This is Gary Parrish from CBS Sports here to tell you that I used to think travel pants meant sacrificing style. Like sure they're comfortable, but you'd never actually want to wear them anywhere nice. But I don't think that way anymore. And that's because of the Jetsetter pants from Jack Archer. These are hands down the easiest pants I own. They're great for my back and forth flights to NYC during the college basketball season. The fabric is wrinkle free and stain resistant, which is huge when you're commuting, traveling or just living life. I can wear them all day and they still hold their shape. No sagging, no stretching, no looking sloppy by the end of the day. And they're also the ultimate travel pant. I can pack one pair, wear them on the plane and show up looking put together without ironing or changing. And the fit is fully customizable. You choose your waist, your length and your fit, whether that's athletic, slim or straight, tall guys, short guys, everyone's covered and somehow they're just $89, which feels like a steal for pants. This first it'll get 15% off your first order with code getjack@jackarcher.com again that's promo code getjack@jackarcher dot com for 15% off your first order. Hey there, I am Gary Parish. Welcome back CBS Sports. I own college basketball podcast where we sometimes discuss camel fighting, dodo birds and leaky black. Matt Norlander is here with me. If you're watching on YouTube, only one great way to honor Brandon Davies. Smash that like button. And if you haven't yet subscribe to the Ion College Basketball Podcast. Shame on you. But you can fix that by doing it wherever you listen to podcasts like Spotify and Apple. Let's get into it. As of midnight last night, the transfer portal is closed. We will get to that eventually, but the place to start is in Gainesville, where Thomas Hou has announced that he will return to Florida for his senior season despite being projected as a possible lottery Pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. As always, money got it done. The numbers are reportedly big. There are no rules in college basketball. Florida is now number one in the top 25 and one based on the idea that the Gators are going to return six of the top seven scorers from a team that won the SEC outright by three games and secured a number one seed in the 2026 NCAA tournament. Norlander, it is good to see you on a Wednesday morning. Thomas Hou has pulled a Braylon Mullins and declined to be a first round pick so that he could return to college basketball for lots of money and another shot at a national championship slash final. For your thoughts on that development.
Matt Norlander
Yeah, how about this? We've got, you know, Mullins was one thing. I wasn't convinced Mullins would be a top 20 pick pro. Almost definitely. I think a first rounder, but could have been anywhere in that, you know, 20, 23 to 30 range overall. How? I think, I think his best case scenario was like 12 and I think his absolute floor was 20, you know, probably likely would have ended somewhere in that 15 to 18 range. And here we have a, a true rare instance. And I don't know if we've had more than a pair of these in the past seven or eight years. I'd actually have to look GP someone who was reasonably considered to be a lottery pick. Not a guarantee. I'm not, I'm not convinced Cal would have actually gone in the lottery. But nevertheless it's, it's literally the difference between were you 14 or better or 15 or worse but reasonably considered to be a lottery pick or a fringe lottery pick opting to return back to college basketball. I think Bridges did this at Michigan State. That's close to a decade ago. McDermott did it at Creighton. That's more than a decade ago. If the live chat knows in real time.
Gary Parrish
I know like off the top of my head. Marcus Smart did it at Oklahoma State
Matt Norlander
more than a decade ago. Still in the league. Last I saw, I saw that Last I still in the league and still going.
Gary Parrish
Oh, yeah, we'll get to that on the Gary Paris show in about an hour. Former Grizzly Marcus Smart. Former Grizzly Luke Canard, up 20 on a playoff series against the Rockets. We down here hoping for ping pong balls. My God. Marcus Smart did it at Oklahoma State. Blake Griffin did it at Oklahoma well
Matt Norlander
over a decade ago.
Gary Parrish
Yeah, he retired.
Matt Norlander
Was the last time we had like a viable top five pick saying, coming back to college basketball, we'll probably never see that again.
Gary Parrish
Yeah. And like we don't have to. And also like the Florida guys like Joe Kim, Noah, Al Horford, you know, that's 20 years ago. So I appreciated the quotes from Thomas. I guess I'd say similar things like unfinished business and whatever. This is a direct byproduct of money. I'm not saying other things don't matter. Like I, I don't want to go out the way we went out. I want to, you know, try to go back to all that stuff. I'm sure it factors in, but all of that stuff could be just as real as, as he says it is. And if this were five years ago, 10 years ago, he's just in the NBA draft. Because you do not leave that type of money on the table. As we've talked about for a while now, you don't have to leave this money on the table anymore. There is some real thought that Thomas Hauck will make more money playing basketball at Florida next season than he will have made playing in the NBA. And so the Mullins thing, the Gangba
Matt Norlander
thing, the probably would have been a first round pick, but definitely not like top 20 gangbas. We'll get to Duke in a few, but he's coming back. We got some good names, some familiar names, some really good players that because of a variety of factors, money being the biggest one, or coming back to college basketball, obviously a very good thing.
Gary Parrish
Yeah, that's exactly right. And so I know some people are bothered by this. I feel like I'm just constantly repeating myself because we're talking about the same things over and over again. But I love this. It enhances the tip top of the sport. The best teams are better than they otherwise would be. There was a time not too long ago where we would vote on first team All Americans, second team All Americans, third team All Americans. And then you go, okay, who's going to be back in school next year? And it's like, nobody, none of them. And now like, spoiler alert, I guess. But Florida. No, I've already told you. Florida's number one in the top 25 and one. And that is a. And they have a recognizable face. Multiple recognizable faces in the program. UConn is in the top five of the top 25 and 1. They have a recognizable face. And Braylon Mullins coming back with their recognizable coach. Like all of this stuff is good for the sport. Do you know why? And like when you're watching inside college basketball or Sports center and it's called an establishing shot, like in the shot sheet when you're watching highlights, it'll be like the establishing shot. And in college basketball, the establishing shot is almost always a coach. Do you want to know why? Because the coaches are the most recognizable people in the sport year to year. You might not know any Arkansas players, but you're going to know John Calipari. You might not know any Duke players, but you're going to know John Shire. Now we can do establishing shots with college basketball players because you know Braylon Mullins and he's back. You know Thomas Hauck and he's back. This is great for the sport. Great for Florida. Sure. Rough for the SEC, I guess, but great for the sport. The Gators should be considered right now the favorite to win the 2027 NCAA tournament.
Matt Norlander
Yeah, when we talked a couple days ago, I had mentioned a lot of noise around how it had borderline broken contain at that point. And what essentially happened was they tied up everything they needed to tie up on Monday and then how did. I think two, maybe three embargoed interviews, one of them with our buddy San Versini. We'll try and get to Sam before the end of the show, but if we can. Well, here's a line from his article. How could it's expected to be among the highest earners in college basketball next season with sources familiar with the decision projecting that he's in line to make around what he'd earned in his first two NBA seasons combined if he'd been drafted in the top 20 in this year's draft. I will do the math for you on this because the bottom line is this. Thomas Hauck is going to be at worst the fourth highest paid college basketball player ever. At worst. And it could be more than that because if you even let's just say if he was the 15th pick in this upcoming draft based on last year's rookie salary scale for year one and year two, that would have been 3.88 million in year one, 4.1 million in year two. So you're looking at essentially just shy of of 8 million and you're coming back to college. I would be downright shocked and frankly refuse to believe that Thomas Hauck is coming back for anything less than $8 million. And if you told me it was even north of that, I would believe you. Which puts him in a category of Cooper flag, AJ DeBonsa, maybe Cam Boozer and that's it. That's the list. And good on him for getting the bag. Florida is going to have the highest paid player in all of college basket ball this season. Rightfully so because he has put in the time he'll be a preseason first team All American. He was the key cog on a national championship winning team and we can take some time to think about this, but he is going to be among the three or four players in the mix to be the preseason national player of the Year. No guarantee he'll wind up being the player of the year in part because he has so much talent around him. Which is why Florida is should will be the preseason number one team. The Gators are just stocked and loaded up. The only two uncertain parts to their entire roster at this point are Denzel Aberdeen, who has boomerang transferred back with the idea that maybe he can get one more additional year of eligibility. I have been told that Florida is at least hopeful that is going to be the case which is why he announced his return still remains to be seen. If he'll get that in addition to will we get a five years and five years for eligibility a five for five between now and next season. That's another topic for another show. And then Reuben Chinliu, the defensive player of the Euro by the way he is going through the pre draft process. The expectation there is he is going to do that and then he will return to Florida. They will run it back and so you will have even though it is not back to back championship potential here now this year because they didn't win the title this year there is some 0607 vibes. Just a lot of familiar faces particularly in the front court choosing to run it back one more time. And Todd golden has himself a real deal roster here that feels like it probably will be the universal number one overall with how is the face of that beyond all others so good on him as as to it pertains to how he is going to get all of that money that 8 million plus that remains to be seen because Florida quite clearly is a is a program or is a university that puts football first and so there are certain things that will need to be cleared, I guess, at the CSC level to make it happen. Although this is going to be his last year of college, so I'm assuming some way, somehow, be it in the next six months or literally a year from now, he will get that money. So good on him. Congrats to him.
Gary Parrish
You're gonna do back pay on Thomas Elk?
Matt Norlander
Why would you not? Well, I, like, honestly, why would you not do that? Like, I'm not saying that is what they're going to do, but like, once he's done, like, I don't know, that's.
Gary Parrish
I mean, that would be.
Matt Norlander
Is that not the one workaround? Like, if you're gonna pay someone all this money, this is his last year of college. And if you're gonna hit some stop gaps there over the next X amount of months through the csc, why wouldn't you say, okay, well, then, you know, if we can't get it to you by next March, then we'll get it to you thereafter.
Gary Parrish
Yeah, yeah, because I would assume that has to. Like, if they didn't write that into the, into the documents, well, then you're just being silly. I mean, Jesus Lord, that would not have flown under previous NCAA rules. You couldn't just like, hey, come here, play for six months, then we'll give you $5 million and that's legal. That would not have worked. So I am just operating the same way college coaches seem to be operating, which is that we can offer whatever we want and who's going to stop us from giving it to you? That seems to be the way Louisville, Duke, North Carolina, everybody else is operating under the assumption that everything's going to be fine and nobody's going to tell us no. And as soon as they start telling, you know, they're just going to be lawsuits all over the place. You won't even be able to keep track. So I'm sure there's. I'm sure most smart staffs, all smart staffs have workarounds and creative ways to get these things done. Yeah, and they're, they're going to wait. They're not going to ask for permission. They'll ask for forgiveness, to borrow a cliche. But even then, before they ask for forgiveness, they'll probably sue you. So good luck. This is offer whatever you want. That seems to be what everybody's doing. I know that the settlement from last July suggested otherwise, but it's, it's just not happening. It is an open market, it appears. The other thing that I think does factor, if it's $8 million. To me, that's like a no brainer. That's like if my son.
Matt Norlander
Oh, no brainer.
Gary Parrish
Like if my son were Thomas Hou and he said, but dad, I really want to go to the NBA, I would say, like, we can do that in a year. But like, I am trying to tell you, this is clearly the thing you should do financially, but also this. Do you realize, like, first, there are two basketball leagues in the world that most Americans care about, that Americans care about. 2. It is the NBA and Division 1 men's basketball. That's it. All these other things can exist, but where we actually care, like, things that matter in this country. Basketball. It's the NBA and Division 1 men's basketball. Almost nobody is ever the best player on a team again once they get to the NBA. Kevin Durant is. LeBron James is. Luka Doncic can be. But outside of that, you're just a guy I. You should embrace. If the money makes sense, and it clearly does. This thing, why give up on this thing? You have a chance to be the star of a college basketball team in one of the two biggest basketball leagues in the world, or relevant basketball leagues in the world on a preseason number one team. And you'll never, you'll never be in this position again, barring a surprise, to be the best player on a team that can win something that matters to American basketball fans, you'll probably never be that again. So why give up on that? Particularly if you've got all the money, and I understand it, a different thing. It's like, hey, you know, my mom's got a mortgage we've, you know, grown up with not much. I got to get in the NBA and get this guaranteed money. Gotcha. Totally understand. Would never second guess anybody, but the particulars for, for prospects like this have changed dramatically. And now, like, it's not just that Braylon Mullins did this or Patrick Gongba did this or Thomas did this. Like, I genuinely mean anybody outside of the top 10 should probably be looking at this as an option. Doesn't mean you have to do it, but you need to seriously consider playing college basketball longer than you anticipated, because there's a decent chance, if you are a prospect like this, like you, you can make more money while eligible than you would sitting on a bench in the NBA. This is just, this is, this is a new path. And it's, it's, it's good for the players and it's, it's good for the sport.
Matt Norlander
Last thing, because we got plenty to get to here and we're up against a little bit of a time limit today. I first saw Thomas Hauk in Chicago in the summer of 2022. That was the off season where golden got the job and then we just flew on the private plane, you know X amount of places in in three days or whatever. Here's what I wrote back then. I said Florida's here primarily for one player. This was an Under Armour event. By the way, Thomas Hauck, a six nine 205 power wing is the Gators only high school commitment. He's ranked number 41 by 247 sports in the class of 23 Hauk Place for we are one a team out of greater Philadelphia. Within five minutes he makes a couple of big time plays. The joy and relief in Golden's face is obvious. It's only the third time he's seen how play in person. He looks like a top 100. A top 100 caliber player. Certainly four star material. Some current player rankings don't reflect that, but they will soon. 2 years ago how can I write pronounced Hawk. So I guess that wasn't exactly he projected as a Patriot League level recruit then developed into a CAA SoCon level guy before A10 schools came calling. Which is where former coach, the former assistant coach for Florida Hovdy enters into the picture who recruited Hauk elsewhere as recently four months back when Hovdy was an assistant at Richmond in the A10 and then Kevin Hovey would go on to join Florida staff. It's just these recruiting stories and how they start versus how they end up as wild and this is a player who didn't transfer. Think about that. Florida is going to have one of the three or four highest paid players in the history of college basketball this upcoming season and he started his journey essentially by being recruited to play for Richmond in the A10 and in part only landed up at Florida 1. He was good enough to go there obviously, but Kevin Hovdy made the move from Richmond to Todd golden staff and look how his life has changed as a result. Really really cool stuff. How because I said in the last spot I just love watching him play college basketball. Thrilled he's coming back and we do have a case here now where I'm always willing to hear counter arguments and I think there will be good counter arguments for two or three other teams for preseason number one. But it seems inevitable that the Gators are going to be the overwhelming pick to be the number one team heading into next season.
Gary Parrish
I mean the one thing that I think could make it in question. I mean there's multiple things that could put it in question, but like if a Dai Mara and Mora as Johnson both come back to school, I mean then you could, you could make a case for Michigan. But right now I'm with you. I think it should be Florida and everybody who ranks basketball teams in the off season that I've seen update so far seems to have Florida at number one right now. It appears to be a consensus but long way to go before we get to November, but let's move on. We're gonna talk through latest transfer portal developments next, including John Blackwell from Wisconsin to Duke. First though, let's get a word from our partners.

As men get older, staying lean, maintaining muscle that can become more difficult even with a consistent workout routine, something you do weekly. That's because the body naturally starts to change. Testosterone levels can decline as soon as your early 30s and that can lead to increased fat storage and reduced muscle mass. It's not just about lifestyle either. This hormonal shift can make it easier to gain weight, especially around the midsection, and harder to lose it over time. That cycle can continue or worsen if not addressed. Mars Men is a natural supplement designed to support healthy testosterone levels, helping the body function more efficiently when it comes to fat burning, muscle building, overall performance, and includes natural ingredients without without synthetic hormones or harsh stimulants. Marvel Television's Wonder man an eight episode series now streaming on Disney. A superhero remake. Not exactly what we'd expect from an Oscar winning director. Action Simon Williams audition for Wanda May.
Matt Norlander
I'm gonna need you to sign this.
Gary Parrish
Assuming you don't have superpowers.
Matt Norlander
Powers.
Gary Parrish
I never work again. If anyone found out Monolips are sealed. Marvel Television's Wonder man all eight episodes now streaming only on Disney plus. Right. Norlander. The transfer portal closed at midnight. If you're not in it by now, you're not in it, you're out. Also out, John Blackwell. He entered as a badger. He exited as a Blue Devil. Norlander, how big of a get is John Blackwell for John Shire?
Matt Norlander
That's, that's a good get. I mean they had been on him for a while. I know that recruitment had taken a little bit of a scenic route, but I'm not surprised by the commitment. I was, I was expecting that to be the case and indeed it was. He'll start at the two for Duke. To me it probably boosts Duke. Duke's case. Preseason top five level team. You've got Gungba back which is big expected but still big for sure. So Gangba, they've got the Belmont transfer who's coming in and playing the four. Sharnowski, you've got Blackwell to start at the two, Foster to start at the one, Sar to start at the three. Kind of makes me Kane Boozer still going to come off the bench. How they're going to work that I don't know but you got Darren Rippy coming in, Cameron Williams coming in, Bryson Howard coming in. So they've got, they've, they've done a good job in in. There's some good retention. You'll notice when you take A look at GP's preseason off season, top 25 and 1. You'll notice a lot of those teams that are populating his top three, top five, top ten. The retention piece has been huge.
Gary Parrish
Yes.
Matt Norlander
And I think, I think that goes hand in hand and honestly stands to a lot of reason why that should be the case. There will be teams outside of the top 10. It is a lock. It is a guarantee. There will be teams in the teens, 20s, maybe even unranked that will push into that top 10 conversation by the time we get into the thick of next season. But, but heading in we have seen for all the talk of all the transfers and we got more to run down on this show. There's been a lot of programs, a lot of coaches that have been able to retain a lot of pieces and that's led to some really positive momentum going into next season. Blackwell at times you watch Wisconsin play. I love Nick Boyd. I thought Nick Boyd was the most important police for Wisconsin last season. Sometimes it was Nolan Winter who they were able to retain critically up there in Madison. They needed to keep him around and they did. But Blackwell, who started his career there, played three seasons there. He had some moments and some games where he just absolutely popped. I'm interested to see if he can level up again. Gp, is he going to be largely the same player next season? All I know is I very much enjoyed watching him play and intrigued to see how he gels with the rest of that roster. Quite clearly it's a very good get. He is almost universally considered to be one of the five to ten best portal players in this year cycle.
Gary Parrish
Yeah, I mean John Shire is going to have a lot of options in terms of as you talk through the possible starting lineup, you can, you can they, you can play around with that a lot of different ways, but Blackwell is going to be in it. 6, 4 guard 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 39 from 3 on 7.3 attempts per game. Obviously that's solid and you know, he'll have your five star, you know, top 20 type prospects coming off of his bench. They're going to be good again. Like I've got Duke up to number three in the top 25 and one when it updates with version 10 later on today.
Matt Norlander
1.
Gary Parrish
Miss.
Matt Norlander
1.
Gary Parrish
Florida 2. Michigan 3. Duke with the addition to Blackwell it's a big get and like the other side of it, this isn't lost on me as I'm sitting here saying I love all this money, doing all this stuff. Like if you're Wisconsin, you just lost a guy who's been a part of your program for, you know, a significant amount of time. Done good stuff there and in a different era of the sport he'd be coming back for a last year with and you know, and it's just Duke decided they wanted him and what are you going to do? Like it's a, it's a hard fight to win. So I understand there's always a, another side to the transfer portal stuff, but for Duke this is a good development and for Blackwell I'm assuming it's a, it's a good one and a lucrative one. Let's stay in the triangle. Take a look at North Carolina and added two transfer portal guards on Tuesday. Terrence Brown from Utah. Big score, bad team. Matt Abel from NC State. They had already added Neoclass Optilus from Virginia Tech. So UNC's roster is taking shape. I've got them now in the top 15 of the top 25 of one.
Matt Norlander
Top 15, you said?
Gary Parrish
Yep.
Matt Norlander
Okay. How about that? I just got, got a random, I got a random nugget on another addition here. I'm, I'm gonna send it out in a second. It's, it's, it's Wes Miller at Charlotte's. Getting the player here. Sorry, that just came in unexpectedly. Carolina. Speaking of West Miller, former Carolina player. UNC has done well for itself here between Terence Brown, good score, maybe some empty calories at Utah in terms of the stats, but a good ad. And then Matt Abel, who I think is underrated in this year's portal class, broadly speaking. And then Maxime Logie, the FAU transfer from France. You get all those pieces. They wait on Henry Vasar, who's going to go through the process. My expectation is that he will return and when that happens, I know your rankings reflect this GP that puts unc I think, I think it's probably fair. Like first year coach. We'll see how it goes. You're trying to best project on what the roster is, who they're bringing in. Yeah, I think overall I, I think that that gets it done. But it was, it was a busy, busy, busy. It's been a busy time here. 36 hours for Carolina since we last podcasted. So that's. And it's. Frankly, it's been busy around the triangle in general, but good gains there for Carolina to load up to add up. Not done yet. We'll see who else they bring in. Believe they may be looking at at least one international player, so we'll see if and when they can add said player in the coming weeks or months. But yeah, it's, it's good game so far for Mike Malone who's. And we'll get to this and I don't want to get ahead of ourselves, but him being the coach and now Billy Donovan's no longer coaching in the NBA. Just been a lot of just general attention and buzz around UNC over the past 24 hours because of the player ads and Donovan coming onto the market.
Gary Parrish
Okay, I do want to get to Billy Donovan. We'll do that before we get out of here. Also notable development since last time we talked at UConn with solo ball in it being announced he's going to have wrist surgery and miss the entire 2026, 27 season before returning for a final year with the Huskies in 2027, 28. But I want to stay in the transfer portal right now. There was a big late addition late Tuesday night. Tunde yes, the big scoring guard from Baylor who isn't to quote our buddy Sam Pacini. A first round lock but certainly had first round potential five star recruit. McDonald's All American all time leading scorer in California high school basketball history. This guy does have name recognition. He can obviously score. The shooting numbers aren't great, which I guess is among the reasons he's not a first round lock. But he's in the transfer portal and it closed at midnight. If you want to run us through it, where would he rank slot in your most impactful prospects sitting there available right now and then, I don't know, run us through a top five, top ten. If you're a Kentucky fan for, you know, instance and you're looking for how you're going to get this roster in a good place, who's out there still available?
Matt Norlander
Okay, as we read off the top 10, I will note the one name not here and annual reminder for everyone that's probably aware of this, the portal closed Last night at 11:50pm 59pm Eastern. There will be more players that matriculate through the system today, tomorrow, maybe as late as Friday, because all you have to do is quite literally communicate to someone in the athletic department I want to transfer and then they're obligated to eventually process your name in there. So as you watch this, if you're watching live, we appreciate everyone tuning in here on a Wednesday morning, or if you're getting to it Wednesday afternoon on the phone, or however you're listening, just be aware there's going to be a little bit of a trickle effect. We wait and see if there's any other big names. The one name that did not or has not gone into the portal that has been like widely rumored and speculated on is Christian Anderson, who I think ultimately is going to stay in the draft. But that whole situation was just bizarre in the with the idea of Texas Tech not being shy on money, Anderson would be a, you know, a featured player next season. Obviously J.T. toppin still hurt. That hasn't happened. So hopefully it doesn't happen for Grant McCaslin's sake and all that, but I think ultimately he's heading for the draft. But I know if you're really dialed into the portal and you're a sicko for this kind of stuff, I know there's been a a lot of wait and see on what's happening with Christian Anderson. He is not in there as of right now. We'll see if we can get to the next 48 hours with him not being in there. So that being said Yesifu a very talented player did not pop this year the way that some other one and done Baylor prospects had very recently I would put him third so uncommitted players in the portal as a 10:30am Eastern on Wednesday April 22nd I would rank them thusly. I'd say Milan Momchilovich is number one and I think the expat he's gonna go through the draft process feels 5050 ish but I would guess he comes back and you mentioned Kentucky. I don't know how deep Kentucky is or is not might not be at all. There had been some Florida chatter. I just don't see that now at all period with their roster. I guess never say never but I got to think Florida's got like 15 million already committed to its roster so I don't think so there but I think Monclovich will I think he'll find his way back to college where he lands. That's a big one. I think he's the best on uncommitted Mustafa Cham out of Cincinnati would be my number two and I mentioned that before I just sent that the tweet West Miller's it bringing aboard Keesh Keyshawn Tillery who played at Cincinnati last season. He was a top 60 recruit. He's not in my top 10 but I just happened to get this nugget in the middle of the pod. He's gonna go play for Miller at Charlotte so him and Jizzle James. So you essentially have what would have been a starting backord in the Big 12 next season going to play for Charlotte. That's actually a really good game for him. So I just figured I'd give you that nugget here in real time. GP if you're watching on YouTube Josh is already YouTube. He's built out the the which I appreciate. I would put so I put Chom out of Cincinnati number two. He's got some big boys on him. I don't know when he'll commit but but I know that there he's deep in some discussions right now. Yes Yesifu I put at three Juke Harris out of Wake Forest. I'd put at four. His recruitment has been all over the place I think. I think the people advising him want him to stay in the draft. That feels 5050 ish. There had been some Carolina stuff I think that might I think the ship might have sailed. There had been some Michigan. I wonder if the ship has sailed. There had Been some Tennessee stuff. I think the ship might have sailed there. So Juke Harris is a tough one to read at this point. Massamba Jop is another Biggie. He's him and Chom, as I look at this, are the only two Bigs left of note on the board there. I think St. John's might be trying to close the deal there with Jop. Alan Graves I have at six among available transfers. Some people were listing him as a top 10 transfer period. He's a solid player. I think it's the analytic stuff. I'm not getting that. I, I think he's going to test the draft process, but I have him. 6. Lawan Watts out of Texas Tech. 7. Paul McNeil out of NC State. I have is 8 and I guess the read there is that it's 5050 whether he stays at State or goes in the portal. From what I've been told, it was allegedly leaning toward him sticking around in Raleigh, but that is up in the air. I can't give you any more update than that, but I know State fans were hopeful and now it kind of feels like a coin flip. 9. I have Dre Gibbs Lawhorn out of UNLV who is a real Hooper, like a very good player and the kind of guy who I don't, I don't know where he's going. Wherever he lands. I gotta figure he is a very, a good added piece there. And then Dwayne Aristode out of Arizona, who by my read just didn't get quite as much burn or wasn't expecting as much burn as he was hoping at Arizona. Obviously there's a lot of competition there and so we wait and see, see where he lands next. Only other thing I'll toss for you gp and this is more for maybe next week or somewhere else. There's just a little, a little bit, a little bit of like, could Co A Pete maybe. Could he maybe stay maybe? I don't think he will.
Gary Parrish
He is like, that's the game.
Matt Norlander
If he actually came back, then maybe we have a conversation with Florida.
Gary Parrish
So I, as I say often, probably more often than I should, I'm not in the business of making decisions for other people. But he is the exact player I would be if I were in his circle. I'd be saying, are we sure we don't want to do another year college? I know you didn't plan on it, but like there's real money being made out there and like if I were Co A Pete Tundi, Estafu, Christian Andersen, any Of these players who could reasonably be picked in the first round, but also like could be, could be 18, could be 28, could be 34. I, what I would have done, I think what I would have advised is let's just keep every option open. So yeah, we're going to go through the draft process. We are also going to be in the transfer portal. It does not mean I'm not coming back to Arizona or Baylor or what or Texas Tech. It just means that I want to know what everybody got to. Got to say to me. I want to know every offer that could possibly be on the table and then make an educated decision. But with Co op the, the. The more and more like, like with Braylon Mullins, I think the more and more they started looking at it, it just made more sense to stay where they were for a lot of money. And Koepi can do whatever he wants, but if I were in his circle, I would be looking at doing another year of college basketball for all of the same reasons Thomas Hauck is doing it and Braylon Mullins. Yes, big time money, uncertain draft position. But also and I this should be noted like going 21st in this draft might make you 12th in the next draft. You know, just you'll be better positioned to be picked somewhere wherever next season after next season than you would in this next draft because of the, the caliber of talent at the top. So there's a lot of reasons to really look at this. Braylon Mullins did and decided to stay. Thomas Hauck did and decided to stay. And if I were Co A Pete I would, I would at least be seriously considering following that path.
Matt Norlander
Yeah, I'm not. I don't want to overstate this. I only bring. There are two players I mentioned in the previous pod, Hauk and Amen at Tennessee, who I think will stay. But the two, the two players who haven't like full on decided for sure that just that get asked about like there's just a little seeds of doubt are Pete, who I think will stay in the draft and Amen, who I think will stay. Both of those players would need in my opinion how could level financial offers to stay. But Dan would have been incredible if they wound up. If they wound up doing it. So, so we wait and see. I just, I quickly invoke that because there's just a little bit of that going around. Like are we sure? Are we sure? Sure. Whereas everyone else that you would see projected in that top 15 at this point is obviously, is obviously gone. The only other thing that we haven't touched on since we last pod. Other than we'll get to Donovan. Just a second. We did the pot on Monday. I had, I honestly had no idea that this was the case. We, we do the pod, we talk about Braylon Mullins, we talk about Yukon. Solo ball is going to miss next season. So the wrist injury is so severe or, or whatever plan they're going to have in place GP that UConn does not have its starting 2 guard anymore for next season. Solo ball will either will undergo or has undergone. I'm not clear if he's actually gone under the knife yet or not. And you're, you're talking to, you're talking to a guy who has actually had a wrist injury here. So I can speak from.
Gary Parrish
Hey, you're talking to a guy who's had a wrist injury.
Matt Norlander
But did you, did you get yours playing, playing hoop like I did?
Gary Parrish
No, mine was a bicycle accident.
Matt Norlander
Yeah, exactly. Now I, I, I busted this bad boy circa 2002 in a pickup game and it didn't take me a year and a half to recover. But, but I got, I got the screw in there. Still got the scar to show for it. Remember it well. Woke up surgery. It was the day that Creighton won at the buzzer in the tournament. I think I've mentioned this on the show before. We can stick the solo ball, but now that I'm going down a memory lane here. Creighton beat none other than Florida at the buzzer. 8382 in the tournament in overtime. Can you remember the name of the player that hit the shot for Crate? You probably got no chance, right?
Gary Parrish
No chance.
Matt Norlander
You better hope it was Terrell Taylor. Hold on, I want to say it was. Hold on, I want to say that was Terrell Taylor that did that. Yes, it was Terrell Taylor.
Gary Parrish
Anyway, that's having yourself to look smart.
Matt Norlander
Why not? The day he hit that shot was the day I had wrist surgery. So.
Gary Parrish
Okay, yeah, mine was more, mine was more 1989ish.
Matt Norlander
Oh yeah, no, I quite literally scheduled my surgery for like 6:30 in the morning so that I would wake up from anesthesia to be able to watch the ncibly tournament.
Gary Parrish
Oh, I didn't schedule my surgery. I had a bicycle accident. We went straight to the emergency room. True story. Mom and dad in the waiting room. They put me under anesthesia to reset my arm and I woke up in the middle of it.
Matt Norlander
Yeah, that's, I think you said that on the show before they could hear
Gary Parrish
me screaming from the back I mean, a nightmare. Even as I'm thinking about it, just, like, my wrist starts hurting right now. I can feel it. Anyway, Solo Ball. So I update the top 25 and 1 on Monday, I guess, every day. Every day. But I did it on Monday. And you wait for. You know, the way that works is you rank. You rank a bunch of teams, you write a new lead, you update the comments, then you send it to Marcus, and then he publishes it. Then you tweet it, and then you just wait to be called stupid by every fan base in America. That's the way. That's the way. That's my job. That's my life. That's my job. And so I tweeted, oh, and what's your next one?
Matt Norlander
I'm gonna get in on the fun. I'm doing it today.
Gary Parrish
It'll be later today, right? Just jump in there, ask me.
Matt Norlander
I'm getting in the fun. I'm throwing. I'm hopping in the. Hopping in the hopper.
Gary Parrish
Make sure to ask me where Missouri is. All right. Also, also ask me why I hate Missouri. I decided to hate Missouri, apparently. So you wait for people to call you an idiot, and that train's never late. And so I tweeted the other day, and within minutes, it felt like somebody's like, so, is this with or without Solo Ball? And I'm like, what is this idiot talking about? Is this with or without Solo Paul?
Matt Norlander
I mean, I just wrote it.
Gary Parrish
It's in there. All you got to do is read. I wrote, and then I was like, hold up. Did something happen to Solo Ball?
Matt Norlander
Yeah. How'd that go for you?
Gary Parrish
Yeah. No, I didn't say. I want to be clear. I didn't reply to the guy. I didn't do anything. This is all internal. I was just like, these. What do you mean? Just read. Just click on the thing and read. It says solo ball right there. And it turns out, nope. Solo Ball has had to be removed from UConn's roster. That was updated yesterday. You had.
Matt Norlander
You did bump them down, didn't you?
Gary Parrish
Yeah. UConn down to number five. Not that far. I mean, you still look at it, and it's. I mean, they're still going to be good. The top five of the top 25 and one, when it updates today will be number one, Florida. Number two, Michigan. Number three, Duke. Number two, number four, Illinois. Number five, Yukon. But I had.
Matt Norlander
I'm still going to call you stupid and ask where Missouri is, but it makes sense.
Gary Parrish
Missouri is just outside of the top 25.
Matt Norlander
You know, what's going to be fun actually is I'm, I'm going to, so this is going to be only for like listeners of the show that are going to, I'm going to go pretty hard at you in the paint. Like, I'm, I'm going to come after you for this. It's going to be totally tongue in cheek, but it's going to read straight. And people that have not listened to this show aren't going to have any idea what's going on.
Gary Parrish
This sounds like a good way to get blocked. The last thing I want to do is arc you with you or anybody else on social media on a Wednesday afternoon in April. All right?
Matt Norlander
I, I, oh, buddy. So, all right, I won't go, I won't go too hard on the pain on you, but like, I need, I need to get involved just once. It's like I had no idea. Missouri fans, although I'm big on Bryson Tiller, like, I think Bryson Tiller is going to turn into like a top 10 productive transfer next season. So I understand where they may be coming.
Gary Parrish
It's just one of those things where there is a cut off and it's, the cutoff is 20. Like, it's a 26. Right. And it, fans tend to think if you don't have them in the top 26, you must have them 58. You must be just totally like they're right below the cut line. There's, there's a team that's just right there. But the replies, never. Nobody ever asked, hey, gp is Missouri like right there? I would just ignore that. Like I ignore the other stuff. But if I were to answer it, I'd say, yes, they're right there. They're right there in the 30 range. But if you don't have them in the 26, oh, you're gonna get caught. A lot of names every day. That's the way I live my, that's the way I live my life. All right, so UConn down to number five and they'll still be a national championship contender. And I guess it's good to know you will have a super experienced.
Matt Norlander
Yeah.
Gary Parrish
Off guard sitting there waiting for you. Well rested and rehabbed for the 20, 27, 28 season. Let's take a break, get one more word from our partners. Then we'll close on Billy Donovan resigning as head coach of the Chicago Bulls. Oh, I bet that makes a bunch of hot seat coaches a little nervous. We'll get into it next.

Edu Sci. Billy Donovan no longer an active NBA coach. Done. After six years with the Bulls, his decision is the way it's being framed. And now obviously he's got options. If he wants to be an NBA coach again, most people think that he can. If he wants to return to college basketball, a lot of people think he'll have the pick of jobs after next season. And as you noted in a column@cbssports.com a job that he was attached to multiple times, really lots of times throughout his career. There's a chance it could open next March. If, if not sooner. Leave it to Kentucky fans. It might open this afternoon.
Matt Norlander
But you think Kentucky fans haven't already gone there? Oh, my God.
Gary Parrish
I was assuming, like, how about this? If you were Kentucky and you could do it today, would you.
Matt Norlander
Oh my God.
Gary Parrish
That's an honest question. If it's Kentucky and you could do it today,
Matt Norlander
what do you say?
Gary Parrish
I'd say, I. What do you say if Billy Donovan's agent called you and said, hey, he'll do this. Like, and I know Billy's agent. I don't think it's complicated. I, I don't even think it's real. All right? But if you asked me thought experiment,
Matt Norlander
I thought experimentally, Donovan, in a week from now, or you try year three with Pope.
Gary Parrish
I. Okay, here's the Kentucky fan. I'm about to answer your question. All right? It feels dirty because, like, this is a man's life. This is his career. It's, it's his kids home, the job's not open. But it's a college basketball podcast and it's a thought experiment. And so here's my answer to your question. If I at Kentucky could hire Billy Donovan this afternoon, yes, I would do it. I think, I think, I think clearly that would be the. There's a decent chance based on how the first two years are gone and what the roster looks like right now, that year three is not going to be good enough to get a year four. So you'd be trying to do this thing next year anyway. Yes. Totally unrealistic. Don't turn this, don't anybody turn this
Matt Norlander
into, oh, I'm gonna, we're gonna expand it beyond Kentucky real quick. I just get this. Like, this is the. Would you rather NFL quarterback game like Josh Allen or whatever? Right. So let's just run it down. I'm going to run down the top 15 schools that finish at Ken Palm. Okay. Michigan. Would you rather have Messy May or Billy Donovan?
Gary Parrish
This is crazy. I would, I would stay where I'm at, given what just happened. I would stay right where.
Matt Norlander
I'm asking. Arizona. Tommy Lloyd or Billy Donovan?
Gary Parrish
I stay right where I'm at.
Matt Norlander
Duke, John Shire or Billy Donovan.
Gary Parrish
I don't. I leave well enough alone at most these places.
Matt Norlander
Houston. Kelvin Sampson or Billy Donovan.
Gary Parrish
Well, now you're talking about having an age thing, right?
Matt Norlander
Sure. I was like Calvin Sampson. I don't.
Gary Parrish
I am not moving Kelvin Sampson out of Houston. I played no role in that.
Matt Norlander
Illinois. Brad Underwood or Billy Donovan.
Gary Parrish
I think I just keep it where it's at, man.
Matt Norlander
I would think it's a Florida. Todd Goldener. Florida. Todd Goldener. Can we. Could we actually picture Billy Donovan coaching at Florida?
Gary Parrish
Oh, yeah. Donovan coaching on Billy Donovan court as Todd golden takes over the Golden State Warriors.
Matt Norlander
I don't think that's like, Ty Golden's not going anywhere right now.
Gary Parrish
Maybe in a year, you know, that's
Matt Norlander
out there as one more year.
Gary Parrish
And that's being reported by reputable NBA people.
Matt Norlander
Yeah. That's not. Todd Golden's not going to the worst. Like, why he has a team that can win the national title.
Gary Parrish
Like, I, I, I.
Matt Norlander
That's not gonna happen.
Gary Parrish
I agree with you. But it is out there. Yeah.
Matt Norlander
Yeah. I just don't think that's. I don't think I, I don't think you. I. How about this? I don't think you go through all the trouble and everything that's involved with bringing back Thomas Hauck and everything that he cost and then say, see ya.
Gary Parrish
I think, I think that's right.
Matt Norlander
I'm not done. Iowa State.
Gary Parrish
TJ Altoberger with any program that has been awesome and is still like, yeah, I just stay where I'm at. I don't leave well enough alone. I'm keeping tj.
Matt Norlander
Okay. Purdue. Painter.
Gary Parrish
Come on. I'm not messing with that.
Matt Norlander
Running down the top 15.
Gary Parrish
Okay. I'm not messing with that.
Matt Norlander
Yukon. Hurley. We're not messing with that. Yeah. Michigan State. Tom Izzo.
Gary Parrish
I'm not messing with that.
Matt Norlander
Vanderbilt. Mark Byington.
Gary Parrish
You know what? I don't think I'm messing with that.
Matt Norlander
Wow. I don't think I am either. By the way, Alabama NATO, you're not messing with that. St. John's Rick Patino.
Gary Parrish
Well, Billy can't get a job. It turns out. It turns out Billy Donovan ain't as hot as we.
Matt Norlander
He's not.
Gary Parrish
I'm not gonna see Rick Barnes. That's one where I, I, it's just an age thing that it would only be because of age. But I, if I'm going to say leave well enough alone, let's leave well enough alone. It's going fine.
Matt Norlander
And then 15 was Gonzaga and Mark few.
Gary Parrish
Not messing with that.
Matt Norlander
I'm messing with that. So you'd have to get down to trivia time. Where did Kentucky finish a Kenpum?
Gary Parrish
I don't know. Not good. Not, not good enough for their fans. Not as bad as you think.
Matt Norlander
Give me a number.
Gary Parrish
37.
Matt Norlander
37.
Gary Parrish
I don't know.
Matt Norlander
29.
Gary Parrish
Okay.
Matt Norlander
That's the weird, that's the wild thing about Pope.
Gary Parrish
Yeah.
Matt Norlander
He's made the tournament in back to back years, in year one, year two
Gary Parrish
and games of both.
Matt Norlander
Three seed that made the sweet sixteen was a seven seed that just won a tournament game. But it's Kentucky and I'm, I'm drafting this next comment. We can talk Donovan, get the hell out of here. Off of previous conversations that I've had with Pope. Like, he is not scared and does not run from everything that comes with this job. He knows the deal. He knows how much criticism he'll get. He knows how much heat comes with it. If we got him on the show right now and his heart of hearts, he would know that it's not looking good for him at the moment with where the roster is. He might have more confidence in his roster than the outside world does looking in. But he's not ignorant to all this stuff. And I do remember when he got the job, him essentially making comment to me like, if they even fire me tomorrow before I've coached a game, I got to say, I was the Kentucky coach and that's the most amazing thing that's ever happened to me kind of deal. So he knows the score, he knows the deal. We'll see what happens there. But bringing back to the Donovan conversation, here's where we stand. Real chance he could get another NBA job in this cycle. Like it's be determined how many jobs will open. There's been, you know, talk associated with will Orlando open now as we speak right Now, Orlando's up 100, 100 on the Pistons. We'll see if they can actually. If they won that series, that would change the calculus. There But I don't know. The question is, will he chase and be chased equally in this cycle over the next one to five weeks to be a head coach again immediately? He does want to coach again. He will coach again. The question is what level will it happen at. He has not been in college for more than a decade. The landscape of college basketball, it's quite different now from what it was when he left. In some ways you can make the argument that the way things are now are actually would make it easier on the job for, for Billy than the the circumstances and tenor under which he left and opted to chase, you know, coaching the Thunder after pumpking the Magic more than a decade ago. We'll see if he does not coach in this cycle and winds up taking a year off. What that will do is induce a perma state of curiosity and speculation because of Kentucky first and foremost, because I think he's turned down Kentucky. He's turned him down at least twice. I think he's turned down Kentucky three times before. So Kentucky's one. Hello, Bill Self at Kansas. Is this going to be his last season? He very publicly went through a deliberation process that lasted for about a week and a half before saying, no, I'm going to come back. But now we have entered the stage with Bill Self, where is going to be a year by year thing. So Kentucky, Kansas. Do we allow for the possibility that golden has another really good run at Florida? Of course we do. And with that, could we see a situation where he might have an opportunity a year from now if Billy's just sitting there? Well, what better spot to return to than the place that literally has your name emblazoned on the court there. So those are the three most obvious ones. And then I even got teed up on HQ about it yesterday. Just the general idea of like, well, what if we got a year out from now when Rick Patino decided not to coach or Tom Izzo decided not to coach? I actually don't think that will happen. I think we will be talking one year from now, April 22, 2027, and Patino and Izzo will still be coaching heading into that next season at those respective schools. But if Billy Donovan does not take an NBA job over the next few weeks, then his looming candidacy will be something that hovers over the entire sport all of next season, unless he publicly comes out and says, I will not be returning to college basketball. And I do not expect him to make that kind of statement. So we wait and see. No one has a bigger ripple effect on the carousel at both levels than Mr. Donovan, who is 60 years old
Gary Parrish
and like there aren't really rules anymore in college basketball anyway. At least none that any are following. But if you have an idea that you're getting back into college basketball, being an unemployed former NBA coach with like, you haven't ties that, I mean you can get a lot of work done if you know you're taking a job next March, like if you remember like there was John Calipari in the NBA, like at dejuan Wagner's high school games, like he was already working. I'm coming back to college. I'm, I'm going to be ready when I take a job. I'm going to have a roster, at least the idea of a roster in play you can get a lot of work legwork done. So if you don't see Billy take a job, I wouldn't be surprised if you see Billy start popping around a grassroots stuff this summer. Like, you know, you can start to get some work done on your next job. Even if you're not quite sure what your next job is going to be. As long as you know it's probably going to be in college, you can get a lot of work done like starting, starting the summer. So as always, we'll see. But I wouldn't be surprised if he takes a year off and then is everybody's desired candidate roughly, you know, a little less than a year from now
Matt Norlander
him and we can wrap your gp. But him doing this now, by the way, like I'm not, I'm not surprised that he stepped away and he did like they wanted to keep him. They changed over the entire front office structure and got rid of everyone, you know, two weeks ago and he decides to step away anyway. But the timelines just like if it doesn't go well at Carolina next season and Billy wound up not coaching the Bulls anyway, there's just a lot of, there's just a lot of collateral that just stands to come about in college basketball depending on how things go. So I'm fascinated by all of it. We wait and see on if he does chase, if he takes an NBA job within a month from now, then we're done and we move on and here we are. But if he doesn't, oh boy, then that is just going to be something out there on a week by week, by week basis.

Eye On College Basketball Podcast — April 22, 2026 Episode: CHOMP CHOMP 🐊🐊 bringing back Thomas Haugh, vault to 1️⃣ Big adds for Duke, UNC; big loss for UConn; top 10 uncommitted portal guys; Billy Donovan is a free agent
Gary Parrish and Matt Norlander dive into a pivotal moment in the college basketball offseason: the return of Florida star Thomas Haugh for his senior season (vaulting the Gators to preseason #1), major transfer portal headlines with big wins for Duke and UNC, a tough blow for UConn, and a rundown of the top uncommitted portal prospects. They close by examining the broad implications of Billy Donovan leaving the NBA and what his next move could mean for the coaching carousel.
Main Focus:
How the return of high-level players—especially Thomas Haugh to Florida, and notable moves in the transfer portal—are shaping the landscape for the 2026-27 college basketball season. NIL money and transfer freedom have made college a competitive destination, while coaching musical chairs could shake things up even further.
[02:00–12:30]
Thomas Haugh decides to return to Florida instead of entering the NBA Draft, despite being projected as a late lottery-to-mid first round pick.
"Thomas Hou has announced that he will return to Florida for his senior season despite being projected as a possible lottery pick in the 2026 NBA Draft. As always, money got it done. The numbers are reportedly big. There are no rules in college basketball."
— Gary Parrish (02:58)
Discussion about how rare it is for near-lottery picks to return to school, comparing Haugh to Miles Bridges, Marcus Smart, and others.
"I think his best case scenario was like 12 and his absolute floor was 20 ... We have a true rare instance ... someone who was reasonably considered to be a lottery pick, opting to return back to college basketball. I think Bridges did this at Michigan State ... McDermott at Creighton ... Marcus Smart at Oklahoma State."
— Matt Norlander (03:34)
The impact of NIL, with Haugh reportedly earning more than he'd get from an NBA rookie deal:
"He's in line to make around what he'd earn in his first two NBA seasons combined if he'd been drafted in the top 20 ... That would have been 3.88 million in year one, 4.1 million in year two ... I would be downright shocked ... if Thomas Haugh is coming back for anything less than $8 million."
— Matt Norlander quoting reporting and adding: "Florida's going to have the highest paid player in all of college basketball." (08:12–09:54)
What this means for Florida:
[21:37–25:30]
John Blackwell transfers from Wisconsin to Duke, plugs in at the shooting guard.
"Blackwell is going to be in it ... 19.1 points, 5.1 rebounds, 39 from 3 on 7.3 attempts. Obviously that's solid...I've got Duke up to number three in the top 25 and one."
— Gary Parrish (24:20)
Discussing the importance of retention as the new currency of offseason building.
"You'll notice ... a lot of those teams that are populating [the] top three, top five, top ten ... the retention piece has been huge."
— Matt Norlander (23:08)
[25:30–27:40]
UNC adds Terrence Brown (Utah), Matt Abel (NC State), and Maxime Logie (FAU/France); waiting on Henry Vasar.
"UNC has done well for itself ... They wait on Henry Vasar, who's going through the process. My expectation is that he will return ... that's good gains so far for Mike Malone [UNC coach]."
— Matt Norlander (26:06)
Norlander hints at possible further roster tweaks, maybe an international addition.
[27:55; 39:11–43:14]
UConn loses star guard Solo Ball for the year due to wrist surgery.
"So the wrist injury is so severe ... UConn does not have its starting 2 guard anymore for next season. ... Solo Ball has had to be removed from UConn's roster ... UConn down to number five. Not that far. I mean, they're still going to be good."
— Gary Parrish (39:11–41:15)
[28:00–36:31]
Portal closed at midnight, but a trickle of new names may still emerge.
Norlander’s top 10 remaining uncommitted players (as of that morning):
"If you're Co A Pete, Tunde Yesifu, Christian Andersen ... who could reasonably be picked in the first round, but also ... could be 18, could be 28, could be 34... I would have advised, let's just keep every option open ... I want to know every offer that could possibly be on the table then make an educated decision."
— Gary Parrish (34:24)
Many of these players are testing the NBA Draft waters; the decision process is more complex than ever.
[44:01–54:52]
Billy Donovan resigns as Bulls coach, immediately becoming the hottest free agent in college/NBA coaching.
Speculation rises about Kentucky, Kansas, and his old home Florida, should jobs open in 2027.
"If I at Kentucky could hire Billy Donovan this afternoon, yes, I would do it. ... there's a decent chance, based on how the first two years are gone and what the roster looks like ... that year three is not going to be good enough to get a year four. So you'd be trying to do this thing next year anyway."
— Gary Parrish (45:14)
Comical hypothetical sweep of "top 15 jobs"—most are well-occupied, showing how rare major moves are, but Kentucky is seen as most plausible for Donovan.
Norlander emphasizes Donovan’s “perma-candidacy” status:
"If Billy Donovan does not take an NBA job over the next few weeks, then his looming candidacy will be something that hovers over the entire sport all of next season..."
— Matt Norlander (51:44)
If Donovan takes a year off, expect him to surface at grassroots events, quietly working for a return in 2027.
On the NIL Landscape:
"...it is an open market, it appears. ... the particulars for, for prospects like this have changed dramatically. And now, like, it's not just that Braylon Mullins did this or Patrick Gongba did this or Thomas did this. Like, I genuinely mean anybody outside of the top 10 should probably be looking at this as an option."
— Gary Parrish (13:58)
On College Basketball’s Star Power Coming Back:
"This is great for the sport. Great for Florida. Sure. Rough for the SEC, I guess, but great for the sport. The Gators should be considered right now the favorite to win the 2027 NCAA tournament."
— Gary Parrish (07:29)
On changing fortunes:
"Florida is going to have one of the three or four highest paid players in the history of college basketball this upcoming season and he started his journey essentially by being recruited to play for Richmond..."
— Matt Norlander (16:21)
Portal Reality Check:
“The retention piece has been huge ... for all the talk of all the transfers ... there’s been a lot of programs, a lot of coaches that have been able to retain a lot of pieces and that’s led to some really positive momentum…”
— Matt Norlander (23:08)
