A few months after Margaret Brennan took over as moderator, Face the Nation was given a makeover that brought it more in line with the look and feel of other CBS News programs. The theme was recorded a month before its debut in the studios of Made Music Studio in New York. Each section of an orchestra recorded their parts before it was all mixed together under the guidance of Joel Beckerman and Mickey Alexander. After John Dickerson took over for Bob Schieffer, the Face the Nation-theme was given a slight refresh. Dickerson’s tenure would only last two and a half years because he was promoted to co-anchor of CBS This Morning after Charlie Rose was fired for sexual harassment. This is a fuller, more orchestral arrangement of the previous theme. When this theme was used, Face the Nation expanded to an hour. It was the last of the Sunday shows to do so. There is still a clear break between the first half hour and the second, to accommodate local stations that do not air the back end. This theme was used until the retirement of longtime moderator Bob Schieffer. Peter Fish – Face the Nation theme https://www.networknewsmusic.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/cbsftn09.mp3
Bob Schieffer was in the middle of his 24 year stint as moderator of Face the Nation when this theme was in use. This theme made its debut in September of 2002 and lasted until May 2009. Face the Nation is one of the longest running programs on television. At thirty minutes in length until 2012, it was the shortest of the Sunday morning public affairs programs. In its long history, legends such as Howard K. Smith and Bob Schieffer moderated the program. This theme is composed by Chuck Loeb for Score Productions and lasted until 2002.
