limb and say I think that this may be one of the best animals that cow has raised. If that's good size for San Antone, I think in that Red Cross division, I think the calf will be extremely competitive. Calf is built incredible. He's wide, he's good bodied, he's high necked. He's got ditch running down his back. One of the better breed steers that I've had for a shearing show that I've had on my place in a long time.
A
Yes, Sir. Well, lot 20 is next. He's a Shaq attack out of Man Amongst Boys and might correct me, but Shack Attack was the same sire to Jet Hills white one that won the Charlize in Houston this last year. Correct?
B
I think that is. Is correct. Yep. Calf that obviously had a lot of favorites. And the ringside calf ended up being reserved grand. I think that this yellow paint, absolute freak unleashed. There's not a longer necked one, there's not a bigger boned one, there's not a stouter one. A calf that's very dual purpose. We can show them at Fort Worth. He's going to have that color that's really hard to turn your dangs. You're going to capture the Mr. Ward's attention when you hit the ring for all those outlying pieces. Calf that's a little on the skinnier side, but I think a cast that is a middleweight division at Fort Worth. Or we can take him on down to the road to Houston.
A
Lot 21 is next. You kind of got a white baldy calf here. Obviously he's got the big shag. He's a red rocky. Here I am. Obviously he'd be in contention to go to Denver or Fort Worth. Where else do you see his end point being? You could run as a semi as well also. Where'd you acquire him? You said you saw him in the pasture and knew you had to have him.
B
Yep. A good buddy of mine in southeast Iowa raised the calf. Guy that's no, no stranger to the, to the backdrop over there at Seiko's Place. A calf that's perfect, structured, good bodied, round rib calf that's stout ended. I think he's a. I think he's one of the lighter weight classes at Denver. Middleweight division at Fort Worth. Take him on down the road, Oieb. Highly competitive in the Simmentals or we can shave him off, show them as a black or Simmental or Maine at Houston. I think that this calf is extremely, extremely high quality. One of my. That's really high on my list within the sale. He's bred just a little different, but I think that the calf is really, really high quality. Once Again, another calf that's very, very tame, very gentle. That first year showman will definitely have a lot of fun with. I think the calf is very dual purpose. We can take him wherever we need to.
A
Lot 22 is next. You got a black and white calf here. He's a. Here I am out of a cow. It's called June Bug. Obviously he's a little heavier weight, little earlier in terms of his date of birth. So him being a heavier calf for Denver, Fort Worth for sure or could be an county fair there in the fall. What do you think of this calf?
B
Yeah, real trendy made calf that like it states on there. I mean I think you go to Tulsa, I think you can go to a later state fair somewhere. Calf that, you know, I listen to your podcast with the Fort Worth judge and you know, you talk about them black ones how they might not look quite as mature at the lighter weights. I think that this calf would be a really good candidate for class 12. Maybe a guy could even get lucky enough to be 10th in that class, class 12 and get himself another 200,000 if you're lucky. Calf that's high neck, good running gear. Calf that I view to be on the bigger side when we get to Fort Worth or show them at an earlier show as well. Out of a really, really good cow that raised a really good silver calf that ended up winning Kansas City.
A
Lot 23 is next. He's an end God we trust out of one oak. Obviously a little heavier weight reads to be a holdover type of calf. But it seems that you're pretty high on this one and want people to come check this one out. Obviously real long necked. His length of proportions, hip and hind leg and the size of his foot is real impressive.
B
Yeah, this one's one of the. One of the most unique animals I've had in my place. A calf that's dog gentle. A calf that I think has the caliber, has the build, that can be really, really competitive at a very high caliber show. One of my absolute favorites I've had set foot on my place calf that like I said, I would really like people to come view the cattle in person. That way everyone can see them and I think that you will not be disappointed when you get here to view this calf. He is a good looking husky, big backed choke neck, good running deer calf that is extremely high quality.
A
Well then lot 24 is next and this one's a full CID to the grand champion there at Denver this year. Obviously got the big, big ag, the big feet, his Length of proportions and look from the side is probably the most impressive thing about him. But I'd love to see this one in person.
B
Yeah, like you said, full sip of the grand at Denver this past year. I think this one, this calf is probably the absolute most asked about calf. Just got fortunate on the timing I guess for when his brother won Denver and then we post the sale right after. So I mean he's been very, very popular and for good reason. Really big feet, really soft ankle. He's got all the things that we're after in the show ring right now. Big, attractive hind leg, big feet, big hair. He's a cat that's round in his body shape. He's a calf that's really high in terms of his neck state zero throat and chest. And he is the absolute hairiest animal I've ever had. In my place it is to the ground. The calf is good. He's a little on the skinnier side, but I think once the calf gets fed right he goes to the right home calf. Could be competitive. Just needs the right family to get him across.
A
Well, lot 25's next. He's a. How great thou art on a. Here I am huda man. He's an April born. Obviously you call him a freak on the leash and he's a full brother to the steer that the Rathmans exhibited in Fort Worth last year in Class 11. They were fourth place there. Obviously his presence and silhouette from the side is impressive and still comes with a short big back. Talk to me about him and where you think he can end up.
B
Yeah, real high neck calf zero throat and chest full suited Rathbuns. He's a calf that. There's things that are different about this one than that one, but they still have that real captivating look. I don't know if anyone remembers that calf but I mean they had bones the size of Texas. Neck comes right out of the top of their shoulder. Huge forearm cattle calf that I actually think is a little stronger topped a little bolder bodied than the Rath and steer. Maybe not quite as big and is just his rear foot size, but a calf that will have big, big shag cat, all this cow feed calf that I have a lot of stars by.
A
Yes Sir. Well, lot 26 is next. A real unique one. Obviously a yellow and gold paint calf could run as a semi there at San Antonio or Houston, but has the shaggy to head to Fort Worth or something of that nature. Talk to me about where you'd like to see his end point at in his story.
B
Yeah, this is another one that I view. We push him hard, we get in Class 12. We'd be highly competitive in that class. Calf that's got good hair. I think his best day though probably will be at San Antonio in the Simmentals. Calf that's real good leg and real round body. Got the right kind of bag shape and hip shape to shear off. Calf that's got the right kind of pieces. A calf that I think is best in point. Like I said, heavier weight calf at Denver to Fort Worth or we take them to San Antonio. Maybe got a little too much gas in the chamber, maybe to wrap them all the way to Houston. But certainly a calf that I think will be fun.
A
Yes, sir. Well, then lot 27 is next. Really dark gold stear and he's obviously u list as a real nice dual purpose calf. So it could end up as what it reads to be probably top of the middleweights or heavyweight at Fort Worth or could end up as a limousine there at San Antonio as well.
B
Yeah, really good old calf that's exceptional on his structure. Huge feet, soft ankle, perfect set to his hind leg in the pasture. This was one of my absolute favorite calves. He still is when he got here. Still is today. When I haven't been home in a week. Been at Fort Worth and he's still one that just demands your attention. He's choke neck, zero chest, perfect length of body. We can take him wherever we need to. He's got big time hair. I think on the green carpet at Denver he'd have that gold colored cattle. I liked how they looked. I think at Fort Worth obviously we know that the Charolais are extremely competitive. Or he's got that pretty leather colored look that we can shave off. And we know how competitive those colored cattle are down the road. And I think his quality is certainly one that would be higher in the class than lower.
A
Yes, Sir. Well, lot 28 is next. It looks to be a solid black calf. He's a how great thou art on an end God we trust walks alone cow. He was March born, heavier weight. Breeds to be probably like. Like a county fair calf. Or you could run him there Amarillo Classic like Laramie lists or Phoenix. He's a out of the his mother's a full sister to Floyd steer that had one San Antonio there. Talking about this cap's end point where you'd like to see him.
B
Yeah, I think another cap that's like a heavier weight for Denver, Fort Worth. One of them later classes at Denver taken to a later State Fair Amarillo or Phoenix. Big haired calf tied up. This calf looks awfully, awfully good. He's so gentle. He walks around with his head maybe just a little bit lower. Doesn't just demand you attention out in the pen, but we show him on a halter and this one tied up is definitely one that you like a lot of things about.
A
Yes, sir. Lot 29 is next. He's a How great thou art monopoly. He's an April born. Obviously you said this is one of your favorites when you were traveling around the country back in the early, early a fall. But great feet and legs. From what it reads like, he's got a huge back leg, really high tying. From what it reads like, just down his picture. Talk to me about where you want his endpoint at and what he works for.
B
Yep. Probably be in the more competitive classes 6 through 9 or 10 at Denver being class 10 or 11 at Fort Worth. Calf that huge monster. Perfectly shaped feet, soft pasture and huge back leg, high neck, zero chest, round body. Calf that's extremely stout. His hair cycle, he was extremely hairy as a baby. He's a calf that's got the real good kind of cutting hair. I think when this one comes full fleece in the wintertime next February, hopefully we're blessed with a little bit cooler weather throughout the year. I think when this calf gets extremely hairy, I think that this calf will be highly, highly competitive. He's got all the right parts that you need to start with. Calf that you just can get the feet on all year and put them where you want them to go.
A
Yes, sir. Lot 30s next. Solid silver calf here. He's out of a name God we trust on a how great thou art cow. Obviously he's really dimensional, really massive feet and legs. Dense made animal born in February. So he's definitely further along in terms of his maturity compared to others. Where do you think he needs to end up?
B
Yeah, another calf that really you could take him to an earlier show. The absolute burliest body, the absolute stoutest, the absolute biggest bone. Sound sound calf. I have an exceptional cow that Nolan Ferguson and Wade Rogers would have sold together in their September sale two years ago. Calf that I think is just unbelievably burly. You can put him in whatever class you want to. He's a little bit older, heavier weight calf, but his frame reads like. He won't maybe be the tallest one in the world, but a calf that I think will be a lot of fun. We've been fortunate to have some success at Amarillo I think that that calf might even fit that and be highly, highly competitive there as well.
A
Yes, sir. Well then lot 31 is next. Another solid silver calf. From what it reads like he's a here I am out of Smith and Carroll's tremendous Cal 606. Obviously a Maybourne, so he's younger of the group, but definitely to me would be an awesome middleweight there at Fort Worth. Reads to have the big shag or you could take him down the road to Houston or even Austin and definitely give them, give them the right look for an AOC calf.
B
Yep. That's actually a gray paint. I know he looks like he's gray in that picture. He's got a white dot in his head. He got some white in his legs and his belly F that. You know, we've always had a 606 every year that I've had to sell. Even when I was down in Waco, the very first one, Georgia Besner would have showed he was third behind the champion Reserve Exotic at Fort Worth. Then we had a here I am 606 at Bonhambot that I think was third at at OIE if I'm not mistaken, behind the Champion Reserve in that division two years ago. Sold a 606 that was third behind the calf that was Champion Reserve Exotic at Fort Worth last year when Mark Hogue showed that the Grub family exhibited that Bonham bot. I think that this calf's in the caliber of those. We always have one in the sale. This one is really, really high quality. High neck, zero throat, zero chest. Calf that's round bodied for 606. I like the way that his hip and hind leg is constructed from the side and from behind. It looks like his hock placement is more ideal than some of those cattle can be. Them cattle are really, really tremendous cattle. But I think that he takes it to the next level for planting the most attractive hippon hind leg of all those that I've had in the sale and in the past.
A
Yes, sir. Well, lot 32 is next. Be a silver calf. Be also a maternal sib to lot 30. But he's out of the awesome bull. King of Kings. Another Maybourne that could definitely have a lot of variety of end points. Talk to me about what you think. He's obviously real nice dual purp calf.
B
Yep. Calf that has the real real dense hair coat. He's a later born calf that. I mean this is as rock solid of a cell making calf at Fort Worth that I think I have. I mean he is round bodied, he is husky he is wide, square pins. He's got that hip and hind leg that the judge has said on the mic and in your podcast before that you have to have to be able to garner a brand calf that could shear off. A calf that you're going to get to show all summer. You're not going to have to sit there and crash on him. You're going to like your project all year long. A calf that's just awfully fundamental, awfully rock solid and very, very high quality.
A
Yes, sir. Lot 33 is next. Real dark red steer that's out of how great thou are on a cow that's called Nora. Obviously the holdover kind. He's a February born, so he's a little further along in terms of his maturity pattern. But this calf's foot size and the way that he looks from the side in terms of his proportions is really neat to me.
B
Yep. If y' all haven't kept up, I'm sure everybody has. These Nora cattle are setting the world on fire. Nolan sells embryos for 7 to 8,000 a pop just out of this cow. The calves in the cell average just a staggering amount. And not only do they sell good, but man, they have been feeding, they have been winning shows consistently. And I think that this calf is awfully, awfully good for one of those. To me, it looks like he might be just a little bit rounder in his body, a little huskier in his center body and his hip and his and his stoutness from behind. He's got a hip and hind leg that will make anybody's mouth water. He's dark red. We can all use our imagination on what we might can make him be at Fort Worth, but if you take him to Denver, man, I think a red one would look really, really good on that green carpet with that lighting, with that wall. I think the cast very good. He got in a little later. I haven't got around to Dee Horn and him or those other 2 how great RCC ones that are in there. The end God and the king of kings. But they'll. We can dehorn them here, actually. Probably going to do it tomorrow. Calf that's got a hind leg that is to die for. He's maybe one of the absolute easiest feeding calves in the class. He's not going to be lightweight. He's going to be in the running, he's going to be in the heat classes. But that calf there, I'm not really scared to put him up against stiff competition.
A
Yes, sir. Lot 34 is next and he's a how great thou art on the in God we trust walks alone cow that we've talked about here prior. Obviously he's a mayborn so he's a little younger but really, really dark yellow calf that's black nose. So obviously he could run as a Lemmy somewhere between San Antonio, Houston. But talk to me about his variety of end points.
B
Yep. I'll say this, if he's yellow, would not leave my barn if my boy was showing. I love this calf. I love everything about him. Choked neck, round body, perfect structured, huge hip, huge back calf. He's a little different colored but you dang sure he'll stand out in the ring. One that I've got a lot of stars I think will be a really good shearing calf on down the road.
A
Well then lot 35 is next. He's a how great thou art on a cow that's over perfect on perfection. Over 6. He's a Mayborn so obviously a little younger compared to some. But I mean this steers feet and legs, his shoulder angle and hip design to me is really intriguing. Yes.
B
This is a calf that just you can just ride. Everything about him in terms of how good his structure is, you'll get bragged about every time. You're going to get to feed him all year long. He's on the, he's on the smaller side in the sale, but I think he's going to be a class 10 come Fort Worth. He's a class 6, 5, 6, 7 at Denver. I think his best endpoint might even be oye calf that is just awesome colored. His running gear is absolutely off the charts. He's got that huge body, he's got the presence, he's got the next set. He's a calf that is extremely, extremely high quality. He's a calf that you get to feed some beta agonists to and just stouten him up just a little bit. But the calf is just flawless in terms of its structure. Rounding out the set of steers with one that I think is extremely high quality.
A
Yes, sir. Well now to move on with the heifers. Lot 36, she's a red elephant out of the cow that we've talked about that. So she'd be a maternal sib to some of those there in the steers. But that's a nice maternal image from the side, obviously. Real refined about her head it reads. And her really big ankle. It looks to move incredibly well on the video.
B
Yeah. So we put four heifers in the cell and I typically keep Everything back to make bread heifer cells out of. But these four looked like they were ready to go on a sale. I mean this one here, it's hard to let her go because this is one that I usually would probably only sell half interest of when she's a big heavy bread. The female is as good of an animal that's in the entire cell. Her structure is awesome. She's brown bodied, she's stout. She's a heifer that I can't say enough good things about. I think she'll generate incredible. She's a heifer that I just absolutely love. I have not tested any of the heifers for Roth PHA or DS but if I was a betting man, her head smooth. I'm not guaranteeing it, but I think there's a really high possibility she could be clean. Where you could take her back to how great. You could take her back to here I am or any golden ticket or any other bulls and do that and raise some really competitive cattle. That'll be dual purpose. Or she comes back dirty. There's a slew of clean bulls that you can breed her too that are very. That would be very complimentary to her. I can't say enough good things about this heifer.
A
Yes, sir. Well, then you got a solid red female in 37. Obviously she's a full sib duck. Multiple steers that you have there up in the sail. But also to ready for war. A bull that has been extremely renowned here recently. But talk to me about her, what you think she could work to and then her phenotypically.
B
Yep. So this heifer here, I had to do a lot of arm pulling to let Raleigh be able to let me sell her a heifer that was unbelievably hairy. I'd bet she's dirty if I'm a betting man and I am a betting man, but I would bet she is th hot. And probably DS dirty as well. But like I said, there's clean bulls. You can take two King of Kings, Top dog, Red, White and the Light. You can pick and choose which bulls you want to use. I'm not going to go through all of them. But a heifer that mimics and replicates Luke James's calf in terms of structure, bone presence, hair, body. She's a heifer that's good sized. She's not on the smaller side. She's a good sized heifer that I like. A lot of things about you can show her or you can just make her a donor. As you can see going through the cell. It just happened to be where most of the cattle in the cell are out of really high caliber donor cows that if you're looking to try to raise them. These four heifers that are in the cell are out of cattle that we feel are cornerstones for several operations that are going to raise high caliber cattle.
A
Yes, sir. Well, then you got a gray and white painting. 38. She's a. Here I am over the cow that, that we just talked about. So she's a maternal SIB237. Obviously a little bit different in her type and kind. She's probably not as extended or proportional, but I think that she's really burly, really dense features. Female.
B
Yeah, she's a little different speed. She's more of usually what I what my friends like to tell me my cows look like a little bit more on the edge in terms of muscle and neck set and roundness of body and bone and foot size. Heifer that, you know, I think will, like I said, she. She looks like something that'll generate a lot of high caliber cattle. Heifer that is out of a tremendous cow and an awesome bull female that we like a lot of things about.
A
Yes, sir. Then 39 is next. And this is to round out the sale. Shorthorn's inner blood. She's out of perfection over a cow that you own with Brian Martin. And obviously she is extremely neat in terms of her neck set and attachment and the way her rib cage is designed as well. I mean talk about her and what you think she can do and be mated to.
B
Yep. So here's a heifer that ran out the cell that's perfect structured female inside of a cow that like you said I own with Brian. We've been a little slow on getting her started and I think once you see her and then you see her, her brothers that are over at lines that'll be in as much we can sell. There's a shorthorn over there that as good of a fallborn shorthorn I've seen in several years. I think the calf will be very, very popular. And this would be a full sib to him. A heifer that's just ultra maternal ultrasound. Her great grandma goes back to the mother of the great C15 cow that Brian Martin has had several cattle out of that have gone on to win San Antonio and gone on to be extremely high selling cattle. This is a female that you can raise shorthorns, you can raise club cat or exotics out of a heifer. Like I said, have not th tested or did any of the tests on them, but her forehead is flat and she is not just blessed with just unruly hair. So I would bet my life she's probably clean. But like I said, have not tested them. So I'm not going to sit here and say she is, but she is just ultra fundamental, ultra big bodied. Really good way for us to ride out herself.
A
Absolutely. For sure. Well, it's very deep and very high quality sale and it happens on February 16 there on steer bidder. Obviously your phone number is listed on there. Grateful that you were able to come on and glad that you believe in us to represent your cattle and hope that it all goes well. And for anybody that's interested, y' all have heard everything about the lots, but if you have more questions, you can go ahead and reach out to Laramie. Is there anything else you want to tack on before we end this? Laram Yep.
B
So like we said, I mean we've been this is our sixth annual February sell after Fort Worth that we've had. I think it's the absolute deepest group of cattle that we've. We've sold to date. There have been a lot of cattle that come out of these sales that have gone on and gotten banners, been highly competitive classes make the sale. We're not real good at promoting the stuff that comes out of our place as as much as we need to be. But I think that this set is without a doubt the deepest and best set of cattle I've put together. We really highly recommend everybody coming up up to Canyon to look at the cattle. They're all out in the front pens. Would love to have everybody up and we can't wait to place them into the next their next homes and can't wait to be able to follow them throughout the year and hopefully we can make a big impression on the new families and we can garner some breeds and some banners and some sail holes and keep everybody happy. We just really are fortunate that and blessed that y' all clicked onto this podcast to listen and viewed our sale online. If you have any questions, do not hesitate to reach out. We're here to help out as much as we possibly can. God bless and thank you all for tuning in.
