Oh, what do I got? I got what's exciting me this week. Mr. Reed Blankenship has just been named a captain for the Philadelphia Eagles this season, which is awesome. Well deserved, well earned, I think. You know, I think I've seen you. You grow in that role throughout this. This whole off season, which has been fun to watch, you know, compared to last year. Last year you were leader, but I feel like you've taken another step, which is awesome, from undrafted to. To captain. Came along to captain.

No, I really, obviously, that's been like a dream come true to me. Like, with every, I guess, level of my football career, I've wanted to become a captain. Not just that because of the sea. Like, that is. That is. Whatever, like, whatever. It's just I believe the team at my teammates believe in me. You know, they voted for me to be a captain, and it's a huge accomplishment, obviously. And I'm more. I'm gonna wear it with pride as much as I can, you know, so shout out to all my dudes, man, when.

So we Voted Wednesday. And so we went out to practice, right? And we were doing the. The. The catch circuit, whatever, and, like, Sirianni came up, grabbed me. He's like, I just want to let you know, you get. You're. You're a captain. And, like, obviously, I didn't have time to, like, react, you know, like, yeah, oh, my gosh. That's a huge accomplish, like, for me. And, you know, I had to go throughout practice and not really tell anybody because I wasn't supposed to say anything, but.

But yeah, as soon as I got in the car, man, I called Elsa and then my parents.

I saw right in your face right when he pulled you over and he told you. I saw. Right. I knew that's what he told you.

I know. And I was like, congrats, bro. He didn't even tell me. But, no, I saw it right on your face right when revenue pulled you aside, so that's pretty cool. What's exciting you?

You know. You know what time it is, baby. You know what time it is? Game one, bro. Thursday night. It's going to be packed loud. All the above, bro.

So we just got finished with training camp and preseason games, so, like, we did. That is obviously a staple of football.

Now in the league, big time. Like, when. Obviously, I have my answer, but when do you start getting, like, sick of hitting each other and going against the same dudes, your teammates, every day?

Yeah, I think. I think it was good for us because we got to. We got to split it up a little bit because we had that joint practice, which was good, but, I mean, you go. You go against each other. I mean, you're going against each other. All OTAs into training camp. I mean, after. I mean, I'd say after 12 weeks, you're. You're about tired of. Of going against the same dudes. But, you know, luckily we had those two joint practices in there, which. Which helped break it up a little bit, but it was. Bro. I didn't know how humid it would get here.

So humid. And, like, for me, coming from down south, like, yeah, you can say I played in. I should be used to it. But like, no, like, the. It gets way too hot up here, man. You won't even. You don't even know it, dude. You wouldn't even realize it.

I didn't even. It was like. There was a couple days where it was like over 100 degrees. Like, heat index, I think.

But like, you wake up in the morning, it'll be cloudy. It's like, oh, it's going to be a good day. The sun's not out, so it's going to be a little bit cooler. But the good. The good Lord opens up the clouds and the sun comes out.

Even when the. Sometimes even when the sun's like barely out, though, it's like really humid.

It is humid, which is. But it's cooled off a lot. I say that it's cooled off a lot, especially at night. So we're getting to that fall weather. The old wifey's got the fall candles out, so it's right around the corner, baby.

What? Let's talk about that joint Brax that we had against the Browns. It was fun to be able to. To go up and compete against someone else, see. See some new looks.

Yeah, absolutely. I mean, you're learning on the, like, the fly, too. So, like, I don't know if people understand, like, you don't watch film for.

You're not like game planning.

Yeah. You're not game planning for these dudes. You know, like, there's like, call it periods where we call our plays against the offense during a certain team. Period. You know, so we're just going off what we see and react off what we see. So.

Which is pretty cool. I mean, you gotta. Sometimes the call is not the best call against what we see.

But you gotta. You gotta kind of work.

What position group do you think kind of stood out to you?
- [06:54]

Shoot, I don't know if I have like a position group. I feel like a couple of the young, young receivers. Obviously Darius Cooper and then Johnny Wilson.

I mean, obviously he went down now, you know, he's going to be out. But know he. They both had. Had some good that first preseason game.

Yeah. Well, I feel all of like. I feel like the. Some of the rookies especially had really good camps, you know, that we brought in like, Jihad.

That linebacker group is obviously on really good right now.

And he came in and he. I mean, dude's a free. He's a freak.

Yeah. And it shows and, like, you could. You could see the difference, like, with him from the first day camp to the. To the end of camp, how much, like, he. He learned how to practice first off, because, like, the first couple days, he was just hitting everybody.

Hitting everybody. Dude, that's. That's one of those things you just gotta. You gotta learn how to practice. Like, we don't just need to hit everybody.

Yeah, but the way he started to pick up the defense there towards the end now. And he's vocal, bro.

Real vocal, real confident on the field, which is. Which is good for. For a rookie.

Huge, man. And then, like, some of our rookies, too, in our group. Yeah, I mean, Drew coming. Yeah, Drew. First preseason game, pick six. Pick six fumble recovery. And yeah, you know, he's got a nose for the ball. I mean, Sydney had a great camp. Like, we have all these, like, younger. Younger guys that are on the come up, and it's just really cool to see, really see their growth.

Yeah, it seemed like with everybody, every single one of those guys, like, they just kept getting better as camp went on. Which is. Which is what you want to see.

Yeah, we had. We have two. So we have two full, like, tubs. Last year they were full. Me and Q kept them full.

We come in this year and we. It takes them a couple days to get the snacks. They get the snacks. They're full for one or two days. They didn't get a whole lot of.

Snacks, but it goes by fast.

And then they went down and they. We needed a refill, and it took them about a week to. To get it back. But now. Now it's. Now it's pretty stocked up.

Now it's pretty stocked up, so I think we should be good for a little bit. Y' all did it. Y' all did it right. You and Q did it right to where you. You overloaded on the front end. And then we just start, like, slowly pick away at it. And then obviously it spreads out the time to where you can go.

Ours lasted the whole season.

Damn near pretty much. No, it lasted until this year. We walked in, we had to tell everybody not to touch them because there's still full old.

I love fruit snacks and Rice Krispie bars. They're my favorite.

Like, no, we don't. We didn't. We didn't really prank them. I mean, if. If they don't keep these snacks filled up, we might have to. We might have to do a little something.

Come up with something about to get Dom into it. You know what I'm saying? Take a. Take a little advice from Chris. You remember Chris Long saying that we might do something like that? But nah, I should. If it gets to that point, we got an issue. Yeah, we haven't figure something out. We'll figure something out. Figure it out.

Obviously you were playing corner, nickels, safety, you're back there with me, blah, blah, blah. How do you, how do you as an athlete feel about that? How do you just mentally prepare for that?
- [12:48]
A
Yeah, I mean, I feel like, you know, I kind of had a idea coming into this OTAs. I played a couple different positions and then going into training camp was my first time playing safety. Being back there with you, I mean, safety and nickel, there's, there's some similarities to it, you know, but there's just so much more space that you have in front of you when you're playing safety. So that takes some, some getting used to. Obviously you have to make all the calls as a safety, which is, which is a little different. And then going back and forth like between nickel and safety at the same time is. It's a little challenging just because it's, you know, one, you're back so far and then nickel, you're right, you're right.

In the, right in the action. Yeah.

Right in the fire. So that was, that was a little challenge. I haven't played safety since I was in high school, so.

But that was like two years ago, it seems like, but I was like.

That'S like five years ago. But luckily I had my boy Reed back there to help me out when I, when I needed. When I had some questions, man, I try then playing corner, I mean, corner, there's, I mean, nickel is a little bit of both, like corner and safety. So you kind of get a mix of both. But then moving outside, you know, where, where I played all my, my college career, you know.

You feel used to it?

I feel more used, definitely. I mean, I definitely feel more used to playing outside corner than I did safety because I haven't played safety in a long time.

Well, between that nickel, though.

Oh, yeah. I feel like, I feel like it's a little more similar playing.

Yeah.

Just because you're, you're playing like more man to man, you're, you're up into the, into the fray a little bit. You know? You like that word.

Welcome back to exciting mics presented by citizens. When you were a rookie, what was your like coming in as an undrafted guy, rookie, first year, first camp? What was your approach going into camp like? Were you like going into it, like trying to prove yourself, trying to take a spot? Or was it more about learning? Learning the defense and trying to execute everything correctly?

Was both. It's a mix of both. Yeah, because I felt like I felt like I was one of the players at the very bottom of the totem pole now. That's just how I was viewing it. I'm it could be totally different from everybody else's view, but I was trying to earn a spot. I was also trying to learn the defense because is obviously completely different than what I'm really used to and from college and then just executing it because you have your like reputation saying, oh, he's a smart player, like he knows how to get people lined up, blah blah blah. So you gotta live up to that standard. Anyway, so it was tough. Like it was. It was very tough. And you go through each day not like not knowing if it was going to be your last day or not, you know?

Yeah.

And you Know how this business is. I mean, you've been in it for a year, but you see it now, it's just like you see a guy for a day, and then the next day he could be. Could be gone. And, you know, that's. That's unfortunate, and that's just a business we. We're in right now. But I'm sure, like, when you went to college, I'm sure it was like that, too. A little bit.

Yeah. I mean, college is a little different just because, you know, like, you're gonna be there, you know, for.

For however long. But I feel like half the battle is just understanding the defense and knowing what you're doing on each. On each play. I feel like that. That goes a long way and obviously you gotta. You gotta make. Make some plays and. Yeah. Be able to do your job at a high level.

Yeah. I mean, that's what it comes down to.

Yeah. And those. I feel like you find out a lot in. In the preseason games, like, when you're.

In it, and they just want to see you, like, put what you learned, obviously, into effect and play hard. Like, they don't want you to see you jogging around being lazy about everything. They want you to see full effort regardless if you make. Because mistakes are going to happen in preseason games. Mistakes will happen, but you just need to limit your mistakes. You don't need to be a repeat offender, meaning you don't need to repeat a mistake you've already made in practice over and over again and just freaking ball out as much as you can.

You know, like somebody will notice you. Like, you're not just playing for the team you're on now, especially in preseason. You're playing for 31 other teams. Like, you're putting. You're building a reputation for yourself.

Interview. Like that is your interview. You know, technically that's a good way.

To put it because everybody's got access to the game tape and they can watch everybody.

So, I mean, absolutely. People talk across the league like, you want to have a good name for yourself.

Speaking of those preseason games, obviously we didn't. The starters didn't play in the preseason this year watching those games.

How locked in are you when you're watching those. Those preseason games on. On the sideline?

I try to be as locked in as I can.

And I want to be present for the guys that are playing because I don't want to disrespect their time and I want to be there to. To be an extra. Like Player coach.

Yeah.

You know what I'm saying? I think all of our guys did great, though. But like I said, I want to try and be. I'm trying to be as locked in as possible. You know, it's tough at times, but you're not used to just sitting. Standing on the sideline the whole time. You're used to playing and used to, you know, problem solving when you come to the sideline. But I try to be as present as possible for.

Yeah, we can. And it's. It's fun to, like, have the earpiece and, like, get the calls that they're playing on the field and kind of look and. And see what's going on, see if you can pick things up. And also when. When those guys come to the sideline, be able to, you know, give them feedback with what you see and be able to coach them up and answer any questions that. That they might have. Because we got those. The tablets on the sidelines where you can, you know, watch back the. The drive and stuff.

I was going to say, after we played our first preseason game, the. Our real, like, our game type feeling was the Eagles Autism in the league.

Oh, yeah.

Dude, it was. It was so packed for. For a practice.

Yeah, but like, my first year, the whole lower deck was. The whole lower deck was. I think it was packed. And 23 lower bowl the 23 year. It was obviously even more because we just got out back after the super bowl now this year. Golly. I mean, even the upper deck.

Yeah, there was. There's a bunch of people up in the upper deck, too.

Which was crazy for a practice.

Dude, I feel like you go. You go to any other football city and they have an open practice in their stadium, it's not going to be half of what that is. Like, the amount of fans that are there, the energy.

And I've said it before, but, like, it's honestly, like, Philly fans in general are just. They're passionate and they don't care if it's a practice or what. Or seven. Don't say we were playing a flag football game. They're gonna show up.

You know, you can kind of interact with the fans, too, after. After the practice, which is. Which is pretty cool.

The training camp? I have. I did watch it. Yeah. It's kind of cool. I mean, I don't know how much they're showing and how much they're cutting out. I guess we'll find out because they.
