From the voice of the martyrs. Extreme Devotion Day 322 I meditate here on the words of Jesus that everyone who believes in him will have eternal life. John 3:16 I am among criminals. It is an understatement that men can become like animals. Animals are without sin. But the men surrounding me in jail reach depths of devilish darkness, unreachable for animals. It would be easier to live in a stable than among these criminals. Every word of theirs is filthy, every gesture repugnant. Their talk is from an open grave. Their mouths are full of cursing and bitterness. Romans, chapter 3, verses 13 and 14. But against this background shines the extraordinary love of God. For it is true that whosoever believes even men like these can have eternal life. God sent me to prison to bring them this good news. A letter from a Russian Christian prisoner, Sam.
Title: Day 322: Extreme Quote
Podcast: Extreme Devotion
Host: The Voice of The Martyrs
Date: November 18, 2025
This episode of Extreme Devotion presents a profound meditation drawn from the personal reflections of a Russian Christian prisoner named Sam. Centered on the transformative power of Christ’s love and redemption, even in the bleakest circumstances, Sam’s letter explores themes of faith, hope, and the possibility of salvation for all, no matter their past.
The tone is somber, reflective, and unwaveringly honest about the realities of suffering and human evil, yet it is also hopeful and steadfast in faith. Sam’s voice (as presented by the host) is direct, sincere, and inspirational.
In this brief but deeply impactful episode, the words of a Russian Christian prisoner named Sam challenge listeners to consider the overwhelming power of Christ’s love and redemption—even among “the least of these.” Despite finding himself surrounded by darkness, Sam chooses to focus on the unrelenting hope and purpose found in the gospel, reminding us that no person or place is beyond the reach of God’s grace.
