Chris
Hurricanes fans who have waited years for
Dan
this run and Golden Knights fans ready to turn Vegas into the center of the hockey universe once again.
Chris
Nobody does the playoffs like hockey fans, nobody travels like hockey fans. And nobody loses their minds quite like hockey fans.
Dan
So whether you're chasing your first cup
Chris
or adding another banner to the rafters, we've got you covered.
Dan
Miles on the road, voices nearly gone,
Chris
probably a few terrible decisions along the way, exactly how the Stanley cup finals should be.
Dan
One trophy, one champion, one last push.
Chris
The Stanley cup final starts now and
Dan
empty netters is coming with it. We are live in the chat. Post game rocking. Fresh out of the Lenny. Unbelievable action.
Chris
We got a great action. That's an early great action stamp, Dan. That's a great action stamp on this live.
Dan
Great action in game one. It's unbelievable.
Chris
I feel like we knew it was gonna happen. I feel like we knew the great action stamp was gonna happen because game ones are wonky. I say this all the time. Game ones are wonky. And I actually think that game one might even be kind of what it goes like in terms of. In terms of the level of action. But I would. I wish we had Dan shocked face up what you said about a sweep, which no one thinks it's gonna happen, but I think anyone their best shocked face. If you had told me that was going to be a 5, 4 haymaker session with a goal being scored with 3 minutes left to decide the game.
Dan
It was truly stunning. Stunning stuff. To get nine goals nine times. Unbelievable.
Chris
Insane.
Dan
That was remarkable. We thought this was going to be a goalie duel. Not really saying either. Goalie played poorly because both goalies made great saves. Freddie made a couple monster, monster saves. And I just can't believe it. I feel shell shocked that we had a five, four ripper. Unbelievable.
Chris
It was especially. It was. It was insane because dude, the. The, like ehlers scoring in 20 seconds was. He had just gotten settled. We were all talking about if there'd be a goal in the first 10, if what was going to happen in the first period. And Vegas was actually having a pretty good shift that they got the puck deep. I almost had a give and go. And I think it was Shay that misplayed that or jumped over stick or whatever. But then it was like. I remember hitting you being like, oh. All of a sudden, two on one out of nowhere.
Dan
Oh, yeah, nowhere.
Chris
And it was like. Ping piping in land explodes.
Dan
What a rip. Close personal friend Nick Ers. And shout out 99.9 the fan.
Chris
Oh, dude.
Dan
Shout out our boy Dennis and Tim and Shadow and Tim, of course. But we went on the amazing radio show Talking Canes right before the game and they did a. Who's your first goal scorer? Yeah, and what period? And I go, you, I think you astutely were like, it's probably going to be second period. We might have a stalemate here. And I was like, first period, Nick Ers.
Chris
Now what's funny, first minute, Nikki was
Dan
we get into the barn and I place a bet on. Bet MGM. No, no goal in the first 10 minutes. And I literally turned to Chris and I go, I put 50 bucks on no goal in the first 10.
Chris
As you said it to me.
Dan
I. I literally say that. And then I turn to the ice and Ehlers is on a two on one. It shoots and scores. And I start jumping around going, I called it. But it was right after I was like, I just said, no goal in the first 10 minutes. There's 30 seconds.
Chris
I was literally like, you didn't call it at all. And then I see what you. I see what you meant. Yeah.
Dan
You're like, oh, got it. But listen, the game started about as electric as you possibly could have asked.
Chris
They. Everybody told us the tailgate would be good. It was incredible. Everybody told us it would be loud in there. Hey, Bang ers goal. The roof came off. It was unbelievable.
Dan
If you're not tuning in to the NHL YouTube pregame show with us on Stanley Cup Live 6, 30pm Eastern Thursday, we're going to be back with all these great guests. We had Katie Feeney on today. Unbelievable. We had the Osborne brothers on today. And then obviously the good old Canadian boys, Jarvie's pals, they jumped on. We're going to be hanging with them tomorrow. It's just such a fun time. The cup was there. It's fantastic.
Chris
That was the star of the show. As he always is.
Dan
We talked about it on that show. The tailgate at Lenovo is a fucking joke with how good it is. That thing was nutty. This was a college football, NFL football level tailgate. We had some great friends that we met that we were hanging with. They had two pizza ovens to.
Chris
Two of them. Yeah, two, two literally going simultaneously.
Dan
Twin pizza ovens.
Chris
They brought like shout out, shout out. Michael and Steph. Cuz that was just such a setup. And they.
Dan
Couple of legends.
Chris
Michael, he brought, I think he said he brought 16 pizzas.
Dan
Yeah, I think so. And, and man, this little kid was sitting on the cooler. He was ripped, looked like Bruce Boudreau eating wings, sauce all over his face. And Michael walks up and he's like, hey, get up. Opens up that cooler. There's fresh dough, fresh moths. Perfect pizza dough ready to go. Fresh moths. There was like slices of motto and then shaved Motto.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
He had homemade sauce that he had made the night before. He was ladling it on. He looked like, he looked like a pro.
Chris
The, the, the kneading, the kneading was remarkable at that moment. I was like, oh shit.
Dan
He started kneading and tossing the dough and I was looking at him and I went, are you fucking kidding me now? This is unbelievable. We got to start a shop here. It was, it was just great, great stuff all around. We had the Knievels. Yeah, we're going to, we're going to see them on Thursday. They had a, they had a gigantic, like Coors Light Stanley cup erected.
Chris
I got to get eyes on that. The boy saw that today.
Dan
I will say what we didn't do properly was. I, I. And this was mostly on me. I was like trying to keep it, stay light on my feet before the show. Yeah, I, I gotta, I gotta get barbecue from someone on Thursday.
Chris
I know, exactly. We kind of missed that. Yeah, I, I do want to get it at a real restaurant too, but I also think it's part of the experience of getting it.
Dan
I mean, that's what days off are for.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Yeah, that's exactly rip date down the day. It's pretty sick, man. I just think it is a. We keep trying to, trying to spread the love and the positivity about this game, these two teams in this series and everyone, everyone who is a little salty doesn't want to give it up for Southern hockey. I mean, boys, like, how good was today?
Zach
The, the, the whole day or are you talking about the game specific?
Dan
The whole day? Like fan tastic. Like the, the vibe, the Vibe great.
Zach
I was worried it was gonna be swamp ass hot.
Dan
It's perfect south.
Zach
It was 76 degrees. We walked to the arena.
Dan
Was not humid.
Zach
It was not too bad at all.
Dan
No, I was just great.
Kelly
Yeah, so fantastic.
Zach
Weather was fucking great. Food was great. Yeah, the arena was killer.
Dan
Yeah, it was, it was just, it was just special. Special stuff going all over the place. And we get into the. Lenny and I, I do have to say, man, I mean, we had heard that that place was loud. And, you know, I, I, I, I think I tweeted out. I was like, damn. Yeah, this place is loud. And people are like, we've been trying to tell you. And I was like, I haven't been. What do you want from me? I, I, I hadn't experienced it yet. It was unbelievable.
Chris
You said people coming in. You saw. We, we saw people walking in when they open the doors, people walking in with earplugs. And, and I was like, yo, that is the real deal.
Dan
Crazy.
Chris
That is the real deal.
Dan
What the hell is going on here?
Chris
That was insane. And yeah, man, it was. All the hype building up was awesome. Yeah. I thought the Stanley cup live show today was incredible. And I was really feeling the excitement of being at a Stanley cup game again. More so than even the few days even getting in Raleigh. Just walking into that rink, I was like, here we go, dude.
Dan
Oh, yeah.
Chris
And then we found that sick area. I don't know what that place is called.
Dan
Don't say it. Gatekeep. Gatekeep.
Chris
Gatekeep. Gatekeep. We found that sick area. And then, man, to get that jump right away was a dream start. I mean, it felt just like. It felt just like Montreal game one, when Harvey scored in 20 seconds. And I really, got to be kidding me.
Dan
Yeah. Let's jump into that first period. Let's hear from BetMGM. And then let's get. Let's dig into the game, and let's dig into the first game.
Chris
And everybody, for all the listeners from last year's playoffs. Cause we're coming live for real. Eps, we gotta hit you with some live ad reads. Okay, here we go. Oh, wow. What a great one. I love this one. So, as you all know, the NHL playoffs are here. We're in full swing. What? Camera's on this one. We're in full swing in the NHL playoffs. We're in the Stanley Cup. We just had game one, which means every night is an absolute battle, just like this one. And BetMGM's Hat Trick Jackpot gives you the chance to get in on that action and get your share of 10 GS and bonus bets. All you have to do is make an Anytime goal scorer wager. If that person scores, bang, you won your bet. Congratulations. That's a great bet. We got sent a few tweets today of people hitting a hurdle. Anytime goal scorer.
Dan
Yes.
Chris
People hitting an eelers. Anytime goal scorer. I was seeing those come up all over the place. So you place that Anytime goal score. And if you cash that, congratulations. And if that person gets a hattie or more three or more goals, you get your share of 10 GS in bonus bets. How sick is that? If you're not skating with the BetMGM team yet, sign up now and use that promo code, Netters. That's N E T T. When you sign up, then you get your welcome offer. Then you get your Anytime goal scorer wins. Then you get your hat trick. Jackpot. How are you bet mgm. Make it legendary.
Dan
Make it legendary. Just like this game. We start off the action, Nick Ehlers gets the goal score, and party started in less than a minute. Unbelievable. And then what does he do?
Chris
He does it again.
Dan
He doubles down.
Chris
He does? Yeah.
Dan
He doubles down 11. Dude, he had 11 and he doubles down. Unbelievable.
Chris
Do you Double down on nine? I was just thinking his numbers. Two, seven.
Kelly
Yeah.
Chris
Get dealt the 279. Double down. Boom.
Dan
You got to double down on nine.
Chris
Maybe double down on that.
Dan
But Ehlers gets his six. Fifth and sixth goal of the playoffs. Gets the boys up to nothing. And it felt like an electric factory in that moment. Because you know anyone who I know Canes don't forget. But if you forget, Jarvis scored immediately in game one against Montreal. And then it was like, boom. Immediate. Another one. And it was like, oh, we're out of control. So either is making it to nothing. It was like, hey, Vegas.
Chris
Yep.
Dan
Different beast here. This is a different team. But this is what Vegas does. It was all yes and no. No. Yes. Absolutely. There is no no here. I'll wait for your no, but I don't think there's a no here. This is what Vegas does. They're getting brutally outplayed, brutally outshot. And they get some good puck movement while the barn is still fucking rocking. Yeah, it's like a minute and a half later. Good pass across the point. Theo blasts one on net, hits a little bit. I think Robinson might have gotten a touch on it or something. But ends up in the back of the net and it's 2:1. And I gotta give it up for the Canes. Fans.
Chris
Oh, yeah.
Dan
I. I was actually. I found myself feeling as though I were in a horror movie.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
With how silent it was in that arena when they scored. They're just not a. It was strange, Zach. It actually felt weird.
Kelly
It was actually strange.
Dan
It was like. It went in, and I was like, someone dead on the ice. It's. It's a Morgan.
Chris
Yeah.
Kelly
And I think this is a continual trend in sports where a team like the Canes, who have just lost so many times. And I experienced this with Auburn myself, because they do it a lot where they've lost so many times. The moment they get in those big moments. And so they've had that happen over and over and over. And then when you're finally there, when the other team scores, your heart just drops.
Chris
Yeah.
Kelly
A sound can't even come out of you.
Dan
It's true.
Kelly
It's just like.
Chris
But what's crazy is I at least. I kind of expected at least that groan that you just did. I kind of wanted a. Or something. Not even a boo. Just the collective groan. It was literally dead silent.
Dan
It was truly just sword.
Chris
And it just. Everybody went nothing.
Zach
It's like a library.
Dan
It was genuinely alive.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
It was crazy.
Zach
With, like, a shoes.
Chris
We saw it, and we were like, did they just.
Dan
That just go in at that point? It was nine. Three shots. Canes.
Chris
Yep.
Dan
And the period goes on. And we get down to about four minutes left. Three minutes left. And Vegas was pushing. They're getting chances. And they got one really close call.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
And I turned to you, and I was like, you cannot go into the second period tied to. After this period. You are all over this Vegas team. You cannot let them go. We're tied after that.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
And Carolina held on, which is great. But then, like I said earlier, this is what Vegas does. They come out into the second, and 30 seconds into the second goal. Yeah. Tie game.
Chris
Barbie.
Dan
Barbie.
Chris
Gotta get him a new nickname. Got to get him a new nickname.
Dan
Well, Barbie's fine.
Chris
Immediately.
Dan
But we're not saying the machine that might hold cancer sticks. No, we'll not doing that.
Chris
He doesn't like it, so we have to fix that.
Dan
But 30 seconds in. Boom. Barbie. We're walking around Lenny, because we're doing
Chris
stuff at the intermission. We're bopping around. We. I whizzing back to the seats.
Dan
No, we're going into different suites. We're getting pulled into different places. The. The Barbie goal goes. I didn't even see it go. I have to watch it on the Jumbotron because It was so quiet. It felt like nothing happened, dude.
Chris
Well, actually, I don't know if you remember this. We were in the concourse, and I hear the TV guy going like this. 18:36 to go in the second period. Two, two. And I look at you guys and I go, is it two, two? And you. Everybody goes, no. I was like, I think it might be.
Dan
I was like, has the second period. Yeah, exactly. It's insane.
Chris
I pulled up my phone, I was like, it's two. Two, dude, we gotta get in there.
Dan
And we finally get into this new suite. We step foot in it, and then Wild Bill scores.
Chris
Yeah, correct.
Dan
And now Vegas is winning.
Chris
Which was also a. You know how the other day you said marner. You go, I haven't seen a lot of Marner lately. But then you kind of check, and he makes one incredible pass. That was such a nasty pass.
Dan
It was so good.
Chris
A great shot from Bill, too. But just. That was amazing from Marner. And I was like, there he is, dude. There he is again.
Dan
It was unbelievable. And then Stall. The captain ties it up. And that in that moment, I was like, okay, we've got three unanswered Vegas goals. Now you have lost the lead. Vegas is winning early in the second, and it felt like things could potentially get out of hand here quickly. They kind of locked it down. And then Stall scores, and now we're tied. What were you feeling in this?
Chris
Okay, yeah, this is great. Because that's pretty much the action for the two periods. So let's kind of backtrack and discuss this.
Dan
I do want to pause real quick and say that if people could see you two, they would think that we are launching nuclear codes.
Zach
That's kind of what it feels like at this.
Dan
When I hear you guys whispering and see the clicking and the scroll, I'm like, you two are doing matrix level algorithm work over here.
Zach
We're dealing with some equipment that's being a little finicky. So we apologize.
Chris
They are doing. Because I gotta tell you, I know you guys see the chat too. Like, the chat is like. It's. You guys are recording on a Nintendo ds. What the is this? So they are there. Oh, wait.
Dan
Is the audio brutal?
Chris
People are like, what are you using an Etch A Sketch to record? This is insane. Nobody can hear you. Like, the chat is just peppering with people pissed. So they're actually doing God's work, trying to.
Dan
So wait, the audio sucks right now. Why are we even talking?
Zach
No, it's. It's the. It's just. It's A little. If you go too hot, it gets too, too, too distorted. And if we go too quiet, people can't hear it.
Dan
Wow.
Chris
So either no one can hear us, or they go, we can't hear.
Zach
Or it's so loud. They're like, it's too loud.
Dan
Jesus.
Chris
Is too low. Or they can't hear.
Dan
Okay. No emotion, no motion. I'm going to give it to you flat.
Zach
I'm going to just try to. Try to talk within a range of 3 decibels.
Chris
I can do that.
Dan
I'm going to talk like Jim Nance this whole time.
Chris
That is actually genius.
Dan
That's perfect.
Chris
So to go back.
Dan
Yes.
Chris
And assess the first two periods, I actually made the joke to these guys that when the Canes went up two nothing, I said, you can't go up three nothing in the first. That's an automatic loss. We know this. Turns out they needed that third goal very badly. They should have gone up three nothing the first. Because this is what I wanted to bring up that we forgot to say in the first. Stank also had that clean breakaway where he almost scored. And I'm thinking at this point, if you're Vegas, you have given up a full ice two on one to Nick Ehlers and whoever.
Dan
And Martinuk, don't forget, in that first two, Slavo hit the crossbar like 30 seconds after that. And then right after that, we also had that great pass behind the net passed out to Ehlers after he'd already had two.
Chris
Oh. In the one tee.
Dan
Right in the slot. One tee. Just whistled it past the post. Carter Hart knew nothing about that. Like, he was like, oh, shit.
Chris
Then full ice Ehlers breakaway goal. Then full ice Stankeven, where if he elevated that, it was pretty quick move. Yeah, those are great. And that was a sick play to knock that down even. Oh, my gosh, Go on the breakaway. But at that point, I was like, oh, my God, dude, Vegas is like, you know. You know the way Carolina looks like they were running around with their heads cut off in the first period against Montreal. Game one. Oh, yeah, Vegas. It felt like they. It looked like beer league Dan, where all the D was just. Just go. Just get up in the rush and yeah, like, oh, shit, we got popped for another breakaway. And your goalies going, dude, I don't care that it's midnight on Thursday. The fucking floaters, you know? And it's like, I don't care. I don't. I'm not back checking. That's what Vegas looked like for the first 10 minutes.
Dan
I was like, no question about it. They were all over the place, man. Do you want to address the chatter going on in the chat at the beginning of the show who don't understand what slugfest means?
Chris
Oh, dude. I'm actually devastated that it's now a different link because that's all gone. Yeah. Yeah. So I don't know if those people are still in the chat, but that was actually baffling to me there.
Dan
Just in case anyone is in this new chat, some of the first comments in the initial link were like, slugfest. Did I watch a different game? Do you? I think they think slugfest means us. No, I think they think it means like a stalemate where you're just like boxing back and forth and no one can score.
Zach
Like. Like a violent game.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
Oh.
Zach
It really wasn't a lot.
Dan
Slugfest.
Chris
There were some big hits.
Dan
Well, slug. But again, that's not what it means. A slugfest is when there is no defense being played and people are just throwing haymakers at each other.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
There were nine goals in this game, folks. If you don't understand that slugfest is a reference to not a lot of defense. Nine goals were scored in regulation.
Chris
I don't know if this was the first person, but someone says English is my second language. Damn.
Zach
So aren't you the one on Duolingo?
Chris
Yeah, I do. 10,000 straight days. Don't know a single one.
Dan
I'm so sorry.
Chris
That is so someone else says. Are those pleated pants?
Dan
They sure are. That is so thoughtless of me. If English is your second best for sure.
Chris
Correct. Yeah, absolutely correct.
Dan
Just a bunch of gold.
Zach
So.
Chris
And then, Dan, the second period. I did want to bring this up to someone. I won't be able to scroll back enough and find this, but someone had commented. Is Hannifin hurt? Sloppy game. And I do think that one of those first two breakaways I'm pretty sure was they got behind him.
Dan
It was. It was the second.
Chris
And then there was another play where he literally. It was kind of just a two on two materializing and he fell down like pivoting.
Dan
Yeah, that was weird.
Chris
That kind of broke the playoff still. But I was like, whoa, dude.
Dan
Maybe he had maybe had busted wheels today.
Chris
And then on that third goal. And he'll tell you, I'm not beacon him. He would tell you this. He has the puck like alone on the half wall and just passes it to the middle and right to Carolina second. They're like, pass it to stall.
Dan
Goal. Yeah.
Chris
And I was like, man. And I actually give him Credit because he kind of back checked to the back door there and then Stall sniped it and he, he, you know, he did the universal stand up. Put my head back a little bit, but I was expecting a second stick across the goal post there because he was like, damn, we just came back from 2 0, went up 3, 2, and then I threw that pizza. Yeah, I thought he was going to show a little bit more. A little bit more fire there.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
I give him credit for controlling that. So I will say it was a slop. I don't think he's heard. He seems completely fine, but it was a sloppy game. I expect he's going to be way better. We saw Slavo have that dash four.
Dan
Oh, yeah.
Chris
That must have been game one, right? And then he bounced back.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
When that goal goes in after, I'm thinking if you're Vegas, you go, it's three, three. And we. Those were so self inflicted. If you're Vegas, that's the take. You go. I literally forgot Ehlers was behind us on the second one. I had a puck jump over my stick or I misplayed a puck at the blue line to glued it to a two on one and then I threw a pizza. Every goal they have, including the Ms. Stank breakaway that they should have four is my fault. So that in that moment you kind of feel good if you're Vegas because you go, we did this to ourselves. But dude, you're going how this game is 3.
Dan
3.
Chris
What is happening right now?
Dan
Oh, yeah.
Chris
That must have been a crazy. And I would give anything. We were talking. I forget who we were talking to. I think Keith, but I would give anything to have heard Tortz's and rods to conversations between periods of both. Of both intermissions in this game.
Dan
For sure, man. What's nuts is this game gets tied up here we come into the third and I feel like everyone didn't know what to feel. Are we in the driver's seat here?
Chris
I'm.
Dan
I'm referring to all the Canes fans in the barn. Are we in the driver's seat here? Are we getting to their goaltender? Are we getting goals in? What's the vibe? What's this? What's that? And you start the period and Howdy.
Chris
Yep. Okay, hold on. Before we go to the third.
Dan
Oh, yeah. Maybe hit another ad.
Chris
Yeah. Here you go. You want to do one?
Dan
Which one is it?
Chris

Dan
Oh, Bower, come on. Am I talking blades?
Chris

Dan
So fun.
Chris
You know howden does that?
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
Well actually dude, I'm gonna, I'm gonna tangent us again because it's this moment in time linearly where we were moving through our life. So this is our. I think we maybe we didn't post on the story because we failed so.
Dan
I know, I think we did put it on the story but we've got more work to do in game two.
Chris
So some and I don't know if she's in the chat but someone in our live this morning Kelly she said that she had tips to do at Lenny and I go yes, I type in the chat did tell us them. Kelly shows up to the rink, comes to Stanley cup live with a note card of tips for what to do at Lenny. Okay. And it was the ladies of the Hurricanes meet outside 1:08 after the first period for a pick. So we were supposed to do that. We were supposed to go to Sup Dog. We were supposed to meet Andrea at the 226 Bar. We were supposed to go to the Whaler's store. We were supposed to not lose our rally towel, and we were supposed to get barbecue. I'll tell you this, we did not make it to Sup Dog. We will, but we didn't make it. We failed that one. We did meet Andrea at 226 Bar. Check.
Dan
Yes. Unbelievable.
Chris
Unbelievable. And Bobby.
Dan
Yeah. Oh, Bobby.
Chris
Legend. We did not go to the Whaler store because the line was too long. Failed that one. We will try again.
Dan
I also still feel conflicted about that.
Chris
We did lose our rally towel, but got it back. So I'm putting a check mark there. True success. We did not get barbecue. Failed that one. But listen, ladies of the Hurricanes, 108. We went there after the first period, so we did our job. Kelly was there. She said, hey, they changed the schedule and the ladies of the Hurricanes are coming to 108 after the second period. So please come back. And we go like this. I will 100 come back. And Lindsay, Kelly, Tyler, Seth, they're like, come back. And I'm like, we are coming. Yes. So leaving the 200 level on the way to one away because I wonder if they're in here.
Dan
Something very special.
Chris
Oh, Kelly's here. Kelly, I am very sorry because we were genuinely trying to come back on the way there. Somebody goes like this. Hey. One of our friends goes, hey, um, it's Gary Bettman's birthday. Yeah. And he's in this week.
Dan
Gary would like to see you.
Chris
Wish him a happy birthday and wish him happy birthday. So we go, of course.
Dan
Also, I'm sorry, I always got to say it. I fucking love Gary.
Chris
He's the goat.
Dan
So, like, I. It's Gary's birthday. I'm like, listen, I. I'm going, I love Gary. I'm going to say happy birthday to Gary. Here I go.
Chris
And Gary's got a million people in the suite he's not going to take. He's going to go, hey, guys, great to see you. Thanks for saying hi. And then we'll be right down to 108 to get my pick.
Dan
Yep.
Chris
And we go in the suite. Gary's in there. We go, Gary, happy birthday. It goes incredible to see you guys.
Dan
The cake's delicious.
Chris
Cake, delicious. Have some chocolate cake. It's delicious. And I go, what a. What a world. This is amazing. And then we are. Gary turns to do his. Continue living his life. We turn to exit the suite and go to 108. And then our friend goes like this before he taps on the shoulder, goes, before you guys go, we'd like you to meet coach. Would like you to meet Coach. And I go, how is Rod up here? That's insane.
Dan
And I'm like, what? And I turn. Next thing you know, I'm gripping the hand of one Bill Belichick.
Chris
Bill Belichick in the suite, sitting there minding his own business. Unc QZ on and.
Dan
No, no. It was a vest.
Chris
Was it a vest?
Dan
He had a sick button down on the. The vest. The zip up vest over the button down. His hair looked like a million bucks. He looked like a million bucks.
Chris
He was happy. Dude, I. I rarely have I frozen like that in my whole life.
Dan
Oh, thank God for me.
Chris
Thank God for you. I was literally like, squeeze me baking powder.
Dan
I'll tell you what, folks, you hear a lot about how things in your life, like what school you went to, what job you have, what things that you're a part of, organizations, clubs, groups. Those networks are important. Well, Bill and I are in the same network, correct. And I was able to reference said network. And he lit up like the nose on a certain reindeer on one cloudy night. And we were just off to the races, all of us just yucking it up.
Chris
I have never seen Bill that animated in my life. He.
Dan
He.
Chris
It looked like we were breaking down old army navy highlights from the 1930s. That's how happy he was.
Dan
It's just, he. He's just such a delightful, delightful man. We were chatting for almost a half
Chris
an hour, dude, the whole intermission, I was like, we have to. We have a 108.
Dan
Picture the game. The game started and we. Eventually I was like, bill, enjoy the game. I don't want to pull you from the game.
Chris
We ended it. We ended the conversation with Bill Belichick. He was still. His back was to the rink, literally, just. Just chatting. And then we're like, bill, do you want to watch?
Dan
My. My cheeks were hurting because I was just laughing and smiling the entire time. And listen, I know he's. He's got. He's got the reputation. He can be a grumpy guy on the sidelines and this and that, but when you're just yucking it up with good people, he's an absolute and utter delight. He's so just smart and eloquent. And funny. He's, like, got a dry sense of humor. He's just so fun. That was incredible. It was one of the best moments
Chris
of my life save. He was snapping jokes.
Dan
Oh. He hit me with a couple jokes that I let out. You know when you kind of let out, like, a surprise laugh when you're like, oh, shit, that was so funny, dude. Oh, man, it was great.
Chris
I think we were talking, because we were talking New England summers, and we were talking something about prep or whatever, and I said something and he laughed. Not a belly laugh. He's Bill Belichick. But he kind of gave that, like, his mouth open. He put his head back, and I
Dan
was like, oh, yeah. We got him a couple times.
Chris
Come on, coach.
Dan
We got him a couple really good times. We gave him a couple Milan stories that he was really digging. But what?
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
What an experience.
Chris
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dan
He was like, yeah, dude.
Chris
It was so.
Dan
Hey, hey, let me tell you, that was just. That was as good as it gets.
Chris
Souls here, Dan. So. So we didn't get a pick, dude. We did not get a pick because I was too scared. So honestly, I legitimately was like, it's
Dan
because I'm not a. I'm not a peasant.
Chris
No.
Dan
Hey, let me take the photo. Get a pic. Ruins the entire experience for Bill.
Chris
That's kind of what I meant. I was like, bill, Bill.
Dan
Bill goes home today and he talks to his friends and he talks to people and he goes. Met a couple great guys. You know, the best part was they didn't ask me for a stupid picture and didn't make sure to get the shoes in the picture.
Chris
Yeah. That is such an unnecessary ricochet. So I'm. He's banned from the pool. So he is banned from the pool. I'll be there. He's out now. Unbelievable comment. So, Kelly, Lindsay, Tyler, Seth, I'm very sorry. I will get the lady.
Dan
Yeah, we'll see you on Thursday.
Chris
But it was coach.
Dan
It's coach.
Chris
It was coach. And then it was incredible. I came back and told the boys I was just with Bill, and Zach said, let me shake your hand so I can feel Bill's hand through your hand.
Kelly
Yeah, I did.
Dan
And, hey, could you feel it?
Kelly
Wanted to exchange hands. It was nice.
Dan
It was.
Chris
Zach was actually hyped. We came back and we were, sorry, dude. We. Sorry. We weren't gone that long. And you're like, what happened? We were like. We were with Bill Belichick. Let's go, dude. It's also great to see him there.
Dan
It's great to see him in the mixer in North Carolina sports, you know, that was fantastic. It's unbelievable. All right. Jumping back into the game. Game starts. Howden scores a minute and 21 seconds
Chris
in the third period.
Dan
And I mean, you know, Rod is having a chat with the boys that now, I mean, they come out hot in that first scoring, you know, 20 something seconds. But then you give Vegas a 32nd goal in the second and then a minute and 22nd goal in the third. You cannot have that. You cannot have that. No matter what team you are, you cannot start periods flat. And if you get scored on in under two minutes, you're starting flat.
Chris
Because we also went like this to all the Canes fans we were seeing on that walk in the intermission. Everybody was. Some people were confident, some people were nervous, but to everybody, we were going, it's fine. It's fine. Win a period, win a period, win a period, win a period. And obviously Rod is saying some version of that because he's going, 20 minutes, win 20 minutes. Yeah, you're all good. And you just come out and get popped immediately. Yeah. Is like, okay, great. Now we're chasing this entire period the whole rest of the way, which is a nightmare.
Dan
Yeah, it was brutal. And we. We went about a half a period there where. Where Vegas is just up, and it was like, all right. Everyone kind of felt like OT was very possible. It was like, the Canes are scoring again. It felt very much like the Canes are scoring again. And sure enough, bang, they did. Ghost gets on their third goal of the playoffs. Tie game. But then five minutes after that. Yeah, Bang. Beautiful goal from the. The. Behind the back. No luck. Pass from Sizzins.
Chris
Oh, oh, oh, yeah. This after Ghost. Tight. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dan
Even paying attention.
Chris
Sorry, I was looking at something on the chat. Yes. That pass was incredible.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
And I don't think so, dude. I have a larger thing to say about the goaltending just to wrap it up. Yeah.
Dan
This is what I. We can get into the semantics. Let's just get it going here. Hurdle scores. Game over. 5 4. Pulled the goal. He had a couple of great chances at the end there. One really quick, beautiful draw. I think that was Halsey on the one timer.
Chris
Oh, was it?
Dan
I couldn't figure out. I couldn't. I couldn't. I can't really. But Mitch Marner, he got a piece of that, right?
Chris
He got a piece.
Dan
Buddy, that was a full on block. Like, he has an unbelievable block. And yeah. All she wrote. 54 win for Vegas.
Chris
Yep.
Dan
So Game ends. Roller coaster of a game. Great action for all the fans, even the Canes fans, frankly. I mean, yeah, it's obviously a tough one to lose, but just great, great action and yeah, man, here we are. Here we are.
Chris
Okay. Yeah. So. So some big picture stuff for me. When Ghost scored, I almost brought this up in our, in our finals preview app. But it was a little. Honestly, it was an entire article and it was a little in weeds where I was like, I can't even get into this. I was just looking at the, the spark notes. But they did a big goalie breakdown and obviously teams are watching tape. And I remember this in the Bruins Hawk series when they were like, Crawford is a bad glove and all the bees were shooting here. And Crawford even gave an interview where he was like, I know they're shooting at the glove, like it's whatever. So there was a huge thing that was like, Carter Hart gives up. And every extreme majority of the goals he gives up are blocker. So shoot there. And I heard someone say in the broadcast that it was like, oh, they're going blocker a lot this period. Like, the Canes have made an effort to do it. And that go shot was right here. And Carter Hart there was obviously the puck pender ricochet. And that's a good chance he's on the dunk, I think by the time he lets that one go. So an NHL player can score from there. And you're never really mad at your goalie. But I will say there wasn't a ton of a screen. Hart got the full push squared up, came out on the angle and just got beat there. And I remember thinking in that moment, I was like, oh, dude. Because again we said, oh, which one of these goalies going to give up four goals? And now they both have. And Carter Heart's thinking, fuck, there's my blocker again, where I'm getting castal snipped him there too. So in that moment, I was like, jesus, dude, this, this could get crazy. Yeah, Freddie. I forget what they said in that article, but I don't think I'm trying to go through all of them in my head. Someone at the top of the chat said here, playoff ready has entered the chat. And I was like, I don't know that those were bad. Like, go through all of them. Shay goes off a ricochet. Yep, the Barbie one. Maybe he wants.
Dan
I, I, I, I can't remember it because I didn't see it live. I had to watch the replay because we were walking around.
Chris
It's a Pass like right out from the corner to Barbie. Like he gets beat, but it's not that bad.
Dan
But here's the thing. I. This is why we keep. We always say when everyone, when anyone in the chat who ever asked us what we mean when we go, game's drunk right now.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
We had nine goals all 5v5.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Zero power play goals. Zero for three for Vegas, zero for two for Carolina. I believe these are two goalies who have been good, who are both Con Smythe finalists or favorites rather. And they both had poor games. I mean, as far as save percentage, these are poor games for them throughout these playoffs. This was a drunk game. There was so many two on ones. There were breakaways, there were people falling down. It was, it was of high emotions. Game one, Stanley cup final. Everyone is horned up. All the blood's rushing to your and you can barely pay attention.
Kelly
First goal. First goal was 30 seconds in.
Dan
Yeah.
Zach
It was the first shot of the game.
Dan
It was literally the first shot of the hockey game.
Chris
The first play of the game.
Dan
Really like that is horned up drunk hockey.
Chris
That was insane.
Dan
This, you know, and it's like this, this is, this is what happens. And the thing that's interesting to me is for me, the most prevalent thing about this game is how comfortable Vegas is being uncomfortable.
Chris
We said before the game, it's been
Dan
a huge narrative going into this. They're, they're, they're totally fine with dumping the puck in and going and digging it out of greasy areas. They're totally fine going down in games. As you pointed out, they trailed more than any team in the league except Vancouver. That is ridiculous. They are really good in third periods. Really good in third periods. And you come to this game, there's six goals scored in the game. You go into a third period and you go win the third.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Win the third period. And what do they do when the third period, this team? It was just very, very happy to go get your lead. Don't care. We're going to fight back. We're going to find a way. They did it. Now the other side of that is. Other than that, that being the strongest narrative of this game for me, I don't think Carolina should be that worried about this one. I really don't. You did not want to lose. You certainly don't want to lose game one at home.
Chris
Yep.
Dan
You don't want to lose either of these games. And God forbid you go down 02, because that is spooky. Spooky situation. Population North Carolina.
Chris
Yeah. Correct.
Dan
However, after this one. You know that 5v5. You've gotten to the goalie. You know that you have star players like Nick Ehler scoring. That's great. And you can chalk this one up to the drunk factor. And you're kind of like, fucking A. We let that one slip a little bit.
Zach
Was it. Was it game one? AVs versus Minnesota? That felt like that, too.
Dan
Yeah, it was 9 6.
Zach
Yeah, it was kind of like, oh, forget it.
Dan
It's. Yeah, forget this one.
Zach
And there's precedent for the Canes. They lost to Montreal game one. No doubt they moved on.
Dan
I think you just go, forget this one. That was crazy.
Chris
I think so, too. Okay, hold on. Let me read. Let me do our last ad, and then. And then we'll continue. Okay, that train of thought. Dan, great job. Okay, here we go. Here we go. Little car gurus action. Little car gurus action. All right, listen, everybody. Car shopping shouldn't be a game of 20 questions, right? Is this the right price? Am I making the right choice?

Dan
Bang. It's a great name.
Chris
So, Dan, you said Carolina shouldn't be that faced.
Dan
I don't think they should.
Chris
I am going to disagree, but I do. I'm not saying, oh, this series is
Dan
over, blah, blah, blah, you don't respect me.
Chris
You, you don't respect.
Dan
I don't think you respect me as a man and my opinions.
Chris
Here's.
Dan
He always has something to say right off the bat. We started this episode and I was like, vegas, this is what Vegas does. And Chris goes, well, yes and no.
Chris
I mean, yeah, he didn't even let me. Yes and no.
Dan
Didn't even let me finish.
Kelly
I don't think that boils down to respect.
Dan
Just undermined me.
Kelly
I will say with y' all having a strong disagreement on how the series is going to go, I think that allures more to it.
Chris
Yes.
Kelly
Hey, he's on. He's an enemy.
Chris
Oh, true.
Dan
Yeah, exactly. He did pick Vegas and Vegas is at 1.
Chris
Also.
Dan
Zach, you are getting more Southern with every hour we are spending here.
Chris
It's hilarious.
Dan
Like, your southern accent is starting to come out. He's talking slower ever.
Zach
Also pretty late, but.
Kelly
Well, I say it's late and I've been drinking.
Zach
Now. Now you know why we have audio.
Kelly
Yeah,
Zach
dude. Yeah, it's. I also say I won't be satisfied until I get a brother titty twister fight between you.
Chris
Okay. Yeah, it's gonna get to where you guys are coming.
Dan
I have not thought about a titty twister in a long time. I honest to God think if someone gave me a titty twister right now, my heart might stop.
Chris
Like, I don't think. I. I have not felt.
Dan
I haven't felt that pain in ages.
Chris
What about a what About a body glove in the back. That.
Dan
That would actually kill me. You know how sensitive my back is?
Chris
Titty twister. You think I have get five starred in the back, dude, are you.
Dan
There are two. Two things I have. I have the softest back you've ever felt in your life. I'm going to make you feel it later, actually. Wow.
Zach
Am I gonna be asleep for this?
Dan
No, because then you can't enjoy it.
Kelly
I have to be asleep.
Dan
Locks.
Kelly
Wasn't asleep.
Chris
Yeah, correct.
Zach
Got it.
Dan
Okay. Alice loves my soft pack. Always comments about it.
Zach
Do you get it? Exfoliated. Do you get it?
Dan
No, dude, I don't know what it is.
Zach
Do you scrub it at all?
Dan
Do you? I wash my loofah. I'm very. No, I'm very flexible.
Chris
Oh. I got.
Dan
I have the hand loofah and I just use my hands.
Chris
That's crazy.
Zach
Okay.
Dan
I can get back there, but I do with this arm. I have to loop the loofah into my fingers because I have to use
Chris
the back of my hand. That's so crazy. That happens to me.
Dan
It's only my left arm. My right arm, I can get way back.
Chris
Interesting. Interesting because of said soft back.
Zach
Yeah.
Dan
My entire life I have had a very sensitive back. And I'm talking. You go to a family event, you go to your friend's house, and it's always an older gentleman who goes, oh, Danny boy, it's good to see you. And it's the pat on the back. And when I would get those, usually those are a great moment of like, hey, my friend's dad really likes me.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Or like cousin Jeff, good bloke, loves me a lot. Whenever that moment would happen to me, I'd be like, fuck, fuck. Like, it actually like hurt bad. It still does to this day.
Zach
Dan, Softback power. Sounds like you're like a military.
Chris
Yeah, yeah, it does.
Dan
It's like. It's like vaguely racist and we're not really sure.
Zach
Yeah, we're not sure how.
Dan
What a softback I had.
Zach
I had an old guy at a wedding grab my gut once.
Dan
Whoa. That is.
Chris
Did you leave?
Dan
I would have gone.
Zach
So he was being very friendly and drunk and he's like, haha, laughed. And he took a hand, maybe two, and grabbed what he could find, which I mean, like, I'm not. I'm in great shape.
Dan
I was like, you don't have a gut at all.
Zach
A little bit there. I mean, it's very, you know, at a wedding, you know, little puffy. And he got in there and grabbed it and was like, ha ha ha. And I was like, what the fuck are you. I was like, what is.
Chris
What was your relation to this man?
Zach
I just met him.
Dan
Oh, I just met him.
Chris
That guy is doing big. That.
Dan
That. That calls for challenging him to a duel on the spot or you walking home with your shoes slung over your shoulder like a walk of shame?
Zach
Yeah, it was. You don't even know what to do in that moment. Because I don't want to, like, cause a fight at my friend's wedding. But it was just like, what is.
Dan
I feel like that's a moment where you look around, like, you look at your wife and you're like, did that just happen?
Zach
Well, he also felt up her, too, so it was. Yeah, like, she was like. I think that tried to molest me.
Chris
Yeah, I think.
Dan
I don't think he tried. I think he succeeded.
Kelly
It was this Jeffrey.
Chris
He got you both.
Zach
Yeah, we were. We were on Little St. James.
Chris
It was a.
Zach
It was a great Epstein side.
Dan
Can I bring up something as we, you know, kind of come to a close here?
Chris
Well, no, no, I got a lot more. Oh, God. I never went. You went. Like I said, first of all. Turn, and you went.
Dan
You don't. First of all I said.
Chris
And then we've launched into this. Everything that's happened here was when I was about to say something about the game, and then you. You don't respect me.
Zach
All right, Chris, 30 seconds. Go.
Chris
I said, kind of amazing.
Dan
We're. We're not. We're not.
Kelly
This chat.
Dan
No. Oh, I can't look at the chat. The chat is way too far. Chat is award winning.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Award winning chat. Yep. Like, they are so funny.
Zach
Yeah. You guys are getting a webby this year.
Dan
I. I genuinely. I can't. I can't look at the chat because I'd get too distracted because they're so funny. It's ridiculous. What are they saying, Evan's been molested?
Chris
Yes, actually, they want to know the
Zach
name of this guy.
Kelly
Name. Softer in his back is the further he stretches at Colin Shelley. At Rickisrude. Moisturized back at Colin Shelley. Mr. Fantastic washes his back with stretchy arms.
Dan
That's true.
Kelly
This empty net is after dark.
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
Dan
We have hit after dark hours.
Kelly
We're hitting.
Zach
Okay, Chris, please.
Chris
Dan, this. I want to tell you. This was from the chat. Rick is rude. This is from a while ago. Did you guys see the Jesse Granger article about how Hurdle got out of his funk? What? He did? No, because Hurdle said this. Well, this is what I did.
Dan
Did Rick is rude tell us.
Chris
Yes. Oh, he started ripping Pokemon packs.
Dan
Oh, I do know that they've been doing rips.
Chris
He started ripping.
Dan
I was talking to Bex about that today.
Chris
That's incredible.
Dan
Rick, in the chat, we're. We are big on Pokemon in LA with the King's boys like. We are. We are. We're big on ripping.
Chris
We rip some. We rip some upper deck hockey cards.
Dan
I know, but I need actually, you
Chris
know what a mascot.
Dan
You know what? Thursday there's any canes fans in the chat Thursday, if someone comes to the game and finds me and gives me a Pokemon pack, we'll rip it live. I'll. Well, I'll rip it with you for sure. And if we get a. Oh, sorry. I thought we were on Stanley cup live for a second. I was like, I can't swear. I say if we will split the proceeds of any great card we get. But also anyone who gives me a Pokemon pack at Thursday's game, free netters merch will be sent.
Chris
Okay, dude, now we're talking. Now we're talking.
Dan
I'm so big on Pokemon. It's the best. But I don't like that there. We gotta stop getting.
Chris
Oh, Kelly has a card shop for us. That would be gas.
Dan
That would be.
Chris
That actually would. I can't. We can't derail the whole.
Dan
Cannot get into Pokemon while we're.
Chris
Yeah. Friday breaks, dude. Oh, that actually. Oh, we got a great action sticker up here. God, that's amazing.
Dan
Great action, baby. Today was great, actually. It's unbelievable. We can't get too off topic. Make land your plan that I've derailed you on. So hey, Friday breaks. Yeah, check out Friday breaks also hashtag Thursday Pokemon breaks. If someone gets.
Chris
Yes, dude, we need that handle asap. Nobody get that. Nobody get.
Dan
Nobody get Thursday Pokemon break.
Chris
Nobody get that. So here's where you had said you're not that worried about Carolina and I was going to counter. I said to a bunch of people before the game, I can't remember if I said this on our morning show, but I said if after a game or two will kind of feel like one team is asserting their style. So if it's a split after two games, but Vegas is only getting 15 shots a game. Yep, I am going to go. Carolina is going to win this series because I know for a fact that if you can hold a team to 15 to 20 shots per game, eventually over the course of a seven game series, you're going to win full stop. But if it's a split after the first two games, and both games are 5, 4. Vegas is going to win the series because. Okay, that's what I said to a ton of people before the game. Just because if you're Carolina, you're going, oh, we're playing their style and not ours. And after the first period of this game, I was like, oh, Carolina is going. Vegas had three shots or maybe four, but it was like, three shots, three dudes. And I was like, oh, this series is over, dude. I don't even know. It was two ones. I was like, I don't even know what's going to happen tonight, but I'm telling you, Vegas is going to finish this game with 12 shots. It's Montreal all over again, and Carolina is going to win because you just cannot win a series shooting 12 times a game.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
And then in the second period, Vegas Outshot Carolina. 11. Did exactly that to them. Out shot them 11 to 4, took the lead. And I was like, oh, that was such a swing. And that's why I said, I would love to know what Torts was saying, because they were facing. And again, this is dramatic. It was one period of a hopefully long series, But Vegas, after that first period, was staring in the face of. You are Montreal to us.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
Do exactly what we did to them, to you. Different team, different animal. Incorrect. You will never get a shot on goal. You have lost. They were staring that in the face. Yeah. And then came out and hammered him.
Dan
Now, I think that still could be. I don't think there's any world where this is going to be a gentleman sweep of Vegas, but there's still a world where this was game one against Montreal where they were too drunk, too horny. Game gets kind of out of control. This one was obviously way closer than that. But we could come into game two and it could be an OT win. It could. It could be. Carolina is like, we needed to settle down. We got to figure it out. And they get off to the races. That could happen. Now, it could also be the exact opposite where Vegas is like, no, no. As we've said, very comfortable being uncomfortable. We handle our business in that one. We've now figured them out. We're gonna roll. It could also be a combination of both, which we hope. And we go seven games. And this just. I mean, when that game was three to three, I turned to you after having a great chat with our good friend Bill, and I said, this feels like a microcosm of what this series can and hopefully will be.
Chris
Yes.
Dan
When it was Three to three. At the end of two, it was like, this is a. This is amazing.
Chris
We did it.
Dan
Like, let's. Let's just keep this up, folks. I did want to bring up one thing. I seem to see a narrative online with Kane's fans who are very frustrated and fed up with Sebastian Ajo.
Chris
Yeah. There's a lot of chatter earlier about the first line.
Dan
Again, a lot of people talking about the first line and being like, they simply have to get going. I did think Svetch was pretty. And frankly, Aho, too, were pretty quiet today.
Chris
I just can't remember them on the puck. Like, there's not moments where I'm like,
Dan
ooh, not doing anything.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
That said, Sebastian Aho has. I believe it's four goals and three assists for seven points and plus three through 14 games.
Chris
How many points do you have in the regular season? Do you have that up? If not, I'll look it up.
Dan
Look that up for me. That is not good enough from your number one center. Now I'm seeing a lot of people going, yeah. Let me introduce you to playoff, Stanley cup playoff Sebastian Ajo.
Chris
Yeah. 80 and 79.
Dan
I mean, it's incredible. Amazing. Again, a lot of people going, yeah, this is Sebastian Aho in the playoffs. May I read you something?
Chris
Yep.
Dan
Sebastian Aho, in 103 career Stanley cup playoff games, has 92 points and he is a plus 27.
Chris
Yeah, that's actually awesome.
Dan
He also has more points than any player in Carolina Hurricane's history in the playoffs.
Chris
Because I would venture. Dan.
Dan
So I'm just saying this guy is 28 years old and he has 92 points in 103 playoff games. Is he playing as well as he needs to be playing in these playoffs? No.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
But I think maybe we need to pump the brakes on. Yeah, that's playoff Sebastian Ajo. Sebastian Ajo is damn near a point per game player in playoff history in 103 games. That's pretty. Pretty fucking good.
Chris
Yep.
Dan
So let's start backing your guy.
Chris
Rick is rude says, did I get put in Eichel jail?
Dan
There you go, Rick. Like I would say, absolutely he did. Jack Eichel is Sasha Barkov.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Like Finkel is Einhorn.
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
Dan
I think playing against Jack Eichel is going to be tough, dude. And let's also not forget he was also just playing against Nick Suzuki. I know they beat them in five, but like you, sometimes we actually see this with Barkov against the Oilers. People are like, barkov's not really scoring against the Oilers. And I'm like, doesn't matter because he's taking away way Connor and Leon. So it's like when, when, you know, like there, there are times where a player will disappear offensively, but it's because they're doing so much work on the defensive end.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
And yeah, Eichel jail might be real with Aho. That said, you've got to figure out a way to. If you're getting isolated, fine. Make sure Svetch and Jarvie are going because yeah, guys, you are not going to win this series against the Vegas Golden Knights. Like, yeah, you got past Ottawa. Yeah, you got past Philly because that, that first line did get going a little bit against Montreal. You, you ain't beating Vegas if you guys are quiet.
Chris
Especially, dude, because the way Vegas gets that goal because Carolina is what, 50 in overtime, right? Or something?
Dan
Is it 5?
Chris
I think so. Or maybe that's wrong. Chat can correct me, but it's four something.
Dan
It might be five to two games against Ottawa. Go to ot.
Chris
I think so.
Dan
Yeah. Then I think it's five.
Chris
So I think Carolina's five zero in overtime and you're sitting there after Ghost tied it. If you're Vegas and you're going, and by the way, dude, that Ghost goal, I know it was a weird face off play, but that came off the heels of someone on the canes. Took a delay, a game over the bench.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
And Vegas is going. There's 10 minutes left in the game. We're up a goal about to go on the power play. If we score here, it's over.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
And not only did they get nothing going, but also the fucking building erupted again at the end of that kill and then immediate goal. So I'm just saying you can see the impact of that building in that crowd. So you're thinking, if I'm Vegas, I'm going, dude, there's five minutes left in a tie game here where we had the lead twice. Yeah, they've come back. If this goes to overtime, they haven't lost yet. They've got the juice and this building is going to go crazy. I don't, I want nothing to do with that. So Vegas stepping up and getting that goal there is just a testament to them where they're like, dude, huge. I don't have time for this.
Dan
It's absolutely huge.
Chris
I will score right now.
Dan
It is absolutely huge. I think that this game couldn't have gone better. I'm so, so pumped for this series. I'm so pumped to see what else we get. I like that we, you know, we didn't get an Eichel goal today. We didn't get a Marner goal today. We didn't get a Jarvie Aho Svetch goal today. There's. There's more fireworks to come from the series. Again, I really don't think that there's a lot of question marks for either team. That's what I mean by if I'm Carolina, I'm not freaking out. Yeah, I think both goalies respond here. I don't think we're gonna get nine goals next game. Yeah, but I'm. I'm fired up. I'm so fired. I'm so fired up to be here. I'm so fired up with everyone we met today. So much Southern hospitality, so many awesome fans, so many awesome Vegas fans who traveled that we got to meet as well. I'm thrilled to have a day off, do some fun stuff. We'll make sure you guys are all seeing all that on. On the socials while we're ripping around Raleigh here. But we are. We're getting everything we wanted. We.
Chris
We.
Dan
We are off to the races here on an electric series. This has been a blast, dude, so let's just keep rocking.
Chris
Somebody said Marner didn't do press after that block shot. I haven't seen anything about that. Hope he's okay, though, because I didn't even see it hit him.
Dan
I don't know where. Yeah.
Chris
Or where it might have. Where it might have got him.
Dan
What doesn't that. I mean, you can just. Don't they rotate guys? Like, was he scheduled to do. Do you get pre game scheduled to do?
Chris
I think so, but I don't know, actually. But let's keep an eye on that. But otherwise, dude, yes. I mean, holy hell.
Dan
Holy hell.
Chris
Great action.
Dan
Great action, man.
Chris
Again, I'm with you. I don't expect nine, but I expect tight ones the whole way.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
And, dude, you know, it's gonna be. It's gonna be. Which goalie? Because we just. We don't have this elite. Elite goalie. I think both of them. I mean, I hope they both think they're the best goalie in the league, but I think most objective viewers would say these aren't the A plus plus.
Dan
They are certainly not. They are not. If we went into this season saying, you know, name your top five, 10, eight goalies in the league, they're not in it.
Chris
It's 4 million.
Dan
They're playing great.
Chris
Yeah. Yeah.
Dan
That's great.
Chris
So which one can kind of grab that? I think is just going to be a huge difference. And unfortunately, like we said in Stanley cup live, the loss tonight means game two takes on a ton of weight.
Dan
Oh man.
Chris
Going down, it can happen. But I mean Christ, going down.02 heading to Vegas is nightmare fuel. So it takes. It puts a ton of pressure on you. But this team has responded every step of the way. Not only this pole playoffs but also this whole year. Every time that questions have been asked about this Carolina Hurricanes team, they have stepped up. Yes, I expect a haymaker haymaker of a game. Game two. And if there is a blowout at all this whole series, I would bet it's Canes in game two because they know how much is on the line. Agree.
Dan
All right, before we sign off, I want to do a couple little shout outs. Number one, shout out the fan we met.
Chris
Oh, dude. Yes, thank you. Shout out Connor. I'm pretty sure his name was Connor. Connor is a huge. Cane's fan. He is from Michigan or he lives in Michigan and he drove 12 hours.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
Michigan today to get to the city this game and then was there alone. Dude, no. Didn't bring anybody with him. Came by himself.
Dan
Yeah.
Chris
Ripped the whole game. We saw him. I feel bad because I think we saw him when it was after the first and it was 2:1 and we were all feeling good. But. But listen, what are you telling.
Dan
Talk to the camera. What are you looking at me for?
Chris
Because I wanted to have a conversation.
Dan
I. I don't need to talk about it. I. I know what happened. It was amazing. I lived it.
Chris
Connor, we saw a barn burner. I'm sorry you got to sleep tonight in the Airbnb and then drive to 12 hours back to Michigan tomorrow. But you saw a Stanley cup finals game and it was pretty. It was pretty cool. And it was an awesome, awesome game. And I love you for that effort. That was epic. That's what being a fan is all about, buddy. I hope you had a great time.
Dan
Do you have any other things before I try to close this out that you're going to surprise me with?
Chris
Yes. A ton. No.
Zach
All right, well, my matters after dark, baby. We're gonna go all night.
Dan
Shout out Bill, my. Shut up.
Chris
Shut up bill.
Dan
My two shout outs are 1. Everyone in the chat, we know it's late. We actually.
Chris
Especially the Canes fans.
Dan
I'm three. Everyone in the chat, I mean, love you guys.
Chris
All.
Dan
All the east coast fans who are in the chat right now. I know it's late. It's unbelievable. If you are watching this, make sure to tune in to Stanley Cup Live
Chris
because it is super fun. Yeah.
Dan
I mean we are just, I, I, I can't. We always like to say, and you know, we don't want to get emo on you late night here. But we're so grateful and happy and having such a blast with all of you whenever we get to do stuff like this and come to these games, meet all of you amazing fans, take pictures with you. Just have fun. It's so great for us. It fills us up or fills our cup so much. It fills our heart so much. And we're having such a blast on Stanley Cup Live. So if you're watching from home, pop it on the NHL, YouTube. It's so much fun. All these great guests, Katie, Lily, those great people who are joining us. Just so fun.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
So make sure to do that. And then next episode of Netters. I wanted to do it tonight, but it got too late. I want to do some conspiracy theory.
Chris
Oh, yeah, you were saying that. I mean, dude, we're gonna have to wait for a west coast game then because every one of these is gonna
Dan
be and well, no, I think I'll have more juice after.
Chris
Okay.
Dan
Because we had to do a little bit of the, you know, it was the first game.
Chris
Yeah, yeah.
Dan
But I want to shout out our friend Al, who I think might be watching, who gave me this conspiracy.
Chris
Oh, dude, I didn't realize it was this.
Dan
Should I tease it?
Chris
This is fucking, this is great action.
Zach
Tease it. We want to get people for the game.
Dan
I'm going to, I'm going to tease it. So, Al, we're at dinner with our dear, dear friend Al, just a beautiful, beautiful man. And he tells us this story, which is a great conspiracy. And Netters fans know that I'm a big conspiracy.
Chris
Yes, correct.
Dan
And the conspiracy that we're going to get into next episode, which will be after game too, on Thursday night. We're going to have a Netters after doc. Talk. Talk. Talking conspiracy. Jesus Christ. I'm dying too.
Chris
Because they're the government's wiring.
Dan
Yeah, they're actually though.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
We're talking conspiracies. Going to leave you with this tease. We'll see you Thursday. We're talking the conspiracy that Jackie Kennedy actually had her husband, the President of the United States, murdered.
Chris
And we know who did it. We know who killed Ken.
Zach
Relevant news, we also have a picture you guys with Belichick.
Chris
Dude, I was about.
Zach
This is an actual photo.
Chris
I fuck you, dude. Because I was about to shit my pants because I thought somehow Someone in the. Because there were people we knew in that tweet, and I was like, oh, someone snapped.
Zach
Please get a picture. Yeah, they did get a picture.
Chris
Happy Chris got thinking. That was real, motherfucker.
Zach
This is a real picture of you guys.
Chris
I was like, holy, dude. Someone got it. And now I can show my friends. I actually have two buddies, and I cannot wait to rub the store in their fucking face.
Dan
Oh, they're gonna die.
Chris
And I can't believe I thought you actually had that pick. And then it's that pic, dude. Oh, that's so cool. That is insane.
Zach
What pisses me off is there's, like. There's a lower third on there that says Gary Bettman, Bill Belichick, and they don't mention you.
Chris
We should have been mentioned. That actually is the face I made when I saw him the first time. Like, that is dead ass. Exactly what I envisioned, what I looked like.
Zach
Yeah, see, no. No mention of you guys on there, which is disrespectful.
Chris
God, dude, that must have been electric.
Kelly
Dude did say Travis Kelsey or Taylor Swift's boyfriend.
Chris
Yeah.
Dan
Oh, man.
Chris
Hey.
Dan
This was an unbelievable day, an unbelievable start. We cannot thank you guys enough. Like, I just. I were. There are wild times we're all going through, and God damn it, it. Does it not feel good to be able to hang out with awesome hockey?
Chris
What'd you two think for a Stanley cup game?
Zach
I. I was overwhelmed with the difference of energy. It is.
Chris
Yeah.
Zach
Crazy, right, to go to that. Like, they'd go to, like, a random game in December, which is what I normally go to, to a fucking, like, game. One Stanley cup, dude.
Chris
And it's insane.
Dan
Also wild. Just, like, the little moments, like on Stanley Cup Live today, when the cup is just plopped right next to us.
Zach
People came at you like a swarm
Dan
of bees, and it's. It's like, we think about those moments, man. It's like you grow up loving hockey and wanting to win the Stanley cup, and, like, next thing you know, I'm breathing on the Stanley cup and acting like it's a normal Tuesday.
Kelly
So just like, being in the. In the.
Dan
In the presence.
Kelly
In the presence of the cup and then the. And more. So, like, we've had two days where we've gotten to be the president of the cup, but being in the presence of the cup, where there's just. You can just see, like, the children's faces and the dads and everybody, just everybody together smiling and watching those moments happen for the first time, and we just get to stand there Incredible.
Chris
Pretty cool.
Dan
It's unbelievable.
Chris
Pretty cool.
Dan
It's pretty cool.
Chris
Zach, though. Zach's going like this. Yeah, dude, try. Try going to an iron bolt one time. That's what he said. He did say that. I see the decibel thing. I see the decibel thing. Hit one.
Dan
No, no, no. Actually, that's not what he said. He. He. He said he went like this. Yeah. Tried going to an iron ball one time.
Chris
Y' all ever been to an Iron Bowl?
Kelly
I did. I was giving Christian. I was like, jesus Christ. I mean, the energy is great, but
Dan
y' all been to an Iron Bowl?
Chris
You ever hiked half to three letters? S, E, C. Boy.
Kelly
I mean, the best thing. Best thing that was also said today was Evan's walking around and seeing all the tailgate, and he's like, man, I've never really seen this for a hockey game before. And I was like, well, look where we are, y'.
Chris
All. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
Dan
Because we're in Carolina.
Kelly
Yeah.
Chris
Country God. It's Kelly.
Kelly
To answer your question, why I said y' all is. I actually am Southern.
Dan
Yes.
Chris
Yeah, he actually.
Kelly
I'm not faking it.
Dan
I'm not coming here. Kelly. That was. That. Was that a Kelly who made that comment?
Kelly
Yeah, I think she thought I was Kelly.
Dan
When I said earlier that he is getting progressively more like, it's because we have put him back in the blender like it is. This is what happens when. I mean, if Chris and I go anywhere near Canada, we just start talking Canadian because of growing up playing hockey there, and it is just. It's unavoidable, and that's what happens.
Zach
You guys get me in Pittsburgh, my yinzer is going to come out.
Dan
Oh, yeah, these guys. Dude, it's unbelievable. All right, well, hey, that's going to do it for this one, folks. Unbelievable times. And again, just overwhelmed with how fun this has been. We hope you're having fun with us, and we owe it all to every single one of you who watches and interacts with us. It's amazing. We can't wait to be back at it for game two, Stanley cup live on the NHL YouTube. And then, of course, after every game, Netter's episodes live. Let's get it going.
Chris
Nutters After Dark. We'll see you next time.
Dan
Conspiracy. Conspiracy.
Chris
Conspiracy. Jackie did it. Jackie did it.
Dan
Jackie did it.
