From the voice of the Martyrs Extreme devotion Extreme resistance Indonesia Sutarsi Selang Day 349 My heart is confident in youn, O God. My heart is confident. Psalm 57, verse 7. The man grabbed the Indonesian woman and shouted in her face, say allua Akbar. Allah is great. Just say it. But young Sootharsi Selong refused to submit and so dishonor her true God. He furiously forced his gun into her mouth. Her eyes widened, but she still refused. Struggling with his gun, the man pulled the trigger. The bullet went through Sutarsi's left cheek. She staggered and then regained her balance. But the angry militant wasn't satisfied and pulled out his bayonet, slashing her face. Sutarsi Selang is one of many Christians on Indonesia's Spice Islands who were attacked by a fanatical group of Muslims called the Lascar Jihad, or Holy Warriors. Selong and fellow believers knew the fanatics, who dressed themselves in white robes and camouflage, would soon attack them. They gathered together at Nita Church, which is surrounded by a seven foot wall, and several took turns keeping watch. When the Islamic warriors came, the Christians tried to surrender peacefully. However, their white flag was cut down with a sword and within minutes violence erupted. This scene became more and more common on Indonesia's islands as fanatical Islamic factions incited violence, burned churches and killed Christians. Thankfully, many Christians in Indonesia, like Sutarsi Selong, refused to surrender. They resisted the Jihad warriors demands to embrace Islam and deny Christ. Won't we give in just a tiny bit? One little inch? What's the harm? The enemy can taunt us like the fanatical Muslims did with Sotharsi, yet she refused to surrender in the slightest. Likewise, we do not have the luxury of cafeteria style commitment, giving in here and there whenever the temptation gets unbearable. We cannot pick and choose when it is okay to give in to the enemy and when it is not. We must remain confident in God. Being confident does not mean you are less likely to give in to the enemy. It does not mean you try harder. God gives you confidence in him so that you will not give in. Period. Ask God for for a confident heart Today, the first request of persecuted Christians is that we pray for them for a new prayer request every day, as well as ebooks, audiobooks, videos and even feature films.
