Well, everybody, we're back with another preview. Super grateful for the opportunity that I get with this one. I found it on Steel Bidder and I knew who Rocking H was due to some prior sales that I've seen and the quality has always been really good. And I gave Mr. Blake a holler to see if he was interested, and he was all on board in the first phone call. So now we're here. We're being able to do a preview on their awesome heifer and donor prospect sale. Very excited. The quality of the sale is phenomenal. I'm gonna have Mr. Blake introduce himself so everybody knows his voice and kind of what his background is and what they do there at Rocking H. And then we're going to go through all these lots and dive into them for you. So, Blake, take it away.
B
Hi, I'm Blake Holly, located in Le, Oklahoma. We run several cows from donors to recips for other people. We started doing sales two years ago with Steer Bidder. We feel like we have a very good offering this time and would love to talk to you guys about them.
A
Absolutely. For sure. Well, with that said, I don't necessarily know if there's a better way. You could have started off with lot one. Y' all call her tag six, but she's a How great thou art over yalls donor 84. And she's a something else. It's a triple clean prospect. And from what it looks like, that is one barely dense made female. How did you acquire her? What's the donor like? Give me the rundown on her.
B
So I was in Texas doing a hotshot job, and my stepson and son in law called and was like, hey, there's a red steer out here that was born. And I was like, okay, well, that's cool. And they're like, oh, never mind. It's a heifer. And I was like, oh, darn the luck. And we kind of watched her progress and we're like, oh, man, we might have something here. She comes back from a cow family that came from Ryan Went. She'd be three generations from the purchase from Ryan Went. Stuff we've just created on our own. And I don't know if you call it luck, but we're sure proud of her. The only thing I change is I Wish I had 10 of them.
A
Right, right? Yes, sir, for sure. Well then what. What do you bull wise like if. If someone was to buy her, what sires do you think she works to? So if someone is curious to know when they purchase her?
B
Well, I mean, I Think you could go right back to here? I am. I know some people may think it's crazy, but she's going to be kind of moderate built in my eyes. I think you could go back to in God. We've kind of played around with golden ticket a little bit. I don't have just a surefire read on those cattle yet. I know they're getting better with time, I think. Say no more. It may be getting a little bit close, but sometimes I think that's how you get the next level ones is lining them up like we always do, right?
A
Yes, sir. For sure. Awesome. Well, then in lot 2, y' all have yalls tag 730 is what you call her. She's an in God we trust rumchata. She is a marchborn and a th Carrier silver heifer. That is phenomenal in her look. And her feet and legs look even that much better. Talk to me about her. And then her cow her on the dame side as well. How. How she looks and how y' all have proven y' all success with that cow.
B
Well, this one actually come from Kale Hensley. He's a good buddy of mine. I believe he went over to Dean Kepharts and picked up two or three heifers earlier this fall, and he asked if we're gonna do some steer cells together. So he's like, what do you think if we put some of my heifers in? I'm like, yeah, let's do it. And so she comes back from a KA Bar cow. I don't know a lot about the cow, but when he unloaded her off the trailer, I was like, hey, what's that thing? And he's like, oh, that's one I got from Dean. I think she's very solid. I really thought she was clean before we tested her. It's unfortunate she's not. But I think there's red, white and delights calling her name.
A
For sure.
B
I think there's a lot of potential she's probably could show as a commercial heifer. She may be just a tad punchy, but we think a great deal of her. And her structure is very phenomenal. Absolutely floats around the picture pen her.
A
Red and white delight. King of kings. Water to wine. Bulls like that I think work really well on her.
B
Yeah, we have some king of king cabs this year that we're. We're pretty intrigued by for sure.
A
Absolutely. Well, then in lot three one, that is very, very impressive. In my mind, she's a say no more maternal maid. Another March born and Triple clean with that. I think that that is a supreme package.
B
Yeah, I think the pedigree, the maternal maid cows around here, as you can see, just knock it out of the park. And this is one that Cal Hensley's neighbor raised. We had one say no more calf that was born dead this year, which is unfortunate, but after seeing this heifer, I'm glad. I bred quite a few cows back that way. Her neck set's incredible. She's got very good feet and legs. She's got enough spring of rib and she's stout enough. She's not overly stout. I kind of contemplated with Kale, I was like, man, I'm not so sure she wouldn't show. And he's like, I don't think you'll get along. I don't know. You'll get the belly of the show heifer world, which I don't particularly raise show heifers per se. So in my mind she's a little more toned down. But I think with that being said, you can swing for the fences any way you want, for sure.
A
Well, then in lot five or lot four, my apologies. Lot four, you got a baldy, black and white female that is a New World Order Irish whiskey. She's a double dirty TH carrier. DS Carrier. But honestly, I don't mind them like that because when they're able to move like she does and have the big time hair, I think that that just makes it all that better.
B
Oh, yeah. She was our first new world order we've ever raised. She's came on strong, she's got a good attitude. Clayton Weatherly was here helping us clip and we kind of got done clipping her. And he's like, you know, I think she could show. And I was like, I think you're right. I didn't know before. We buzzed her hair off 100%. But her hair and her color, striking. I think she's another one. Red, white and delight King of kings, maybe even golden rule. I've kind of flirted with using him. I think we have used him. We don't have any calves, but I think there's a lot of upside. Her mom has done a good job raising heifers for us. I think we sold one last year for 5,500 out of that same cow. Here I am heifer in one of our sales. So I think that ones you definitely want to pay attention to also.
A
For sure. She's really neat jawed and tidy chested for being as clubby as she is. That's one thing that I really like about that heifer. So then in lot 5, you got tag 17 is what y' all call her. She's a zookeeper. Monopoly business done right. Only a th carrier and just looks like presence is what she's all about. Very, very intriguing from the profile.
B
Yeah, this is a stout heifer. She's maybe a little flatter made than you'd typically see on this kind of breeding in my mind. But she's wide, she's big legged, very functional, up headed and very good haired. It's hard to pick a hole in this heifer, I think.
A
Absolutely, for sure. What is that a cow that you own, I assume.
B
Yeah. So 1, 4 and 5 so far are all out of my herd. I flirted with putting this cow in the donor pen, but she's never had a steer. I usually don't throw a cow into the donor pen without having a steer, but this mom. And then there's a heifer coming in the next sale in the Maybourne sale. I can't get steers out of these cows, so I think I'm gonna have to push the envelope and go ahead and flush them and maybe sex them to see what we actually.
A
Absolutely. For sure. Well then in Lot 6, you got a How great thou art maternal maid, y'. All color donor 31. She's a Mayborn, so she's a little younger than the rest. But she's a triple clean, which is awesome, especially for that mating. But looks like she's got big time hair, big time presence and can move like a cat.
B
Yeah. Honestly, I didn't think be clean. She was going to be clean. I knew it'd be ph whenever the test came in. I love one that looks like this one. I mean, she's young compared to the rest of these heifers. You know, she's got two more months on her. She may be up there flirting.
A
For sure.
B
Highly over She's.
A
Yes, sir.
B
I don't know. I'm just big on structure. Sell stuff that I feel like someone down the road is going to have to worry about. And I feel like you'll never have to worry about how you want to breed this one.
A
Absolutely. Her on bull like back to good or something of that nature would be really cool to envision calves out of.
B
Yeah. With the red jean. With her red jean. And as long neck as she is. Not so sure that golden ticket or greater good.
A
Absolutely, for sure. Well then in lot seven, y' all got a How great thou art. May we all another marchborn. And she's A DS carrier, just really, really cool headed. But from what it reads on her video, her structure is just flat awesome. She can just get out and go.
B
Yeah. This is one that Kale and his brother Nash acquired. She's one that was very hairy and I was like, she's clean. And her test come back and she's clean. And I'm like, this really opens up the door in my mind. I prefer a clean donor. I'm not saying we don't have dirty donors and I know people breed dirty on dirty, but I just think as moderate as this one is, and I've never done the. Here I am on how great I've seen some guys do it, but I think here I am calling her name. She's just a real complete big middle, stout female.
A
Right, Right. Well, then in Lot 8 you have a maintainer heifer that's up for grab. She's a fair game, which is may we all fair Brandy over Dakota Gold. She is pha carrier and she's an April born. So talk to me about her and, and how you think she works in the maintainer game.
B
I think she could be a show heifer for sure. Fair game. Not many people know, but we bought him from Todd Fair in SC sales. I was shooting for a heifer bull. I don't think he works that way, but I think his females are phenomenal. They're upheaded, they're good looking, they're maybe not as hairy as the club Kev ones in here, but his mom, or this one's mom, has done a good job. She's had some struggles, but when this one came out, she's been cocky every day since she came out.
A
Yes, sir.
B
And she. Okay.
A
Okay. Awesome. What do you think going Back to Lot 8, what do you think that she would work to in the future in terms of sires?
B
I think how great. I mean, I'm a big. How great advocate. If you can't tell. They're probably the most consistent we have around here whether they're on white cows, black cows, red cows. I'm just a big advocate for that bull. I don't know if she. She should carry a red jean going back on Dakota Gold, so I think you could splash in some red with her. The mom's a black baldy, but I have had some color out of that cow. But I think you could also make show heifers out of her if you wanted a breeder. To all me. I, I think that her own meat progeny would be better show heifers than she may be.
A
Yes, sir. For sure. Well then, moving on into Lot 9. You got a How great thou art, Irish whiskey. Talk to me about the cow that she's out of and what she's done, if you do know. And then talking about the heifer.
B
So this donor has worked to. Here I am. She's worked trying to think which bull she went. She's got a one for all in here. So she would be a maternal sister or half sister to 14. Those two are half sisters. I think this one's real good. She's maybe just a little edgy. I don't think you're gonna show her. So, I mean, she's fine to work with. She's not a big fan of the halter, but you can picture walk around her, do whatever you want. But that donor cow is real freak geek necked. She's a little framing, maybe a little harder bellied. The cow is. But her feet and legs are really, really good. I think. How great complimented that cow. Well, by putting some middle in her and the hair just falls off over. This One is a TH carrier and a DS carrier. She's pH. Clean, I think. I know no one's seen the red white delights, but I think spread the word. I had to spread the word Keeff that died at weaning and it was a shame. But I think that's a bull a guy needs to pay attention to. On a heifer like that.
A
Yes, sir, for sure. Well, then in Lot 10 you got a here I am maternal maid. That one looks like a really high tying bold rib female, that's got stout feet and legs. She's a TH carrier and DS carrier. And watching her video, she's definitely acquired both of those. Of those characteristics. I'm real high on this one. What do you think?
B
This heifer came in green and I was kind of down on her. She is a full sister to our lot two heifer. In our December sale of last year, I think half interest to her fetched 5,500 or something. I'd have to go back and look, but I think this heifer is better than last year's heifer. She will have to be dehorned, but I mean, her legs are ginormous. She's very big middle for here I am female. Her mom probably just made herself to the donor pen after the last two heifers. She's kind of been the same way. Her mom's young and we had a Maywell heifer and two Here I am heifers. So I think we're gonna ramp her up and see if we can't get some steer calves out of her 100%.
A
Well, then in lot 11, you got another. Here I am over donor 65, which she's a maternal maid. Talk to me about the donor and what she's done for y', all, and. And then we'll talk about the heifer.
B
So this heifer mom, we sold a how great thou our bull kit or steer to Steve Bonham a couple years ago for just shy of 30,000 off the farm. I don't know what happened to him. I imagine he did something somewhere down in Texas. We think a good deal of this cow. She's young. She just happened to make her way to the donor pen a year earlier than the one above from her first calf that we bred clubby. I think you can kind of swing at the fences with this one. King of kings on the Here I am. Deal seems to be working, so I would want to kind of tend to lean that way.
A
Yes, sir. Absolutely. For sure. Well, then, in lot 12, you got a black and white painted up female. She's a high main. She's a prime time Irish whiskey triple clean mayborn. So she's a little younger than her contemporaries, but I don't think that she's short of quality at all.
B
No, she's younger. She's eye appealing. She's probably never going to be huge. But the prime time females seem to be working. Kale Hensley brought me this one, FYI. But I mean, she's very high quality and a young showman gentle. I think this one needs to find its way in the ring, and I think she's dual purpose in the breeding world, but probably more show heifery would be the direction I would head with her. Her structure's good. I just think you can do a lot with that one.
A
Yes, sir, for sure. Well, then in lot 13, you have a How great thou art, Patton. She's a th carrier only. And that one is very, very intriguing from her picture, but looks like a big rib, big hit female. That's super functional. Talk to me about her and how y' all acquired her.
B
So her mom come from a G bar. She did a good job for us. We. We lost her this year when that calf was about 60 days old. Her mom died, and the calf was robbing out in the pasture. And I was like, do we pull her in bottle feed her or let her keep robbing? So we let her keep robbing, and she made it. I guess she's destined for Goodness. Because I've never had good luck bottle feeding one. So I wanted to give her a shot because I knew she was special. And she looks like she should be behind but she done well. I think this one's very, very quality. I don't want to let go of her just because I have no daughters to the mom. But we made a mission to offer our best. So this is our best March April calves. There's a few maize that are sprinkled in. But I think that if I was going to be protecting this one it's maybe just a little bit of her neck. She's kind of a little outgrade neck. She's clean necked. Big middle. I know you're going to give up some neck set whenever you get one this big middle. But I think she's very, very high quality and she's very sound.
A
Very much so. Yes sir. Well then in lot 14 you have another high main. She's a one for all over that Irish whiskey donor that I would assume we talked about prior.
B
Yeah, she's the full sister to the how great Irish whiskey donor. I think this one's definitely a show heifer. She's not for a first time showman. I'll just be honest with you there. The quality's there. I think if someone spent the time with her you can get her there. If nothing else, she's a well of a donor cow to have a high mane with that good a neck set, good legs, good hair. She's built very similar to her mother. I just the one for all females seem to be making their statement in the show heifer world right now. So I don't know why a guy wouldn't want one like that.
A
Yes sir. For sure. Well, and in lot 15 you have a fair game heer and she's triple clean. She is an April born. She looks a little younger, a little smaller in her picture but that is really high tying stout featured female. From what it reads like.
B
Yeah, she's. She's very quality and very upheaded. Very extreme. I think this one shows as well in the maintainer division. She's probably not as stout. It's hard to look at a how great and then drop down here and look at her. I get that. But the quality is there. If she had the shag some of these other heifers she would be up in the in the lineup a lot. Which I mean from top to bottom. I don't feel like we sacrificed quality. I just think they have to fall where they fall. She's Big middle, good topped, good structured. She's got adequate hair for her style of breed. I guess I would say.
A
Yes sir.
B
I think there's a lot of directions and I think she raises show steers and show heifers.
A
Yes sir. Well then in Lot 16 you got a how great thou art monopoly. And she's a th carrier March born. Arguably one of my favorites in the sale. Just watching her video and looking at her picture, I mean big time hair, big time rib and looks like she has huge feet.
B
Yeah, this is the, this is the biggest footed female in the offering. My son in law since the day she's born has just ranted and raved about her and I mean I can't blame him. If she would have had different plumbing, we would be raring to go and whipping and spurring wanting to keep her in the barn. With that being said, I think it takes a female like this to make those types of steers. I mean she's just massive footed, good structured, just big hipped and her neck when she cocks off, she just makes you want to wilt.
A
Yes sir, for sure. Well then, your last live lot of the sale, lot 17, very, very special female might be the best one of the sale in my opinion. But I'm. I love my clubby heifers and I know you do as well. But y' all are selling the show rights and half interest of this female. She is a high main. She's out of Jared Boyerts one for all and and out of the goose 16 he female. Talk to me about how you acquired her and what you think she can do for whoever buys her.
B
Well, Kale Hensley acquired her up there up north. I'd be lying to you if I told you where he got her. Something I'd have to ask him. But anyways, it's irrelevant. We'll find out and we'll post it where she originated from once they'll. Once we get all our footnotes in. But. So anyways, we were talking, he was over there at Trent Ray. He's getting ready for the sale and he's like, hey, I think you need to pay attention to Lot 22. And I was like, okay. So I studied her and I'm like, yeah, she's really, really good. But I'm not a. I'm not show heifer guy. He's like, well I think that this one makes a lot of money. So I started paying attention and everything and we ended up winning the bid on her. I have two daughters and they both show steers they're young. If they were a little older, we wouldn't be letting any of her go. And if she doesn't sell, then we'll show her. We just think she's special as a donor. She's going to make phenomenal show heifers. I think she's going to be a force to be reckoned with at Congress. She's entered. So if someone, whoever buys her, wants to show her in the open show at Congress, Kayl and I will be there to help her get ready and go give them heck at Congress. I just. I don't know. Like I said, I've never been a big show heifer advocate, but I think this is one anybody would want in their lineup in the donor future.
A
Absolutely. For sure. With all this said, that kind of wraps up the sale and. And so y' all can find the. The sale on steer bidder. It. The sale happens on the 29th of December, and today it's the 21st, and we are recording. And so we hope that everybody finds value in this and the sales phenomenal. The cattle are awesome. Mr. Blake, I appreciate you for entrusting us to represent y' all and the cattle that you have to offer. Very excited to see how it goes and glad that you were able to come on, explain the people what the cattle are like and what you think their future looks like. So is there any extra comments that you'd like to add?
B
I would just like to thank everyone that has helped us. You know, it's. I've kind of listened to some of your podcasts, and I do Oil field first. That's how I started out. Cattle are my passion. My dad was a ag teacher. Whenever I grew up, I grew up showing. I never was on the elite winning end. We got along, but my dad had to pay bills to be able to keep raising show calves. And it's just always been a passion and a love. It's my stress relief. I started acquiring some donors here and there 10 years ago. I didn't have a cow. We're well up into over 200 cows now, and we have Transova stationed right out here a mile and a half from our town. So it makes it real easy for us to flush other people's cows and our cows. I just think that there's a lot of good things that are getting ready to come out of Rockin Hill. We have several steer sales coming up with the Hensley brothers, and I think I was doing the math, and there's probably another hundred heifers between now and June that are of equal quality that will be coming through. I just think there's a lot of exciting things and it's hard to get on the roadmap and you have to find your path. And we were selling with individuals and hauling some females like this to the sale barn because we didn't know how to market them. And I contacted Chris Rosa and he's like, hey, let's do it. He said, your, your cattle are phenomenal. He said, you'll get there one day. And I feel like we're finally starting to break the surface and we would love to help people in any manner possible. We have a lot of repeat buyers in the short two years we've been doing it, and I feel like these cattle represent what we are today.
A
Absolutely. For sure. Well, with all this said, I appreciate you trusting us here on empower you to represent you and help you in any way that we can. So I know Blake's info and the Inslee brothers info is on there as well. So I'm sure they'd love to answer any questions if they have any at all, if they're interested in the lots as well. So with all this said is what it's all about. This is why I do it. The cattle are great. Very blessed to be able to do this with Mr. Blake. So with all that said, thank you all for tuning in and we'll see you all next time.
