Colombia Rocio Pino Rocio Pino and her husband James had gone to bed for the night when they heard a knock at the door. When James opened the door, two men asked for help with their motorcycle. He went outside to help while one of the men stayed by the door, where Rocio stood watching her husband. Is your name Maria? The man asked. No, I am Rocio Pino, she replied. Suddenly, three gunshots shattered the stillness of the night. When James turned around, he saw Rocio fall to the ground. The attackers then sped away on their motorcycle. Salameh, one of the Pino's four daughters, vividly remembers she and her sisters being awakened by gunfire that night in 2011 when her father called emergency services. They refused to respond because the family lived in one of Colombia's red zones, areas controlled by militant guerrilla groups like the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia. FARC Rocio died on their front doorstep. Weeks earlier, Salameh had overheard Rocio sharing the gospel with a young guerrilla fighter and urging her to leave. The farc Salameh and her family believe Rocio was killed for witnessing to the young gorilla. The family spent the next several years in hiding. Since leaving the FARC or urging someone to leave, is considered an act of treason. But Rocio's witness strengthens Salome to persevere and forgive her mother's killers. I see that my mom left me a great gift to believe in God, salome said.

Each of us can experience a rich heritage of faith through the witness of those who have gone before us. This chain of faithfulness began with Christ's first disciples and continues through his followers today. We must each take up our part in this chain, recognizing our spiritual heritage and accepting the responsibility to inspire the faith of new generations. How can you begin to invest in someone today.
