Welcome to the Empty Netters podcast.
B
Can you believe what this has become? There's a full 48 hours where I felt like I was like literally Superman.
A
Jumbo loves playing Fortnite. So does he. He gets on the sticks. Did TR show you the sauna cycle or was that already.
B
No, I invented that.
A
Almost a year now that I haven't
B
taken a body check. That's kind of nice.
A
So we are back. We are horned up and we are going deep. Finished tonight with some chicken fingers and a few Guinnesses. Ran into you guys. And that's where this pod came to life. Ice is ready. And we are live with another episode of the Empty Ners podcast, brought to you by BetMGM. We are here in Milan, boots on the ground. Coming to you live right now. Breaking down a lot of Olympic hockey. We're going through the rundown, the women's gold medal game. Usa, Canada. Then we're rolling right into the men's semifinal games. We had Canada, Finland, usa, Slovakia. Holy hell. Lots of action. Lots of horny vibes here in Italia. Horny for hockey, right?
B
One of the horniest days I've been a part of. And I've been a part of a lot of them, to be very honest with you. I've been a part of a lot of them.
A
A couple of horny, horny days. Let's get it cracking. Stick with the gold medal.
B
Who's this podcast brought to you by?
A
Did you say that?
B
I said, okay, yeah. Did you say Red's here?
C
He is.
B
You say, as always, I'm here.
A
No, that's your job.
B
Well, you got to say, I'm here. No one even knows I'm here.
A
That's true. I'm your host, Dan Powers. I got Red on the sticks sticking. He is exhausted after that Canada game.
B
Yeah, he is.
C
I am physically, mentally, truly drained. Spiritually.
A
Yeah.
C
Gone.
A
I saw your soul being sucked out of your anus.
C
I almost didn't speak for an hour.
A
Yeah, he didn't.
B
I've only seen Red look like that once in his life. And then it was at. That was at Coach True.
A
And then over here, with the best homemade net hat, ping on.
B
What's her name?
A
Chris Powers. Laura.
B
Laura.
A
Shout out, Laura.
B
Shout out, Laura. As always. Holy.
A
Holy, indeed. Hey, I was. I forgot about it the other day. What is the.
B
Oh, Matt. Baldy Glazer's here.
A
Baldy Glazer. Thank God you're back. What is the movie that we've been trying to quote every episode? Draft Day, Draft Day.
B
Yeah.
A
Yeah. So we got to get a draft day quote in there at some point.
B
I want my picks back.
A
All right. There it. And folks, there it is. All right. We just came back from the official USA Hockey House, watching it with a ton of the Olympians. We wanted to do a house day today. We were at the Canada house, then the USA house, watching the boys play. But we were in the house in the building.
B
Oh.
A
For the gold medal tilt.
B
Basically we were like, we're coming all the way to Milan. We saw a ton of preliminary matchups and everything. And we were just thinking to ourselves, if we're here, we gotta see the gold medal.
A
Yeah.
B
Gotta be in the building.
A
Saw a few of the early round elimination games, but this semifinal round, we wanted to do it with the people at the houses. We're going to the gold medal game on Sunday, obviously. And we went to the gold medal game last night. One of the great rivalries going, oh, yeah, in. In sports.
B
Oh, yeah, buddy.
A
The USA women and the USA Canadian or. Jesus Christ. The USA women and the Canadian women facing off in that gold medal game. It's the gold medal game everyone wanted.
B
Yes, it was.
A
And holy hell was that tense.
B
Well, because coming in, we said. Because there was a lot of hype here around those two women's teams. And everybody was saying, and we're talking to people who are deep in the women's game, reps and staff and all this. And everybody was like, this US women's team is next level. We posted that graphic. Seven and oh, 33 goals to two. You know, when it's all said and done, they look unbelievably dominant. Unbelievably dominant into that game. That's all everybody was talking about here. This women's team, US Team is the greatest female team ever. They are going to roll over Canada in the final just like they did in the round robin. Yeah. And it just. We kept saying, this is a nightmare for the US Team because you have everything to lose.
A
Shout out.
B
That just gets to play free.
A
Shout out. Our girl Dami, unbelievable agent at caa. She was quick to say during that game, this Canada team is nasty. And anyone who thinks this is going to be a roll fest does not watch women talk. And it was. That was on pure display in that game. And I also want to shout out the Canadian ladies.
B
Yes.
A
Because that graphic did go up that you mentioned.
B
Yes.
A
Talking about how dominant this U.S. team is. And they are. But that Beijing year Canada team was a wagon.
B
Yeah.
A
So just saying. And they've had plenty of wagons Check yourself.
B
They've had plenty of wagons.
A
Check yourself on the stats.
B
Yep.
A
But we come into this game and it was juiced to the tits.
B
It was unbelievable. And the crowd was split. It was packed.
A
And there were flags.
B
I've never seen more flags.
A
The flat Canada had the flag game.
B
Yeah.
A
The building was split. We were, we were sitting in a very family oriented section and that was very split. And we did our best. It's also like we talk about. I mean, listen, we're. We are American, we're proud Americans, but we got a lot of friends on both teams and we always like to try to snap around the love. So we were doing our best to be impartial in the stands. I mean, I'm talking literal. Parents of Canadian players are sitting behind me and parents of us players are sitting in front of me. So I was just. I was trying to be Switzerland in that game. Well, I'm a bronze medalist.
B
Yeah. I was say. And they were there. They were in the building.
A
So on the Swiss team. So we're in there and man, like you said, the fandom was split, but the Canadian flags were everywhere.
B
Yeah, they actually, at one point, there's a guy I've been talking about, the rink guy all trip. The rink guy, he's doing the wave. He's doing the fucking clap.
C
Clap.
B
He's got all kinds of gimmicks. He does that one.
A
Yeah, he's so good. He loves the wave, like you said. But also, I don't know if people aren't aware of this yet. Everyone here in Milan is aware. So hockey, not the biggest thing in Milan.
B
Yeah.
A
And when there are TV timeouts and people, the ice crew comes out and cleans the ice.
B
Insane, dude.
A
They have decided to call that a power break. And I'll tell you what, when that comes over the speakers in that arena every fucking time, it sounds like power play. And keep in mind, it always happens at a stoppage of play and all the gates open. So 80% of the arena every time goes, who, what was the power. Which team? So it's great.
B
And it sounds like it's from a Nintendo game.
C
I was just about to say that. It's like Pokemon or something.
A
It is. It's like an old school N64 game, power break.
B
I'm like, holy.
A
Everyone goes for which team.
B
Yeah. So we got all kinds of chaos and. But this time, for the first time at a game I've been to, that rink guy goes, he goes, put the flags up during a. Yeah, that was,
A
that was nails and you, if you
B
did, if you looked around the building. Yeah, just flags waving everywhere. I was like, oh, my God, dude, this is all time everywhere.
A
It was amazing. And you go into that game, okay, and what's that? I think it's a Mike Tyson quote.
B
Everybody's got a plan.
A
Everyone's got a plan until you get punched in the mouth. Those Canadian gals had that mentality because, yes, round robin, they lost five nothing to this US Team. This US Team was just shellacking everyone. I went in to the semis, US Sweden. And I was like, this is the, the game of the tournament. It just turned out to be murder.
B
Yep.
A
And by the way, the Swedish gals, I Tough, tough, tough, tough times. But that is what happened. This. The. The veteran leadership and the. Just the, the. The talent and the poise on that Canada team, they came out and they frustrated the out of usa.
B
Dude, we.
A
We had talked about little nervy, little
B
nervous nervy because, dude, we. Tom Brady in the building, by the way, couldn't find him. I was trying to get up there. I had some.
A
That was a lot for us.
B
I had some Panthers friends, boys up there in a suite. And I was like, yo, get me up to that suite. And he was like, he talked to the guy and the guy said, get fucked, your friends can't come up here. And I was like, oh, shit. And then I was like, where's Brady? And he was like, he's actually two sweets over there. Fucking Secret Service. Consequences. Consequences. Yeah. So it was dialed in.
A
There is no room for error.
B
Correct. So it was. It was.
A
You see, Tom was with Wayne. Oh, and mess today.
B
Yeah, dude. And he, he took a pic too,
A
with somebody else that I saw with Jack and Quinn. With Jack and for some reason.
B
Can Tom take a pick with me 1?
A
Tom's arm in arm with Quinner. Yeah. Jack standing off to the side.
B
I'm like, jack, get in there. Jack. Jack, slide in, dude, tuck in. So anyway, Tom has said many times, haven't played in 10 Super Bowls. How are you? He was like, you don't. You just can't simulate it. You don't know what you're going to feel like. You can't test the nerves. And plenty of these girls on. On the USA team have. Have been in gold medal games. So I don't mean to imply they're this, know, completely novice, inexperienced team.
A
Correct.
B
But they have some young players who are in their first one.
C
Sure.
B
But even if you've played in them already, it still affects you. That's what you really need to understand. And that's what we were kind of getting at with the fear of that girl scene going in, going, you're better. You know, you're better. They are a rabid dog because they just go, just give them your best punch in the mouth and see how they respond. And I thought the first period was super tense, but coming out of the first, I almost felt like if you just survive the first 00 as the US women, you come out in the second with a fresh sheet of ice on a peeper. You just pop a goal there and then you are off and running and you still win five nothing.
A
Yeah.
B
What you couldn't do, Dan, to start the second period is give up a two on one incredible cross seam pass, bang, forehand, backhand tuck job, shorty, down one nothing. You've been scored on once all tournament that, and you're now down one nothing in the gold medal game to Canada.
A
That was the most. Again, the game was so back and forth that second period. I, I barely, like I said, it was just a horny couple of days of hockey that, that goal was too horny.
B
Yeah.
A
Christian o' Neal comes in on the shorty, scores. Nice move and that. It was nice. And I do need to shout out quickly I, I. With the, we talk about with the Olympics all the time. You fall in love with people. You fall in love with players, players you weren't familiar with. We, I mean, I fell head over heels in love with Laura Stacy in that game. Laura Stacy, Team Canada was, she was all fucking over the ice.
B
Oh, blocking shots head first.
A
She took that one off the hand,
B
but she went head first into that
A
all over the ice and on the, on the pk had the primary assist on that o' Neill goal. And I mean, just unbelievable. But that was a, that was a, not a death blow, obviously, but that was a oh, fuck moment for usa. And then it was just chasing for the rest of it. Chasing for the rest of it. Canada did such a good job of keeping them out on the perimeter. They really just, USA could not get through the seam. You had great, I mean, there are just so many great players on this team. Taylor Heisey, our, our homie friend of the program. Hannah Bilka, friend of the program. Abby Murphy, just great, great players and no one could really get through it there. There were a few cross crease passes, good little one two setups that no one could get on the end of. And they were just doing a good job of outside frustrating them. We talked about the veteran Leadership on Canada also need to take a quick moment and shout out our homie, Aaron Ambrose.
B
Yep.
A
Best game of the tournament for Aaron. And I'm so, I mean, mind blowing. Best game of the best game of the tournament for her. She was unbelievable.
B
It's funny, I kind of have. It's, it's. I'm so, I'm so close with her and so close with Drew. And those two humans came in in such uniquely similar circumstances. I know where I'm like, oh, you were two Olympian legend, Canadian legend legends who are like, you know, probably your last Olympics and you just want to give it everything. And it's been really funny watching their journeys both. Yeah. Be like perfect.
A
It's amazing.
B
But I so with you, I said to everyone that would listen, I hope USA wins this game, but if Canada wins, I hope Aaron scores. And I just hope she plays a great game. And I'm so happy to have finished that and have got been able to go up to her and say, you were incredible.
A
You were incredible.
B
You did everything you were supposed to do.
A
And then some played so well. Drew, two monster penalties for the team, including one right there at the end. I think it was like six and a half minutes left or something. And she, Aaron, drew that penalty. And listen, could that have been a five minute major.
B
So I want to get into that. So to. To kind of get us there. I would say halfway through the second, the ice did tilt a little bit and the US Team found their game in a way I didn't think they had at all.
A
Yeah, but.
B
So they were possessing it. But everything you said is right. Perimeter, perimeter, perimeter. You go to intermission, you're down one, nothing. Now you're tweaking because you come out in the third, 20 minutes, rest of
A
your life, big time.
B
Kill yourself. You lose this game. They come out and dude, that clock just goes and goes and goes and you're trying to get one by 10 and then you don't. And now it's humming. Yeah, that play happens and they review that and there's six and a half minutes left. If that's a fiver, this game is Hova. Hova. And it was a tough hit. Aaron's obviously, legitimately.
A
Oh, man. I mean, that knee took a beating.
B
Yep. But. And obviously I'm biased, but I'm glad having seen the hit because if it was a clear five minute, I would say. But since it was borderline for me, I'm glad they let the gals decide it.
A
Yeah.
B
With a minor, minor penalty. If you can kill this off, you have a chance to play for the gold medal versus just going, you're killing a penalty for the rest of this game.
A
I'm willing to agree. I'm going to call that one borderline. And given the situation, I, I said I, I, I got to imagine that's not called the fiver because there's six and a half minutes left in the gold medal game and it's a one goal game.
B
And I'm fine with that.
A
You're like, you're already getting a paper.
B
Yep.
A
USA kills it off. Now we are in desperation mode. We're in desperation mode. And what do you know? With just over two minutes left. Who else?
B
And they pulled Aaron. I thought that was an early poll. Just because in my mind they're thinking we don't want to give up the freebie.
A
But smart.
B
Early poll.
A
Yeah, Early Yankee. They get good possession. Layla Edwards. I've been saying one of the most electric players all tournament for USA gets a great puck on net. And like I said, who else? Captain America.
B
That was awesome. I mean you just big time, big time, big time players make big time plays.
A
Miracle.
B
Shit. Yeah. That was insane.
A
Hillary Knight gets the goal, ties it up. Holy fuck. So now we go into ot. We're not going to waste precious minutes of this live talking about the fact that in the fucking gold medal game at the Olympics we're doing three on three. But it is so dumb. And I also bad for the players. I want to go further and say it is so dumb that we're doing three on three for these ladies who don't play three on three. It's just, it's, it was mayhem. And this, this is no knock. It was clear that they don't play three on three often because it's just a totally different style of game that they're now forced to be playing here in the Olympics. That said, it made the three on three so entertaining. It was just truly, it was, it was true mayhem and some there and
B
some great chances both ways because I thought the US team had the speed advantage.
A
Yeah.
B
And I thought three on three was going to be very one sided. And my God. Could that have gone either way?
A
Yeah, absolutely could have gone either way. I think it was Abby Murphy made. Oh made one of. I think I got it on film. Abby Murphy made one of the most electric back check breakups of all time. It was, it was, I think it was a two on. Oh, at the very least it was a two on one and the Canadian girls are coming down. I was like oh, fuck, you're done. You're dead.
B
Dun.
A
And Abby just came through. And it was remarkable, the play that she made.
B
Jesus. I was actually laughing because we're right behind the bench when she did that. She comes all the way back, breaks it up us, goes down the other way. And she comes to the bench, gassed obviously. And people just kind of let her on. And I'm sure she got some taps that I couldn't really see, but I was like, she would have gone to the bench. I would have been like, thank you. You know, I was like, she needs some respect on that little crowd surfing dude.
A
But you said it earlier, big time players make big time plays. The other captain of this team, Keller, comes in, defenseman.
B
Unreal, unreal stretch pass from unreal stretch
A
pass from Taylor Heisey and just find somehow finding the legs, finding the hands in OT3 on three walks. The defender gets the backhand in to squeeze through the six hole.
B
Game called game called game. Blouses. Unbelievable.
A
Rick James quote or no Prince quote?
B
Prince quote.
A
Well, it's a Charlie Murphy or it's a Dave Chappelle playing Prince.
B
Which says to Charlie Murphy.
A
Which he says to Charlie Murphy.
B
Yeah. Blouses.
A
Yes. Unbelievable.
B
God, that was awesome, man. That was a gross goal.
A
It was, it was a doodle.
B
And couple.
A
Yeah, couple of. Just hall of fame photos coming from that goal too.
B
Yep.
A
But I mean it, it's, it feels to me there's a cool. I don't want to even call it changing of the guard. But this US team is very young.
B
Yeah.
A
There's a new wave of elite, elite talent on this women's team for usa. Obviously they can play. Look at the tournament they just put out.
B
Yeah.
A
But there are a few all time vets on this team. And yeah, the two goal scorers, the two captains are a couple of done.
B
Someone says here in the comments too still wild, that after losing they gave the Canadian team a bunch of stuffed animals. And I, I will.
A
To be fair, the US team got stuffed.
B
I know, but I, I can't believe. I mean this first gold medal game I've ever been lucky enough to go to. Obviously it is a tragedy how long the Canadian team has to sit on the ice. Oh, and watch all that bullshit and then to sit there and go through and get handed some stuffed animals. Happens every Olympics.
A
You know what?
B
But I just, it's. I don't want.
A
Let me be very clear. There is, there are no comparisons going on here. But when you lose in the NCAA tournament, you at pretty much any Stage, you get given little medals too. It's like you lose in the Elite eight. They're like, here you go, Final four, here you go. And you want to rock. Skip that stupid little medal as far as the eyes can see. Like Hagrid skipping them all across the black Lake. But it is something that people are like, you're gonna want that at some point in your life. Now, obviously I'm not comparing the stuffed animal to the silver medal, but I'm pretty sure the little mascots are red. Maybe you can look this up. They're called, I think Mila.
B
I saw one.
A
I think they're called Mila and Tina for like Milan and Cortina.
B
Oh, nice.
A
And I think they're weasels. They're like, no, they're not weasels. They're. No, they're, they're a form of weasel. Somebody in the comments out, please let me fucking talk. Stop interrupting me. I'm trying to educate you.
B
You don't know shit.
A
I do. I don't know the name, but they're, they're a weasel like animal that's native to the area. And I'm pretty sure that their fur changes color with the season. So in the winter they're white and in the summer they're brownish. And I think one of them is white, one of them is brown. That's cool. And also good names for Milan names.
B
I think I saw one.
A
It might be me. Low. No, I think it's Mila and Tina.
C
It is Milo and Tina.
A
Milo and Tina.
C
And they do look like ferret like creatures.
A
Someone. Anyway, it's a, it's a stoat. A stoat. Thank you. Chat. Yep. But you're gonna want that stuffed animal.
B
You're gonna want that stoat.
A
Maybe your kids, maybe a niece, nephew or something like that.
B
Maybe you, you're.
A
You're a big stuffed animal guy. You got stuffed animals all over your bed. You're a 40 year old man and you still sleep with stuffed animals. Explain yourself. I go, you're telling me you don't want Milo and Tina?
B
I might. I'm actually going to get Milo and
A
Tina now and you're going to stick them on your bed.
B
But I didn't just lose it. A gut wrenching overtime. Someone hand wants to hand me below. And Tina right now. I go, thank you.
A
Yeah. Did you, at a point in your life think, you know, there's a lot of people who make jokes about throw pillows taking up bed space and then you have to potentially deal with a partner in your life who's going to go, I fucking hate these throw pillows. Did you at a point in your life realize I'm going to have to explain to a partner that I have a corral of stuffed animals that I sleep with? And then you happened to decide to spend your life with a person who does the same thing?
B
Yeah. That's how you, that's how you know
A
that was the moment for you.
B
That's how you know you went, this is gonna work as long as you're aligned on throw pillowness or stuffed animalness, whatever it is.
A
I, I think, I don't think there are that many. I think it's throw pillars or stuffed animals. Chris.
B
Well, you don't know, dude. There's probably some crazy shit going on.
A
They're actually.
B
And we do not kink shape, so.
A
That's true.
B
You find your thing.
A
We're a horny pod. You find your pro kink pod.
B
I cannot leave the gold women's gold medal game without saying Aaron Frankel.
A
Okay? So I wanted to get into this before we move on. Quick stick taps to. Well, obviously we're going to get into Aaron, friend of the program. Caroline fucking Harvey. Yes, Caroline Harvey. Olympic all star team, Olympic best defender, Olympic best plus minus with a plus 14. How are you? Gold medal most assists, most points. Most points by a defenseman and most valuable player. What a tourney for Caroline Harvey. Yeah. That said, we must also give the empty netters MVP of the women's tournament to Aaron Frankel.
B
That absolutely.
A
That superhuman could not be scored on and all. I mean she gave up two goals all tournament and one in this gold medal game. And the saves that Aaron made were in.
B
She made a couple off her head, dude. Many.
A
There were so many bouncing pucks. She's throwing the blocker around, the paddle of her stick around. She's literally heading balls out of the fucking crease. It was balls, pucks out of the crease. Aaron was out of this world, this whole tournament and that game. So the empty netters MVP goes to Aaron Frankel.
B
Incredible.
A
I was so pumped. Fucking crazy, crazy shit. The thing that sucks about the Olympics and about the Stanley cup and about any championship game is someone has to lose. And those Canadian women played an unbelievable tournament and a particularly unbelievable game. And it sucks that they had to lose. It sucks that players like Aaron Ambrose and Pooh have to, you know, not win a gold and potentially their last Olympics, but decorated, decorated, decorated Olympians with gold medals to their names and a legendary effort. And at the end of the day, it, it, it had to be those two teams. I'm so glad it was. Glad USA won. We are Americans, so you know, we got to back our girls. But I mean, what a game. I mean, most viewed women's hockey game, women's Olympic hockey game of all time. I think 7.7 million people watching on TV all told.
B
Well deserved, dude.
A

A
I gotta say, I stubbed my pinky toe today.
B
You did?
A
Oh, I saw it happen really hard.
B
I saw it.
A
And as for a man with flares for the dramatics, I think I played it off pretty well. I didn't make a meal of it. Right.
C
We heard about it. So.
A
But it just happened. Like I was. Like I stubbed my toe pretty hard.
C
Well, now we're hearing about it again.
A
Well, I just.
B
Everybody's here.
A
I'm saying it's late, it's. It's past midnight and I'm. I'm flexing it right now and it doesn't feel good.
B
Yeah.
A
So I'm playing hurt, playing her.
B
And you're doing a great job.
A
Thanks, man. Doing a great Job.
B
He wasn't playing Hurt.
A
Sydney Crosby.
B
Sidney Crosby too hurt to play.
A
All right, we are getting into the men's semifinal games. Canada verse says Finland did not go how we expected. And things started brutal. Sidney Crosby not playing.
B
We knew it was coming and frankly, there's a bit more optimism about him than I expected even. Maybe it's all smoke and mirrors, but I thought they were just going to say he is completely.
A
No, I agree. From what we were hearing, I was, I was happy and excited to hear people were like, Sid is out for this game. There is hope that he will be. And I'm now thinking, given that we have the gold medal game against USA in what could possibly be Sidney Crosby's last Olympics. I, I actually, I really think he's going to play.
B
I kind of do two.
A
I think he's going to play. And what's nuts is there's a part of me that feels like that short sighted.
C
Yeah.
A
And I'm like, buddy, the Pens are in the playoffs. We get. We're cup chasing. Yeah. We might be able to go out and deal for somebody.
C
That's what I was saying to you guys. Just having him on the bench, even if he plays five minutes. Like I feel like as you're 13 forward, that's better than no sit at all.
A
Right?
B
Agree.
A
Go out and trade for Bobrovsky.
B
For most people that people. I think a lot of people probably don't know that. If you've been paying attention, you figured it out. But in the NHL you dress 12 forwards and 60. So you dress the even lines.
A
Yeah.
B
And that's it. If you lose a guy, you're playing short. In the Olympics you are allowed to dress and two extra guys. You can be whatever you want. But most people go one extra forward, one extra D. So if you lose a guy, they can come or he can just not play the whole time. So Sid could just suit up and be on the bench. Which would be electric. Kind of a risk because like if you lose someone, if you really can't go and then you actually lose someone, you're like, yeah. But I don't know. Just have his pre.
A
Dude.
B
His aura just oozing down the bench.
A
Well, you love too.
C
You, you.
A
We all heard. You know you're not putting Sid in the press box. Sid was just in the.
B
The locker room.
C
Yeah. Between reports. He's in the locker room.
B
Yeah.
C
Periods.
A
And was clearly instrumental. Yeah. As he is. But this game starts and yeah man, things did not go as expected.
B
There was one other cool pregame Thing you said it on the story. But you. You legally have to have someone wearing the sea.
A
Yeah.
B
For your team when you're playing in the Olympics. So they came out Connor McDavid wearing the C for Team Canada.
A
I picture the moment where John Cooper and company went up to Connor McDavid and they went, hey, we IIHF rules dictates that we need a captain on the ice. Therefore you will be taking the sea. I imagine that situation going identical. We're also getting my cousin Vinnie quotes in every episode to the scene in Ted Lasso where Roy Kent tells Ted that a captain needs to be on the pitch. And Ted's like, well, as long as I'm the coach here, you are the captain. And Roy Kent is like, it's a rule. He's like, well, then you have to pick. And he's like, I don't want to. And he's like, I insist. I imagine Conor did that exact same thing.
B
Yeah.
A
Like, they were like, you're wearing the sea. And Connor was like, you went, no.
B
He goes, I refuse. Yeah.
A
And they're like, well, you have to. And he's like, well, no. And it's so great because obviously he gets all these questions and he's like this. I'm just keeping it warm for sin. Like, he won't even entertain the. Like, it's a great honor. He's like, this is fucking bullshit. I hate it. It is not my se. It belongs to Sid. And it's a crime that I'm doing this. I'm like, fuck, yeah, Connor. That is great.
B
And if Sid grocery sticks on Sunday, he will be wearing it.
A
Yes.
B
They will slap it back on his chest and that'll be incredible.
A
I. I'm not gonna lie. I hammered, hammered a lot of money on a Connor McDavid. Anytime goal scorer. Because I. I just felt like Captain Connor wearing the sea for Canada. It was just going to just pump him, Pump him full of, you know what.
B
Yeah.
A
To. To get on the score sheet. So. But which, by the way, he did instantly with an assist and became the all time leading goal.
B
Yep. Which we will get to. I loved, loved that in this game, they didn't go mic Mac line to start.
A
Correct.
B
Because they were like, we can go to that if we want. But I actually think it's been affecting the other lines a little bit. And then Jarvey gets up with Nate Dog.
A
Yeah, you love to see Jarvey up there.
B
That fired me up, dude.
A
And that's God, dude.
B
He can shine there. I thought he played a great game. I Thought he played a great, great game. So that was really cool. And then I also had an early note in the game. And this is so funny, considering everyone on earth that plays with Connor McDavid says something like, God, what an honor it is to play with the game. It's so fun to play with Connor McDavid. But I actually made a note watching this game early where I said, connor must love playing with Mac, because every time Connor looks up Max cutting somewhere perfectly and Connor passes it and then Mac fucking hammers it on net. And I'm like, connor must be like that. This kid is so good.
A
That's another thing. You will get into this later. He must love it for a million reasons, but also the fact that Mac is Max just spraying. He's.
B
Every time he's.
A
He's like. He's like a little puppy who's, like, learning to pee outside still, and he's just spraying all over the place and getting shots on net. And a guy like Connor, who's always looking to pass, like, he must love it. He's like, I'm just going to give it to this kid. He's going to fucking rip it.
B
It's absolutely.
C
It's.
A
It's unbelievable.
C
Shots today.
A
Yeah, let.
B
Let.
A
Let led the team. I think led all players in shots. And again, like I said, we'll get into that, but it's fantastic. But we get into this game, I think Canada all over them.
B
One sec. Everyone's saying no audio, but then they're saying they left the video and came back and now it's good. So let us know. Got to be a YouTube issue. Who knows? Okay, keep talking to us if there's no audio. But I think. I think people have figured, yeah, chat.
A
We'll rely on you. What are we. Yeah, so people. Are people saying it must be a YouTube issue.
B
Well, it was a lot of no audios. Everyone lose audio. No audio, no audio. And then people are saying, oh, I left the video and came back and it's okay.
A
Okay.
B
Everyone's saying, yeah, I left and came back and it's okay. And someone said. Or they're saying, audio's fine now. So I think. Okay, we're back. I think we keep going.
A
Okay, good. Hey, Sharp, sharp action. Sorry about that chat, but heart attack.
C
Round two today, boys.
A
Seriously, we can't take that good looks. Chat. Oh, look, we got producer Evan here in the chat now, too.
B
I think he says, audio good.
C
Yes.
A
Yep. Ev saying Evbot. Good job. All right, we're back, folks. We never left.
B
Okay.
C
We never left.
A
All right, we get into this game. For my money, Canada's on him.
B
Yeah.
A
But Finland in the first period. Finland's there. They were getting a couple of chances. Didn't get any, in my opinion. The beginning, super grade A chances, but it's going back and forth. No one looked very tense, but Canada wasn't dominating. And I don't think we ever thought they were going to. This is a very good Finland team. Very, very good team. But it's just a daunting task going up against this Canadian team. Then Finland gets a power play. And I mean hilarious. Like, they literally get a power play. They line up in the offensive zone. Cleanest face off draw you'll ever see from Sebastian Ajo. Cleanest release you will ever see from Miko Rant and just nipped it. Top corner. And towards the end of the first, just like that, Finland's up one nothing.
B
Okay, a few things there. One nothing Benner can do. Unreal shot from an unreal player.
A
Absolutely nothing.
B
No big deal. Two, Bo Horvat. Nightmare, because they go, you are on this team to not to not even just win a D zone draw on the pe, on the pk, but certainly not lose it clean.
A
And.
B
And by the way, that happens all. It's hockey, right? Like, they're good. It just sucks when you're a Bohar vat and you go, here we go. I'm going to go do my. I'm going to go do the thing that's the reason I made this team. And then they go, snapback, goal, and you go, yeah, well, if I could take that one back, that would be awesome.
A
And by the way, that was off of the. Our fucking boy Sam Bennett.
B
Okay? So this is my Sam Bennett dude.
A
That power.
B
Back on his bullshit.
A
Back on his bullshit, baby. He can't quit the game.
B
So I wrote, you can't quit the game. Wrote this down. Sam Bennett, you know how. You know how a bull sees the red?
A
Yeah.
B
Thing. Sam Bennett sees the blue. Sam Bennett is blue.
A
Sam Bennett sees blue painting and he's like, no. He goes, I gotta fuck it.
B
I gotta get in there, change the paint. I gotta get in there. Panthers. You gotta change the paint of the crease. Yeah. And I bet you could petition the league and just go, because it's not blue. It doesn't have to be blue. Yeah. I'd be like, hey, we're doing a color rush thing. The crease is now yellow.
A
The funniest part was he goes in there against his teammate Nico Mikola. And they just go careening to the hint of inner into Zaros.
B
Yes. And I got to say, watching the replay, watching it live, I thought Bennett just, well, I didn't think he ran Soros, but I was like, I thought
A
he got pushed hand up. I was like, that was a big collision. Like, I think he got pushed in there, but, like, I think Sam was leading. I mean, listen, dude, the guy gets the net. He's a fucking great player.
B
I on the replay, and I granted, I only, you know, there's a lot going on in the Canada house. In the replay, I thought that was a bad call. In the slow mo replay, I was like, oh, man. They're just kind of like, he's going hard at the net, but they're just tangled. It's like one of those pass interference plays where they get, they're like, yeah, they both fell, but it just kind of just ran into each other. There was just a lot going on that I, I didn't, I didn't love it.
A
I didn't love it.
B
But then immediate goal. And, and I said to you, red, I'm pretty sure that was the first time. Someone in the chat can check this. I'm pretty sure that's the first time Canada didn't score first in every game this tournament.
A
I believe that is true.
B
Check team. But this was like, oh, I believe.
A
I, I, I, I'm, I'm fairly certain that is true. So period ends. Canada fans feeling a little tense, but nothing crazy yet. Just went through this with the check game. We then get into the second period. Canada gets a power play.
B
And it's like, okay, here we go.
A
Canada gets a power play. I forget which penalty this was. Let me check this. I believe
B
this was just a run of the mill penalty because this wasn't marshy.
A
Yeah.
C
So it wasn't the high stick.
A
It wasn't the high stick yet. I just forget what call it was, but either way, Canada gets a peeper. And it was like, all right, here we go.
B
Yep.
A
And fucking Eric Halla. Yeah, Eric Halla gets a nice block shot, gets sprung breakaway. Great move, composure and great finish.
B
Great finish. Great finish.
A
Great finish. And we are now, I mean, the air was sucked out of this room. Out, out, out of the arena, out of hockey. Canada House, out of the nation of Canada. That it was now like a whole. We're down to nothing. And here we go. Game on.
B
I will be interested to say, because we talked about this, I'll be interested to hear what the chat thinks here. I, because I wanted Canada to win this game very badly. I was less scared down two zero because they were never down two to the team. But even down two zero, I was like, this is not good. But just score, you know, okay. Versus how scared I was late against the checks. I. I legitimately thought that they might lose that game.
A
I was genuinely never scared a second in this game. And I'm also. I do want to say, Finn's aside, our Finnish fans and listeners, this does not pertain to you.
B
Yep.
A
Any US Fan rooting against Canada. I just want to say this is the matchup we all want. And I get it. In hockey. You're like, oh, it's a rival. But it's like, this is fun. And so many of these players are probably on your favorite team. They're great boys. Send them love. It's going to be fun, this rooting for Canada, 100%. But I was genuinely like. And I felt this way with the check game too. And we will get into this right now. I was not worried because I. While I was passionately rooting for Canada for a number of reasons, I don't have the insane emotional connection that I do to other things. But I was just like, this team is too good, man. And you can see it already. That goal came early in the second period, but you could already see it. Finland just didn't have anything going.
B
Yeah.
A
And Canada had a lot going that second period.
B
I think Canada outshot Finland 14 to 3 or something.
C
And this whole time, the entire time,
A
this brings up a great question. And I think there's a lot of good answers and reasons on both sides. But for me, when you are this Finland team and you go up to nothing because of a. In instantaneous power play goal, three seconds into the power play, like, draw shot goal, then you get a not. Not a lucky finish. But whenever you score a shorty, it's pretty lucky. You get a shorthanded goal. Now you're up to nothing and you are getting outplayed like crazy. You know, several. You know, we get to the halfway mark for the second period and you're getting fist fucked. Yeah. I do not get the coaching strategy of looking at that fucking monster squad of Canada and going like this. We'll survive.
B
Yeah.
A
Pack it in. Pack it in, boys. Keep it on the outside. I just don't get the mentality of thinking you're going to survive with that strategy. And obviously, don't be reckless. Don't. Don't be crazy and fly the zone and run and gun. Because then you open up the ice and you're going to get penetrated through the middle and you're going to lose. Fucking 10, two. Yeah, but take some shots. And again, we'll keep going through this game. But Miko Ranton had a great quote at the end or after the loss, and he was like, listen, I'm, I, we're. We're upset that we lost. And I'm so proud of this team. We fought hard. But when you defend for 30 to 25 seconds a shift no one on earth can then go and try and get up in an offensive rush like we are. We are pinned in desperate. We are, we are in a washing machine spin cycle on fucking high, high heat, high speed. And you want me to then go like this? Let's go get on a rush. You just can't survive like that. And there are ways you can win games like this. When you get an unexpected two goal lead and you're like, okay, they're probably the better team, but we can survive. We can pack it in. I don't care how good your defense is. I don't care how good Soros is, this Canada team is not a team that you will live against trying to do that. And that is why for me watching, I was like, they're fine.
B
Yeah.
A
I assure you, they're fine. And the.
B
We'll get to this in a second. But the only way you're not fine in that scenario is when you run into a hot goalie.
A
Yeah.
B
And there was a chance that we were touching something hot.
C
He was playing well.
B
When I was watching Soros, he was playing great.
A
And what. He made 36 saves in this game. Soros was fantastic. And, you know, Coop had his cheeky little, you know, he quoted his. I didn't love that. Yeah, that.
B
Love Coop. But I was just like, dude, he played awesome. He played awesome in a semifinal Olympic game.
A
And he also, I think Coops. Coop's quote was like, what's that commercial? He's in no goals. And I'm like, well, he gave up three, so don't, don't be rude. Yeah, but he's trying to be like, he was unbelievable. Which he was.
B
Oh, I read it the other way. I thought he was chirping him like, oh, no. Like he gave up three goals. And I was like, chill.
A
Oh, no, no. I think he was being like, that's. It was playing like he was never gonna give up.
B
Okay, good. Because I was like, bro, so you did love it. Yeah. Then I do love it. Because I was like, we don't need to kick him when he's down.
A
I, I, I love, I love everything about coop. He is 100% of my love. I sometimes I said this to you too when we saw that quote. When you've won, it's sometimes easy to give like a cool guy quote like that.
B
Yeah.
A
And part of me is like, don't give him a cool guy quote, man. Let him mourn. But Canada's just too good. They're always going to win this game. They get a power play goal. Sick tip by Sam Reinert. And I love that, that, that Sam Reinert goal. And I believe read. This was the marshy high stick, right?
B
Yes, it was.
C
Yeah.
B
Yes, it was.
A
Let's talk about that after this comment. That Sam Reinert goal.
C
Right place, right time, baby.
A
That was a. Get in front of the net, be a good hockey player and get in a good position. I don't think he knew shit about that tip. Really?
B
I thought he did that. I thought he went out to get that.
A
Well, I think he put his stick in a good position. I do not think he moved that stick based on where the shot was going.
C
I think he's trying to, like, get out of the way. Slash screen the goalie with his body.
A
I agree.
B
Interesting.
A
I think that hit, I think that hit his stick and he went, oh, that hit my stick, dude. But what's funny is the tip. Yes. The tip was, it wasn't like a. Oh, it was like kind of like just a straight down bounce. It was like a 45 degree angle change. Other side of the net. Nasty tip. And I think Sam was like, what happened there? The whole sick. That was great, dude.
B
He on the hall of shorty. This was not Sam Ryder's fault at all.
A
Yeah, it was.
B
He. The puck was kind of loose on the half wall and it was kind of trying to get to the point. They got chipped by and whatever. And I said to myself there. And it's hilarious that he then gets this gross tip goal. He has completely been this 13th forward on this Canada team.
A
Yeah.
B
Which means he's not in a line rotation. And it's so like, it makes sense to me that he's dressed because they feel he's a power play weapon, which he is. He has a couple power play goals in this tournament.
A
Yeah.
B
But it must be so insane to be in an Olympic semifinal game and just plugged on the bench and then they go, go, go now. Oh, go play. And you have to just be doing everything in like the most high pressure moments. I think about a DH in baseball, at least those dudes are in the batting cage the whole time. Like, they go down and are taking reps, staying loose. And then you go, oh, I'm turned. My turn to hit you.
A
You real quick. You. You look like a lost boy right now.
B
I feel like a lost boy right now. Sam Ryan. I feel like Sam R. I've been sitting here on the bench for hours, dude. I need to do something. So credit to him because those are not easy minutes. When they go, hey, dude, we need a. We're losing two nothing to Finland. Yeah, we need a power play goal. Have you been sitting there for 30 minutes? And he's like, huh? And they're like, go, go. Tip one. And then he does.
A
I mean, he's just. He's such a. He's such a dangerous player. Yeah, big game player, too. We see it in the Stanley. Couple of time. The guy's got a terrifying shot, too. Every time he puts a puck on net, I'm like, jesus, that came out.
B
Go watch some Stanley cup highlights. If you're curious about Sam Reinert's goal scoring ability. 50. Yeah.
A
Unbelievable.
B
So, wait, before we go to the third period, why don't you tell everybody, Dan, about our friends at Bauer.
A
Am I talking about the pro sharp advantage? Yeah. Folks, you know that we are the biggest Bauer guys in the world, and Bauer is the biggest name in hockey. For almost 100 years, they've been the most trusted and most elite name in the game. And you know it. You. Every time you go into the shop and you're looking at new gear, Bauer is the thing that stands out because it's the sexiest and it is the most elite gear that you will find. Make sure you get Bauer head to toe, whether it be workout gear, whether it be the gear you're wearing on the ice, and when it comes to the gear on the ice, what's the most important thing? Probably your wheels, your skates, and you need to take care of those. It takes forever to figure out when you're going to get your skate sharpened. If you're playing beer league like us, a couple of bums, you got to figure out when the pro shop is open, when you can get there. You might have to go early because puck drop is at 10pm you can't plan on that. It's hard to get your skate sharpened. And I know a ton of you are listening right now, and you're going, there's a chance. I haven't gotten my skate sharpened in years. Not anymore, because Bauer has delivered you the Pro sharp advantage. This thing is an at home, at office, at anywhere elite tool to sharpen your skates on the go whenever you need. And it's giving you the top of the line quality skate sharpening. Yes, you heard that correct. This thing is barely bigger than your laptop. It can go on a table, it can go on a bench, it can go in the garage, wherever you want. You put your skate in and with the press of a button, boom. Elite NHL level skate sharpening. Every single time. It's got an app, it goes with Bluetooth. With your phone you can set it to your standards. However you like your wheel sharpened and it is done. Here's the biggest thing, folks. Skate sharpening isn't cheap when you think of if you like to get your skate sharpened. And again, if you're a high school player, you're a college player, you're playing more often than not. You're getting your skate sharpened a lot. That adds up. You use this thing 10, 15 times, it has already paid for itself. You're going to get your teammates wanting you to do this. Maybe you can charge them. Yeah, charge them five bucks. Usually cost 20 bucks to get your skate sharp and charge them five. They're saving money. You're making money. The Bauer prosharp advantage is the biggest no brainer purchase I have ever made in my entire life. I use it all the time. Our teammates ask us to sharpen their skates. It's fantastic. So go to bauer.com, check this thing out as well as all of their other gear and save yourself some money, save yourself some time and get a great skate sharpening. Done and done.
B
How about that?
A
How about that? How about two?
B
One Going into the third.
A
Going into the third.
B
Butthole is pretty tight. Yeah. For Canada.
C
Clenched.
A
Clenched. Red was sweating, he was pacing. He said earlier he didn't have a drop of alcohol today and he's like, I feel drunk. Yeah, that's how, that's how taxing this was for him. We get into this period and getting pounded and I mentioned earlier, wanted to talk about that Brad Marchand, the, the high stick from Lundell.
B
That Brad March. Yes.
A
I immediately said I did not like that call.
B
Correct. You did.
A
Anton Lundell is getting held. Completely, completely held and completely tied up. No, I'm not saying hold as a penalty, but completely tied up against the boards. His body is pinned and his stick is just sticking out to the side. He has no control over it whatsoever. And it's about 3ft off the ice.
B
Yeah.
A
And Marshy comes in, crouch down Getting low to dig the puck out. And his face runs into the stick. And they call a high stick. Now Lundell stick hit him in the face.
B
Yes, it did.
A
It is. It is what it is. But the second. The content. I. I think Lindell started complaining to the ref before the call, before the arm even went up. Yeah. He was immediately like, I know I have not moved. Like, you cannot call that. And I am just saying. I think he has an argument. And I'm like, yeah, that was. That was kind of tough because that's a huge.
B
That's a massive. Yeah, that's a massive momentum swing.
A
So we'll just keep that in mind.
B
Yep. Okay.
A
We get halfway through Canada, all over. Canada's all.
B
And they went to the Knick Mac line, by the way, that happened in the second. But they. They immediately were like, okay, never mind. We got to go back to this.
A
They sure did. And like we mentioned. Or. Or we were about to mention, sorry. Shots. 39, 17 in this game. And like in the. Halfway through the third period, like you said, it was just. It was all Canada. It was truly. It felt like a matter of time. We get Shea Theodore with the puck, top of the slot. Boom. Shot goes in. Right before that, Marshy also in the mixer. Again, completely takes out sorrow. I mean. I mean, goes through the crease, gets pushed. Absolutely, but not that strongly. And completely takes Sorrows come out of the crease. Soros gets back in. In my opinion, per the rule, certainly does not get reset. Shot comes in and goes in. Soros instantly was like, yo, what the fuck?
B
Yep.
A
They don't even look at it. No one talks about it. Face off, tie game.
B
Two.
A
Two. Let's move on. I'm not here to say it was a bad call. I am here to say, if you are Finland, how in the world do you not challenge that?
B
I couldn't believe there was. The Hockey Canada house went so crazy. Everybody was cheering. And then they showed the replay and we were all like, oh, 100%. Because it's hard to hear, right? We were like, 100%. This is going to come back and they're going to be looking.
A
They're going to look at it.
B
Came back and it was just puck drop. And I didn't even hear if the announcers were saying anything.
A
No, that nobody.
B
And it wasn't till who said that made that quote after the game, which was a little salty. But
A
tell me anything.
B
Joel Armilla was like, they didn't. They didn't score. The only goal they scored, five on five, was Goal interference.
A
Yes.
B
So clearly the bench had something to
A
say about it, which, by the way, I also. I mean, shout out army he. That. That's a king's boy got love from. But I was like, you guys scored a power play goal on a shorty.
B
Yeah.
A
So you didn't score 5, 1, nothing. It was a 00 game, if you want to count that one out. But. But to me, again, the. The thing to talk about with that play is Finland. What are you doing? And. And this. This also goes into. At that point in the game, you're up 2, 1. There's 10 minutes. There's less than 10 minutes left. You've survived maybe a little bit longer than most of us thought. You've got to know, if you're Finland, you ain't scoring in this game.
B
You.
A
You are not scoring in regulation again in this game. So at that point, challenge that. Give it a bid.
B
Yep.
A
What are we doing? I was just shocked that they didn't challenge.
B
I guess they go, obviously the fear
C
is they don't get it, and you get a power play, and then there's another goal. Now we're losing.
B
And now you're not gonna. Since we know you're not gonna score again. At least now it's two on two. Honestly, dude, it's kind of like the Oilers Kings thing, where you're like, don't.
A
But the other version.
B
Yeah.
A
Or the other way, because the. That. That Oilers Kings 1 was obviously not going.
B
Yeah. Yeah. In my. Dude, we.
A
We saw in the USA some crazy soft goalie interference calls. Yeah.
B
Oh, my God.
A
There was one in the USA game today that. You're telling me that that might not have gotten overturned.
B
They would have overturned that.
A
I agree.
B
I think legit. I'm not saying it was Marshand goalie interference or in team over. Yeah.
A
Completely goes out of the crease and does not get reset. The only question is, did Martian get pushed? And I. I'm sitting here saying, I don't think it was that significant of a push. I think you had a shot at it.
B
Yeah.
A
But again, you're both right. It was definitely the fear of if we get this wrong and then give them power play and they score, now we're losing. We look like assholes. I get it. But I just think. I mean, you had the lead, and that was very questionable. Maybe give it a go.
B
Yep.
A
So tie game now. Same story. There's really nothing to talk about. Same story.
B
Better made some great saves again.
A
Better made some great saves again down the stretch. Also, you know I. He didn't see, let in two and only saw 17 shots. But the thing with Benner is like, you know, immediately in the second period, he gives up that second goal and he's just unfazed. He's always unfazed and that's what you need. But Finland's getting, getting rag dolled and they're now just like, just make it, make it to overtime. Let's see, see what could happen. 3v3. And then 2 1/2 minutes left. Nathan McKinnon gets a stick to the face. Let's talk about it because I, I have, I have two very significant takes here.
B
Okay, hit me.
A
Take number one. That was a high stick.
B
Yep.
A
That is a penalty. Number two, Nathan McKinnon sold the out of that.
B
Yeah.
C
And turn to the ref while playing like this. Look what just happened.
B
Yes. Yeah.
A
Both things can be true.
B
Yeah.
A
And I, and I am here to say if you're a purist and you're like, embellishment shouldn't be part of hockey. Whatever. Whatever.
B
Well, it shouldn't, but, but okay.
A
You're a purist in that regard. In my opinion, it's part of the game. It was a high stick. And I always think when you get hit in the face, you're not. I don't know if it's necessarily. I think kind of it, part of it is a natural reaction.
B
Yeah.
A
Like when you get hit in the face and you kind of like throw your head. I think it's a protection complex. Like, you're like, don't keep your face there. Just got hit.
B
Yep.
A
That's like when something goes in your eye, you're immediately like, oh, fuck. So was there some embellishment there? Maybe, But I also think it's just a reaction at the end of the day. It was a high stick.
B
It was more the look for me.
C
Yeah.
B
Just, you know, you go like this. You keep playing. He, he went like, oh my God, give us the power.
C
And it was more of a high stick than the one on Marshy.
B
Agree.
C
It's like you're on the march. You want. You're calling this one.
B
What sucks is Mikaela. If you watch the other replay, he literally. And you know the rules. Are you going to control your stick? He swings his stick completely below the knee. Certainly below the waist, but below the knee, just a sweep check. Like this. And it just hits, I think Nate's stick, which is at an angle because it's like, it's like he's holding a golf club. Right. It hits his stick and Just bounces up. Like Nicholas is going like this so low. And it goes and that and it just kind of like rode up and hit me.
A
So it's like, you know, that's a thing too, right?
C
It's like you need to be in more control of your stick.
A
Like that's the whole. It's part of the rule.
B
Yep.
A
Hundred.
B
That's how it goes. But it was just so tough. And I have to say. Well, first I want to give credit to Canada because they. That's a massive moment in the game, obviously. And they. That was a dominant power play. I know they almost didn't score, but they, they were snapping around.
A
They were all, Connor, oh my God. Just the way he moves. It's like. It's poetry.
B
Snapping it around for two minutes. Unbelievable. Felt inevitable that they were going to get one. And I said at the top, I wanted Canada to win this game very badly. So I'm glad that result happened. And I didn't want an overtime for my stress levels, for your stress levels, anything. But once Mikola took that penalty, who. I would have felt this way anyway. But as a player I really love, I was sick to my stomach. I was praying that they would survive that kill and then just lose an OT because it just for him to.
A
Don't. Don't be the guy in the box.
B
For him to have to go back to the boys with 30 seconds left and be like, sorry.
A
Yeah.
B
Because he did it right. Because. And it wasn't a malicious. I stick. It wasn't even that bad of a play. But 100. He high sticked him and he has to come back and go, you guys, we all just played the game of our lives and have Canada on the ropes. And then I accidentally high stick Nathan McKinnon with two minutes left and we've lost because of that. Yeah, that sucks so much. And I know the boys wanted that kill for him. It does so badly because I've been in those situations both in the box and out there where you're like, we got to get this kill for our guy. Yeah. And I was. I literally felt ill because. Yeah, I don't even like watching sports. Sometimes when shit like that happens, it just makes me so sad. We got, we got.
A
We got to move on. But you're. I mean, it sucks. There's nothing else to say about it. And the, the other thing that I will say on that is I, I. Like I said, I know it was a penalty. I think it fucking sucks when penalties determine games. And penalties determined that game in A big way.
B
Oh yeah.
A
And that blows the whole game. The whole game.
B
Yeah. Right.
A
Penalty penalties completely dictated and determined that whole game. And that blows. But end of the day, Canada survives. Not the, not the way that Canada, I think thought that was going to go. But I do want to. I, I would like to also mention Finland deserves so much respect. That is a very good team. Now I know a lot of people are going to say imagine if Alexander Barkov was playing in that game. We have to remember Sidney Crosby was not in that game. But at the same time Alexander Barkov
B
it like, dude, the players on that
A
camp, this Finnish team.
B
Yeah.
A
Is fucking holy hell. If Alexander Barkov were playing in this tournament, I'm kind of like there. I'm not sure I'm going to sit here and confidently say they wouldn't be in the gold medal game. So obviously power play happens. Nathan McKinnon scores with like two seconds left in the power play. Game over. Canada wins. Let's just talk about the result for Canada but quickly knock on celebrity.
B
Yep.
A
This guy.
C
He's the best player in the world.
A
He's the best player in the world. Per Chris Johnson Shadow Chris Johnson played 1802 of the final 40 minutes for team Canada while they were behind Everyone remember that. He finished with A team high 25 minutes 53 seconds of ice time. 8 shots on goal. Leading every.
B
Carter McDavid's on the team. Nathan McKinnon is on the team.
A
The we don't need. We did this last episode. We don't need to do it again. But I just, I think it is important to emphasize 19 year old Macklin Celebrini is like the most important player on this team in that game. And this is just. It feels like game after game after game and then another one. We mentioned it earlier. Connor McDavid gets an assist on the first goal. He gets an assist on the second goal. Becoming the all time leader for Canada in a single Olympics.
B
Yeah. Yeah. Set the record for single season tournament points. 13 and is only two behind Sid's 15 for Olympics ever.
C
They are the three best players in the world and they're. It's the best line. Hockey is everything.
A
It's incredible. The Mic Mac line legitimately right now is probably the three best players in the world.
B
Last thing I have on this I said earlier but Soros just cannot have a good thing to say about is incredible. You didn't think Mack was offside?
A
I didn't. I thought. Well, I thought it was inconclusive.
B
Yeah.
A
Cubic hair. It was and you actually said, Chris, you were like, I think that was the exact same time.
B
Yeah.
A
And I loved that call. Is. You know, also, that was a good job. Finland chat, like, go for it. I would have challenged anything.
B
I would have challenged anyway. But that actually, when they did that was like, oh, this is a desperation.
A
Well, did you. I. I said it in real time.
B
Oh, really?
A
Cuz Conor kind of like fumbled that puck right before they went in. And I went, oh, that might have been off. And then they were just in the zone forever. And when they challenged, I was like, that he might have been off. Anyone who's saying it was definitely off. Anyone who's saying it was definitely on? None. Neither of you are right. It's impossible to determine. It's the call in the ice stands. For me, it was too close to people.
B
Some people are really mad online. But that one, I just. And dude, trust me, I wanted it to be off so we could go to overtime and where you guys could win there. But that is just. It's one of those.
A
It's.
B
They're both on the blue line, and then you pan one millisecond and they're both in.
A
Yeah.
B
I'm like, we don't have the cameras, we don't have the frame rate to see, so we're good.
C
It's a whole other can of worms, but two. But it's like, it was a minute.
B
Yeah, Ozone.
A
It really was.
B
So true. So true.
A
They were always winning that game. Okay, before we move on to the US Slovakia game, thoughts on Canada. You're fucking doing that. I'm not doing that.
B
We got two. You want me to do. We got two?
A
Yeah, no, I'll do one.
B
Okay.
A
The.
B
I think that it's good for them. I. I said before, I Wish Canada won 8 nothing every game up until the final. So they wouldn't have played a single hard game. So I think it's good for them that they've had this experience. But actually, I'll save some of this for my finals prediction. But they haven't looked that comfortable. They played two good teams, don't get me wrong. But they just haven't looked as comfortable as I have thought. The possession numbers are all there. Of course the shots are there. But I. And I know you're like, well, dude, they are comfortable because they never are out, which is very scary. But I'm kind of shocked there wasn't like, one more gear so far.
A
Dude, they've got USA right where they're waddling.
B
Yeah. Unfortunately.
A
Honest to God, it's how I feel. I think I know that these guys are, they, you know, they're coming out of these games and they're going, Jesus Christ.
B
Yeah.
A
But I think it's great to have these sketchy games. I'm glad USA got the Sweden game. I think it's great to be up against it and feel that pressure and feel the sweat because they, they are going to go into this USA game going. We've, we've dealt with it all. We've dealt with every emotion. We've been down two, we've been down one, we've been down late, won a game without Sid. They, they, they've dealt with every bit of adversity they could expect. So I think it's great for Canada. And again, Connor said something like, he was like, I know we've got a whole country of people who are fucking sweating right now, but, but it's fun. And I'm just like, yes, you are dialed. So I'm sure you Canadian fans, this hasn't been that fun, but I think, I think it's great for the team. So that's huge. Okay, let's quickly hear from the brand and the brand partner of the Empty Nighter show. That's keeping your face nice, baby skin smooth. If you know me, I can't grow facial hair. Correct. But what I can grow, I need to shave because I need to keep this look because my facial hair look doesn't look Eric Carlson looking motherfucker. You know, I mean, that is.
B
Thank you. Well, only here still.
A
Thank you. It's like the most handsome man in
B
the world and you're in this facial hair.
A
He still pulls it off.
B
Well, I guess because he's so handsome otherwise.
A

B
Sorry I had to do mine, but we'll just.
A
Oh, we're back to back in. My bad.
B
Get yelled at. Yeah, too late.
A
We're back to back and. All right.
B

USA Slovakia Great job CP.
A
I'm sorry if you got yelled at.
B
Well, that's on now. We won't now. We won't now.
A
USA Slovakia As I said over before it started. Yeah, I, I don't want to sewer this Slovakia team. But Red is going to.
C
You don't have an NHL goalie. You have four NHL players. Half your team probably works at in finance in the other half of the season. I don't know what to tell you, brother.
B
We were so Cinderella has turned into a pumpkin. Yes.
A
We were so impressed with Slovakia's tournament, and there was this big narrative going into this game. So many people here in Milan as we were walking around, I'm talking NHL employees, NBC employees, bunch of us people were like, fuck, man. Like, this one might be tough. This team feels like a team of destiny. They're playing so well together. They clearly know each other's game well. And that is true. But what Red just said is also true. And if you were one of the top two teams in the tournament, which USA is, there is absolutely no excuse to look at that Slovakia team and be like this. We're going to get frustrated by them. Yeah. It's like, I'm sorry, dude. No, wrong.
B
You cannot. In this situation, playing the second game where you know what the stakes are, dude. If you go, we. The candidate was waiting for the gold medal matchup that we all wanted, that we all believed we deserve with the roster we put together. And then you have to come home and go, I guess we actually lost to the Slovaks in the semis.
A
Yeah.
B
So then we beat Finland for the bronze. I go, you have to be outside your fucking mind. Canada obviously did not want to lose to Finland, but if you lose to Finland, you go, yeah, it was a fucking tough one, dude.
A
Yeah, nasty.
B
We didn't have Sid, you know, this team, this US Team, lost to this Slovakia team. You can't come home.
A
Correct.
B
They did it. They took care of business.
A
They took care of business. And that. This. That's the best part. And as we get into this game, the USA was jacking off.
B
Yep, they were jacking off.
A
They were jacking off hard. And we're going to get into the jack off SEC session.
B
The first thing that you pointed out
A
was the jersey matchup was there are this. This game finished 6:2. And we could so easily just be like, it was a beat down. There's a lot to talk about.
B
Oh, yeah. The.
A
The number one thing as we keep talking about is like this. This was a classic going into this game. It's the semifinals. And I feel as though so many people in media want to be the cool guy who goes, oh, I don't know.
B
I could.
A
I could see Slovaks coming in with big punch here, and it could get And I'm like, why? Why be that guy and say, because you, you want to look like the cool dude who calls it if the one in a million chance that happens. This. I'm so happy that this USA team went, what the fuck are you talking about? We are much better than this team.
B
Good job.
A
They came in and they just put a beat down on them. And that's great. What was not great was the jersey matchup.
B
Ridiculous.
A
That was crazy. That was crazy.
C
Seeing triple.
A
And I loved that. It was unanimous. People were like, I'm getting a headache watching this game. It was difficult. It was genuinely. We had like a serious high res and what the, the contrast or whatever was like really bright where we were watching. And I was like, this is good. God almighty. I can't see who's who. But USA could see who's who and they just came out flying. First period. Dylan Larkin gets it started.
B
My boy getting better as the games get more intense.
A
Oh, yeah.
B
Dylan Larkin like this dude. Boom. Scatter plot game intensity on the Y axis. Dylan Larkin's play on the X axis.
A
Yeah.
B
Look at this.
A
Larks gets it going early. TNT gets it going right after that. Assisted by Eichel and Quinn Hughes. Just a beautiful, Beautiful power play. 1t. Did you see the curve in that stick? Have you seen that photo?
B
Which one?
A
Tage Thompson's 1T clap.
B
Yeah.
A
Yeah, Titty daddy. That went in like the teeniest little slot to get in there. The curve in his stick. I mean, good Lord almighty. And it was just, it was all bets off after that. Second period. We're jacking off.
B
Jack.
A
Jack Hughes goal. Jack Eichel goal. Jack. Jack Hughes goal. Jack off session. Second period was everyone. The United States of America was jacking off in the second.
B
Jack off. I wanted to talk about the McFoy goal interference. Did you like that call? Yeah, I think so too.
A
100.
B
He kind of clipped him, but he was going like. McAvoy was like, oh, yeah, the. And then later he had that high stick, right? And then he's going again.
A
Charles, I, I. Chucky, I love you. The, the, the. Listen, I don't get mad at these NHL players when those goalie interference gets called, because that. I don't think that's goalie interference in the NHL. Actually, maybe that was goalie interference. But what I love, dude, you know, never let a penalty go. Yeah, never let a penalty go. And I like that Chucky was giving it to him. And then Chucky's high sticking penalty when he was like, what the are you Talking. I was like.
B
He like.
A
He just. He was like, here you go, Harry Potter again. He was like. He was the troll in the dungeon swinging his club around. He smacked someone in the face. I was like, what are you talking about, Charlie?
B
To know what he was saying.
A
I know.
B
I just need to know if he was like, dude, you don't understand. Someone pushed my stick or something.
A
I'd love to find out that sometimes that it's the scene from Billions and he's going like this. That's a great call. Yeah, I just need to look pissed off. I fucking smoked him in the face.
B
Yeah, the team needs it. And then. Dude, I just wanted to touch on this because I hate this shit so much. The fucking delay of game that Warrensky takes. You actually had an amazing comment in the Finland game where I stand by the Soros played one out and it almost went over the glass. And I was like, oh, shit.
A
Goalies should not be allowed to get delay of game calls for a puck over the glass.
B
If you credible take, if you incredible
A
take as a goalie can get that puck high up and up and up and over the glass, no penalty. Yeah, they're going to be doing it all the time then, but I think it should be rewarded if you're. If you're hemmed in the zone and the goalie gets out. They got the stones to get the. Get their puck on the stick and flip it out and get a clock stop. Reward them.
B
And then this one. And I know this is so hard. It's objective. But Rensky literally poke checks a puck.
A
I. That was crazy.
B
And flips into the crowd and they're like, delay of game. And I'm like. Like, that obviously is not in the spirit of this penalty.
A
I know, like, it's.
B
Again, there's no way to be like,
A
I bet too, when the refs call those ones, they're like, sorry, that was.
B
Dude, that made me so mad. And I have a USA PK comment later. But that was one of those moments where I think it was only one nothing still. And I'm like, great, here comes the Slovakia power play goal.
A
Yeah.
B
Okay, so, yeah, like you said, Tage peeper, you know, go into the second. Amazing. And then, oh, oh, there was also Eichel in the second, had one of these. He wheels in on the backhand and takes it behind the net and then played it off the back of the net.
A
Oh, it's beautiful. And I was like, jack is south pass.
B
That's even more of a jack off session.
A
They were jacking off. The jacks were jacking.
B
Awesome. I loved that. The I stick. I said, oh, we got the bold eat againstel goal. That was waved off because he clearly kicked it in. Yes. That was funny. But the USA house feed was going crazy when that was happening. So it was like baldi goal. And like the video cut out, froze
A
as the ref was like, yeah, it's
B
like, what the fuck happened?
A
What happened?
B
That was insane. I loved that. Oh, I want to ask you this. They pulled their goalie as in yanked him.
A
Yes.
B
With went the fourth one. Fourth, fourth. And the announcers were going, you got to keep in mind because this is their stud goalie. They want him for the bronze medal game. And I was like, that's kind of a tough white flag way. Like, obviously we did roll on them. But I was like, man, that's a little early.
A
Oh, I disagree. The game was over after this, after the first Jack Jack.
B
So you're like, pull him anyway.
A
I mean, I don't necessarily, I wouldn't necessarily pull him. I mean, I don't think it was a white flag wave though. The game was over.
B
Yeah, yeah.
A
I thought the game was over after the second goal, frankly. But I agree if, if that is your guy yanking him is kind of like a, a little bit of a morale D boost.
B
He was pissed.
A
He punched the glass bare handed once.
B
He took his.
A
If you're the, if you're the goalie coach, we go, we're pulling you to save you. And then he goes like this breaks his hand.
B
You're like, dude, why did you do that?
A
We did this for a very specific reason.
B
That was so funny. I kind of forgot in that moment I was like, oh, his Olympics tournament is over. So I get it. I kind of forgot in that moment they have another game. And then he like.
A
And he broke his hand.
B
You gotta calm down, dude. Okay, I'll get to that in a second. The Jack Hughes first goal.
A
Yeah.
B
Fucking nasty. Nasty.
A
Do you little shimmy.
B
We have all.
A
That was some Quentin whose body movement.
B
We have all said Jack's been great, but show me against the good teams. Does this, which bucket does this go in? Because we all agree that was. This isn't a good team, but this is a semifinal game.
C
So it's a big moment.
A
Yeah, it's a big moment. It's a semifinal game. And he was good all game.
B
Great.
A
He was great on the. He. Jack Hughes drew the penalty that led to the Tage Thompson goal. And it was. I, I, we, we mentioned it on somewhere on our Socials. The poise he had in the D zone, held up the play, then made a great rush to get it in. Then he dug the puck out, drew the penalty like he was great all game early before the game was over. And then obviously he started jacking off and only got better. But Jack, there's nothing you can say about. And frankly, obviously, don't go in there and shit down your leg. There's nothing bad anyone can say about Jack Hughes. There's no way Jack Hughes is playing this well, looks this healthy and mentally. Is this clear right now. And is going gonna go in and be terrible in this gold medal game, even against Canada. So if you are a Jack Hughes hater, it is time to stop hating. Because he has proven everyone wrong. He's been brilliant in this tournament. He deserves all of his flowers. He deserves to be jacking off.
B
Yes, he does.
A
In public.
B
You want to.
A
In public.
B
Stop Jet. What is the fucking. This is the end scene. I love.
A
I'll jerk off wherever I want to.
B
Have any brothers or sisters?
C
No.
A
I was raised in a house of women.
B
Oh, God. Last thing in the second period. Outrageous interference hit on Jake Getz.
A
Oh, my. And then. And then that. The double or the hack across both legs of Dylan Lark? And Larks got up and he was like, that's a penalty too. That ended the second period. And I. I was like, maybe that was just a finishes hit. He passed that puck so early. He there it was a good for four full seconds before he got it. Blew him up. Good hit. Jesus Christ. Blew him up. Okay, I don't want to rush through this game, but I mean, like, you can keep going through your bullet points here. Like, game. Game ends. 6, 2. Slavkowski gets a goal. Love that. Slav played great this tournament. He deserves a little stick tap for sure. But game's over.
B
Yep.
A
Six two, win. Easy stuff. Brady Tkachuk, double breakaway. Got it on the second one, but that's it. Game over. Let's talk about what's going on here.
B
Tage Thompson does not come out to start the third period.
A
I'm absolutely terrified about that. So at the end of the second period, that penalty, the Gensel hit the Larkin hack. It was clear. The Slovakia was like, oh, my God, we're getting buried. And there are two things I don't like about this game for usa. Number one, for the love of God, Tate Thompson, do not be hurt. I don't know if this is management thing. Maybe you got like a little knock and there's like, dude, the game's over. There's no reason for you to keep playing. Just get out of here. That would be fine. But if he's hurt, I'm fucking furious. Did not like when it was getting chippy because I was like, if you get hurt in this game, like that's a disaster. So let's pray Tage is okay. The other one, you can, you can say that a beat down like this. People talk about the tune up game all the time.
B
Yeah.
A
I don't believe in that fucking bullshit at all. There was a point in this game, I think it was five nothing. The boys were just yucking it up and it felt like point night. It genuinely felt like, go out there and get your cookies. And that is not the game. In my opinion. That is not the game you want going in to play Canada easily. I mean, no offense, Sweden, but like they're. Canada's a much stronger team than Sweden. And it's just like you were about to go in and face the most intense competition of this tournament. You have not faced them before. This was not the game that you want to warm you up for that. So I didn't love it for that. I don't think that's going to get in these guys heads. But I am like, fuck me.
B
I also didn't love. And this was nobody's fault really, but if you're going to play this. And now I'm like talking about the Slovakia team because they're, they're. They've had an incredible tournament.
A
Yeah.
B
But if you're going to play this game where it's like a blowout in the semifinals, I wanted stupid. Not stupidly, just aggressively. I wanted the shutout for Heli because I want him to just be like, yeah, I'm seeing everything. No one is scoring on me again for the rest of the tournament. And the first one, he just misplayed it behind the net. So I kind of don't even care about that one, which was slaff and yeah, credit to slap because what a tournament. I was actually really happy for him that he got the goal. Yeah. But then, you know, they kind of got one behind our D again. And then they go top cheddar on Heliot. I'm just like, damn it. And again, who cares? But I just wanted him at the least to come out of this being like I'm a brick wall. And then it's like, well, I know
A
I didn't like those either. But I do think he's a brick wall. He looks very dialed.
B
Yep.
A
And I, I Think also when you're in the middle of a tune up game like that, it's easy to fall asleep.
B
Yep.
A
I'm not saying Hellbuck fell asleep, but I have no issue with those goals because I think he's just like, whatever, dude, get me out of this game.
B
Brady Breakway. You got that? Can I. Because we're live, so I don't know because there'll be no editing of this. Can I voice my gripe about the crowd we were watching the game with?
A
Yes.
B
Okay, so we.
A
Hey, keep it cute.
B
This is, this is my biggest fear about going into the final against a nation.
A
Instead of a criticism. Yeah. Let. Let this be a rallying cry. Let this be a rallying cry.
B
The Canada House, which we've been lucky enough to go to many times for games, has been packed.
A
15 out of 10, no notes.
B
And the. When we got there for this game, it was much less crowded than the past games. And I thought to myself, oh, of course, everyone's far enough into this tournament that if you're still here, you're going, you're finding a way to get to this game. But the crowd that was there at the Canada House today was rocking. I mean, you saw our stories, our grid posts. Like, I'm panning the camera, like people are going nuts. And we hadn't been able to get into the USA house this whole time we've been actually trying to go and we haven't been able to get into. And then very luckily we got to go for this game. And I was pumped to see it. And I was actually blown away how sick it was.
A
Oh, like so sick.
B
What is it? The Winter House? Yeah, the Winter House. Just unbelievable setup, different little rooms, gorgeous interior. Pics of all the greatest US achievements across every sport.
A
Yep.
B
On the walls, food spread, sick bar, like everything.
A
Starbucks.
B
Yeah, yeah, yeah, Tasha, Starbucks. But like every level, it was incredible.
A
Utterly incredible. Winterhouse. Can't wait to go back. I mean, Jesus, what a setup.
B
What a setup. And the, the figure skaters were doing an incredible presentation. Like current Olympian gold medal.
A
They were gold medals from me, Chris Yamaguchi.
B
Yamaguchi, yeah. Like legend. Huge presentation, everything's awesome. And then the game starts and there's a million screens and the huge screen. And I was like, this is going to be a vibe.
A
Yeah.
B
Right at Pup Drop. I actually was like, this is about to be the most rip viewing experience we've had. And dude, then people were just chilling.
A
They didn't care.
B
And there were some rooms where people weren't, were had their Head back. You know how you don't turn your back on the. On the. On the Emperor Maximus.
A
Never.
B
And people had their backs to the screen and I was like, this, this. This attitude is why we have a hard time competing with Canada. And I'm not criticizing. I'm imploring change for the gold medal match.
A
If they watch the game. If there is anyone who was at Winterhouse who is listening to this or. Or does listen to this, we are just here to say the. The behavior was a bit. You were behaving like toffee nosed snoots, and I don't want you to do that. It felt like there was just a significant lack of support and a lack of care. And we need all. We need all the support and care, especially from other Olympians and families of Olympians. Like, we need you desperately. So, again, this is a. This is. We're on our hands and knees begging in the pouring rain. Support the boys.
B
Dude, the.
C
The.
B
This isn't some throwaway game up in Rochester. Has been overquoted, obviously, way too many times, but I literally wanted to scream that at the winter.
A
We're in the semifinals.
B
The Olympics, dude. This isn't a fucking throwaway game. Turn around.
A
Your USA men are playing in this game. So rallying cry everyone in the States, it's like, this is, you know, get up for this game. Okay, I only have a few things left to say. If you are ready to close out, unless you have.
B
You're giving me a look like no finals predictions. That's it.
A
I don't want to do that. You can do it. All right.
B
We already. We already did it.
A
We already did our finals predictions. I don't want to do it again.
B
We've refreshed at every round. That was the whole point. Here was your predictions. They were wrong. Here's your next predictions.
C
Just hit a score. Just give me a score. Yeah.
A
Okay. Three, two.
B
Oh, you're not saying who.
A
Nope, Fred gave me an out. Soft.
B
No, he was saying give a score. That's it.
A
Yeah, he said give a score. I just said three, two, Cop.
B
That's you.
A
You gave me a directive and I gave an answer. Just saying.
B
All right, you got to give Red a score. You got to give me a team. You don't have to give me a score.
A
Just.
B
I need a team.
C
I'm giving you a team. All right.
B
No, I need a team from Dan. I don't need a score from Dan. I just need a team.
A
No, no, I'll do it. I'll do it. I'll do it.
B
Give. You want me to do it? Is that what you're looking at? I want high scoring so badly. I just don't think we can get it. Goalie's too dialed. I think it's going to overtime. And God, I would love a 32 OT, like Four Nations. But I think unfortunately it's going to be 21
A
Canada. Okay. Wow.
C
I. I'll go 31 Canada. But you read empty netter.
B
Okay. Okay.
A
Okay. I'm gonna do a combination of both yours for. For balance of the show. I actually think it's going to be 4:2 with an empty netter.
C
I actually was toggling USA.
A
That would be so sick.
B
I just want the goal so badly. I hope you guys are. I hope I'm dead wrong.
A
Yeah.
B
Because I want. It's just so fun when there'd be so fun. A lot of action. That really fires me up. One last bullet point I had about a fear of mine, actually. It'll be an interesting data point for the game when Canada gets on the power play. I mean, the Canadian, I guess they have a shorty, but the Canadian power play saved their ass tonight. Right? And when they get it, they look so lethal. USA only team in the tournament that has not given up a power play goal. Killed like five more tonight. Four or five more tonight. Unstoppable force, immovable object type shit. Because there's going to be a few penalties and I think actually if that holds, if that stat holds, I do like our chances. Like if you guys don't get a single power play goal, I'm kind of
C
like, you guys also haven't played the four best players in the world in the same shift before.
B
I'm just saying we haven't got a power play goal. So if that holds, I kind of do like our chance. That would be a huge.
A
That's what I also hope there are minimal, minimal penalties in this game.
B
Me too.
A
Give me zero.
B
That would be amazing.
A
Give me zero.
B
That would be absolutely amazing.
A
Make these guys play five on five. Okay. Little housekeeping before we wrap up. Don't leave yet. Few things. Number one, we will be at the gold medal game, of course, on Sunday. Boots on the ground, in the building, giving you all the coverage, just like we've been doing. Giving you all the vibes inside the building for USA Canada on Sunday. Make you sure.
B

A

US Standouts
Atmosphere and National Pride
"This women’s team, US team, is the greatest female team ever. They are going to roll over Canada in the final, just like they did in the round robin… this is a nightmare for the US Team because you have everything to lose." (Chris, [04:00])
"I fell head over heels in love with Laura Stacey in that game. Team Canada. She was all fucking over the ice." (Dan, [10:19])
"If that [penalty] was a fiver, this game is hova. It was a tough hit. Six and a half minutes left, could’ve ended it." (Chris, [13:26])
"In the fucking gold medal game at the Olympics we’re doing three-on-three… for these ladies who don’t even play three-on-three? It was mayhem." (Dan, [14:42])
“Game. Called game. Blouses.” (Chris, [17:01], quoting Chappelle’s Show/Prince)
“Caroline Harvey. Most points by a D, all-star, best D, plus 14, tour MVP… but Empty Netters MVP has to be Aaron Frankel—she could not be scored on!” (Dan & Chris, [21:22, 22:02])
"Canada’s always in it. But honestly, they haven’t looked as comfortable as I thought they would… but adversity is what you want going into a gold medal game." (Chris & Dan, [59:44, 59:55])
"[USA] was jacking off hard. Jack off session. Second period—Jack Hughes goal, Jack Eichel goal, Jack Hughes goal… The US was jacking off in the second." (Dan, [69:34])
“My biggest fear going into the final against a nation: at US Winter House people had their backs to the game. This attitude is why we have a hard time competing with Canada. Turn around! It's the Olympic semi-final!” (Chris, [80:55])
The Empty Netters bring locker room camaraderie, biting humor, and deep hockey know-how to their analysis. They blend irreverence (lots of “jacking off” jokes, classic movie references) and genuine admiration for Olympians of all nations. The tone shifts fluidly between light-hearted banter, raw emotion around game moments, and serious reflections on legacy, pressure, and respect for the athletes.
This episode offers a perfect snapshot of the Empty Netters Podcast’s strengths: insightful, up-close Olympic hockey analysis; access to player and family perspectives; rapid-fire, relatable humor; and real-time reactions to the sport’s biggest moments. Even if you missed these games, you’ll feel like you were in the building, living every shot, celebration, and heartbreak.
Don’t miss Sunday’s recap—hosts will be “boots on the ground, in the building” for the highly anticipated USA vs. Canada men’s gold medal game.
